Amazon.com Product Description In scanning mode, The BC350C scans programmed channels at the rate of up to 100 channels per second until it locates an active frequency. When scanning stops on an active frequency, it remains on that channel as long as the transmission continues. When the transmission ends, the scanner stays on the channel for 2 more seconds, waiting for another transmission. If no response is detected, the scanning cycle resumes until another transmission is received. The BC350C monitors these communication types: The BC350C ships with a DC power connector and a cigarette lighter adapter, making it ready for permanent or temporary vehicle use. The cosmetics are great -- chrome dials, silver face, green back-lighting, analog signal meter. The unit is not a compact unit, but I was able to fit it under the radio in my '96 Ford Ranger without too much trouble. The 9' microphone cord seemed really long to me when I saw that on the spec sheet, but it is actually about perfect. There are a couple of downsides: The Dynamic Squelch Control is completely useless. As far as I can tell, it just automatically sets the squelch to a higher-than-appropriate level. With DSC on, you miss all low-powered transmissions and some high-powered ones. DSC works great if you're only interested in a ~300' radius. I never turn mine on. The other downside is that it's nearly impossible to determine the knob positions by sight. That is, you can't easily look down and see that the volume is at 1/2 and squelch is at 1/8, etc. Neither of these downsides are that big of a deal, though. BTW, I use the RF Gain control much more than squelch to fine tune my reception. Don't buy a CB radio without RF Gain. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review Setting up the BC 895XLT was simple--we attached the antenna, plugged in the AC adapter, and turned on the unit. With so many function buttons on the face of the unit, using the BC 895XLT may seem daunting without consulting the manual. However, the manual is incredibly user friendly, with definitions of all functions, pictures, and step-by-step instructions for performing certain applications. It also includes a foldout diagram of the face of the unit with descriptions of each button so you can easily reference while skimming the manual. With 300 channels, the BC 895XLT provides more programmable channels than most scanners.Organized into 10 bank keys that hold 30 programmed frequencies each, the scanner can also be preprogrammed with 10 priority channels. We had no problem performing basic operations and programming active frequencies into selected channels and banks. Features such as scanning, channel lockout, weather alert, and searching were relatively easy to figure out using the operating guide. More advanced features such as CTCSS operation and trunk tracking, while more complicated, were also accessible. One nice touch is the squelch control, which raises or lowers the "Squelch Gate" so that you can control what kind of signals get in and eliminate the constant hiss that accompanies weak signals. We also appreciated the adjustable LCD backlight, which makes the display easy to read in almost any condition, and the desktop stand, which allows you to see and use the scanner at a more viewable angle. The auxiliary jack lets you connect an external recorder so that you can automatically record any activity on a specified channel. There is also an external speaker jack that can be used to connect headphones for private listening. The unit ships with a Betty Bearcat Starter Frequency Guide that lists some statewide and city frequencies used by police and fire departments, weather services, forest rangers, as well as ham radio operators and miscellaneous frequency assignments. You can also order the Betty Bearcat Regional and National Police Directories or Mr. Scanner's Local Frequency List for more in-depth listings including rescue squad, local government, forestry radio, marine radio, aircraft, amateur radio, and federal government frequencies. If you're interested only in simple radio scanning and tracking, then take a look at a lower-end model. But if you're an expert radio operator looking for a super-powerful tracking device, you'll be thrilled with the BC 895XLT. The folks at Uniden thought of everything when designing this one. Pros: Features Reviews (10)
I like the BC 895XLT because: - Fast scanning of 100 channels / second. The Radio Shack (GRE made) scanners that I own only go 25 channels/second. And while they are more technically sophisticated, I miss the scan speed which is desirable if you live in a busy area. - CTCSS tone capability - What this does is let you enter in a special "code" that filters out different companies using a frequency. In busy urban areas it is not unusual to have three or four businesses on the same frequency. They use a special code called a "PL" code which allows their radios to only hear their broadcasts. The 895xlt supports the use of the PL tone through the CTCSS tone capability built in. You might want to rethink your purchase if: - You want to follow BOTH trunked and conventional frequencies at the same time. This scanner only follows one or the other --- and if you are following trunked frequencies you'll only be able to monitor one bank of them at a time. - This scanner does not monitor a common type of trunked frequency called EDACS. Overall: I strongly recommend this scanner. Even though it has a few limitations, you cannot beat the price/performance. In reality I have found that I monitor very few trunked frequencies -- and that the bulk of my local action is the local PD and FD. Even if one town is trunked there is usually more than enough action to be heard on surrounding towns. My one exception to the above advice is if I lived in NY or another big city that had LOTS of trunking, I'd probably wait for the 780xlt model.

Amazon.com Product Description Some of us need much more from our phones than just a little redial button. Sometimes a flash feature simply isn't enough. For users who demand extensive features, Uniden's TRU5885-2 delivers. Functioning at a quiet, nearly interference-free 5.8 GHz, the two handsets use digital spread spectrum transmission for exceptional range and minimal static. The three-line handset LCDs work in conjunction with caller ID services, storing 100 names and numbers in addition to the speed-dial presets. The dual speakerphones (both on the handsets and base) let you talk hands-free or get the whole family in on the conversation. The phone also features an integrated digital answering machine with all the features you'd expect, like remote message check. And yes, the phone does feature the basics, like flash, pause, hold, and redial with memory storage of the last three numbers dialed. In addition, you can dial either from the handsets or from the base. Note that this phone is not expandable beyond the two included handsets and chargers. NiMH batteries and a one-year warranty are included. What's in the Box Features Reviews (70)

Amazon.com Product Description Best of all, the BC780XLT solves the problems caused by trunking. In a trunked radio system, users are divided into talkgroups in order to save frequencies, and the groups are assigned particular IDs. When someone in a talkgroup uses their radio, a brief burst of data is broadcast before each transmission. The trunking system computer uses this data to temporarily assign each radio in a talkgroup to an available frequency. But if the group using a frequency stops broadcasting or pauses between replies for a few seconds, they are removed from the frequency so another talkgroup can use it. Trunking allows organizations to accommodate hundreds of users with relatively few frequencies. However, following a conversation on a trunked system using a typical scanner can be nearly impossible, because when there is a short break during the conversation you're monitoring, the talkgroup may be assigned to a completely different frequency. Uniden BC780XLT 500 Channel Scanning Radio with TrunkTracker III solves this problem by allowing you to follow the users of a trunked radio system. Once you know a talkgroup ID, you won't miss any action as the TrunkTracker III will follow the ID from frequency to frequency. The Uniden BC780XLT 500 Channel Scanning Radio with TrunkTracker III is a powerful, robust system. Although tracking trunked radio systems may seem out of reach for the beginner, any scanning enthusiast will tell you that tracking talkgroups is essential. So whether you're a novice looking for a great conventional scanner with endless room for growth, or a seasoned scanning veteran, the Uniden BC780XLT 500 Channel Scanning Radio with TrunkTracker III is an excellent choice for all your scanning needs. What's in the Box Features Reviews (2)
The BC-780XLT provides both traditional frequency scanning, as well as trunk-tracking. Traditional scanning lets you program frequencies into memory banks, and then scan through them looking for active signals. You can also search ranges by programming the low and high endpoints, and having the scanner search between them for active frequencies. With 10 banks of 50 frequencies each, the BC-780XLT provides reasonable room for even the most crowded airwaves. (And, as discussed further below, the ability to upload and download the scanner from a computer extends this ability significantly.) Individual banks can be turned on and off, and individual channels can be explicitly locked out, allowing you to finely tailor your scan. Where this unit differs from traditional scanners is in its ability to track trunked systems. In such systems a small set of frequencies is shared by many different organizations (e.g., police, fire, public works), and rather than assigning fixed frequencies to specific units, the frequencies are assigned dynamically as needed. The result is that a single conversation may hop between frequencies as it progresses. Tracking this with a traditional scanner is nearly impossible, as a single frequency will play host to parts of different conversations, and a single conversation is strewn across multiple frequencies. The trunk-tracking scanner is able to use the information on the system's control channel to follow the conversation, just like the radios of the participants. The result is that you follow a single conversation, rather than just a single frequency. Uniden offers several models of trunk-tracking scanner, including the lower-priced 895, and the handheld 245. The 895 is limited to tracking either trunked systems or traditional frequencies at any one time. The 780 (and 245), on the other hand, can intermingle trunk and regular frequencies within a single memory bank, and be set to scan through both of them, or between banks which contain any combination of trunked and standard frequencies. For me, where the 780 really excels is in its alphanumeric display. In addition to having an alpha tag for each channel, you are able to set up scan lists of talk group IDs. Talk group IDs represent a logical channel (rather than a single frequency), such as the police department's dispatch channels ("Dispatch 1" "Dispatch 2"). When following a trunked system, the scanner tracks talk groups, rather than individual frequencies, and the labeling will show you an alpha tag for the talk group (e.g., "Tactical 1"), rather than just he Motorola or EDACS ID number. This makes it much easier to know who you're listening to. Public trunked systems are well documented (either on the Web, or in publications such as "Police Call"), but for those that simply appear out of thin air (you might stumble on a system's control channel while searching frequency ranges, for example), the 780 will also help you find the full set of frequencies. Once you have found the control channel in a Motorola system, you can use a "control channel only" mode to ferret out the rest of the system's frequencies. The 780 has a serial port through which the unit can be programmed or driven by computer. There are numerous software packages for accomplishing this, available through the many on-line 780 discussion groups and websites. It's a good thing, too, as 500 channels, plus 10 trunk scan lists of 100 group IDs each (1000 total) would be nearly impossible to program through the scanner's front console. By keeping separate frequency files on your computer, you can easily download different sets of parameters (i.e., should you have more than 500 frequencies you want to keep track of). The front console and menu system are reasonably easy to understand, given the complex function available in this receiver. A novice user can get up and running with traditional frequency scanning very quickly, and the unit come with introductory frequency guides. Getting a trunked system programmed is a bit more work, but still not too complicated. The manual has most of the operational detail you'll need, though it's not always well organized as a reference (e.g., items mentioned in passing in one section may not be repeated elsewhere where you might go looking for it). The manual also contains a few mistakes. The numerous on-line discussion groups can help out if you get stuck. The reception with the included whip antenna is excellent in dense, urban areas. Where stations are weaker, obviously, an external antenna will be needed. The sound quality out of the bottom firing speaker is very listenable, though an external speaker (for which a connection is included) would improve the audio quality. The unit comes with both a wall-wart 120v adapter, as well as power cords for connection to a car battery and a car's cigarette lighter. Reports of mobile usage have been very positive. Overall this has been a great purchase. I picked the 780 over the 895 primarily for the 780's sophisticated alpha tagging system, and secondarily for its ability to track trunked and non-trunked systems at the same time. Both features have turned out to be essential to my enjoyment. Hopefully Uniden will get all of these features into a handheld unit!

The only disappointment was the range of my phones was only about 80 feet from the base. In spite of the range problem, I love these phones.
My only issues ... The caller id doesn't allow for a number 1 to be added to a number that you want to return a call to. In our area, we need to dial a 1+area code to dial the next door neighbor. The speakerphone has too much static, but I don't use that feature often. It certainly doesn't sound as good as the handset. The base could have been designed a bit better to stand vertical. Again, not a big deal. We can't seem to get into the habit of hitting End to finish a call. Everyone (family, friends and neighbors) taps the large Talk button again when they are done with a call and set the phone down. About a minute later you hear the sound of a phone off the hook. Having said all that, we really like the phones. -Sam
We finally just bought the cheaper 2.4 model ourselves and unplugged this phone and answering machine. Now it just sits here and looks pretty for when the parents come over. I definitely don't recommend it. I feel bad that they paid so much for it and it turned out to be such a bad system.

WORST customer service I've ever encountered. Well, except for Dell, but that's another review. I recommend the Panasonic MultiTalk. It costs a little more but worth it.
1. I have a minor hearing problem and I'm sensitive to volume levels. The loudest setting of this phone is what is closer to the medium setting of most other phones. I would like to see a future model offer one or two more amplified levels of volume. The clarity of this phone, however, lets it get away with this much more than the average phone could. 2. I have not, as of yet, found a headset that works well with this phone. This makes it mildly inconvenient for telecommuters like myself. Playtronics headsets work okay, but it's not a stellar match-up. The saving grace is that the speakerphone is very clear, but many clients don't like being on speaker phones. Overall I am very happy with this little system and have not encountered any concerns in performance or usability over the course of a year. Some of the buttons are small, but in a month or so of using the phone, your hands will instinctively find the right spots, and it's worth it to have an overall compact phone that maintains clarity.
The phone(s) arrived the day after the email alerting me it had been shipped! It is an attractive set, not big, bulky or obtrusive. The handset is fine by me, but I do agree with the END button - the only way I knew how this worked was that a friend of mine has a much older version of this phone. Otherwise I am pleased as punch - Amazon does it again! ... Read more
