1-0 out of 5 stars Bad product - Do not buy it
I never recommended anybody before not to buy a product. I recieved this item today and When I tried to open and use this product, the top opening cover is not opening completely and CD is not turning on (Though Radio is working OK). At first I suspected damage due to packaging/shipping. I closely examined and found that the top opening plastic cover is made delicately and not correctly sitting on the base. A small test of pusing the cover when closed reveals the movement by sideways. Even though the price is low, it is a waste of time to gamble than buying a market tested durable product that works. I am disappointed.... Especially If you buy it online return process is time consuming, discouraging and a real pain.... And I need to reconsider my online buying practice too...

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent buy, with a ONE YEAR guarantee
Amazon's site says this gadget goes well with some brand of Secure Digital memory card. I don't understand the connection. I think it goes better with a Badonkadonk Land Cruiser/ Tank. Here's my review anyway:

    Good:
1~ Easy, logical control layout; no function lock but the control buttons are stiff and snappy enough to make accidental changes unlikely
2~ Good display, not too small to read (better by far than Sony D-NF400)
3~ Rubber feet and line-out jack for non-slip use with kilowatt amp and speakers
4~ Batteries load from back without removing the CD, the battery cover is attached, and there's a tape tab for removing batteries easily
5~ Shock resistance memory buffer works well
6~ Reasonably good FM and AM reception, despite absence of local/distant selector (Sony D-NF400 is far superior but 3X the price and has fussy control layout) Auto-tune works well
    7~ Y2K compliant

    Bad:
8~ Recharging feature is "dumb" type and not timed; user must be careful to disconnect charger at the proper time or batteries may be ruined by overcharge (true of NiCd and especially true of NiMH cells; the more they're "cooked", the more capacity they lose and the sooner they short internally). Fortunately the user may switch off the charge function and still use the adapter without charging the batteries in the device.
9~ Headphones supplied are somewhat small, inefficient, and nasty-sounding. This may be of no consequence to an unhelmetedBadonkadonker. Substitution with excellent bargain Philips HS500 cans shows that the machine is capable of excellent sound.
10~ Seems more susceptible to electromagnetic interference than other similar machines from Philips and Sony. This shows up in CD as well as radio, but is only objectionable within three feet of a computer, ballasted light, or other radiation emitter. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars good bang for the buck
I bought this before travelling to Cancun to have some tunes for the beach and was really pleased with the performance. It arrived the day I was leaving and I very quickly and easily transferred about 100 songs right before leaving for the airport. It's pretty easy to use and quality seems pretty sturdy. The only thing I would change is instead of the little joystick control on the front, Perception should have made the silver ring around it the primary control module (a la iPod) it would make the handling so much easier. Also, you might want to invest in earbuds with volume control... it picks up where the player's volume may fall a bit short. Overall I am very pleased with this player, especially for the price!

1-0 out of 5 stars Broke down within 2 months
It often gets stuck and i have to use a pin to reset this thing.
Now I can not turn it on even though I charged it full.

The rebate system that this company employs never works. I bought two of this but never got the $30 rebate for any of them eventhough I mailed everything.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Value
This player, while it does have some of the shortcomings described in other reviews, is also one of the best values in mp3 players on the market right now. The user interface is easy, it has been very reliable for me and the sound is very good. I am thrilled with the purchase as is a friend of mine who also bought one. It has never given me any problems, skipped, or otherwise misbehaved.

1-0 out of 5 stars faulty piece delivered
I bought this MP3 player by seeing very good deal ( 1.5 GB Mp3 player for just $65).
However, the device never worked. First time itself, it got froze (after charging). I navigated the manufacturer's site for trouble shooting. With the great surprise, they have exactly mentioned the same problem that I was facing and its resolution too.
But, their resolution never worked. I contacted customer care, and after hearing my problem and effort to trouble shoot the device they just told me that send back device for replacement or for refund.
I was disappointed. I assume that there are faulty pieces launched in the market, and manufacturer/seller were knowing about it. That's why such a costly MP3 player came with such a great deal.
With my bad luck, I am the person who got the faulty piece.

I would strongly not recommend anyone to buy this product as there MAY be a chance to receive the faulty piece.

    2-0 out of 5 stars It's defintiely not a I-Pod
I bought this on Amazon for $65 (includes rebate) + free Philips multi-media speakers so at that price - it is a very good deal. But I would never pay the full sticker (approx $120) for this MP3 player. The thing only works well if you let it play songs continuously without interruption. It freezes if you fiddle with the controls too much and the only way to get it unstuck is to hit the reset button so carry something thin and sharp with you at all times. Also, the rubber cover on the USB port no longer covers once you use the port so now if just flaps around. This happened the 1st time I transferred songs. The Play/Pause button is on the side so if you hold the player like I do, you'll accidentally pause in mid-song very frequently. Also, the controls are not intuitive - it takes some getting use to.Final word - if you want a quality MP3 player, get something else that will set up back at a couple hundred $.If can live with the quirks AND you get a deal like I did, go ahead and give it a shot. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars WORST thing on the market!!!!!!!!!AWFUL!!!!!!!!!
We bought this product in April 8, 05 for my brother. It was cheap, had a lot of memory, why not. Well in less than a month, the little sad face with a bug appeared on the screen. Called into customer support, who gave NO support, said to fax in a copy of the confirmation order, then send the product back to get it replaced. First of all, i don't have a fax machine in my house, and i have to spend money to ship it back in again. RIDICULOUS! Either that, or go to costco and exchange it, and where i live there is no costco. The worst of all, i can't even return the junk.

All this process is waste of money, time consuming, and inconvenient. If you can spend 120 on this thing, you wont get your money's worth. It'll die on you in less than a month, then you have to deal with the poor customer support. The funny thing is they consider their support "award winning customer service professionals".

Take my advice. BUY AN IPOD!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Awful, Awful, Awful and...Awful.
The only thing that is more of a joke than this product is their customer support.

After three weeks I started to get sad face and bug icons(Now its all I get). You email their technical support with the problem and they send you their e-mail FAQ to you.

I called the technical support line, which by the way is 877-772-8367-You'll be needing it) and waited for at least 25 min. before hanging up (It also took a good 4-5 min to navigate thier automated phone system).

I paid $119 new, and I paid $119 too much.

    Buyer beware.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good price/performance but some weaknesses
With WMA recording and 64K encoding, you can get 80+ hours of recording. With MP3, you get a little less, it seems.(I mostly put MP3's on first and switched when I saw that the file size for WMA's tends to be smaller.I used mostly 64 K encoding, and at that rate, WMA sounds no worse than MP3 to me.YMMV.)

I found the controls and menus easy to master. It's not an IPod, of course. An IPod is certainly easier to get through the menus.I don't like the feel of IPod earbuds, but they do sound better than these, which are, to me, even less comfortable. The large headphones are more comfortable, but aren't particularly good. Then again, you get both in the basic package. Both distort badly at higher volumes. It also comes with an on-belt plastic holder, which it's hard to get into and out of, and which doesn't fit on any belt I own.

The basic package also includes a few songs and 50 free downloads from e-music.They have lots of stuff, but not much that I was looking for.Getting 50 was a great bonus, though, and since I paid just $100 in combination it made it an excellent deal.

It does take a while to get going on startup.Once going, though, I had no problems.I've never had to reset it.It charges either through USB cable or charger, the charger is much faster.I use the player for maybe 2 hours per day, and it needs to be recharged only after about 5 days.

A collateral benefit of this unit is it's a great pocketable backup over the USB port.I put an entire tax program on it and transferred it from one computer to another -- no problem.Later I found I could run the program off the ARC player. It's more than fast enough for backups.

For this much recording time, a strong battery and easy operating controls it's a good deal.I'd suggest planning to get rid of the earbuds or headphones and replace them with a better setup.(You can get Sennheiser 202's for about $15.Better sound, more comfortable, and they handle the volume better.)

If you have the money, an IPod is probably a wiser choice. For half as much cash, though, this is a price/performance leader.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good at first
I have owned Rave Mp Arc 2.5 for at least 2 months. It was a really great buy fo the first month, but then every thing went downhill. First it took FOREVER to turn on. Later the head phone jack wouldn't let you hear music unless pressure was applied. then after three weeks of Hell it finally gave me a little message with a
Unhappy face followed by a little bug pic. I've tried everything resetting, charging and then resetting again. My Advice If you want an MP3 player go all out don't settle for a cheap one like this.

    Peace an GOOd luck.

2-0 out of 5 stars Decent item for the price -- but not as good as iPod
I got this package upon its release because it had much more space and features than the iPod Shuffle (at the same price), and was significantly cheaper than the iPod mini.

    Good features:
+ Built-in radio tuner is well integrated and works
+ Voice recording is a neat option if you want it
+ Included earbuds and headphones are decent
+ Sound quality is below average but decent for a portable device.
+ Driverless, no need to use proprietary software like iTunes.

    Bad aspects:
    - Since it uses the computer directory rather than building its own index via proprietary software, be prepared for a lengthy indexing wait each time you change something on the drive.
    - User interface is "iPod-esque" but much clunkier and harder to use
    - Battery life is significanly less than the 10 hours in the specs
    - Doesn't charge through USB, requires a largish AC adapter

I could overlook the ergonomic and usability weaknesses in this item if the battery were just a bit better. As it is, I find myself wishing I had held out for the higher priced and higher quality iPod from Apple. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun toy with great sound but some annoying details
The RCA Lyra is my introduction to digital music, and overall it is a positive experience. The price is far more reasonable than many of the other 128 MB MP3 players out there, especially as it was one of my Amazon.comGold Box offers. However, before you buy, you should keep the following in mind:
    Pros
    1. Nice sound. Other reviews have complained about an annoying "hiss" between tracks, but I have not had that problem.
    2. Surprisingly nice radio reception, with several (10 I think) preset stations.
    3. Easy to handle. I have no difficulty in working the buttons/knob even when I am running.
    4. VERY lightweight - you don't notice it when you exercise
    5. Once you figure out the software (more later) it's pretty darn easy to generate and load music into the player.

    Cons.
    1. The belt clip is a joke. When I first saw it, I thought, oh, cool idea. Then I tried to use it. It does NOT want to stay clipped. It seems to work OK when I am running, but it will fall off if jostled. Don't try to listen to it while working with your hands (like I did while painting my basement) as anytime that you knock the headphone wires with your arms the player will "leap" off your waistband.
    2. The software instruction manual. HAHAHAHA. When you read the hardware manual you will be instructed to go to the software manual for specific into on Music Match and how to download the music to the device. THERE IS NO PRINTED MANUAL FOR THE SOFTWARE. It is part of the tutorial on the installation CD. Don't bother to try to print it out either - it won't.
    3. You have to use Music Match software. While the software is not difficult to use, it will annoy you to no end. It CONSTANTLY bugs you to upgrade. OK, already! And when you go thru the tutorial, the onscreen pics are for the UPGRADE, not what comes with the player.
    4. Slow download times.

In summary, the player has great sound, small size, is more flexible than some other MP3 players on the market, reasonably priced and is easy to use once you figure it out. The downside is that it might take you a bit to figure out how to use it IF you are new to digital music, and the belt clip could be improved. Overall, a fun toy.

1-0 out of 5 stars Volume Control Problem
I received the RCA Lyra rd1080 as a bday present from my wife and it worked fine for over a year. Last week, the volume control, which many other reviewers are complaining about, broke for no apparent reason. The volume now only works going up and as a result is stuck on 50. It seems like there is something broken as there is no "click" when pressing down. Up until now, I have been reasonably happy with the mp3 player and have even recommended it to others. I use it moderately, usually only hooked up to my car stereo through a cassette deck adapter. However, 1 year is not the lifespan I expect from a very expensive gift - my Sony Walkman (10 years old) is still kicking. I haven't tried calling the service desk, but since the unit is over a year old, I'm not expecting much. Landfills are full of electronic items that have become useless due to one poorly made part. It's disgusting. I'll update this if I get satisfactory results when contacting RCA.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't by a Lyra if you own a Mac!
It simply doesn't work with a Macintosh computer. Neither system X or system 9. The RCA support has been hard to reach and no help at all. I've bought an expensive product that I can't use at all. Karl Bradley in North Florida

The RCA Lyra is a Great piece of machinary. But there are some flaws. When listining to the radio sometime it can cross in with another sation. This is really anoying when your listing to a great song. But the Best part of the machine is The MP3. When you buy this you should also purchases a memeory card which can help you hold about 70 more song. You can also store songs on these card and save them like as if they were ds. You take one out then put another one in. The card also speed up the downloading process. The Downloading process is also very easy. It a simple 1...2..3. It took me 5 minutes to download a whole album. And you can name you songs. and the player will svae them inorder for you. It very simpile. It also has a programmming mode which allows you to save your radio stations. Once agian its a good piece of hardware excptfor the radio inteference and it lack of the ability to record son from the radio and vioces which are avialble in many of the newer models.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this Little Gizmo!
OK, so I'm not the most sophisticated electronics user and am easily impressed, but I have to say that this mp3 player has everything I was wanting and more! At 128 mb it holds more than enough music to keep you entertained for hours, and with the option of random play it should be quite awhile before you grow tired of your songs. Once you do grow tired of them, however, or if you are just looking for much more variety, the expansion slot allows you to easily expand your library without limit. Sure, this little guy may not be as sophisticated as some of the mini jukeboxes, but for the price it offers an incredible capacity with super sound. I would recommend this little guy to anyone, especially someone new to the technology! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible MP3 Player
The MuVo NX is the absolute best MP3 player I have ever had.

The ultra-small and ultra-light chassis makes it about as burdensome as a lighter. The battery case is also interchangeable giving you a choice between blue and black.

The sound quality is top-notch, not including the fact that a five bar equalizer gives you tons of options.

It is incredibly easy to load music onto it:
    1) Remove flash card from battery case
    2) Insert flash card into USB slot (it can be awkward without a front USB port)
3)Drag CD folders straight onto it (the MuVo NX is recognized as a external hard drive, open it through My Computer and go to your song folders, then drop onto the hard drive window)
    4)Re-insert into battery case
    5) Listen to music!

You can also use it as a voice recorder, or drag non-music folders onto it and transfer them to another computer as with a normal flash drive.

It comes with earbuds, but to truly enjoy it's great sound, I recommend getting some nice headphones.

All in all, this is an INCREDIBLE MP3 PLAYER.

P.S. I have only had it for about a week
P.P.S. DO NOT USE WINDOWS FORMATTING SOFTWARE (I haven't done it, however it says it in the manual in very large letters)

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Workout Companion!
Pros: Tiny player with great sound, features like shuffling and EQ, lightweight, easy to set up and copy music or files
Cons: Buttons may be too small for bigger fingers, one AAA battery life only about 5-6 hours, included ear buds are dinky

I already own a CD MP3 player, which is fine for most applications except when I'm at the gym. It's too big and it skips whenever you move. So I really wanted one of the new tiny players. My wonderful boyfriend got me this player for a birthday present.

It is super simple to set up; just install the Creative software, plug the player into an empty USB port, and you'll be copying files in no time! I can either drag and drop from my folders, or create a playlist in Windows Media Player and copy it automatically. It also holds any kind of file. I've used it to copy photos from my laptop to my home PC.

The sound is terrific. I like to turn up the volume fairly high, so that probably eats into the battery life. I was pleased to find out that I can randomly shuffle files, skip folders, or maneuver around my songs any way I like. I can also set the EQ to boost the sound even more.

I find the buttons easy to use, but someone with thicker fingers might not like it as much. Just rock the slider back and forth to move from song to song. The attractive and readable display shows you the time elapsed and any MP3 tags included in your file.

The included belt clip is very secure and slides into the included armband. I've only used the armband once, but I noticed a funny rubbery smell on my arm after working out. Could be because it's new!

I have not yet tried rechargeable batteries with the player, but a normal alkaline battery lasts about 5 or 6 hours. That's certainly long enough for any intense workout, or a 2 or 3-hour flight, but I don't want to have to keep changing batteries. Two colored battery "skins" are included, blue and gray. (You can also buy more skins via the Creative website for about $8-10 apiece.) You could either swap the player out to a different color and match your outfit, or keep a battery in each skin and use the alternate skin as a backup.

I also bought new sports-style headphones because I found the included earbuds to be totally useless.

Overall I love this little gadget! It's exactly what I needed in an attractive usable extra-light package. Thanks, sweetie!

5-0 out of 5 stars IF it was a woman I'd marry it.
Okay, So this is the 4th MP3 player I purchased in the past month. I tried the Dell Juitbox 20G. A Samsung and a IPOD. I needed to take off a week of work to stay home and figure out the Dell. On my Harley the thing kept freezing and finally just bit the dust after 2 weeks. The Samsung would NOT let me download from Musicmatch WMA files. The IPOD was miserable to figure out menus. So I purchased the Creative Labs Muvo NV 256MB as a last resort before returning back to my simple Tape cassette player on the bike. Plain and simple: This is SO SIMPLE, beautifully designed, AGAIN SIMPLE to use MP3 there is. It downloaded all songs both MP3 and WMA files no problem and no glitches. The menus on it are superb, easy to read, easy to navigate, no brainer toggleing. Its tiny, amazingly free of glitches, and wont freeze on my Harley. Plugs directly into the USB port with no wires and no problems with my windows XP like the others had. I actually hired a guy to help me figure out the other MP3 playes I purchased and even he was boggled. I didnt even call him for this. Whoever invented this thing is a genious and realized that I AM NOT. BUY this thing and dont think twice. Enjoy.

    4-0 out of 5 stars good mp3
this is a great little player, i would have given it 5 stars but the head phones the give u is crap!!!!. The head phones lasted me 3 week and the broke(one side stoped working).

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME portable player
As an owner of an Archos 30GB jukebox, which I love, I needed something that I could take a CDs worth of music with me while I work out.

I bought this player and it is THE best thing I have ever taken with me. I can take about 2-3 CDs worth of music, put it on my arm while I run, exercise, etc. and it works beautifully. All the buttons are easy to reach on my arm. The menu is EASY to use, it doesn't skip (flash memory), and haven't tested out the battery lifve, but using a AAA battery, it's no big deal to just put another one in.

This is the best portable I have used, I now carry it EVERYWHERE I go as it can be used as a portable drive as well. I love it. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Useless navigation software; Device itself is ok.
Don't spend more than $150 on this device because the navigation software sucks. You will get lost. It sometimes has trouble pinpointing your location on the map. And even when it does it often directs you in circles. And one of the biggest flaws is that it cannot pronounce street names. Trust me, this is VERY important. Other navigation softwares do.

The good thing is the device itself works well and it's NMEA compatible so it's not a total lost. So, after spending $350+ on Navman, I'm planning to shell out another $100 to $200 for another navigation software only package. I'm still evaluating which one to buy, but so far most of them are better than Navman. Even one of the least expensive one, Mapopolis, works better and it can pronounce street names.

1-0 out of 5 stars Navman Run by Baboons in Rundown Zoo!
Yes - it is true. A bunch of baboons decided to start a company from deep within the zoo walls. While smart enough to fool zoo keepers and officals, they were unsucessful at keeping customers happy.

Their products are designed by a staff of donkeys. The Jackasses failed to develop a devied that could hold a position for any length of time.

Don't send the baboonbs your money! Go to the zoo.... throw peanuts at them.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not very accurate routing
I am pretty disappointed with this product. I paid over $400 for a paperweight. The navigation/routing is not accurate. It takes you through tiny streets and dead ends. It routed me to a dead end while I was driving my 26 foot travel trailer. Try backing a 26 foot trailer for 100 feet. I wish that these companies would perfect their product before trying to rip us off!!! They refuse to refund their product.

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY FROM NAVMAN
Navman products are horrible. Their customer service department is in the toilet. Beware and stay away from Navman.

Also, they do not honor their own promises and products often arrive broken. You'll be asked to pay for the shipping of a new one and they will ask to recieve your broken one first before they send a new one - at your time and expense. You can fight this though.

4-0 out of 5 stars works well, but not as accurate as I thought
Works well, however it gets confused & reports that I am on the wrong street. Over all its is a good unit, as long as you look at the screen every once in awhile since the warnings can come a little late. The re-routing is good too. It could just be more accurate. ... Read more
