No problems so far
I've had the D-Link DUB-H4 USB 2.0 4-Port Hub for about a week now. I've been using it with a Dell notebook running Windows XP. So far, the only devices that I have connected to it are an 80 GB external hard drive, a multifunction printer/scanner, and my Nikon Coolpix 3200 digital camera, all of which are devices that support USB 2.0. And like my title says, I've had no problems so far. All of the devices are running at USB 2.0 speed, and everything is running fine.

USB mouse periodically freezes
I have a laptop without PS/2 ports so I needed a USB hub to connect an external keyboard (MS Natural Elite) and mouse (MS Optical Wheel Mouse). Unfortunately, the mouse freezes for a complete second during high CPU times (about every ~1-10 minutes). I bought a much smaller SIIG USB 2.0 mobile/notebook hub (not the "mini hub" one which is bigger), and it doesn't have these problems. With the SIIG, you don't have to use the AC adapter, unlike the D-Link.

I ordered this Product on June 10th, late in the afternoon, I received it, via UPS, on June 11th, early in the afternoon.

I couldn't BELIEVE I received the Product in LESS than 24 HOURS.

And it works perfectly. Simple instructions - plug it in and it works like a charm.

After 2 months, the firewire component of this product short-circuited and fried all connected firewire components including the firewire port on my CPU motherboard. D-link will not accept liability for any damage caused by this malfunction. This hub acted as a conduit for $2500 damage to my computer system. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!

Five Stars, but it is a 6 port hub
As previously stated the DFB-H7 hub really only adds three additional USB 2.0 ports and 1 additional firewire port. But the hub is perfect if you want your ports closer to you while working. I have my desktop PC under the desk and the hub on top of the desk and it works perfect. I like the DFB-H7 much better than the GE USB 2.0 hub, which is much more compact and will now be used with my laptop. As the packaging says the DFB-H7 is for desktop use.

Only 2 additional Firewire ports when using with a computer!
Having a Mac, I want to be able to expand the number of USB & Firewire devices and this seemed like a great choice, 4 USB, 3 Firewire. Perfect. Well not quite. You only get a *total* for 3 Firewire ports, including the one you'd have to hook up to a computer. For USB though, you get 4 USB ports, and one additional port to hook up to the computer. Sure, you don't have to have Firewire connected to a computer, unlike USB, but what would be the point of buying a hub with both USB and Firewire if you weren't going to hook it up to a computer for both things? Just be aware of that if you buy this product. -1 star for misleading product naming, and -1 star for not actually providing 4 total Firewire ports. ... Read more

Fast Easy Set Up, Great Product
Received this product and was up and running in minutes.

I am very pleased that the directions were easy to follow, and that the unit performed as stated. Hooked up an old windows 98 slow computer with the USB adaptor. IT just plugs right in. Loaded the software, and immediately could surf the internet at cable modem speed. AAAAA++ for simplicity and doing what the product description states.

Great, but download new firmware first...
Pro: Very fast setting up to get wireless connection and the speed was pretty good at 24-36 Mbps.

Con: But I have no luck connecting it to my broadband cable ISP for over 90 min of fruitless tweaking (I'm an IT guy and consider myself geek), I decided to give it a shot upgrading firmware before calling up the tech support... Bingo, it worked!

Con: One reason it took me over 90 min troubleshooting... almost every configuration change requires a router reboot! It certainly beats Microsoft, Netgear, and Linksys on that.

Con: Btw, you can't forward a range of ports to a specific host, you have to specify port by port.

Con: if you want to secure your network by using MAC address filter to prohibit unauthorized access, you have to put in the MAC of your wireless clients, as well as the MAC of the wired clients. I don't know why D-Link would consider wired eithernet client a risk.

Pro: But once you set it up properly, the router works fine.

Great Product!!!
I like this product. It comes with a 802.11g, 54Mbps router and a USB 1.0 adapter. So, everyone has high speed internet and a computer can have wireless internet using the D-Link DWL-922.
The performance is excellent. It did not slow down the connection speed. One tip for those who brought the DWL-922. Log on the web-site and find the appropriate installation precedure. This product does not install easily on windows xp. It created conflicts on my machine. It is definitely not "plug and play." I would not purchase this product. Fast & Easy
There's not much to say about this product. I just plugged it in and instantly forgot about it! I was a bit skeptical because most USB hubs tend to be a bit pricier, but the D-Link hub works great and it can't get any easier to set it up. I love the compact design as well. This one is definately a no-brainer.

Easy to Install
I first went to local retailers to comparison shop and found competitive products generally priced two to three times as much. So, I decided to give the D-Link a try. I powered down my Hewlett Packard running Windows ME and installed the new hardware. I chose to use the optional AC Power adapter, because I was hooking up the "Viking - Intelliflash smart card reader" and wanted to ensure enough power.

Upon rebooting Windows ME automatically recognized the product and installed the required driver. I verified the installation under "control panel/system/universal serial bus controllers." It was newly listed as a "general purpose USB hub." I can't imagine anyone having problem adding this hub to his or her existing system.

I give it a perfect 5 for ease of installation and excellent value.

Not all USB products are compatible with this hub
While this hub installed easily and works without much interaction, I've found that there are many USB products that will only work when plugged directly into the computer (and fail completely when plugged into this hub). Some examples are the Microsft wireless optical mouse (which is the whole reason I bought this hub), my HP writable DVD drive and an M-Audio audio interface.

I'm not sure if this is the fault of D-Link or the other manufacturers, but there are enough products that will not work with it that I wonder about the compatibility of this hub.

Works great!
I have had this for awhile and have not had any problems. I have a camera and some other things plugged into it. It is nice not having to worry about running out of USB connections.

Problems with Windows 2000
Same problems as others. The machine hangs up while rebooting. I have to unplug it to reboot the machine and then plug it in. It doesn't even work with my Webcam (Intel PC Camera Pro). Guess I made a Bad choice when I bought it. Stay away from it!! ... Read more

The only problem we've ever had with USB ports is not having enough of them. Theoretically, you should be able to connect dozens of devices to a single USB port, but manufacturers rarely make products with the requisite pass-through port that makes this possible. This means most computers that support USB are equipped with only enough ports to accommodate two measly USB devices. If you find yourself frequently swapping USB devices, consider investing in a USB hub such as D-Link's DSB-H3SP.

As the name implies, this hub has three USB ports, although the device connects to a USB port on your PC, so it really is like adding two extra USB connections. Still, those extra ports are handy, letting you connect (for example) a USB mouse, USB modem, USB scanner without ever having to unplug one device to make room for another.

D-Link doesn't stop there--it also sports a serial port and a parallel port. We attached a modem to the serial port and a printer to the parallel port, and both ran without a hitch, even when all the USB ports were filled. Status lights on the front of the device kept us appraised of the activity on each port.

We had no trouble installing this product--not surprising, considering it is a USB device. The DSB-H3SP comes with a USB cable, a power supply unit, and a thin installation manual that we didn't even have to glance at during setup.

We had only two small problems with the DSB-H3SP. The most annoying was that booting Windows took anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute longer when the device was active than when it was disconnected. This was likely due to the initialization of the serial and parallel ports, as few pure-USB hubs we've looked at exhibit this behavior. Our other quibble was with the power cord. The DSB-H3SP requires external power, but the plug from the power supply is tiny and easily detaches when jostled. There were a few occasions when we added or removed a USB device and inadvertently dislodged the plug from its socket. We were forced to reboot the computer but nothing more dramatic happened as a result. These minor issues aside, the device worked as expected, and going back to a two-port USB configuration was unthinkable after we'd tested the hub for a few weeks. --T. Byrl Baker

No support!
I found that the DSB-H3SP HUB was not very easy to install. I found installation problematic. This is the fourth time I tried to install unit and was unsuccessful. I can not find any information on the D-Link web site related to the DSB-H3SP. A search of the web site in fact did not find a single item. A call to D-Link tech support was of little help!

Stay Away!
While this product was fine when operating under Windows 98 SE, I was never able to find Windows ME combatible drivers for it. In fact the D-Link site doesn't even list drivers for it. You can find them in their ftp site, but they are not fully ME compatible. Under Windows ME, I could get the USB ports to work and the parallel port (if I reinstalled the driver every time I rebooted). However, I could never get the serial port to work. I recently tried to install the hub on a Win 2K machine. I should not have wasted my time. I recently found a reference to the Belkin F5U012 on a windows 2K compatibility site. The site claims that these two units are identical and the drivers for the Belkin should work for the D-Link. I have yet to test this claim. All of this begs the question, though -- why struggle with the D-Link when the Belkin ships with the correct drivers. Things that make you go "Hmmmmmmm."

D-Link does it again!
The DSP-H3SP is a great device for providing more elbow room on the USB bus. The serial and parallel ports install automatically and provide transparent support for any device you can connect. I had trouble with a Palm Pilot on my mainboard COM port; I plugged it into the H3SP and it worked perfectly! Overall Good
bought this D-Link hub about 18 months ago, works excellent. the ethernet port is always being used for my cable modem (ethernet seems to be the best way to connect a cable modem) and i have all 3 usb ports used. the drivers must be installed for the ethernet feature to work right. Works good under windows 98 (first editon) but i had a tough time getting drivers installed without freezing the machine. Now i use Windows 2000 Pro and it works excellent. drivers are easy to install. D-link tech support staff competant with difficult problems, but the hold time can be long. This product works well and would be good in notebook applications.

It Would Be Better With A Manual
Mine came quickly but when I opened the package there was no manual even though the package indicated there should be one. I e-mailed E-Link giving them the details and the serial number of my unit. Their initial response was that the whole package would have to be returned because they do not have any drivers or manuals available online or to mail.

I fired off a strong protest and they e-mailed the missing manual the next day in PDF format (which was fine with me). Interesting approach to say the least! Not that there was that much in the manual but I couldn't tell that without seeing it.

I've installed the USB hub portion and it works just fine. It will be a while before I can try out the ethernet portion. ... Read more

This is a nice 'little' USB hub at a very reasonable price. If your looking to network a few computers together this is a good choice.
