5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT PRODUCT!!! Go 4 IT!!
I bought this radio to communicate with my family in the ground floor of my apartment and the quality was exceptional. I even used it to tap radio transmissions and this can perform very well in bad weather conditions also, If u want to buy a radio , I personally suggest GO FOR IT!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad for a budget radio
Quality is decent, though the on/off volume knob feels cheap. Good range in the suburbs. Included belt clip a plus. Will only take the FRS-EM8 and the FRS-EMC8 earbud microphones

5-0 out of 5 stars THESE ARE GREAT
I got them a couple of months ago and they are so cool. I have used them on car trips and campouts. They seem to be made very well. And for this price I think they are amazing.

2-0 out of 5 stars Functionally ok, physically could be better
I purchased 2 sets of these radios to use while on a family trip to Disney World. They did work ok, but the protective rubber cover on the bottom of all 4 radios was lost within the first day of using them. This does not seem like a big thing, but the cover serves as protection in case they are dropped and also keeps the battery compartment cover from sliding off. If the design is changed, I may purchase them again, but for now, I have returned all 4 with the chargers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great performance, budget price.
Just got mine yesterday, and tried them out at the slopes today. They performed as well as my other (more expensive) Motorola T289 and TA280SLK models. The privacy codes were compatible with the Motorola's. The channel scan feature is useless as you have to hold two buttons down simultaneously to scan. The 'roger beep' is a nice touch. The LED backlighting on the LCD is 'cheesy' looking compared to the Motorola's nice blue EL backlighting, but then again, I won't burst into tears if one of these budget radios gets lost.

BTW, if your in the market for FRS radios in general, make sure they have the privacy code feature. This doesn't mean people can't listen in on you, but at least you won't hear other peoples chatter in crowded areas (like ski areas and malls). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Unwired brand base station
Great reception! Great range! VOX works great as a Baby Monitor! Unlike the Memorex Base Station I also have. I do not have any complaints about this UnWired brand. The Memorex seems to randomly allow a lot of static and squealing. The Unwired does not have this problem!

5-0 out of 5 stars Mom of 3 hard to keep track of kids
I purchased these 2-way radios because of the reasonable price and numerous features. I tested them by giving one to my seven year old at a party 1.7 miles from our house. It was easy to find a clear frequency with all the subchannels. The VOX feature made them easy for her to use. (Sometimes younger children have trouble remembering to hold or let go of the talk button.) I was able to lock in the channel we were on, so it could not accidentally be changed. I also really like that the radios are water resistant because I will not have to worry about them getting wet if it should start to rain. This is a great set of radios. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Bring the fun and convenience of Family Radio Service into the wild or ontothe water with this pair of Unwired Technology UFR8502 two-way radios. These bright yellow radios are more than splash resistant--they canwithstand submersion in water for up to 30 minutes. Six waterproof gasketsprotect the electronic components if the radio gets wet.

In addition to their water-resistant design, these radios also offer a fullsuite of Family Radio Service features. FRS radios are designed forsituations like hiking or skiing where a cell phone would be inconvenientand expensive. With an FRS radio, just push the call button and your voiceis heard instantly on a compatible radio up to two miles away.

What is Family Radio Service? In 1996, the Federal CommunicationsCommission (FCC) set aside one part of the FM radio frequency spectrum foruse by small groups at short range. Use of this UHF range--from 462.5625 to467.7125 MHz--is free and doesn't require an FCC license.

In addition to the basic 14 channels of FRS, the Unwired Technology UFR8502radio also feature 38 CTCSS subcodes--also referred to as privacy codes.CTCSS (Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System) enables the radio's squelch, which filters out nuisance signals, to operate at a specific subaudibletone. To use the subcodes, you and others who you will be communicatingwith will needs to set your radios to the same subcode. Using CTCSS codesis great if you are in a busy area and want to avoid most interference.Note, though, that subcodes will not scramble your conversation orcompletely protect you from eavesdroppers (for instance if others arecommunicating on the same frequency and subcode combination).

Save your favorite frequencies with the UFR8502's five memory settings. Youcan also use the voice-activation feature to operate these radioshands-free. The channel-scan feature allows you to search availablefrequencies for a clear channel and monitor activity from othertransmitting radios.

The Unwired Technology UFR8502 radio comes with an LCD screen. It runs forup to 26 hours on four AAA batteries. Use this radio with the optionalsingle-well charger for continuous and convenient charging. The radio alsohas jacks for an optional microphone, earphone, or headset. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not waterproof at all
I bought them and immediately checked them in kayaking trip. No second of work after been submerged in water. Don't believe the manufacturer!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not water resistant at all.
Bought a pair about a month ago. Took my wife and kids to our favorite water park in Orlando. As soon as my unit got wet, it stopped working. The display is not visible, the speaker does not work, the unit does not even turn on. It has not worked since (been about 10 days). The unit was submerged in 2 feet of water for about 30 seconds as we cruised the lazy river. Bottom line, they are not water resistant.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun, well-made product
We purchased the Unwired Water Resistant 2 Way Radios for use on a camping trip....our kids have had a great time with them. They are sturdy and brightly colored; the 2-mile range is stretching it a bit, but the info provided with the radios even states that the 2 mile range is over an open field. Of course, buildings, trees etc. will diminsh the range. We had good reception as far as 3 city blocks. I've tested other, more ... brands that also report the 2 mile range and have had the same reception. Unless you are willing to pay ... for more sophisticated radios, these are nice walkie talkies and a good value. Battery usage is very conservative, too (25 hrs.). Water resistance is important, esp. with kids, and the radios weren't affected after being used at the beach.

2-0 out of 5 stars 2 stars for 2 blocks
That was the range of those radios.

3-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
One of my 2 radio's only works occasionally. But when it works, it works well. I bought these because they were much cheaper than the Motorola ones, so I guess you get what you pay for. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Out of reach
This item is listed as currently out of stock when will it be in

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Reccomended
When I bought these, they worked fine, for the first two weeks. Then they stopped working, unless I was within two feet of the person holding the other radio. I replaced the batteries and everything, but it still didn't work. I don't reccomend this product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money
These radios were a waste of money! We bought this item forour son and promptly returned it. It claims to have a range of up to2 miles, but even in the same house, the clarity of the voices wasmuffled. As for distance, we lost communication a few houses down theroad. We have since purchased a .... 2-way radio for a comparableprice and are pleased with the huge improvement in clarity and range.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good product, good price, everything works
Some tests with a GPS on open field and city.

1000 feet city across blocks (1 straight, 1 right , 1 left , 1 right, 10 floor buildings) . Doubles my 900 MHZ spread tech. phones.

I tested 1 mile and a half, open field clear voice. And had more power.

Also passed 2 crash test , and works fine ! Great deal !

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast delivery, very good product
I received a pair as said.

I am not a FRS expert, but this are my test results (GPS and handset):

Open field in a city, 1 mile and a half, excelent reception, 3 of 5 (sorry no more open free space). 2 miles could be, not tested.

Through city with buildings, 10 floors concrete: 3 blocks and a half (350 meters zig zag). One block straight, 1 block right, 1 block left 1/2 block right. Both handsets inside buildings. Doubled range my 900 mHZ Spread tech. phones on buildings. Also works well in the elevator, where cellular or 900 MHz phones does not work.

Twice fell to concrete floor (children) , no harm at all in these crash tests:)

Small, simple, powerfull, not expensive. I do recommend this product. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love These Little Radios
I just received the little Unwired UFR8502CM radios and went out to a ranch north of Ellensburg WA, and found the little radios to be great. I was over two miles away on flat ground on the other side of steel buildings and came in loud an clear. I also went up in the mountains and had no trouble talking at over two miles.

I had some switch problems with the radios and contacted Unwired and also Amazon about warrenty. Both Amazon and Unwired offered great replacement, except Uniwired gave me an upgrade for a amall fee.

Happy Elk Hunting. OH! I ordered two more.

3-0 out of 5 stars A good value
Bought a pair of these 8 or 10 months ago. They work fine though mine had a rubber cap on the base that was so loose that it fell off the one my wife was using never again to be seen. Mine stays in the drawer at home now. It's nice to have but falls off. Lousy design and manufacture.

My wife has a problem using it as she doesn't remember NOT to push the buttons with her fingernail. When you do that the button sticks in and has to be hit several times to come out. She's stuck it in the call mode several times and until I've found her and fixed the button it'll continue to transmit forever, driving you nuts.

The UP and DOWN buttons will often jump a couple of channels at a time but for the price what do you expect???

Seems to have a good range and battery life. Thank goodness you can lock the unit so it can't have the channel changed or my wife would never figure it out. It's great when shopping and seems to have a fine range even inside buildings.

You have to figure out how far from your mouth to hold it and how loud to talk. Otherwise it'll overmodulate so badly that it'll be distorted and you can't understand what's being said.

I paid the same after a rebate as the price here and consider it a very good value. I'm buying a pair as a special gift for our grandson as a birthday present in May so he an a neighbor friend a couple of blocks away can use them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works great with its' own brand, and with others also!
I am a part of an Law Enforcement group that recently depended on this type of radios. When I first tried these radios, it was in a covered parking garage, with 3 levels of parking spaces. We had people stationed at every corner, at all levels, and next to the nearest building, which was .5 miles away. These radios worked perfectly. The only complant I have is that the bottom cover that keeps on falling off. After my first encounter with those radios, I bought my own, which was the Motorola T289. Since we had radios without codes, we had to use the regular 14 channels. With outside interference, my radio, and along with other brands of radios, worked flawlessly with these. I highly recommend these radios, but if you can find a better deal (which I did), then these radios are only for those who can't shop around.

Overall, I like this product. I have tried it both inside and outside of the house and on the road. I guess I was hoping for a little more range out of it. They are pretty lightweight and the looks arn't bad. I couldn't quite get the 2 miles range that it says it has. But hey for this price you can't beat em'. They are simple and easy to use, a good buy. It was cool

2-0 out of 5 stars breaker breaker ... an understatement
I've owned these FRS radios for less than 6 months and they have had to be sent in for repair of the radio electronics twice. Also, the cover which holds the batteries in is constantly falling off. When they are working, they work fine. The channel lock feature is nice, as is the button which allows you to listen when the incoming signal is not strong enough to be detected. If you're looking for something reliable, you may want to consider others. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great radios
I just recieved these two way radios last week in the mail, and I have been nothing but impressed with what I have found. Right out of the box they are very attractive, however, finding eight AAA batteries was another story. After installation of the batteries the radios were very easy to use, with just a few buttons which control the entire unit. However I must admit the whole memory function is a little confusing and I am still trying to figure it out... but hey! who doesn't want a good challenge every once in a while? The subcode function is very useful when using these radios in an area with a high concentration of other FRS users. Most two way family radios on the market today only offer 14 channels for it's user. However these radios offer 38 subcodes on each channel which basically boils down to about 546 different frequencies that you can communicate on, which makes interfering with an unwanted conversation very unlikely. The battery life of these units is rather impressive, with about 26 hours of use per radio, however I would recomend getting rechargable batteries and the plug-in adaptor to avoid having to purchase too many new batteries, when the old ones die. Anyone in the market for two way radios should stronly consider these for there good performance, and ease of use. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars It's Not Voice Activated!
Bought 2...not worth returning, but they're not VOX, the mike is hard-wired to be permanently on. Ripped the mic plug off with some pliers & using it as an earpiece-only.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works well with the Midland 75515XLBPR FRS
Won't work with the Unwired 805 or 808 series of FRS! (wrong type of plug) Does not have a VOX/PTT switch, but what do you expect for about ...? Works well with the Midland 75515XLBPR FRS because of it's built in VOX/PTT switch. Good sensitivity and clarity.

4-0 out of 5 stars NOT for the UFR8082
This model of VOX speaker/microphone is not for the UFR8082, however it works just fine with the Midland 75515XL line of radios. It has good sensitivty without catching every stray noise. Best to use as a throat-mike in the Midland 75515XL.
