Great Router
The ENR1504 Router has been a very good product to use and is easy to set up. I originally had a SMC 7004ABR router. I like how the new router allows me to open up ports (port mapping) so that I can get different applications to work through the router. The 7004ABR supposedly allowed ports to be opened, but the applications sometimes did not work with the change.

A major feature of the ENR1504 is the included Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) feature of the Uniden router. The router uses SPI to examine each packet to make sure that the packet is legitimate. SPI is a definite improvement over my previous 7004ABR router.

I also like the addition of Universal Plug and Play (UPnP). UPnP is "a networking architecture that provides compatibility among computers, networking equipment, software and peripherals."-ENR1504 Owner's Manual

UPnP helps applications steer around the Network Address Translation (NAT). NAT is used to allow multiple computers to access the Internet from one internet protocol (IP) address. NAT can sometimes cause problems because applications are usually not built to go through a NAT device easily.

Tech Support is friendly and helpful. About early March, I had a problem when the router stopped working. I tried working with the Uniden Tech Support to get the problem fixed. After a lot of help by Tech Support staff in trying to get the router fixed, I had to RMA the unit back to Uniden. About two weeks later, I received the fixed ENR1504. The Uniden router has worked ever since.

My advice is to always get reviews on any networking or computer product from places such as Practically Networked, Epinions, or just typing the product's name and adding the word 'review' into a search engine. The same advice goes for any product you are buying from looking up the VIN number on a car to see the car's history to buying a good DVD player.

I think it is also a good idea to be on the lookout for good deals on products you buy, such as going to Deal News or another comparison-shopping site.

ENR 1504 is great for a hub
Do not have a cable modem or DSL but bought Uniden's ENR1504 because wanted to experiment with it on home network. Upgraded firmware, downloaded from Uniden website, without any problems. Currently using it as a four port 10/100 Mbps hub and it works great.

Works well unless you need one specific feature
Appears to be feature-rich at first glance, but if you are like me, and need to SPOOF YOUR MAC ADDRESS with your ISP because they have your computer's MAC address in their database DO NOT BUY THIS ROUTER. The MAC Spoofing feature does not work, and it causes the unit to be unable to obtain an IP Address from your ISP, and thus you cannot get online.

UNIDEN technical support is open 24/7, but the person who took my call could care less to be working there. I was not walked through any kind of extensive testing or troubleshooting procedure. The only thing suggested was to press the reset button. After that failed, it was suggested I RMA the unit.

I will be taking the tech's advice, however, I will not be getting a new unit. I will be getting my money back ... Read more

Excellent Value
This was one of the cheaper phones pricewise that I found with Caller ID and answering machine. I first bought a SW Bell phone and immediately returned it because of its poor quality. I already had a Uniden cordless as my bedroom phone and have been pleased with its quality in the 4 years I've owned it so I was pleasantly surprised to find a Uniden with the features I was looking for (caller ID & answering machine) at a price that was affordable. The first time I used I noticed how much better the quality was compared to the ...SW Bell and since owning for a month now I have no complaints and will definitely recommend Unidens to anyone looking for a cordless phone.

You can count on it
I have had this unit for over a yr and cannot say anything bad about it.
I have never lost a call. I have walked all over the house and outside and the call never faded. I have moved fr orig area and still in the hills can go outside. Sticking with the 900. I do need a speakphone now, so this baby will go in bedroom and plan on buying a uniden phone with speaker. good buy and dependable.

Great product!
I was a little hesitant about buying this because of all the bad reviews I read, well I am very glad that I went with my instinct. It is the best phone by far that I have purchased. The battery life is awesome! And it is so user friendly! I highly recommend this phone!

save your money...
i never write these reviews but felt compelled after buying this piece of garbage. it worked ok for the first few month but then i gradually started hearing more and more crackling and interference. the straw that broke the camel's back was when my fiancee called and i couldn't hear her. when i tried to change the channel it bascially just died. i promptly spiked the phone on the floor into a million pieces. the battery never seemed to really hook up right to the unit, the caller id came up when it wanted to, and the reception was uneven.

save you money!!! buy something else.

Excellent unit
First of all, sorry for my english.

I agree with most of what have already been said here, I've tested the unit and seem to have a very good long range coverage, for me I could say that easily triples standard FRS coverage. One feature that has not been described here is an useful monitor button that when you hold it for a few seconds it cancels the squelch and keep it that way (doesn't have to keep pushing the monitor)and that gives you add'tnl coverage. At long distances signal could be poor to break the squelch but if you open the line you could clearly hear the other party. When using any radio in adverse circunstances try to get into high and open places, if you get onto a building or a mountain you would be impressed the coverage of the unit. I use this mainly for vacations at Isla de Margarita and from my apartment I cover all Porlamar city and it's surroundings and even talk miles away with a small mountain in the middle.

The vibrate option is very nice, when you'r fooling around malls nobody notes that someone's calling you cause when activated in cancels the ringer sound. Unit looks very sturdy.

The cons: Lettering on the radio tend to erase by the use and sweat.

Don't doubt getting this unit.

Great radio
This radio is ideal for the money. I tested these radio's in the city and got almost 4 miles in range. I had one outside and my friend had the other one in his truck driving away from me. We were able to keep constant communication the whole time. He was driving through busines and residential areas. These will be great from car to car and out in the mountains.

Uniden GMRS480 is a 2 watt unit
I bought 2 of these radios a few days ago. I am not sure how the idea got around that this is a 1/2 watt unit, because it is a 2 watt unit, and it DOES require an FCC license. The manual and the FCC registration says it is a 2 watt unit. I was very skeptical of this radio, because it seemed like I was getting alot of radio for less money, but I am glad I bought it now. We are getting around 1.5 mile range in the neighborhood, and about 2.5 miles out in the country were there are less obstructions. My father has 2 motorolas (5100 model). We tested these units against the Unidens head to head. The Uniden GMRS480 sounded much better than the Motorola 5100s every time. The secret is to not hold you mouth too close to the radio when you speak. No need to speak loud either. The Uniden's were not "tiny micy" sounding at all. I would have given this unit a rating of "5", but I must tell you that the thermometer is not very useful. I believe that it cannot get a correct temperature reading when you are holding the radio. It can be around 40 degrees outside, and if you are holding the radio, it will read in the upper 70's. I guess if you sit the radio down and don't touch it, it may get a "true" temperature reading. The SCAN function works, but is kinda weird in my opinion. You have to hold down either of the up/down channels for several seconds to get it to scan. Therefore, you actually change channels 1 thru 15 many times, and then the unit goes in to scan mode. Also, you can't use the radio while it is on the charger, which really disappoints me. But the batteries (NiMH), lasted us on the farm on one charge, Sat, Sun, & Monday, with the unit turned on all during the daylight hours. By Monday evening they still had 2 out of 4 bars left on the battery meter. The weather band is good, it picked up the NOAA channel about 50 miles away. Seems pretty weather resistant, but I try not to get anything wet that is electronic. Good thing that the radio is simple to figure out and use, because I could have written a better manual. You can download the manual from the Uniden web site before you buy it. It is only a few pages. The folks at Uniden have been very helpful in answering my questions. They have responded to every email I have sent them. I recommend the Uniden GMRS480, but since it is GMRS and 2 watt, it does require an FCC license.

Nice unit for the money
First off yes you do need an FCC license for this unit. And don't let the zebra guy below this steer you away from this unit. If you'll notice, every review he's written is on FRS/GRMS hybrids and he gives 1 star to every single one of them (in this case he voted twice thus dilluting the ranking for this unit.) His heart's in the right place in trying to keep users law-abiding, but his overzelousness is too much in my opinion when he probably doesn't even own one yet gives it 1 star while launching into a speech.

I got a pair of these for my Dad to use in his motorhome and on camping trips since he wanted something besides just his CB and with greater range than regular FRS units. On the interstate we've been able to get up to 2.5 miles apart (tested by calling out mile marker signs to each other) in relatively flat terrain with a clear signal. Not too bad in my opinion since nobody should realistically expect 5 miles (kind of like how FRS radios rated for 2 miles rarely reach a mile in ideal conditions.) It's well made yet cheaper than some of the competitors with similar specs that I looked at, particularly Motorola models.

How do you spell disappointed? UNIDENGMRS480
I'm just an average consumer looking for a good deal with some quality. I didn't expect 5 miles, but I hardly got 1.5. I live in the country in Wisconsin with few hills and no buildings. I liked the look of the unit. I thought, hey this will withstand the abuse and outdoors and no doubt after using it- it will. However, for anyone that goes through the process of getting an FCC license as required, this unit doesn't perform as a GMRS unit should. Granted, you get the use of licensed frequencies, and it will tell you the temperature, but at .5 watts, its range leaves a lot to be desired... I'm just an average consumer with little knowledge of the radio world. But from one consumer to another, if you're looking for something with the power to perform, this unit is not for you. If you're looking for a durable radio for about 1 to 1.5 miles then this is a good buy. Fantastic Phone for the home
Just purchased this phone from Costco for 99.99, less than anywhere else available.The features of this phone are great.Being able to retrieve messages from any of the 4 handsets is a major plus.The intercom feature from handset to handset also ranks high on the feature list.I have not had the opportunity to try the enhanced Caller ID feature yet where you can send people to voice mail, dump the call, or have it announce that you will not take this call... but it does sound cool.

Ergonomically the phone is easy to hold against the ear with your shoulder due to the size.It's not thin where it will make you crank your head way over, and it's not too thick either.

I was worried about using it so close to my wireless network setup in the office.But have not had a single problem even though they reside in the same 2.4 GHZ band.

Everything about this phone screams comfort to use.But there are some drawbacks that I have found.

First, the buttons need to be pressed down fully to be used.While this is not like my last phone, you may find it not so easy for the elderly.

The End button is placed in a weird place, that takes some time to get used to.They have such a large Talk button, that I feel it should also have been used to end a call, but then again, where would you put the flash button?(The talk button does both features).

It will take some time to get used to all the features that are available... since they are all accessed through the menu/clear and select buttons even while on a call... which is how you dump calls that are coming through to voice mail.. a cool feature.

Overall I would rate it a high 4, not a 5 since nothing is perfect.But for the price of getting all these phones in the house with only having to plug in one for the jack, this is a great buy.The feature list is bigger than what they advertise, so be prepaired, but whats great is that you won't get lost in setting this up... or using them, Menu items are done very well.

Don't make my mistake
I decided I wanted a headset so that I could talk on the phone while doing work or cooking around my house. I looked at both this Uniden headset and the AT&T one that is also sold on Amazon. Even though I read the reviews on here that said this headset can easily break I went ahead and bought one for cheap off the Amazon.com Outlet. I used it for a few months and was pretty happy with it. It was comfortable on my head, easy to adjust, sounded good, and I never got any complaints from people I was talking to.

Then it broke.

So now I'm about to shell out some more money for the AT&T headset and I figured I'd share my new found wisdom with everyone else.

What a piece of junk!
I have already gone through two of these (I didn't pay for the replacement, obviously) and already need a third. They break almost instantly. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! I would give it zero stars if I could.

worked for 30 days - microphone broke
I had one that worked for a year that came with the original phone. Then, I just ordered this one from Amazon and it worked for 30 days. Like other reviews you see here, people started not being able to hear me, but I could hear them. So the microphone broke. But, I called Uniden tech support and they recommended I replace the battery on the phone for $37. So, I just ordered a new phone and tested the headset -- sure enough it wasn't the phone -- it was the headset. A costly mistake. I would not buy this headset again. Also, Amazon has a 30 day return policy, so if it breaks, make sure you return it within that 30 days or you are stuck with it.

Easily Breakable
I've had this headset purchased with a Uniden phone. It was fine until the cheap plastic headstrap broke. I fixed it with electrical tape but now the microphone stopped working. I can hear others but they can't hear me. There's got to be a better headset for the same or less than this cheap toy.

Great sound quality - poor durability
This headset is my second. The first was from VTech - it cost more (back when I got it) and buzzed and was overall very useless. This one was great - clear, no buzz, no echo. great phone system for the house
