5-0 out of 5 stars works with my mac
I've been very happy with the performance of this product. I attached it to my mac os x box, and apple's bluetooth software managed the connection to my mobile phone perfectly fine. Note that this item (GBU302) comes with two bluetooth adapters. I gave the other to a friend who has a windows machine. She is happy the product as well; the software that comes with the product enabled her PDA to shared the high speed internet connection with the windows pc that the adapter is plugged in to.

The range of the class one device hasn't been tested - my mobile phone is a class three bluetooth device with a smaller range (25ft), so I don't have another class one device to test the (300ft) range.

If you just want one, see the GBU301 product (B00006L4R6). ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Hit the road without feeling weighed down with the 6.2-pound Acer TravelMate 290 notebook PC. The Travelmate 290 features Intel Centrino mobile technology to give you the 54g wireless connectivity and extended battery life you need to work just about anywhere as well as a 1.4 GHz Intel Pentium M processor. Other features include a 40 GB hard drive, 512 MB of installed RAM, a combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive, and Windows XP Professional.

The Basics

  • Hard Drive: The 40 GB ATA/100 hard drive is on the small side compared to other notebooks. However, it does offer a decent enough capacity for storing documents and productivity software for road warriors--but not enough for much multimedia storage.
  • Processor: The 1.4 Ghz Pentium M processor is considered at the middle of speed range compared with other Centrino notebooks (with current speed topping out at 1.7 GHz). Because of itsdesign, the Intel Pentium M gets more done per clock tick than a Mobile Intel Pentium 4, thus providing the discrepency in GHz measurement (i.e., 1.7 versus 3.2). The Pentium M processor is designed specifically for low-power mobile usage, and it features the latest in power-saving technologies--ensuring you push your battery and productivity to the max. It has a front-side bus (FSB) of 400 MHz and a 1 MB L2 cache.
  • Memory: The 512 MB of built-in memory (DDR SDRAM) is a good start for power users. It has two memory slots in total, with a maximum memory expansion up to 1 GB (2 x 512 MB).
  • CD/DVD Drive: It is equipped with a combo drive that is capable of reading and writing of both DVDs and CDs. It uses the DVD+RW format, one of two formats for rewriteable DVDs.
  • Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a 109-key key keyboard with 6 launch keys (1 for power button, 1 for wireless on/off switch, 1 for Internet browser, 1 for e-mail, 2 programmable buttons) and a touchpad with 4-way scroll button.
Sound and Graphics
The Travelmate 290 features a large 15.1-inch XGA TFT display with a native resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. Video is powered by an Intel Extreme Graphics 2 card with 64 MB of video RAM. It also has an sound card that's integrated into the main board, and offers built-in stereo speakers.

Connectivity and Expansion Slots
This Travelmate 290 model has an integrated 802.11g (or 54g) wireless LAN, which is quickly becoming the most popular wireless standard and is compatible with 802.11b connections as well. You get a good range of external connections, including:

  • 3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
  • 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) ports for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
  • 1 VGA monitor port
  • 1 S-Video port for connecting to a TV
  • 1 fast infrared (FIR) port
  • 1 PCMCIA (or PC Card) slot (Type II)
  • 1 headphone jack and 1 microphone jack
It also offers and integrated 56K modem (V.92) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).

Preloaded System and Software
The Aspire 1700 comes with the Windows XP Professional operating system (which adds Microsoft's IIS Web server, back-up and recovery utilities, Remote Desktop, and other enhanced business features). Other preloaded software includes Norton AntiVirus 2003, Adobe Acrobat Reader, CyberLink PowerDVD, and NTI CD Maker 6.

Dimensions and Weight
The Travelmate 290 is nicely portable, measuring 10.9 x 13.1 x 1.3 inches (L x W x H) and weighing 6.2 pounds--though this is a bit heavier than other Centrino-based notebook PCs.

Power
It is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that has 2.5 hours of battery life (depending on usage), 2 hours of rapid charge, and 3.5 hours of in-use charge time.

What's in the Box
This package contains the Acer Travelmate 290 notebook PC, AC power adapter, and printed operating instructions. It's backed by a 1-year limited warranty for parts and labor as well as a 1-year International Traveller's warranty (ITW). ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Sony has taken the time to combine an enormously disparate set of functions into one startlingly potent package: the DCR-PC120BT. Not only do you get the high-resolution still mode (the images top out at about 1.4 megapixels, good for a camcorder), you also get an MPEG movie mode, Bluetooth wireless networking, and an MPEG movie mode. Beyond these extras, you do get the standard set of digital camcorder amenities, such as the 10x optical zoom, 2.5-inch LCD, and IEEE 1394 port.

The extras that Sony has packed into the PC120BT are mostly the standard set of extras. However, it's the addition of Bluetooth that truly sets this camcorder apart. With Bluetooth, you can wirelessly connect to any PC equipped with its own Bluetooth adapter, and upload photos, MPEG movie clips, send e-mails, and even--although we're not sure we see the utility of this--surf the Web. Both the digital stills and MPEG movie clips are recorded onto the included 8 MB Memory Stick.

The standard accoutrements play out fairly well with a 10x optical zoom with Super SteadyShot image stabilization. The 2.5-inch LCD is not terribly impressive except when you remember that this is a small camcorder (very small), and the 2.5 inches actually fit quite well with the overall package. You also get Sony's NightShot shooting mode--it's an infrared mode. The PC120BT also includes a few nice ports, including: USB, mic input, IEEE 1394, mini-AV, and S-video. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent compact camcorder
My criteria for a camcorder included compact size & the highest Mega pixel CCD for digital picture clarity. I researched the dcr-pc120, dcr-pc101, canon optura 100 & 200mc. (I decided to stay away from the microMV camcorders namely because they only have 60min max recording tapes and i feel the miniDV's have a larger audience)

I chose the dcr-pc120bt sony because:
1. it had a built in quality intelligent flash (4 settings - forced, red eye reduction, off, auto)
2. Hologram AF Low Light Laser Assist function (this function is incredible, using a class 1 laser for focusing in low lighting)
3. 0 lux nightshot rating
4. Progressive shutter system
5. Sony's great features and the warranty/options Sony offers

I considered the following equal in my comparison:
1. the digital zoom is not much good after 120x, therefore canon's 200x didn't become a factor
2. both have carl zeiss lenses
3. size
4. canon's optical stabilization is basically equivalent to sony's digital stabilization.

cons on the dcr-pc120bt:
1. grip and functioning the controls are a bit ackward (it takes a few days to get used to)- the canons 200mc is much more comfortable.
2. bluetooth functions pushes up the price.

I have no regrets on buying this camcorder! It took 2 minutes to install the USB driver and my computer recognized the memory stick as a removable disk where I could download pictures. If you can afford it, purchase this high quality pc120bt camcorder.

5-0 out of 5 stars It stands out
During my research I shortlisted following camcorders: Sony dcr-pc120bt , dcr-pc101 and Canon Optura 100mc.
All three had very similiar features but
120 stood due to following reasons:
1) 1.5 Mpixel CCD + progressive shutter
2) Halogram LF-- this feature will give even a 3 M.pixel cam run for it's money
3) Mpeg movies capability i.e It records Mpeg format on tape/memory stick which you can email as it's many times smaller than video file.
4) Built in intelligent flash
5) I could buy it for less ...with 5 year warranty.
...

Cons:
1) Canon 100mc has Optical stabilizer
2) dcr-pc101 has touch screen LCD. ( Idon't know how much I will touch though!)
3) Zoom control is on odd place for my big hands!

Camera arrived last week and I compared to the videos of my previous recordings (JVC dv + panasonic DV -- borrowed from friends) and difference is as big as HDTV Vs Regullar and unbeliable Snapshots !

This camera has bluetooth which I will enjoy couple of years later when there are more bluetooth devices.

Anyway , I like it for that price.

5-0 out of 5 stars This camera is a lot better than the new DCR-PC330
I own one DCR-PC120BT since more than 9 months now. And last week I had the chance to test the new 330. Forget it! After several days of practicing with both cameras the DCR-PC120BT is the clear winner!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great mix of price and quality
I've owned video cameras since my first Hitachi VHS in the 80's. This is the sharpest camera yet. I will be selling my Canon Optura DV, JVC GR-DVP3U and Sony Digital 8 to use this exclusively. The video picture quality is astounding, as is the low light performance. I added the wide angle lens and video light for an overall nice package. The digital still capability is useless compared to a real digital camera even in the same 1.5 megapixel rating. Still pictures look 'TV like', but the video sharpness just has me keeping the camera. I'm sure the 330 is even a better improvement, but I'd still be suspicious of the still picture performance.

1-0 out of 5 stars Nice looking camcorder, but Sony's customer service blew
four stars off this one. I got a C:31:23 error message when I insert a tape. It beeps and ask to eject the tape. When I eject the tape, it left the tape out all wrinkled up. The manual is no help to decipher the code. Why does it even display it if no one knows? Error code starts with "C" is self-servicable according to the manual. But it does not list all the codes obviously. The worst of all, after been put on hold for more than two hours, no one at their customer service takes the call and I finally gave up. I own many Sony products, this was the first time I tried to contact their customer service. It is just unbelievable. They dwarf the worst customer service experience you ever had. Why do they even have a phone number if no one answers it? Sony's customer service kills one's will to live. Take my advice, don't go there. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use with iPaq
I should have bought this a long time ago. I have had my iPaq for almost 1 year and finally bought this. Wow - it is so cool. Works very well with MS Pocket Streets. After seeing how this works, I can not imagine why anyone would pay $1000+ to buy a car with built in nav system.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great Bluetooth GPS receiver!
This product delivers exactly what it's advertised to do. I'm a Mac person and found it to be compatible with all of the available software (Route 66 for example). The Bluetooth implementation likewise is very compatible with OS X. One thing to be careful about is to follow the serial port setup advice (see www.66.com support notes for a clean procedure to get it working).

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Product - Terrible Support
As far as the product goes - this is incredible. Imagine something the size of a credit card and 1/4 inch thick being able to be tracked by a satellite. My Ipaq 2215 bonded quickly and effortlessly with this receiver - it was so easy to set up.

This was my first gps purchase, so obviously I had many questions. You have to register the product to ask a question via email and two weeks later - I still haven't received a reply to my questions.

For $150 more you can buy the nav pack - which the only difference is you get the software. I originally bought that but the maps weren't up-to-date so I returned it and bought this. I use MS MapPoint 2004 as my mapping software now and it works great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice!
Very nice product! Catches the satellites signals very quickly. I tried with iPAQ 5455 and 3955+Ambicom BT card and Pharos Ostia navigation system. Works perfectly fine. I am very happy with the product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than expected
Absolutely great! After charging the unit I turned it on to do a device discovery from my Ipaq 3970, that was it no other setup was needed (not even bonding like the manual says). I found that it was locked onto 8 Satellites inside the house and at least 20ft from any window. I would suggest this receiver to anyone. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Sony's FireWire-equipped DCR-IP55 MicroMV Handycam camcorder features a 1-megapixel CCD sensor and offers 520 lines of horizontal video resolution and still image resolution of 1,152 x 864. It also offers a foldout handle for use in shooting video on an angle, above a crowd, or when following fast-paced sports.

The DCR-IP55 boasts Carl Zeiss optics with an advanced multilayer coating. It features a 10x optical and 120x precision digital zoom, SteadyShot picture stabilization, and a super NightShot infrared system for recording in total darkness--new to MicroMV Handycam camcorders.

In addition to video, the DCR-IP55 offers enhanced digital still photo features, including intelligent pop-up flash and hologram AF--an autofocus feature designed to achieve accurate subject focus with minimal contrast in dark conditions. Through an MPEG movie AD mode, the DCR-IP55 also allows you to capture MPEG1 compressed video and audio for up to 60 seconds directly to Memory Stick media in four different quality modes: light, standard, fine, and super fine.

The MicroMV tape is 70 percent smaller than a MiniDV tape and provides up to 60 minutes of digital video footage. It has a 64K memory chip that allows for a multisearch function to access different recorded sections of the tape as one would a DVD, creating a thumbnail image of each recorded scene on the tape. Additionally, whenever a MicroMV cassette is inserted into the camcorder or the VCR mode is used, cassette information is automatically displayed on the LCD showing the first and last date of use, how much recording space remains, and titling capability so the user can title the videotape.

Connect to your PC or Mac via a superfast IEEE 1394 port (also called FireWire). You can also connect wirelessly to a Bluetooth-enabled PC. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a tiny, very cool camcorder doesn't mind limitations
Pros: Stylish and amazingly compact; innovative design; built-in flash and low-power video light; flexible low-light shooting.

Cons: Limited choice in editing apps for MicroMV video format; lens has fairly narrow angle of view; no accessory shoe or external microphone jack.

It has been a week after I bought this camcorder and so far it is great. The super night vision comes really handy if you go on camping or some other interesting dark places. The controls are very easy to reach and the picture quality is really good. Some people say that they do not like the cassette to be ejected from bottom, but I have no problems with it. I think it is fine. The movie shaker software that comes with the camcorder is not a very professional one. It can handle basic editing and it has great effects. Very easy to use and to set up. You can export the movies you capture in different formats such as real audio, quicktime, etc. It really takes a long time to export though. It is the same with other digital cameras. So, it shouldn't be a concern for you to decide if you should buy the camera or not. You can use the network function to email the photos to a website. If you have a bluetooth cell phone, it is very easy. But if you don't have one, you will have to buy the sony bluetooth adapter for the camcorder which costs about $199. It is better to buy a new cell phone than buying the adapter. This little device is top of the line. It has manual focus for better capturing. It has a smart flash which pops-up automatically when you hit the photo shoot button half-way down. One downside of the camera is that it does not have an input for external microphone. But the built in one does a good very good job. All in all, you should not miss this camcorder. It is affordable, small, cute, and it is SONY. You would never mind carrying it to everywhere you go. And if you are a guy, you'll make a lot of "female" friends. You'll become the center of attention. GRAB ONE! HAVE FUN!

2-0 out of 5 stars After Sales Service Very Poor
This camera seemed ideal for my needs and although I spend most of my time in Europe I opted for an NTSC format as I know that I am able to access this format in Europe whereas I cannot access PAL in the US, thus it being much more universal.

I bought this camera and after 40 days it developed a fault. I contacted Sony Service Centre in London, who after keeping it for 5 weeks explained that they could not repair NTSC Models in the UK and I would have to send it to the US for repair. I suggested that they should do that but no. I returned to the US and took the camera to one of their service centres who said that I would have to pay $216 labour charges as it was now over 90 days old.
After a great deal of hassle they eventually agreed to give me a work order to have this charge waived. I then sent it to Sony in PA and although I have been informed that it has been repaired I still am awaiting its return over 6 months after purchase. Just be sure you realise that the 12 month warranty only applies to parts, the labour warranty is 90 days, it is in the small print but easily overlooked. This review may not be helpful to everyone but if one person is helped then great.

1-0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars if it worked on a mac
Please sign the petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/osxmicmv/ requesting Sony support this camera (and other MicroMV camcorders) on Mac OS X.

This is a great camcorder, but it is impossible to use because you cannot get the video onto your Mac. For those of you that use a PC for video editing (yeah, right...) and don't mind using Sony's proprietary Movie Shaker program to do your editing instead of something like Premier (again, yeah, right), you will find this camera wonderful. But for the rest of us, Sony needs to take steps to open up this format or support the camcorder on the most popular digital video platform (Mac).

3-0 out of 5 stars Caution! Not compatible with Apple Computers
I was about to buy this little beauty when I found out Sony's MicroMV system (compressing in MPEG2) is not compatible with Apple's iMovie and other editing software. The editing software that comes with the camcorder (Movie Shaker) is PC only. So if you are a Mac user, save yourself a lot of hassle and prefer a (Sony?) MiniDV camcorder.

Apart from this issue, I guess it is a great buy. If I would use a PC, it would be on the top of my wishlist.

Amazon.com Product Description

Faster and far more capable than any other Apple notebook to date, the freshly unveiled 17-inch PowerBook G4 may be the most sophisticated portable computer ever released. Featuring an enormous display, an unrivalled feature set and virtually no performance bottlenecks, the stunning yet undeniably pricey 17-inch PowerBook G4 is ready to satisfy even the most discriminating professional or personal user.

Don't let the clock speed fool you. The system's PowerPC G4 processor is a real step up from last year's 1 GHz G4 chip, running at 1.33 GHz and featuring 512 KB Level 2 cache for rapid retrieval of recently accessed data. Apple has added 512 MB of ultra-fast PC2700 (333MHz) DDR SDRAM memory (upgradeable to 2 full GB) and an ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 graphics processor with 64 MB dedicated video memory, thus ensuring smooth operation during high-demand tasks such as 3-D games, 3-D drawing and multitasking.

This high-speed architecture continues throughout the unit, where you'll find connectivity options such a standard FireWire interface, an ultra-fast Apple-designed FireWire 800 port, two 480 Mbps USB 2.0 ports, integrated 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet, 54-Mbps AirPort Extreme wireless, and built-in Bluetooth for the new breed of cordless digital peripherals. Storage facilities include a spacious ATA/100 80 GB hard disk and a versatile DVD-R/CD-RW SuperDrive through which you can burn audio CDs, backup critical and write DVD-R discs at 2X speed.

Visually, the aluminum alloy-clad 17-inch PowerBook G4 is as dramatic as it is functional. Sporting the largest widescreen display of any notebook and the same screen dimensions as a 19-inch CRT monitor, the unit is nevertheless surprisingly thin and lightweight at 15.4 by 10.2 by 1 inches and 6.8 pounds. Other unique perks include a tap/double tap/drag trackpad, a convenient backlit keyboard for low-light situations, and a DVI output for the efficient digital connection of LCD monitors. Battery life is estimated at an admirable 4.5 hours under ideal conditions. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It replaced this professional's desktop!
Yes, yes, it's heavy and hot as hell. This is not the machine you prop up on your legs to read Google News in bed. Hopefully you have something better to do with your US$3K-$4K anyway.

I'm a professional media designer and image maker, and I replaced my old dual-processor Macintosh with the 17.1" 1.33 GHz Powerbook. This is a machine to tote onto a job site or to a presentation and produce great work...perfect for freelancers and those who might not work at their home base all the time.

Two great things I've not seen other reviewers mention are the audio hardware quality and dual-monitor support; these can't be under-rated. My Dell PC's audio line out is noisy and full of hiss, while the Powerbook's line out is so quiet that many musicians simply plug it into a club's audio system and it sounds great. Dual-monitor support is second to none. After chafing a bit at the widescreen nature of the screen (i.e., only 900 pixels tall), I instantly shut my mouth when I plugged in another monitor and it immediately started running at 1600 x 1200.

While there are some compromises one must make in going mobile, this machine does not disappoint. Rear legs for improved elevation, easy expandability, even a real tray for the DVD-RW drive ... all these things have been removed to make the machine as streamlined as possible. But I happily accept all these compromises to use a Macintosh that is powerful, relatively lightweight, portable...and sexy as all get-out. It's the only computing device I've ever owned that is a conversation starter. Now if these people would only just let me get back to work...

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Desktop replacement
I just purchased the newest Powerbook G4 with a stunning 17" display, a blazing fast 1.33GhZ processor and I just haven't been able to put it down. This computer is as well packaged as it is designed. The screen is bright and beautiful. The trackpad is responsive and large enough for even the biggest or the smallest of the hands to use. It has a CD and a DVD burner and not to mention Wireless capabilities built right in it. The coolest new feature I have to say would be the sensor controlled illuminated keyboard that just amazes the heck out of me.The machine is the fastest I have owned and with OS X Panther -- this laptop leaves the rest behind.
The only drawback is the price which for some people might be a bit over the top, but considering the product you are getting it is well worth it.
An absolute must buy.

4-0 out of 5 stars First Class Computer -- Need Upgrades for Support
As other reviewers have stated, the hardware itself is great. The computer is visually stunning. And the OS is rock-solid and user-friendly.

Some people have complained about the size for traveling. It's about as small as a 17" computer could be -- but if you are sitting in coach and the person in front of you reclines their seat, it's hard to use. (Get the 12" if you think this might be a problem for you.)

Finally, a word on Apple service. I had some problems with this computer and needed to send it back to Apple several times -- which is a bad thing. On the other hand, I finally reached Roberto, a Powerbook specialist in AppleCare, who was understanding and expedited my repair -- which is a good thing. 4-stars -- would have been 5-stars except for the hardware problems.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cost a lot, but it's a good computer
Now I've been down on Apple because they charge 2X for a computer built by they same people making computers for everyone else. But I have to admit, this thing looks great. Now I jumped ship to Centrino because I needed more battery life, but if I was to buy Apple again, this would be the one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great laptop...one thing i hate
I personally love this laptop....it's the best i've seen. 1.33ghz. Great speed. Lots of memory and love the Airport Extreme. One thing I don't like is the case. Your fingerprints will show like crazy but, don't worry about that..It's still good. I'm already burning movies in the first month. Love the Garageband, iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, and iDVD. Great stuff comes with this computer. I just preorded Microsoft Office v. X. I'm sure I'll love it. Anyway, overall...I give this computer 4-stars. If the case was better...5 ALL THE WAY.

P.S. Be sure to get the extended warrenty...you may need it. My 800mhz iMac just broke and I was 2 days away from my policy expiration date. Good thing i kept the receipt. ... Read more
