5-0 out of 5 stars So Easy to Install and Use!
Hi,

I bought this device to transfer my cell phone address book to my computer. With this in mind, I heartily recommend the Bluetooth USB adapter. The only negative point of this product is the high price. Read my detailed comments below:

Easy to Install
---------------
The installation was really easy! I just popped in the CD and followed the directions! I have Windows 2K, by the way.

Actually Works
--------------
Better yet was the cool way that the transfer worked w/o any whack errors!

Familiar User Interface
-----------------------
There is a set of "folders" called something like "Bluetooth neighborhood" that shows up in the explorer bar. This shows you the devices connected by Bluetooth to your PC etcetera!

My limited use has already made me so happy, that I am DYING to find out what else I can use Bluetooth for.

Still Costs Too Much
---------------------
The only bad thing is the PRICE. It seems like something like this should cost like 5 bucks. But I guess Linksys has to pay for Research and Development or something. I think the price should drop, though. So if you are on a budget, wait a few months.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product!
This is a great little adapter. It works great on both PC's and Mac's with Windows XP and OS X. I love it. Simple to use, no drivers needed for mac's. It has a really good signal, too, enabling me to use my phone 2 floors away from my computer! Its great!

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy Way To Synchronize Mobile Phone and PC
After researching different websites on an inexpensive way to connect my Sony Ericsson T610 and PC via Bluetooth I ended up choosing this product over others...I made the right choice! While the software involved isn't the most user-friendly, it does the job relatively well. I was able to synchronize my phone contacts and notes from Outlook with my phone which took literally seconds to transfer. Like I mentioned before, the software (especially initial configuration), takes some time especially if this is your first experience with Bluetooth. But once it is setup, it is very easy to keep your phone's information up to date. I definitely recommend this product!

5-0 out of 5 stars Not much to say about this
Just plugged it into my Mac and off it went. Couldn't be easier! No drivers to install under OS X, just 100% plug and play.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bluetooth USB device a breeze to use
Was a little hesitant in choosing a device but the Linksys USB bluetooth adapter was a wise choice. Its easy to use, has good range and great customer support ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Does work with Nokia 3650!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought this product for use with my Nokia 3650 (AT&T Wireless). Although the installation was somewhat difficult, the device works great.

Download the PC Suite software from Nokia's website and install it. PC Suite will not work until you connect the cell phone to the computer for the first time, so don't bother opening it yet. Install the D-Link software. Ignore the boxes stating that the software is not supported by Windows XP, it does work. Turn on your cell phone and turn on Bluetooth, leaving it within a reasonable distance of your computer. Make sure the Nokia software is told to search ALL BLUETOOTH COM PORTS to connect. This can be accomplished by opening the system tray program "mRouter" and selecting all the boxes. Pair the cell phone and computer using the D-Link software. If you are running a firewall, either turn it off or click yes when programs start asking for internet access. Then, connect the cell phone to the computer using "My Bluetooth Places" (D-Link Software). A box will come up stating that the cell phone is connected on COM Port 0. Click OK. Almost immediately, a box will come up saying "The Bluetooth Serial Port connection failed: The remote device closed the connection." Click OK and completely disregard the error message. Open up the Nokia software and it will work.

I give this product 4 stars only because of the error box that comes up whenever a connection is made. Otherwise, everything works fine. Believe me, I spent quite a while shopping for a Bluetooth adapter, this is the best choice. If you have a Nokia 3650, it is an absolute must-have.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great on macs
Works perfectly on my 2 1/2 year old iBook with OS X 10.3. Just plug it in and have iSync search for your telephone. Once it's found it, you're in business from now on. All you have to do to is hit the sync button on Isync and that's it. No probs. My friend that also has a Nokia 3650 and a PC can't get the bluetooth to work for the life of him. Sounds like many other people have this hassle. Well, at least your computer was cheap, huh? Guess you didn't think about what your time is worth. My time is worth more than dinking around with a PC and dealing with crashes. I have work to do.

5-0 out of 5 stars Installs flawlessly with a Mac and PC.
This product has been with me for years. I have the revision 3 and I believe they are up to revision 5 already. It has worked flawlessly with my old Sony Ericsson T610 phone. And it works even better with my current Nokia 6600 mobile.

I installed the product in my Apple PowerBook G4 and iBook Dual USB and it instantly recognized the product without any drivers. I also believe this is the same product found inside every Bluetooth-equipped Mac because Apple did release a firmware update to their internal Bluetooth and it included these external D-Link DBT-120 units, if a user had one. (The only problem is that if you updated the firmware that Apple provided, you will not be able to use the D-Link on a PC. I haven't updated mine and never ran into sync problems).

I sync my address book and calendar in Jaguar and Panther OS to my mobile phone and iPod without any hitches.

Pros:
1. Small, compact, light
2. No drivers needed for Mac OS Jaguar and Panther and Windows XP OS.

3. Price. This product used to cost a lot. Now it has dropped down to USD40. Which is great, because this very same product that is installed internally in Macs still cost USD45 for the option. Shouldn't an OEM product installed during production be cheaper? Furthermore, if it's installed internally then you cannot transfer it between computers. The external is cheaper and transferrable.

Cons:
1. The only difficulty I can think of is the implementation of the Bluetooth standard across products.

I love gadgets and find myself tinkering with anything technological so I usually don't have problems making one product operate with another.

The problem with Bluetooth is that there is no standard way to activate and access operation between products. Each product has its own graphic user interface to contend with. Bluetooth is being billed to consumers as an easy plug and play product. I'm sure it is - just not right now as manufacturers are still fiddling with how to integrate it with their products. Hence, other consumers will have to read the manual on how to access and use Bluetooth across products. In products that come with no manual, they will have to be used to fiddling the interface. Until then, I can't wait for the time where Bluetooth actually performs the way it is billed.

If it doesn't work the first time, try to understand the logic behind each product's interface. The problem is that if they can't get it to work, they blame D-Link. If you're computer recognizes the product upon install, then there is no problem. If it doesn't and the activity lights don't work, then send it back. Unlike Wireless/Wired Ethernet products, the user interface is not embedded in the Bluetooth unit. This Bluetooth product is only a vessel. The actual operation is dependent on the computer and interface it has been programmed to interact with Bluetooth.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent device
This is a great adapter which is high quality, and relatively low price. I use it with a laptop running windows XP and a Hewlett-Packard iPAQ 2215.

This adapter is very easy to setup and all of the necessary instructions and software come with the adapter. Setup is a farily automated process and the installation wizard and instruction booklet will guide you through the process.

The adapter lets you use a variety of different services such as internet connection sharing, ActiveSynch, file transfer, and others. All of these services can be enabled/disabled at any point after installation and configuring them is for the most part a simple procedure which can be done by following the instruction on the computer.

The adapter has a very good range of twenty to thirty yards, which is about the maximum a PDA can handle, so connecting to the adapter won't be an issue. Several of my friends and I have PDAs, so I got this adapter so we could all use my laptop as a wireless hub to get online. None of use have had any problems and it can handle several devices using it at once.

As an added bonus the adapter comes with a free USB extension cable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Has not failed me once
This product has not failed me once since the day I bought it. D-link makes quality goods for cheap prices. It is not hard to use, if you have Windows XP it requires no setup, though you might want to install their software anyways, because of its features. I highly recommend this. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Doubts about this product
I am afraid of bying this product. I am "needing" a bluetooth adapter to connect my Nokia 3650 with my Pentium.

Reading the reviews of other adapters I realize I can't buy any type of this advice. Many people are having trouble trying to connect their mobile phones with computers. I've read only 2 reviews about this Trendware adapter, and even though they rate it good, the computer system used is a MAC OS X (mine is a PC Win200), and the cell phone is a Sony Ericsson.

And more, the price is too good to trust so quick.

5-0 out of 5 stars It works!
I have 3 Sony Ericsson T610s and 1 Nokia 3650, this thing works for all of them. The Bluetooth technology itself is a little buggy and takes some patience.

The adapter itself is small and seems sturdy. It also comes with a USB extension cable if your case is really large. It has an orange light on it to tell you if it is getting power. I have not tested the range but from about 15ft away, there are no connection issues. I have moved ringtones, movies, mp3s, programs, games, and pictures without any problems (except the software message below with the 3650). I have even used the bluetooth connection with my phone so I could get dial-up internet access on my laptop anywhere.

If you haven't noticed yet, I like this adapter. It works for everything I wanted it to.

I don't believe the other reviewers when they say it doesn't work with their T610 or 3650 because IT DOES WORK. To prove it, I have added a quick how-to below.

Here is a quick tutorial for the others having trouble or can't get it to work:
1) Install Trendware Software (This was pretty painless)
2) Install Nokia PC-Suite for 3650 or FMA(fLoats Mobile Agent) for T610.
3) Go to My bluetooth
4) Find Devices
5) Right click your device then pair device.
6) Find Connect to Serial Port Icon, and double click it.
7) Wait...even if it says disconnected or failed. The Sonys connected right away and I never had that message, my Nokia I had to wait a few seconds after that message, then it connected perfectly.
8) Fire up PC-Suite or FMA and your good to go!

5-0 out of 5 stars Works as Advertised
Wokrs great with my Nokia phone and version 6.2 of the Nokia PCSync software. Automatically detects my phone, even if it's in the other room, 25 ft. away.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works GREAT with Mac OS X
I bought this based on another readers review concerning this adaptor with osX and yes, it's perfect! I have no idea why Mac compatibility isn't listed but with OSX you just plug it in and it works. I'm running 10.3.4 as of this writing and absolutely no issues to speak of. And it's 15 bucks less than the adaptor that Apple recommends. Choice is good!....

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Product!
I had no setup issues whatsoever. I bought it to use with my Motorola V600 mobile phone. I installed the Trendware software and drivers on my desktop which uses Windows XP Home Edition and my laptop which uses Windows 2000 Professional. After an easy setup my computers & phone recognized each other. It couldn't have been simpler. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Performance, great price
I'm using this adapter to connect to my bluetooth headset using the headset profile. It's working great and it's very cool to walk around the house as I'm holding a voice conversation on MSN Messenger. The new version of bluetooth (1.2) is a definite improvement from the previous 1.1 standard. The 1.2 standard allows for frequency hoping so you can use it along with your wireless internet connection with minimal frequency interference. Before this new adapter, I could barely connect because of the direct interference. I'm very happy with the connection quality now and I rarely have connection issues. I'm using a new Logitech 1.2 compliant bluetooth headset to connect to my PC. The sound quality is great. You can't beat the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Adapter
This bluetooth adapter works like a charm on my Dell PC, with XP, SP1. Set up was simple. What I like most about this adapter is how intuitive it is to use. For instance, all I need to do is right click on any word document or MP3, and I can easily send it to any bluetooth enabled device, whether it's my Palm, SE T610 cellphone or laptop. Bluetooth Version 1.2 was important to me because I have a wifi network set up in my house and I needed as little interference as possible.

I've also been able to surf the web via the Bluetooth modem and hotsync my Zire 72 and T5 via Bluetooth. Very cool.

There's lots of other things I plan to do via Bluetooth, like sending faxes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good little adapter!
First of all, contrary to what a previous reviewer has said about "checp laptops reaching 50 degrees C easily" - this is tru, but it does not matter! This is USB adapter, and as such is ouside your laptop, i.e. at room temperature. So, unless the laptop's air exhaust is blowing straight over the USB ports, this is not an issue!

Now, the adapter uses the WIDCOMM BT commans stack, which is apparently one of the better ones out there (certainly seems to be better than Windows XP's default one!). I'm no expert on BT, but a little research on the web seems to confirm this. This stack is quite compatible with Skype, which is the whole reason I bought this adapter and the Logitech MobileFreedom headset in the first place... ;]

Points of note:

1. The headset needs to be connected from the computer, not from the headset side. It uses the audio gateway stack by default to communicate over Skype (configure Skype to use your Bluetooth Audio device rather than the default one - this option is available as of version 1.2 at least, maybe earlier). If you try and use your headset's call pickup button, likelyhood is that it'll connect and then disconnect because there's no phone app to pick up the call (Skype is not BT-compatible by default).

2. There is a Skype third-party add-on (http://www.skypeheadset.co.uk/) that should work with this - have not tried it yet, but the comms stack is supported, so it should be OK.

3. Range: wow! I walked from one end of the office to the other, had continous good, clear connection with this adapter and headset combo. Impressive!

Altogether I'm quite happy with it. Now if only Skype had more built-in support for BT headsets and voice-activated dialing, I'd be truly happy! ;]

Note, that the operating temperature is only 0-50°C!

1-0 out of 5 stars doesn't seem to work
I may have bought a lemon, but so far...

1) Neither iMac recognises it as anything.

2) A Windows XP system, after loading the software, sees an "unknown USB device" but can't decide what it is.

Various reinstalls of software have done nothing whatsoever.

5-0 out of 5 stars works great
This adapter works very well compared to the Sony bluetooth adapter I tried (and returned). The Ambicom has good compatability between brands, and the software enables you to link easily with different services. There is even an option in the software to set up an ActiveSync connection, and a proxy internet connection for your PPC. Now my ipaq and vaio can sync easily without wires, using ActiveSync. In the setup, getting the COMport numbers correct can be a bit tricky -- it's important to pay attention to the steps in installation, and to consult your PDA manual. Also, I find I need to connect to ActiveSync (on the ipaq) through the bluetooth manager, which is easy, no problem. Once it's set up, it connects perfectly every time. A relief, after struggling with the Sony adapter and software -- and the Ambicom is half the price -- so I give this one 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works as promised! Installation a snap!
Having read some of the reviews for other Bluetooth adapters out there, I was a bit reluctant to get a product from a relatively unknown maker. I'm glad I gave it a chance!

I installed it on my home XP Pro (SP1) system on a USB 1.1 (powered) hub! It installed in minutes, and a couple of clicks after that, I was synchronizing my iPAQ 2215 via a bluetooth connection.

This item comes with short USB extension cable. I won't use it since I think it's safer to have the adapter securely plugged into my hub, but I do understand why some people may find it helpful. The adapter itself is very compact, and it doesn't take up more than its share of space on my hub, thus allowing me to use all the plugs next to it.

There are two versions of the latest software for this model, depending on your unit's serial number... Make sure to select the correct one if you download the latest drivers.

There isn't anything special about the design or looks of this small adapter, but so far it's worked perfectly for me. I don't know the exact distances but I've been able to connect my PDA from anywhere in my apartment.

I hope you have a similar experience to mine! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars works nice, windows has problems
I was able to connect to my T610 on XP without any extra software installation. But the Belkin bluetooth GPS is problematic, had no luck with that yet. The software that comes with this device does not work with later service packs of XP, which have built-in bluetooth support.

The coolest part is that you don't have to hold your phone in position, or even near your computer to connect to internet through it (I use Tmobile).

It has a neon blue light inside the plastic, but it's impossible to see that blink in daylight. I guess that's why other people haven't noticed it.

If you have a gift certificate and a nice bluetooth phone, this is a good choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Class 1 Device. Simple, Plug and Play. Works as Advertised.
I bought two of these, one for my Windoze 98 Sony laptop and one for my G4 desktop Mac. The drivers for Windoze were included, with the warning that there is only limited support of Bluetooth functionality under Windoze 98. Newer Windoze operating systems support full functionality. Mac OS 10.2.X (Jaguar) has built in support for Bluetooth, although an update is available via the Software Update control panel.

Installation was easy- just follow the included instructions. I am able to connect the computers to share files, as well as Hotsync both computers with a Sony Clie TG-50 via bluetooth. The Hotsync is not as fast as using the USB cradle, but it's nice to be able to do it while watching TV or walking around the house... of course you still need to plug in the PDA to charge it on occasion.

This adapter is a Class 1 device, which means it works up to 100 yards (660 feet). This was a large factor in my decision to purchase this adapter over the others. Most other adapters are Class 2 or 3 (lower Class number = longer distance), which work at roughly 50 yards (330 feet). Most PDA's are Class 2.
Inside a house with walls, furnature, cordless phones, microwaves and the like... expect much less. I can connect my Clie with either computer about 100 feet through a wall. The computers connect through a wall about 200 feet.

Palm and Sony have updates to connect PDA's to the newer Bluetooth enabled phones as well- enabling you to send contact and calendar information back/forth, exchange photos on camera equipped phones and even access the internet on your PDA via the cell phone connection (with the proper service plan of course).

My package included an instruction booklet for all Windows/Macintosh, a driver CD for Windows and a lanyard to attach to the adapter. The adapter is surprisingly light and small, the lanyard is a nice touch especially for laptop users. The IOGear website has drivers and instructions as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's like taking candy from a baby.....
I was iffy as to wether I should purchase this adapter after having read some of the reviews and looking over the ratings. I decided to take a chance, seeing that most negative reviews showed some for of misunderstanding on the buyer's behalf. Either it seemed like they did not know how to properly install it, or did not bother to check the compatibility list. I'm glad I took that chance. This device is great! It works great, it has a slick, compact, and low-profile look. It definetely works within a typical apartment/house. I have taken this as far out as 210 feet with no problems whatsoever. It DEFINETELY works with your typical HP/COMPAQ dekstop and it is compatible with all Blutetooth enabled Pocket PC's from HP/COMPAQ. My wife has a 1945, it works. I have a 3975, it works. My buddy has a 5555, it works. My mother has a 3870, it works. Don't be fooled by others mistakes. I have yet to test it with a cell phone. I myself don't own a bluetooth enabled phone, and I don't know many people who do. Notebooks work too. My COMPAQ Evo worked great (you need to adapter's for this) The range is great, and the price is even better. You get what you pay for ladies and gentlemen. You won't regret this purchase. Enjoy!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazingly, it works well!
I was initially hesitant about purchasing a USB Bluetooth adaptor for my HP Pavillion Notebook runnig Windows XP: the numerous mixed reviews for this product and other similiar products gave me nightmares of messing around for hours with a touchy device.

However, I was very pleasantly surprised when I got this thing up and running within 10 minutes on the 1st try. No problems whatsoever. Better still, it easily allowed me to sync with my Nokia N-gage using PC-Suite - another piece of software that alot of people seem to have trouble with.

The software that installs with it seems pretty comprehensive and gives me confindence with trying other Bluetooth peripherals. Good job Iogear! Perhaps because I was running a relatively new computer and that I keep Windows updated, made this a pain-free experience!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Bluetooth USB Adapter
Bought it to sync a Sony Ericsson T616 cell phone with my laptop running XP and it worked great. Very easy to install and use - the software provided works even better than the cell phone's. Have not tested at long range yet but I don't really see the need to do file transfer or Outlook sync from other than the computer room... ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Connectivity problems with Nokia 3650
I had a nightmare trying to connect my Nokia 3650 to my PC running XP. The adapter comes with Widcomm Bluetooth software 1.2.2.18. There was no update available from the Hawking's website. Installing the software and the bluetooth adapter was straight forward. However, trying to get a connection established between the PC and the phone was a huge ordeal. Every time I initiated a connection and enter all the passcodes, I get an error message saying the phone disconnected. There is no explaination why this error occured. When I tried to reconnect, I get another error message. It took me a while to realize I needed to unpair both the phone and the pc before a new connection will work. I tried connecting from the pc, the phone and reinstalling the software. Nothing worked. During the reinstall, windows couldn't find bluetooth device driver. Pointing windows to the cdrom didn't work. Only pointing it to c:/windows/system32 got me past that one. After pulling my hair out for 5 hours, I finally found the solution using a google search.

1. unpair the phone and pc
2. find the COM port used in the bluetooth setup->config->local services->bluetooth serial port
3. configure mRouter to use the COM port found above
4. connect/pair the phone and pc
5. you still get the connect error message
6. start PC Suite

Steps 2 and 3 are very important. Once I did all that, the connection worked. I don't know if the problem was because of the phone or Widcomm's software, but I got it to work. I hope this helps anyone else who may encounter the same problem.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just alright: Bluetooth is not ready for primetime.
I wasn't too impressed with this dongle, which is why I turned around and sold it. Bottomline: it installed simply in WinXP, and did connect to my Palm Tungsten successfully. But Bluetooth is just not ready for prime time. Which I suppose is not the fault of this HT adapter, but the fault of the IEEE. However, as far as this product goes, the software worked very well and the signal strength in my apartment was always good. The constant need to validate connection on both the handheld and the PC was the deal breaker for me. If I'm 25 feet away and want to access an email or webpage, it's a massive pain in the backside to have to get up and walk over to the computer in order to accept the BT connection. And it entirely defeats the purpose of having a wireless device in the first place!

1-0 out of 5 stars New driver on CD works with Nokia 3650 but will expire
I bought the dongle to use with my nokia 3650. The supplied driver version is 1.4.2.10. The setup took minutes and it worked fine on both Windows XP professional and Win98SE desktops. However, within a few weeks, the drivers stops working, prompting "Bluetooth license check failed." Hawkings support has not returned my emails after two weeks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Purchase!
Any person can use without any problems, its easy to install and to use. It detects bluetooth devices fast and connects with them even faster. I definetly recommend it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Early review, still working on it
I just got this USB adapter 2/17/2004 and after installing the software and drivers I was able to get a connection with my XP box and my Ipaq 2215. I'm very impress with the sync speed, almost as fast as the cradle station. The only problem so far is that I can't connect to the internet yet, it may be a software problem; I'm still working on the issue.
Will post a better review after a couple of days. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Keyspan Bluetooth Adapter
Contrary to the product description, this adapter is not compatible with the Apple Macintosh with a USB port. I have an I-book G-4 that is Bluetooth enabled and it could not recognize the Kespan adapter (BT-A).

I emailed Keyspan for technical support and never received a response. Thus, I had to send this back to Amazon and lost $4.00.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works well with Nokia 3650 when lastest drivers used
I purchased the 3Com Bluetooth USB Adapter to connect my Nokia 3650 to my Dell Inspiron 3500 Notebook (running Windows 2000 Professional). Using the version of Nokia PC Suite which came with the 3650 I could not connect. However, once I downloaded the lastest version of PC Suite (version 3.0 18-Nov-2003) from Nokia, and the latest 3Com drivers (bub1_2_10en.exe 30-Apr-2003) everything worked.
The 3Com bluetooth software works with no tweaking, and has a good manual and FAQ installed on the laptop.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Adapter, Excellent Software
First, let me say that I'm writing this review with significant experience with other adapters. I work with a lot of Bluetooth technology, and I've made it a point to try different companies' adapters. Most Bluetooth USB adapters are based on the same two chipsets, so the software, form-factor, and range are the biggest issues most users will need to look at. The 3Com adapter is a good adapter, with the most intuitive software I've seen yet. This means that most users not experience with Bluetooth technology will have an easier time using it. Believe me; Bluetooth is not always easy to get working (as a previous reviewer stated). However, do your homework to make sure your device is compatible before you buy it...
Regarding the form factor, it could be a little smaller, and the blinking blue LED is VERY bright! However the adapter wins on the "cool factor" having a blue light-conducting strip across the adapter. Range is average for this class of adapter at 10m (33ft.). I hope this helps!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not compatible with Nokia 3650
I bought the 3com USB Bluetooth adapter to syncronize my desktop calendar and contacts with my Nokia 3650. The adapter is not compatible with Nokia PC suite which is necessary to be able to synchronize calendar and contacts. I would not recommend it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Use the manual
If you follow the manual verbatim, you will have no problems setting this up. I didn't follow it at first and tried to do the traditional plug and play technique like all my other hardware. That gave me the INF errors as well.

Use the manual!

To fix INF error, either uninstall and reinstall (using manual), or Add New Harware, find Bluetooth device, tell Windows you want to select drivers from specific location, and choose your cd-rom drive. If you don't, Windows tries to use a comparable driver that is not fully compatible and that's why you get the error.

Pros
- Inexpensive

- Easy to Use after install

- Alot of functionality for the software

Cons
- Range wasn't as far as I expected. I only get 15 feet before I get a weak signal. Optimal range is within 10 feet.

- Manual doesnt use traditional methods for install. This is what people mess up on. Don't plug it in until the other software is installed. Then you have to hit cancel on menus where you would normally hit next.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quick and easy installation and use.
Following the instructions, I had this installed in less than ten minutes (Windows XP). It is as easy to use as a hard drive, and I haven't had any problems with it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy
You will have big problem installing. I simply returned it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible
I bought this to connect with my Nokia 3650 phone, but didn't even get to the point of finding out if it worked with the phone because it didn't work on the computer. Everytime I plugged it in it gave me a message about a missing section in the inf. The technical support phone number in the install guide is not their phone number. I went to the website and got the proper tech support number and after hours on the phone the company could not solve the problem. I don't recommend this product at all.

3-0 out of 5 stars UPDATE
After talking to tech support for two hours, I got it working. The problem is with Windows XP Service Pack 1a. If you keep Windows updated (and you should), the driver won't install on a system upgraded to 1a. The tech did not have any idea whether they plan to upgrade their driver.

In essence, here is how to get it working:
1. Install the software that comes with the device.
2. Go to C:\Windows\Inf
3. Look for the highest numbered file named oemXX.inf (where XX is the number)
4. Subtract ten from the XX number above.
5. Double click on the oemXX-10.inf file (where "XX-10" is the highest number you see, minus 10)
In other words, if the highest numbered oem file is oem43.inf, you would open up oem33.inf.
6. Make sure the file has the text "WIDCOMM Bluetooth USB Device Installation Script" at the top of it. If it doesn't, find the oemXX.inf file that does.
7. Instead of letting Windows find the driver automatically, you need to go into device manager and find the device yourself. If it is plugged in, it probably appears with an exclamation mark to show that there is something wrong.
8. Select the device, choose "update driver", and point it to the inf file that you found in step 6.

Hopefully it is now installed without the dreaded "Required information from the INF file is missing" message.

I upped my rating to 3 stars, since it does in fact work now... though installation was far too messy. Before calling tech support, I tried using the "updated driver" found on their website, but it has the same problem.

SP1a has been out for a while now. Actiontec should release an updated driver. I will think very hard before buying another one of their products. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great!
I had no problem installing this on on XP machine. It doesn't work with Win 2003 server yet, but tech support said they are working on drivers and will be available soon.

Iogear's customer support is good, I emailed them and received a response same day.

Works great with my Sony Ericsson T-610.

2-0 out of 5 stars Operating range is poor
I purchased this item so I could HotSync my Palm Tungsten T3 from my couch which is 15 feet from my computer. According to this product's specs, that should have been well within its operating range. I was very disappointed to find that it only worked within a 10 foot range. I have tried contacting IOGear via email, but they have not responded to my query for help.

1-0 out of 5 stars Does not work with Nokia 3650
This adapter does not work with a Nokia 3650 cell phone! I purchased this because it was the cheapest USB/Bluetooth adapter and from what I had read they pretty much all worked the same. What a mistake. After doing a little research, I've found other postings on the web of others who have had similar problems trying to get this to work with their phones.

Unfortunately, I got the adapter a few days before the phone and I've already thrown away the box. Oh well, $25 down the drain... ... Read more
