Ideal for any large home, this stylish phone set allows you to place handsets in multiple locations, so you never miss a call. An autoscan feature automatically detects the channel with the least interference to provide the clearest possible reception.

Caller ID/call waiting compatible, the DXI-986-2 can store up to 30 numbers in the caller ID memory, while the display-and-dial feature lets you easily scroll through the list of calls and dial with the touch of a button. Up to 10 memory locations are available for the most frequently dialed numbers, and a RocketDial feature allows you to dial the most important number simply by pressing the RocketDial button. Each memory location supports up to 20 digits for numbers which require chain dialing. A redial button lets you quickly call the last outgoing number.

Handset and ringer volume controls allow you to easily adjust the phone's settings to your liking. The handsets are headset compatible (a belt clip is provided for hands-free operation) as well as hearing aid compatible for hearing-impaired users. A page button on the base makes finding a lost handset quick and painless, while the menu-driven handset LCD makes operation easy. A handset-to-handset call transfer function is provided, and a visual voice mail indicator on the base lets you know when you have message waiting. With the auto-talk feature turned on, you can answer calls simply by removing the phone from its cradle. The flash/talk button lets you switch to an incoming call (requires subscription to a fee-based service) and put the current conversation on hold. 4-0 out of 5 stars Very good phone for the money.
I have been using this phone for about 6 months now and it works just fine for me. The range is excellent and the time between recharges for the battery is the best of about 5 portables I've owned.

Only minor complaint is an ocassional slight background noise that might be coming from some appliance in my house. Not bad enough to distract me or the person I am talking to.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice phone
I have been using this phone for about 6 months now and it works perfectly. In fact, I am thinking of buying another set of them.

1-0 out of 5 stars VERY POOR PERFORMANCE
These are lovely little phones, but for us they have almost zero range and a tremendous amount of interference noise. Changing channels has no effect. No local reason, just a suburban home with no electical or industrial problems around. I have other Uniden cordless 900 MHz phones that are superb, but these guys have something wrong. I had two sets of them and both were awful performers. Save yourself some grief and look further. Amazon treated us superbly on the transaction, not their fault the phones are so weak. ... Amazon.com Product Description

Uniden's GMR885-2CK includes a pair of lightweight, palm-sized General Mobile Radio Service radios. Use them to maintain contact with family and friends at sporting events or while hiking, skiing, outdoors, or use them as critical tools in a neighborhood watch. These compact, state-of-the-art devices are equipped with many features.

Each GMR885-2CK radio is equipped with a user-selectable Voice Operated Transmitter (VOX) that you can use for hands-free voice transmissions when used with an optional headset and microphone (the Uniden HS2467). Transmission is initiated by speaking into the remote microphone instead of by pushing the PTT button.

The GMR885-2CK radios can also receive weather broadcasts from the NOAA National Weather Service. In weather-radio-alert mode, the system functions as it does in GMRS mode, but also monitors the selected weather channel for alerts when not communicating. While using the weather radio, you will not be able to receive GMRS communications.

Each radio works on 22 channels (15 GMRS, 7 FRS) and offers 38 CTCSS privacy codes you can use when talking with members of your party. In order to speak to someone, each of you must be set to the same channel and CTCSS code.

Channel scan lets you easily scan all 22 channels. When an active channel is detected, the radio will pause on that channel until the channel is clear. Then, after a 2 second delay, the radio will continue scanning. To transmit on a given channel, press the PTT button or power-boost button while the scan is paused on your desired channel.

A unique circuit dramatically extends the life of the batteries. If there is no transmission or incoming call within 3 seconds, the radios will switch to power-save mode. (They may still receive transmissions in this mode.)

Other features include a backlit LCD, keypad lock, channel monitor, a choice of 5 different call tones, and a roger beep.

Power the radios using the supplied rechargeable NiMH battery packs or 4 AAA alkaline batteries each (not included). If you use the rechargeable NiMH battery packs, the 2 radios can be charged simultaneously using the charging cradle. Each radio has a battery-level meter on its display to indicate the status of the batteries.

What's in the Box
Two GMR885 radios, 2 rechargeable NiMH battery packs (#BP38), an AC power adapter (#AC6248), a charging cradle (#RC8348), 2 belt clips, and a user's manual.

Note: Use of the General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) frequencies requires a Federal Communication Commission license. 5-0 out of 5 stars Uniden GMR885-2CK GMRS--- Great radio
Tested them out and its true. Took my boat out in the ocean and they work great at 5 miles. Haven't tested them yet in mountains.I'll be doing that soon. Very happy with this purchase from walmart. Everything is cheeper there. Well i been testing them and there a great radio. In the woods you get about 1.5 to 2 miles distance, depending on conditions. In around the wires and house in town about a mile. In open areas 3-4-5-6 miles. Yep i like it.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is better than audiovox or cobra
I tried Cobra 3 years ago (FRS) and the power management was horrible. The batteries were expensive and they didn't work after 2 years! Than we tried Audiovox 1 month ago and we took it back because of the range which was supposed to go 6 mi. But it didn't go even a quarter of a mile going through some trees.

Then I got these Uniden and they are the BEST I have ever had. The menus and the buttons are just perfect. Unlike the others this one had a separate menu to change the channel instead of being in the same menu as the vox, lock, privacy, etc. It's rating is 5 mi without boost and 8 mi with boost. And w\o boost it went three times as far as the audiovox which is rated 6 mi. Then with the boost I got another mile going over hills. And I love how it comes on instanly. Oh and the belt clip is very sturdy. I can't even force it off unlike the audiovox. Also not as alkward to have it on.

I usually am quite a critic and probably never gave a 5 star review but Uniden deserves it they definitely exceeded my expectations.

p.s. I never tried the motoral but after I looked at the reveiws I didn't want one. I Hope this helps you decide!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great two-way radios!
These radios are exactly what my son and I need so I can keep track of him when he's off playing. I wasted money on the last ones I bought, but these, with the ability to recharge the batteries, are an excellent deal. They have so many channels, there's no interference or "traffic jam" on our channel. The sound is loud and clear; the range is excellent. I'm proud of my shopping selection with these two-way radios and would recommend them to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for!
After many purchases and returns of different brands of GMRS radios (that fell far short of what they claimed), I have fallen in love with these Uniden 8-mile radios. Why? Many reasons come to mind. Sturdy and well made, these radios have a LARGE display that is wonderfully backlight by an orange glow, unlike many others that have a small display that I have to squint to see. The buttons are nice, large and easy to press. The menus are a cinch to use and do NOT require a lot of button presses. A Key lock feature is also included so you don't change settings by accident. Rechargeable NiMH batteries are included with the charger and result in LONG battery life. The radios also have a weather radio built in that can monitor for watches/warnings and alert you with alarms even if you are using the radios as a two-ways. But most importantly is the range, and these DO NOT fail. Through thick trees and a hilly environment, my Unidens manage to reach about 1.3 miles. Who knows how far I could get in an open area! These radios are a MUST for anyone looking for a great two-way radio! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Affordable, Sleek, & Missing Nothing!
I researched phones for months before coming across this one. You name it, this phone has it! From walkie-talkies to a transferable phonebook, I promise you won't be diasspointed. I found that the features are easy to use and the size similar to a cell phone instead of being big and clunky! My base unit is in our basement and extra handsets upstairs and the sounds is just crystal. Here are some features I love!

-Battery Low indicator ON SCREEN, no more guessing how much longer you have!

-Transferable Phonebook between handsets
-Use as Walkie-Talkies away from home on a roadtrip or as Room Monitor for your kids while you're outside!
-Paging device between phones. I love this because if my husband is downstairs and I am upstairs, he doesn't have to come get me and tell me I have a phone call. He just transfers it to the other handset and I pick up!
-DO NOT DISTURB! This one is a beauty! Mutes ALL ringers for that peaceful dinner you always wanted.
-Privacy Call- allows you to block other phones from hearing your converstaion (wish I had this at my parent's house when I was a teenager!)

Those are just a FEW!!! This phone is just awesome, I'd recommend it to anyone!

***The only suggestion I have is if you do get this, do not setup your area code on the handsets. By doing so, caller id comes up WITHOUT it and makes it a little more difficult to save the numbers to the phonebook.***

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent communications system
Overall, a very nice system that we've been using about 2 months. This is not only an excellent remote phone system, but has the following features we love:

- signal and talk directly between handsets and/or base
- room monitor from either handset to the other or to the base
- either handset or the base function as a speakerphone
- call waiting caller id that works
- can use both handsets simultaneously
- distinctive ring based on caller id

The range for us, from the main floor, goes about 300 feet outside (flat terrain) before breaking up. It works best with a direct line of sight above ground. (not over a hill etc)

The battery life for us is approx. several (4-5) days with moderate usage (1-2 hours per day).

It also works great with the uniden headset available at amazon:
Uniden HS910 Headset for Cordless Phones
It works OK on the shoulder (with the beltclip), but is a little small.

Note that this model does NOT have a built-in answering machine. I consider this a plus, since we have voicemail from the phone company. Also while the base has a speakerphone, it is not really meant for much use, and does not have a built-in LCD screen etc. We use the base for emergencies only (or to locate the remotes).

I agree with the previous reviews that a few features are hard to get to, such as mute or privacy (although I am glad privacy is off by default so someone else can join a conversation from the other phone). Speed dialing is easy to use, though - just press and hold one of the digits to pull up the speed dial number.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product / BUY IT !!!
This phone system has more features than I'll probably use. The reception is crystal clear and static-free. I especially like the ability to choose different ring tones much like a cell phone. It comes with belt clips which are great if you're walking about the house or want to set it up for hands-free capability. It comes with 2 phones which is a great buy ! It's also expandable to carry more phones. Excellent buy !!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Cordless Phone I Have Ever Used!
I can't tell you how many old cordless phone systems I have in drawers and in the garage (IBM, AT&T, quite a few V-Techs) that I lost interest in. The sound quality in any of them wasn't that good ("It sounds like you're in a tunnel") and they didn't last very long.
I like the convenience of cordless so decided to try again. After reading a lot of reviews (particularly on Amazon.com), I decided on this one. Am I ever glad!!!! The voice quality - both incoming and outgoing - is as good as any corded phone I've ever used. Out of habit, I still ask people if they can hear me ok and nobody can tell I'm using a cordless phone!
I work from home and am at my computer all day. I use my phone with a Uniden headset and the voice quality still sounds like a corded phone. This phone is feature-rich and the lit keypad is very handy. A feature I especially like is the "Anykey Answer". When my phone rings, I don't even have to look at it, I just press any key and I'm connected to the call.
I wish I had known that this phone had a version with a digital answering machine built in; I would have gotten it instead. But, I'm still extremely happy with this one. In fact, every time I use it I'm still amazed at how lucky I am to have finally found the perfect cordless.
I recommend this phone with no hesitation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great phone!
This purchase was a pleasant suprise. Things I found unique were the ability to copy phonebooks from one phone to another, ability to name handset so I could intercom directly to another handset by name (I've got one in each of the kids bedrooms upstairs and no longer have to yell) and distinctive ring based on incoming caller ID.

Great buy. I even bought extra handsets so we have a total of 4 now. The answering machine is simply and can be retrieved from any handset as well as remotely. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY UNIDEN
I received this phone as a gift. It seemed like the perfect idea, because I have a toddler who likes to throw things in the pool.

However........once this phone has been "submersed" even for a few seconds it no longer works until the handset dries out. What is the point?????

Not to mention, after having it around the pool for a few days, the handset stopped holding a charge. I called Uniden, and they confirmed it was still under warranty. They gave me an address to send the unit to for repairs....AT MY COST!!!!! What a rip off!!!!

Save the hassle, and don't buy this item!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars alll i get is static
this phone sucks if i leave three feet from the base all i hear is static i reaaly wish i would not have ripped the box up

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Phone
We started using this phone around Christmas time. So far, no problems, though we use mostly outdoors and around the hot tub (I haven't tried to see just how waterproof it is). I don't have any complaints. Sound is loud both on earpiece and on the other end. The distance is fine--we live in a large 3 story house and we haven't had any problems with reception within it or outside it. Nice display with caller id. Buttons work fine. I wish all phones could be made this rugged.

2-0 out of 5 stars Tough phone, with poor sound quality and poor range.
Just got one of these in the hope that it will survive my three kids, they go through phones pretty quick. This seems to be a very rugged phone, so should last a while. Unfortunately the sound quality is poor and the range is just barely able to cover our small house. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

If you're missing calls because you can't hear the phone ring, and if you don't find much comfort in those annoying (and tiny) blinking lights that aren't much help from across the room, consider the Uniden EZI-996. The practical design helps solve a number of problems for users with minor sight or hearing challenges.

Two large red lights on the base indicate when the phone is ringing and when you have a voicemail message--and they're large enough to see more clearly from a distance. A belt clip is included, so you can keep the handset with you as you walk around the house. You can also keep your hearing aid connected and wear the handset comfortably at your waist. Separate controls adjust the ringer and the handset volume, and a handset indicator sound helps you locate the unit if you've lost it in the couch cushions. The keypad is backlit and has large buttons, making it easier to see when dialing.

The EZI-996 operates with a reliable 900 MHz transmission and tried-and-true analog technology. With subscription to service through your local phone company, the 30-station caller ID tracks your recent calls and returns them at the touch of a button. A separate 10-station memory stores your most frequently dialed numbers, with a one-touch dial for an emergency contact. Uniden includes a one-year warranty covering parts and service.

5-0 out of 5 stars Uniden GMR855-2CK GMRS
I tested it in the real world. In around the houses and tree and wires it will work about 1 to 1.5 miles. Thats was it at best. In the open with a view of each radio, about 5 miles was it. That was over open water. Maybe if you were on top of a mountain and the other was on top of another mountain at 8 miles away with the power boost-maybe it will go the 8 miles, but i doubt it. But besides that i have used many brands of these radios, and this one seems to be better, for the price. I say if you really need to communicate at a larger distance, use your cell phone-- if you have a signal-HA! Can you hear me now- get it??

Well i have been using these now for a few days. I'm very pleased with them. For the price at walmart they work just fine. A license to run them- ya like who bothers. I see people using them all over without that license. Government is a little nuts asking for a license for a walky-talky.

4-0 out of 5 stars Uniden GMR855... best deal for the range.
I purchased the UNIDEN GMR855 about a month ago and for the price they are just great. The range is about 1 3/4 mile in an environment of trees and houses. Beyond that, all I get is nothing, I don't really know if the claim of 8 miles is true as the conditions in an open area may have a lot to do with it. But it beats the old walkie-talkies of the 60s and 70s where you could only reach to you neighbors house across the street and all you would get is a static voice threw the speaker and you still have to make out what the hell they said! The Rechargeable NiMH base is great.... no battery replacement. I do wish they had a VOC microphone feature as like the UNIDEN GMR885. The large menu makes it easy to see. The buttons are nice, large and easy to press. The case is rugged. These radios are great for anyone looking for an affordable communication device with in there average range of a complex environment. I would like to see in the future a true 8 mile 2 way personal radios able to receive threw all conditions! There ya go UNIDEN... a project for ya! ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Uniden's GMR635-2 includes a pair of lightweight, palm-sized General Mobile Radio Service radios. Use them to maintain contact with family and friends at sporting events or while hiking, skiing, outdoors, or use them as critical tools in a neighborhood watch. Each radio works on 22 channels: 15 GMRS and 7 FRS.

Channel scan lets you easily scan all 22 channels. When an active channel is detected, the radio will pause on that channel until the channel is clear. Then, after a 2 second delay, the radio will continue scanning. To transmit on a given channel, press the PTT button while the scan is paused on your desired channel.

Power the radios using 1 rechargeable NiMH battery pack (Uniden BP38, not included) or 4 AAA alkaline batteries each (not included). If you use rechargeable battery packs, the 2 radios can be charged simultaneously using an optional charging cradle (Uniden RC8348).

Each radio has a battery-level meter on its display to indicate the status of the batteries. When using alkalines, you'll get about 30 hours of use per radio, while the rechargeable battery packs offer enough juice for about 18 hours of operation.

Other features include a backlit LCD, keypad lock, channel monitor, a choice of 5 different call tones, and a roger beep.

What's in the Box
Two GMR635 radios, 2 belt clips, and a user's manual.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Uniden Unit
So far ive had no problems, Set up was easy, hearing is very clear, no static at all, i love the 2nd handset,Everything was easy to setup on it,and the price was great, alot of other reviews ive read they say nothing but problems, mine is great.
Thank You!

2-0 out of 5 stars It's ok....but I'm replacing it
I got this phone thinking it would be great - the extra handset is a nice feature and I like that part. I have noticed that the battery life is pretty short and once when I was talking the battery died and then my phone never "hung up" - so for 15 minutes I was without a phone and could not pick up any phone in the house to use it. This has happened two times and is soooo frustrating, especially since the other phones in the house that are corded could not be used.

You can't use the 2 phones at once so that is a bit of an inconvenience as well. The reception is ok but it has it's moments. I have had the phone for about 6 months so it's broken in and the honeymoon's over. I am going to replace it, it was a nice try to get a cheaper phone but it's been more trouble than it's worth.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best portables I've bought
I've gone through a lot of portable phones, and especially for the price, this is by far the best. The Caller ID doesn't seem to function, but neither did the previous phone on our system. Great sound, nice having two handhelds.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great, great price
I've had this phone system for a month now & I love it. I bought the 900MHz on purpose because the 2.4GHz interferes with wireless 54g routers & I have one. To date, i'm super impressed with this phone. The sound quality is clear & the extension unit works great in my bedroom (which doesn't have a phone line). The answering system is digital so you get a little distortion (nothing like good old tape) but I can live with that. Also, the battery lasts a long, long time unlike my Vtech which dies out in 2 hours. Overall, I highly recommend this product.

2-0 out of 5 stars On a second thought ...
I wrote the first review on this item in March. Since then, I feel like I need to add another comment about its performance and durability:
About a month ago, in the case of BOTH handsets and their respective bases, I started experiencing problems with what I thought was battery charge-time. It turned out that batteries were fine but the phone wouldn't just fall into place correctly, hence wouldn't get charged at all. I'm still using the handsets but I've now learnt that I will have to play with their placement for a few seconds and until the red "charging" light is lit.

The most attractive feature of this phone was its considerably low price (for two handsets), but if I was to do it all over, I think I would spend a little more and get a phone where I will KNOW will stay charged and available if I need it.

I don't recommend this phone if it's the ONLY ONE you're using in your household.

Original March review:
I've only owned this phone for a month ... I don't know how they hold up as far as breaking down is concerned, but assuming it holds up, it's definitely a great product for the money:
PROS:
> The second handset need only to be plugged in for charging (i.e. no phone jack is needed). This makes the product ideal for use in rooms or areas where you don't have a phone Jack or it's hard to reach.
> To change the ringer volume or turn it off (a feature I was definitely interested in), you don't have to go through extensive menues and it's all done with click of a button for either handsets and the base (arrow up/down), all independant of each other.
> Caller ID on both handsets (which can be placed on the base with the caller ID screen facing up).
> Remote access
> Good quality voice and reception

CONS:
> No loud-speakers (on the base or handsets).
> The secondary handset doesn't allow
> Only one person at a time can use the phone. In other words, both handsets won't work simultaneously
> Unplugging it from the wall or power-outage will reset the time and date, and you'll have to go back and set it again (some phones have internal battery for short-time memory)

OVER ALL:
Good value for the money ... Read more
