Olympus yet again raises the bar in the ultra-zoom digital camera arena with the 4-megapixel Camedia C-765. It's the smallest digital camera in the world featuring an optical 10x optical zoom (as of February 2004), measuring 4.11 x 2.36 x 2.7 inches (12-percent smaller than its predecessor, the C-750) and weighing only 9.9 ounces. With its 4-megapixel resolution, the C-765 captures 2288 x 1712 pixel images for impressive, photo-quality 11 x 14-inch print enlargements. It als features a full range of resolution modes: 2048 x 1536, 1600 x 1200, 1280 x 960, 1024 x 768, and 640 x 480 pixels. It records both in JPEG and TIFF format. The C-765's bright (f2.8-f3.7) optical system--normally only found in pro-level SLR cameras--comprises 11 elements arranged in 7 groups and includes two aspherical lenses to reduce distortion as well as an ED element to help reduce chromatic aberration.

The 10x optical zoom lens (6.3-63mm, or 38-380mm equivalent in 35mm photography) is combined with a 4x digital zoom for a seamless 40x total zoom. The new Super Zoom function--captured at 1600 x 1200 (2-megapixel) resolution--enables you to extend to an amazing 14x optical zoom.

Movie Mode
Use the C-765 to shoot video with sound using the QuickTime motion JPEG format. It records video at 15 frames per second (fps) and has two resolution modes: 320 x 240 and 160 x 120 pixels.

More Features
The C-765 is one of the first Olympus models to feature TruePic Turbo, a new image processor that sharpens image clarity, contrast, and color for life-like results. This feature also makes the camera 30% faster in processing images and is combined with a super-fast shutter release time.

The mode dial offers quick access to automatic settings, as well as four customizable "My Mode" settings.

In auto mode, the C-765 offers point-and-shoot simplicity for flawless picture taking. For those times when you want to tweak your creativity, the C-765 has aperture priority, shutter priority, or full manual settings. The 6 Scene modes (controlled by the dial on top of the camera) provide fully automatic exposure adjustments in a wide variety of settings: Portrait, Self Portrait, Landscape-Portrait, Sports, Night Scene and Landscape photography. The 4 customizable "My Mode" settings help save time by allowing you to assign frequently used settings to the mode dial for quick access.

The optimized electronic viewfinder (unlike many optical viewfinders) enables precise framing of the shot as well as displays all activated settings so you don't have to take your eyes off your subject.

Direct Printing
The C-765 is PictBridge compatible, which enables you to transfer pictures from your digital camera to a compatible printer (such as the Olympus P-10), without a PC or image-editing software. All PictBridge devices share three basic features: camera-to-printer connecting, single-image printing, and uniform error messages (in case something goes wrong).

Storage and Transfer
Images are stored on XD Picture Card memory cards. The card's small size, about the same as a postage stamp, helps to keep the camera size down. The included 16 MB card will store approximately 16 images at 2288 x 1712 pixels (at HQ, JPEG setting). Images can be downloaded to either a Mac or PC via ultra-fast USB 2.0 connectivity, which means the camera can be connected to any USB-based Windows 98 Rev2Me/2000/XP and Mac OS 8.6 or later computer without installing any software.

Love it!
I've had this camera for a couple of months and I love it. The pictures look great and it is very easy to use. Its big and boxy so it won't fit in a small purse or pocket, but its worth hanging a camera case around your shoulder if you like to take high quality outdoor pictures.

Great Camera
I replace my old Olympus 450 with this camera. I loved the old camera but it did not have all the features that I wanted. The new camera is great. It takes great pictures out of the box. If you spend the time to get to know all the features it takes even better pictures. I love being able to customize the settings. The zoom is the best feature of the camera. Allows you to get very close to your subject. Battery life is great but I would buy an extra battery because it does not give much warning when it is going.

Great first camera
Other than a cheap point and shoot camera, this is the first real camera that I have owned. I decided to go with a digital camera that way I would practice my photography skills without wasting a whole lot of money on film. Overall, I have been very impressed with this camera. I recently got back from a trip to London and everyone was very impressed with the pictures that I got. For the beginner, you can set the camera on Auto Mode on and get great shots. For the more advanced photographer, the camera offers enough creative control over things such as aperature and shutter speed. I experimented with the camera in the Sport Mode and was able to freeze an acrobat in the middle of a flip. This camera is not for a professional, but for the beginner to an intermediately advanced photographer, it makes a great camera. My only real complaint with the camera is shooting pictures at night or extremely low light situations is somewhat difficult. I recommend using a tripod or some other way to stabilize it for best results. It is possible that there is something that I haven't figured out yet since I feel like I am still learning a lot about this camera. Other than this though, I highly recommend this camera to anyone looking for a solid, reliable camera that takes excellent photos.

Great Camera
I just got this camera. I love it. It takes excellent pictures and is easy to use.

A great upgrade for digital camera users.
I just purchased this camera and love it. Prior to getting this one, I had been using my Olympus Camedia 3030. This one has several things that really make it better than the old one:

First and foremost, it has the 10x optical zoom. I often found with the C-3030 that I couldn't get close enough in on people and animals if they were more than about 20 feet away. This one solves that problem.

Second, the lag time from pressing the button to the shutter releasing is significantly reduced in this camera. I can actually capture my son before he has left the picture frame. It still isn't as fast as an SLR, but it is light years ahead of where it used to be.

Third, I have noticed significantly fewer red eye issues with this camera. This is a big deal for me since everyone in my family is fair skinned with blue eyes.

Last, the battery is a Li rechargeable. It only takes about two hours to get a full charge. Picture quality is exceptional. I haven't had any problems with the zoom lens (but I do try to steady the camera on a fence or something if the zoom is fully extended).

All in all, I think this is a great camera. Admittedly, I don't use all the bell and whistles -- mostly the automatic settings. Oh, and one other thing I like -- it is easier to control the flash with this one since you have to open it to use it.

A Few Cons: It may be overpriced compared to the competition. The battery and charger come with the camera, but a spare battery costs approx. $50.00 (and you can't use AA's in a pinch). You'll definitely need to buy a 256MB card right away. The one that comes with the camera only holds about 16 pictures. Great value - excellent sound
I am very happy with my Jukebox Zen Xtra 30 GB Player. I converted all my mp3 files to wma, keep my backup files from my laptop and desktop and still have loads of room. The sound quality is excellent even when listening to 64kbps wma files. If you are looking for an excellent machine and don't need the portability of an ipod - buy this unit.

Good, but not perfect
I have a Nomad for about 8 months now. On the whole, I am glad I bought it, but it has its pros and cons.
Pros:
1)More memory for the money, compared to any other brand that I saw.
2)Easy to add music.
3)Controls can be operated with gloves on (very important, as I walk for fitness, all year.)
4)Unlike the Ipod, battery can be replaced by the consumer.
5)Backlit screen is easy to read.
6)Good battery life.
Cons:
1)Included case is poorly designed- no viewing window and a belt clip that falls off your belt. (I bought a small camera case, to use instead.)
2)Included ear buds were not comfortable for me (a problem with most jukeboxes)
3)A bit bigger that the Ipod.

In short, it's a good product but could be impproved upon.

None Better
Creative Jukebox Zen players are awesome. Creative Labs are constantly improving their players with software updates on their website, if you happen to have a glitch. I have not had any problems with mine , but go to their website about once every few months(as I own several Creative Labs Products) just to see if there are any driver updates(a good idea for any software driven device). You already have a usb cable to connect you to your computer, so upgrading the drivers is easy.

Perfectly adequate
All the Zen Nomads are perfectly fine. I purchased mine because I didn't want ot pay the Ipod premium.

The nomad works, has great sound, but has a semi clunky interface. The big bug is: that it accidently turns itself on. So you're on trip and you open your nomad only to find the battery is almost dead. Kind of annoying.

The best birthday present I've ever gotten!
When I asked my husband to get me a small MP3 player for my birthday so I could listen to music while doing cleaning and walking, I had no idea he'd buy me such an expensive and wonderful model. I never owned an MP3 player before, so I was a bit intimidated to say the least. The little bitty earphones they come with just don't work for me, so I use Sony headphones with an extra long cord. The "holder" for it isn't the best either, but at least it protects the screen from being scratched or damaged. The one major thing I didn't like about this was the non-existence of a paper manual. I'd much rather have a paper manual to look at while I'm working with something than to have to go back and forth on computer screens. I suppose you could print the pages you need....

So... if you buy another set of headphones, think the holder is OK, and don't mind online manuals.. this is a great product. ... Read more

Impressed
If you are looking for an excellent palm-pilot with a GPS add-on, this is probably not for you. It is not designed to be an outstanding palm. If you are looking for a GPS based nagivational aide with some palm capabilities, then this is excellent.

The time to acquire satelites varies quite dramatically, but it does. I have even managed to track my location whiles flying. The location and airspeed were dead on, but the elevation of 50 ft seemed to be a bit low, considering that we were at 29,000 ft.

Quick to re-calculate if you get off route. It has been accurate, with 1 exception. In Boulder Colorade (despite the basemap and detailed map being loaded, it couldn't find all the streets, and had me displayed in the middle of a lake once.

All in all I am very satisfied with this product.

Great navigation PDA, but stopped working in first month...
As a GPS junkie, I appreciate just how slick this navigation PDA is. The detailed City Select mapsets that come with the PDA are very detailed, and give you voice guided turn-by-turn directions anywhere you want to go. Add a SD memory card and you have more than enough memory to hold all the maps you need plus MP3's and other Palm applications as well. The only drawback, and it's a biggie, is that after 3 weeks my IQUE 3600 has completely stopped working. Garmin has asked me to mail it back to them (at my expense) to be repaired (at their expense). Maybe it's just a bit of bad luck with my particular unit. If navigation was all this unit did it would be worth the money (it costs 1/3 of similar non-portable in dash vehicle nav systems with similar capabilities), but it is also a great PDA and MP3 player as well. If it continues working after Garmin fixes it, I wouldn't hesitate to reccommend it to anyone. ... Read more

Garmin's eTrex Vista GPS receiver is smaller than its popular eMaps, but far more powerful. The Vista offers more memory, more features, and more convenience than any other GPS hardware in this price range.

Don't be fooled by the product's small screen. Although smaller than the display used in products like the eMap, it has a higher resolution, letting it show more information more crisply. Small text can be difficult to read from a distance, but there are "big number" options available to make important data like your speed easy to read.

It's this configurability that makes the eTrex Vista so special.

You can easily set it up to suit your needs, regardless of the situation. Menu choices are highlighted and confirmed with a small joystick near the top of the unit, providing an elegant interface for navigating a formidable amount of options. Our only complaint is that the joystick used to access all the product's features is offset to the left, making it nearly impossible to control using only your right hand. When the joystick is held in your left hand, however, every control is within easy reach of your left thumb, freeing your right hand to hold a flashlight, walking stick, lantern, or anything else.

This GPS unit's diminutive size and weight, not to mention its rugged design, make it an ideal hiking companion. It's waterproof in up to 3 feet of water for 30 minutes and is generously coated with shock-absorbing rubber. The ability to store waypoints, points of interest, routes, and other information means you can blaze your own trail and always find your way back to camp.

Best of all, 24 MB of internal memory makes it possible to store an enormous amount of data from Garmin's optional MapSource CDs, turning the eTrex Vista into an interactive road atlas. The memory isn't expandable, but 24 MB is enough to store street-level data for entire states in some cases.

A serial cable is included for transferring the maps from your PC to the GPS unit, but it's terribly slow. A USB connector, sold separately, transfers data in a fraction of the time.

The eTrex Vista was very accurate in testing, especially in a car on the open road. Accuracy diminished somewhat when the device was used in heavy tree cover or a dense urban area, but not enough that you're ever going to get lost or miss an exit. Used side-by-side with an eMap, the eTrex Vista kept up in update speed while displaying even more information on the moving map than the eMap did, cementing its position as perhaps the best all-around handheld GPS unit money can buy. --T. Better Than I Thought
I'd like to start this review by saying that I'm a Registered Maine Hunting Guide with years of expirience navigating in the back country and plenty of expirience using different brands of GPSs. That said, I nearly didn't buy this GPS after reading some of the reviews for it, I'm glad I did.
I recently returned from a 2 week hunting excursion in Northern Maine in unfamiliar territory. The Vista greatly aided me in knowing exactly where I was at all times. I purchased the Map Source Topo program for it and loaded my maps. I had room for all of Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire in it. While all the newer logging roads weren't on the map, a lot of them were.
The electronic compass is a neat feature and saves you from getting out your regular compass when orienting yourself, but I do like a regular compass better.
As I was all ready familiar with Garmin GPSs, this GPS was very easy for me to use. To many convienient features to list. This GPS did everything I wanted it to and then some. Battery life was exceptable and the only time I had any problem with reception was during a heavy snow storm while in fairly heavy tree cover.
A friend of mine has the Garmin Legend GPS and while it is less money he was only able to load about half of the state on it. So for more money and features the Vista is the way to go.
The small "shirt pocket" size, the topo map and all the other great features make this a "Must Have" for any back country traveler.
If you're looking for a GPS to use in your vehicle, pick a different model, the small size of this unit that makes it great for hand held use makes it to small to use effectively in your vehicle.
All in all this GPS is great in my opinion, it is absolutely perfect for me and my uses. Great quality, easy to use, convienient features, small size, fast updates. Have I left any thing out? If you're a hunter, hiker or back country traveler this is the GPS for you.

Not very useful.
I ordered this GPS unit for a trip out west to several National Parks. I also ordered the very expensive National Parks West maps from Garmin. I downloaded the maps for several of the parks I was to visit, so that I would get detailed trail maps once I got there. Once at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, I went to use my eTrex Vista with the "detailed" map and all I got was a rough location of the city I was near. Clearly the detailed map did not download properly, or when I entered map info for one park it overwrote the information I downloaded for other parks. The only park listed was the last park I downloaded and I never ended up going to that park, so my purchase was a complete waste of money. If you are completely incapable of reading a map, perhaps this unit can be of use to you driving down the road, of course it barely receives a signal from within a car, you have to get out and hold the unit if there are any trees or buildings around. The screen is also too small and not in color, and the batteries don't last long enough. I have stock in Garmin, so I suppose I should not bad mouth them too much, but if I could return this unit to Amazon, I would.

GARMIN HAS GOOD RECEPTION
I own 3 GPS receivers and I will say Garmin did an excellent job. The receiver is much more sensitive to satellite signals than my other GPSs. Just don't expect too much from this small unit with tiny screen and very slow CPU for screen refresh. It will drive you nuts to use it for street navigation. It is suitable for back trailing in the mountains. For street navigate, I strongly suggest that you hook this unit up with a laptop but make sure that GPS is set to NMEA and the software GPS setting is also correct. Conclusion, don't street navigate with this unit alone and don't buy a no brand GPS under $90 because you will not be happy with the reception.

A poor offering by Garmin
This expensive (for gps units) includes the PC Cable but DOES NOT include the ability to comunicate with your PC. After waiting 17 minutes for customer service I was told that I had to purchase a $29 software to be able to download my waypoints to my computer. I don't need extra maps - I only want to download my waypoints.

In the waypoint view - over half of the display is the flag symbol and the co-ordinates are so small as to be practically useless in the field.

This is my fifth Garmin product and in the past have been happy with the performance. I give this a 1 as it is little better than a $99 unit.

Great GPS Unit And A Great Price!
Another reviewer here said it best: don't let the misleading negative reviews of this product prevent you from taking a good look at the Garmin eTrex Vista. (Honestly, what are some of these people wanting to do with a GPS device? Fix a waypoint on a specific part of a cow patty in a farmer's field somewhere?)

This is the first GPS handheld I've purchased after carefully reviewing other models from other brands at a local store with true "hands on" comparisons. I thought the Garmin products were by far the most intuitive and user-friendly of the GPS handhelds I played with. Great features and an excellent value for the money. (...)

Looking at the less expensive eTrex Legend and the Vista and wondering which to buy? Well, the Legend is great but it lacks the Vista's electromagnetic
compass or air-pressure altitude indicator if that is important to you. It also has much less memory capacity (8MB) for storing detailed Mapsource maps.

I have loaded my Vista with topo maps from Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont and it took up all 24MB of memory (of course, it really is a lot of detail we're talking about here). I would think that the memory capacity of the Legend could be a significant limitation if you are looking at getting into extra topo or metro guide maps. If you have no use for extra maps or an electromagnetic
compass and altimeter, then the Legend might be the way to go.

Personally, I think the Vista represents a better overall value for the dollar.

Excellent
Well, despite the price (it's 499 dollars in my country) this is an excellent camera. If you are a newbie like me with digital cameras, you're starting with a monster.
This baby can take beautiful pictures, and offers options never before seen in P series. Manual control is superb.

It's my first Digital camera, and I must say, "It's perfect & worth every penny!"

With its 5.1 MP Sony lens, the photo quality is amazing! Crisp, Sharp, Colorful and very detailed.

I have to say, it works better than some CANON models! I took a photo of a same stationary subject with both cameras. I found out that the SONY's output was better than the CANON's. So I went for Sony.

The camera has various features to enjoy including Video recording and OPTICAL/DIGITAL Zoom.

Best camera I ever bought!
I just bought this camera and I have had the best time using it. It takes wonderful crisp pictures and is easy and fun to use. It works great in all conditions. This camera was a great buy at 5 megapixels at a great price...better than other cameras that were more expensive at 4 megapixels with features that an everyday user would not need.

Fabulous!
This was the first digital camera I purchased, and I must say that I got quite lucky.
The resolution is brilliant at 5.1 MP. You can stretch and crop all you want without distortion, and it doesn't have that blurry look quintessential of digial cameras.
The price is an excellent bargain, especially since here it is offered for $350 (probably subject to change) as opposed to the list $450.
It is very user friendly, and has many functions to produce the optimum photo for your situation/context. The amount of flash is automatically decided by the camera, making one's life easier, although you do have the power to override flashes.
I recommend that you pruchase the two-sided, 128 MB each memory stick by sony to go along.
My only negative comment would be that the batteries are not the super-power ones found in most other cameras. I don't know much about their chemical composition or any of that, but I do maintain that the batteries have a tendency to run out rather fast. However, they are rechargeable and the camera comes with an included recharger you can plug in to an electrical outlet.
I really suggest you buy this camera. I am certainly glad I did.

Great price-point for a 5mp with excellent quality
As a user of both Canon and Sony Digital cameras in the past, I wanted something that used rechargeable AA's (flexible for travel) with excellent picture quality (barely noticeable picture quality from the Carl Zeiss lenses) and portability (slightly larger than the P100). Also wanted something that good samaritan photographers could use easily and hold adeptly. (this was a problem with my tiny Sony U30) I have had numerous friends take pictures for me with this picture and the pics have been rock solid with this camera.

The price point is great. Uses Memory sticks which are coming down in price. Also, the power up time is fast, and the shutter lag is very small. Flash works great in dark situations.

Drawbacks of the camera is that since it's using NIMH AA's there is less battery life than a Li Ion batt. The big bonus is that NiMH batteries are so prevalent. Also works well with alkaline batteries in a pinch (I tried it out.) There is also the styling - a tad dated compared with the snazzy new T1's, SD10's, and U40's of the world.

In combination with my current U30, the P93 synergistically works as a high-photo quality camera when I don't absolutely have to have the micro camera on me. ... Read more

Laser printing for the rest of us.
Let's face it. Many of us are tired of using inkjet printers for text jobs. Mainly, it's the cost of ink. Inkjet cartridges are expensive and you don't get many pages to the pop. Plus, if you've been unlucky enough to use an Epson, the clogged printheads and general unreliability of the output are simply unacceptable. (Three Epsons later, I'm using an HP inkjet, a PSC 1350 all-in-one, and am thrilled with it.)

If you do a lot of text printing, there really isn't an alternative to a good laser printer--and now you have one. The print-out is superlative; the speed is terrific--I'm getting a about a 3-seconds a page; the noise-level is low; no laser printer smell, either; and--get this--you get about 2,000 pages per ink cartridge (the cartridges are around $60, but for this kind of output, well worth it).

The pages don't get curled, despite the small size--although they are surprisingly hot when they come out of the printer. "Hot off the presses" gets a whole new meaning. But, they cool down quickly!

I use mine with a PowerMac, and the driver works flawlessly. I even have it networked on my home Airport network, and it works like a charm.

HP proves itself again as the leader in home printers.

Terrific little printer
This is a pretty sweet little printer. It's light, with a relatively small footprint, USB connectivity and fast.

Installation was a snap on WinXP. Pop the CD in, install the drivers, plug the printer into a free USB port and let Windows do it's magic. First page out in 10 seconds, 15 ppm, manual and auto feeders and 1200 dpi. It's only a simple B/W printer (2 bit greyscale), so the print quality isn't as great as something like a 4500. But for home use, print quality looks just fine. And 15 ppm sure beats the heck out of the 2 or 3 our old BJC used to do.

Printer configuration and diagnostics are done through a web interface and web server running on your computer. It's something that can be turned off though, if you're leary of an unknown webserver running on your system.

Paper tray doesn't hold quite as much paper as I'd like, but unless you're doing a lot of printing or printing really big documents (in which case you should be using a beefier printer anyway), it shouldn't be too much of an inconvenience.

Takes thin cardstock paper just fine (30-35# or so), but I'm not sure how much heavier it will go.

Definitely a good deal if you're tired of that pokey slow inkjet. If you do heavy duty printing, you'll probably want to go with something a little more robust though.

Great Printer, Unbeatable Price!
I got this printer on sale for about $150 delivered to replace an aging HP 5L. The print quality is excellent and significanly better than the old 5L. This printer is also exceptionally compact and fits nicely on the shelf of my computer desk. Overall, the printer is extremely fast and appears to print at the stated rate. I printed a 35 page document and had no problems with the printer slowing down. Setup is a breeze and took lest than 5 minutes. Feeding envelopes or indvidual sheets is simple as well; there's a small icon stamped on the plastic paper tray to guide your way. Alas the only downside is you'll have to buy a USB cable since one isn't included -- this is probably a non-issue since most free USB cables are usually too short. Bottom line, this printer works great for home and small office use. This is a wonderful monochorme printer for a college or high school student as well. HP quality at a rock bottom price, I don't see how you can go wrong. I highly recommend this printer.

OK Little Printer
I needed a cheap printer quick and this one happened to fill the bill. The toner catridges are readily available, the print quality is all right and set up on xp was pretty much what would be expected from any printer. It even networked without a fuss.

Conclusion: If you need a cheap printer for not too demanding jobs this is one.

Fast but poor quality
I've just bought this printer to replace my old LaserWriter 4/600, which
was a cheap and compact laser printer (when Apple had them). I'm moved
from Mac to XP and connecting it to a PC is impossible and I had to buy
another printer. LaserJets are well known so I decided to buy one which
promises a good resolution --not a real 1200 x 1200 but at least a
promising 600 x 600 x 2.

However, when I printed the first page I was very disappointed because this
resolution is in fact much worse than my 600 x 600 LaserWriter and not much
better than a good ink jet printer. Why? With the 4/600 letter contours
looked rounded and crisp, while with the 1012 are jagged and fuzzy. No ink
dots outside letters in the 4/600, but lots of them in the 1012 which makes
a sort of halo around the letters (there is a noticeable shadow in vertical
strokes). Letter strokes lose their proportions below 10 pt and the
horizontal one in "e" (Times) is almost missing. There are in addition

distorted letters, some of them with bumps and even wrongly rendered (like
a bold omega). The result is ugly and a lot below one could expect from a
good laser printer.

Canon Gl2 Problems I Had!!
Pros: Excellent image quality and color fidelity; 20X optical zoom; two-channel audio control; 1.7-megapixel still image capture; lightweight.

Cons: Too many controls per button; onboard microphone is omnidirectional; mediocre battery life with included cell.

Summary: An ok camera, just not what I expected. I own a Sony VX2000 and PD-150 we use in video production of homes for sale. We bought the GL2 because of the fact it was about a half pound lighter and a little smaller than the Sony cameras. The first problem is when you attache the small 3 watt Canon light, the drain on the battery is too great and shuts down the camer before the battery is one half way drained. Even with the biggest battery that Canon makes the battery life is short with their fill light. The second problem was when the telephoto zoom button failed after 70 minutes of use, making the auto zoom function useless. Now I must send the camera back to Canon only after 20 days of use. The mail order place would only take it back within 15 days. The third problem is the low light noise is a little worse on the camera when compared to the Sony VX2000 or Sony PD-150. It is not a big difference, but it is noticeable. I never had a reason to mail in a Sony camera for repairs, even after years of use. It's a dissapointment to have a new camera fail in so many ways

Canon GL2 / XM2 bad camera - WARNING!!
Great camera when I first got it, I felt like I had got something really good - so I should have, it cost me a whole load of cash.

Just after the warranty had expired, I find out the hard way that the whole line of Canon camcorders have a serious problem with the tape transport system causing the warning message "REMOVE THE CASSETTE" appearing in big red letters on the LCD. Camera will not function until expensive repairs have been carried out.(...)

Great Camera
This is a great camera with a lot of good settings available to you. I have owned a GL2 for about 6 months and just bought by second one. I have had no mechanical problems with it at all. The features that I especially like on it are: three settings of white balance (preset indoor, preset outdoor, and one you can set) this is a must if you want to shoot indoors and still have your color look right, stereo mic settings (an adjustment for both the right and left side), and you can use it as manually as you want (you can have it in total automatic mode or be able to set your shutter speed, iris, gain, focus, etc.). I use Premiere Pro and have had no problems capturing video to my PC. I did buy a bigger battery for my camera. I got the 945 on eBay for about $90. Also, make sure you get a UV haze filter for your lens. It will protect your lens from scratches and from harmful UV rays. I looked at getting an XL1s for my second camera but the main thing better in the XL1 is the ability to change your lens. Since I don't own any others right now it wasn't worth the extra money. The only thing I haven't been able to shoot is a blacklight picture. I don't think the white balance could adjust far enough. But most people won't ever run into this problem.

Best camera ever, but not for beginners
Not for the faint of heart... if you want to shoot a little league game, bbq, or basically don't have much experience with cameras this isnt the one for you. However if you have outgrown other DV cameras then by all means go ahead because it really is the greatest camera ever. I am a film student and have been using the GL2 for the past 2 years. The incredible image quality has saved many an ill fated piece. Its versatility makes it a must have for anyone who wants to shoot in a variety of situations. Bottom line, if your experienced and know exactly what you need, you can't go wrong with this camera, but if you're new too this and are unsure of the features you need, go with something cheaper.

Good but not great camcorder-
The DCRDVD201 camcorder is a pleasure to use because it is not difficult to operate, has many great features, and probably its best feature- it is very small and lightweight.
It does not take hours of user manual reading and fidgeting around with the camera to begin using it, and ocassionally referring to the manual to use its more complicated features is all you need to do.
The steady shot is always on and makes recording and viewing easy. The super night shot works well also, but unless your nocturnal, it doesn't get used too much.

The image mixer software that comes with the camera is not as self explanatory as the camera is, but with a little extra effort and time, the program is versatile and capable of handling all your editing needs.
The hype over the DVD camcorders is over done. Unless you buy and use the expensive little DVD-+R's to record onto, and have nothing to edit, there is little benefit to recording directly to a DVD. But if you use the DVD-RW's so you can edit, erase, and re-record, you are going through the motions of putting the video on your computer anyway; which you can do with miniDV or another recording format. In short, the DVD's that you record to is just temporary storage, if you, like most people will edit your recording before putting the video on a final DVD-+R.
I say all that to say- suprisingly, the picture quality is argueably not as good as miniDV and if you are going to have to transfer your recorded material to a computer to edit and finalize anyway- you may want to save yourself the extra $500 and buy a camcorder that doesn't record onto DVD-+R's.

Nice camera with lots of features.
Have had this camera for a few weeks now, and I must say the image quality is impressive. We originally had a DCR-DVD200 on backorder since Christmas time, and recently found out that it was discontinued by Sony (as well as the DVD100 & 300), making way for the new DVD101 & 201. Glad I waited, for these new models are over 25% smaller than their predecessors, and hopefully Sony has addressed some of the earlier complaints customers had about the previous models, improving on the features/qualities.

Besides the sharp image quality, the stereo sound is superb (in my opinion), however the spinning noise of the disc in quiet environments can be noticable in your recordings. The "Pixela" software that comes included seems to be a little too basic, and found using the free Windows Movie Maker is much better, however you can only make VCDs with WMM. I have tried some trial versions of DVD editing software (Ulead's Videostudio and Movie Factory), but so far they don't seem to support this camera, or at least the 'Dolby Digital' audio, rendering the captured videos silent. Anyone recommend a certain program to use that works with this? Those seem to be my only complaints.

All in all, I'm quite happy with this camera, and recommend it for the ease of use and image quality.

Cheaper and More Versatile than iPod.
So you want to buy an MP3 player? Well if you don't have enough cash for an iPod and/or a general mistrust of Apple products, this player is for you. The Nomad has some definite advantages over the iPod that far outweigh its drawbacks.

First, it has a massive amount of storage at roughly half the cost of the comparable iPod. The 40GB version I have is capable of holding 4000 minutes of music. Secondly, the Nomad can hold both music and Data files, so if you need to transport a few documents between home and work, this player can also do that job for you. Thirdly, music can be copied off of the Nomad as well as loaded to. The iPod only allows the user to load music onto the device (Apple's attempt to prevent indiscriminant copying). With the Nomad, you can effectively use your player as a backup for your music. Finally, the computer interface is very simple and familiar to the Windows user. The Nomad shows up like a hard drive in Windows Explorer, and you simply drag and drop music into the player.

The drawbacks of this device are few, but notable. First, the interface is nowhere near as nice as an iPod. They use a series of buttons and a clumsy wheel. It's not flashy and neat like the iPod, but I don't want to pay double just for a neat interface. If you simply must have that touchy-feely interface, Creative Labs is coming out with a Nomad Zen touch fairly soon. Secondly, the EAX sound features are utterly worthless. Unless you want to hear what your music will sound like in a church or a stadium, you wont use this feature. Finally, the organization of songs on the player could use a little tweaking. Everything is sorted by the ID tag of the MP3 file. iPod does the same thing, but I would expect something a little better from Creative labs, like being able to use folders to organize music.

So to recap:

PROS:
-Huge storage capacity at half the cost of an iPod
-Holds both data and music
-Can copy files to and from device (unlike iPod which is unidirectional)
-Simple explorer interface for moving music to/from device

CONS:
-Unimaginative control interface (will be solved when Nomad Zen Touch comes out)
-EAX audio features are useless
-File organization leaves a bit to be desired.

It's a nice paperweight...
I'll keep this short and sweet. I've had the Zen Xtra 40GB for about a month. I'm returning it tomorrow (hopefully) to get an iPod.

Pros:
- Plenty of space
- 1/2 the cost of a 40GB iPod

Cons:
- User interface is difficult to use; jog dial isn't very easy to manipulate
- Poorly designed software (buggy and doesn't work 50% of the time)
- EAX sound field manipulation is garbage - don't use it
- Can't use it as an external hard drive w/o extra drivers
- Bigger than shirt pocket
- Sync capability is practically useless and error-prone (200 of my files wouldn't sync thru Creative's driver)

The only redeeming thing about the Zen is a third-party shareware product called Notmad Explorer which is great - but unfortunately it uses the Creative driver and the Zen itself, so it's not much better.

Great product, great value
I had been putting off getting a digital music player in the hopes that prices would drop. I finally decided to get the Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 40GB, which was decidedly cheaper than comparable products from Apple, HP and iRiver.

Boy, this thing is the best! I used to have to lug around all my CDs, but this thing stores my entire music library (THOUSANDS of CDs!). Navigation is easy; you can search by artist, album or genre, as well as create your own playlists. It has something called EAX which is supposed to be some sort of advanced sound technology, but I don't see much value in it. Supports both USB 1.1 and 2.0; I have 1.1 and it took about 48 hours to put about 8,000 songs on it from my computer. If you listen to it about 4 hours per day, you'll need to recharge the batteries about once every 5 days (do the math if you listen more or less than that).

In summary, I LOVE this thing! It has all the functionality that I need, and it is BY FAR the best value. There's no other product that can store 40GB of music for less than $300. P.S. I listen to it while programming at work, and I've found that jazz boosts my lines of code per hour and cuts down on the number of bugs! ;-)

This is the answer to a few of my problems with music. As a DJ I have been carrying 2500 CDs to gigs, and it is pretty heavy to say the least, as well as taking up lots of space. This little drive has replaced a few cases easy, I have put in over 120 CD, and still have room to go. I am loading up with entire LP of deep cuts, as well as a few greatest hits type releases. A few more of these and I won't need a roady! The wheel button is pretty funky, but everything else is working fine.

Great product!
After using my Nomad Xtra for a week I can say that is all I wanted and more.
The sound is amazing, the unit's capacity is endless, it CANNOT be any easier to use. No manual is needed.
The Nomad Explorer is very efficient, you can drag files from your computer to the Nomad and viceversa, no copyright sillyness on this unit like the Ipod. Using my USB 1.0 it was fast enough.
The battery last a good ten hours. If you wanna plug it into your car's stereo, I don't recommend those radio FM transmitters cause there is always some interferince.
You can't go wrong with this thing, It cost a lot less that the Ipod but it's a LOT better. The only thing that lacks is in size, the Ipod is smaller but the Nomad is smal enough to fit my pocket.
This unit is so efficient that I took my 10GB of MP3 out of my PC into the Nomad and then erased all the MP3 from my computer, if I wanna burn a CD I know that I can transfer the files back to my PC with NO HASSLE. Try that with the IPOD. ... Read more

Best $$ ever spent-just bought 2nd
I wouldn't be able to praise this toy enough. We gave it to our oldest daughter last Christmas when she was 3 1/2. We were concerned because of the price but compared to a GameBoy we prefered the educational aspect. We have never regreted the purchase. She loves playing with it and has even mastered basic math skills well ahead of time. We had a problem with the screen not responding after about 6 months but it only took a quick email to Leap Frog and they replaced it with our only expense being a few dollars to ship it to them. They have excellent Customer Service. We would have even invested the money to buy a new unit if they hadn't replaced it. <br /> <br /> We have just purchased a unit for our 19 month old daughter because she always wants to share big sister's. I know the age is 4-10 but our little one just loves the characters and even though she doesn't totally understand what to do, she still loves playing. It has helped her to master control of the stylus and she is now much better at coloring too. We have a few extra cartridges and plan on expanding for Christmas. <br /> <br /> We haven't had a problem with battery consumption. This toy definitely hasn't eaten batteries nearly as quickly as others and my older daughter plays with it almost every day. She would play with it more if I would allow it. But we still plan on buying the recharging system too.<br /> <br /> I highly recommend the investment in the carrying case also.<br /> <br /> You just can't go wrong with this toy.

my grandson
I purchased the LeapFrog Leapster for my grandson as a Christmas gift when he was 2 years old. His mom gave it to him when we was 21/2, he absolutely loves it and has learned so much. I like the durability, educational theme and the add ons, it just keeps getting better and better.

My son was given this on his 4th b-day, he absolutely loves it and so do I! It has taught him alot and the only reason I rated a 4 and not a 5 is because of the battery situation!! Ouch!

Battery Eater!
My son got this toy for his 4th birtday. He truly loves it, but it's a battery eater! I cannot believe how quickly this toy drains 4 AA batteries. Thank goodness they are coming out with a recharging unit soon or we'd go broke!
