1-0 out of 5 stars The WORST Phone EVER
Amazon is the best, and offers the best deals anywhere. However this phone is the WORST!

I never realized how bad it could be until my daughter swallowed some day glow liquid from one of the silly party bracelets. In calling our doctor, local ER and Poison Control Center, I was so frustrated that I couldn't hear anything they said (the static is so bad). To complicate matters, the dialing is so slow that it added to the stress. Thank G-d for cell phones!!!

Do not buy this phone, because you will never know in an emergency if it will perform.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Horrible Phone
I bought this phone because I needed a cordless 2 line phone. The phone get allots of static and interfernce. The speakerphone has poor sound quality. The rest of the functions though present do not work well i caller id memory .

4-0 out of 5 stars nice little 2 line cordless
I was looking for a moderately priced 2-line cordless with caller-id and there aren't a lot of choices...

Because of the mixed reviews here, I was wary - and bought this under the Radio Shack label so I could easily return to my local store if I had any problems...

BUT it's a nice phone. No problems.
One feature not mentioned in the "editorial" is that you can store NAMES and numbers in the handset memory/speed-dial and scroll through to select - just like most cell phones.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing!
I bought this phone/answering machine based on some of the other comments I saw here and am VERY disappointed. The static was so bad on the first call I attempted (and switching channels did not help at all) that I had to pull out and reconnect my old phone. I've tested several calls since then and at BEST there is clicking and intermittent static. My 8 year old Sony phone works far better than this product!

4-0 out of 5 stars sound clarity.
This the first cordless phone we have had whose audio quality is as good as or superior to a corded phone. You can hear people clearly and distinctly even at some distance from the base unit. We have yet to experience reverberation the way you do on some cordless phones. Combine it with a headset you also get hands free mobility and don't lose anything in sound quality.

The phone has two features that we especially like. First, you may pick up the phone from the base unit and start talking immediately, just as you would on a corded phone. We like that. Second, you can pick up the handset when it's not on the base and hit any key on it to start talking. You don't have to look for the line 1 or line 2 key to start your conversation.

We would like it to have the feature that allows you to get immediately to a stored phone number by hitting an alpha key on your touchpad and bringing up your stored number by name. This has been a great feature on other phones. On this one, however, we get to a stored number by scrolling through the numbers in their stored locations until you get the number you want. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good value
These do a pretty good job for the money. I haven't tried them on water yet, but in the city, with houses, trees and other things blocking the line of sight, we get a little over a mile in range. The NOAA weather stations come in loud and clear so far. This will be a great feature when we're out hiking. They're also pretty compact and light. When you consider the fact that these come with NiMH rechargeable packs (or you can use 4 AAA's per radio) and the recharger base, you get quite a bit for your dollar. On the other hand, it looks like the Uniden GMR855 might give you a little bit better range (without the NOAA weather feature) for about the same price, but if you can get these on sale or with a rebate, it's hard to lose.

1-0 out of 5 stars Think twice before buying this product.
I bought this radio because it was recommended by Good Housekeeping magazine. When the radios arrived, one radio did not work correctly. The Uniden customer service website was no help. It took them 6 days to reply to my message and they still did not give me an answer. I thought Uniden was a brand to trust. Obviously, I made a huge mistake. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful product
A bit pricy, but worth every penny.

PROS:
- Great quality speaker system on the handset (major plus).
- Built -in answering machine with ALL the features one should have, including remote access.
- Handset holds charge for a very good amount of time.
- Easy to use menus. Easy to adjust volume on handset and base.

CONS:
- Price.
- Handset is a bit heavier than I'm used to.
- 2.4 GHz (if true) doesn't reach as far as you would think! I used to own a 900 MHz panasonic and the range of that phone was better.

Bottom line: Go for it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Phone
I am very picky about my phones, and after much research and experience with this phone, I think it is safe to say that it is a terrific phone. I bought several phones that would suit my multi-handset needs, including a different Uniden model, and returned them shortly after because either the features were lacking, or because the sound quality was poor. However with the DCT 5280, the sound quality is great, as is the range. In addition to this, the features of the phone are outstanding, including distinctive rings, speaker phone built into both the base and handset, and the ability to use the handsets as intercoms or walky-talky style units away from the base (like at the mall) and standard AA size rechargeable batteries, allowing for great flexibility to my needs. This said, it is important to note that the sheer amount of features does make the phone complicated to begin with, so if you are somewhat techno-phobic, perhaps this phone isn't right for you, but otherwise I highly recommend this phone (along with the additional handsets) to anyone who is in the market for a great cordless phone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Uniden products rock!
This is the second Uniden phone I have purchased and I love them both. They are easy to set up and use. Can't go wrong with this product!

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice Features, Bad Sound Quality
What a terrible phone. It's reasonably priced, attractive, and has great features, and I really wanted to love it... BUT the sound quality is horrific. For some reason, the volume in the handset fluctuates based on the sound coming from your end. So when you speak, the sound mutes on the other side for a couple seconds, then comes back (which you can track easily because of the ample background static). It's like talking on walkie-talkies. After discovering this problem, I then bought a similar Uniden model (DCT5285) to see if the original phone was defective or if the problem was with the DCT line in general. Sad to say, the DCT5285 had the exact same problem. Bottom line: bad line of phones. I've had good luck previously with the Uniden TRU3465 phones, so I won't write off Uniden altogether -- just the DCT phones.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice Features - Annoying Sound
This would be a great pone except for one big problem: when you talk, the earpiece quiets down and cuts out just like talking on speakerphone. The volume in the earpiece is constantly fluctuating. I guess that's because each handset can be a speakerphone (a feature which works quite well... better than most speakerphones). But it was just too annoying more me so I had to return it. Otherwise it has many many features. Useless features like a giant phonebook, the ability to check the answering machine from any handset, and other silly gadgets mostly found on cell phones like playing Fur Elise for a ring tone. It seems built really well but it's just not worth the extra money. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Remember the one about too good to be true....
The IDEA of these phones is a good one - two units, one phone jack, one unit active at a time so no listening in to conversations... but there is something horrid about the reception. Within a couple of months the static got so bad that folks don't want to call our house any more. I'm looking for something else right now and thought i'd warn the others out there to get something else before it's too late.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor Reception & Short Battery Life
Having an extra handset and charger certainly seemed like a great idea at the time. In fact, it was the #1 factor in buying these phones. I was confident that they would be of good quality because of a prior good experience with the Uniden brand.

Alas, I'm sorry to report that the range on these phones is woefully substandard. It's literally like being tied down to a regular (corded) phone. The static is absolutely maddening.

Battery life leaves much to be desired. I just got my phones but a friend of mine has been suffering with the same phone for just about a year now and his batteries don't last more than 2 hours. Other users have reported similar problems. Something for me to look forward to, I suppose.

It's worth mentioning that another factor in the decision-making process was that the newer, better 2.4GHz cordless phones were incompatible with my 802.11b wireless internet transceiver. I've been recently informed that's no longer an issue.

And, for what it's worth, the other handset is rendered useless because of the reception issues. Who needs an "extension" that is incapable of "extending." It's like having two phones in the same room. Pointless!

There are much better 900MHz phones out there. Spare yourself the inevitable disappointment and look elsewhere if you need a good cordless phone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Recommended - Very bad reception.
Pros:
1. intuitive design and features- I didnt open the manual but but was able to figure out all of the functions and was able to program numbers easily.
2. cost- it's cheap. 2 phones for the price of one.

Cons:
1. Reception- regardless of how near of far I am to the base, I keep getting an annoying buzz sound. It is really irritating when trying to hold a conversation. The buzzing sound comes and goes but it is driving me nuts. The other cordless phones that I own do not have this problem. The basic function of a phone is so that 2 parties can talk to one another. There shouldn't be any static.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lots of hissing noise
I've had Uniden 900 MHz phones before, they worked fine. This model produces nothing but static as soon as I'm more than 20 feet away from the base. Do not buy it, however cheap it may seem.

This phone will be returned to Amazon this week.

1-0 out of 5 stars I exspected more from Uniden.
I've purchased other Uniden's phones that worked great but this one is junk. I had trouble with reception from the start and had never had a reception problem with any other phones before. The phone then had a habit of disconecting in the middle of a call. The last straw was when the extra headset became useless when nothing worked. It was like it had no battery installed. Checked the battery and nothing was wrong with. The phone went in the garbage as I wasn't going to pay more money on postage.

When the phone did work there was one thing I liked and that was the Rocket Dial feature. Unfortunately it didn't work that often. ... Read more

Some of us demand much more from our phones than just a little redial button. Sometimes a "flash" button simply doesn't do the trick. For users who demand extensive features and high technology, Uniden's TRU3466 delivers. Operating on the quiet 2.4 GHz band, the phone transmits digitally for exceptional range and minimal static. Plus, the speakerphone lets you talk hands-free, or lets the whole family in on the conversation.

The two-line LCD on the handset works in conjunction with caller ID/call waiting services, and the phone stores 80 caller ID names and numbers in addition to the 40 speed-dial presets. With call waiting, an interrupting caller's phone number and name will be displayed even if you're talking on the other line.

Of course, the phone does feature the basics, like flash, redial with memory (storing the last three numbers dialed), pause, and hold. In addition, the handset and base act as a two-way intercom. The phone is not wall mountable, but it does feature a belt clip and can be used with a headset. It is backed by a 90-day warranty. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Uniden TRU 3466
bgt the TRU346 after good reviews, memory dim but phone broke within a year, could not hear caller (they could hear me)often could not get dial tone, don't remember what tech support (email) suggested (chg battery, reprogram unit etc), didn't work anyway. Uniden brand name and the reviews on TRU3466 with speakerphone, gave them another chance. # sign on handset died after a few months (try using voicemail systems without the pound #)had to use speakerphone constantly for # sign key. Earpiece is necessity, move around my office a lot, works on and off now, lot of static or no reception at all. I also need earpiece to keep hands free (major reason for speaker phone as well).Bought two phones, less than two years, $180. Big disappointment.
Will never buy UNIDEN phone again.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I bought this phone because of the range and speaker phone feature. I immediately found that the phone kept displaying "line 2" active when there was only one line to the phone. The battery in the handset died after only two months and a replacement never charged. When I returned it to the manufacturer via instructions I received a factory-reconditioned older phone with only 900 mhz in return with no other explanation. I will never buy a UNIDEN phone again.

1-0 out of 5 stars Broke after 1 year
My phone worked fine for over a year. Now the handset won't connect to the base. First, I tried the troubleshooting guide in the manual. Then I tried replacing the battery and contacting Uniden customer service. The phone still fails to work.

Avoid this one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Junk
This telephone worked perfectly for 1 year and then died as if programmed to not work as soon as the warranty ran out... phones should work for more than 1 year and after having tried numerous phones, all of these companies should be ashamed at producing such horribly made phones.

1-0 out of 5 stars Awful....Low battery life...
I bought the earlier model which looks exactly like this one and has same features. This is one of worst cordless phone i have ever purchased. During conversation, it shuts of all my itself even when fully charged. I even replaced hte battery but no good.. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
This phone is overpriced at anything except free. I bought a Uniden product because of other wonderful experiences I have had with them. This product is a definite exception. The phone quality is alright, but I find myself frequently asking people to repeat themselves because the loudest volume still is not very clear. The worst "feature" though is remote answering machine access. I cannot check messages when calling from a cell phone and I can check messages about 2 out of 10 tries when calling from another land line. I wish I had bought another phone. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Radio
This unit looks and works great. Installation was easy and the performance has been great. Has all the adjustments that I was looking for plus the weather channels. I didn't really want the weather channels at the time of purchase, but I'm glad I have them now.

The cosmetics are great -- chrome dials, silver face, green back-lighting, analog signal meter.

The unit is not a compact unit, but I was able to fit it under the radio in my '96 Ford Ranger without too much trouble. The 9' microphone cord seemed really long to me when I saw that on the spec sheet, but it is actually about perfect.

There are a couple of downsides: The Dynamic Squelch Control is completely useless. As far as I can tell, it just automatically sets the squelch to a higher-than-appropriate level. With DSC on, you miss all low-powered transmissions and some high-powered ones. DSC works great if you're only interested in a ~300' radius. I never turn mine on.

The other downside is that it's nearly impossible to determine the knob positions by sight. That is, you can't easily look down and see that the volume is at 1/2 and squelch is at 1/8, e.g.

Neither of these downsides are that big of a deal, though.

BTW, I use the RF Gain control much more than squelch to fine tune my reception. Don't buy a CB radio without RF Gain.

This thing has great clarity, both transmitting and receiving. However, make sure not to skimp on your antenna. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Starter or Back-Up !!!
I am partial to Uniden anyway, however this CB is great for a first time user or as a back up to a more expensive unit. I have been using CB for about 10 years and I always make sure I have a Uniden 510 available for a back up, or use it in a second car. It has superior range when used with a good antenna and the received audio is decent. I would suggest using an external speaker unless you have a super quiet vehicle. The anl switch cuts through static really well to improve reception, although it sometimes dulls out the audio of the person you are trying to hear. You can use it with a cigarette lighter plug with an adapter from radio shack for a few dollars. They will even show you how to hook it up. It all boils down to being a great CB at a great price. Remember a simple rule of thumb... An inexpensive CB on a good antenna will perform just as well as a high-end CB on a cheap antenna. Don't forget to tune your antenna and have fun!

Amazon.com Product Description

Uniden's compact BC244CLT is a fully programmable, 30-channel, 10-band scanner. Features include a full-frequency backlit LCD, a clock with alarm, channel lockout, a priority channel, and one-touch weather, too--search from seven pre-programmed NOAA channels for your local NOAA weather channel. Also included are an auto delay, review, volume, and squelch control. Channel information is stored in non-volatile memory, so in the event of a power failure the scanner will retain channel information indefinitely.

The BC244CLT has 30 memory channels. Each can be programmed to store one frequency within the band of frequency coverage. When you press SCAN, the BC244CLT scans each programmed frequency for activity (skipping channels that are locked out) at the rate of about 12 channels per second. When the scanning stops on an active frequency, it remains on that channel as long as the transmission continues. When the transmission ends, the scanner stays on the channel for two more seconds, waiting for a responding transmission. If no responding transmission is detected, the scanning cycle resumes.

When you activate Priority Scan, the scanner keeps track of the activity on a designated priority channel while scanning the other channels in the background.

Amazon.com Product Description

A 2.4 GHz digital cordless phone from Uniden, the DCT6485-2 comes with a number of useful features, including an extra handset and charging cradle plus an all digital answering machine. Ideal for any large home, this stylish phone system allows you to place handsets in multiple locations, so you'll never miss a call. A handset-to-handset call transfer function is provided, as is a memory location transfer feature. With four-way conferencing (two handsets + base + outside call), multiple users can easily converse, while the intercom feature lets you communicate with another handset location.

Caller ID/call waiting compatible, the DCT6485-2 can store up to 100 caller ID numbers, while the display-and-dial feature lets you easily scroll through the list of calls and dial with the touch of a button. A redial button lets you easily call one of the last three outgoing numbers.

The digital answering system features full remote operation, allowing you to check messages while away from the home or office. Voice prompts help guide you through setup, while play/stop, skip, delete, and repeat keys help you navigate through your messages. A memo record feature is provided, and the conversation record feature lets you record important conversations or information such as driving directions. Twenty distinctive ringer options are provided, while a visual voice mail indicator on the base lets you know when you have message waiting.

Handset and ringer volume controls allow you to easily adjust the phone's settings to your liking. The DCT6485-2 is headset compatible (a belt clip is provided for hands-free operation), while a room/baby monitoring setting lets you hear audio from another handset location. A page button on the base makes finding a lost handset quick and painless, and the menu-driven handset LCD makes operation easy.

An autoscan feature automatically detects the best channel available. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent value! Great features for the price!
My wife works out of our home and is very picky about the phones we have. We have gone through several other phones (even another Uniden) and none of them have been up to the task until now.

Pros:
1. Sound quality is excellent! I have NOT experienced any of the 'tinny' or 'staticy' sounds that some have complained of. I keep the base unit in a location away from other electronics (although the satellite handsets are near computer without any interference).
2. The setup was fairly easy and I was able to figure most things out without consulting the manual
3. The speakerphone seems to work quite well. I was able to hear clearly and be heard clearly without having to raise my voice or talk 'at' the phone.
4. Storing numbers from CallerID is easy and allows you to give people distinctive ring tones.
5. The handset seems to be of relatively good quality and is attractive. The orange backlighting is actually quite nice and lights up the phone well.
6. Two-way radio feature. It's a nice add-on. I haven't had the chance to use it away from the house and I would still recommend a true Two-way radio but if you wanted to avoid the cost and have something that is decent this is a good alternative.
7. Global Options. Allows you to set Day/Time on the entire system from a single handset and, more importantly, allows you to copy the phone book from one phone to the other handsets!
8. Privacy mode. Prevents others from picking up the call from another handset. This is great because my wife has a habit of picking up the phone and dialing without looking to see if it's in use.
9. Do Not Disturb. This is GREAT for the weekend mornings! Prevents handsets/base from ringing and waking you up on those lazy Sunday mornings.
10. Headset. It's fairly comfortable and very clear. Sound quality of ear pieces is good and voice quality is very good on the other end.

Cons:
1. Separate 'End' button to disconnect calls. This is more of a minor annoyance than a real reason to consider another phone.
2. Lack of Mute button. Unless you're using a headset you'll have to pull the phone away from your ear then select Menu --> Mute. It would be nice to have a button specifically for mute.

Not factored into rating:
1. Answering machine. I haven't played with much yet.
2. Talk range (I've yet to go more than ~30ft. from the base while on a call)
3. Room Monitor. Haven't used it.
4. Call Screen. Haven't used it.
5. Hold feature. Haven't used it.

As you can see this phone is full of features and is a great value! I was able to pick an entire system (base and 3 additional handsets for a total of 4 handsets) with an extended warranty for less than $150. That's a deal by any standard!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Features - So So reception
The only thing about this phone that hasn't blown me away is the reception. There is a faint hum at all times on the line. Nothing horrible but if you are super picky, it will drive you nuts.

Other than that, this phone ROCKS! Easy to set up and use and the feature set is second to none. For the price, this is by far the best phone value on the market!!

Pros
1. The ability to listen to voice messages from the hand sets.
2. The ability to copy your phone book to the other handset one number at a time or you can copy the entire phone book!! NICE!!
3. Good looking.
4. Easy to set up and use.
5. Phone has a comfortable feel in your hand.
6. It's light but doesn't feel cheep.
7. Room monitoring and DirectLink features are very cool. Room monitor is pretty self explanatory and DirectLink allows you to use the phones like walkie talkies.
8. I've had no problems with this phone interfering with my wireless lan (your mileage may vary)

Cons.
1. Each hand set's caller ID list must be cleared independently (WHY can't someone produce a phone where clearing the caller ID list on one phone clears it on the other!?!)
2. Reception isn't 100% clear

If I had known everything I know now about this phone when I placed the order, I would have still purchased it. So far, it's fantastic!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good features, disappointing range and sound
I've had 2 previous Uniden cordless phones and have been pleased, so I purchased the multi-phone system and one extra handset. I like the system's many features, especially the caller ID visible in 3 locations now, and the distinctive ring tones you can assign to incoming numbers. I am unhappy with the poor range of the handsets, however. My daughter's room is about 60 or 70 feet from the base unit, and she cannot use the phones there. (I wish to leave the base unit close to the back door so we can check messages when we come into the house). My previous Uniden cordless reached her room with no problem. Outside in the "walkie talkie" or direct link mode, I found the range to be about 300 yards, not enough to talk to a family member at a mall or amusement park. Also, I am unhappy with the hollow sound, an echo-like sound when I speak, it sounds like I can hear myself talking in my own ear - distracting. The old Uniden did not do that either. Overall, I like the multi-phone part, but the basic performance is not up to expectation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very impressive!
I did a lot of reserch before purchasing this phone, and am very happy with this purchase. I just had a new baby and found a bunch of new uses for this phone:
- Baby monitor feature for when baby is not sleeping in his crib. You just set one phone by him and listen with the other one (phone calls still come in)
- Mom can "call" me on the intercom feature when she is nursing and does not want to yell
- Selectable ring tones for different people prevent me from having to answer the phone when certain in-laws are calling
- In the future, I can see where the walkie-talkie will be nice when going to the mall, beach, etc.
- Each phone has a speaker phone so you don't need to hold the phone to your ear

The answering machine on this phone is great and very clear. There is a blinking light on each phone that informs you of a new message, so you don't have to go to the base to retrieve messages. Buy this phone, you will not be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great phone!
I've been buying panasonic cordless phones for the last few years primarily due to availability where I live. I picked up this Uniden phone over the weekend(3 handsets) and have nothing but good things to say about the sound quality, reception and features available. Each individual phone unit has a speakerphone built in, they can be set up as room monitors and have some fun things like ringtones to play with if that is your thing. This is the best cordless I've purchased to date. ... Read more
