If you have an HDTV, you need this camcorder!!!!
This is the first camcorder I have ever used that looks good on an HDTV. No... Let me correct that. It looks great!!!

Have you ever wondered why a normal camcorder looks so bad on an HDTV? It's because an HDTV is very high resolution. When you connect a traditional camcorder (even a Mini DV), the TV sees a much smaller, comparatively low resolution picture and must scale it (digitally enlarge it) to fit the screen. It doesn't matter if you have a $400 low end cam or a $4000 high end cam... Scaling the picture on virtually any HDTV will ruin your camcorder picture.

JVC solved this on the GR-HD1 with the world's first consumer HD camcorder. Basically, it's the first consumer camcorder ever that makes a picture which correctly fits a widescreen HDTV. It records a picture with 720 x 1280 dots, compared with 480 x 720 dots for a normal camcorder.

The result? The detail & resolution is simply phennominal! The colors look great! The video is much more appealing to watch in widescreen because it more closely matches your natural field of vision.

The only thing you need to be careful of is the frame rate. This shoots 720/30P. What that means is it takes video at 30 frames per second. As a result, if the camera uses too fast of a shutter speed you may see a "jitter" in things that move on-screen. The fix is really easy: Simply take the camcorder out of the "auto" mode and lock in a 1/30th of a second shutter speed. This eliminates the vast majority of the jitter. What you are left with is a superb high resolution video with a subtle "film-like" quality.

You don't have to be Stephen Speilberg to appreciate this. This is the ideal camcorder for any type of family video. Think about the great stuff happening today that you'll want to be able to watch 10-20 years from now, and still be happy with the quality.

Nice Little camera for daylight, low-light conditions
This little camera works nice in daylight and low light conditions, but does not work very efficiently on dark areas. Also if you install it close to a glossy surface, like semi-gloss or gloss painted concrete, you will recieve IR bounce that looks like a halo at night. The monitor works nice and the sound is clear. If anyone knows where to buy additional cameras, please drop me a line at emc2_gardo@hotmail.com. Thanks!

Wonderful - I Love it!!
I bought this unit to monitor my barn. I have 17 mares to foal and want to keep a very close eye on them. My barn is over 300 feet away from my house and this unit works beautifully. The monitor works with up to four cameras. I now have 3 cameras hooked up to my unit and am considering buying the 4th camera. Its easy to install, easy to run. I have a crystal clear picture in one stall, and a not quite as good of pictures in the other two stalls which are a little further away. I love this product.

Wireless a good idea?...... maybe not.
This system is a piece of cake to install. Two people make it easier and faster. Make sure you have electrical outlets at both locations where the monitor and camera will go. Then, FIRST take the camera and set it in the area where you will later mount it. Then set up the monitor where you want it. Good picture? Congratulations! Poor picture? Try adjusting the antennas on each device to hopefully achieve good reception. (Poor reception will have rolling lines through it.) Still poor reception? A good house or backyard Toy
I bought this with the hope of using it for wildlife observations while out in the field. I had previous experience with night vision and hoped for a clear view of the surrounding meadows, forests, etc. Not so with this one. I could not see any better than using my own eyes. It works when there is still some light or moonlight but, I can see fine on my own then. I returned it after one use.

It works ok in the house or your local backyard, as it will pick up the street lights etc and make everything bright. Forget it if you intend to use it in the wilderness.

The technology has definately improved in this area but for a good product it appears I will have to spend more money. I'll eat carrots for now. ... Read more

Bad reception even over short distance
I helped my brother-in-law install this into my nephews nursery. Even though the transmitter and the receiver are only about 10 feet apart and only going through the floor the picture has lines constantly going through it. We worked on it for over an hour, but we can't get a good clean image. We determined that a lot of it was caused by 2.4ghz wireless telephones. Which is the same frequency this camera runs off of. However it seems that many other pieces of electronic equipment also cause interference. Cell phones, radios, etc.... I would not recommend this to someone living in an apartment or townhome like my brother in law. Maybe if you didn't have to worry about interference coming in from your neighbors it would give a better picture once you shut down the interference from equipment in your own home. As for the night vision it is actually low light vision. It works great as long as there is some small light source such as a night light. In a completely black room you cannot see anything.

Great quality CCTV camera
My son set the camera up in the baby's room. It functions as designed. Very easy to set-up. Good sound and visual quality. Minor concern is.. How can we order additional camera's?

Hunk of junk
This system has so many problems it's just not worth it. The IR illuminator does no good unless it's a couple feet from what you're looking at. Beyond two feet, my night vision is much much better than that of this camera. When the night vision does work, it's so grainy that it's hard to tell if I'm looking at my daughter or a pillow in her bed. The picture you get flickers white a lot, when the screen is otherwise almost completely black. (My wife didn't realize we had a lightning storm going on at one point, due to the severity of the flickering and flashing.) This system interferes with multiple wireless utilities we have in the house -- our wireless LAN and phones are completely incapacitated when the carma system is active. Who did they bribe at the FCC to get this approved? Also, when we turn on our microwave, the camera system malfunctions and gives no picture. Yuck!

I Love this product. Works great and very clear picture. Found add on camears on e-bay. works well in low light or bright light only thing thats missing is color anyway buy this product if you don't like it return it with in 90 days with your receipt to your local Target store or the online center. But you won't need to !!
