Deceptive marketing
One of the two reasons I purchased this modem was to try the Modem-on-hold capability of V.92 technology. (It is clearly marked on the box as a selling point.) What is missing is the NetWaiting utility. After 5 days and four e-mails to tech support, I was finally informed that the software for the Modem-on-hold does not exist and that they are working on a beta.

It delivers faster connnectivity and speeds higher thatn 56K but if you want the modem-on-hold, go elsewhere. ... Read more

Does all at Great Price
Went in without a hitch. Still on V.90 line and performance over the previous TelePath with X2 by US Robotronic is improved. Can't go wrong for the price.

Great Modem Agere 3025...L
I was looking for a V92 with Modem On Hold that really worked. What I got with the 3025 was excellent speed for a dialup and MOH that worked flawlessly. I believe both the Agere 3025-00-00L and Conexant 3025-00-00C chips were used in this model. I have another machine using the Conexant chip and MOH functions are not dependable. I would definitely recommend the Agere based modem.

Good Performance, [inexpensive] Price
I needed a new modem to replace the US Robotics that died in my windows 98 machine. I bought the Zoom model 3025. It claims to have "lightning protection" which is how my old one died. Hopefully I won't have to test that functionality. I have no technical experience, but this modem was very easy to install and run. It took me less than 10 minutes to install. The connection speeds have been consistently stable and fast, it has V.92 and V.44 for increased speed, and the price was [inexpensive]. If you're going to stay with 56K instead of broadband, then this is a good deal.

Buzzed
I'd bought not 3025L, but 3025C and was very disappointed. After the modem initialization system often buzzes for 5 seconds and doesn't connect. I need try 4-5 times to receive stable connection. But when connection is stable, speed is about 50K.

Slow connection? Forget it!
I don't know how it works with a good connection, but at 16,800 it takes 5-10 minutes to connect and loses it often! Terrible! My old US Robotics was far superior! ... Read more

Excellent
I bought this cable modem primarily because of the Cable Labs certification. Within 5 minutes of calling the cable company and giving them the MAC address, I was surfing the internet. Nothing to set - truly plug-and-play.

Needs a USB connection.
This is a good cable modem with all the right protocols, as well as with ugradeable firmware. However, it is ethernet only, with no option for USB connectivity. As a cable modem should outlive most current PCs (especially if the modem is flash upgradeable), the lack of a USB connection is a serious flaw. I'd pass.

Zoom Does it Again!
The modem is an excellent product. If you have had performance problems with your current internal Windows operated modem (winmodem) give Zoom a try. Since the control is external, it will not use up the system resources performing connection and data flow operations. Although others posted a few concerns about the software, I agree that the best thing to do is install the drivers from the CD - there can be some problems finding the drivers during the Plug and Play (PnP) process. Go to the CD, select your language, then install the drivers. Then you can shut down the computer, hook up the modem, and start things up.

The one item that is not included is a serial cable. Unlike some serial modem cables you will need a cable with a small female end and a large male end serial plug - often the cables will be both end with female ends. This will not work and I just wanted to save you from going back to the store like I did.

After the modem is up and running don't forget one of the great features of having an external modem with external controls - you can upgrade the memory in the external modem. This is called "flash memory". Just go to the Zoom site and make shure that you select the correct modem and chipset and download the file to your desktop. WHen you unzip the file you'll get some instructions on how to upgrade the flash memory. Check back every six months or so to see if there are any additional flash memory upgrades.

The one sore point I have with this product is the voice/fax program that comes free with this item. It is a "lite" version and does the job, but it is a rather dismal showing from Zoom. My wife purchased a Creative Blaster Internal and they had a very nice full featured fax/voice message system with their product. I still give this modem five stars - I never count on the "free" software that comes with any product. They do have a rather nice "ad killer" software program that comes with this package and it also speeds your download times.

Bottom line - you will see a rapid improvement in the performance of your computer and connection with this Zoom product.

This modem rocks!
Zoom is simply the best manufacturer of modems. They have the best hardware, the best software, and dynamite tech support. Most modems have a seven year warranty, which often out-lives the computer they are attached to. If you like blinking lights, you won't be disappointed with Zoom's external modems. This V.92 has fourteen (14) LED's. Do you need to know what they are? Not really; it just looks cool. What is important is this modem blows away my old 56k modem for speed of both data and fax. It installed into Win2K without rebooting. I just changed my DUN's to reflect the new modem drivers and I was logged back into my ISP in less than four minutes (two minutes to plug/un-plug, two minutes in device manger and DUN). Zoom has always been a painless installation and I always get their external modems so I can watch da blinking lights.

Decent connection speeds
Bad manual. "it's on the CD" ugh. What ARE all those lights and what DO they mean??

But, it works so what do ya want?

Oh, the serial cable IS NOT INCLUDED.
