Horrible performance
This hub is possibly the worst USB hub I have ever used- it loses connection when placed vertically as well as the fact that it seems to work completely sporadically. I definitely would discourage any would-be buyers from this item. Strangely, all the other Belkin equipment I use works swimmingly- perhaps this is simply an anomaly in their lineup.

Stylish but technically lacking
When I received this 7 port hub, I had high hopes. It looks nice, has 5 ports in the back and two convenient ports on top. But it has two very odd weaknesses.

First, when you plug it in, a red power light comes on and all 7 port lights are lit. What good are the port lights if they are lit even when no device is plugged into that port?

The other odd behavior is that devices that are plugged into the hub are powered on even if the host's USB port is not powered up (i.e. the computer is off). In fact, the devices are always powered on even if the hub is not even connected to the host. My computer is off, but my USB illuminated keyboard is still illuminated, my USB microphone's power light is on, my USB wireless network's power light is on, etc.

The behavior of these two issues seemed so odd (lights always on, devices always powered) that I assumed it was due to a defective part. So I called Belkin's technical support. The guy who answered was very rude and impatient. He basically stated "that is how the hub works". When I asked him if he could show me where this odd behavior is documented, he told me "it is not documented, but that is how it works and if you don't like it, return it and get another brand of hub". Macintosh Compatibility
According to Macintouch, Belkin provides Mac OS X and 9 drivers. Can anyone tell me how well this works with a Mac? I'd buy one immediately for my old tangerine iMac (it's the only computer left out of my wireless network at home.).

I did see a comment that it didn't play well with an Airport Base Station... how about Linksys? Thanks, and if I decide to buy, I'll update this to reflect my experience.

Works with Mac OS X 10.2.4 & TiVo Series 2 SVR-3000
I'm buying another one of these for my Mac because my Sony TiVo Series 2 SVR-3000 just acquired Software Version 4.0-01-2-110 and it works flawlessly with a Linksys WAP. (The Belkin software for Mac is nice if you don't have an AirPort Basestation because it can convert an alphanumeric password to hexidecimal and vice versa. AFP works too.) Attached to the TiVo, the Belkin works great using TiVo Home Media Option and Rendezvous. I have streamed iTunes and iPhotos pictures from my PowerBook G4 with an AirPort card and iMac with an AirPort Extreme card. (Tip: Make sure Mac OS X's Firewall isn't blocking the port TiVo needs to Rendezvous with your Mac.) Streaming audio, video and connecting to TiVo over the Internet works fine too. Now I just need to upgrade to more TiVo Series 2 systems so I can stream shows to different rooms! Amazon should sell these sleek Belkin adapters in bulk... :)

Doesn't work for ME or XP
Like you, i'm trying to set up a wireless network; i'd like to connect my old computer (running Windows ME) to my newer desktop running XP. I bought this device at Staples b/c of its price and because it clearly stated it supported XP and ME. Well the drivers were no good for WinME, even the newest drivers from their website would not install correctly. So it was a dead appendage. Their tech support suggested I try it on a third computer we have, it runs XP. Well it installed fine, but could not link to my network (Netgear router), even after tweaking the router settings. He said he was getting a lot of calls with the exact same problem and suggested I return it and try another device. If possible I'm going to get a refund and buy a little better one - maybe a PCI wireless adapter, instead of the bottom of the barrel cheapo which is my wont. When will I learn? Learn from my mistakes folks and move along - nothing to see here.

Works Great!!! For about 2 months.
I installed this wireless network adapter on my desktop (windows xp). It worked very well for two months, then just unexpectedly died. I would try to reinstall it several times off the product CD, each time telling me a different file was missing, even though the files appeared to be installed (at least I could see them in on my hard drive). Downloaded the drivers from the Belkin website, but that also failed to get this thing to work. This adaper would be recognized by XP, detect the network signal, but it would always tell me "connection failed". Spend your money on a more robust wireless adapter.

WinXP + WEP == Choose ANY other product than this one.
First, the drivers packaged with this unit DID NOT WORK. Had to go to belkin.com and download the latest drivers (not the simplest thing to do without a functioning network adapter, eh?). While those drivers sort-of work, they are still extremely flaky. Not signed/certified by microsoft.

I use WEP to secure my network... this device does not retain the WEP key/settings after a reboot. So, every single time you reboot, you have to re-enter the WEP key and manually start the driver utility.

Signal is very weak - if the signal is lost for too long then the system will eventually hang and reboot itself.

I've been a computer professional for the better part of 10 years now and I'm convinced that ANY product would be better than this Belkin POS. Avoid this product at any price. ... Read more

Plug and Play
I just bought my iPod for the windows and needed to upgrade my PC to USB 2.0. I went looking around for a USB 2.0/Firewire card and noticed that the ones that were listed on amazon have terrible reviews. Many of the issues were with configuration and many were just terrible products. I really needed to get the card quick because my iPod was just sitting there doing nothing, so I decided to thrown caution to the wind and try it out. I blocked out severals hours of my day thinking that it would be a nasty process. However, I plugged it in and it just worked! No configuration issues or anything. Great networking alternative, works with XP and 2003
I required a second network card to setup a multihomed server using Windows 2003. Since I was out of PCI slots on my server this adapter was a definitive blessing; it is also an excellent alternative for laptop users and for people who don't feel comfortable opening their computer cases. The adapter's cable length is about a foot 1/2 long, which I think is adequate for most people; it also has a power LED which also serves as a network status indicator.

I also tested the adapter with Windows XP and did not require the CD to set it up (Windows 2003 did require the CD).

Note:
If you install this adapter with your system powered on, you will get an error message indicating a problem starting the device, this is normal and will go out after restarting.

So far, performance has been consistent and it has been 100% stable.

I hope that my review helps in evaluating this device.

Pretty good on OS X
Although there's no documentation about OS X, it's simple to set this thing up (in 10.3.3): just open the Keyboard & Mouse preferences, choose Bluetooth, and click "Set up new device..." and push the connect button on the bottom of the mouse.

And while there's no OS X support for the third (thumb) button, you're still a right-click and a scroll wheel ahead of Apple's own Bluetooth mouse offering... for less money.

Poor Macintosh OSX Compatibility
Zero documentation for installation and setup on Mac -- I had to download a PDF from their website and ultimately email Belkin Tech Support for help.

Once I got the mouse basically working, I asked them how to configure the various buttons. Out of the box, the side button does nothing. Belkin told me "We don't have any special software to program the buttons but you may be able to find a third-party application"!! Clearly their Mac OSX support is an afterthought. Bad Choice
IT's not USB 2.0, with the same amount of money you can buy a USB 2.0 Hub that will work better.

Not Recomended.

A world of trouble
Don't buy this! I used this on a Mac. It worked OK when I just had a couple of devices on it, but when I added a Wi-Fi USB adapter, it caused frequent computer crashes on startup, loss of Internet connection, and freezing of my mouse. I thought it was the adapter's fault, but after reading the reviews here, I bought a D-Link USB hub to replace it. Haven't had a problem since!

Worked fine, then died
This hub worked fine for over a year, and then stopped working completely (lights don't go on).

Avoid like the plague (or suffer a heartbreak)
I've had this hub for a while and it worked fine (even though the AC adapter was a little bit clunky). But recently I tried attaching an 802.11b receiver via the USB and the thing wouldn't work after 3 days of use - Windows reported it being an Unknown Device. Plugging into the back of my computer would still report the same problem - I figured the wireless adapter was faulty. But then...

The other day I plugged a trusty Sidewinder into the hub to play some old games. Tonight the same thing happened - Windows now refuses to recognize the gamepad I've used faithfully for years now. I am convinced this hub is the culprit. Spend a little more money to buy a hub whose quality you can really depend on!

Perhaps this was purely my own experience with a faulty hub, but I'd strongly recommend you consider another product - you may be putting your expensive electronics at unnecessary risk.

Intermittantly works
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Most of the time, I have to cycle around through the ports, and then if I'm lucky it will recognize the device. Good Ctrl, Promising Software (doesn't work always)
Nice controller, comfortable, Plug n play. No problems, if the game detects the buttons, but had problem with quake 3, with the controller activated, the whole screen started going round and round (spinning). MDK 2 worked great though with analog controls. The analog controls work fine in Unreal tournament as well.

The software is promising but could not get much out of it. The best use is to use it as plug and play and enjoy the games it supports.

Same problem as others with gamepad
The D-PAD (the directional pad) needs to be calibrated constantly just to keep working. I was using it for about an hour for a game after I bought it, then the next day I went to use it and when playing a game it was pulling to the right constantly, so I had to recalibrate it. On the calibration screen in windows, you can see the little calibration cursor vibrating almost and on another calibration screen it literally jumps around. It never returns to 'center' when you move it, it's always off-center, even after calibration.
There is definately something wrong with the analog DPAD they use in this Gravis Eliminator gamepad - go buy something else instead and STAY AWAY from this gamepad. This is the same problem a lot of other people are complaining about it, and they haven't fixed it (and probably wont). I bought this gamepad around April 15, 2004 brand new.

Worst gamepad controller I ever bought
The position of the analog controls are awkward and the buttons are all different than any other controller of it's type. I tried reprogramming and that didn't help. Could not use it.

Great Flexability, Not so Great Price
I bought the Belkin 7-Port USB Busstation Modular Hub because I was in need of a great number of USB ports for a server of mine. While the price was a bit outrageous origionally, I happened to find it on clearence and scooped it up.

It works very well, looks pretty nice, and having the flexability of the different modules Belkin makes could be handy.

A great USB 1.1 Hub for [the money], but not for [more], considering the cost of the additional modules.

Poorly written drivers & no Mac support
I have had this USB tower for 3 years and still have not been able to get it to work correctly with my computer. Don't by Belkin adapters if you are a Mac user. Belkin's drivers don't work properly with Apple software, they prevent the startup of your computer if you have them plugged in & they conflict with other drivers. Belkin has never updated their drivers for Mac computers so they actually work properly. I have wasted $$$ buying the tower, a serial adapter & a SCSI adapter, none of which work properly. My older Keyspan serial adapter works much better. I have complained numerous times, but Belkin doesn't respond to any customer complaints/feedback.

Super item but price holds this puppy down
How many of you own more than 4 USB devices on one computer? Even if you have 3 USB devices, you are probably about to trash that little 4-port USB hub you just bought. That's where this 7-port USB hub comes in.

It would probably be messy to daisy chain more than one 4-port USB hub. This 4-tier, 7-port USB hub is totally expandable. You can change this modular hub into any combination, ranging from 4-USB ports to 12-USB ports to adding a serial port, etc.

At the high price, it's kinda hard to purchase if you're trying to upgrade from a 4-port USB hub to this ... . ... Read more
