Cleaning Suggestion
I dont have this model, but I have a larger Holmes Air purifier, and agree with the other reviews - they get themselves very dirty very quickly. I have found though, that if you put the front cover (the part hardest to clean) in the dishwasher & run it on a light cycle, it comes out perfect. Wiping the rest down with a cleaning cloth does the job as well. I wouldn't recommending buying a Holmes product, btu if you already have one, hopefully this cleaning tip will help.

Cleans, but too bad not itself as well..
It's affordable, does what it's supposed to (clean the air) but in the process gets itself filthy. It's almost impossible to clean, so unless you don't care about having a dirty appliance in the middle of your room all the time, I would suggest finding an easier to clean model. Also, the filter seems to get glogged up pretty fast.. maybe I just live in super dusty conditions or something, but plan on spending just as much on filters every 3-6 months as on the unit itself.

there are 2 major things wrong with this (and every?) holmes product i have been 'duped' into using. it is much like when you buy a printer, the initial unit is a mere downpayment for all the cartridges you'll need if you use it 'normally.' the holmes air purifiers i have been intermittently stuck with do help clean the air and thanks to the standardization of the hepa filter (and no thanks to holmes), work fairly well. the downside is they are extremely difficult to clean (i think i used an entire package of qtips) and you have to take the damned thing apart yourself to do so (hence i cleaned mine once and dumped it) if you like cleanliness, after using it a few months, once you look inside the thing you'll be prompted to do likewise. the reason it's popular seems attributable to one factor: it is cheap. seems like a good idea at the time. then u start buying the filters (approx $15 or more each) and attempting to maintain it and realize what a poorly thought out piece o' junk the actual unit really is. be smart, spend more and get an air cleaner from a company that cares whether or not the unit can be cleane (slantfin, bionaire, honeywell). hope this helps save others from a dirty business. ... Found a possible workaround for the constant resetting
We live in a very dry climate (Calgary, Alberta) and we have purchased many different warm mist humidifiers. It's always the same problem (the mineral build up on the heating element is hard to clean no matter what you do!). However, with this one, the heating element just wipes off and I only have to soak it in some vinegar once a week for a few minutes to remove a bit of build up that sticks to the element. I *do* like this heating element since it's extremely easy to clean.

We had the same "reset" problem as described above by other customers, and what we found is that when you plug it in (with a full tank of water), just start it on the LOW setting first, until the steam starts to come out, then you can put it on the HIGH setting (or leave it on LOW if you wish).

We figured out that if you go straight to HIGH to get it started, the machine shuts off (reset light comes on). It seems to get too hot too fast or something is too sensitive inside the machine. If you start on LOW, let it start steaming, then increase it to HIGH, we don't seem to have the reset problem.

We've only had the unit for a week... Let's hope it will hold up ok!

Defective Product
I had just purchased the humidifier and followed all instructions to set up the system. After running for 15 seconds, the machine's reset button started to blink, which by the way should only be blinking if it runs out of water. Staring dumfoundadly at a full water resevoir, I followed their reset procedure only to have the same thing happen again...and again...and again. When I called customer service, they explained that the only time the reset light will come on is if there's no water left in the resevoir or if there is a mineral build up on the heating element. I explained that I had just bought the system less than an hour ago so there's no chance that there is a build up of any kind and that the tank is full. Their response was to return it and bring home another system and try that one. I am definately returning it, but will not be purchasing another bionaire system, or anything that has the bionaire name printed on it.

Stay Away
Otherwise trustworthy Bionaire has produced a defective model. I've been through two of them now, both with similar problems. They tend to shut off despite enough water being in the tank, and no other visible problem. First one never worked right, the second lasted for two months before it continually flashed the reset light. Customer service could offer no solutions. Stay away!

Nice Remote but Burping/Churping Noise
I've had this humidifier for about a week and use it at night in my bedroom. The remote is a very nice feature and will maintain the pre-set humidity level but there have been nights were it could not reach the setpoint and therefore stayed on all night. The only other drawback is that it makes this burping, churping noise while it boils the water. This can take some getting use to especially if you're use to sleeping dead quiet nights. ... Lifesaver!
We've had our detector four years, always showed the low reading of zero. Then, in the middle of the night one night it awoke my wife and I to display very high readings of carbon monoxide. We called the fire department which investigated to discover a problem with our furnace. They said if we didn't have it we might have died.

This detector saved our lives!
We had two CO detectors in the home, this one and another brand's battery operated one. The Nighthawk always went off and my parent's always ignored it. Finally, one Sunday, without my parents permission (I was in my 20's), I called the fire department to have them check it out. Our levels were so high that the fire department said that got an instant headache when they walked in. At times our levels were well over 300. Please get one...Co is the SILENT killer.

Works perfectly
I work at a truck shop where noxious fumes can sometimes make you sick. In the office we have this detector and it gives you that extra security in case the carbon monoxide level gets to high. A stuffy room can be unpleasant or even, for allergy sufferers, downright debilitating. A good air purifier can usually take care of that, but not every room is stuffy for the same reason. Dust, pollen, smoke, odors--they all need to be removed in slightly different ways. The Soleus Air SA-150R multi-filter air purifier has the ability to sense different types of particles in the air and switch to different cleaning modes to get the particular job done that needs doing.
