5-0 out of 5 stars Set up is a breeze
I love this video player. It is compact, easy to set up and just the right size. I'm embarrassed to say it, but it's a wonderful babysitter for the car.

1-0 out of 5 stars worthless piece of junk!
I wanted this tv so bad because of it's convenience and style that I purchased it and returned it 3 times to get a working one. Every one of them stopped functioning correctly after 8-10 days. The picture went fuzzy and only the sound could be heard. I went and upgraded to the same tv but the eddie bauer edition found at target for 50$ more and have had it over three months now with no problems. Don't waste your money on this worthless piece of junk!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes traveling with four kids a breeze
Bought mine almost 10 months ago and it's still working great. We are VERY VERY hard on things, and thus far it is holding up well. It's easy to use, and easy to take in and out of the car to use indoors and/or transfer to another vehicle.
The two headphone jacks are a great feature -- I got a couple of splitters and all four kids can use headphones at once, and I can listen to the radio instead of Scooby for the 100th time. Only down side is that the kids in the back of the van have trouble seeing -- I'm thinking about getting the extra screen to go in the back so I don't have to hear them argue about who sat in the back last time. Has been a good, sturdy product for us, and well worth the money.

1-0 out of 5 stars Ours was unreliable
The second day we had this, a quarter of the screen went black. We returned it. If you do buy one of these, get the extended warranty because the unit only comes with a 90 day warranty. It's a shame it didn't work well because the design is very convenient.

4-0 out of 5 stars Must have for those with little children
This has been a lifesaver for me on long car trips and short ones. It is very compact compared to the others. I also tried the RCA one but it does not fit between the front seats like this one. That one sits in the middle of the back seat. Does not work if you have a van. I highly recommend this product. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good product for the price.
This is my third JVC S-VHS VCR. Along with the other two it`s used everyday to record shows for weekend viewing. Using the S-VHS ET mode with Maxell HI-FI tapes, the picture and sound are excellent, even with repeated over recordings on the same tape. The only thing keeping me from giving it five stars is the lack of a panel display counter(as on previous models), and it`s HORRIBLE time keeping capabilities (time needs adjusting every month).

1-0 out of 5 stars VCR Died after 4 months - used twice
If you do buy this (or any JVC), make sure you use it a lot in the first month, so it'll still be under warranty if it dies. After that, maybe you'll be fine. Also, and this is probably true of all JVC VCR's, I found it very difficult to use, and I'm very gadget literate.

Funny thing is, I bought this just to transfer approx 10 tapes onto DVD (feeding VCR output into computer), and then probably wouldn't need it anymore. I used it twice, and then couldn't even get the VCR to turn on. Unfortunately, this was after 3 months of business travel, so warranty expired - out of luck. When I called JVC, they said I could take it to a service center for an hourly labor - yeah right!

I noticed the fuse inside was blown, but every time I replaced it, it would just blow again. I never liked JVC for other devices, but thought they might make good VCR's. Now I will never buy anything from them period.

4-0 out of 5 stars Digital Quality in analog
I read a lot of bad reviews on s-vhs machines. I think people who buy these (& return them) miss the point. If you're gonna use 6 for 10 dollar tapes, or worn, well used tapes over & over again on the slowest speed, don't buy a super-vhs machine, use a 200-250 line resolution cheap VCR. If you want DVD quality, over 400 lines resolution video, use good tapes, & the high speed. With a good tape, the slow speed looks better than ordinary vhs though. The machines will also record & play ordinary vhs in the best quality available.

Also, if you have a cheap, or small TV you won't notice much difference... buy a cheap VCR. If you have a high quality TV or widescreen (me-2 Wegas & a DLP projector) These machines are the most economical way to record DVD quality programming. Beware you get what you pay for, the cheapest s-vhs machines will not be as good as a more expensive one. If you got a Wega, something like it or widescreen, invest a little more on the VCR & tapes.

I find there is 1 fundimental flaw with all s-vhs machines though. They seem to need a "breaking in" period where they won't record a nice pic in the EP speed in s-vhs. You have to use the machine in SP or ordinary VHS when using EP until the heads wear a little. The pic is better after after the heads wear down a little in EP s-vhs.

As an electronics sevice tech, & a videophile, I'll never go back to ordinary VHS.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK quality at a good price.
I purchased 2 of these units after having excellent service with former JVC VCR`s. The picture and sound quality is excellent using the ET-SVHS mode with standard tapes. With the [low] price though, many features are missing. In order to view the counter you must use the on screen display, there is no counter incorporated into the clock. The counter will also not operate if you have the superimpose feature turned off,a very annoying feature that floods the screen with all kinds of info. VCR+ is also missing on this unit, and if you turn off the unit after programming,it won`t record if you forget to press the timer button(expected on a VCR from 1985,not 2002). For people who tape many TV shows to watch at a later date,I`d suggest spending the extra [money]for the HRS390 model, which has retained the clock display counter, and VCR+. If you only watch movies on an irregular basis, then this model will suit you fine. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A definite buy!
I do have to admit that being a smart shopper I was hesitant to shell out so much money for "just a cable". But upon the advise of a coworker who said "now that you have a big screen TV you HAVE TO GET A COMPONENT VIDEO CABLE". And right he was. I definitely notice a difference in picture color (not necessiarly in quality but the colors are cleaner and more true to life) when playing DVD movies. I would definitely advise investing in a good cable!

5-0 out of 5 stars top of the line product
It may sound somewhat surprising, at first glance, that a short piece of cable between your TV and DVD player can make a noticeable difference in the picture quality, but once you compare a cheap cable with a good one, you'll see that there is a difference! My DVD player came with a very cheap-looking cable with three RCA connectors on each side, and I used this cable to hook up the DVD player to the component (RGB) input of my TV before doing anything else. I dismissed this cable immediately as the picture was much noisier than I expected. A $15 S-Video cable performed better. However, I had to adjust the settings in video equalizer of my DVD player to increase color saturation, and also had to decrease sharpness of the picture to make noise unnoticeable. Finally, I bought the Monster cable (don't tell my wife about it!). This cable resulted in a perfectly sharp and clean picture without any adjustments in the CD player. Due to double-shielding of this cable, there was no sign of the noise that I saw with the S-Video cable either.

I do not know if there is a noticeable difference between this cable and a less sophisticated one that may cost half of its price. I guess, everything depends on the kind of TV and DVD player you are using. But I can say for sure that my experience convinced me that there is a tremendous difference between this high-end cable and those from the very low end.

The last thing: I do not think that it makes any sense to use such an expensive cable for a connection other than component video (Y + two color difference channels), also called "color stream" by Toshiba. If you do not have a component video input, use either S-video, or composite video (Video+2 audio connector). In the latter case (or if you need a cable to connect your VCR) a cheaper cable would do. This one is worth the money only if you do not want to settle for anything less than perfect.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Quality just Way Overpriced!!
These and all other brand cables from MC are all overpriced including these. I have a 20" JVC I'Art television and I have my DVD connected through component. I have used Monster Cable component cables and they put out pretty much the exact same picture as my newer PHILIPS brand component cables that I only had to pay about [$$$] or so for. The PHILIPS are also shielded and gold plated and all that good stuff. So buy these MC component cables if you dont care about price, but otherwise buy PHILIPS brand that are way cheaper and put out the same quality picture.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Cable at Good Price
Recently bought a Analog Big Screen TV. Switched from S-Video to Component cables. There is a big difference. The picture looks more film like with Component cables. Do not hesitate to upgrade. Stay away from cheap Wally World brands. You get what you pay for. The S-Video cable I used was Monster Cable M1000 sv.

    Amazon.com Product Description

Monster Cable's Monster Video 2 (MV2) component-video cable uses high-purity, high-density copper stranding for lower signal loss and heightened protection from video noise--both of which are real considerations in complex, high-resolution home theaters, especially over a six-foot cable run like this cable provides.

The cable's double shielding blocks most electromagnetic and radio-frequency interference, while its low-loss insulator delivers efficient signal transfers from your satellite receiver, DVD player, gaming console, or camcorder.

The MV2CV's straight-cut turbine RCA and split-tip pins provide excellent contact pressure at both ends, while its corrosion-resistant 24k gold contacts ensure high signal integrity. If you've already adopted the sensible habit of cleaning your cable contacts with alcohol every so often, you'll find you can afford to do it a little less often when using gold-tipped interconnects.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great cables, horrible price
I haven't actually owned these Monster Video 2 Component cables, but I did own the Monster Video 3 Component cables which run for about 100 bux for the same length. If you're going to run all over these cables and pound them with hammers then these cables are wonderful. But if these cables sit quietly behind your audio and video equipment then these cables function as well any other component video cable.

Whether or not you really see a big difference in picture quality will depend on your setup. For example, my TV is a JVC rear projection that upconverts all video to 1080i so that the use of component connections at 480p is not a very big difference in picture quality. And of course your dvd player should have progressive scanning if you want to capitalize on the benefits of component connections to begin with. Also, having the same manufacturer for your TV and DVD player tends to yield better results in general.

The point being that all of these others factors and more will determine the quality of your video much more so than any 'special' cables. The cables do no work, they are just a medium that signals must pass through. Hence, the better cables are the ones that preserve the 75 ohm signal without distortion. But this is precisely the problem with ALL component cables that use RCA interconnects. The physics of the RCA connection do not allow for the ideal 75 ohms to pass through unmolested by interference, regardless of how great the cable is or how much it costs. In fact, the implementation of RCA interconnects was never intended for video use. It began as an audio solution and manufacturers gradually implemented it instead of the BNC interconnect because of cheaper costs and user familiarity.

In the end, I don't think these more expensive cables make a noticable difference in performance. For that matter, I don't see why people prefer to use toslink (optical) over digital coaxial. The toslink is much more unstable and sensitive to movement even though it's not susceptible to electrical interference since it uses light (but using light also requires the hardware to do more work in translating the signal). Point being that the audio quality is identical, but the toslink just costs more. Here again, the cable is not 'special', it only acts as a medium for signals to pass through, your actual equipment does all the work. So the ultimate question: Is it justifiable to spend so much more money on these high-end cables? Sure it is, in the same way some people choose to buy a Rolex over a Timex.

2-0 out of 5 stars Buy the Cheap ones!
Using the component input on your TV can make a huge difference in picture quality, but the differentce between the lower priced monster cables and the most expensive monster cables in not noticeable. Save yourself $50 and buy the cheap ones.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another quality product from Monster Cable
After having some trouble with the picture on my DirecTV, I decided to try replacing the cables. It was probably the best decision I could have made.

If you've got a lot of things connected in a home theater environment, then you probably know how the signal from some wires can somehow cross over to the other wires close by, and cause little zig-zag lines on your television set or static in the sound. Quite annoying, and fairly common with the cheap free-in-the-box wires, it seems.

These cables from Monster not only improved my picture and sound, but I was impressed at how thick and strong they were. They just blow the cheap wires out of the water if you compare them side-by-side. The high quality design, gold plated connectors, and double shielded coatings work wonders in preventing radio interference and static from other wires and sources. There really is a difference, and it shows. Yet another great product from Monster Cable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent- But there's another option
Someone recommended checking out the J2HCAMSM6 which is the same as this product but twice as long and $10 less. If the extra length does not interest you, there is a better option.

For the same price as this excellent product, you can buy an even better Monster Cable, model number I203ASVP1M POD 203. It is an all-in-one cable with even better materials and will help minimize tangled wires. The easiest way to find it is to click on the "high performance connection kits" link while browsing the Monster Cable "audio-video hook-up kits." Check it out.

5-0 out of 5 stars For a better buy...
look up the "Monster Cable J2 HCAM SM-6 Hi-8/S-VHS" kit. Although it is titled for camcorders, it has the Super Video 2 (6 ft) and the Interlink 250 (6 ft) for $10 less. Trust me on this one... I went and looked at the packages to compare. You can also look up the products on the Monster Cable homepage. Enjoy listening! ... Read more

These cables are super with my new DVD player. There is absolutely no interference from my other home theater equipment. The picture is soo clear, and vivid. The cables themselves are really made well, they could hold up 100 pounds of weight no doubt. If you get these Monster cables you won't be sorry.

I replaced the standard video cable running from my Monster splitter to my aging, 70" Mitsubishi projection TV. I had been so pleased with the signal splitter I figured this too would be a big performance booster. It wasn't. It's certainly good quality cable and connectors, but I didn't get a good return on my investment. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Up to Expectations
I just received my unit and had problems with the first five tapes I attempted to rewind. The lid opened before the tape was rewound and I would have to try again. This morning I successfully rewound two tapes. May have been operator error, but I don't think so. If I have any more problems, I will have to return it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great value, reliable, quiet, what more could you want?
For the price this little rewinder is amazingly quiet. I've had it for a year now and it still has never given me any problems. Certain tapes will cause a little noise, but I think it's the tape, not the rewinder. For the most part this one hums very nicely and only pops up when it's either finished or encounters tape problems. I can't imagine paying more for any other model when this one works so well!

5-0 out of 5 stars The only tape rewinder I'll ever use.
I've had 2 other tape rewinders in the past, and both of them sounded awful, clacking and whirring away like they were shredding my tapes. Also, the lids often popped up before the rewinding was finished.
This one, though, just has a pleasant, gentle little hum and does what it's supposed to.
It's nice to see that a company actually put some effort into this invaluable but mundane necessity of every VCR owner.
And the price is right too! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Fragile F-Pin connectors
Beware, the F-Pin connectors are very fragile. Even a small amount of tug applied to the connectors will pull it right off the cable. For the amount of money I spent on the Monster Video Cable, they should have been stronger. I picked a cheap length of cable at my local hardware store and the connectors were virtually indestructable. Monster Cable should manufacture a more robust product. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Only way to go!
Without getting into specific minute details, that to me really make the biggest difference in video, I would absolutely get nothing else in a S video cable, if I were you! There is no reson why you should be watching your DVD movies without the best technology has to offer in transfering the image to your screen. Obviousely I would first recommend a high quality television, and a stellar DVD player as well! Using these cables on anything less would be like using 95 octane gasoline on a Geo (ie defeating the purpose of high performance!)

5-0 out of 5 stars This Product Won't Make Your System Better
This cable will not make your system better. It will allow your system to perform as well as it possibly can. The quality of this product is typical of Monster Cable products. Excellent materials and workmanship are evident throughout.

I'm not one to believe marketing literature but I do see a signal improvement with this product over some bargain basement cables. Shielding is important in video cables. Though all S-video cables are inherently shielded by design, Monster goes the extra mile and shields this cable once again. This is overkill but I do feel it is necessary. A 2 meter version of this product shows no appreciable signal loss when directly compared with a 1 meter version.

I used to be one of those fanatics who made his own interconnect cables. But I discovered some years ago that Monster Cable interconnects were of at least equal quality for a fairly reasonable price.

This mid-range product is well worth the price. You can spend much more and not get that much more. But you are likely to get less if you spend less.

5-0 out of 5 stars They stand behind their products
I had a pair of these cables for approximately 2 years when i noticed there was a frayed end where the connector started to come off. I didn't notice any change in performance but I recalled that ALL Monster Cable "wires" have a lifetime warranty. I thought I'd try and take advantage of their claim and low and behold, I easily made arrangements to have a new one exchanged. It took only a week of waiting (back and forth shipping, mind you) and I had a brand spanin' new cable in my possesion. Great customer service!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars I am unable to verify its ultra high performance
~I bought the MVSV3-1m cable and put it between my Pioneer V555 DVD player and SONY WEGA tv KV-27FS12, I was unable to see with my naked eyes any improvement regading the visual quality, color, sharpness. Same as the result as I used the composite cable came with the box. I really don't know why. I have to say, my TV is a good one and the picture quality is already satisfactory even I don't use DVD player. Unfortunately my DVD player does not have component jack to let me try the next level video~~ experience. I don't want to say this expensive cable is a poor one, I was just unable to verify its alledged ultra high performance. we just don't have a benchmark to evaluate it.~

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money !!!
No difference compared to another good cable costing 1/2 as much.
Don't believe me - buy and then return it, or just save yourself

2-0 out of 5 stars Monster Cable
I dont like monster cable, forgive me in saying if you just have a
vcr, or dvd connecting to your tv and go with monsters highest
grade cable thats ok.another thing with monster cables i dont like is, you push your monster cable on the back of your dvd player, and it is locked on you some times just about have to use
channel lock plyers to get them off.now monster might say that this is a locking cable nothing do it. but any ways if you have
bought monster and dont like the locking on the cable, you can take a 30 carbine shell that has been fired (meaning no bullet)
and spread the interconnects on both sides then you can get them
cables off with out messing up your dvd.now someone was talking
about (TRIBUTARIES CABLE) you can buy tributaries cheaper than
monster, you buy stright from factory and it can be costly.
find dealer that buys cable from tributaries and makes the cable
any size you want.look on the auction sites.i also like (D H LABS) and you can buy the cable off them, and build yourself.

5-0 out of 5 stars not a hype
At first, I hesitated buying these monster s-vid cables because I thought those who pay a lot for their cables were suckers. After hearing all the hype, I got this. To my surprise, this cable did make a difference to the picture quality. There is definitely a visible difference in pic.quality. In my observation, I notice more vibrant colors, more defined edges and most obvious of all, the details in the black had improved tremendously. There is another high-grade s-video cable on the market by "tributaries." But it costs alot s for 1m cable. Ouch. Get these monster cables. You will better enjoy your dvd player.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for any DVD player
The secret of utilizing the full potential of your DVD player is in the power transference from unit to television. Don't trust your power to anything other than Monster Cables. Straight out of the box, toss the factory cables...don't even plug them in. Using these cheap cables is a waste of time. I recently purchased a Toshiba SD1600 (you can read my review here at Amazon) and thought nothing of paying the extra money based solely on the reviews I read. I also purchased the RCA's from Monster cable, which comes with a video cable. Just a tip, you can save money by buying the Monster Cable S-Video DVD player Just Hook It Up kit. That way you aren't bothered by the superfluous video composite cable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Monster makes the difference!
I just recently bought a Sony DVP-S560D model DVD player to replace my older, more out of date player. I hooked it up, and to my surprise, it wasn't any better than my old player as far as quality. Then I purchased S-Video cables from Monster Video and now the colors are more vibrant, the picture is in higher-res, and I can see every little detail on the screen. The picture quality that these S-Video cables produce are surpassed only by component video cables, which cost many times more the price. If you are considering buying these cables then just consider that for the price of only one DVD, you can get better performance and picture quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very nice
I found this product to be very beneficiary in the overall quality of sound and picture. I t improved it by a good 40%. Its a safe and beneficial purchase. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Monster Cable MV2R-2M - Well worth the price!
For the discerning audio/videophile, this particular video cable is somewhat of a necessity in their home theater. Several recent upgrades and additions to my first and second theater systems necessitated several new cables of various types. When it came down to insuring the best picture possible in the video connection between both receivers and televisions, Monster Cable's MV2R-2M and SV1R-1M were the clear choices.

As the advertising on the packaging states:

    -Best Possible Resolution
    -Most Natural Color Rendition
    -Excellent Overall Video Performance

So far, in both systems, I've found these statements by Monster Cable Company to be dead on accurate. In combination with my Sony receivers, DVD players and televisions these video cables have delivered outstanding video performance in all cases.

    Overall, I highly recommend these products or any other cable products by Monster Cable Company as every cable of theirs I've used so far has delivered nothing but high performance, easily defraying the slightly higher costs for their products. {ssintrepid}

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good cable..
I've recently tried out the Monster Video 2 RCA connectors in my home theater system. They seem to carry more than enough bandwidth for VCRs, and pretty good quality on DVD. I noticed a slight bit of noise when using Monster Video 2, but so fine that its not incredibly noticeable on a 25 inch tv. Other than that, it seems to work fine. Good cable. ... Read more
