5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT MACHINE!
I bought this in October for my 9yr old son for Christmas (I shop early) and I was on vacation with my 2 sons when it arrived at the house. However, I told my husband to check it out (make sure nothing was broken etc) and to wrap it up then hide it. He ended checking it out for about a week! He says it's the most awesome machine! He didn't want to put it away! Hope my 9yr old gets to play it on Christmas day!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great product for the money
I bought the HTR 5630 even though I could find no other detailed user review on the net. I assumed that the 5400 and 5500 series were getting good reivews and there were NO bad comments abou the 5600 series I might as well give it a try.

This is my first AV reciever and they are paired with Yamaha NS-555 fronts, RCA Pro LS-200 center, generic bookshelfs and a multimedia YST-MS28 subwoofer. The last two coz i ran out of money. But will upgrade both in a couple of months.

The manual is a bit cryptic but the reciever is solid in build and performance. The DSP programs are wonderful, I use it for regular TV watching (you will need to adjust your center volume to make it viable for regular sit com and news watching).

Since its 70W RMS per channel and since I have a medium sized room it a perfect match with the front hardly straining to deliver expection sound.

Still need to figure out how to tune the FM radio (the manual is very cryptic about some stuff). But i am sure i will figure it out.

Great product, Great price, mediocre manaul.

You might have to 'shop around' for the best price and you will be surprised how cheap you can get it. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Looking for an audio system to enhance the visceral power of your DVD player and TV? Yamaha's YHT-300 is just the ticket, offering a cost-effective combination of Yamaha's five-piece NS-AP280A speaker ensemble, the YST-SW005 subwoofer, plus Yamaha's HTR-5540 five-channel home theater receiver, which delivers 75 watts per channel and a host of multichannel decoding and processing options.

The HTR-5540 is a powerful and versatile five-channel receiver, delivering 75 watts to each channel. The receiver provides plenty of processing, including Dolby Digital, Dolby ProLogic II, and DTS digital surround decoding. Yamaha's Quad-Field CINEMA DSP allows enjoyment of Dolby Digital EX and DTS-ES Matrix 6.1 sound formats in the Phantom mode (using 5.1 channels). The HTR-5550 provides 21 surround programs and offers 41 proprietary surround-environment variations. Eager to take on home theater responsibilities, the HTR-5540 has four component-video inputs and one video output. The HTR-5540 has two audio-only inputs and one audio-only output. Including the audio portion of audio-video source inputs, the receiver provides one optical and one coaxial digital-audio input. The rear panel also has input jacks for an external surround-sound decoder.

The six-speaker complement includes the five-speaker NS-AP280A for thefront, center, and surround speakers, and Yamaha's YST-SW005 subwoofer for deep bass, which is important for effective home theater. Each magnetically shielded speaker in the NS-AP280A ensemble is a two-way acoustic-suspension speaker using a three-inch woofer and a .5-inch dome tweeter. The YHT-300 system owes much of its deep bass output to the YST-SW005's Active Servo Technology. The sub features a 6.5-inch driver and a 55-watt amplifier to deliver the necessary sonic punch. A volume control and two-position high-cut filter help ensure a seamless transition from the subwoofer to any existing full-range speakers. All speakers included in the YHT-900 have magnetic shielding, so they can be placed near a TV or monitor without causing picture degradation. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Upset
I ordered this item almost a month ago, and then i get an email saying that they couldnt locate the item to sell me, what a joke.

5-0 out of 5 stars A perfect started Home Theater System
I recently purchased the YHT-300 and I am very pleased with the sound and overall performance. The system is quite easy to set up and start using. I have several components that I run the audio though, but not any video connections. Video connections should be run directly into the TV.

To run my Toshiba 50H82, I needed a Home Theater system. The YHT-300 fits the bill perfectly. The HTR-5540 AV Receiver delivers 75 watts of power to each of the 5 speakers. The stand alone powered Subwoofer has 55 watts of power. This makes the system ideal for smaller rooms, and yet it has the power to fill a large room with clear and crisp sounds. You can adjust the surround sound rear speakers, the center speaker and the subwoofer independently by using the remote control. Whether you are playing video through a VCR, DVD recorder, or a progressive scan DVD, the results will surely please you. Movies played in either Dolby Digital or DTS are remarkably like being in a theater. Remember to set up your DVD player to bitstream for both of these modes.

I would highly recommend the Yamaha YHT-300 to any first time buyer or even as an upgrade to an older home theater system.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent choice for the price
First of all, let me say that the customer reviews are one of the most valuable buying tools I enjoy on this web site. When I first looked at the YHT-300 package,I must admit I was skeptical. However, the positive customer reviews finally convinced me to give it a try. Now, I must join in agreement with those who have stated that this system performs far beyond its ... price. The setup instructions were easy to follow and the receiver is simple to operate. I replaced a 125 watt, 12" JBL subwoofer with the 55 watt Yamaha that came with the package and the Yamaha is definitely the better unit.

A couple of words of advice:

1. While the HTR-5540 receiver supports 5.1 analog input through the 6-channel input mode, unless you are playing DVD audio, I recommend you use either the digital coax or optical connection for your DVD and let the DSP in the receiver handle the decoding. You'll find you have much more control over the way your movies sound.

2. If you are using your DVD player to play audio CD disks, either connect the DVD player to the receiver through the digital coax (which is the default setting for CD input) or connect your DVD player's analog outputs to the analog inputs for CD and change the setting on the receiver. Don't try playing regular, 2-channel audio CDs through the 6-channel input option. The unit will play exactly what it sees on the disk which is 2 channels; one for left main and one for right main. No center, rear or subwoofer signals.

Other than these two notes, just have fun with it! Its an excellent choice for the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars lots of features for the price - five star value
Before I bought this system, I went to a store and played with several home theaters all in the same price range as this Yamaha. I liked its sound more that that of Sony and Kenwood, although it was hard to make a good judgement in a noisy environment. Two weeks after I bought it, I am quite happy with the purchase. The included main, center, and rear two-way speakers are quite small and inobtrusive-looking. The sound quality should be judged separately for movies and for CD music. Indeed, the movie sound consists mainly of conversation and some ambient noises, sound effects, and background music, which do not require too much from the sound system. I am totally satisfied with the sound quality when watching the movies. The sound is clear, and the bass is as powerful as one can possibly need. Playing more demanding music, such as classical CDs, reveals that the sound lacks transparency and depth, particularly when you listen to the music loudly, as it would sound in a symphony hall. I would blame it primarily on low-end speakers. Of course, one should realize that a pair of good speakers designed for high fidelity sound reproduction usually costs more than this whole system including the receiver and the subwoofer. Unlike the speakers, the receiver has very good parameters (0.06% THD at 75 W per channel, frequency response from 10 Hz to 100 kHz at -3 dB , and 100 dB signal to noise ratio) and an excellent selection of decoders: Dolby Pro Logic (to decode Dolby Surround used on VHS tapes, TV broadcast, and digital cable (left, center, right, and one rear channels)), Dolby Pro Logic II (advanced version of Dolby Pro Logic which can create a quasi-5-channel sound from Dolby Surround and create an illusion of surround sound from standard stereo audio tracks), as well as Dolby Digital and DTS (two competiting technologies to record 5 channels of sound plus a low frequency effects channel, therefore labelled 5.1). Additionally, it has a variety of "sound fields" which essentially are the sound reflections in big theaters or cinemas imitated by delaying the signal in selected speakers by several milliseconds. The headphone jack works well. I tested it with my Sennheiser HD600 headphones and found the sound quality to be slightly worse, but close to what I get from a dedicated Creek headphone amplifier. Most functions can be controlled both from the remote and using the buttons on the reciever's faceplate. The number of inputs and outputs is adequate, you can connect 6 audio analog and 2 audio digital sources. The receiver also can redirect the video signal from cable converter or VHS (or DVD player if you do not use component connection) to the TV simultaneously with switching the audio source.

The things that I am unhappy about are minor, but are worth mentioning. First of all, the accessories included with YHT-300 are not sufficient even to try the system out. For instance, a mono audio cable required to connect the receiver to the subwoofer is not included. Likewise, there is no optical or digial coaxial cable in the package which is required to get dolby digital or DTS 5.1 surrounding sound signal from the DVD player (this sound encoding is not transmitted over a regular video-audio RCA cable). Instead, Yamaha included an EXTENSION (male on one end, female on the other) RCA cable - I am still guessing what use it was intended for. The second thing to mention is that the manual could have been written a lot better. Even with my technical background it took me several readings to understand what all these buttons on the remote do.

Overall, it is a very decent system (excellent for the movies, more or less OK to play CDs) and a good value for the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good receiver, good subwoofer
It has a good reciever and subwoofer. One thing is missing from the package, that's the cable to connect subwoofer to the reciever. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great entry level keyboard and great price
This instrument is probably the best buy one can get for way under a grand (no pun intended). It includes some really nice sounds, especially the piano sounds, the organ sounds and the flute sounds.

It has some really nice features and bells and whistles (both literally and figuratively) including very good touch. It is not fully weighted, but is still pretty good.

The only problems I have with it is the weight, which prevents it from being totally portable and the tinny sounding speakers. But this are nit picks because both can be overcome easily enough and what you do get more than offsets the losses.

If you want a keyboard that can do a lot of things, has a lot of great pre-set sounds, is pretty nice looking and can be used either for an inexpensive home piano or as a gigging instrument and with a bench, a stand, and way to record your music as well as being useful as a learning instrument, this is the one. it is fully MIDI ready and has a lot more that I have not yet scratched the surface of. And all for way under a thousand dollars.

I don't think there is anything better for an all-in-one keyboard for this level of expense. A great deal, an excellent instrument. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars big sound from small speakers!
three way small bookshelf speakers...!! have mercy. and yamaha known as a top speaker name too. they replaced some small radio shack jobs i had in my small condo here, not having any room for my former four advents, long gone. these speakers are just smooth sounding as you can get, just so easy on the ears too. you will hear parts of music you may not have heard before if you have older speakers. small and light, easy to place, perfect for a small place, but the sound is quite big, even when cranking up the volume! with a couple of decent rear surrounds they make for great sound. highly recommend them. plus they got here days earlier from amazon than scheduled. great service too. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars What a fun machine!
This is a really fun toy. When I use earphones it has great sound. I like how it sounds louder when the drum pads are hit harder. It also has a very large number of programmable sounds. The only problem is that the drum pads are too small. It is definetly worth it's price but is no substitute for a real drum set.

5-0 out of 5 stars I LIKE IT!
Well when i first seen the DD9M i walked away from it because it was so small. When i was looking around the store for another product to check out.Thats when i heard this great awesome stereo drumming sound.I brought one for a practice pad.Don"t let the looks fool you.The DD9M rocks.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great !!!
I was a little disappointed with this product when I first opened the box. It looked cheap. But, after giving it to my daughter, who is 8, for Christmas, she was thrilled. She loves it, and I dont know who has enjoyed it more...her or the adults. It is great for someone just wanting to learn...wouldnt recommend for a serious drummer, but I ...I mean my daughter, loves it!!!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars A Toy - not a Practice Pad.
It's small, there are no foot paddle inputs, there are limitations to the preprogrammed settings, there's no MIDI output. The sounds are fine, but not spectacular. My eight year old cousin thinks it's GREAT; I think it's substandard. Fine for kids or screwing around; lousy for actual music making. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Value, Easy Setup, Great Sound!
I haven't found a single complaint with this item. Excellent sound quality at low and high volume, Dolby 5.1 AND DTS compatible, easy to setup, easy to use, decent sized speakers (so the wife doesn't go nuts) it's definitely a rock-solid mid-level system. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Dim
When I first bought this it was great. It has plenty of different sounds and features. One thing I didn't like was that after a while, the display screen grows a little dim.Other than that I thought this product was great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sensational Keyboard! A MUST for the beginner!
I was amazed, no, ASTONSIHED by the enhanced sound that this thing makes! It's almost better than owning your own grand piano at such a low low cost! Although I do not own the keyboard myself, I am constantly using my friends system. I love it so much that I am having it purchased for me for Christmas. I love the idea that you can save your compositions onto a floppy and than convert it to midi on the computer. You can even download midis off the internet and have them play right off the keyboard for an easier learning environment. Download the sheet music, and download the song, there you have it folks! Furthermore, there is a WIDE variety of instrumental selection on this monster. I mean, if you select trumpet, it's a TRUMPET! Unlike the older versions of YAMAHA keyboards where every instrument sounds like a computerized immitation. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE REAL THING FOLKS! No cheap immitations here! You'll be playing for hours! There is so much more that I could compliment this keyboard for, but I would be typing for years! ... For parents reading this review, this is by no means a TOY, it's worth the money and you'll soon see your children or teens blooming into Mozarts. It's really incredible! I can't stress that enough! It is seriously just as good as owning a piano.

What makes this product even more exciting is the many accessories you can purchase for this musical maham. A sustaining foot switch is one of the many.

For a cost like what Amazon offers, five stars does not even satisfy the rating this product should receive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delighted
I purchased the PSR340 as a Christmas gift for my retired parents. They both have a history with full sized organs and piano's and they simply love the Yamaha keyboard. I was particularly pleased with Amazon.com's ordering process. I was promptly notified via email of the exact status of my order and received it right on schedule.

Yes, I was rather disappointed that Yamaha chose not to include the power supply but Amazon.com DOES in fact sell it.

Yamaha PA6 Power Adapter for Electronic Keyboards and Drums

4-0 out of 5 stars no power supply
This is a fine keyboard. Unfortunately, Yamaha does not include the power supply, and considers it 'optional' ! So, be aware that you will have to wait up to 30 days for a backordered 10 v power supply, or buy a pallet of D batteries. Amazon does not appear to carry the power supply.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Keyboard!
This Yamaha keyboard does everything! I can hook it up to my computer to write music. The disk drive makes it easy to record music and it acts almost like a player piano. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Yamaha's NS-AP101 package includes an NS-AC2A center-channel speaker and a pair of NS-A76A rear-effects speakers. The center channel is a two-way design incorporating a pair of 5-inch cones and a 2-inch tweeter. The frequency range is 70 to 20,000 Hz, which enables the speaker to naturally reproduce dialog and other important center-channel information. The NS-AC2A is magnetically shielded so it can be placed on a TV or video monitor without degrading the picture via stray magnetic fields. The NS-A76A surround speakers each use a single 5-inch driver with a rated frequency response of 95 to 13,000 Hz. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Rear speakers, OK Center Channel
Bought this system used so take this review with a grain of salt. .... The rear speakers produce great, clear sound. The center channel is not quite as strong, as it is kind of "tingy", but given it was used, you can't expect too much. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great product
Great CD-RW Drive, fast and relatively quiet...and that cool blue light

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellence and a great value!!!
It DOES do everything it claims and then some! This burner will NOT make coasters out of your disk and with blue and purple l.e.d.s it is definitely a welcome change to the sea of green lights that cover my desk. The disk T@2 DOES work fine and is a pretty cool holigraphic type effect on the record side of the disk. It comes with a slew of software, the Nero alone is worth $50. You just CANNOT go wrong with this recorder, it is excellent ...! I am completely satisfied with mine and recommend it to EVERYONE who wants the best. ...

5-0 out of 5 stars You won't find a cooler CDRW drive
To complain about the burned images that this drive can produce is like complaining that your Ferrari's sunroof opens a little too slow :-)

This drive's "Wow" factor will not wear out anytime soon. To geeks, it's incredible that this drive has finally made a consumer priced laser etching system! And to everyone else, these images look sweet! If you look at a T@2'ed image as if it were a Hologram (like the one on your Visa/Mastercard) you can see it just fine. Yamaha has rated the image quality at 250dpi, which for comparison sake is 3 times sharper than any image you find on the web. The images are faint, but not too faint, and it's totally worth the added cost, in my opinion.

The best way to get the sharpest image is to use a CD-R made with Azo dye (the data side looks metallic blue). Yamaha sells these kind of CD's, again at a little higher price than average CD-R discs.

Even without the special features, this drive would be a winner. So for a few more dollars out of your pocket, you get all these incredible features, plus an unbeatable CD-RW drive.

This model is black, but Amazon also carries the White colored version of the drive, the Yamaha CRW-F1ZE. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars DTS, 5.1, lots of inputs & outputs, tremendous sound
I've owned this receiver for 5 years and never regretted this purchase for a second. There are three inputs for fiber optic cable and an input/output combo for fiber optic cable for the tape/md player. This stereo supports 8 speakers: 2 main, 1 center, subwoofer, 2 rear surround, and 2 front effects speakers. I like the 2 front effects speakers because they provide a fuller sound. You have to hear it to believe it. I checked out newer receivers recently and I see more bells and whistles, but not more substantial features or better sound. Check out the specs in the manual available on this page. I would buy this receiver again, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a stereo receiver for music or home theater. ... Read more
