5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome piece of equipment
Ignore the mediocre reviews on Brighthand and ZDNET. I own this machine and it kicks serious butt.
Positives
1. The screen is by far the best on the market. Kicks Pocket PC butt and even CLIE earlier models.
2. Camera is awesome. You may say why do I need a camera all the time but believe me, if you have it you will take more spontaneous pictures.
3. Keyboard is much better than previous models.
4. Movies is also a plus..take some heat of the moment clips.
5. Bluetooth Hotsync is convienient. Link up with phone to check email.
6. Wi-Fi means you can surf anywhere

Negatives:

None- you may size but whats the size of carrying a camera and a PDA.

Having used the Sony Ericsson P800 Smartphone which was rubbish- bad operating system, bad voice clarity, useless camera

I'd rather use this machine and a bluetooth phone

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Play
I finally made the plunge and bought the NZ90. After being a die-hard Palm user (starting from the Palm Professional,III,Vx,M505), I switched to the Sony Clie.

I truly enjoy playing with the NZ90. It has more functionality than the Palm M505. The camera and video features are amazing. The 2mb still camera produces decent quality pictures. One use I make with the camera is to take shots of documents from work. Now I can reveiw my work on my Clie without having to take home hard copies. The video function gives me the opportunity to film short clips on the fly of my baby boy. (I chose to defer purchase of a digital video camera and opted to use the video on the Clie.) The video quality is poor, but serves its purpose until my son begins to walk when I then plan on purchasing a digital camcorder. Also, I purchased the wireless card for the Clie. GREAT. I love this. You can check pop3 email and browse the internet without having to boot-up your laptop or computer. The easy power on/off of the pda makes it quick for me to check email as well as read the daily news.

2 negatives that needle me:
1) Batter life is poor, especially when using the still camera with flash. The flash drains the battery after 10 shots.
2) The size is a hurdle. Unlike the sleek m505 design, I have to carry the bulky NZ90.

I enjoy playing with my NZ90, emphasis on the "playing". As for practicality, I miss the m505 design as I daily use the address book, calendar, memo.

1-0 out of 5 stars a piece of junk
Dont ever buy this product. It comes with a packet of junk softwares. Take for example audio player. It can only play files which has a frequency of 44.1KHz and data rate of 96kbps to 128kbps. However there are some awesome products out there, but since sony doesnt provide their API, these products dont work for nz90.
Battery life is terrible. Even when your battery is %80 percent charged, you cannot use flash to take a picture. I think with fully charged battery you can only take 5 ( yes it is 5) pictures. Then your battery is totally gone.
There are so many negatives for this products that I can write 5 paged on that!!!!
Exteremely disappointed user of nz90.
Luckily I saved so many friends of mine to do the same mistake!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars A jack of all trades - master of none
It may be a great idea to have a PDA and camera combo, but this product is not it. It has the best screen I have seen (big and bright); excellent game selections; but is cumbersome due to the flip screen and ridiculous stylus storage.

The camera takes good photos, but the lag time from shutter release to taking a picture is very slow and you need a very steady hand for quality picures. The still and video camera use way too much power (in relation to a stand alone camera which may be able to take up to one or two hundred pictures on a battery charge vs about 15 - 20 for this one) The screen is just about invisible in sunlight making it very difficult to frame picures.

The Piscel Viewer for documents is not user friendly and you cannot edit any documents without additional software. As a PDA alone it is not bad, but many are better due to battery life and are more user friendly.

Just a bad choice. Battery life at this time is way behind the state of the art (5 hrs max just leaving it on). The power lasts about two hours playing even simple games (something like backgammon). You cannot even fill a MS on one battery charge and movies cannot be taken (or the flash used) at anything less than full power. The battery is rechargeable (and removable), but there is no external charger available. Batteries must be charged in the Clie.

The cradle connection is awkward and usually takes both hands and some jiggling to get it to seat on the cradle. The only way to tell it is seated properly is to turn it on and make sure the battery logo has a lighting bolt accross it indicating that the unit is charging and therefore is properly seated in the cradle.

I am now looking at a Pocket PC and digital camera (separate) to get better performance. Any one want a sightly used Clie NZ 90??

5-0 out of 5 stars HUGE in every sense !
Well, let's start by the basics. This machine is HUGE by any means if you compare it to any other PDA. It's like, well, the Darth Vader of all the Palm Powered devices. It's black, it's menacing, it's all-powerful. You can stun an attacker with it if you whirl it over your head and hit him (it includes a convenient hand strap for that purpose).

Jokes aside, it is well built (i used to have a Clie NR70V and it was very fragile), the hinges and swivels are tight, it won't open inside your backpack and get all scratched inside.

It is also a nice PDA, with all the useful stuff that any common handheld has. (Memo, Agenda, Address, To Do, Whatever). But it excels on the add-ons. That's the best part.

The digital camera is awesome (autofocus/manual focus, flash, 2.0 MP) and it can store hundreds of pictures. There are many options and settings to play with.

It also has audio recorder software. The sound is crisp, clear, and you can record many, many, many hours of speech, enviromental audio or anything.

As any other Clie, it has its own mp3 player. There's no need to buy the special SONY smartmedia card to use it: a Lexmark alternative will do the trick.

Of course, if you combine audio + pictures, you'll get a video camera. It works as one. Not great quality, it might be compared with having a webcam with you all the time.

What else ? Integrated keyboard, speaker, remote control, a couple of headphones, infrared port.

I can even speak about Bluetooth. I don't have any bluetooth gear in my house, but i'm leaving the wake-up option enabled and see if i find any BT devices in my office. Besides the blinking blue led looks cool :).

It has many improvementes since the last Clie versions. The memory stick has changed its place, so it doesn't flip out every time you put it in your pocket. The craddle is now foldable and you can take it everywhere to charge and/or connect your clie. You can even attach it to the PDA and carry it around.

Even when it is bulky, it is very well built and with a nice eequilibrium... you can hold it in your hand and it won't fall easily. That happened with the NR70V: the screen was heavier than the body, so it fell backwards always.

The keyboard is a lot better and easier to use by now. Also the back button has been moved a little and it's easier to use than before.

The camera doesn't rotate anymore... but i didn't miss the feature, since you can still use it in the open or closed form, to take pictures of yourself or others.

I would complain only about few things:

- The pen is thin ! It looks thinner compared to the huge agenda. And it has a very weird way to attach to the PDA.
- The picture browsing is waaaay slow. I'll better find a better program to handle the pictures.
- I can't recall anything else, but i'm sure that there were some things that bothered me. Ah ! The memory !!! Yes. That's upsetting: you see, there are 16 Mb of RAM but you can access only 11 of them. Why ? I don't know. However the better use of the memory stick features compensates the lack of actual memory. I would have expected at least 64 Mb RAM for a beast like this. Well, let's say it's 4 and a half stars. Oh, the price !!! Wait a little until it drops. But even now it's worth every cent. For a journalist is the perfect tool. And for a physician (who i am) too.
- And, it might seem crazy, but i find this size more comfortable for me than before. I don't think of it as a PDA, instead i think of it as a pocket sized notebook. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Power Concentrated = Palm Tungsten T2!!!
The Tungsten T2 is my second purchase from Palm. This upgrade from my Palm m130 blew me away as soon as I turned on the T2 for the first time.
This PDA has both a great size and a powerful Texas Instruments OMAP1510 processor with the latest Palm OS v5.2.1.
The Tungsten T2 also comes with 32MB of memory, an Outstanding color high resolution 320x320 screen, Realone Player for your Mp3s, Built-in Bluetooth, and a Built in Voice Recorder. Not to mention a 5-way navigator button that allows anyone to access information with just one hand. All of these functions are jsut great especially if your frequently using the T2 for school and work. Thanks to the T2, I know 4 years from now my next PDA will be from Palm

P.S. J&R Music and Computer World as well as Amazon.com gave the best deals on purchasing a Tungsten T2

3-0 out of 5 stars Fast CPU, great screen, but no wi-fi
The T2 is an updated version of the original Tungsten, and as such sports a minor upgrade in the OS software as well as a better color screen and more memory -- 32MB total in RAM, but only 29MB user-accessible. Still that's plenty for a Palm-based PDA. The performance is truly snappy; playing MP3's, which still require a Secure Digital memory card, gives no hiccups. Every thing responds instantanenously. One star taken off for requiring using an SD card for MP3 and video playing. Another star for not including wi-fi (802.11b or g); instead, the less common Bluetooth wireless technology is built-in. You can use BT to talk to BT-enabled cell phones, but it's a hassle. Sure you can buy an Secure Digital wi-fi card soon, but 1) that draws more battery power than built-in wi-fi circuitry, and 2) you can't use wi-fi and expansion memory (or play MP3s) at the same time. What a dumb design! Battery is still not user-replaceable, unlike the new trend with Pocket PCs.

Overall, the T2 is pleasant to use and truly compact. But the lack of wi-fi and the need to use expansion for an enhanced experience make it a poor choice for the power user (such as yours truly).

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product w/ great bonus uses!
I absolubtely love my Tungsten T2. I've had no problems and, unlike a reviewer below, I've never had a 'fatal error' or had to do a hard restart and lose any data. I'v also never run out of batteries or had any other sort annoyance. This is just an all around great palm, and makes life a heck of a lot more organized. Two great uses: 1. I cook a lot and when I find a recipe I want to ty online, I just immediately type in the ingredients onto my desktop software's to do list, do a hotsync, and go to the grocery store w/ everything on a neat checklist. 2. I also travel a lot. When I am preparing for a trip, I can search for restaurant reviews, store locations, museum exhibit details, and then just copy them and paste them onto my memo pad on my desktop software, hotsync, and then I have full articles and reviews at my fingertips. Those are some awesome bonuses to an already highly useful little device.

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice concept-lousy execution
When it works it's marvelous. Unfortunately it is a huge source of frustration. The big problem is in the "hot-sync" function. I have installed the software on four seperate computers, with three different operating systems. They all react the same way: within a short time when a "hot sync" is performed you get a "Fatal Alert" error on the Palm. Sometime a reset will clear it sometimes it won't. Sometimes you have to do a hard reset and lose your data. Their customer support is off-shore and the language problem is overwhelming. One-half hour on the phone just to get a Service Request number. When it came back it was exactly the same. The software has to be reinstalled regularly on the PC to keep it working right. I have reinstalled the PC software over a DOZEN times on four different computers just to make sure my data is safe and functionable. The software is MISERABLE!! Get a Sony.

5-0 out of 5 stars Improvement on a great theme
I am a former owner of the original T|T. After a little over a year of T|T use, the power button became much less responsive. After several calls to PalmOne's customer service and speaking to several nice Indian folks (Note: PalmOne customer service is obviously outsourced overseas), I was told that it would be $125 to have the unit repaired. This was too much to invest in old hardware. I enjoyed the small form factor of that device so much, I decided to buy a T2 (depite PalmOne's abysmal customer service).

The appeal of the screen has been mentioned several times. I would agree tremendously! I thought the original screen was pretty good. However, the 320x320 display on this unit makes the original T|T look like someone put window tint on it. I also enjoyed the extra internal memory. The subtle changes with the Palm OS were nice too: like hitting the 5 way button to the right when in your address book to look a name up and the color themes.

One aspect that I just could not bring myselft to do was to adopt Graffiti 2. I have used the original Graffiti for so long that using anything else is heresy. For those that are like me, simply grab your old handheld with Graffiti 1 and get a file manager program. Search the ROM for the following two files: Graffiti Library.prc, and Graffiti Library_enUS.prc. Now beam them to your new handheld. Do a Soft Reset on your new handheld and PRESTO, you now have Graffiti 1 again.

If I had any advice, it would be to buy PalmOne products with a credit card that doubles the manufacture's warranty because their customer service is terrible and they will deny warranty service if your handheld is 1yr and 1day old. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Early Adopters Pick: Oct ober 2002. The world's first digital camcorder that also takes 2.1-megapixe l digital still pictures; weighs only 24 ounces and has integrated Bluetooth te chnology to transfer images to a computer without wires or cables.

Sony's 2-megapixel DCR-IP220 is a serious recording tool for the digital videographer who wants all of Sony's advanced features in a single camcorder. The DCR-IP220 records on the miniscule MicroMV tapes, offers Super NightShot and Night Framing modes, hologram autofocusing, and Bluetooth connectivity. Unfortunately, all of these hefty features add up to a fairly hefty price.

Assuming that cost isn't an object, this camcorder does pretty much anything you'd want it to. The MicroMV tapes--70 percent smaller than MiniDV--each have a 64 KB memory chip so you can scan through different sections of the tape like a DVD, locating scenes by their thumbnails.

The high-detail 2.5-inch LCD swings up above the camcorder, and pivots 270-degrees so you can view it from almost any angle--including in front of the camera. The LCD also serves as a touchscreen interface, with a stylus for accessing menus, and it displays both approximate battery life and remaining storage space.

For storing short clips and still images (at 1,600 by 1,200 resolution), the DCR-IP220 features a Memory Stick slot and includes an 8 MB stick. Its night and low-light filming capabilities are quite impressive--we were able to read details from across a darkened room with the Super NightShot mode. And the Night Framing mode takes bright, full-color still images in limited light.

Connectivity options abound, with FireWire (either camera to camera or camera to PC), USB, and Bluetooth support built into the camcorder. It also includes a color viewfinder, intelligent pop-up flash, and an adequate (although not stellar) 10x optical zoom.

Sony's DCR-IP220 isn't for the faint of wallet, but if you're not satisfied with anything but the best, this camcorder was built for you. --J. Curtis

Pros:

  • Excellent night modes
  • Sharp, high-resolution video and image quality
  • Unique and compact tapes

Cons:

  • Expensive (though chock-full of cutting-edge features)
  • Only 10x zoom

3-0 out of 5 stars microMV is not for everyone
on paper, the IP220 looks like a winner. but after a close look and i'm not as sold...

pros:
- delivers vibrant colors when shooting in daylight.
- 10x carl zeiss vario-sonnar T* lens.
- 2MP still capability.
- great connectivity options: firewire, USB, S-video, headphone, bluetooth, mic input, etc.
- has a built in pop-up flash for taking stills.
- steady shot and night shot.
- ability to record mpeg videos directly to memory stick.
- top-loading cassette.
- boatloads of optional accessories.
- manual focus/zoom ring on lens.
- has NightFraming which allows you to focus and compose your scene in total darkness with the aid of the infrared emitter, then shoot a full-color still with the pop-up flash. very cool.

cons:
- microMV format is proprietary and may go the way of betamax.
- microMV video quality is noticeably worse than MiniDV.
- images emerge washed-out when shooting indoors.
- uses an mpeg version that may not be compatible with your current video editor.
- Super Night Shot, Color Night Shot very choppy in low/no light.
- not Mac compatible.
- very bad ergonomics - zoom and photo shutter controls are poorly positioned.
- LCD can't tilt backwards - if you've had it before, you'll miss the ability to show kids themselves as you videotape them.
- the advantage of microMV is size but that's not reflected in this camcorder. this is the biggest microMV camcorder out there: 3.9"W x 3.0"H x 5.3"D, weighing 1.5 lbs. you can get smaller camcorders like the panasonic's gs70 or sony's trv33 or the pc105. granted, those have less features, mainly still camera capability (2.0 megapixel vs 1.0 megapixel).
- as with most sony products, you pay a premium, pushing up the price.
- the included 8MB memory stick (for a 2 megapixel still camera!) is unacceptable. you'll need at least a 64MB memory stick with if you want to take full advantage of the higher resolution pics you'll be taking.
- although bundling the camcorder and still camera together means you only have to carry one piece of equipment, it also means that if one breaks, you have to replace both.
- as an alternate to this bundling strategy, you can get a gs70 or trv33 or pc105 and get a 3 megapixel still camera and still save money in the process!
- battery life could be better.
- only 2.5" LCD and it's not as crisp as others in the sony line-up.
- non-intuitive menu system.
- bottom loading battery so you can't replace this while mounted on a tripod.
- the accessory shoe is not a hot shoe.
- no built in video light but you can get one less than a hundred bucks.

in the end, the microMV format is a deal breaker for me. it is sony proprietary and not widely supported. and the main reason for even using microMV (size) is not really reflected in this camcorder. if you're looking for a camcorder/camera hybrid, i'd say wait a couple more years (hopefully). the still quality is just not there yet. your best bet is to get a decent camcorder and complement it with a stand-alone digital camera.

i hope this helps your buying decision. peace.

3-0 out of 5 stars Micromv:Not for the Serious Computer Video Editor
I bought the Sony DCR IP220 because of its 2.0 Megapixel capabilities and while I love the resolution that it displays on the TV, I am not impressed with the quality of footage after capturing to computer. Here are the pros and cons that I have found:

PROS:
1.Great resolution and great quality video produced (530 lines and 2.2 megapixels). (5 star quality)
2. Digital zoom (X700) works fine using a tripod and produces somewhat clear images. Any zoom magnification up to X120, produces very clear moving images.
3. The still pictures are compatible with any 2.0 megapixel camera.
4. Low light video never appeared grainy.
5. Touch screen menu-Many options are available & can be reached quickly. It has a similar feeling to a PDA Palm pilot.

CONS:
1.Video Editing or video email is only possible if your computer system is Windows ME, XP, 2000, and above. If you have Windows 98/98SE and below, then you need to upgrade.
2.If you are into serious computer editing, then this is not the camera for you. The Micromv format is supported only by Sony's Movie Shaker (included), Ulead's MediaStudio Pro 7, and Pinnacle's Studio Deluxe 8.1 . MovieShaker captures with the best quality, but it produces pixellated moving images and stores the files as .mmv. After capturing, the file must be exported to mpeg/avi/etc format. To render 1min 46secs of mmv footage, it took me about 30 mins for mpeg 2 and 8 mins for mpeg 1. MediaStudio 7 captures micromv footage very easily (after downloading the patch) and offers the quickest, most compatable options (direct output to avi/mpeg). Capture is instantaneous (as is cpaturing from most DV camcorders). However, the quality is also somewhat pixellated and the playback is jerky in moving areas. I have not tried Pinnacle.
2. No microphone input jack! It is hard to record a speaker's message if you are in crowds of people. If you have large hands, you may end up covering the bulit in mic and receive no sound at all.
3. Tiny Buttons! It is very difficult to zoom using the very tiny zoom button. Also, the record button is sticking out and you can accidently knock it.
4. Touch screen menu. If for any reason the touch screen is damaged, then it is dificult to command function of the camcorder.

If you are not into Computer editing or emailing video, then this camera deserves a "5 Star Rating". However, considering that I bought the camera with the intentions of editing, I have to say that I am a little upset with the finished quality.

4-0 out of 5 stars DCR-IP220 - Good ergonomics, but unproven tape format
Pros: Small size. Good ergonomics. Screen on back. Still photos. Compact tapes & batteries.

Cons: Expensive. MicroMV format may or may not equal MiniDV. Lens could be more wide-angle.

I found the camera easy to carry, though I kind of wish it had a neck strap. I think the size is about right - not too small to handle, but still very easy to carry. One complaint/frustration was that its lense doesn't seem to be as wide-angle as I'm used to - trying to tape inside buildings, etc. I found myself constantly backing into corners and still cutting people off at the waist, etc. - I may have to look into getting a wide-angle lense for this. Of course, I was trying to tape inside 150 year old houses with small rooms, so that didn't help. As for video and still quality, all I can say is that they look fine to me - I watched for pixelization or other artifacts reported as being problems with MicroMV, but haven't noticed any even in dark areas. I will say that experimenting with the night shot and super night shot, I don't see much use for them - I could hardly distinguish what I recorded in these modes. I was impressed by the ability of the still camera and flash to take decent photos of buildings from around 50 feet away in near total darkness. I didn't expect the flash to work at such a distance, but the photos came out quite well. One reason I selected this camera was that I thought it was better designend for use in underwater housings than the PC120BT I was also considering - primarily because the screen is on the back rather than flipping out to the side (which requires a much larger housing, or not using the screen). I didn't get a chance to try the camera in an underwater housing on this trip, but I still think the design will lend itself to this application. Ergonomically I prefer the IP220, but I have lingering questions about whether I sacrificed video quality by going with this model. But that's based on others's comments on previous MicroMV camcorders - not on any problems I've seen with my own camera or video. I haven't yet loaded video or stills onto my PC for editing, so I can't comment on that.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good camcorder except...
I bought my IP220 two weeks ago. The unit is fairly compact and light which I carry to places with ease.

The pros:
1. Video quality is excellent, same for the recorded sound qulity which is crystal clear
2. Swivel LCD panel is very easy to use and innovative
3. Touch screen feature works well and is pretty user-friendly
4. The set sits perfectly in the palm and the finger position also fits very nicely with the zoom lever, photo button and record button

The cons:
1. Even with 2.1 Mega pixels CCD, IP220 does not provide the kind of picture quality as other Sony digital cameras (like DSC-70), especially at 1600x1200 resolution
2. The MicroMV to MPEG2 conversion through movie shaker 3.1 (MPEG2-TS)is incompatible with the regular DVD standard (MPEG2-PS), therefore, it is impossible to burn DVD for regular DVD player use without converting it through a third-party software (e.g. pinnacle studio 8)

I would recomment this unit to those who care more about the video quality than photo quality. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
I purchased IOGEAR's Bluetooth Headset a bit skeptical of the quality because the price was so affordable.I mean come on for 30 some bucks what could you expect right? When it arrived I charged it up, and had it paired with my phone within minutes. I couldn't believe how easy it was. The sound quality is very good both from the listners and my end. The most impressive thing is the battery life. It's awesome!I can use it for over a week between charges. I highly recommend this device to everyone!

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Bluetooth Headset Ever!
I found a good deal for these on the web so I bought three (gifts etc).Wow! What crap! First box was missing parts PLUS was defective.Second box had parts but after you "hang up" the devices then disconnects bluetooth. So you would have to go back to your phone and then reconnect.Kinda defeats the purpose of bluetooth don't you think?Haven't opened/tested the third one.Spend your money on a better unit. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth it. Spend the money and get something better
I bought this mouse for my new Dell Inspirion 9200. I loved the small size and got used to it quikly. It conencted just fine and worked great for the first few days.I made sure to charge it when the light told me to.But after the third day, I would use it and all os a sudden it would lose its connection. I would have to reconnect and then after a few minutes or half hour, it would die again. I thought it was the batteries, but it wasn't. I returned it and bought A logitech MX900. WORKS WONDERFULLY!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not fully compatible with Mac OS 10.3.9
this bluetooth mouse would be great if it worked flawlessly with Bluetooth built into a Mac with OS 10.3.9 even though the manufacturer advertises that it is "compatible with Mac OS 10.3.5 or higher", but THIS STATEMENT IS FALSE at least as of May 11, 2005. One has to turn off the Authentication check box in the bluetooth setup icon in sys preferences and then it will reappear after a screen saver causes it to lose connection or if it is powered down and powered up. You can then turn on authentication and the IOGear mouse will stay connected for a while but if you lose the connection again for any reason, and there are many, it will not reappear unless you set it up all over again or just go and uncheck the Authentication box again and then recheck it. This is a major headache. The reason this is happening is that it does NOT pair properly. Using the OS setup assistant, it appears to PAIR but when you go to the BlueTooth icon after the setup, i.e. in System Preferences, and check the Devices tab, you'll see that it is indeed NOT paired. If this one problem were fixed, the mouse would be GREAT, but unfortunately, I have to give it only ONE star for a Mac, hoping that either the company or Apple's new Tiger OS will work with it. The manual needs updatinga bit too, i.e. for the Mac OS. Otherwise, the hardware and design appear great if you don't mind the size (many have complained about its size). Personally, I like its size, but I cannot recommend it for Macs at this time due to the inability to properly pair or even work unless you turn off authentication, which defeats the purpose for BlueTooth security especially if you have other bluetoth devices. Also, the manual wrongly tells the consumer to turn the computer on and set it for being "discovered" but that is totally unnecssary. I contacted IOGear and they agreed with me and also the engineers confirmed everything I have said above and reproduced the problems noted above on their own PowerBook 15" running OS 10.3.9.

If Tiger proves to PAIR with this device and removes the problems above, I'd give it a high rating.I won't get Tiger for another 3 days and IOGear didn't have the OS to test either. So for now, it gets ONE STAR FOR A MAC and that's being generous. Someone at IOGear needs to read this review. If it proves to have the same problem after I install Tiger, it goes back to the vendor for a refund and I'll try the RadTech BT510 which although a bit larger, has USB AND BlueTooth functionality. The IOGear's USB connection is only for charging and does not hook the mouse up to the machine for working via USB---you can verify this if you simply turn BlueTooth off and try to use the mouse with only the USB cable---you cannot--the USB is ONLY used for charging the batteries. Alternatively, the RadTech BT510 appears to function in both modes, but it's a little larger. It might prove to be a better product for laptop and desktop Macs than the IOGear GME225B mini-mouse; however, I have not tested the RadTech yet.

3-0 out of 5 stars Way too small...
The mouse works fine.No problem with the Bluetooth connection.

The big problem is that it is WAYYYY too small. It's hard to tell until you see it and even then you can't really tell until your hand is on it and you start to actually use it.The pics that were posted by a helpful user should have told me, but.... I just had to try it (doh!)My hands are just the average size and it was still a problem.I actually thought that since this is for my wife to use with her laptop it would be fine. After all, her hands are small.Nah!Buy this for your 5 year old or something, but other than that, I would wait.If you DO buy it, be prepared for the poor ergonomic. You will use this mouse with just your finger tip.You then might as well use that little touch pad on your laptop!

3-0 out of 5 stars Recharging is my main issue
On my previous laptop I used a wireless mouse with an antenna unit that plugged into the USB port.My new laptop has the USB ports on the right side, so the huge antenna unit would sit right where I want to place a mouse... a great excuse to upgrade with more modern technology. The new laptop also has Bluetooth built in, so I bought the Iogear Bluetooth mini mouse about a month ago through Amazon.

The mouse is small (the length of my middle finger), so my wrist rests on the desk when I use it.The sides of the mini mouse are sculpted to allow gripping between thumb and ring+little fingers. The buttons are a bit stiffer than most other mice. The small size and light weight help, but overall I find that using this mouse requires a bit more effort than my old Logitech wireless mouse.Perhaps the extra exercise is a good thing considering how much time I spend working at the computer.

Battery charging:As noted by others, the Iogear mini mouse comes with low capacity (600 mAh) rechargable batteries.A full charge lasts me about 2-3 days. When the mouse stops responding (your signal to recharge), even plugging in the USB charging cable does not restore use... I have to wait a bit until it builds up enough charge to restore communication. And then the USB connector is in the way.Fortunately, the USB connector is small and doesn't get in the way much.Usually, I can't stop, so end up connecting another mouse while the mini mouse charges.I also don't want to leave the computer plugged in overnight just so the mini mouse can recharge through the USB port (not good to overcharge laptop batteries -- shortens their life).

How to charge the Iogear mini mouse as quickly as possible? The manual -- written in Chinglish -- is a bit unclear on that point. Here is the question I submitted to Iogear tech support exactly 1 month ago (still waiting for a response...):

Recharging question:Will the batteries recharge with the mouse OFF, but connected to an active USB port?If yes, will they recharge faster than with the mouse ON?
Manual, p.8: "... 4. Make sure the power On/Off switch is at ON position. ... 5. To charge the batteries, just plug the USB charger cable into the USB port on you (sic) computer, and the mouse, and leave it on."
Manual, p.18: "... Just plug the USB charger cable into the USB port on your computer, and the mouse, and leave it on for a few hours. You don't need to turn off the power, and you can use the mouse when it is charging the batteries."
I don't need to turn off the power, but CAN I?Will it still charge? And charge faster??

USB charging just isn't working for me.My conclusion after 1 month of use is that I need to get:
1) 2 sets of higher capacity rechargable batteries
2) a charger that plugs into an outlet so I can recharge a set of batteries while I continue working.

When I travel I will have to carry enough batteries for the trip OR buy disposables as needed OR lug along the charger OR make do with the USB charger.

Overall, the Iogear mini mouse is satisfactory for road warrior laptop use, but has room for improvements.

>> Update after 2 months of use:
I got a battery charger (Ultralast Rapid Smart Charger) and my charging problems are over!Charging now takes much less time and a light tells me when charging is complete. The batteries now seem to last much longer, making me think my mouse might not be charging properly through the USB cable.Never did get a reply to my charging question from Iogear.I would give this mouse 4 stars if I could be sure the USB charging problem I experienced was an unusual defect.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good performance, comfortable for its size
I bought this mouse for use with a PowerBook G4, which has built-in Bluetooth, and it works great. After putting in the batteries, turning on the mouse, and selecting a menu command, the PowerBook detected the mouse right away and started its wizard to walk through the rest of the configuration. And that was all before charging the batteries fully.

The mouse is narrower and longer than other mini mice I've seen, but I find it quite comfortable, even with big hands. I think this is because I can hold the mouse further towards the back end and have my fingers positioned nearly the same as with my full-size desktop mouse.

Before buying the mouse, I was concerned as to how the scroll wheel would feel. I've had other mice with scroll wheels that were too stiff, too loose, too low, etc. I was happy to find none of these problems; the scroll wheel has a nice smooth movement.

I haven't seen any of the jerky or laggy behavior I've read that some users have had with other Bluetooth mice. The only lag time is on initial startup when the computer awakens and needs to re-find the mouse, but that's a lag that I expect to occur.

Although I've only had the mouse about a week and a half, battery life of the included NiMH batteries seems good; I'm still on the first overnight charge. I also like having a USB charging cable instead of a bulky cradle. And in a pinch, standard AAA batteries can be used. ... Read more

Warning for Dell Axim owners - this unit will not connect to Dell Axim's through bluetooth. The software is good enough for the price - it's just like the iGuidance or Routis product.IOGear's web site also states the product is not compatible with Pocket PC's running Windows Mobile 2003!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great BT GPS and Software Combo...
This combo has very decent software to compliment a LiIon battery powered BT receiver (22 hrs per charge). The software is by Deluo (iGuidance is another known name for it) and is up to date as of 2004.The interface is seamless, the installtion a breeze, and the receiver reception fast (15-20secs).At $180 here at Amazon, with an additional $30 off rebate untill August 2005, you cannot go wrong (plus you have iogear to support this vs. some no-name comany).

The GPS receiver I found also works with Maptech's topographical GPS Maps ($20) if you want to use it on your offroad adventures.Recently took it on a 3 day hunting trip and Maptech's software did wonderfully in the great wilderness... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars So cool...
I ordered the h1940 on Amazon with free shipping and it arrived the next day! (The website said it will take 5-9 business days...). I've had it for 3 weeks now, and I must say this is quite a piece. I shopped around in stores, and this was the smallest handheld device on the market. It works great with my desktop PC, and keeps me very organized. Now that I'm so organized, I don't know what to do with all this free time I discovered I have, so I'm here writing reviews...

It doesn't come with a case or a cover, so you'll have to find one or risk damaging your display screen. I got the Belkin leather case designed for this model for $11. If you're interested in upgrading to Wi-fi, you can get the SD (Secure Digital) Wi-Fi card for about $90-100.

Update: I'm reducing the ratings to 4 stars because of the following: I mentioned earlier that you can go wifi by adding an SD wifi card for $90. I discovered later that the iPAQ H4155 already has built-in wifi and it only cost $400. In addition the H4155 has a 400mhz processor. If you are interested in wifi connectivity I would recommend you buy the H4155 instead of this one. I wanted to save money so I obstained from the h4155, but now I wish I had bought that one instead of this one. Not that this pocket PC isn't good, in fact it's great. But if you want wifi this isn't the right choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful Machine in a Tiny Package
Had the 1940 but, with the addition of integrated Bluetooth wireless communication and a faster processor, the h1940 is what I really needed. So much power in a machine that weighs just 4.37 ounces and is very small (4.46 x 2.75 x 0.5 in). Also like the upgrade to Microsoft® Windows® Pocket PC 2003 Professional that is included. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Had a bad case of PPC envy - but going back to Palm OS
I've been a long time Palm user starting with a Pro and owning 6 or 7 since, most recently an M515. The screen was what first attracted me to this unit plus the wireless network, well, it 'sort of' worked for a month, but I've had enough. This unit seems like it would be a good idea, but isn't. Installation and initial sync went very smooth, but that was only the beginning.
DAY 1: First day carrying it, it locked up solidly - it wouldn't turn off or soft reset, I didn't have the CD w/the manual on it (bad idea) with me, so I didn't know how to hard reset. I tried taking the battery off, but the unit just came back on (in it's locked up state) when the battery was reinstalled - so I just let it die. I spent that evening getting it running again and trying to get the wireless networking to connect to my Linksys WAP11. After fiddling way too much, I finally got my mail and MSN Messenger to work, but not the browser. Finally I called HP's support site and was warned that any help he gave me was on a 'best try only' basis - no promises - we couldn't get the thing to work.
DAY 2: I left the wireless networking enabled and went to work - the battery was completely dead by Noon - with wireless enabled the battery seems to have a painfully short life. So I spent that evening restoring it again. I went to HP's website and found an external battery ...

Perfect huh? - Ordered this puppy immediately - only to find it only works with the expansion pack which adds expansion slots, but also a LOT of bulk - just to have a reasonable battery life? I called HP to return it and the agent sent me to the parts department for a second battery to carry. .... he assured me that I didn't have the skills to replace the battery. I told him that it just had a little latch on it and it flipped out and I was quite sure I could handle it. He replied that the case was sealed and that no one but HP was authorized to open it. I told him that tech support had asked me to remove the battery to retrieve the serial number from the label under it and didn't see the problem with removing it. He was then VERY annoyed, told me that I didn't know what I was talking about, and hung up. I figured that there will be higher capacity batteries in the aftermarket soon.

Now it's over 3 weeks later and although I haven't missed any meetings or anything because this thing failed me, I've come close, and instead of just grabbing my Palm and using it without giving it any thought, I find myself reaching for it and wondering if it's going to work. I finally decided I've had enough. I picked out one of the new [brand name] Palm OS units w/MP3 and ordered it. I then decided to call HP and see if they would consider a return for a one month old order - they did so without hesitation - they looked at their records and saw that I had several tech support contacts on it, appologized that it didn't work out and even sent FedEx with a pickup tag.

The Palm is by far a better platform for simple organizer tasks, but the PPC 'horsepower' is great when using spreadsheets and the like - I thought I could have both.

...

4-0 out of 5 stars Great when you get past the manuals,...
This product works as advertised, but the manuals are useless and so is technical support. Managed to get wi-fi working without too much trouble - if you have wireless for your pc it's the same setup. Had to do a hard reset once and couldn't restart wi-fi, called technical support and their knowledge of what to do was non-existent...finally quoted their manual to them! Bluetooth works well as well, but setting it up is difficult if you try to use their manuals. Called tech-support, they tried a few things, then claimed it was a documented problem with Nokia, so I should call them! Called Nokia and they were just as bad/wrong! Finally resolved ALL problems by going to t-mobile web site where they have a configuration site that show how to link a wide randge of pda's to a wide range of phones - worked first time using their info.

When you get it working, you WILL love it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Value/Powerful Pocket PC
These guys who are palm lovers just have a hard time switching to the Pocket PC! I am a switcher. The transition was tough at first back a couple of years ago. The Palm OS is surely faster and more user friendly but has much less to offer. This IPAQ is a powerful one and the screen quality, handwritting recognition and wifi options are unmatched by any Palm device. I have not found much use yet for the Bluetooth and the security features are good but I don't know that I need them. Still, what a great tool for word processing, spreadsheets, web surfing and more. Lighten up Palm boy!

2-0 out of 5 stars Big problems for the $$ - otherwise it could be great.
I purchased the iPaq 5455 one year ago, directly from HP when it first hit the market, paying $649 plus $200 for a 3 year top of the line warranty. I have had several problems with the unit. Starting with the display on the unit going out only after a month or two of receiving it. The next problem was with the battery loosing its charge. Most recently, I have been having the recurring problem of the unit locking up not powering on. And like others, I have never been able to sync my info wirelessly.

I have placed several calls to tech support. I have troubleshooted the unit while on the phone with them and even sent the unit in for repair a month ago, in which I did not get a replacement unit, although my extended warranty states that I should. I received the unit back from repair and the documentation stated that no parts were replaced. Knowing that I definitely had a problem with the unit, I called tech support to see what was repaired. I was told a big lie that the battery was changed and the ENC part was replaced. Looking at my unit now, I see that it is the same battery that I had when I sent it in for repair.

Thinking that all was fixed with my unit, I downloaded all of my information. The next day I experienced the same problem with the unit not powering on with the power button. I placed another call to tech support in which the tech and myself troubleshooted the unit. The tech told me to hard boot my unit which erased all of my data. I was told not to install the one 3rd party software that I had installed to monitor the situation. I once again reinstalled my information without the 3rd party software. Again, my unit would not power on. Again, I called tech support and angrily described my situation.

Finally, the tech tells me that I will be sent a REFURBISHED unit. I received the refurbished unit two days ago and encountered the same problem once I loaded all of my data on to it. HP tech support has you to hard reset the unit to erase all data, which appears to make the unit work properly, but once the data is loaded, the problems begin. Today I called tech support and told them I am returning the refurbished replacement unit and keeping my original to see what their customer care department does to satisfy me.

I purchased the unit because I felt it would be an asset to my busy professional life, but it has been nothing but a hassle. I have sent several email complaints to HP customer support and finally to the CEO Carly Fiorina. I got a reply email from her address stating that someone would be in contact with me.

Each call and every email, I have gotten the same script of "we apologize for your inconvenience". The tech support department located in India is very unhelpful and they speak to you as if you were an idiot.

The unit has some slick features, but right now I am very dissatisfied and frustrated.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not good
I got the HP5455 2 months ago. The battery life is horrible, interface is awkward, and form-factor too large.... After dealing with the thing for 2 months, I've spent another $500 to replace it with a new palm (which I love). Stay away from the HP5455. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Featuring a compact, vertically aligned body to go along with its potent 10x optical zoom, the DCR-IP7BT is the first of two camcorders featuring the unique new recording format MicroMV, which records using the same format used to encode DVDs: MPEG-2.

Lens and CCD
The two central components of any video camera (or digital still camera), are its lens and CCD (the image sensor). This Sony model builds around a 10x optical zoom, which is paired with Super SteadyShot image stabilization to cut down on the shakes and jitters common to most amateur video footage. The CCD sports a pixel count of 680,000 pixels--great for video--that translates the image into around 500 lines of resolution.

Size
The size of the DCR-IP7BT is actually one of the features that Sony is really excited about, and it's easy to understand why. The device is extraordinarily small; it's somewhere on the order of a half-inch to an inch smaller in its dimensions than comparable models. That's quite a hefty reduction, making the IP7BT small enough to fit in a pocket. Because of the small size of the camcorder, its 2.5-inch LCD becomes comparatively larger than it would otherwise be.

Digital Photo Mode
Like many digital camcorders, the IP7BT features a digital still mode. And, like many digital camcorders, the snapshot mode is good for taking stills that can be e-mailed or posted on a Web site, but not for making high-quality prints.

Bluetooth
Bluetooth has been a talked-about wireless protocol for years, but it's only recently started to gather steam in the electronics world. Sony is leading the pack by incorporating Bluetooth networking into the DCR-IP7BT. The connectivity standard allows you to transfer your still images, or any of the short MPEG movie clips you record to the Memory Stick, to any Bluetooth-equipped computer.

Cables and Connectors
Despite the small size of the IP7BT, there are a number of audio and video inputs and outputs, making it a very flexible and capable machine. Most intriguingly, besides S-video, there are also composite video in/outputs--composite video provides the highest level of quality in home-theater setups. Four audio, stereo in/outputs are included. In addition, to transfer your digital stills and MPEG movies, a USB port is included. Of course, in any digital camcorder, you should expect to find an IEEE 1394 port, also known as FireWire or iLink, which the IP7BT provides.

Included with the DCR-IP7BT are the Bluetooth adapter, a USB cable, an 8 MB Memory Stick, a wireless remote, an AC-L20 power adapter, an NP-FF50 InfoLithium battery, two AA batteries, iLink Cable (four-pin to four-pin), AV cable, lens cap, wrist strap, and a software CD-ROM (software is Windows only). ... 4-0 out of 5 stars ultraportable, still capture, but microMV is not for all
the dcrip7BT is for the early adopters among us. it has "wow" written all over it but make sure you're ready for the limitations of the microMV format. it improves on the ip5 by adding still capability and bluetooth.

pros:
- small size, and lightweight: 1.88"W x 4.0"H x 3.13"L weighing 12 oz. this is the main selling point of this camcorder.
- 10x optical zoom.
- Super SteadyShot image stabilization - and sony's system works.
- delivers vibrant colors when shooting in daylight.
- still photo capability (low res only).
- connectivity options: firewire, S-video, composite, bluetooth, USB.

cons:
- microMV format is proprietary and may go the way of betamax.
- microMV video quality is noticeably worse than MiniDV.
- microMV also uses a different data-compression scheme than MiniDV, which means that it may be incompatible with your DV-editing software.
- low-res still photo capability suitable only for email or posting on web.
- no video light.
- not Mac compatible.
- very bad ergonomics - a small camcorder will have small buttons and consolidated controls.
- as with most sony products, you pay a premium, pushing up the price.
- battery life could be better.
- only 2.5" LCD.
- non-intuitive menu system.
- no headphone or mic input jack.
- no accessory shoe.

given the limitations of the microMV format, a smaller camcorder is the only reason to use it. and a tiny camcorder is what sony has delivered and that's why this is a four star product for me. but if you can stand a slightly bigger camcorder, check out other miniDV options. these are more affordable, better supported, and almost as portable.

i hope this helps your buying decision. peace.

4-0 out of 5 stars You can't beat this camcorder for portability!
You can't beat this camera for portability! I have owned this camera for almost a year now and have been pleased with its performance. I chose to buy this camera for its small size because I was going on a trip to Europe with my best friend. I kept this camera close at hand in my purse the whole time. It was great to be able to take out this camera and record at the drop of a hat!

I had traveled to Europe before with another friend and he took a normal sized camcorder. When I travel to Europe, I don't like to stick out as a tourist and I was constantly embarrassed when he would take out his regular camcorder and take video because it was so obvious that we were tourists.

With my Sony DCR-IP7BT on my most recent Europe trip, I was able to take tons of video without anyone noticing! When people did notice that I had a camera out, they thought it was only a still camera because it was so small.

I have used the video editing software with much success. :) Granted, it takes a while to edit your video, but it is so simple and there are so many effects you can add, I don't think the average person will be disappointed. I have edited our vacation video and really enjoyed being able to do the editing on my laptop computer and adding in the special effects.

I have really enjoyed owning this small camcorder. It was so useful and I will never again take a normal sized camcorder on vacation. I'm sure you could get better video and still picture resolution on another camera; but because this camera is so delightfully compact, I can't complain.

This camera is perfect for someone who is concered about size and portability. It is not cheap, but I have no regrets when I watch video of priceless memories from my trip to Europe.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great idea - horrible implementation
Pros: Incredible small size; can literally be carried in your pocket;

Cons: Video quality mediocre at best (740x320); transferring data files from IP7 to PC has been a nightmare. Literally 25-30 hours of work with varying degrees of usefull tech support (Sony drops the ball on this one) - Formats available are MPG1 and a form of MPG2 called TR - File must then be translated- this is explained in the following website http://134.102.55.200/haupt/SonyIP7_to_MPEG2-PS.htm

In summary, I would wait at least another year or two, when the kinks have been knocked out. This leaves to much to be desired.

1-0 out of 5 stars Nightmare
Doesn't work with my MAC. Nightmare trying to download on PC. Sometimes works w/ an i.Link port on a Sony computer. Now it doesnt' even do that. Sometimes worked on a 3rd party FireWire card for my PC, but I had to pull card out and re-install everytime to try to get it to capture. Now that doesn't even work. MPEG2 bites, must convert w/ DOS program. MovieShaker is the worst. I hate this camera w/ a passion. I'm going to throw mine ($$$$!) away or sell it on [other online site]. Anybody want mine? I'm going to get one that plugs directly into my iMac.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great convenience
So many capabilities and image quality in such a tiny device is unbelievable. Incredible. And on top of it, the usual connectivity and user-friendliness of all Sony electronics (the bluetooth technology is not that relevant but a fun extra gadget) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best PDA I've Owned
I've owned way too many PDAs, and have come to several conclusions:

1 Palm OS excells,
2. HP iPaqs are a disaster,and
3. SONY exceeded my expectations.

Unless you need Wi-Fi, it's not worth it.

This is by far the most feature filled unit that is on the market. It's size and features will address just about any need you may have.

Keyboard is comfortable, and bundled software is great to show off the features. You'll be hard pressed to get over the novelty of this wonderful machine. You won't be sorry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best PDA out there (not including UX50)
I have had several PDAs, and this is by far the best. I got it mainly for the built-in keyboard and high-res screen, but it is the total package. I sold my Dell Axim which was quite good to get the UX40 and I don't miss it at all.

Pros:
- Super compact
- Loaded with features
- Bluetooth built-in
- Great screen
- Keyboard is very convenient
- Multimedia
- Fast
- Super cool and well made

Cons:
- Battery life not great, but OK
- Kind of pricey
- Camera good only for low res pics

- Landscape screen only (not a big deal to me)

Buy it - you know you want it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy it if you have the money!
Size, WiFi and Bluetooth, video playback, design. This unit is amazing. It arrived monday (one week early) and exceeded expectations. It is smaller than I expected. Set-up was simple...within minutes of taking it out of the box I was surfing the web via Bluetooth. The screen looks great, though a bit too small. Web browsing is very cool, but you dont want to spend alot of time online as the screen is very small. Email app works great. MP3 player is stereo which is awesome. You can listen to MP3's while browsing the web and transfering MP3s to a memory stick is a breeze. I transfered over 50 MP3s in a few minutes to a 256MB Pro stick. The design is great, looks very sexy as is very small. Smaller than most PDA's on the market. The onboard camera is descent, but should have been better. In movie mode it records 15fps not 30fps. The video player though, plays back awesome 30fps MP4 video....looks GREAT!!! This is one of the UX40's best features.

3-0 out of 5 stars Love at first glance, but then...
I love it the first time I saw it, using the excelent services of Amazon.com I have it in my hands in couple of days.
I changed from a nice Hp 1945 Pocket PC to Sony UX-40, but I'm not sure if was a wise idea:

1. The screen is too small to have a comfortable sight
2. Keyboard is nice in size but I don't like the feeling of the keys.
3. It's not cheap, and the software provided is very limited, if you want to use the other software provided, you have to pay.
4. Quality of photos is low

5. You have to carry the cradle if you want to charge it in your car with the proper adapter.

Very nice looking device but maybe is oriented to a younger market (but the price is not oriented to it)

I will give it a couple of weeks, if not convinced, maybe my wife can give me back the Ipaq 1945 ... Read more

34. Sony DCRTRV70 MiniDV 2MP Camcorder with 2.5"LCD, Memory Stick, and Networking Capability

Asin: B000087LII

Manufacturer: Sony
Sales Rank: 2613
Average Customer Review: 4.8 out of 5 stars

Amazon.com Product Description

Now that MiniDV has become a mainstream product, users demand extra features in addition to regular digital video performance. The Sony DCR-TRV70 is well equipped with technological additions, such as a 2-megapixel digital camera and networking capabilities. The camcorder also features a 10x optical zoom, 16:9 widescreen mode, a 2.5-inch LCD with touchscreen control, and a color viewfinder.

Step-up Value
Here are two Sony features that adds value to this digital camcorder and differentiate it from other models in the Sony lineup.

product image 2.0 Megapixel Sensor: Of all the world's consumer camcorders, Sony was the first to break the megapixel barrier. Working with high-resolution recording and high-precision Sony custom optics, the benefits are dramatic. You'll see amazing detail on everything you shoot. Every blade of grass. Every strand of hair. The names on the back of player uniforms. And megapixel resolution is also a great benefit in Sony's Digital still camera function (Memory Mode). You'll be able to shoot images at 1600 x 1200 pixels, for prints up to 8 x 10nches.
product image Digital Still Memory Mode: Capture digital still images directly onto Memory Stick media for easy transfer to e-mail, printing, or sharing with compatible Memory Stick devices. Digital still images can be captured while in Memory Mode, or images from the videotape can be captured onto Memory Stick media. This feature provides the Dual Function of having one camera for video and still images, and provides the user with a whole new world of imaging possibilities.

Image Stabilization
Sony's SteadyShot picture stabilization keeps your images smooth and steady without degrading picture quality. The technology uses motion sensors, which tend to be more accurate than most other systems used in the camcorder market.

Optics
The multicoated Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar lens ensures balanced and clear contrast. The advanced HAD CCD sensor records images accurately in vibrant color and sharp resolution. The TRV70 has a robust 10x optical zoom that fits most purposes, but for extra distance the camera can reach 120x through the digital zoom. A hologram autofocus system and several autoexposure modes allow for automatic operation--while achieving ideal images for the situation.

More Features
You can record video in low- to no-light situations with Sony's NightShot system, which uses infrared light to capture images invisible to the human eye. With the function on, subjects up to 10 feet away can be seen in total darkness. You can also use the color slow shutter for color night shots instead of the regular green night-shot hue.

Sony's Stamina power management system and InfoLithium battery give the TRV70 a long operating time. To keep you informed of current battery life, Sony's AccuPower meter displays the number of minutes remaining right in the viewfinder.

You can take digital stills and record small MPEG EX movies using the included 8 MB Memory Stick. This is where the 2-megapixel resolution CCD really shines, creating images that can be printed at sizes of up to 1,600 x 1,200 pixels for prints up to 8 by 10 inches. The intelligent pop-up flash keeps your images well-lit and visible.

The TRV70 features a 2.5-inch color LCD and a color viewfinder. The menu is accessed via a touchscreen display on the LCD, reducing the clutter of buttons on the camera. A stylus is also included for ease of use.

The USB streaming feature can turn the TRV70 into a video-conferencing tool or a Webcam, and the standard IEEE 1394 connection can be used for digital video editing on a computer. The TRV70 is network-capable and can connect to the Internet with a USB-PSTN adapter.

MiniDV Format
MiniDV is the preferred format for personal and broadcast-quality video, highly regarded for its high audio and image quality. With up to 540 lines of horizontal resolution and minimum color noise, MiniDV delivers a 20 percent clearer picture than analog camcorder formats. This is all delivered on a cassette that's 1/12th the size of a standard VHS tape. A MiniDV tape offers digital recording time of 2 full hours--20 times the capacity of a CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome camera - worth the $$$$ spent
Spend a lot, get a lot more. Although it was a tough choice to spend the money when I purchased my TRV70, I have no regrets. My camera is DA BEST!. After I figured out the Still Picture recording is best taken when not recording video simultaneously, I never looked back. There are so many features to mention but I don't use. The key things to consider:
- Bigger lens, means better image
- Good size CCD is a treasure; otherwise 3 CCD is next option
- Manual focus override; in photography, this is VERY important
- Backlight control; it's a great override in low light conditions like opening up your camera aperature
- Manual disable of on-board flash; continue taking pictures when flash is not allowed
- Touch screen LCD is sweet, don't listen to button fanatics
- Steady Shot works.... when camera is light, more chances of jarring movements, so here its really important.
- Memory stick convenience ... buy larger capacity, more over time.
- Battery Status; Info-lithium means no guessing game. By several small batteries, charge them, and carry them a-l-a Rambo.
- Don't install Imagemixer software. Instead, use Sony's Screenblast Movie Studio 3.0. You'll be happier.
- Don't skimp on footage. Take lots of footage. It's easier to edit, than to say... I don't have enough!

It's unfortunate, Sony is discontinuing the product in 2004. It's a great product! I'm ready to buy a second one so I can get the same footage from another vantage point. Silly, two people using different cameras. :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars great video, plus 2MP stills pics!
this is a power packed camcorder!
pros:
- other than the sony trv80, this is the only sony miniDV camcorder that has a 2 megapixel still camera built in.
- miniDV media is widely supported.
- great connectivity options: firewire, USB, S-video, headphone, bluetooth, mic input, etc.
- has a built in pop-up flash for taking stills.
- carl zeiss lens.
- steady shot and night shot.
- ability to record mpeg videos directly to memory stick.
- progressive shutter system.

cons:
- this camcorder is bigger than i would like. you can get smaller camcorders like the trv33 or the pc105. granted, those have less features, mainly still camera capability (2.0 megapixel vs 1.0 megapixel).
- bright 2.5" LCD screen: but i definitely prefer the 3.5" in the trv80.
- as an alternate to this bundling strategy, you can get a trv33 or pc105 and get a 3 megapixel still camera for about the same price.
- no built in video light but you can get one less than a hundred bucks.

all in all, a very nice camcorder. nice work sony.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great video in all outdoor lighting conditions
This is my fourth camcorder, and first digital camcorder. I bought it to record my child's soccer games to make a DVD to send to college coaches. It recorded steady sharp video in all lighting conditions, including heavy overcast, light fog, and night games under stadium lights. I also bought the remote controll tripod, which makes it much easier to start/stop recording and adjust the zoom (the remote control zoom buttons have the correct sensitivity, as opposed to the camera zoom control as noted in a review below). The only problem I had that caused the loss of a few minutes of video was that the camcorder started displaying "Cleaning Tape". I packed the tape (fast forward to the end and rewound) and recorded over the bad section. I now pack the tape again whenever I insert a new one in the camcorder

4-0 out of 5 stars Better than others, but needs accessories to be great
I did a lot of research before purchasing this camera a year ago. But I've used it A LOT since then and figured I would write a review.

I did comparison tests with this camera vs. Sony's other lower end camcorders. The color and resolution on this one if FAR superior and worth the extra money. I also compared it to the Canon GL2, a 3-CCD camera. The 3-CCD camera was far better in low light and color, but comes with a much heaftier price tag.

The good things about this camera have been mentioned by others. And while it may not fit in your palm exactly, it is really not very big. It looks good, and all the features are easy to find. Overall good design.

There are three things about this camcorder I don't like, but here's what I recommend to solve them:

The lens always looks like you can't zoom out enough. I'm sure there's a technical term for this, but even when you're zoomed out all the way it looks like your subject is too close. As soon as I realized this, I purchased a Sony wide angle lens, which made all the difference. Especially if you're indoors, you want to take in as much of the environment as possible. It does add size to the camera, and means you can't use the flash for still pictures without removing it. But it gives the camera a nice professional look and feel.

The second problem with this camera I've read about with other Sony camcorders: the "whirring" noise of the motor as it is taping. When I first got the camera I didn't notice it, but as time went on the whirr got worse. Also, there's a "hiss" that you get with any camcorder. I solved this by getting a Sony external microphone to attach to the "boot". ECM-MS5908C. It's a stereo microphone, and it's far enough from the motor that you hardly hear it, and also drowns out the hiss. I also got a shotgun mic, but that isn't stereo, so I wouldn't recommend it unless shooting subjects far away.

The other issue is unsolvable, and that's the "slider" zoom in. Instead of moving front to back with two fingers to zoom in, you slide left to right with one finger. It's hard to use, and over-sensitive. I do not understand why Sony sticks with that technology on their consumer models, but not with their 3-CCD professional models.

Overall, a great camera. I do not use the still camera function very often, so I can't comment on that. I use Final Cut Express for the Macintosh to edit, and everything works smoothly with this camera. (Also, if you plan to do any editting, you get a HIGH recommendation from me for Apple computers. Each Apple computer comes with iMovie, a free program that is SO EASY to use to edit video.)

You're obviously reading this because you want to know if this camera is right for you. Here's what I say: if you want better picture quality than other home videos you've seen, and are willing to pay for it, this camera is ideal. I highly recommend the wide angle lens and external stereo microphone, which help you make better videos but also add size to the machine. If you want to spend more to get an amazing, broadcast-quality picture, there's a big leap in cost for a 3-CCD camera. But the Sony DCRTRV70 is right in the middle, and is really a good choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars SONY DCR-TRV70
I have had this Camera for over a year now and found it to be reliable and its pictures of high quality. The Steady shot is rock solid and only jitters when you attempt >20 Zoom. The 120 zoom is grainy so I hardly use it. The memory stick for mpeg and still photos is very handy. The 2 megapixel resolution on the still photos is sufficient for computer display and small photo prints. It makes it convenient not to have to carry a second digital photo camera. I have not tried the Firewire link yet but the USB for memory stick operations works well.

Overall I am happy with the camera and recommend it for purchase. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars doesn't seem to work
I may have bought a lemon, but so far...

1) Neither iMac recognises it as anything.

2) A Windows XP system, after loading the software, sees an "unknown USB device" but can't decide what it is.

Various reinstalls of software have done nothing whatsoever.

I don't recommend it. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent mouse, but could use some updates
I purchased this mouse locally, since I needed a bluetooth adapter and wireless mouse. I was told it would work with my G4 Powerbook. It set up flawlessly and I had it working within 1 min with OS 10.3 (Panther).

I was impressed that the mouse set up so easily. The BT adapter also works with my Palm, but required a little more tinkering. While the left, right and scroll buttons worked fine, I was unable to program the other two buttons (Mac).

This mouse is rather large relative to most mice. Since there is no on-off switch, I am concerned about battery life (other reviews report short battery life) but haven't owned it long enough to know. If my Mac goes to sleep, the mouse won't wake it up, as it too is sleeping. Sometimes there is a lag in the mouse cursor, which is disconcerting coming from a wired mouse.

All in all, a decent product, but for its shortcomings, I'm not sure its worth $80. Maybe the next version will correct some of these faults.

Pros: bluetooth and wireless, ergonomic, includes BT adapter, works with Palm Tungsten PDA for synchronization, 3/5 buttons work with Mac.

Cons: a bit pricy ($79), rather large, no "off" switch, not rechargable, short lag in mouse movement, can't program 2/5 switches.

5-0 out of 5 stars LET ME SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT
I am a software developer and my mouse is my life. I decided after researching for hours on this mouse to buy it despite some of the negative reviews about battery life, sleep mode, and driver problems. I have had great luck with Microsoft mice and am a die hard on the feel of them.

I am here to say that this mouse is great. I have an IBM T40p laptop and it works flawlessly with the integrated bluetooth on the laptop. The Microsoft driver CD installation did want to remove the UltraNav drivers (IBM's touchpad drivers), which I do not know why, but after the installation I went back and reinstalled the UltraNav drivers and it works just fine. I can configure both devices with no problems.

Also, the battery life is so far so good. I have used my mouse non-stop for two days now and my battery life still shows good in the mouse configuration in the control panel. I did however buy re-chargable batteries so I do not have to spend the money over time.

And finally, this mouse does go to sleep after awhile of inactivity (around 30 seconds) but with one simple click it wakes right up and you do not even miss a beat! The trick is that you HAVE to click the button once. Moving the mouse does not wake it up.

The one thing that is missing on this mouse is the ability to turn it off. They need an on/off switch so that when you travel with it you do not need to take out the batteries. When the mouse is moved the optical turns on. They just need a simple switch to turn it off for travel. I will continue to remove the batteries to pack it. No big deal.

So with that I give this mouse a thumbs up and am very pleased with the feel and ergonomics. I did have to play with the speed of the pointer to refine it but other than that there have been no problems.

The one thing I have not tried is using the bluetooth adapter that came with the mouse so I do not have any input on how that works with the mouse or any other bluetooth devices.

AS FOR THE MOUSE - A++++++

5-0 out of 5 stars Dream product
The mouse feels extremely comfortable in your
hand and works great.

Since I have bluetooth integrated in my laptop, I
bypassed the supplied USB dongle, so NOTHING hangs off mycomputer. Truly wireless which is fantastic
for a machine with which to travel.

I've been using NiMH with the mouse with no problems. When I receive a warning about low battery power, I just swap them out for a charged pair.

These directions from an anonymous web user made
the installation a snap:
"1. Install the MS software from the CD.
2. Reboot when directed.
3. When directed to connect the MS transciever via the USB connection - Don't. Cancel and remove the CD.
4. Open the laptop's Bluetooth Module and let it discover the mouse.
5. Open the Mouse control panel and change it to your heart's content.
6. Works flawlessly"

5-0 out of 5 stars Works Great With Dell TrueMobile 300 Bluetooth
After ordering the mouse, I decided to read some of the reviews and was set back with the negative comments about not being compatible with the internal transmitters. In fact, upon receiving the device, I noticed on the box a warning to remove any installed transceiver and software before installing the mouse. In as much as I paid $50 extra for the internal transceiver and bought the mouse soley so I wouldn't have to have the transceiver hanging off my laptop, I was greatly dissappointed. I tried Dell Tech Support then Dell Wireless Support and was disappointed to find no one with any clue as to how to install the mouse. I finally decided to open the box and try it on my own.

To make a long story short:
1. Install the MS software from the CD.
2. Reboot when directed.
3. When directed to connect the MS transciever via the USB connection - Don't. Cancel and remove the CD.
4. Open the TrueMobile 300 Bluetooth Module and let it discover the mouse.
5. Open the Mouse control panel and change it to your heart's content.
6. Works flawlessly

I strongly disagree with the reviews claiming it is junk. I have only been using it for about two weeks, but so far no problems. My computer is a Dell D505 Latitude.

After a month - still works great.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dead batteries?
Don't make the mistake of buying NiMH batteries for this device. These batteries are designed for high load devices, i.e. you can take 1,000 pictures in a day with them, however they go dead in about a week even if their not connected in a device!!!!

My recomendation is to use Rayovac Renewal batteries, or some other rechargable Alkaline. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars works great
This adapter works very well compared to the Sony bluetooth adapter I tried (and returned). The Ambicom has good compatability between brands, and the software enables you to link easily with different services. There is even an option in the software to set up an ActiveSync connection, and a proxy internet connection for your PPC. Now my ipaq and vaio can sync easily without wires, using ActiveSync. In the setup, getting the COMport numbers correct can be a bit tricky -- it's important to pay attention to the steps in installation, and to consult your PDA manual. Also, I find I need to connect to ActiveSync (on the ipaq) through the bluetooth manager, which is easy, no problem. Once it's set up, it connects perfectly every time. A relief, after struggling with the Sony adapter and software -- and the Ambicom is half the price -- so I give this one 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works as promised! Installation a snap!
Having read some of the reviews for other Bluetooth adapters out there, I was a bit reluctant to get a product from a relatively unknown maker. I'm glad I gave it a chance!

I installed it on my home XP Pro (SP1) system on a USB 1.1 (powered) hub! It installed in minutes, and a couple of clicks after that, I was synchronizing my iPAQ 2215 via a bluetooth connection.

This item comes with short USB extension cable. I won't use it since I think it's safer to have the adapter securely plugged into my hub, but I do understand why some people may find it helpful. The adapter itself is very compact, and it doesn't take up more than its share of space on my hub, thus allowing me to use all the plugs next to it.

There are two versions of the latest software for this model, depending on your unit's serial number... Make sure to select the correct one if you download the latest drivers.

There isn't anything special about the design or looks of this small adapter, but so far it's worked perfectly for me. I don't know the exact distances but I've been able to connect my PDA from anywhere in my apartment.

I hope you have a similar experience to mine! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Range is not good indoors but advertises 100m (fball field!)
I bought this device to communicate from any room in my house with my tungsten|w (which has its own issues). The devices will only connect in the same room. There are no wi-fi solutions for this palm, so I'm stuck. Technology is letting me down. I'm becoming Amish.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy F8T030
Buyer beware this is a useless product, if you set a password it locks you out even if you use the password you set, you can still Telnet into it but have to return the unit to Belkin for exchange, as Belkin support do not know anything about Telnet.
Belkin are a rubbish company who provide unuseable support and customer service not availible.
I have never used such a bad company this is my first and last belkin product you can not even configure the first client IP it gives out, so is useless in a network enviroment.

Bad product, bad company, bad support, you have been warned.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works just fine
We had this AP in our office for some time now, and it works well (we are using a fixed IP address).

One caveat about the range:
This is a "Class 1" Bluetooth device with an output power of 100mW, which will indeed have a 100m range, but ONLY if the other device is also Class 1. All mobile devices (phones, PDAs) I know of are Class 2, with an output power of 2.5mW and a maximum free air range of 25m, effectively meaning "same room" indoors. Class 1 Bluetooth would drain the battery of a mobile device too fast. This one of the weaknesses of WiFi (30-100mW output power) - a WiFi card needs more power than a PocketPC (let alone a Palm) and will cut your battery time in half or less.

2-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for...
Yes, it is the best priced bluetooth access point out there but the product has a few flaws that perhaps are addressed with the more expensive ones (PicoBlue, etc).

1) It didn't detect my Netgear gateway/router DHCP. I had to manual set the IP address. I have read other reviews in which this was a problem.
2) My PDA could not detect the unit until I downloaded the flash update (no problem, just make sure you update the ROM). On the plus side, the unit makes updates very easy for the user.
3) They state 100M range which I guess you can get this in a huge open room but my house actually has walls, doors, multiple floors, etc thus in the REAL WORLD the range of this unit is horrible. By attaching the unit to a 25ft ethernet cable in my hallway (which kinda defeats the whole purpose of WIRELESS) I was then successful connecting from the next bedroom (about 15 feet away)

Besides, Bluetooth will not emerge in the wireless arena. Many PDA and phone makers have opted/changed to better wireless technologies (802.11b, wi-fi, etc) that address Bluetooth problems/limitations.

4-0 out of 5 stars Must have for bluetooth fans
This access point is an ideal low cost option for someone looking to eliminate the desktop wire clutter. The device has a very small form factor and features an Ethernet jack and two USB ports. It is a snap to set up, just plug it in and it finds your DHCP server without a problem. It has a strong radio (100 meters) and is very fast at processing print jobs as well as getting your Bluetooth enabled PDA onto the internet or syncing up with your computer. The only drawback is if you have a printer that will support multimedia cards like the HP Photosmart P1000, you can no longer access these cards through your computer. All things considered, if you are looking to get rid of the wire mess and put your PDA on your network, this is a great product. ... Read more
