Amazon.com Product Description

Uniden's EXP3240 is a bare-boned, although high-quality phone with a very affordable price-tag. By utilizing the 2.4 GHz frequency and 20 channels of autoscan, the EXP3240 offers clear, intelligible reception even at a distance. An autotalk setting lets users answer the phone simply by picking it up off the base, while 10 speed-dial presets provide easy access to the most frequently called numbers. The redial function stores up to 24 digits and adds a timed pause in the dialing sequence for those numbers where chain dialing is necessary.

If you subscribe to call waiting service through your local telephone company, you can easily answer a second incoming call simply by pressing the flash button. The Ni-CD battery provides up to 7 hours of talk time, and up to 14 days of standby, while a low-battery indicator on the handset lets users know when they need to re-charge. A page button on the base makes locating lost handsets quick and painless, while a handset volume control lets users adjust the volume level to their liking. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great phone, great value!
I ordered this as a second cordless. We already had a Uniden and it's great so I thought I'd check this one out, especially with such a great price for a 2.4. I've had Sony, Panasonic and any other expensive brands you could name and in my experience, phones are one thing you DON'T get what you pay for. My cheaper name phones (i.e. Uniden) have always proven to be perfectly usable with great features where some of the others have been troublesome. Anyway, this is stylish and has lots of bang for the buck.
PLEASE NOTE: We thought we were charging the phone for the initial 20 hour period only to find we didn't have the battery plugged in all the way. Apparently, you have to be sure you hear a CLICK to know it's engaged.

5-0 out of 5 stars INEXPENSIVE but Very Good
I bought one for my cubicle at work and rather than spend big bucks on a fancy model and risk someone stealing it, I opted to go with the least expensive 2.4 GHz Uniden I could find.

I went with Uniden because I bought another model, the EXAI3248, from Amazon and you can tell I liked it from my review of that model.

It still has the same 1.5 - 2 second delay before you hear a dial tone (press TALK and there's about 2 seconds before you hear the dialtone) however the quality and resistance to interference is still there!!! I can talk next to an active microwave and other sources of interference w/o any problems.

I HIGHLY recommend this for people who do not need Caller ID or an answering machine but demand performance and affordability in a sleek package.

I suppose applications would include college dorms that utilize voice mail systems, office cubicles that also utilize voice mail systems, and maybe a secondary phone in a large house. Not every phone on that 1 line needs Caller ID and an answering machine so this would be a good and cheap solution perhaps for a young adult who doesn't take care of his or her things.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, so far
I've had this phone for less than a week. Bought it after caving in - my old 25-channel phone just didn't cut it any more, or at least in this new apartment - usually had terrible loud buzzing constantly, and often wouldn't hang up unless I unhooked the jack from the wall!! Also, battery life had become seriously sucky. So far, this new phone has been far better. No problem with the battery, as yet; reception has been great (often TOO loud, have to turn the volume down!). However, several times (while sitting at my computer, don't know if related) I've gotten strange, loud beeping noises which went away after switching the channel, and just today I heard someone else's voice which alternated with the beeps as I switched channels, then finally all the extraneous noises stopped. I have no idea what is going with these noises, etc., but still, overall performance is far superior to my old phone. And the price is quite right. As noted, it's a basic phone, but as I've got a separate little caller ID unit I don't need that in my phone. We'll see how things work out long-term, but overall I'm quite satisfied with this purchase. One additional issue: when trying to cradle the phone using your shoulder, one must be careful, because the END button is situated right where you naturally want to put your cheek to support the phone - I've accidentally hung up a few times.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Great
This phone picks up microwave frequencies. I thought 2.4 GHZ were not suppose to do this. Also, I will charge the battery overnight, and then when I'm on a call, I get that darn beeping sound alerting me my battery is about to die. This is a brand new battery. It shouldn't do this. I finally bought another phone which I love! I got the Panasonic kx-tga23ow and so far it is the best cordless I have ever owened. I will never go back to cheap phones.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible reception!
I live in a very small apartment, so I am never far from the base to this phone and yet the reception constantly goes in & out if I so much as turn my head to the side. Not to mention, I often times have trouble hearing the person on the other end & have to raise the volume all the way up. My mother tried it & agreed, she said it was like talking into a tin can. I am very disappointed! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Keeps Working Fine
We had at least three cordless phones with answering systems before this one, and they all were feeble in some area. This has worked great for more than a year, and does NOT interfere with my wireless network, as many 2.4Ghz phones do. I am buying a "latest version" 900 Mhz Uniden for my daughter since this model has been discontinued. Fingers crossed.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't break the base antenna!
I called to order a replacement base antenna which only costs .97 but they have a minium order policy of 5.00 so in total it would cost about 12.00 to order this and I was told they can't tell me where else I can go buy it. The phone is great but their customer service is terrible!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars uniden phone rating
the sound quality of this phone is shameful. my mobile phone produces a better connection.

4-0 out of 5 stars Clear signal and easy to use
We have several cordless phones, but this is overall the best. I especially like how clear the caller's voice comes in and the ability to amplify or lower both the loudness of the incoming voice and your own. Also, another helpful feature for me is the ability to scan through your preset numbers to make sure you are making the right choice before you even turn on the phone. The only thing I miss is having a speakerphone with it. I don't use one often, but with five young grandchildren, a speakerphone gives both grandparents a chance to hear them before their attention span runs out!

3-0 out of 5 stars Great sound quality, some usability annoyances
First, the (very) good news: the sound quality rocks! I was frankly surprised how consistently clean and clear the sound is, even when I go one floor down from my apartment and across the street!
When I purchased this phone from Costco I also got a free headset; if you buy the phone here at Amazon.com, I'd recommend also getting a headset because it's VERY convenient and -- once again -- the sound quality is excellent (for both parties). It's wonderfully liberating being able to be productive with both hands AND no hunched shoulder while being on hold :)
And now for the less-than-good news:
- Many settings have limited options. For instance, you can have the answering machine #-of-rings-then-pick-up set to 2, 4, 6, or 'toll-saver'. Why not 3 or 5? Who knows? Similarly, many other settings (such as volume) have very few settings).
- Here's a big thumbs-down: You cannot turn off the ringer on the handset! On my last phone, you could quickly flick a switch on the side of the phone, which was heavenly so I could take naps undisturbed by telemarketers!
- The automated voice (for time/date-stamp, etc.) sounds like he's on drugs... very very slow. Ack!
- Just 10 slots for phone memory? Come on, with such cheap memory costs nowadays, it'd have cost them an extra .0001 cents per unit to expand the capacity to 20 or even 50 numbers. Worse yet, you can't store strings of more than 20 numbers in a slot, so my calling card takes up TWO slots just by itself :-(
With all these annoyances, it's only the phone's fine clarity and general comfortable feel (gripwise, etc.) that saves it from being dropped to 3 stars. However, I'd sure rather have a cordless that sounds great than one with lots of whiz-bang features :) ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Really good radios
After having bad experience with my old Motorola TalkAbout 250 radios, I decided to give these a try (I didn't want to reward Motorola with another sale, many of the Motorola radios were receiving mixed reviews here on Amazon, and I really like my Uniden cordless telephones).

These are really good radios. Audio quality is very good, and their communication range far exceeds that of my Motorolas, even when they were working correctly (which wasn't very often). I was able to communicate clearly through flat, wooded terrain with the radios 2 miles apart. I also like that the PTT button is where it belongs on the side of the radio, not in the middle of the front as on the Motorolas.

The Unidens have some nice features like weather radio, selectable call tones, a nice big display, VOX when you use the radios with the included headset/microphone (a feature that I don't like to use, but might be useful to some people), water-resistant construction, channel scan, etc. But the main feature I was looking for was long communication range, and I got that with these radios.

I have some issues that keep this from being the perfect (5-star) radio; you decide if they are show-stoppers for you:

1) Volume Control--These radios don't have a continuously variable volume knob; instead they have +/- push buttons to select 8 different volume levels (one of which is fully off). The problem is that the lowest volume level that isn't fully off is too loud if you're in a really quiet environment. It's fine if you're outside or in a noisy mall or something. But if you need to set the audio whisper quiet, you can't do it with these radios.

2) Size & Weight: These radios are bigger and heavier than many on the market. This is a natural side effect of buying a radio with more transmit power than most of the competition. These radios run on 4 AA batteries vs. 3 AA batteries in my Motorolas. To give you a sense of the difference, the Uniden's dimensions (not including the antenna or belt clip) is 5.25" long X 2.25" wide X 1.375" thick. The Motorola TalkAbout 250's dimensions are 4.5" long X 2.5" wide X 1" thick. I don't have a scale, so I can't tell you how much heavier the Uniden is, but I can tell that it does weigh more.

Other than those two complaints, these radios are perfect. It's up to you to decide, based on how you'll be using the radios, whether these issues are show-stoppers for you or not. They aren't for me; I'm delighted with the performance of these Uniden radios. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice for the Price
This phone system works very well in all catagories. It is a bit on the noisy side, but the range and voice quality are excellent. The answering machine is great and I like the keypad/speakerphone in the base, though I wish it included a caller ID display. I have it maxed out with 4 phones, each with its own speaker. Every one can be programmed to identify the phone's base location and each phone can operate the answering machine remotely. You can even use them as 2-way radios. This is a sleek, feature-packed system at a reasonable price.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great features, poor sound
Being a very jaded consumer of cordless telephones, my expectations were not real high when I bought this phone from a local retailer. We have a 2.4GHz DSS Uniden with digital answering machine that is over 3 years old (TRU248). It's taken a lot of abuse, and yeah it breaks up around my wireless router and microwave, but otherwise it's been a good little unit. This Uniden has way cool features that you can read of for yourself, but the bottom line is sound quality, and this unit is a big step backwards. After about 5 minutes of talking to someone, you find yourself wanting to say "over!" at the end of your talking, it's really that bad. When the other person isn't talking, you think they have hung up, and when they do talk, the static level is unacceptable no matter what volume level you use on the handset. It was also MUCH worse about dropping out around my router and microwave than my old 2.4, and the "Clarity Booster" (cranks up the transmit power according to the manual) did nothing of the sort.

I really wanted to like this phone, but in the end, it went back. We got an AT&T 2325 instead which tolerates the router and microwave much better, and the voice quality is ten time the Uniden. I haven't been an ATT fan in the past (they're no longer made by who you think they are) so we'll see how life goes with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great deal for the money.
I had some trepidation at first due to some of the negative reviews. I can only say that I'm impressed. Easy to set up easy to use, the voice quality is excellent. The handset is also a speaker phone making this thing doubly versatile. It has a mute button which allows me to type while on conference calls.. They thought of everything. Excellent answering machine. I don't have a single negative comment. I've had it for a few months now..It was money well spent.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok Phone.....too much like a cell
I ended up returning this phone just like the other three 2.4ghz phones I purchesed. I usually like Uniden phones, but I did not like the design of this phone. Too similar to a cell phones set up. No re-dial or memory. Like all other 2.4ghz phones, the range is great, but the interferance is too much for me! I bought a Uniden 5.8 that has great clairiay, but bad range out here in the country.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great phone!
I ended up keeping the Uniden DCT5285 after trying several phones including the Uniden DCT6485 and AT&T 1475. What attracted me to the Uniden models was the speakerphone on both the base and handset. I've got limited dexterity and had a hard time pushing the very small buttons on the DCT6485 and so tried the DCT5285. I'm very happy I did!

The speakerphone clarity on both the base and handset of the DCT5285 is excellent as is the clarity of the handset earpiece. The phone has a one-button speed dial function that can store up to 10 separate phone numbers although the base and handset have to be programmed separately. The handset has a last-three number redial function but unfortunately you have to go through the menu to use it. The Uniden DCT6485 has a separate redial button. The handset also has a phonebook the can store a persons name
and phone number. The number can be automatically dialed by pressing the "talk" button after accessing the contact in the phonebook. The phonebook on the DCT5285 is accessed though the menu while the DCT6485 has a separate button for it.

The answering machine has a 12-minute capacity with very good clarity. A very convenient feature is the ability to listen to messages on the answering device from the handset. The phone has distinctive ring tones but I can't comment on it because I don't have caller ID. The batteries seem to hold a charge very well although I don't have many long phone conversations. I live in a small apartment and so haven't really gone far from the base with the handset but so far the range is fine. I've gone about 20 feet from the base.

Overall, I think the DCT5285 is an excellent phone. I think it's got the same functions as the DCT6485 but with the DCT6485 you don't have to go through the menu to access the redial and phonebook functions. Again the only reason I returned my DCT6485 is because the buttons were very small, like a cell phone. I would have kept it otherwise. If you've got a problem operating a small keypad I'd say go with the DCT5285 as it's keypad is larger. Otherwise go with the DCT6485. Both are excellent feature packed phones with great clarity. ... Amazon.com Review

Uniden's EXP9750 is a basic 900 MHz cordless phone and digital answering machine combo that doesn't have a lot of frills but also doesn't cost a lot. We were most impressed with the answering machine, which has features that some other phones in this category lack, such as a time and day stamp. Although it can only record about 15 minutes of audio, the machine easily records conversations and stores memos that roommates and family members can play back when they get home. Using a PIN number, you can access messages when you're on the road. The unit can also be used as a room monitor, so you can hear what your kids (or the babysitter) is up to while you are away.

The handset isn't too shabby, either. It delivers good sound quality and a respectable range. It's possible to store 10 speed-dial numbers in the handset's memory; three "one-touch priority" keys on the bottom act as shortcuts for the speed-dial numbers assigned to the "1," "2," and "3" keys. The phone operates on a range of 40 channels, and there's a button included to manually change channels if conversations are a little fuzzy. You can mount the base unit either horizontally or vertically. While the base does not include a keypad, it does offer a speakerphone. If you don't use caller ID or any of the other services that require an advanced phone, the EXP7950 should meet your needs nicely. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Answering machine has some nice features
  • Phone clarity and range are good for a unit in this price range

Cons:

  • Can't make calls from the base unit's speakerphone
  • The "1-touch priority" keys are basically worthless

2-0 out of 5 stars Answering Machine Leaves Something to be Desired
We've had this phone for about a year and haven't been thrilled. The most disappointing is the answering machine. The outgoing message is not very clear and the incoming are scratchy and not clear either. Just this last week it finally kicked the bucket. I thought it was just the battery but we've replaced it and it still is not working. I'm searching for a replacement now, won't be buying another one of these though.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fab electronics
My mother buys a combo cordless/ answering machine atleast twice a year and Ive had this one for almost two years. Ive dropped it numerous times, lost it, spilled things on it, etc. and it still works. Overall Id say Im very pleased and the price was awesome.

2-0 out of 5 stars get what you pay for
The 9 button works sporadically. Needs a new battery but had a hard time finding one and cost was half as much as a new phone. Phone only a little more than a year old.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a great phone
I bought this phone because Uniden phones come so highly recomended. It has so many features for the price. They must have scimped on quality when adding the extras. I did not care for this phone. The recoreding quality for the outgoing message was very poor. When making a call the volume for the person I was talking to was low even on the highest setting. My own voice however was unbelievably loud in my own ear. The answering machine had a bit of an echo and there is no place to write down the stored numbers so you know who is in which spot. I am returning this phone and will try a higher end Uniden. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Cordless Phone I've ever Tested!!!!
Uniden has a winner in this model of TRU446 phone. Clear as a bell on incoming or outgoing audio... I'm getting over a 2000 foot range from my house. My friend purchased a panasonic at over 230.00 and this TRu446 out performs it in every way!!! I highly recommend this phone for price and quality. IS OUTSTANDING!!!! ...Received phone in two days shipped standard ups from vendor...

4-0 out of 5 stars Uniden TRU-446 2.4 GHz Cordless Phone
The sound quality and the over all options present an excellent phone for it's price. I highly recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars good phone
I replaced my panasonic with this uniden because the panasonic was acting up ,it was a 900 mhz digital spread and the uniden is a digital spread also but it operates at the better high 2.4 ghz. so it should have an increased range but it starts to break up at the same distance the panasonic did, perhaps this is because the companies are advertising the frequency they use but not the power output leaving us still somewhat in the dark. I must admit though that the panasonic had a much better range than I thought it would in wich case the uniden seems to have an ok range and this uniden has a lot of features for a phone in this price range including ni-hm batteries that have no memory so you don't have to tell people not to put the phone back in the charger if it doesn't need charging yet, that's a good selling point to me and I would have bought it sooner if they advertised the battery type a little better. And the ni-hms last a long time. So despite the slight if any increase in range over my panasonic the uniden has to many other thing going for it at that price so I have to give it a good raiting.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great phone until you use a headset
I agree with the other reviews but when I use a headset, my friends complain that it is hard to hear me, a basic platronics headset with a microphone sensitivity switch set to max was an improvement but not sufficient. I have tested these two headsets with other phones without a problem. Uniden's customer service answer was to try their own headset but I fail to see how that is going to help when it cannot compare to the quality of the Platronics.

3-0 out of 5 stars Digital Spread What? Who? How?
...I shopped around and found that the uniden tru-446 looked to be a good deal at [$$$] for a "digital spread spectrum" (DSS) phone [local store].
The research i went through indicated that the DSS technology was capable of transmitting 4-5 times farther than your basic analog or "plain" digital cordless... [The phone] picks up no better. Works okay otherwise i believe. Looks okay, feels okay. Feels solid. But don't bet on DSS solving your transmission problems over longer distances. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Phones!
Here's a great deal for under fifty bucks. These phones feel great on your ear, and sound exactly like corded phones. Their small size lets them fit in nicely anywhere and the base unit mounts easily to the wall. There's a volume control that lets you turn the things up to 11, really loud if you want it.

Not sure why the other reviewer on this list mentioned static -- I didn't notice that at all, and we have lots of wireless devices around here including another cordless phone and two WiFi computers.

There are good reasons why Consumer Reports rated this two-phone set highly, and recommended it. It's a super value for the money. We're buying another set today, instead of getting one of those 5.8 gigahertz models that doesn't even sound as good as this. We had a choice of getting one of those 5.8 GHz phones with three extra handsets for nearly $400, or two of these dual-phone sets for under $100. Easy choice for us.

Great value, free shipping, too.

1-0 out of 5 stars BATTERY HOG
Plain and simple ... this thing is a battery hog. Expect to go through batteries quickly. Take batteries out when in storage as they still will drain.

Find another product. I wish I could return mine (I bought 2 pairs ... ahhhhhhh).

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent (at least for the price)
No fancy features here (nothing like weather band or quiet codes). They do have a "call" key, that sends a ring sound on the selected channel.
Just a pair of small, easy to use, easy to carry walkie-talkies, with great sound. They even work fine with rechargable batteries (have tried Ni-MH).
Only problem: the manual does not specify which are the FRS and which are the GMRS channels. (You need a license to transmit on GMRS.) After using these units and some Motorolas (FRS only) together, I could find that FRS are the first 14, GMRS the last 8. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great sound quality, great features, easy to use
After finally getting fed up with my low quality coordless phone/answering machine I decided to upgrade. I looked around at various phone models, and after reading reviews I couldn't find a model that I was willing to put up good money for, I wanted 2.4GHZ DSS, with an answering machine and call waiting caller id, this phone had all the features I wanted and other phones from Uniden rated well, so I decided to give it a try. I also purchesed the expansion hand set directly from Uniden (you can transfer calls between the handsets and the speakerphone). The phone is very user friendly, and easy to set up. The buttons are logically located and the handset is comfortable to use, it also comes with a belt clip and has a headset plug. The sound quality has been execellent, I have expereinced no extra noise or interference (which was so bad with my old phone that I sometimes couldn't talk on the phone). The answering machine is very clear and can be accessed remotly. I have nothing negative to say about this phone except that the ability to add on more than one handset would be nice. I can recomend this phone without hesitation.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good Phone / Bad Sound
I'm always amazed to see reviews of cordless phones where people lavish praise for all the gizomos, gadgets and features except for one pesky little detail--sound quality. I suppose a lot of people are satisfied as long as a telephone is fun to play with and has all the cool stuff. For me it's different. While I appreciate features I am here, first and foremost, to make a phone call and for maximum clarity. To that end, The Uniden TRU-448 is a MISERABLE failure. I have bought one, returned it to the store and even picked up a SECOND unit because I'd read all these wonderful reviews.

I was told by the people I called that it sounded muffled and low-volume. I tried changing the location any number of times, playing with the antenna and anything else I could think of to little or no result. I'm beginning to wonder if it's an overall problem with 2.4 gigahertz as I've tired out and returned about 7 phones the past year. I wish I could recommend a better phone or someone could recommend to me. But, for the mean time, I'm sticking with my ancient 900mhz.

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect All-Around 2.4 GHz Cordless Phone/Answering Machine
I've had this phone for three weeks. It's not worthy of a glowing five star review, but it's definitely one of the best cordless phones on the market. It's also a great deal. Despite some critical reviews, the sound quality of the TRU-448 is excellent. Let's get something straight...no cordless phone is ever going to match a corded phone for clarity. Reviewers have to recognize this fact and get past it. As far as cordless phones go, the TRU-448 with its 2.4 GHz circuitry has commendable sound. It also has adequate range. I have one piece of advice for reviewers who get annoyed when the sound quality of a cordless phone degrades hundreds of feet from its base unit: Get a cell phone. This phone is ideal for use around the house/yard/patio. Beyond that, call Verizon. One reviewer questioned the legitimacy of earlier five-star reviews. He or she theorized that the raves were actually submitted by Uniden employees. He or she also claimed to have never heard of Uniden. Interestingly, that person gave this phone a three-star rating despite the fact that he or she apparently doesn't own it. I don't know if the five-star reviews were authored by Uniden employees, but I do know that Uniden has been in the cordless phone business for decades. I am not a Uniden employee. I'm certainly willing to point out this phone's shortcomings. I've found three. My first criticism is ringer volume. You have two choices: Low and High. Where's Medium? High is earsplitting and low is inaudible. My second criticism relates to the answering machine. When a caller leaves a message, the answering machine takes 30 seconds to "recycle." If someone calls within 30 seconds of someone else leaving a message (or the caller immediately redials to leave a follow-up message), they get a busy signal. Since there are no moving parts (no outgoing or incoming message cassettes) I have no idea why the phone stays busy for 30 seconds. My last criticism concerns the keypad. Not all the buttons are backlit. The caller-ID, speed dial, redial and channel change buttons (the black ones seen in the product photo) are indiscernible in the dark. All three criticisms are pretty minor. Overall this is a great phone. Don't buy a 2.4 GHz cordless phone/answering machine combo that's more expensive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great phone!
I've gone through several cordless phone systems and this one has most satisfied me. It has a comfortable ergonomic design, is compatible with most standard headsets and has lots of cool features. It's also pretty sturdy. I've dropped it on tile floor a couple of times without incident. Great sound quality.

The only thing I would change if I had my way is the 'end' button to hang up or end a process. It's a teenie, tiny button. It either needs to be bigger, or the talk button should be a toggle button.

3-0 out of 5 stars A very good phone
The most I like about this phone are the sound clarity, ease of use, and size. While talking from a good distance from the receiver, I've had not problem with sound. The only think I get is good quality sound. I don't miss anything what other people say.

Two things I dislike about this phone are the end botton, and the words on or below bottons. First, the end botton is fairly small. If you miss pressing it after you've done talking, which I have done several times, the phone will continue to be on and no one else can call you. So, very careful with this button. The words fade very rapidly if your not careful. I had my phone for 9 months now, and almost all the words are erased. This is all from normal usage. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Winging its way back to the shop
just as soon as I have time to call. Charged it as expected, made one phone call on it, and it hasn't worked since. Tried plugging it in again, but life's too short. I certainly didn't love the too-small, brushed-aluminum handset enough to want to keep it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not so good
I returned this phone one day after I bought it. Because every time I picked up the phone, I can hear a loud hum backgroud noise. I have one other cordless(900mhz) and two cord phones. None of them has this problem.

Better try it before you buy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Quality V- Tech Phone
I had owned a V-Tech phone and when it needed a new battery I wanted to purchase a new one. The phone wasn't being made anymore and all of the parts were being discontinued. I decided to buy a new phone, being this one. This phone is super easy to install. Just put the battery in the receiver and plug the phone into a power outlet. Let the phone charge overnight and the next morning you can plug the phone into the jack and you have a brand new V- Tech telephone.

The quality, as with all V- Tech phones, cannot be beat. You hear the other party over this phone crisp clear and the quality that went into the making of this telephone shows. This cordless phone is ideal for an extra phone around your house. It is affordable and the quality cannot be beat. This is a telephone that will last for many years. I highly recommend this telephone to anybody that is in need of a great phone. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
The price is low and so is the quality. I had a 900mhz Uniden for several years that I was happy with. So, I bought this thinking I would like it too. Uniden went cheap on this one. It even feels cheap. The sound quality was bad. It had a popping noise whenever I got a few rooms away from the base. So much for 2.4 GHz clarity. I sent it back to Amazon (who, by the way, was GREAT about taking the return and refunding my money).

4-0 out of 5 stars A good phone for the money
After about two months of using this phone...

The good:
• Handset is lightweight, comfortable to hold.
• Five ring options available (2 ringer tones at 2 volume levels, plus "off").
• Easy to program the speed dials!
• Dial any number on caller ID with one touch.
• Rocket dial - a special "speed dial" that you use often, such as calling your voice mail inbox. Particularly nice is the option to program a "pause" between strings of numbers, which may be necessary when navigating through menu options.
• Easy ear volume control
• Time length of last phone conversation displayed (but disappears a few seconds after hanging up)
• Looks good
• Normally great reception all over the house, even downstairs, except...

The bad:
• Occasionally, when in one spot in our living room, we hear a tic..tic..tic. Some sort of interference, but not sure what since there are no electronics or other obvious objects in our living room that would cause this.

My recommendation: READ THE MANUAL before plugging in this phone. Get to know the features and you will love it. I have had nothing but bad luck with recent cordless phones, but this time I made sure to FIRST read about battery charging, maintenance, etc. and so far so good.

2-0 out of 5 stars Still Searching
I bought this phone after looking at Comsumer Reports ratings and opinions on Amazon as well as other sites. Unfortunately, it doesn't work as well for me as it did for other users. I get constant interference and clicking noises, even when I try switching channels. The cordless I had before had a terrible battery life (the battery life on this phone is excellent, btw, which is part of why I gave it two stars), but my old phone rarely got interference unless the microwave was running. It also seems to be causing a lot more interference on our baby monitor than our old cordless. I've read a lot of good things about Uniden, so I'm planning on returning this one to try another model.

4-0 out of 5 stars For the money
I think this phone is the best that could be had. Limited as far as bells and whistles, but it has caller ID and call waiting, and a 20 number memory. Sound quality is as good as my Panasonic and other Uniden, and much better than the Sony that cost 3 times as much and ended up in the trash. It ranges all over the house. The only reason it only gets four stars is because the keypad isn't lit. For a lit keypad I might step up to the 5260 for the next phone.

4-0 out of 5 stars pleasantly surprised
I have had nothing but trouble with cordless phones, and my expectations with this phone were low, however I was very pleasantly surprised.

I was looking for a cordless phone with caller ID and voicemail indicator, both features on this phone. The phone also has lots of other feathure that are pretty handy, like rocket dial.

The price for this phone is less than I have spent on other phones of much lower quality. The sound is clear, and operation is fairly straightforward. I cannot imagine how you could do better for the price. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars This unit blows
Less than a year after I bought it, the thing started cutting out while I was on the phone. The person on the other end of the line couldn't hear me. I sent it back for repair, they did something to it, sent it back to me..............same problem!

3-0 out of 5 stars Excellent altho after a year + , some issues...
I have had this phone for quite a while and I am, in general, happy with my purchase. One issue that has come up over the last few months is that the buttons aren't as responsive as they used to be and sometimes need to be pushed more than once to *catch*...That said...

It has worked very well the entire time I have owned it. I have had very little difficulty with signal strength. What difficulty I have had I am fairly certain is due to needing a new battery (and that is true of all cordless phones not just this one). This isn't the first cordless I have owned but it is the best one with regards to being able to walk away from the base and not losing the call. I have left my house and walked the dog while still on the same call.

The call waiting caller ID is an excellent feature and very easy to read on this phone (not true of all phones). The caller in general is very easy to read becasue the LCD space is quite large. Very nice! There are many features on this phone that I really like. Many are available on other phones as well, they just seemed to work better on this one.

I do wish the flash button was bigger. It's one of the smaller buttons and I think it should be more prominent. But that is pretty minor. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase and glad I made it. I *am* afriad that the button issue will cause me to have to replace this phone sooner than i would like but when I have to replace this phone, I will certainly look to this company again.

1-0 out of 5 stars Phone isn't made to last
I bought my phone about 3 months ago and have had nothing but problems with it and Uniden customer support. I sent back the original phone because charge wouldn't hold on the handset. When I recieved the replacement phone it didn't work either. The charge was holding on this one but the handset buttons wouldn't work. I thought this may have been because they sent me the wrong battery with it so I requested that they send me the correct battery for the phone. When I recieved the battery it was also the wrong one so I went to Radio Shack only to confirm that the handset really wasn't working. Needless to say I still haven't been able to use the phone and customer service wants nothing to do with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great phone
After owning a Sony phone for a few years, I also decided to try a different brand. I have not been disappointed with the Uniden. The battery lasts for about 1 week before recharging is needed. Really don't use too many of the features except for the Caller ID! Very useful to screen out those pesky telemarketers!

1-0 out of 5 stars Unhappy with seller...
My problem is with the seller. The phone memory will store numbers, but will not store the associated names as it should. Also, the phone came without a manual, without the belt clip, and without the rechargable battery which I bought at [local store] for [money]. I bought this same phone previously from another seller with complete satisfaction. ... Read more
