4-0 out of 5 stars Great phone but...
I have owned this phone for over a year. It is great phone, never failed me. I have dropped it countless times and yet it never dies on me. The battery life is very good. I can hear the speaker perfectly (you can adjust the volume). And the phone looks great, a plus!
However, like everything good, it does have its flaws. First of all, you can't get TOO far from the base or you will hear a very unpleasant static beep noise sort of thing on the phone. Also, I don't know why, but the forward caller ID button no longer works. But there's always the backward button, so then it's ok.
In conclusion, I would say this phone is a good buy, but remember: if you plan on walking a long distance from the phone's base, then I don't recommend this phone.

5-0 out of 5 stars cool@!
I luv this phone! It looks cool and it works perfectly! Everyone should own one! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

The VTech 1920's 900-MHz frequency offers better range than traditional cordless phones and features digital transmission for enhanced clarity and privacy. Plus, with caller ID/call waiting, you'll know who's calling before you pick up the phone.

To set up the phone, we inserted the battery pack (included), plugged in the AC power, and connected the standard RJ-11 phone cord. You can also insert and charge a second battery pack (not included) in the base unit to either power the base unit during an electric outage or for use as a spare handset battery.

You control the VTech 1920 through 11 buttons on the handset (in addition to the usual 0-9, *, and #). Although setting up and programming the phone is straightforward and intuitive, the instruction manual is useful for reviewing advanced features and caller ID functions. Note that you cannot program the caller ID system with your local area codes. When dialing from caller ID memory, the phone supports only seven-digit automatic dialing; you must supply the area code (and the prefix "1" if necessary).

In our test of the VTech 1920, we placed the base unit in a typical home, where walls, floors, and other obstructions might interfere with signal quality.

We made a variety of local and long-distance calls, and the phone sounded only slightly softer than our reference corded desk phone. We noticed some signal degradation--static and the sound cutting in and out--when we moved the handset about 100 feet from the base. At about 200 feet, the phone activated its auto channel-searching feature. At this distance the phone could not find a clearer channel and became unusable until we returned the handset to the base. This is the tradeoff for the superior clarity of digital transmission--the phone stops working abruptly when the signal weakens beyond a certain point.

With its terrific price, digital 900-MHz transmission quality, call waiting caller ID, and well-chosen set of features, the VTech 1920 makes a great, general purpose cordless phone.

Pros:

  • Good value
  • Modern styling
  • 900 MHz digital transmission for clarity and privacy

Cons:

  • Automatic dialing from caller ID memory supports only 7 digits

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Quality!...Excellent Value!
if you are looking for a low cost cordless phones with caller id and features that some of the more outrageously expensive phone have, this phone is perfect for you. it has a well lit display and keypad, 20 number speed dial,Hold, and Flash options. you can also keep an extra battery charging in the base.the phone has a very small foot print, the headset easy for someone with small hands to grasp. the caller id display is large and easy to read. only two minor drawbacks, the ringer isnt very loud. the display doesnt give you all the information at a glance, you have to press buttons on the keypad to find out time and the name of who called. other than that the phone has performed outstandingly! no static or reception problems at all

2-0 out of 5 stars A very mediocre phone...
The phone is ok, nothing more. The reception from outside callers is fine, but when I talk, my own voice in the earpiece has significant static--it's pretty annoying!

The phone is heavier then I thought it would be (Maybe all 900MHZ phone are, my old cordless was analog) and it's not very comfortable when holding it with your shoulder and no hands.

I live in a relatively small apartment and was surprised that when I went to another room (maybe 50 feet away) the calls would cut out! And this is why a bought a 900 mhz digital phone!

Finally, a complaint would be the apparent inability to program the numbers into memory alphanumerically. In other words, I have to scan through a list of phone numbers, instead of seeing, "Mom and Dad", "Office", etc.

I probably would have sent it back, but unfortunately, I tossed the box, so I guess I'll live with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone
I've had this phone for almost 3 years, and have never had a problem with it. It's very clear and the reception is good, and I am just now replacing the batteries for the first time since I bought it. I would highly recommend this to anyone I know.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great phone with good range
I've had this phone for about a year now, and have had no problems. The charge lasts a long time and I can take it throughout my home and yard and hear clearly. The caller ID function is useful when you are busy and not sure if you should pick up the phone.

1-0 out of 5 stars VTech is a no-go
As another reviewer said, the volume is insufficient, even when turned up to maximum. With the slightest background noise, you will not hear the other party. Would try a Toshiba, but reviewers have had battery problems. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

VTech's 4121 four-line phone with caller ID/call waiting is a capable model that wouldn't look out of place in mission control at NASA. It has a few drawbacks, but for the money it's an excellent phone for a small business user.

Besides support for four telephone lines, the 4121 offers a two-line caller ID display that is easy to read, comes with 18 dedicated speed-dial buttons, has a speakerphone and intercom, and handles three-way conference calls. Sound quality through the corded handset was excellent, and we also got good results when using a headset with the built-in headphone jack. The speakerphone on the base also worked well, thanks in part to the volume buttons that let us fine-tune the speaker output.

The caller ID can remember the phone numbers and names of the last 99 callers. Considering the size of the phone, it would be nice if the LCD screen displayed three lines of information, but the two-line display works adequately. Our only other complaint with the 4121 is that many of the buttons are needlessly small. The speed-dial buttons are tiny little nubs, and all the buttons have small labels that are hard to read from across a desk. Regardless, there are few phones at this price level with similar features that can be expanded into an up-to-12-station setup, so the 4121 might be just what your business is looking for. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Handles up to 4 lines
  • Caller ID memory is handy
  • Headset jack is a nice touch but requires an additional investment

Cons:

  • Some of the buttons are tiny
  • Button labels can be hard to read

1-0 out of 5 stars Useless
I had high hopes for this product but between the fact that you cannot adjust the ringer volume separately for each line and the annoying delay on tones when you dial a number, it isn't going to me much use to me unless I find a location where I can hear the appropriate bells ringing from another phone and don't ever have to dial out.

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware: The hold button doesn't work as expected
In addition to the annoying delay when you dial numbers, when you put someone on hold with this phone, and then take the call on another phone and then you hang up, the VT4121 doesn't release the line. You need to go to the VT4121, and pick up and then hang up the line. VTech support says this is normal, and they tried to tell me that all phones behave this way!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great phone
I am very pleased with this phone, it didn't cost alot and it seems to work very well. We have eleven of them in our house. I use the intercom and paging features alot. It doesn't have call waitig with called ID(which is no big deal because I don't have call waiting, I have other incoming calls forwarded to another line). The only thing I wish it had that most other phones like this have is a battery back-up. If the power fails, I have to reset the clock on each phone. Other than that, compared to other 4-line phones, they were a bargain. I got them at different stores over time between $50-$80 each.

4-0 out of 5 stars 4 line wonder
While one reviewer was unhappy line identifier was not automatically supplied, (this is of course a line supplier item not a phone supplier item only.)the phone itself has large easily used buttons, with easy to see at a glance red indicator lights. It does every thing the instructions cover, you can even program a time delay before the second line rings. It works well with other phones on our line (which were A T & T )- While we rated it a 4 star it is really a four star plus - oh and it also accepts headphone operation, something most other phones in this area do not.

3-0 out of 5 stars Wrong Information
I ordered this phone based on a number of its features. Unfortunately one of the most important for me was the Caller ID/CW. The phone does not have this feature. I contacted Vtech myself after receiving the phone to verify, and I am correct. Do not order this phone if you want that specific feature. I really can not rate the rest of the phone. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone
Before I had this phone I had a piece of junk Budweiser phone. When I bought this I knew the true meaning of phone. I about any neon color you'd like, this V-Tech Phone is a great thing to have in any home. With a crisp, clear sound, you can pick up anything. Also this phone has a great ringing system that will ensure that you get all of your calls.

So, if you need a really good, cheap, and good looking phone, this V-Tech is for you. Buy this phone and you will experience the true meaning of phone.

HAPPY CONVERSATION!

3-0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive, mediocre sound, good otherwise
We bought this phone because my daughter thought it was cool looking and it was the right color. Beyond that, this phone was inexpensive and is a decent performer.

You are not paying for fancy features, or digital clarity and security. And you don't get those for free. If you desire a great phone you need to spend $60-100 more. Sound quality is acceptable, though there is a constant hiss in the background, regarless of how far from the base you are. The hiss is not a problem at the lowest volume setting, but it gets worth as the volume goes up.

For us the bottom line is that color and coolness are more important, so this one is a keeper.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Value
Bought this on a whim to temporarily replace the $120 Sony while it was being serviced. This phone actually performed BETTER than the digital spread spectrum phone I had been using. And if it breaks, I can just buy 4 or 5 more! Don't be scared off by the low price, the sound quality is great and I haven't had any problem with the range.

4-0 out of 5 stars PERFECT Phone for ANYONE!
I've owned one of these phones for a year or so now, and it has been the best one I've ever purchased! The only reason I didn't give it 5 Stars is because it doesn't have some of the features that I like, like Caller ID in the handset or headset jack, etc. But, they've got a great range, they're sturdy (I lost count how many times I dropped mine!) and they sound nice (not tinny or over sensitive like some other phones). This is the PERFECT gift for a kid who is wanting a phone of their own. In fact, that's why I am buying another one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Well Worth The Money !!
I have owned Uniden, AT&T, Panasonic & GE cordless telephones, but none compare in quality, durability, ease of use and sound quality. I purchased the one I have at Office Depot on clearance and could not be happier. I have just purchased 2 additional here at Amazon for my parents and extension use. The price here is actually better than I originally paid at clearance. My wife and son have dropped and knocked this telephone around more than a prize fighter gets pounded in 15 rounds. This is a definite recommend!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Well worth the money
This phone has been dependable and well worth the price. My only complaint is that it seems to be impossible to turn off the ringer.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great while it lasted
This phone offered clear sound and decent range while it lasted, but it wasn't very durable. It quit working and I had to replace it less than a year after the original purchase. If price, sound quality and range are more important to you than durability, it might be a good value for you. If you want something that will stand up to a lot of use and that you won't have to replace anytime soon, keep looking. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good phone considering the price, but the battery isn't good
For the price, the phone is an excellent bargain. But the battery discharges too fast. Since since I got it really cheap using a coupon from UnderTag.com, I can't really complain.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good sound, battery died prematurely; battery no longer made
I bought this phone for Christmas of 2000; it gave a good performance until very recently. Sound was good on it, no echo, no static. However, exactly six months after purchase, the battery died and I've been informed that the battery is no longer made. There is no reason that the battery should have died this early, as we always kept the handset on the charge cradle. I'm glad this phone didn't cost much or I would be pretty mad about the 6-month life.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone for the Price
I wasn't expecting much when I bought this phone since price was my main consideration. But I have been pleasently surprised. The phone is sleek, clear sound, has a good range, and holds a nice charge. The volume settings are perfect. The Loudest setting actually is LOUD! When I go outside while on the phone, I have yet to hear static. Great phone for the price! I'd buy one again.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing product
I purchased the VTech 9108 primarily for its affordability, easy to use features, its sleek styling, and its light weight. Unfortunately, after about a month of use in a single person household (i.e. I don't have kids and I never dropped it!), static during calls increased, along with odd clicking sounds. Progressively, the phone has worsened so that the channel changer does not have any effect. I overhear other people's calls frequently, and the static increases so significantly after about 7 minutes of talk time (something in the phone wiring must be heating up after a certain amount of use), I can't even hear the other person. The warranty which requires one to send the product back insured, followed by weeks of waiting for the company to decide whether to fix the phone or send you a new one isn't really worth the effort and the fact that one has to get a new phone anyhow during the wait. Very disappointing phone.

1-0 out of 5 stars USELESS
I bought this phone and it does not work after 2 months. Nothing was spilled in it and it wasnt dropped. None of the buttons work and I will never buy a vtec phone ever again. I will also inform others as well about its defects. I don't even have enough money now to replace it. Thank you for nothing.
