5-0 out of 5 stars Great buy
I've been using HP iPAQ Bluetooth GPS Navigation System with iPAQ 4155 for a week now, and here is my 2 cents.

Pros:
- Unit is small and doesn't have problems locating satellites in matter of seconds.
- HP provided excellent GPS Navigation software in this package. It's got everything that other, more expensive GPS systems have, if not more. Tons of points of interest are included. You can record a route, select route options, set speed alert, etc.
- Select maps that you need and put them on your storage card. Change maps as often as you need them. It is self intuitive and very easy to use.
- I like the way software zooms in automatically when it gets close to making a turn. Later, it zooms out.
- I like voce commands, notifying you of every turn.
- The unit displays not only your position, but your speed and altitude.
- Switches between day/night modes.
- The best of all IT WORKS WITH LAPTOP TOO!! All you need is any mapping software that supports GPS. I've used it with Microsoft MapPoint 2004 and USB Bluetooth on my laptop. And it works great, with the convenience of a relatively large screen.
- Great portability. Take it with you to any vehicle.
- Comes with car power adopter that you can use with your iPAQ PDA. And vice-versa, you can use your home adapter that you charge your PDA to charge GPS unit.
- Good battery life.

Cons:
- Maybe a little slow with address lookup sometimes.
- PDA Holder is not the best holder out there, and you should look at some other solutions to replace the one that came w/Navigation system. It's hard to find a good to position and to firmly place it in the air vent. My iPaq is not fixed in the holder and tends to slip to one side while driving.
- Choosing destination from your contact list may not work every time, mostly because you have unit number in the address or address is not in the format that HP likes it.
- The unit might lose contact/sight w/satellites if you are surrounded w/tall buildings. I've experienced this in downtown Chicago, IL.

I really like HP iPAQ Bluetooth GPS Navigation System and I think it's great product and it's worth the money. Have fun using it.

P.S. If you need a good car mount try ARKON Powered PDA & GPS Mount Kit. It's powered and it has amplified speaker, it's durable and well built. It can hold up to 10lbs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very impressive navigation solution!
I just got a new h4155 iPaq and ordered this navigation system to go with it. I was very impressed with the level of detail in the maps and have had no reliablity issues. I think the key is mounting the device somewhere in your car (not sticking it in your pocket like a previous reviewer). I have never lost bluetooth signal with the iPaq mounted using a magnetic dash mount. For the GPS I just set it on the dash. This is really a great value for a complete navigation solution!

4-0 out of 5 stars best bluetooth gps product on market
I've been using this product for 3 months after evaluating other products such as Pharos, Navman and Socket.

The strong points are:
1) quick TTFF(Time to First Fix). A cold fix usually can be obtained in under 2 minutes. Make sure it is mounted with a clear view of the southern sky. You can use a velcro sticky from a crafts store if the rubber surface is not adequate to prevent sliding. Most peoiple mount it on the dashboard. Be careful in hot sunny climates as the black surface can cause the unit to overheat.
2) Long Battery life: you can expect up to 8 hours with the lithium ion rechargeable battery. This is pretty good for most bluetooth receivers.
3) Works well with IPAQ devices. No pairing relationship is required. This is often not the case for other bluetooth receivers.
4) The mapping software is no-frills and works vey well. You can store important locations as favorites and also use addresses from your contacts on your PDA.

Cons:
1) The Black Case can cause unit to overheat in sunny locations when placed on the dashboard.
2) Glare from the PDA screen is noticeable in sunny daylight situations. This is a problem eveident in all PDA GPS solutions. It is safer and less distracting to rely on the spoken directions as the GPS will warn you well ahead of any turns. I would recommend using a quality vehicle mount with external speaker and charging built in. The ARKON unit is a good device.
3) Low audible output. Again, an external vehicle mount is a good idea when using this in your car.

4-0 out of 5 stars Better than the $1000 Magellan
I have been using this for a week and am quite pleased with it. I downloaded the maps for CA and the surrounding states (AZ, NV and OR) and they all fit with room to spare in the 256 MB SD card of my 4355. I have used the Magellan several times when I rented from Hertz and I found the interface much much better. The feature that I like the best is that you could set your destination using your Outlook contacts; no need to enter address or street names.

I am giving it 4.5 stars because of an annoying feature of the flashing BT blue light from the 4355 (which is not really the fault of the GPS device)when driving at night but otherwise a really great product.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good product, iPAQ problems
Overall I'd give this product something like 3 1/2 stars, as the device itself is ok, but the way it works with the iPAQ is problematic. The hardware itself is pretty straightforward, although you can charge only either the device or your iPAQ at once, not both at the same time with the car adapter (you can use the iPAQ AC charger to charge the device at home, however). More problematic is the iPAQ itself (in my case, the 5450), which is simply unreadable in the car due to glare--I had to take it out of the holster constantly to read it. The sound at full volume is also barely audible, I had to turn off the AC and radio to hear it; I would check the volume and readability of your PocketPC device in your car before considering this solution. The navigation software is competent, although it is somewhat erratic regarding turns; sometimes it tells you to turn a block before, other times right at the corner. The software will lock up on you (necessitating a reboot) if you don't exit the program before turning your PocketPC off--you can't just turn it off when you reach your destination. The GPS unsurprisingly conks out in tunnels, and can take several minutes to find itself again. It has a tendency to slide around on your dash unless you find a flat spot. The good things about this device? The price--one of the cheaper GPS solutions you can get if you have a PocketPC; portability, you can upgrade your PocketPC device and still use this solution; you can use it with Microsoft Streets (with a bluetooth connection) on a laptop. It's probably best used however with a passenger reading the iPAQ for you. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Is it slow? Yes. Is it under my desk? No
I no longer have to be a contortionist to load paper into my printer. Now I just step across the room and easily drop it in. However a color print job on my Epson C82 seems to be fairly plodding where it was relatively quick before. Text seems fine for small jobs. I am yet to attemp a photo. I have not been able to test the range yet but I can't imagine a need for a home printer 100 feet from me, I live in a condo for Pete's sake. If I ever need to relocate my printer to my balcony I will amend this post. Keep in mind that if you buy this you need two outlets. One for the printer power and one for the printer end of the adapter. I think I may actually relocate my printer to my bathroom just for amusement purposes.

1-0 out of 5 stars absolute crap
This unit is only for a small group of simple inkjet printers. The manufacturer does not mention this anywhere on the outside packaging. Check the manufacturers website for supported printers. The printer must be USB, and not require bi-directional printing. Range was about a dozen feet, not the 100ft advertised. You'd be far better off getting an 802.11b/g wireless printer server and add it to an existing wireless network than try to use the bluetooth set up. Multi-function printers, laser printers etc. will not work with this unit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Kept Wireless Printing Secret
Until wireless USB becomes available, this amazing gadget is a great way to roam and print. It functions as a wireless printer cable featuring bi-directional printing. Toss away your existing USB printer cable, plug in one USB adapter gizmo into your notebook, the other USB adapter gizmo into your USB printer -- voila, instant wireless USB printing. Its that simple (well, not quite, the printer adapter only worked when I used the supplied USB extension cable). The printer adapter requires use of the supplied AC-DC adapter (110v to 240v).

My computer is an HP zt3000 notebook. Printer is a Canon i80. Works great with the i80 although not documented as a compatible printer. Perhaps many non-documented printers will work also, YMMV. My wireless test range was 100 feet through one wall. The range is identical to my wireless router range. Aparently this gadget uses bluetooth, it is only pairs between the two supplied adapters, not possible to pair with any other devices (missed opportunity here).

This gizmo is better than using a print server because it allows bi-directional printing. However, I've got to wonder if there's problems with security or interference from other nearby units. So maybe its best to keep it a secret afterall.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wireless printing easy and comparatively affordable
As usual, when it comes to electronic gizmos, Amazon doesn't provide a lot of info on this, but I took the leap and bought it and now I'll give you the low down so you can decide if this baby is what you are looking for. Basically, this is a USB cable minus the cable. You plug one gizmo (the printer adaptor) into your printer and the other gizmo (the slave adaptor) into your USB port on your computer and you can print just as if you had the cable pluged in. If you have more than one computer, you can buy more slave adaptors separately to plug into each of them (Amazon sells these also). Now, my printer was already installed on both of my computers before I used this. I plugged this in and was able to print from both computers without problem. Ambicom has a website that gives better detail concerning printer compatability. Some printers will print more slowly using this gizmo but I didn't have that problem with my hp5650. Just check the chart on the web site before you buy this, the one on Amazon isn't detailed enough.

What I like:
1. You don't have to have a wireless network setup for this to work. It works all by itself between the printer and whatever computers you plug the slave adaptors into. If you do have a network setup, this isn't dependent on your setup so you don't have to worry about compatability issues.
2. No need for a "printer server" or any of that other confusing and expensive hardware.
3. No software to install for this gizmo to work. As long as you have your USB printer driver installed on your computer and you are already printing with a regular USB cable, just pull the cable and plug this in instead.
4. Works in a 100 foot radius.

What I don't like so much
1. The adaptors stick out about two inches from your computer and printer. Not generally a big deal, but my toddler and baby find the slave adaptor sticking out of my laptop fascinating and they have a tendency to yank it out. Of course, that's not a problem if you have two inches of space and no kiddos.

Things to keep in mind
1. The adaptor that plugs into your printer does need to be plugged in to a power source, which shouldn't be a problem since the printer has to be plugged into a power source. It does come with it's own power cable.
2. It is not compatable with all printers and the list on Amazon is not completely accurate, so check out the chart on the Ambicom website.
3. This item is actually both adaptors - one for your printer and one for one computer. To hook up additional computers, buy a slave adaptor (also sold on Amazon) for each additional computer you want connected. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use with iPaq
I should have bought this a long time ago. I have had my iPaq for almost 1 year and finally bought this. Wow - it is so cool. Works very well with MS Pocket Streets. After seeing how this works, I can not imagine why anyone would pay $1000+ to buy a car with built in nav system.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great Bluetooth GPS receiver!
This product delivers exactly what it's advertised to do. I'm a Mac person and found it to be compatible with all of the available software (Route 66 for example). The Bluetooth implementation likewise is very compatible with OS X. One thing to be careful about is to follow the serial port setup advice (see www.66.com support notes for a clean procedure to get it working).

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Product - Terrible Support
As far as the product goes - this is incredible. Imagine something the size of a credit card and 1/4 inch thick being able to be tracked by a satellite. My Ipaq 2215 bonded quickly and effortlessly with this receiver - it was so easy to set up.

This was my first gps purchase, so obviously I had many questions. You have to register the product to ask a question via email and two weeks later - I still haven't received a reply to my questions.

For $150 more you can buy the nav pack - which the only difference is you get the software. I originally bought that but the maps weren't up-to-date so I returned it and bought this. I use MS MapPoint 2004 as my mapping software now and it works great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice!
Very nice product! Catches the satellites signals very quickly. I tried with iPAQ 5455 and 3955+Ambicom BT card and Pharos Ostia navigation system. Works perfectly fine. I am very happy with the product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than expected
Absolutely great! After charging the unit I turned it on to do a device discovery from my Ipaq 3970, that was it no other setup was needed (not even bonding like the manual says). I found that it was locked onto 8 Satellites inside the house and at least 20ft from any window. I would suggest this receiver to anyone. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars PDA Yes Laptop No Support non-existent
I got this card to work with Dell X5 PDA and my Sony T610 phone. However, I cannot get it to work with my Dell Latitude Laptop running Win 2000. It finds the remote device, allows connections, but if you try to move files, you get a protection error. Synchronization using the Sony software never finds the phone, even if it is connected, bonded.. Emails to Socket support get no reply. No mention of problems or hints in their FAQ. No updates for the Windows software or drivers on the website (they seem to be selling this software for previous card buyers). They get two stars because it worked with the PDA.

Gratuitous comment: why does anyone think Bluetooth has a future? It is more complicated than wifi, slower, and seems more difficult to use. Once the low power wifi chips enter the market, bye-bye Bluetooth. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Relatively, it's very easy
As far as getting this card to work with my PDA, this card was certainly the easiest. I also bought an AmbiCom BT2000 card, and with that card I couldn't get my PDA to connect to my phone. It was very nice, just didn't work with my PDA well. After that experience, this took me 10 minutes.

Important added bonus - this is the least obnoxious card out there. It's so small that it does not stick out of the slot, which prevents it from being seen and/or damaged. Blinking lights on your card are overrated!

5-0 out of 5 stars This works like a charm!
I'm using an Audiovox Maestro with the Socket card + an Ericsson T68 cell phone. I don't know what the complaints are about, it works like a charm. I keep the phone in my pocket and web-browse using my PDA, or I can synch them wirelessly. Setup was a complete breeze, the current Socket software for handhelds walks you through the process. I can't imagine this being any easier, and I'm shocked by the other comments. Maybe their beta software sucked, but the release versions are wizard-driven and simple.

4-0 out of 5 stars Portable and effective, could use some improvement.
There are a few annoying things with this unit. It doesn't always connect when it should, but resetting the Jornada makes the connection work. It certainly isn't as fast as I would like, average speed of 14.4.
All in all, the portability and functionality makes this a great buy. If you have the bluetooth kit and a pocket PC, this is a must have; at least until the next level improved modem comes along!

2-0 out of 5 stars Anything but "easy" to use
The marketing hype says "easy and simple", I'm finding that Bluetooth is anything but. Had to download beta-test software from the manufacturer to make this card work with my PDA, and am now to consider myself an "early adopter". What happened to "simple and easy"-- and the card is selling for top dollar. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Belkin Bluetooth USB Adapter
Without a picture I can't be sure we are all talking about the same thing. I have a Belkin USB Bluetooth Adapter (Model #F8T001). I've used the adapter on both my laptop and PC with good results. The laptop went much more smoothly because I ran the installation CD first before inserting the USB. If you plug and play, Windows recongnizes something, but cannot find the drivers easily. The 100m range seems optimistic, but I have been able to access my Sony Ericsson t68i phone while it is sitting in my bag, in the corner of the office.

4-0 out of 5 stars A complete dream... if you own a mac
Another reason why macs are awesome when it comes to input devices. I bought this USB adapter solely for my new AT&T Sony Ericsson T68i, and I've never touched my mMode kilobytes to download ringtones and backgrounds. The only reason that it doesn't get 5 stars is because you still have to tinker with settings but those are fairly simple, and yes its hard to set up with PC's, but other than that you'll be up and running after you get through those quarks. This USB adapter's strength is awesome because I have an oddly shaped room, and even if my phone is behind me on the other side, I can still sync them together. I've just purchased an HP printer thats bluetooth enabled and it works wonders, don't even have to use my network to get it up and printing. I tried using this with my PC and its totally not communicating with it, the previous critic is right, its just another port. But I won't shun it away because the mac makes it a device you can't live without. If you have a mac, get this, you'll be glad you did when you start investing in bluetooth devices.

5-0 out of 5 stars V2 is very good
I was an early adapter of the version-1 of this product which was unstable and lacked many of the bluetooth functionality, but was adequate to sync my T68i. However, when I upgraded my phone to T610, along with a bluetooth headset, I realized I am missing a lot of functionality with the old adapter and learned that the V1 model can't be even upgraded to Bluetooth 1.1. So, instead of throwing it away, I just thought of checking with their customer service about a possible exchange, and they were very kind to agree immediately (I should say I am impressed with the customer service). So I got a free upgrade to the version-2 of this model and I am glad I did that. So far the product has been very stable and installation and setting up was a breeze. I was able to successfully synchronize T610 (I use an old verion of PDASync for that as the built-in sync doesn't support PalmDT), copy images from and to the phone, dial-up to ISP through it, and even used it as a headset for the phone (could occassionally substitute the the missing speaker phone functionality in T610). I could also successfully use the Jabra BT200 headset with this adapter, very useful to do voice chats at home.

The range seemed good, however I couldn't verify the claimed 100m, as I need another device which gives that much range. Over all I am impressed and recommend it. However, I have no knowledge of other adapters so I am not really comparing with other adapters (except the V1 of itself). To comment about the size, I would say it is average (a little longer but slimmer than V1). The DLink adapter does seem smaller, but the highly rated Linksys adapter seemed much fattier than this one. If size is important, I recommend checking it out and compare with others in a local store.

PS: I am pretty sure that all the -ve comments about this product actually belong to the version-1 of this product. Since Amazon didn't put up any image for some time, many must have mistaken this for the version-1 and must have rated it based on that. You should really ignore all the old reviews.

3-0 out of 5 stars it works, it's just a little clunky
i picked this up for the same reason several other readers did: i wanted to be able to move pictures, sound, and my phonebook from my phone to my laptop and back. i use a thinkpad x31 using windows xp for this task.

use the supplid drivers from the cd, they're much better than anything windows will attempt to do. and it will just work, unlike what windows may create.

browsing with the supplied belkin software is clunky and ackward, not nearly as fluid as it could be. it's most definitely not as smooth as it is under Mac OS X, but hey, that's what you get. it works, i get to move pictures around on my phone and my contact list without a cable. but it's prone to fits of delays and ackwardness.

i'm wishing there was better integration with windows xp right now, xp sp2 supposedly has smoother bluetooth software and browsing. i wish the belkin sofware worked as nicely. as it stands, this isn't the convenient device i hoped it would be, but i'll keep using it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Belkin F8T001
I bought this to use in conjunction with my wife's Sony Clie UX50. The device configuration was a snap, and paired successfully to the Sony, but I had problems configuring it to Hot Sync, Belkin support was terse at best, but the Sony support was great, and had the problem resolved in 20 minutes. It works as expected. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars wow, this is more useful than i thought it could be
This is a huge jump for me from a visor(palm os), as long as you like windows os you should be really happy with this pda. it is fast, has plenty of storage for apps and the colors are beautiful. it has multimedia, music, video and jpgs. with windows xp, the device appears as a networked resource when synched, which is very neat. i find that i am able to read books on this device, because the graphics are so good, unlike my palm. i have used the bluetooth capability, and it was moderately difficult to configure on my network. it does seem to suck up power, but i have never experienced powere loss. i have had it for 6 months now, and have only had to reboot the thing once, and it was the result of some crappy shareware.

cheers...

4-0 out of 5 stars Terrific and dependable
I've owned this handheld for only 1 week, have graduated up from an older, different brand handheld.

This device is very relaible, deependable, and intuitive in its functionality.

The device comes packed with software features, downloads programmes quickly from the net, operates seamlessly with my PC, and is surprising fast during processing. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars PPC2003 Driver for Belkin BT CF Adapter
I use a driver downloaded from Dell or Philips. It works fine, only is unable to establish bluetooth dial up modem connection.

1-0 out of 5 stars No driver for Pocket PC 2003
Although the product looks OK and I guess it should work OK, I haven't been able to make it work yet as Belkin has no driver for Pocket PC 2003 yet ! When I contacted the technical support, they said that they had no date for release of a compatible driver !!
Better purchase another bluetooth adapter if you are running Pocket PC 2003. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it for Bluetooth!!!
It's very simple: if you want a great wireless desktop solution, but don't give a hoot about Bluetooth connectivity, this is the product for you. If you want to ever connect to anything else via Bluetooth, don't even think about it.

I have done hours of Googling looking for a solution to this problem, but have come up with the same result everywhere I go: the Microsoft BT dongle is virtually useless outside of communicating with the mouse and keyboard (and maybe a printer). It seems that many people have had to buy a BT dongle from a 3rd party and throw away the Microsoft dongle.

I feel extremely betrayed by Microsoft's claims of connectivity with this set-up. I just bought a Sony Ericsson T616 with BT, and can't use it with my computer. If you want to connect a phone, don't buy this product!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Works with Belkin transceiver
I like the feel of the mouse and the keyboard, BUT I didn't like the idea that I could only use bluetooth to connect the keyboard and the mouse (I have a PocketPC that I like to sync over BT as well).

The supplied transceiver doesn't support anything but the keyboard and mouse. HOWEVER...

I have Belkin's USB bluetooth transceiver which works great. Install the Belkin device and then add the mouse and keyboard as HID devices (this might not be obvious... Use the Bluetooth setup wizard from "My Bluetooth Places".

Everything will work, except you won't have access to the special keys on the keyboard. If you want that as well as battery level tracking, go ahead and install the mouse and keyboard software from the CD included with the keyboard, except: ignore the message about deinstalling existing Bluetooth software and cancel the install when it asks you to connect the supplied MS Bluetooth transceiver. At this point, the keyboard/mouse software has been installed and you don't need the MS bluetooth stuff anyway. In the end, the install takes about 15 min and everything works as it should. PLUS, the belkin transceiver works with everything, including the PocketPC.

5-0 out of 5 stars Keep it updated
I find this combo excellent once you've updated the drivers just as you need to do with all computer hardware, microsoft is very good at supporting their in-house products and this is no exception. I had the Intellimouse Explorer mouse for two years and it started having problems,I called MS and they only asked for was it's serial number and sent a new updated mouse replacement without question albeit it took a month. Bluetooth tech is still developing and needs updating,if your a computer savvy geek and want leading edge equipt like this combo,go for it..I give it for 5 stars.

2-0 out of 5 stars annoying
ive had mine for a long time and most of the time ive had it i hadent been able to get it to work, any other wireless keyboard and mouse set would probably be a better idea. on another machine the logitech wireless system worked as soon as it was pluged in, but this required many hours troubleshooting, uninstalling and reinstalling just trying to get it to finally see that yes there is infact a keyboard and mouse present within its range. so if your into annoying things, please by all means buy it. otherwise id at least recomment a wireless set where you can charge the mouse batterys so they dont run out too quickly. i suppose that is a plus, the batterys dont run out *too* fast with the microsoft one..

1-0 out of 5 stars Worked for one day
My experience with this is similar to many of the other reports. It worked beautifully for one session (a few hours), after a multi-reboot install procedure (not difficult, but not well thought out). The next day neither the mouse nor keyboard worked. The reconnect procedure could not find either. I reinstalled the software and still could not get it to connect. The microsoft website was no help. I got it from Best Buy, which had almost a dozen "open item" packages of the product (at $10 discount), but no new copies. I guess that should have served as a warning. Will be returning it today, and probably buying the Logitech Bluetooth setup (I need the range that bluetooth provides). ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Lacks Mouse Support
Having recently purchased both the Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse Explorer for Bluetooth and the Belkin Bluetooth card I was hoping for compatibility between the two. I could not locate presales literature for either device indicating compatibility. Net result is that the PC card does not have the "input device" (according to Microsoft phone support), service needed by the mouse, therefore your mouse will not work with the Belkin card. Belkin phone technical service says they will have a software upgrade to support Bluetooth mice by March 2003. One additional challenge is that the driver software is not signed. It will still load on Windows XP if you allow it. Driver upgrade is confusing. The driver upgrade from Belkin, Version 1.2.2.4c, when loaded indicates that it is Version 1.2.1.20, which is the same as the old version. Technical support says that the new driver is loaded but they "forgot" to update the version number. Good points - simple to install if you follow the directions, small and sturdy form factor, easy to contact support, good price. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great!
I had no problem installing this on on XP machine. It doesn't work with Win 2003 server yet, but tech support said they are working on drivers and will be available soon.

Iogear's customer support is good, I emailed them and received a response same day.

Works great with my Sony Ericsson T-610.

2-0 out of 5 stars Operating range is poor
I purchased this item so I could HotSync my Palm Tungsten T3 from my couch which is 15 feet from my computer. According to this product's specs, that should have been well within its operating range. I was very disappointed to find that it only worked within a 10 foot range. I have tried contacting IOGear via email, but they have not responded to my query for help.

1-0 out of 5 stars Does not work with Nokia 3650
This adapter does not work with a Nokia 3650 cell phone! I purchased this because it was the cheapest USB/Bluetooth adapter and from what I had read they pretty much all worked the same. What a mistake. After doing a little research, I've found other postings on the web of others who have had similar problems trying to get this to work with their phones.

Unfortunately, I got the adapter a few days before the phone and I've already thrown away the box. Oh well, $25 down the drain... ... Read more
