Good Things Come In Small Packages
Great sounding sub for a modest home theater/listening area. The sound is smooth but powerful given the relatively small enclosure. Will it's volume break windows? Probably not. But then if you value your hearing you wouldn't want this one! Yamaha incorporated some pretty spiffy technology into it. If you're looking for a sub that smoothly blends into your "sonic environment" this might be the one. The front mounted controls are a great convenience feature-only wish the cutoff and volume knobs were a little larger and more substantial. Easy and straight forward hookup for either speaker or line level. Might hook up another-one for each stereo channel! This sub's a winner!

Small but powerful
Don't let the small size fool you. This is a very nice sub. It sounds good with music as well as movies and brings a whole new dimension to my listening experience. Great DVD player!
This dvd player was just released in Dec, 2004. I've used it for 5 months so far. It's a great DVD player. It can play everything I throw in: DVD+R, DVD-R, & VCD. Even more, it can play the AVI and MPG files on both CD and DVD media.

The picture quality is great. I have a SONY HDTV and playing movie with progressive scan (480P) is just amazing. The sound, you know what Yamaha is good at. I am quite satisfied with its performance as a whole.

My only complaint is the boot time is a little bit long. When you power it on, it takes around 10 to 15 sec to open the tray, and takes another 10 to 15 sec to identify the disc. Afterwards however, it works like a champ. 5-disc changer is awesome. I can watch drama on VCDs without leaving sofa.

There were three DVD changers I was considering to buy. Onkyo, the same brand as my amp, is my first choice. But it turns out that it doesn't support DVD+R media (or -R, I forgot. I saw the review on Circuitcity's website and some people do prove this point). So I have only two brands left, Yamaha and Sony. The Sony one (DVP-NC875V) is about $30 cheaper than Yamaha. But Sony doesn't support DivX, which means you cannot play AVI files. Besides, Sony is well known to deliver so-so audio quality. Thus I think $30 is quite worthy to invest Yamaha. And Yamaha DV-C6760 is a NEW model. Yamaha can do whatever Sony can and do it much better, while Sony cannot. $30 is not a big difference, then why not pick up a better one?

By the way, if you own this machine, there is a trick to make it REGION FREE. I did it and it works.

great guitar alternative for medically challenged fingers
I was a professional guitar player for years, 20 years ago (closer to 30 years ago) and had to give it up due to insulin dependent diabetes. The damage of 4-5 times a day of finger sticks to test blood sugars and the infections caused by the callouses of many daily hours of playing were just too great for my body to overcome. I haven't been able to play guitar since.

I found this guitar while shopping at a Sharper Image store and was instantly hooked. It doesn't create any pressure on my fingers at all, because the electronic keypads only require a very light touch. It does not have the feel of a real guitar and can't begin to pick up the nuances of play from real strings, but if you are unable to play a regular guitar for whatever reason, it's a great alternative.

The guitar does go momentarily slightly out of tune every time a new chord is played, but it only lasts 1 or 2 seconds and unless you are acutely aware of tone values, probably won't notice the difference, it self tunes immediately. It is easier to pick out songs than a regular guitar because the steel pickup doesn't vibrate the way a regular string will, hence your picking can be both truer and faster than with a regular guitar and no buzzing of strings either.

For a beginner, I can see this as having a fast learning curve, but will probably create some problems with transferring onto a regular guitar because as long as you hit the correct frets, it will give you true sound, which on a regular guitar will never happen unless the correct amount of pressure and the correct fingering is taking place.

I don't know how durable this instrument will be long term but I am currently deeply in love (again).

fun toy for beginners
This is definitely one big toy. But I am having a blast with it so far (it is day 3). I tried to start with a real electric guitar but that was too overwhelming. I have some knowledge of chords but little innate talent. So a tutorial guitar is just what I need to have fun and practice the basics. This is not a substitute for lessons though. You will only learn some rhythm guitar from the midi stuff. Also, you have to let go of any feeling of not liking the midi sound. Still, if you don't have a band, it's nice to strum along to something. I figure if I can learn all of the chords changes programmed into the guitar, I will have a decent background for picking out my favorite tunes. So in sum, the drawbacks are you can't slide down the neck because of the keys, you won't learn any picking from the tutorials and while you get 10 free midi songs from the website, the rest are priced around $6 a shot. Also the tremolo attachment impedes any sort of flashy follow through action with your right hand (but the tremolo comes off easily). I almost forgot to mention that I had a lot of difficulty getting the software to work from the url given in the packaging. After many error messages, I ended up searching for a windows xp update for both the midi usb driver and "song filer" the program used by yamaha to download songs onto your guitar. Even though I can't read Japanese, I went to a Japanese site and bless 'em cuz everything worked like a charm! The strong points are the many sounds you can choose from including 12-string (even though there are only 6 strings), overdrive and distortion. You can just play your own thing or practice one of the programmed selections. The electronic capo is really cool and the tempo adjuster is helpful. I haven't tried alternate tuning yet. But I'm sure it will be fun once I get the hang of it. I will try to write more after more time has passed. First impression generally positive
I have owned this system for about 48 hours now. Setup was standard... almost. Since it doesn't come with a DVD player, they furnish no cables to allow you to connect one to it. No RCA, no S Video, no fiber optic cable. (In fact, come to think of it, I don't recall an S Video connection on the back of this unit. I'm no expert, so I don't know if this is a bad thing or not.) There are a TON of input ports, though, including two fiber optic inputs for your DVD / CD and cable / satellite. Anyhow, setup required two visits to my local hardware store to pick up the necessary cables, and I am now fully connected. Also, so long as I am talking cables, I am pleased to point out they included higher-gauge speaker wire (although not quite enough of it).

Sound is acceptable, for a $300 unit. I don't think anyone would mistake it for a much costlier piece of equipment, but for what I consider a bargain-basement home theatre system, it's pretty good. The Sub stays busy, even while watching golf. I am disappointed that my digital cable system did not have a fiber optic output from the box, but that is a different issue, and obviously not the fault of the Yamaha.

The interface to set your system settings is a little cumbersome. It took me a number of attempts to successfully define my speaker landscape, room size, and all that. I do appreciate that the remote seems quite capable of subsuming the responsibilities of other remotes. It was easy to get it to

Try K-Mart
I agree, the sound output level is a little low, but it was a steal from K-Mart at $99.99! Now if only I could get an adjustable height, screw-on stand for about $25 to go with it....

The biggest dissapointment since andretti racing for ps1
I bought this keyboard, fully intending to have a good time with it and there it was not working! I bought it new and during shipping it must have broken! I lost $179.99 of my hard earned money; Its overpriced, overated, and mine didn't work! I don't know if those people who shipped it were just mocking me or I got the bad end of a bad deal, maybe it is just a piece of junk or am I the victim of a prank? I don't know how it works because as I said mine didn't work! I don't know if you would still want it but I wouldn't take that risk again.

Sort of good( not recommended for hard hearers)
Well i disagree with jimbo but sort of agree.Its outrageously quiet for a keyboard but you may be able to buy an amp. And it is touch sensitive. Did you try that jimbo? If you did you must have been using a hammer because nothing breaks the fourth time you use it! But anyway this review is about the keyboard not an idiot named jimbo. It is good for beginners, but for pros like me it is useless i have a hard rating scale i gave it one star for being good for beginners and the other one because you can't give it zero. I am good with the keyboard but a lot of the music i want to play, you need 81 keys. This board only has 61! I wish i paid more attention when i clicked buy it now, the moral of the review is don't buy it unless you read the reviews carefully, they usually are true.

"boo" a big thumbs way down
Mine broke after the fourth time i used it! The sound was too quiet also! When i tried to play with my buddies in my basement their sound blew mine away they told me to start playing and i was playing! They told me to get a new one or i was out of the group! And they "were" my best friends! I spent all the money i had on it! Please don't don't give these filth mongers the pleasure of getting your money and use it to buy a new toilet the money is better spent down the toilet than on that keyboard!

Excellent Value for Budget
For those who doesn't have enough budget for Piano, this keyboard is for you. This is Yamaha's lowest type among its products that has touch sensitive capability, means you can press the key with your emotion, just like piano. Compare to Casio in the same class LK-50 (also casio's lowest end with touch sensitive), Yamaha produce closer stereo sampled piano sound. This was the highest value of PSR 275 which was being my last minute decision point between the two fighters.

There are better out there.
Don't buy this guitar/amp. You can get a fender for no more than $...they work really well and It will last you a long time wereas this yamaha will only give you limited satisfsaction. So if you're willing to spend only [this much] on a better guitar and a little more money on a MUCH better amp don't buy this set.

great guitar
I bought this guitar when i was 15 now i'm 17 and i still have the same guitar, its still in great condition and great sound still comes from it. This guitar might cost less than other guitars but the tone, the harmonics its amazing how good this guitar sounds. I recomend everyone wanting to be a guitarist or for a gift for a friend to buy this great Yamaha guitar. It's great, no flaws at all.

Great for beginners
I love this guitar. It is well built and great if your a beginner. It even includes an amplifier. $200 for a guitar and amp: great. It has cool tuning machines. I have a more advanced guitar though now. I have a BC Richard's now because this one got too small for me and my fingers don't fit on one string now. I recommend BC's if your advanced but the Yamaha guitar is good for people just starting or for the younger people.

Let there be Light
We got this keyboard just before Christmas 2003. Due to the pace of daily life, I haven't gotten too deeply into it. But since it has been several months and no one else has reviewed it, I'll start the ball rolling. The reason why I purchased THIS keyboard because it has a touch sensitive (velocity) and lighted keyboard. The only other model that fit this description was the Casio LK-55. I just thought the Yamaha sounded a bit better and was made a bit better. It is also more expensive. The sounds are quite good. There is an XG lite implementation as well as the standard General Midi soundset. The lighted keys make it easy to learn.

I have been too busy to hook it up to my computer yet to try out the downloading of General Midi sequences, but I am looking forward to it. The supplied USB cable is too short unless your keyboard is right up against your computer.

I was disappointed to find out that the only MIDI implementation is through a USB interface. There are no midi in and out jacks, so I couldn't hook this up directly to my other MIDI keyboard.

I'd love for Yamaha to come out with a version that had regular Midi jacks, pitch and mod wheels and an audio input (with reverb) for sing alongs. I'd pay double the price for those additions. For what you pay, I'd say you get your money's worth and then some. ... Read more
