Good for movies, marginal for music.
I recently purchased these speakers from Amazon and have been generally satisfied with my purchase.The speakers are small and stylish but still manage to shake my home theater room with impressive bravado.I did quite a bit of research before updating my system because I'm a struggling student and money is tight.I decided to go with a total speaker package rather than add to my current set up of a Denon reciever pushing a set of Bose 301 bookshelves.

Most Home-theater-in-a-box systems tend to miss the mid-range frequencies that are so critical to good sound. Systems like the Bose acoustimass system and almost every other little satellite system I've heard just don't live up to the hype.While the Athenas provide a good bang for the buck, they still tend to miss the mid range frequencies.

This is most noticeable while listening to music. When compared with the Bose 301s the Athenas lack the rich, full sound that the Bose provide.This was a bit disapointing to me since music is my top priority. Having said that the four star rating that these speakers recieved was based on their performance in the movie realm. They are definitely intended to be used as a home theater speaker.

Overall these Athenas are impressive when watching a good flick, and they are certainly worth the price for that.

Exceeded all of my expectations
I auditioned the Micra 6 system against the Infinity TSS-750 set and had trouble deciding which way to go.Researching and reading numerous reviews of both systems turned things into a dead heat. The Micra 6 system went on sale and it was an offer that I couldn't refuse.I can't say enough good things about this speaker system, the highs and mids come through warm and the center speaker had less of a hollow sound when compared to the Infinity center speaker. The sub's range is tuned well to the satellites and gives an almost seemless feel to the overall range. Team this system with a quality receiver and you will not regret owning these guys.

Great bang for the buck
As S. Hayes says, this is a great speaker set.I bought an extra satellite (MS) and set it up as a 6.1 system using an Onkyo 502 receiver.Sound cannot be beaten at anywhere near the price.

Absolutely amazing - best small speaker system out there
I just replaced my old Polk speakers with this setup, and I couldn't be happier. They are very good looking, easy to mount and the tiny speakers have full, warm sound. The subwoofer is perfectly matched to the speakers and I'm enjoying music (and movies) in a whole new way. For the price of most small subwoofers, you get the subwoofer and 5 speakers. Excellent As Front Or Rear Speakers
A few years ago, I wrote a review of the JBL 412P's as my new front end speakers. I loved them then and I love them now. They replaced my teen-aged Bose 501's. The 412P's as front speakers have served me very well on several fronts. They are as beautiful as they are impressive esthetically. They produce clean sound that is satisfying in every range that I can perceive. The (2) 200W powered subwoofers have helped me settle the foundation of the house a few years early!

Unfortunately, just as I was ready to remove the 501's (which were now my rear speakers) and replace them with another JBL Studio series product, Harmon Kardon (which owns JBL) killed the Studio series line. Not good!

At first I was hesitatant to even consider the Northridge line for my rear speakers. I never liked the look of the Northridge line in comparison to Studio Series line. However, considering the price, quality and company reputation, my needs are very well met. The look is much closer to the Studio line now.

I'd be happy with the E90's as either front or read speakers. I would recommend them to anyone with the possible exception of high end audiophiles. If you like to listen to music, especially DVD-A or SACD, these are some beautiful and more than adequate rear speakers!

Better looks than the old ND310
I have been considering the JBL ND310IIs and was surprised to see that they have been replaced with the new E90s. I recently experienced them in a local electronics store and found them to have a fantastic presence. Unfortunately, I was unable to compare them directly with the old ND310s. If memory serves me correctly, their sound quality is similar or superior to the old ND310s. However, the price is about double the closeout prices on the old model. The cabinets are slimmer/deeper than the old 310s, and they are available in various wood finishes, a big plus. The new E90's frequency response is slightly better than the old ND310s, but it is close. I am not sure what to make of the differential, but am confident that JBL has improved this one over the stellar ND310s. Anxious to read a professional review. The cabinet design is much better looking. I love the tall, slim, deep look.

A Good Alternative to a Double Deck
I have owned many cassette decks. When my old one died, I looked for a replacement that was not a double deck. The Denon DRM-555 has been a very good deck. I mostly use it as a player, but I have made some recordings on it. Some of these recodings were of live music (via a mic mixer), and they sound fine. It is a good cassette deck for the price.

Avoid This Cassette Deck At All Costs!
Bought this unit 2 years ago and it's given me nothing but headaches! I'm on my second replacement from the dealer, and it too has problems. Both units make static, popping sounds mixed with the sound on any cassette being played-even blank tapes. I swapped cables and my entire stereo system-the noise continues. Don't like to be negative, but this Denon DRM-555 cassette deck is the worse piece of junk audio gear I have ever used! The CD section features a 3-disc changer that lets you listen to music without interruption.

The main unit (model UD-M50) boasts 30 watts per channel stereo power into 6-ohm speakers like those supplied. Dual stereo analog auxiliary inputs facilitate hookup of additional components, whether a DVD player, MP3 player, or Denon's matching DRR-M30 silver cassette deck. For additional convenience, a stereo analog output and optical digital-audio jack let you record radio broadcasts or CD sound to cassette or to a stand-alone CD or minidisc recorder.

The included Mission MS-50 bookshelf speakers use 4.3-inch woofers and 1-inch soft-dome tweeters. Their ported design grants a little deeper low-end response (down to a respectable 70 Hz), and they're magnetically shielded to allow distortion-free placement near your TV or computer monitor.

The UD-M50 includes the high-end Source Direct function, and the audio and power circuits in all components of the series feature highly-acclaimed Denon technology to ensure that the sound you hear is perfectly smooth and transparent.

Other features include 40 FM/AM station presets, SDB (Super Dynamic Bass) equalization, a 24-hour clock, a sleep timer (with daily and one-time event timers as well), and a .125-inch headphone jack for private listening. Preamplifier outputs (switchable, stereo/mono) let you use the system with heftier, stand-alone amplifiers if you wish.

The system comes with a remote control that also operates the basic functions of the optional CDR-M30 CD recorder and DRR-M30 cassette deck.

Denon DM50S
For the size, this unit has good sound quality, although I would have prefered slightly better speakers - I use Mission M731is in my study and Celestion MP1s for my computer, and those sound much better and are not that much bigger (M731is) or about the same size (MP1s).

The CD changer is pretty noisy, and the unit is rather long due to the add on power transformer at the back, which can make it difficult to position. It is attractive looking overall.

The two star rating is for poor reliability and warranty service - I have had to have this repaired twice under warranty in the first month of ownership, under very light use (this is my kitchen stereo).

If this is your main stereo, or you have the space (which I do not in my kitchen), I would recommend going with a decent basic receiver and standalone cd player (NAD for example) and Mission or similar small speakers. For a little more money, this would provide better sound and, I suspect, superior reliability. NAD also has a combination receiver/CD player unit which is wider than this, but is hopefully more reliable.

Good sound - simple to operate
I just got this item recently and love the alumnium chasis construction. Very solid and seemingly indestructible.
Although it is made in China (where all the good stuff comes from), the quality and fit is excellent. The supplied Mission speakers are a good match for the system and sound great. I also like the ability to listen to one CD while I change out the other two.

My only beef are:
1. It doesn't come with cassette (what the hell are those?) deck
2. The CD changer is rather loud.
