Funny thing is, I bought this just to transfer approx 10 tapes onto DVD (feeding VCR output into computer), and then probably wouldn't need it anymore. I used it twice, and then couldn't even get the VCR to turn on. Unfortunately, this was after 3 months of business travel, so warranty expired - out of luck. When I called JVC, they said I could take it to a service center for an hourly labor - yeah right! I noticed the fuse inside was blown, but every time I replaced it, it would just blow again. I never liked JVC for other devices, but thought they might make good VCR's. Now I will never buy anything from them period.
Also, if you have a cheap, or small TV you won't notice much difference... buy a cheap VCR. If you have a high quality TV or widescreen (me-2 Wegas & a DLP projector) These machines are the most economical way to record DVD quality programming. Beware you get what you pay for, the cheapest s-vhs machines will not be as good as a more expensive one. If you got a Wega, something like it or widescreen, invest a little more on the VCR & tapes. I find there is 1 fundimental flaw with all s-vhs machines though. They seem to need a "breaking in" period where they won't record a nice pic in the EP speed in s-vhs. You have to use the machine in SP or ordinary VHS when using EP until the heads wear a little. The pic is better after after the heads wear down a little in EP s-vhs. As an electronics sevice tech, & a videophile, I'll never go back to ordinary VHS.

I do not know if there is a noticeable difference between this cable and a less sophisticated one that may cost half of its price. I guess, everything depends on the kind of TV and DVD player you are using. But I can say for sure that my experience convinced me that there is a tremendous difference between this high-end cable and those from the very low end. The last thing: I do not think that it makes any sense to use such an expensive cable for a connection other than component video (Y + two color difference channels), also called "color stream" by Toshiba. If you do not have a component video input, use either S-video, or composite video (Video+2 audio connector). In the latter case (or if you need a cable to connect your VCR) a cheaper cable would do. This one is worth the money only if you do not want to settle for anything less than perfect.
By separating you Blue and Red Colors this provides a pure signal to the TV where it is combined through comb filters for the sharpest picture presentation. Results, the best picture available!!!! Monster Cables are the best value and provide outstanding results!! NOTE: The next level of video Excellence is moving to PROGRESSIVE SCAN see my SD-6200 review. ... Read more |

Amazon.com Product Description The cable's double shielding blocks most electromagnetic and radio-frequency interference, while its low-loss insulator delivers efficient signal transfers from your satellite receiver, DVD player, gaming console, or camcorder. The MV2CV's straight-cut turbine RCA and split-tip pins provide excellent contact pressure at both ends, while its corrosion-resistant 24k gold contacts ensure high signal integrity. If you've already adopted the sensible habit of cleaning your cable contacts with alcohol every so often, you'll find you can afford to do it a little less often when using gold-tipped interconnects. Whether or not you really see a big difference in picture quality will depend on your setup. For example, my TV is a JVC rear projection that upconverts all video to 1080i so that the use of component connections at 480p is not a very big difference in picture quality. And of course your dvd player should have progressive scanning if you want to capitalize on the benefits of component connections to begin with. Also, having the same manufacturer for your TV and DVD player tends to yield better results in general. The point being that all of these others factors and more will determine the quality of your video much more so than any 'special' cables. The cables do no work, they are just a medium that signals must pass through. Hence, the better cables are the ones that preserve the 75 ohm signal without distortion. But this is precisely the problem with ALL component cables that use RCA interconnects. The physics of the RCA connection do not allow for the ideal 75 ohms to pass through unmolested by interference, regardless of how great the cable is or how much it costs. In fact, the implementation of RCA interconnects was never intended for video use. It began as an audio solution and manufacturers gradually implemented it instead of the BNC interconnect because of cheaper costs and user familiarity. In the end, I don't think these more expensive cables make a noticable difference in performance. For that matter, I don't see why people prefer to use toslink (optical) over digital coaxial. The toslink is much more unstable and sensitive to movement even though it's not susceptible to electrical interference since it uses light (but using light also requires the hardware to do more work in translating the signal). Point being that the audio quality is identical, but the toslink just costs more. Here again, the cable is not 'special', it only acts as a medium for signals to pass through, your actual equipment does all the work. So the ultimate question: Is it justifiable to spend so much more money on these high-end cables? Sure it is, in the same way some people choose to buy a Rolex over a Timex.

If you've got a lot of things connected in a home theater environment, then you probably know how the signal from some wires can somehow cross over to the other wires close by, and cause little zig-zag lines on your television set or static in the sound. Quite annoying, and fairly common with the cheap free-in-the-box wires, it seems. These cables from Monster not only improved my picture and sound, but I was impressed at how thick and strong they were. They just blow the cheap wires out of the water if you compare them side-by-side. The high quality design, gold plated connectors, and double shielded coatings work wonders in preventing radio interference and static from other wires and sources. There really is a difference, and it shows. Yet another great product from Monster Cable.
For the same price as this excellent product, you can buy an even better Monster Cable, model number I203ASVP1M POD 203. It is an all-in-one cable with even better materials and will help minimize tangled wires. The easiest way to find it is to click on the "high performance connection kits" link while browsing the Monster Cable "audio-video hook-up kits." Check it out.

I'm not one to believe marketing literature but I do see a signal improvement with this product over some bargain basement cables. Shielding is important in video cables. Though all S-video cables are inherently shielded by design, Monster goes the extra mile and shields this cable once again. This is overkill but I do feel it is necessary. A 2 meter version of this product shows no appreciable signal loss when directly compared with a 1 meter version. I used to be one of those fanatics who made his own interconnect cables. But I discovered some years ago that Monster Cable interconnects were of at least equal quality for a fairly reasonable price. This mid-range product is well worth the price. You can spend much more and not get that much more. But you are likely to get less if you spend less.

As the advertising on the packaging states: -Best Possible Resolution So far, in both systems, I've found these statements by Monster Cable Company to be dead on accurate. In combination with my Sony receivers, DVD players and televisions these video cables have delivered outstanding video performance in all cases. Overall, I highly recommend these products or any other cable products by Monster Cable Company as every cable of theirs I've used so far has delivered nothing but high performance, easily defraying the slightly higher costs for their products. {ssintrepid}
