Amazon.com Product Description

Get in on all the action with the Uniden BC350C, a powerful radio scanning and searching unit. In search mode, The BC350C can search 13 bands to find active frequencies. This differs from scanning in that the unit searches for frequencies that have not been programmed into the scanner's channels. The scanner automatically chooses between two speeds (Search and Turbo Search) while searching. During search mode the scanner will search 100 frequencies per second, while in Turbo Search Mode the scanner can achieve up to 300 frequencies per second in bands that have 5 kHz steps.

In scanning mode, The BC350C scans programmed channels at the rate of up to 100 channels per second until it locates an active frequency. When scanning stops on an active frequency, it remains on that channel as long as the transmission continues. When the transmission ends, the scanner stays on the channel for 2 more seconds, waiting for another transmission. If no response is detected, the scanning cycle resumes until another transmission is received.

The BC350C monitors these communication types:

  • Police and fire departments (including rescue and paramedics)
  • NOAA weather broadcasts (10 pre-programmed channels, 2 are Canadian Marine Weather Channels)
  • Citizens Band (CB)
  • Business/industrial radio
  • Motion picture and press relay
  • Utility
  • Land transportation frequencies, such as trucking firms, buses, taxis, tow trucks, and railroads
  • Marine and amateur (ham radio) bands
  • Air band
  • Many more in the 25-54 MHz, 108-174 MHz, 406-512, and 806-956 MHz ranges, excluding the cellular telephone band

The BC350C ships with a DC power connector and a cigarette lighter adapter, making it ready for permanent or temporary vehicle use.

What's in the Box
BC350C scanner, telescoping antenna, fixable mobile antenna, AC adapter, cigarette lighter adapter plug, DC power cord for hard wiring power from your car to your scanner, operating guide, registration form, frequency guide, warranty card, and other printed materials

4-0 out of 5 stars Quality Radio for Cheap
I recently bought one of these radios for my semi tractor. I immediately fell in love with the backlit controls. Years ago, I owned the Cobra version of this radio, but I didn't like it as much as this one. The controls are laid out very logically and have a nice feel. The Delta tune has a center detent for "eyes free" operation as you drive. The weather channels are a welcome addition to a long drive, keeping you informed of changing and/or severe weather ahead. The only things I didn't care that much for are the Dynamic Squelch feature and the front mic connector. DSC doesn't seem to work too well, but I drive with the squelch off (to hear distant signals), so this doesn't detract from an otherwise great radio. Having owned various Cobras, Galaxies, and other "big" radios, I can honestly say I like the Uniden PC78LTW the best. ... Read more

A 5.8 GHz digital signal offers increased call clarity and security, while the built-in digital answering system and caller ID capabilities ensure that you won't miss important calls or lose a valuable phone number. The phone system requires just one phone jack--simply plug in the base unit, and the additional handsets will configure themselves to "talk" directly with the base unit without the need for additional jacks. This package includes one additional handset (for a total of two) but lets you add up to eight more (model TCX800) for a total of 10 handsets.

Housed in a sleek, modern-looking silver and black design, this model is ideal for small offices or busy households. It features a 100-name-and-number shared caller ID/memory log, and allows you to transfer stored numbers between handsets. Search for numbers using an alphabetic search tool similar to those found on most cell phones.

The TRU8880-2 base unit houses a digital answering system with remote operation. It has the somewhat unique ability to record phone conversations, so make sure to inform your callers appropriately. Additional features include an LED message counter on the base, an audible message alert tone, and message waiting indicators on each supplemental handset's charging cradle.

Additional features include base and handset speakerphone capability, conferencing, trilingual menu display options, distinctive ring tones, mute, hold, redial, headset compatibility, and more. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent CB
This CB is perfect for any person interested in CB radios. Mounted it in my 94 Ford Explorer easily. Every aspect of the CB is useful. The dynamic squelch is very useful for beginners when they're not quite sure how to set the squelch just right. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a CB.

5-0 out of 5 stars My first CB Radio
This unit looks and works great. Installation was easy and the performance has been great. Has all the adjustments that I was looking for plus the weather channels. I didn't really want the weather channels at the time of purchase, but I'm glad I have them now.

The cosmetics are great -- chrome dials, silver face, green back-lighting, analog signal meter.

The unit is not a compact unit, but I was able to fit it under the radio in my '96 Ford Ranger without too much trouble. The 9' microphone cord seemed really long to me when I saw that on the spec sheet, but it is actually about perfect.

There are a couple of downsides: The Dynamic Squelch Control is completely useless. As far as I can tell, it just automatically sets the squelch to a higher-than-appropriate level. With DSC on, you miss all low-powered transmissions and some high-powered ones. DSC works great if you're only interested in a ~300' radius. I never turn mine on.

The other downside is that it's nearly impossible to determine the knob positions by sight. That is, you can't easily look down and see that the volume is at 1/2 and squelch is at 1/8, etc.

Neither of these downsides are that big of a deal, though.

BTW, I use the RF Gain control much more than squelch to fine tune my reception. Don't buy a CB radio without RF Gain. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

The Uniden Bearcat TrunkTracker BC 895XLT is a scanner for the serious radio enthusiast. The BC 895XLT is packed with an impressive array of features, such as trunk tracking, delay, lockout, search and scan, Continuous Tone Control Squelch System (CTCSS), one-touch weather scan, and severe weather alert. In addition, this scanner has a strong frequency range of 29 MHz to 965 MHz.

Setting up the BC 895XLT was simple--we attached the antenna, plugged in the AC adapter, and turned on the unit. With so many function buttons on the face of the unit, using the BC 895XLT may seem daunting without consulting the manual. However, the manual is incredibly user friendly, with definitions of all functions, pictures, and step-by-step instructions for performing certain applications. It also includes a foldout diagram of the face of the unit with descriptions of each button so you can easily reference while skimming the manual.

With 300 channels, the BC 895XLT provides more programmable channels than most scanners.Organized into 10 bank keys that hold 30 programmed frequencies each, the scanner can also be preprogrammed with 10 priority channels. We had no problem performing basic operations and programming active frequencies into selected channels and banks. Features such as scanning, channel lockout, weather alert, and searching were relatively easy to figure out using the operating guide. More advanced features such as CTCSS operation and trunk tracking, while more complicated, were also accessible.

One nice touch is the squelch control, which raises or lowers the "Squelch Gate" so that you can control what kind of signals get in and eliminate the constant hiss that accompanies weak signals. We also appreciated the adjustable LCD backlight, which makes the display easy to read in almost any condition, and the desktop stand, which allows you to see and use the scanner at a more viewable angle. The auxiliary jack lets you connect an external recorder so that you can automatically record any activity on a specified channel. There is also an external speaker jack that can be used to connect headphones for private listening.

The unit ships with a Betty Bearcat Starter Frequency Guide that lists some statewide and city frequencies used by police and fire departments, weather services, forest rangers, as well as ham radio operators and miscellaneous frequency assignments. You can also order the Betty Bearcat Regional and National Police Directories or Mr. Scanner's Local Frequency List for more in-depth listings including rescue squad, local government, forestry radio, marine radio, aircraft, amateur radio, and federal government frequencies.

If you're interested only in simple radio scanning and tracking, then take a look at a lower-end model. But if you're an expert radio operator looking for a super-powerful tracking device, you'll be thrilled with the BC 895XLT. The folks at Uniden thought of everything when designing this one.

Pros:

  • Easy-to-understand operation guide
  • Simple programming
  • Trunk tracking and CTCSS for more advanced users
  • Easy-to-read display

4-0 out of 5 stars Great scanner but can be hard to program
This is one gadget that you will need to read the manual before using. They squeeze a lot of options into this scanner. If you need to monitor a trunked system this one will do it. The only problem is that it could take you a while to figure out how. Overall, I highly recommend this product.

5-0 out of 5 stars SUPER SCANNER
This scanner is excellent for local coverage in your area only. Understand, most local frequencies cover a certain area, so dont be heartbroken if your unit does not reach over long periods. A great start up for scanner enthusiasts. One more downfall, searching for trunked system can be time consuming. Be patient and have fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast 100 Channel / Second Scanning
I have been using this scanner for about 3 weeks now. I own 4 other different models of scanners -- 2 from Radio Shack (PRO-92 / PRO-2067) and 2 from Uniden (BC 245XLT and BC 235XLT).

I like the BC 895XLT because:

- Fast scanning of 100 channels / second. The Radio Shack (GRE made) scanners that I own only go 25 channels/second. And while they are more technically sophisticated, I miss the scan speed which is desirable if you live in a busy area.

- CTCSS tone capability - What this does is let you enter in a special "code" that filters out different companies using a frequency. In busy urban areas it is not unusual to have three or four businesses on the same frequency. They use a special code called a "PL" code which allows their radios to only hear their broadcasts. The 895xlt supports the use of the PL tone through the CTCSS tone capability built in.

You might want to rethink your purchase if:

- You want to follow BOTH trunked and conventional frequencies at the same time. This scanner only follows one or the other --- and if you are following trunked frequencies you'll only be able to monitor one bank of them at a time.

- This scanner does not monitor a common type of trunked frequency called EDACS.

Overall:

I strongly recommend this scanner. Even though it has a few limitations, you cannot beat the price/performance. In reality I have found that I monitor very few trunked frequencies -- and that the bulk of my local action is the local PD and FD. Even if one town is trunked there is usually more than enough action to be heard on surrounding towns.

My one exception to the above advice is if I lived in NY or another big city that had LOTS of trunking, I'd probably wait for the 780xlt model.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is great!
This is one of the more well built scanners by uniden. I especially like the computer interface with the optional cable that you have to buy. I also like the built in CTCSS board. Over all this is a great buy!

4-0 out of 5 stars Scanner is the best out there; Service is the exact opposite
The BC895XLT is the best scanner you could get, especially when PC controlled. It is super simple to get operational even for beginners. Just punch in the frequencies and there you go, they even include partial lists of them. Not to mention they come in crystal clear. But if yours is to break, be prepared for an enormous hassle. You'll never talk to a real person and you have to blindly send the unit in for repair. Bottom line: Uniden's product is the best you could buy; you're not buying any service though. ... Read more

Note: The Uniden TRU5885-2 is no longer being manufactured. You may want to consider purchasing instead the newer Uniden TRU8885-2 5.8 GHz Digital Cordless Phone with Dual Handsets and Answering System.

Some of us need much more from our phones than just a little redial button. Sometimes a flash feature simply isn't enough. For users who demand extensive features, Uniden's TRU5885-2 delivers. Functioning at a quiet, nearly interference-free 5.8 GHz, the two handsets use digital spread spectrum transmission for exceptional range and minimal static. The three-line handset LCDs work in conjunction with caller ID services, storing 100 names and numbers in addition to the speed-dial presets.

The dual speakerphones (both on the handsets and base) let you talk hands-free or get the whole family in on the conversation. The phone also features an integrated digital answering machine with all the features you'd expect, like remote message check. And yes, the phone does feature the basics, like flash, pause, hold, and redial with memory storage of the last three numbers dialed. In addition, you can dial either from the handsets or from the base. Note that this phone is not expandable beyond the two included handsets and chargers. 5-0 out of 5 stars What a great phone!!
I recently purchased this phone as a replacement for an older Sony model that I had. What a wise purchase it was. For starters, 5.8 ghz is the latest in cordless phones. The reception is much crisper and clearer the the 900 mhz Sony. The digital answering machine works so well that I cancelled my voice mail. The second handset is so convenient; it has it's own seperate phone book memory, perfect for roomates sharing a single phone line. The ringer tones are pretty cool too, there are 10 different tones to chose from, including Merry Xmas just in time for the holidays, plus you can change the volume of the ringer to ring low or high, which is great for me, since the low volume is low enough to not wake up the kids during their afternoon nap. There is nothing about this phone that I don't like. The price is a little steep compared to some other phones out there, but well worth the price. 5 stars!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Uniden TRU5885-2 5.8 GHz
We are writing this review on the Uniden cordless phone

The Good:
We like the 5.8 Ghz because it does not interfere with our 802.11 G Linksys WIFI and because it sounds a lot clearer.
We liked the speed dial feature (Rocketdial) and the distinctive ring tones (very similiar to cell phone features).
It is very easy to use and to program the numbers.
We also liked the answering machine built in that is easy to turn on & off.
We like the ability to transfer calls from the base to the handset without having to go back to the base.

The Bad:
There is no low battery indicator on the handset.
Cannot add no more than 1 additional handset.
It would be nice if the base unit had a built in clock display and the handset would display the time when you are on a call.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best cordless phone so far!
I have been waiting to get a new house cordless phone for awhile now because I didn't see anything that caught my eye out there. A few of my friends have panasonic, siemens, and v-tech phones. They all say their ok, but could be better. I like the sony phones, but the handsets do not have speakerphones. Well, I went in the store and as soon as I saw this phone, I had to have it. It looks and feels incredible. I brought it home and started testing it out. It really is a great phone. I love the sound quality and all the features. Everything from distinctive ring, headset speakerphone, caller id,3 way conference, call transfer,100 phone book entries, lighted lcd screen and keypad, speeddial, adjustable headset earpiece volume, speaker volume, base ringer volume, headset ringer volume, auto answer, redial, mute, etc, etc. I love it. Buy this phone if you can. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rock solid, crystal clear, great features (READ MANUAL!)
This is a really good phone that's taken a lot of drops and keeps on ticking. It's solidly constructed, well-engineered, and built much better than the GE/Motorola disposable phones. Plus, it looks a heck of a lot better than the other phones. I've had this since it first came out, and there's been no problems despite the accidental drops or what have you of daily heavy usage. The built-in speakerphone on each handset continues to be a stunning feature. Also, the battery life is ridiculously long, and this makes up for the lack of a battery meter. Think of this phone as a Toyota and the others as GM. Which would you trust if they made your life support systems? Enough said. The only thing that could have been improved upon: -Expandability of handsets limited (not really a problem for most). -There is no instant synchronization of stored numbers from one phone to the other (something I miss about my old Sony phone). -As mentioned before, the only warning of a low battery is an audible alert/led msg (while you are using it) that the battery is low. From that point on, you only have about a minute or so of talk time left. Like anything in life, you get what you put into it. Read the manual. Learn what this phone allows you to do. Despite a previous poster's comments, this phone easily allows you to toggle on/off the 1- (by pressing *) and the area code (by pressing #) of your caller ID listings. It's in the manual, if the previous poster had actually bothered to read it before posting his mental spasms (a priceless moment). There is a newer model out (TRU8885-2) that addresses the few shortcomings of this phone and adds some cool new ones like a smaller and better base station, albeit imo it does not look as nice. -a NYer who can actually read

my fiance and I have both had uniden 900 megahertz for almost a decade. When we met, we both had the same phone and continued to use them for five more years! I loved uniden, so I was really excited when this new cool looking phone came out. we waited for the price to drop somewhat and finally bought it. Well, I'm not so impressed. the main thing is that it cuts out or breaks up when i'm in my office. Every phone conversation I have to walk into the living room b/c it gets somewhat better reception out there. it's worse than my cell phone by far. i don't really use the fancy features. answering machine works well, it's very modern looking, but i'm upset every time I have to move around the house to get good reception. I think there have to be better phones out there, esp for the $$$$. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars pleased so far...
After a great deal of deliberation I finally settled on this budget Uniden EXAI 978i to replace an older ATT model that was beginning to get buggy. My wife and I were looking for a speaker-phone model but could not find one that matched our needs well enough. I must say that I have been thoroughly pleased with this Uniden, though. Reception and transmission are both very clear and the unit is very small and designed with a small footprint for desktop use. We do not use the caller ID so I can't offer any insight there, but the digital answering system seems to be quite clear and intuitive. All in all, an excellent value. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The Uniden BC780XLT 500 Channel Scanning Radio with TrunkTracker III is a state-of-the-art radio with automatic scanning capabilities. It can store frequencies in 10 banks of 50 channels each. The BC780XLT always has up-to-date information with the SmartScanner function that allows you to automatically program your scanner by downloading directly from the Uniden/Bearcat national frequency database through your PC. The BC780XLT monitors police and fire departments, VHF high band, UHF, 800/900 MHz trunked public safety systems, trunking for Motorola, EDACS and LTR systems, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather information broadcasts, and much more.

Best of all, the BC780XLT solves the problems caused by trunking. In a trunked radio system, users are divided into talkgroups in order to save frequencies, and the groups are assigned particular IDs. When someone in a talkgroup uses their radio, a brief burst of data is broadcast before each transmission. The trunking system computer uses this data to temporarily assign each radio in a talkgroup to an available frequency. But if the group using a frequency stops broadcasting or pauses between replies for a few seconds, they are removed from the frequency so another talkgroup can use it.

Trunking allows organizations to accommodate hundreds of users with relatively few frequencies. However, following a conversation on a trunked system using a typical scanner can be nearly impossible, because when there is a short break during the conversation you're monitoring, the talkgroup may be assigned to a completely different frequency.

Uniden BC780XLT 500 Channel Scanning Radio with TrunkTracker III solves this problem by allowing you to follow the users of a trunked radio system. Once you know a talkgroup ID, you won't miss any action as the TrunkTracker III will follow the ID from frequency to frequency.

The Uniden BC780XLT 500 Channel Scanning Radio with TrunkTracker III is a powerful, robust system. Although tracking trunked radio systems may seem out of reach for the beginner, any scanning enthusiast will tell you that tracking talkgroups is essential. So whether you're a novice looking for a great conventional scanner with endless room for growth, or a seasoned scanning veteran, the Uniden BC780XLT 500 Channel Scanning Radio with TrunkTracker III is an excellent choice for all your scanning needs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazingly feature-packed trunk tracking scanner
Given that this is my first scanner, some of my enthusiasm for its features and ease-of-use might simply be naivete. On the other hand, having a fairly deep technical background, I think my appreciation of this unit's abilities and organization are mostly based on Uniden's exceptional design. Over and over I find that this unit operates just as I'd like it to, showing that it's the clear result of several generations of refined scanner design.

The BC-780XLT provides both traditional frequency scanning, as well as trunk-tracking. Traditional scanning lets you program frequencies into memory banks, and then scan through them looking for active signals. You can also search ranges by programming the low and high endpoints, and having the scanner search between them for active frequencies. With 10 banks of 50 frequencies each, the BC-780XLT provides reasonable room for even the most crowded airwaves. (And, as discussed further below, the ability to upload and download the scanner from a computer extends this ability significantly.) Individual banks can be turned on and off, and individual channels can be explicitly locked out, allowing you to finely tailor your scan.

Where this unit differs from traditional scanners is in its ability to track trunked systems. In such systems a small set of frequencies is shared by many different organizations (e.g., police, fire, public works), and rather than assigning fixed frequencies to specific units, the frequencies are assigned dynamically as needed. The result is that a single conversation may hop between frequencies as it progresses. Tracking this with a traditional scanner is nearly impossible, as a single frequency will play host to parts of different conversations, and a single conversation is strewn across multiple frequencies. The trunk-tracking scanner is able to use the information on the system's control channel to follow the conversation, just like the radios of the participants. The result is that you follow a single conversation, rather than just a single frequency.

Uniden offers several models of trunk-tracking scanner, including the lower-priced 895, and the handheld 245. The 895 is limited to tracking either trunked systems or traditional frequencies at any one time. The 780 (and 245), on the other hand, can intermingle trunk and regular frequencies within a single memory bank, and be set to scan through both of them, or between banks which contain any combination of trunked and standard frequencies.

For me, where the 780 really excels is in its alphanumeric display. In addition to having an alpha tag for each channel, you are able to set up scan lists of talk group IDs. Talk group IDs represent a logical channel (rather than a single frequency), such as the police department's dispatch channels ("Dispatch 1" "Dispatch 2"). When following a trunked system, the scanner tracks talk groups, rather than individual frequencies, and the labeling will show you an alpha tag for the talk group (e.g., "Tactical 1"), rather than just he Motorola or EDACS ID number. This makes it much easier to know who you're listening to.

Public trunked systems are well documented (either on the Web, or in publications such as "Police Call"), but for those that simply appear out of thin air (you might stumble on a system's control channel while searching frequency ranges, for example), the 780 will also help you find the full set of frequencies. Once you have found the control channel in a Motorola system, you can use a "control channel only" mode to ferret out the rest of the system's frequencies.

The 780 has a serial port through which the unit can be programmed or driven by computer. There are numerous software packages for accomplishing this, available through the many on-line 780 discussion groups and websites. It's a good thing, too, as 500 channels, plus 10 trunk scan lists of 100 group IDs each (1000 total) would be nearly impossible to program through the scanner's front console. By keeping separate frequency files on your computer, you can easily download different sets of parameters (i.e., should you have more than 500 frequencies you want to keep track of).

The front console and menu system are reasonably easy to understand, given the complex function available in this receiver. A novice user can get up and running with traditional frequency scanning very quickly, and the unit come with introductory frequency guides. Getting a trunked system programmed is a bit more work, but still not too complicated. The manual has most of the operational detail you'll need, though it's not always well organized as a reference (e.g., items mentioned in passing in one section may not be repeated elsewhere where you might go looking for it). The manual also contains a few mistakes. The numerous on-line discussion groups can help out if you get stuck.

The reception with the included whip antenna is excellent in dense, urban areas. Where stations are weaker, obviously, an external antenna will be needed. The sound quality out of the bottom firing speaker is very listenable, though an external speaker (for which a connection is included) would improve the audio quality. The unit comes with both a wall-wart 120v adapter, as well as power cords for connection to a car battery and a car's cigarette lighter. Reports of mobile usage have been very positive.

Overall this has been a great purchase. I picked the 780 over the 895 primarily for the 780's sophisticated alpha tagging system, and secondarily for its ability to track trunked and non-trunked systems at the same time. Both features have turned out to be essential to my enjoyment. Hopefully Uniden will get all of these features into a handheld unit!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best scanner by far!
This scanner is by far one of the best ever! The receive is very sensitive. The display is large and easy to read. The back light can be set to off/med/high. The 780 also does a great job at following the trunked systems. You can also create your own text tags for channels or talkgroups. The WX alert is the best I ever seen on a scanner. You can enter the exact FIPS code for your County. By entering the FIPS codes eliminate false alerts. Great radio for the all around user. Did I mention it also has a computer interface? That is right you can control it with your computer (software is aftermarket, there is some "freeware" on the web). ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Poor Sound Quality
The phone looks great and has lots of nice features that are all very easy to set up and use, but the sound quality is awful. When talking on the phone, I can hear the person I am talking to perfectly, but there is also a high pitched background noise that both I and the person to whom I am talking can hear. The people I am talking to also say that they cannot hear me very well and that it sounds like I am talking in a can. I tried all the trouble shooting techniques listed in the handbook including moving the base unit around, turning off everything else electrical in my house (except the refrigerator which was far away), changing channels, changing my DSL filters, and a few other things which I forget. Finally I called Uniden, went through some trouble shooting with them, and was told to exchange the phone because they thought it might be defective. So I went to a local store, purchased another phone, tested it, and had the same problems. So both phones went back. I really wanted to get the phone to work properly because I really liked the way it looked, but I couldn't and the sound problems were too annoying to live with. I ended up purchasing the VTech 5831 5.8 GHz phone instead. The looks aren't as nice, but the sound quality on the VTech is excellent, even on the speaker phone. Some of the VTech features are also nicer. For instance, the memory locations on the Uniden are not big enough to hold my calling card number and pin in one location, while the Vtech memory locations can hold my calling card number and pin with lots of room to spare.

4-0 out of 5 stars Uniden 5860-2 5.8Ghz Phones - supurb sound and features
Absolutely supurb sound quality in both handsets; Caller ID + Call Waiting ID + Handset speakerphones + distinctive ringing + many other great features.

The only disappointment was the range of my phones was only about 80 feet from the base.

In spite of the range problem, I love these phones.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good pair for a good price.
Our 2.4 system (vtech) was approaching unusable due to static. I finally decided to give the 5.8 phones a try. The phones work great. Clear as a bell. The other reviews capture the qualities of these phones.

My only issues ...
There is no battery indicator. Only the battery low beep, when the battery is about to die. I've grown accustomed to some type of indicator to show me the current status.

The caller id doesn't allow for a number 1 to be added to a number that you want to return a call to. In our area, we need to dial a 1+area code to dial the next door neighbor.

The speakerphone has too much static, but I don't use that feature often. It certainly doesn't sound as good as the handset.

The base could have been designed a bit better to stand vertical. Again, not a big deal.

We can't seem to get into the habit of hitting End to finish a call. Everyone (family, friends and neighbors) taps the large Talk button again when they are done with a call and set the phone down. About a minute later you hear the sound of a phone off the hook.

Having said all that, we really like the phones.

-Sam

1-0 out of 5 stars I receive this phone as a gift, and we don't use it anymore.
My parents purchased this phone for us for Christmas last year. My dad is an electronics king, and loves to research to find the "best" of everything. Well, he was misled on this phone. There was always background noise, we could never hear the people we were talking to, and they could never hear us well.
Also, the answering machine wouldn't stop playing unless we answered this phone. If we picked up any of the others in the house, it would keep playing.

We finally just bought the cheaper 2.4 model ourselves and unplugged this phone and answering machine. Now it just sits here and looks pretty for when the parents come over. I definitely don't recommend it. I feel bad that they paid so much for it and it turned out to be such a bad system.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone - Premium Price
I have owned this phone for approx 6 months now. I purchased it as an upgrade to my 2.4ghz Uniden phone that interfered with a cordless baby monitor. I can say the phone is great and provides no interference to any of my existing electronics. Good reception, good range and nice speaker phone option. Also, allows for a headset. In my opinion, the best cordless available, but it does come at a premium price. Amazon has the best price I have seen on this phone'in fact I just ordered another one for my mother. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great phone except for one problem
This is a great phone. It had all the features I was looking for -- 2 lines, conf, call waiting, call id, transfer, mute, headset jacks, volume, ringer on/off. The only problem is that you cannot turn off the ringer on the handset. If your talking on one line and another call comes through on the other, it rings loudly in your ear. I called Tech Support and you cannot turn this off -- only to hi or low volume (and 'low' isn't that low). If it weren't for this, I'd recommend it highly.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cannot recommend it
After less than one year, I am shopping for a new phone. The handset does not work anymore. I replaced the battery thinking that was the problem but it wasn't. When I click on one of the lines, there is either no sound at all, no dial-tone or anything OR it is just static and fuzz.

I hope my next phone lasts longer than this one did!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a good desk phone!
I bought this phone with the intention of using it in my home office. The caller-id function is very important to me. Unfortunately, the phone lays to flat for you to see the caller-id display or read the keypad. Also, speakerphone volume is really loud, even when turned all the way down. I am taking this phone back.

1-0 out of 5 stars A terrible phone
I bought this phone last Christmas and within two months the handset quit working unless you bang it on something. It also will not hold a charge. What a waste of money!

3-0 out of 5 stars clear phone
You might not like the price on this, no matter how low the sale is, but you will see it all worth it when it arrives. If you find it hard to hear the other line walking around your house, then I suggest you move. This phone is so clear, when your in the same room with it's charger, it will seem as if you are actully in the same room with your chatter. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Breaks easily and the WORST customer service
Had to send the base unit back TWICE due to it not charging the handset. Was able to send it back after many, many phone calls and explanations to the rep. Have had this phone for less than one year and already hate it for it's unreliability and lack of functions.

WORST customer service I've ever encountered. Well, except for Dell, but that's another review.

I recommend the Panasonic MultiTalk. It costs a little more but worth it.

3-0 out of 5 stars using it as a speakerphone didn't work
The handsets for this worked great but the mic for the speakerphone was under the machine so to get it to pick up my voice at all I had to lift it up and talk into it. Since this kind of defeats the purpose of a speakerphone, I had to return it. I'm bummed - it worked great otherwise.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still The Best After A Year
I have been using this product for about a year now (since April 2003) and it is literally the happiest I have ever been with a retail cordless phone system. I telecommute and I am on the phone constantly with work and clients, to say nothing of family and friends. Despite 5+ hours a day of talk time, these phones never seem to lose their charge or their clarity. The only problem I have with clarity is if someone is running the microwave oven, otherwise the connection is always crisp. The separate stored numbers allow me to have one phone with all my personal information on it, and my roommate to have a separate one. Other reviewers have cited this as a flaw, but anyone living with a teenager or roommate will see it as a blessing. Others have stated that it's a flaw that both phones cannot be on at the same time. As a telecommuter I am grateful for this feature; when I am on a business call there are no unprofessional interruptions made by someone in another part of the house accidentally picking up the phone to make a call while I am speaking on the other handset. The additional handset plugs into a regular outlet - so it provides a great way to have a phone in a room where there isn't a phone jack. The only reason I might have given this a 4 ½ star had it been an option would have been the following reasons:

1. I have a minor hearing problem and I'm sensitive to volume levels. The loudest setting of this phone is what is closer to the medium setting of most other phones. I would like to see a future model offer one or two more amplified levels of volume. The clarity of this phone, however, lets it get away with this much more than the average phone could.

2. I have not, as of yet, found a headset that works well with this phone. This makes it mildly inconvenient for telecommuters like myself. Playtronics headsets work okay, but it's not a stellar match-up. The saving grace is that the speakerphone is very clear, but many clients don't like being on speaker phones.

Overall I am very happy with this little system and have not encountered any concerns in performance or usability over the course of a year. Some of the buttons are small, but in a month or so of using the phone, your hands will instinctively find the right spots, and it's worth it to have an overall compact phone that maintains clarity.

5-0 out of 5 stars good
This is a great phone, especially if used across 2 floors. The base unit in the basement can easily be used with the handset unit placed in the upstairs. Calls are clear, but sometimes there is a "tunneling" effect, which is hardly noticible. the costomizable features of this phone are great, along with the phone book, caller id featers etc. buy it if you're looking for a phone that can be placed elsewhere in the house where a phone jack is unavailable!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very pleased with my purchase!
I have been "unofficially" shopping for a phone set like this for over a year, but when one of my cheap corded phones broke last week, I decided it was time - a Christmas present for myself if you will. The price is great, and Uniden is a good name in cordless phones - how could I pass this up?

The phone(s) arrived the day after the email alerting me it had been shipped! It is an attractive set, not big, bulky or obtrusive. The handset is fine by me, but I do agree with the END button - the only way I knew how this worked was that a friend of mine has a much older version of this phone. Otherwise I am pleased as punch - Amazon does it again! ... Read more
