5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent GPS and Ostia software
this GPS device only costs $170 that will lead you all the way to your destination, which functions exactly the same as the one my friend has, and his cost $1800. For the price you paid, this is just way more than you bargain. I never bother to write review, but this is one piece good of eletronic you must have if you have Dell Axim X5.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Product
Even though the manual didn't have all the troubleshooting available to help me configure my X5, I *DID* find what I needed in the FAQs at [manufacturer's web site] - I fly all ovet the country for my job and haven't been lost since I bought it. The voice is pleasant and loud enough to hear, even on the Axim's speaker. The display is bright and easy to see.

This was DEFINITELY worth it's price, and rivals units at 10 TIMES to price. Easily comparable to the Magellan, which costs $1,700.00.

I would appreciate your help on this.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you have an Axim, then this item is a must get
I just recieved my PK038 navigator GPS for my Axim. I put the installation CD in, and with one click the installation started for my Axim. Very easy to install. I installed a map of the San Jose area within a few minutes. I hooked it up in my car. Very simple hooking up the cables. I got a signal very quickly and I was on my way. Speed on the GPS is accurate within 1 mile per hour. The navigation is awesome and voice directions are very cool. Re-route works well. The maps look really clear and are easy to view. It is pretty fun to use. It could not have been any easier. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Using MyScript Notes software, the io Personal Digital Pen transforms handwritten notes into computer readable files, including text, tables, and drawings. It recognizes natural handwriting, numerous geometrical forms, arrow and tables. With the Logitech IO personal digital pen, your handwriting becomes an effective tool for the digital world--without changing the way you work. Write or draw on special digital paper and your words and images are both inked on the paper and stored in the pen's memory. To transfer these handwritten documents to your PC, place the pen in its cradle and download them. Then, easily share, store, organize, and retrieve them.

The Logitech IO digital pen remembers everything you write when you are away from your PC. In addition to a regular ink cartridge, it includes an optical sensor that captures your words and drawings. A built-in processor digitizes your handwriting, storing up to 40 pages in memory between downloads. Based on functionality from Anoto, the Logitech IO digital pen encodes on the basis of microscopic dots printed on the paper. Since it always knows exactly where you are, you can even accurately edit the original page at a later time. Use Post-it Notes and Cambridge Limited notebooks enabled with the Anoto functionality to capture your thoughts.

Protect your information with electronic copies, so you'll never forget or lose handwritten documents again. Find the information quickly with your PC's indexing and searching functions. Even have your handwritten notes available on the road. Simplify your organization by writing calendar entries into your electronic organizer and adding handwritten tasks to your electronic to-do list.

Improve communication by circulating hand-drawn sketches and drawings and meeting or class notes without photocopying. Write e-mail when you're away from your computer for automatic sending on download. The Logitech IO digital pen comes with a rapid-charging USB cradle, an AC adapter, helpful software, five ink refills, one Mead Cambridge Limited Notebook, one 3M Post-it Notes Pad, and a two-year limited warranty.

How it works
The Logitech io digital pen looks and feels just like an ordinary ballpoint pen and you use it in the same way. There are no keys to press and no display. You activate the pen simply by removing the cap and deactivate it by replacing the cap. Then you write on digital paper the same way you write on regular paper. The main parts of the digital pen are a digital camera, an advanced image-processing unit, and a communication unit. It also contains an ink cartridge so that you can always see what you have written or drawn.

  1. Optical sensor captures everything you write
  2. Processor digitizes your words and images
  3. Rapid-charge USB cradle transfers digitized data to your computer
  4. Ink cartridges let you write like you normally do
  5. Memory stores up to 40 pages between transfers
  6. Battery lasts up to 25 pages between recharges
  7. Cap controls on/off -- remove to turn on, replace to save battery

Your handwritten notes are quickly and easily converted into text.

FAQs

How does the Logitech io digital pen work with digital paper to capture handwriting?
When using digital pen and paper, a tiny camera in the pen registers the pen's movement across the grid surface on the paper and stores it as series of map coordinates. These coordinates correspond to the exact location of the page you're writing on.

How much memory does the pen have?
The pen has 2 megabytes (MB) of memory, of which 1 MB is dedicated to storing pen stroke information and paper definitions. The remaining memory is used to store handwritten documents and can be erased when you download your handwritten documents.

How many handwritten pages does the Logitech io hold?
The pen can hold up to 40 pages of handwritten content before needing to download the content to the computer. A page is defined as 29 lines of handwritten text.

Will I lose any of my documents in the pen if the battery dies and I don't recharge it right away?
No, the information is stored in a non-volatile flash memory, meaning the contents remain until you download the documents to the computer or reset the pen using a Master Reset procedure.

What type of ink refills should I use with the pen?
You can get ink cartridge refills at local office supply retailers, provided the refills are ISO 12757-1 D1 compliant.Only use ink refills that do not contain carbon because carbon ink can hide the dot pattern on the paper. You can always purchase ink refills from Logitech that are guaranteed to work with your pen by visiting www.logitechio.com.

Does the cradle have to be plugged into an electrical outlet to work?
Yes. You must make sure that the cradle is plugged in to both an electrical outlet and your PC. You'll know everything is connected properly when the battery status LED indicates that the pen is charging.

Is the pen for left- and right-handed users?
Yes. Whether you are a left- or right-handed user, you can write with the pen.

Do I have to hold the pen in a special way?
You don't have to hold the pen in any special way, but it is important to make sure the pen is positioned so that the sensor is in back of the ink cartridge tip, not in front of or on the side of the ink tip.As long as the sensor is in back of the ink tip, you can tilt it in any direction and the pen will still record your writing.

If my pen is lost, can someone else see the information I've written with it?
No. The information cannot be downloaded without the supplied cradle and AC adapter. However, if your pen, cradle, and power adapter are also lost, then the information can be downloaded.

Does the Logitech io work on a Macintosh?
Currently, the pen is supported only on the PC platform.

Can the memory by upgraded to store more information?
No, the pen's memory capacity has been optimized for its intended use.

How long is the warranty?
The Logitech io features a two-year warranty. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great idea ... hidden costs ... some 'gotchas'
I was an early, frustrated adopter of the A.T. Cross-Pad. The concept was intriguing, and the engineering was an interesting combination of traditional paper, special ink and handwriting recognition software. Where that product fell short, in my opinion, was the painful and frustrating sessions in which you attempted to train the software to recognize your handwriting. A second barrier was the serial interface (USB was on the horizon at the time, but not mainstream). I wrote off the technology (no pun intended) at the time after failing to find a use for the technology, so when Logitech introduced the Personal Digital Pen it seemed time to give technology another chance.

The Logitech Personal Digital Pen makes no claims to transform handwriting into text, which was a major selling point for me. I wanted to scribble notes and get them into a computer in the easiest possible manner. The USB interface that is included makes this easy - merely set the pen in the holder and everything you wrote on your pad is quickly in your computer and faithfully reproduced (in my case, near-illegible handwriting and all). The pen has 2 MB or RAM and can hold approximately 40 pages of notes before you have to upload it to your computer.

Up to this point I was pleased with the device, but did some quick math and discovered that the cost of owning the pen was high - it only works with special electronic pads that are relatively expensive. Currently there are two manufacturers for the paper (3M for the PostIt Notes and Mead for the writing pad). Logitech does claim that any electronic pad that is marked with an "Anoto functionality" logo will work.

The show-stoppers for me, and the reasons why I returned the product were: (1) the pen's software required Internet Explorer (I have it completely removed from my system for security reasons), and (2) also mandates the use of Microsoft's .NET framework (I have privacy and security concerns about that). However, if you use Internet Explorer and are already using the .NET framework with applications such as Hotmail, MSN, etc. you shouldn't have the same issues as I with this aspect of the product. If you can live with the total cost of ownership that is imposed by the requirement for special electronic paper, you will find the Personal Digital Pen to be a handy tool and a great value.

5-0 out of 5 stars Note Keeping Simplified
I was very impressed with how easy this pen was to set up and how quickly it learned my style of writing. As a clergy person I attend several meetings a day, taking notes and trying to keep them organized for filing and for follow up with e-mail etc. I often find myself sorting through papers and note pads trying to find the notes I took on a particular subject etc. Now the process has been made a single rather than a multiple entry process.

With this pen, notes are stored on my computer simply by placing the pen in its cradle. From there the notes are very simple to organize and now the "stack" of paper on my desk remains under control for just one notebook (digital paper) will do the job.

Depending upon the type of entry selected by touching a point on the paper, notes can be addressed for e-mailing, making calendar entries (both using Outlook,)filing as a Word document or sending a post-it note reminder to your desktop. After downloading the notes, etc., by cradling the pen the correct software is loaded: Outlook for calendar, notes and/or e-mail (all ready to ready to deliver), Word files to store, etc., with just some minor tweeking all is ready for sending to the right destination.

I also travel and attend regional meetings. This handy little tool makes followup upon returning home a breeze. This pen is a necessity for those who depend heavily upon their note taking in any line of work. Life is now made simpler with the Logitec io! It is a heart to heart meeting between the world of paper and the digital world.

3-0 out of 5 stars Hard Core User - Business Analyst Review
BACKGROUND:
I use this tool everyday in my work as an IT Business Analyst. I write between 100 and 300 pages of handwritten notes per month - not including those captured on my laptop. My writing includes meeting notes, requirements, process workflows (data and business), planning, ideas, etc. I've been using the product for 3 months.

MY REQUIREMENTS:
#1 - Stop Rework: eliminate re-typing critical handwritten notes into my laptop.
#2 - Easier Access: file notes electronically instead of trying to find notes in the voluminous stacks of folders I'm forced to create and maintain.
#3 - Portablity: need to have my notes with me at all times to be able to recall information quickly.
#4 - Information Sharing: distribute much needed detail information gathered to all parties involved in a project. Provide critical reference information about a project for those who are tasked with future enhancement or maintenance on the software products / services that were developed.

PRODUCT REVIEW:
#1 Stop Rework:
Greatly reduced the amount of re-typing for non-critical information I capture - i.e. information not widely distributed.
For my purposes, notes captured that require wide distribution, need to be converted to text so recipients can read them. The product makes the claim that MyScript Notes will convert words and diagrams into text and objects. The text / object conversion is completely (100%) unusable. It actually takes much longer to make corrections to a 'text/object-converted' page than to completely rewrite the document from the beginning.
#2 Easier Access:
Big improvement. Allows the user to name documents, create folder structures within the IO software and store documents in one place.
#3 Portablity:
If you have a laptop - your notes go with you. For me - this has been a big advantage. I have my formal documents (e.g. Scope, Requirements, Workflow documents, etc.) composed on my laptop and my additional notes with me at all times.
#4 Information Sharing:
Good for team members who you work with daily - i.e. they get used to reading your handwriting. Unusable for distributing to a wider audience because the text/object recoginition is ususable - (i.e. unprofessional sending handwritten notes, users have trouble reading, not good for future reference documents).

SUMMARY:
I call this product a 'Poor Man's Tablet PC.' I continue to use it everyday because it has helped me stop to piles of paper I used to have to organize and store. I have everything in one place now - on my laptop, where I need it. I held off purchasing the IO Pen when it first came out until 'text/object' recognition was available. When it did become available - I bought it. I couldn't have been more disappointed with this critical feature (text/object recognition), and have vehemently let both Logitech and MyScript know about the critical requirement to make this feature usable - no action to date. If they solve this problem - it will be hard for me to justify the need for a Tablet PC.

3-0 out of 5 stars Logitech io Digital Pen reviewed
Logitech has produced a truly innovative product, the io Digital Pen. Rather than struggle in the effort to create a paperless society, many companies have tried in the past decade, Logitech is trying to marry the two technologies. The io Digital Pen is a great idea, targeted specifically for students and designers who do a lot of writing and sketching, but still find having a digital copy of their document handy. Its features as a pen are great, however, the digital aspect still requires some work. Read on to see what we thought of the pen...

3-0 out of 5 stars Works for me
I work as a salesperson and frequently take notes in the field based on client visits and phone calls. The question becomes, what do I do with all of it? Either I leave it in my notebooks, and worry about losing / damaging them, or I get home and re-type them every single night.

Or I get a $2000 tablet.

That's what I thought until I saw this. Now I have to admit, I was reluctant at first. I had a terrible experience with Logitech before involving their Bluetooth headset. It didn't work well. They said I could return it without an RMA. I did. Then they said I had been misinformed and did need an RMA. Tech support and customer service pointed fingers at each other for weeks. In the end, I spent $100 and had nothing. Nice.

Well, this is a good segue into one of the drawbacks to this pen - customer support.

See, I can't figure out how to have multiple pages in the same file. You know, you take notes on several pages and want them all to be in the same file. Sounds easy, right? Well, there were no directions (online or hard copy) to address this. So, I wrote customer service. I got an auto-email stating that I would have a reply within 24 hours.

After two weeks, I have never heard from Logitech.

In short, their customer service is abismal. If you buy this, do so in spite of customer support, not because of it.

How does it work? Pretty well! But understand that the pen is fairly big (doesn't bother me). Also, I am not interested in handwriting recognition (mine is way too sloppy to allow this function).

On that note, handwriting recognition is limited. Ones and I's are very often confused.

But this pen accomplishes my simple, single objective - to take notes and have them upload into a Word document. That's all. No text editing. No hand writing recognition.

So, if that sounds good to you, you'll be happy with this pen, just don't expect much help from Logitech customer service. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The 'Super Floppy'
The Iomega drive used expensive media and many computer's didn't have one. The LS120 format never caught on. CD-R & CD-RW can be a pain when you're only recording small programs. Also, CD's are larger and normally require that you carry them around in their own protective case. These are some of the reason's why the Floppy Disk has hung around soooo long. So what's the product that may finally supplant the venerable Floppy Disk (Dell has already made floppies an option on many of their computers)? I think that you're looking at it.

I own this Lexar 128 JumpDrive and think it's performance/price ratio is awesome. Almost every modern computer has a USB input, so this solves the format/compatibility problem. The size is extremely small and durable, which makes product excellent for transporting. USB 1 is good for about 10MBPS, so you can fill up all 122.5MB of this drive in a couple minutes (yeah, it's not quite 128MB as you'd be lead to believe). Finally the software/drivers (5MB download if you have Win 98) work like a charm.

This is an excellent product solution and if you are looking for any negatives, these are the only items I would consider worth pointing out: drive is not quite 128MB, some larger EXE files are larger than 122.5MB and therefore will not fit on this drive, and finally, although unit is very compact, the dimensional width of the JumpDrive may suck up 2 USB ports in horizontal USB configurations (e.g. - your notebook).

5-0 out of 5 stars A Favorite Gadget
This device has the same flaws I mentioned in my review of the 64MB model: awkward write-protect DIP switch, loose cap and no encryption/security features (although it isn't advertised as having any, you may have need of them). Storage capacity is not an issue as it was with the 64MB model, but the USB 1.1 transfer rate does become noticeable when transferring large amounts of data. If you can take advantage of a USB 2.0 device, getting the Lexar 256MB model bears some consideration; without the 2.0 accessibility, I wouldn't consider a device with more storage than 128MB - if I needed to transfer more than that amount, I'd burn it to a multi-session CD-R.

I find my 128MB JumpDrive to be incredibly handy and have used it for transferring files and utilities from one PC to another as well as directly played MP3s from it (using WinAmp and WMP). My wife has a laptop and frequently places a second battery in the floppy-drive bay: the JumpDrive is the easiest way to transfer files between my desktop and her laptop in this configuration.

If you're looking for a relatively inexpensive Christmas gift for the geek in your life (or you are a geek and your grandmother gave you a nice check this year instead of socks), consider getting this gadget. You're likely to love it as much as I do.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Drive
I have used this drive for about a year. It's great for transfering files from a Mac to a PC. You get 120MB of usable memory. It did just fail me, but I sent it in for repairs and got it back in 5 days. It will take longer to transfer and delete a whole bunch of small files (like jpegs) than large files. Overall, I have found this a very useful device.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not as Good as Other Drives
The price seemed right on this drive but performance is lacking. Like other thumb drives, it simply plugs into the back of your computer and becomes an instant hard drive.

This drive, however is poorly designed. The cap fits in only one direction, the pocket clip (attached to the cap) pushes the cap off if used, there is no included extension cable, there is no point for attaching to a neck cord, key chain etc.

I have also had trouble with performance. I can't seem to get more that about 95MB onto this thing without is complaining that the drive is full. This might be a bad chip but a manufacturer that lets an item out with more than a 25% shortage is probably not one you really want to deal with.

Take my advice and look for other drives (my current preference is by GE).

5-0 out of 5 stars Insanely useful!
I've kept this in my pocket for four months now with no problems. It solves all my "sneakernet" needs. I've carried stuff from work to home, mac to pc. I threw away six 100meg zip drives from my office because the jumpdrive made them obsolete. Sorry Iomega! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars CF Ultra vs CF Standard
In the past I purchased a SanDisk Ultra CF card because I was told the speed was much faster then the standard CF cards. So, I paid the premium and got the Ultra card and it works great.

Recently, I needed to purchase another CF card and thought I would save some money and buy the EP Memory 512MB CF card. (...)

After receiving the card I immediately installed the card to see if I made a mistake. After using the CF card I could not see and difference in how either card worked. I am not saying that the Ultra is not faster, I am just saying, I could not tell.

If you are a novice like me with digital cameras, you really do not need to spend the extra money for a faster card. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars SD Memory Card is a wonderful device!
The advancements in technology never cease to amaze me. They continue to get smaller and smaller even when you didn't think it was possible. Such is the case for the Panasonic SD Memory card as well. Not only is it small, but it has a large capacity for adapting to a variety of digital content types. This SD Memory Card can write data at a rate of 10 MB per second! I mainly use my SD Memory card to save music from my MP3 player. I normally get about 5 1/2 hours out of the card. I highly recommend this to anyone who uses audio, video, communications and information devices and appliances. It is the wave of the future! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not compatible with 5400/5500 iPaqs
Wish there had been some mention of this before I got it. The antenna on the 5400 and 5500 series of iPaqs makes it physically impossible to plug this in using a standard CF sleeve. Supposedly it can work if you use a dual CF sleeve.

4-0 out of 5 stars From an Everyday User: Big Improvements Needed
Bottom line: Huge improvements needed but gets a 4 because it's the most comprehensive of what's available for PDAs.

I am a financial consultant and am on the road everyday to new residences and businesses, giving me in-depth knowledge about this particular product. Because many good reviews are listed, I will focus more the drawbacks. Read on for the nitty-gritty details.

The Maps:
The maps can be huge, ranging from a couple megabytes to 15 megabytes. You'll need plenty of memory and a fast PDA. What a map covers depends on how dense the city is. Los Angeles requires about 4 maps while Riverside county is covered in two maps. You can only load 3 maps at a time, so if you're travelling long distances, your destination may have to be somewhere along the highway. Once you get there, load a different set of maps. Loading more maps, though, will reset your start/end points as well as your route. So you'll need to renter the information. Also, the more maps are open, the slower it is to pan across the map.

Finding yourself:
Unlike a static map, the GPS can track your location or you can search by contacts, address, intersection, or major points of interest. Unfortunately, it only lists major venues (e.g. stadiums, major shopping centers) and not places like gas stations (a major drawback). Searching for an intersection without knowing the city can be quite tedious. You first enter a street name, then the city, then the next street name. So if the city is unknown and the first street appears in several cities, you have to try each city until you find the second street.

The GPS:
If you use the system in your car, as I do, the GPS is a mixed blessing. When first starting the system, it may take a LONG time before getting a fix - if you're stopped. If you try to get a fix while moving, that drastically reduces your chances of getting a fix at all. After that, however, it is quick at requisition after going under tunnels and such. Because being in a car weakens the signal, it has a hard time following you after making turns. You may have made a left, but it still shows you as going straight. This is especially frustrating when you cannot stop and wait for it to tell you which way to turn, as in a highway exit with a green light. If you know this will happen, you best look at the directions and memorize the turns. Also, because of the weakened signal, the voice might keep saying, "you are off-route," either because it hasn't yet taken into account that you made a turn or simply because it can't quite pin-point where you are and has you located as driving off-road through blocks of houses. Expect this to happen frequently in mountainous areas or in downtown areas with tall buildings.

Routing:
Routing is a mixed blessing as well. You can route by fastest, shortest, or no highway, and you have a voice telling you where to go. It is fairly quick at routing when you only have one map open. If you're travelling across three maps, it might take a while. Also, it is supposed to reroute you when you have gone off-course, but it rarely ever does that, meaning you have to take your eyes off the road and manually tell it to find a new route. Perhaps the biggest drawback is the amount of time it gives itself before telling you that a turn is coming up. On streets, it makes announcements 0.1 miles before street turns and 0.5 miles before highway exits, meaning you better keep an eye on how far away you are from your next turn. Also, the maps do not use highway-exit names. For example, the Santa Monica exit off the 405 North in California puts you on a street called Cotner Ave, which in actuality is just an off-ramp with a street name. The directions will tell you to exit onto Cotner Ave, meaning you will miss it because you will never see a Cotner Ave. exit on the highway signs. And if the off-ramp does not have a name or does not immediately exit onto a street, it will simply say to exit onto the off-ramp. Along those lines, you better remember your destination address because it doesn't show it to you in the text directions. I always have to switch back to my Outlook Contacts to look at the address because the map will get you to the block, not the specific address (probably to save memory). By the way, the voice simply tells you a turn is coming up - it doesn't actually say the name. But that is forgivable in order to save memory. The map always displays in large font what is coming up and the distance left to make the next turn as well as the distance remaining to your destination.

Battery Life and Memory:
This product drains your batteries and the maps take up a lot of memory, so it would be prudent to get a car adapter and at least a 256MB flash memory module. Do NOT get compactflash because that slot will be taken by the GPS unit.

Bottom Line:
Obvously, there is MUCH room for improvement. I tried many competing products and this one was, by far, the most comprehensive. There are products that list restaurants and gas stations, but use TINY maps of which you can only load one at a time and have limited search, routing, and GPS features. Others have better GPS sensitivity but are much more expensive. Others can show a cross-country route from start to finish on a single map but again, lack in other features.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great gadget but not a replacement for your atlas
I use the Pharos module for the Siemens (ATT) PocketPC phone. For the most part this device is limited because it uses a handheld to display the information. (limited by resolution and screen size, beyond the scope of this review) It will never approach a printed map for clarity, readability or comprehensive data. I have used this device quite a bit.

That said this device does things that a printed map could never do. It will show you exactly where you are, and give you directions to where you want to go - quite accurately. I think the software for the PDA is quite straight forward and intuitive, but the PC side is clunky - and needs further refinement.

The maps are regional only - for example if you are driving in the San Francisco Bay area - you will need to load three separate maps on to your PDA. (I have a 256MB SD/MMC card that has allows me to load the entire state of CA on the PDA).

Don't expect to have the entire US at your fingertips - unless you plan on bringing a laptop with you to synch and load new maps as you travel. I recently drove from San Francisco to Ft Lauderdale - I didn't use the device. It would be good though if you were going to fly somewhere and loaded maps of that area before you left.

My chief complaint is that it will not load neighboring regional maps as you move into new territory - even if they exist on your memory card.

Bottom line: (1) Not a replacement for you atlas or map(s), but a useful aid/enhancement to both. (2) Not a device for non-technophiles. (3) Well-designed software (at least the PDA side). (4) Very accurate.

5-0 out of 5 stars What else can I say!!
After I downloaded the newest version of Ostia and the most up-to-date maps, everything started to come together! Had a little trouble while searching for sepecific addresses with the old version. Maps for Canada, (I bought the Ostia NAV01, the US version) are kinda pricy, but there're ways to get around it ^.~ Over all, it's a great gadget to have for your PDAs. it turned my e740 from a email server to something much more useful!!

3-0 out of 5 stars EZ Use
This little attachment is fantastic. Plug it in and load the software, you're done. As long as you have an open sky with no dense cover, it'll take a minute and you're on your way. I'd rate the GPS CF card 5 stars.

Only reason I gave this 3 stars and not 5 is the software it comes with is very primative. On the PDA it's fine and simple enough to use, but I don't like the user interface with the map software on the PC. In order to use the maps on the iPAQ you have to sync it from the 2-bit graphic interface software on the desk top. If you plan on using the software for cross country road trips, think again. the map software only alows you to plan regional trips within small areas, and you can only plot points from your PDA not your PC. 2 Stars for the software. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars 512 megs, at a premium.
For a long time, MultiMediaCards (MMCs) were a tough sell against other formats such as CompactFlash & SmartMedia (and lately vs Sony Memory Sticks too), largely because they were offered in smaller memory capacities and always had a higher cost-per-meg than those formats. The SD card (interchangeable with MMC cards) is a format which has some distinct advantages over the other formats in terms of physical size and memory protection. However, when compared to other SD cards of smaller sizes (eg. the several 256MBs available), there is a considerable premium here on a dollar-per-meg basis (all of those are well under 50 cents per meg). I think for most folks it makes more sense to buy two 256 MBs than to put all one's eggs (and files) in one costlier basket. When the new 1 Gig cards come out, the price on the 512s will drop.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reliable brand
