Amazon.com Review

This versatile system forecasts local weather; automatically sets andupdates the time, day, and date; keeps track of the indoor temperature; andemploys a remote, wireless sensor to record the outdoor temperature up to 100feet away. For forecasting weather within 12 to 24 hours, the6-1/4-by-4-1/4-inch monitor employs a built-in electronic barometric-pressuresensor and then displays the upcoming weather with an icon (sunny, partly sunny, cloudy, rain/snow) on its backlit LCD screen. For keeping track of time, themonitor is equipped with a radio receiver tuned to the U.S. atomic clock; thisenables the monitor to maintain split-second accuracy by automaticallyadjusting, if necessary, to the atomic clock's signals six times every 24 hours. From those signals, the monitor also displays the date, the day, and the timezone for which the user has set the clock. Also, the clock automatically adjustsfor daylight saving time and for leap year. The monitor beams the time and theoutdoor temperature onto a wall or ceiling in large, red numerals for easyreadability. If the monitor is in battery-mode (four AA batteries included),pressing the clock's snooze bar will beam the data for five seconds. If themonitor is plugged into a wall socket with an AC adapter (included), theprojection will be available either for five seconds with the snooze bar orcontinuously if a continuous-beam control is set. The projection beam comes froma device mounted next to the clock. The device pivots so the beam can beprojected onto any surface, and a dial focuses the beam for clarity. You canalso choose to have the temperature displayed in either Celsius or Fahrenheit.--Fred Brack ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars over-rated
Although there are some cool features on this clock, it doesn't do all that it should. I'll simply list the pros and cons and you can decide for yourself.

Pros:
- you can instantly know the weather outside and the temperature inside.
- the forcast prediction and graphics are remarkably accurate.
- projection on ceiling is very cool at night - you can look straight up as you lie in bed and know the time.

Cons:
- even though it plugs in, the clock runs on batteries. the plug is only for the projection part.
- the alarm wouldn't wake up the lightest sleeper - it's just a little beep like your microwave makes. it just makes them more often as you sleep through it.
- the projection doesn't work at all if any light is on in the room and it's really only usefull on a perpendicular surface - otherwise it's stretched and half out of focus.

So as a second clock and something neat to have, this is fine. Don't get it as your primary alarm clock if you want to make it to work on time and not get fired :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars ITS THE BEST BED SIDE CLOCK EVER !!!
The projection is awesome! The alarm starts quiet then gets loud enough to wake anyone (except the dead or the laziest). The weather forcasting works great never wrong. Knowing the time and outdoor temp as soon you open your eye's right on the ceiling or wall is wonderful! Never needs to be set I receive the signal fine and I live in northern rural Minnesota. Buy it you will love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT!!!
I had this for a year now, and I NEVER had a problem with it. *Knock wood*. It does what it says, and it is very accurate, and the weather forecaster is pretty acurate too. A must buy!

4-0 out of 5 stars Too Little....
Love the clock but wish the buttons were a little less cumbersome - hard to manipulate with just one hand. Indoor temp. reads a little high. Perhaps the projector heats the internals. Other than that, the time and outdoor temp. on the ceiling is quite entertaining!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great idea; poor design
I bought this clock for my technophobic mother and she loves it. The display on the ceiling is ideal for her; she is severely near-sighted in one eye and almost blind in the other. She can see the display on the ceilng in the middle of the night without any problems. In addition to the display, she appreciates being able to see the temperature, both inside and out.

Another feature of this clock that is ideal for her is that the regular display is only lit when you want it to be lit. There are no glaring red numbers staring at you all night. When you want to see the time/temp, press the snooze button and the display lights for a few seconds.

Now for the negatives of this great little gadget. It is very lightweight and the buttons sit smoothly at the bottom of the clock. It is difficult to tell one button from another or to even push the buttons to set the alarm, view, etc. Raised braille like nobs on the buttons would be helpful as well as making the base wider so it would be more difficult to knock it over. Also, if the clock is running off battery, you have the option of displaying the time on the ceiling only when you press the snooze button. However, if you use the A/C adapter, you're choices are continuous display or no display. The slide switch that controls this is on the side of the clock and is difficult to find by feel.

Despite the few shortcomings of this clock, I still think it's wonderful and recommend it to anyone who is tired of squinting at glowing red dots to see what time it is; who wants to know the temperature both inside and out; and who always wants the correct time. ... Read more

With the ExactSet projection clock from Oregon Scientific, youcan be as on time as the most accurate clock in the U.S. That's becausethe ExactSet clock uses radio frequency to pick up signals from theU.S. Atomic Clock in Boulder, Colorado. The result is an extremelyaccurate timepiece that updates itself six times a day, never needsresetting, and adjusts automatically for daylight savings. The clockhas plenty of convenient features, too, such as the crescendo alarm, the eight-minute snooze, and the dual display that shows current timeand alarm time at once. The clock also features a swiveling arm with a90-degree rotation and a 12-foot range that projects the time in redwhen you push a button. Backlit with a pleasant blue glow, the screenalso indicates the date and day (in English, French, or Spanish), aswell as time zone, alarm status, and radio-frequency strength. Poweredby two AA batteries or the included AC adapter, the clock only works inthe continental U.S. --Emily Bedard ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars actually...
I actually have this clock. The ceiling display can be rotated from 0-90 degrees, or there it a button to rotate 180degrees -- giving you 360 degrees. Its sittin on my nightstand, approx. 12 feet from me, right now, and I can read the LCD display from here. It's designed to not be a bright light when you're sleeping, and when the alarm goes off it auto-lights the LED and the LCD displays, so you can see it. :)

2-0 out of 5 stars Oregon Scientific Projection Clock
The clock's LCD display can not be read from across the room during daytime or even with an overhead light on in the evening.
This could be corrected if the light that illuminates the clock face had an option to remain on. Currently, one hits the bar on the top of the clock and the clock face is illuminated for 5 seconds and then the light turns off. The second option would be to replace the LCD with an LED readout.
Also, when using the projection feature the display is clearly visible, but it is reversed/upside down. One has to turn the clock almost backwards to get a correct view of the time on the ceiling. ... Read more

Whether you check on the time by consulting this alarm clock'sLCD screen or by looking at a large red-light projection of the timebeamed onto a wall or ceiling, you'll know the time is accurate. That'sbecause the clock is equipped with a radio receiver tuned to the U.S.Atomic Clock, and it keeps time with split-second accuracy byautomatically adjusting, if necessary, to the Atomic Clock's signalssix times every 24 hours. From those signals, the slim (1-5/8 inchesthick) 5-1/2-by-4-inch clock not only shows the precise time, but alsodisplays the date and day, with automatic adjustment for daylight- saving time and leap year, according to the North American time zonefor which the clock is set. (The day can be shown in English, Spanish,or French.) As a backup, you can set time, day, and date manually aswell as automatically.

The red-light projection makes it possible to check the time withoutsquinting. If the clock is in battery mode (two AA batteries included),pressing the clock's snooze bar will beam the time onto a wall or theceiling for five seconds. If the clock is plugged into a wall socketwith an AC adapter (included), the projection will be available eitherfor five seconds with the snooze bar or continuously if acontinuous-beam control is set. The projection beam comes from a device mountednext to the clock. The device pivots so the beam can be projected ontoany surface, and a dial focuses the beam for clarity. --FredBrack ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A bit disappointed...
I bought this clock for the projection feature, but was pretty dismayed to find that the projection is so faint, that the room needs to be in pitch darkness in order to see the time. Since our blinds let in some light, by 6:30 AM, it is almost impossible to see the time.

Also, the "Radio Controlled" atomic clock setting doesn't seem to be received in NYC. It just shows the "No Reception" symbol, so you have to set the time yourself. So much for the "ExactSet" functionality...

And, oddly enough, the images show the clock as being black, but the one I received is silver.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty, but adequate
Very sleek looking clock but a few problems: The LED display on the face is not very bright and very difficult to see during the daytime (at night it is impossible to see the time unless you click the button to light it up for a few seconds), it is too easy to turn the alarm on/off by mistake since the buttons are flat.As mentioned in another review, you can project the time (in red digits) but only on the ceiling. On the wall, the time is displayed backwards. One thing I like about the clock is the alarm. It is a loud beep that goes off in intervals (the beeps move closer together until it goes off completely) ...Overall, I think it is a very nice-looking clock that works adequately.

4-0 out of 5 stars OK, but...
I purchased this clock for my visually impaired father. We both like gadgets and this was intriguing with its ability to receive short wave time broadcasts from the National Institute of Standards atomic clock in Boulder. It set its own time after a few minutes of operation.

He finds it difficult to use: if he picks it up he's apt to turn on the alarm function by mistake. This was waking him up nightly at 12AM until he put it in another room.

The projected time is only visible in a darkened room on the ceiling. I thought it might be able to project onto the wall behind the clock, reasonably close, and be visible during daylight. It does this, however the projected time is upside down. The designers intended for it to project on the ceiling.

The projected time, in red block digits, is bright enough and large enough for him to see at night on the ceiling.

This is the second Oregon Scientific product I have purchased. They build in high quality with innovative features. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this for its intended use. However if I were to purchase another clock from OS, it would be without the projection feature. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't live up to the Description
The atomic clock signal is weak and not near as stong as two other recent purchases from Seiko. The instructions are terrible and not very helpful. Making any kind of adjustments requires the reader to carefully follow all the steps as outlined which seems fine except just turning off the alarm in case you get up early or just want to cancel it is a major pain. The humane waking is system is overrated. Yes, it gets louder in increments but very quickly and not as slow as described. I would consider another alternative.

2-0 out of 5 stars The atomic clock is a phoney!
I called Sangean to find out why the time was not synchronizing, to which the technician replied, "Well it's not the strongest atomic clock there is..." Then when I explained what I had done to test it, he was arrogant, unhelpful, and not in too many words told me tough luck!

Just for the record, I purchased another clock from Radio Shack (which they don't sell anymore, or I would have bought another one of those!), which works perfectly fine.

What a ruse!

1-0 out of 5 stars Too bad about the backlighting...
This clock radio has it all... almost. The Atomic clock synched right up, the sound is quite good, I like the "Nap" feature and the ability to set two alarms to two different times on each different day of the week is cool.

So, I set it all up and put in my bedroom and when it got dark I realized the radio was useless to me - no matter how you set the backlighting brightness display you have to get right on top of the clock to read the display. So trying to set the nap timer or the sleep timer or change the alarm settings, after dark, becomes almost impossible. When you turn up the brightness the numerals just stay the same and the backlighting just gets brighter and glares in your face.

The manual leaves a bit to be desired too and just ignores features like backup (which it seems to have because when you disconnect from power the clock continues to display and the setting are saved; I just have no idea how long and if that feature is something I can count on).

Bottom line is I would surely keep the clock if I could only read it at night.... but I can't; so back it goes. Too bad.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this clock
This alarm clock has everything I wanted packed in a sleek unit: 2 alarms which you can individually set the days you want each of them to go off and what alarm type you want (radio, buzzer), GREAT sound, accurate time, internal battery back-up, display dimmer (can even be turned off), analog and digital displays, nap timer, and sleep timer. The atomic clock display set within 2 hours and the sound is amazing for an alarm clock (you can't beat it in this price range). I also love how the alarm gradually increases so you are not startled out of bed.

I agree with everyone regarding the instruction manual, but found everyone's feedback here to be helpful in figuring it out. It wasn't too bad, fairly intuitive to set up. I highly recommend this product.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Clock Radio; Not Great
The radio reception, nap feature, and humane waking system are great on this clock radio. However, I did not like the time display.

The reception in my area was not ideal for an atomic clock. Also, inclement weather can affect its performance, too.

The instruction booklet didn't note that the speaker symbol on the display means that the radio will wake you nor that the clock has an internal battery that saves your settings in the event of power interruption. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

This modern clock radio is a step above the clock radios of the past. For starters, the radio updates its time automatically from the U.S. atomic clock in Boulder, Colorado. While this may force you to work or school on time, the benefits of a constantly updated timepiece are critical in this fast-paced world. The radio even adjusts itself automatically for daylight saving time. The illuminated LCD screen gives you vital information, including: time, date, day of week, sleep, wake times, naptime, and radio information. With the gentle wake option, you can choose for the radio's volume to start low and slowly build over time. The AM/FM radio has fourteen presets for individual programming. The clock radio also features an automatic preset system which scans and memorizes available radio stations. With the two alarms you can set wake-up times on the same or different days of the week. The sleep timer is a nice feature for those who use the radio as a sleep aid. There is a headphone jack for people who want to listen to the radio without bugging the person besides them. The clock radio's color is silver and its styling is modern and sleek.

3-0 out of 5 stars Full featured, but drawbacks
There's a lot to like about this clock, but unfortunately it has a few problems. As others have said, the display is either too light or too dark. The manual lists snooze time as 5 min, but it's actually 6 minutes(!). That's way too short for me. Most clocks are 9-10 minutes, I'd probably prefer 15. It has lots of buttons, and a not very intutitive setup. Still, it's nice looking, syncs up pretty quickly for me (not hours), and has a nice day-of-the-week alarm schedule.

2-0 out of 5 stars Excellent design, fails on the basics
My first impression was one of delight, because the RCR-2's controls, programming flexibility, packaging, and sound quality are very well done. But I was ultimately disappointed and had to return the unit because Sangean did not follow through in two important areas: the display and power back-up.

The LCD display is only viewable from a limited angle. We placed the unit on a low headboard about 6" above the pillows, and the digits became invisible. The left-to-right viewing angle is also very limited. The RCR-2 is easily viewable only if you place it on a nightstand lower than your pillow and view it straight ahead within arm's reach.

The LCD backlighting is weak and uneven. Instead of a uniform electro-luminescent light source (e.g. Indiglo), there is a single bulb on one side. Bright on one side and dim on the other, it looks a lot like a cheap digital watch from many years ago. Not a good first impression in a guest bedroom.

The second problem is the limited and/or undocumented power failure backup. The RCR-2 does not use a battery, but does have some internal power storage since I could unplug it for several minutes without losing the time. But the instructions don't say how long an outage the RCR-2 can handle. The radio update can take several hours, so don't depend on the unit re-syncing before wake-up time. Also, there is no mention in the instructions as to whether the alarm times are preserved, even if the clock does re-sync by morning.

Without assurance that the clock would wake me after a power outage of 30 minutes or more (which do occur where I live) I elected to return the RCR-2. If power outages are less of an issue in your area, you can solve many of the display problems by moving up to the Sangean RCR-1, which adds an analog clock face.

3-0 out of 5 stars Love it and hate it
TERRIFIC radio reception for a clock radio, and lots of clever conveniences, although reading the manual is a must. However...

The display is dreadful. The background is a rectangle of amber light. There's no way to dim it and it really can't be ignored in a dark room. Furthermore, the digital display is more gray than black and not particularly easy to read. The light can be turned off but then there's no possible way to read it in a dark room.

Can anyone suggest another clock radio with especially good radio reception?

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
The best clock radio that I have seen!
Dual alarms that can be programmed for any days of the week.
Very comprehensive display; shows day, date and month.
Display backlight is on or off; no dimming feature. You get accustomed to it. It's not excessively bright.

I would buy it again for myself or as an excellent gift.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good functions, poor display
This clock has great functionality as far as the dual alarm settings and radio presets go, but the display is, in my opinion, absolutely terrible. The display is a back-lit LCD with very thin number segments, making it very hard to read from more than a few feet away, especially at night. This is really unfortunate, because otherwise the Sangean seems to be a great product. The atomic clock synchs up to the NIST time signal very quickly (I've had other 'atomic' clocks take a long time), and it is very easy to program. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good clock with a fix for the temperature sensor
I received a similar (but not identical) SkyScan clock from Sams Club about 1.5 years ago. It's worked great up until last week. The outside temperature sensor stopped working. I replaced the batteries and that didn't seem to help. After contacting Eddie at Impact Merchandising (the distributor of SkyScan products) he emailed me with a fix. What you have to do is take out the batteries from both the clock and the temp sensor. Leave them out for AT LEAST 15 minutes. Then make sure you place new fresh batteries in the temp unit first. Then place new batteries in the clock. (DO NOT TRY TO SET THE TIME OR PRESS ANY BUTTONS ON THE CLOCK). Place the two units 3-5 feet apart. You should get a signal within 15 minutes. If not repeat the process once. If that doesn't fix the clock you can purchase a new temp sensor for $5 directly from them. Their contact info is :

3-0 out of 5 stars Not atomic
This clock is accurate, but not very accurate. While looking for a clock I thought it would be great to pick up one of these atomic clocks so I can synchronize all my clocks together.

Just one problem, though... when I went to pick it up and I noticed they had two of these sitting next to each other as a display. They were over 30 seconds different!!!!

There are other ways of setting a clock atomically. I bought a regular wall clock instead and now I just synchorize my watch and all of my clocks with a program I bought on the Internet.

The temperature features are nice and this does keep pretty close time. The feature of it setting itself is handy. I'm sure it makes Day-Lights savings time a bit easier. But I'm not going to pay extra for an atomic clock that is incorrect. You can do it cheaper other ways.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the nail it's hung on
Sorry folks.. this clock just doesn't set itself! It's as simple as that. You will find no support for this product.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Automatic Clock That Wasn't
We do not have this exact clock. We have model number 86175.

However, this one is the closest in appeareance to ours. This clock never sets itself. Every year I have had to set it manually. In fact it says the time is 11:50 P.M. as I write this and the correct time is 7:46 P.M.

I did not purchase the clock. My father did before he passed away. Therefore, I went to the net to get instructions for it. I thought I was doing somthing wrong.

Only to find that the company that is selling these:

1. Does not have Model 86715 listed
2. Does not have any support pages on their web site.

What I have read on the Net is that most people can not get these clocks to work.

What do you expect from a product made in China.

5-0 out of 5 stars Keeps going, and going, and going
I got one of these as a gift several years ago. It has kept time wonderfully ever since. Daylight Savings Time was made easy. It is durable too. I moved across country a couple years after I got it, I just had to change the time zone setting and it was fine. Five years later I moved back across country and the thermometer did stop working accurately, but the time is still accurate to the second. I love it! ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

This sleek, self-setting atomic clock radio offers a blend of style, features, and performance that will perfectly accent any home or office. The clock automatically adjusts itself to radio signals received from the U.S. atomic clock in Boulder, Colorado, so you're always ensured accurate and reliable time. It even makes adjustments for Daylight Savings time.

A easy-to-read LCD shows time, date, and day of the week, as well as sleep times, wake times, and--of course--nap times. The RCR-1 also boasts an inset, German-made analog clock for easier reading, which synchronizes itself with the LCD's displayed time.

Living with someone else who needs an alarm? You can set and use the RCR-1's two alarms completely independently, with selectable days and the option to wake to a radio or buzzer. The alarm volume starts softly then gradually increases. The radio's ATS system locates stations and automatically establishes memory presets.

Too bad. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not for me....
This a nice radio and it is amazing to watch it set itself when you first plug it in. I live in Arizona and we don't mess around with Daylight Savings Time so this item it totally useless to us. Half of the year the time would be completely wrong because there is no way to disable DST. This radio should not be sold to residents of Arizona. There is another Atomic Clock Radio with a DST switch that is sold by a big name drug store that would be better for those that don't change time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost there, but not quite
I have been looking for an atomic clock that I could read at night without having to fumble for the light switch. This clock fit the description, and has the added bonus of a battery backup to preserve the alarm settings. When I set the clock up on my nightstand, I could not get a signal to set the clock. Since the antenna for the atomic clock plugs into the unit, instead of being permanently attached, I thought an extension would work. A quick trip to Radio Shack, and I found a headphone extension for under $10. When I plugged the antenna into the extension, I was able to place the antenna by a window, and now I am receiving a good signal for the atomic clock feature. Now, I think this is a great product, but I do wonder why it comes with only a 2 foot antenna. I had a very specific place for this clock, on my nightstand next to the bed. An alarm clock is not very effective if you can't place it where you need it, but the additional headphone extension solved that dilemma for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Atomic Clock works great for me
When I reviewed this product, a number of people complained that the atomic clock feature didn't work for them. It worked great for me. I'm in Minneapolis. Also, the LED isn't all that bright in my opinion. This clock has many great features and I'm looking forward to my first Daylight Savings Time switchover, coming up soon, where I won't have to change my clock! I'm happy with my purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super Clock Radio!
The Emerson CKA1100 is the most accurate and easy to use clock radio that I have ever owned. I purchased it from Amazon.com, for just $39.99, received it in 5 days with the free shipping option! What more could you ask for? I plugged it in around 4:00pm eastern time. By 11:00pm that night it picked up the signal form the atomic clock in Colorado and set itself. This clock radio is packed with technology for the price! You can set the alarm to sound only on Monday through Friday, only on Saturday & Sunday or everyday. In fact there are two alarms that can operate independently of each other in this manor. Not only does the clock set itself, but also it updates itself automatically in the early morning hours each and every day when there is less interference with the atomic clock radio signal being transmitted form Colorado! The unit has battery backup in addition to all the other features. You won't find a better clock radio anywhere. With Amazon.com's free shipping and super low price you can't go wrong! I give this unit and Amazon.com the highest recommendations!

1-0 out of 5 stars No Signal
This is the second time I bought this model and it is the second time I am returning it. It NEVER received a signal where my old Emerson CKA1000 Atomic Clock Radio used to be (and received a signal just fine there). The old CKA1000 finally got Alzheimer's and finally died after about 5 years of dependable service. The CKA1100 is certainly not up to it's older sibling's performance, at least the atomic signal antenna engineering isn't.

Some day, atomic clock manufacturers will invest more engineering efforts in their antenna technology so customers can put a clock ANYWHERE in their home without restricting it's placement near windows or outside. When people buy clocks they have a specific place they want them and nowhere else. This was the case for this clock and it unfortunately had to be returned.

Unless you're using it outside or near an open window, skip this clock. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I've had the 30731 for about a week and am, thus far, very pleased.

When I began shopping for a new alarm clock, my primary selection criterion was that it have an LED display. Many new clocks have multifunction LCD displays which are nice except that you can't see them in the dark without pressing a button to illuminate them like an LCD wristwatch. Alternatively, some of these LCD clocks have projector attachments that shine a time display on the wall or ceiling, but you can't see them in a well-lit room! An LED display is visible under all ambient lighting conditions and seemed to me the most logical and straightforward solution.

Once the universe of clocks is narrowed to LED models, the next consideration is the size of the LED digits. They run anywhere from approximately 1/2 inch to 1 inch. I'm very nearsighted, so to be able to see the time in the middle of the night without my glasses, is purely a case of "the bigger the better". The 30731 has digits that are .9 inches high - bigger than most other LED clocks and easily readable sans glasses at 4AM. Obviously, the larger the display, the larger the clock, but I have lots of room on my nightstand and was not concerned with the 30731's somewhat larger than usual size (about 8.5"W, 3"D, 4"H).

At this point, additional useful features are the only other necessary evaluation. The 30731 has the ability to set itself by receiving a radio signal from the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) located in Colorado (Do a Google search for WWVB and you'll find them - lots of useful info). You set your timezone and whether you use Daylight Savings Time and the clock does the rest.

I can report that from my location in NY, this works perfectly but you should know 2 things. First, I have found that the clock must be facing East-West (i.e. facing Colorado from NY) for the auto-setting to work. If your bedroom is laid out such that your clock will not be facing in the general direction of Colorado, you might have a problem. (Actually, I think if it faces directly *away* from Colorado, that's OK too. As long as its not "end-on" to Colorado.) Furthermore, as the instructions point out, time signal reception is best in the wee hours of the morning, and that is the only time that, for my location anyway, the clock is able to sucessfully set itself (but it has sucessfully reset itself every night).

My only complaint, and it is a minor one, is that the snooze alarm bar, though large and easy to find, doesn't really depress like a button but sort of pivots front-to-back on a stiff spring and can cause a little fumbling when you're in a semi-conscious state.

The alarm is an electronic "chirp". Loud enough to wake me but not so loud as to cause coronary arrest.

The clock has battery backup for power failures if you put a 9V battery in it (not included).

It does not have dual alarms or weekend settings. It does not display date, day of the week or seconds.

You can see a better picture of the clock and get more info on it at the equitytime.com website.

I have not experienced the dim or irregularly illuminated display reported by the reviewer from Redmond. I find it amply bright with all LED segments uniformly lit.

I am quite happy with this alarm clock and can recommend it without reservation.

4-0 out of 5 stars A little dim otherwise works fine
I bought two of this clock because I'm sick of adjusting the time after a power outage.
The clocks sets the time automatically within 5 minutes of powering up. The only weakness is that even with the brightness (dimmer) sets to high, it is still kind of dim, and each LED segment has slightly different brightness. If you put it near the window, I think you may have difficulty reading the clock. However, I put them in shaded areas, so I can read the clock just fine. Still, I wish they can be brighter.
You can pick one of the four US time zones (PST, MST, CST, EST) via a switch. I did not test the alarm or battery backup.
AC cord has a small power brick attached at the end.
