Amazon.com Product Description

The 32-inch Philips 32PT830H flat-screen TV offers true high-definition 1080i picture with widescreen (16:9) and full-screen (4:3) display modes. It also features a 3D Y/C digital comb filter, scan velocity modulation, HD component and RGBHV inputs, and side A/V and S-video jacks for a clean look.

The 32PT830H's flat tube provides wide viewing angle while minimizing reflections for the best picture possible. The special alloy invar shadow mask helps maintain tighter focus and eliminate "color blooming" as compared to standard tubes. The 3D Y/C digital comb filter separates chrominance (color) from luminance (brightness) information for independent processing to improve picture resolution and minimize distortion, while scan velocity modulation varies the electron beam speed for a more finely rendered picture with improved sharpness. The AutoPicture function instantly optimizes brightness, contrast, color, tint, and sharpness settings with picture presets for movies, sports, video games, and weak signal reception. Philips' Eye Fidelity line-doubling feature gives you the choice between progressive scan (480p) or a line-doubled (1080i) picture when viewing non-HD broadcasts.

This set has a built-in 181-channel tuner and two built-in speakers (10 watts apiece) that provide virtual surround sound. It's compatible with 1080i and 480p high-definition signals with an optional HDTV tuner. With the AutoSound feature, audio volume levels are automatically adjusted and optimized with the choice of three presets: movies, voice, music, plus an adjustable personal setting.

The included universal remote controls all TV features plus virtually all brands of VCR, DVD, cable TV converters and digital broadcast satellite receivers. The 32PT830H has HD component and RGBHV inputs for easy connection to HD set-top decoders and progressive scan DVD players. It also offers 3 composite A/V inputs (1 side), 1 A/V output, 2 S-Video inputs (1 side), 2 component inputs, and a headphone jack on the side.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy This TV!!
I spent a significant amount of time researching TVs and found this unit attractive on paper but was hesitant to buy on-line without actually seeing it "live" , so to speak. Having had great success in the past with other Philips product I thought I would take a chance and am glad that I did. The price for this is great and it delivers all the quality you would expect. I would recommend this unit to anyone and everyone...and I haven't even been able to take advantage of the high-def as I have to wait until my local cable company finishes wiring my neighborhood for digital cable.... Great TV! ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

This 55-inch analog projection television combines a terrific picture and sleek, upscale design with a stylish titanium finish. It comes equipped with Philips's own ImageMax technology. Combining multiple stretch technologies--CTI, tint correction, and more--ImageMax continually adjusts saturation and correction levels for sharper colors and noise-free images. The set's high-performance lens system achieves consistent edge-to-edge brightness and contrast with a dramatically reduced focal length, resulting in crisp, well-defined large-screen images and slim cabinet design.

The set's sophisticated, two-line digital comb filter improves the quality of incoming composite or RF video signals by better separating the signal into its basic qualities: chrominance and luminance. Multipoint digital convergence performs automatically to ensure optimal color reproduction and crisply defined edges. In audio, the 55P8341 offers 10 watts per channel and Incredible Surround, an exciting method of widening the stereo spatial image for full-impact home entertainment. A headphone jack affords private listening.

Hookups include rear-panel component-video and side S-video and composite-video connections. (Both rear and side inputs also offer analog stereo RCA jacks.) Other features include dual-tuner picture-in-picture, which lets you monitor one video source--such as a TV channel, the Internet, a videotape, or a video game--while watching another. 4-0 out of 5 stars Phillips big screen tv
I was quite pleased and proud of my purchase. There was a little confusion about the delivery,at first even after paying the delivery fee to have it delivered properly and because I live on a hill, on the first attempt to my dissapointment the men actually took the tv back, after they asked me if I had anyone to take it up the hill and into the house, one call to Amazon took care of that. For the most part I get a beautiful picture. The surround sound is great, all instructions and help were clear and precise enclosed. The set was setup in the room of my choice and I was given a chance to refuse it or return it. Sometimes I get a sort of fade out , fade in which last about 2 seconds and as yet I have not identified the reason. Over all I really like the set.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best of Philips
I bought this projection TV when it first arrived on the shelves and have absolutly loved it ever since. I would strongly recomend it to anyone who enjoys watching movies. If you want to get the full effect on what this TV has to offer than I would strongly suggest that you buy a surrond sound system to go with it. When having a combo like this it really adds to the effect that you are at movie theater.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great price, great picture!
I've had my philips big screen tv for about 2 mounths now, and I love it. I shopped around first to check prices and also picture quality and you can't beat the picture quality you get with this tv. If you don't want to spend alot of money and you want the quility of the higher priced tv's than this is the one for you. I promise you won't be disappointed. I have to say it was worth every penny. Thanks philips for making a great tv.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Big Screen TV

The 30PW9815's 30-inch Real Flat, high-definition widescreen picture tube affords today's best home cinema viewing when used with a progressive-scan DVD player or an outboard digital set-top box for DTV reception. Picture enhancements include a sophisticated 3D Y/C digital comb filter, which improves the quality of incoming interlaced video signals by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped t-shirt).

Eye Fidelity provides the choice between different line doubling and scanning techniques--progressive or interlaced--so you can reduce motion artifacts like jagged edges and stair stepping, viewing material in progressive scan (480p) or a line-doubled (1050i) picture.

Digital Natural Motion (480p/1080i) brings interlaced sources like VCRs and non-progressive-scanning DVD players into the digital realm, and Digital CrystalClear with Dynamic Contrast, SVM, Comb filter, 9-bit processing, luminance enhancements, and color enhancements (LTP2) together ensure a crisp, natural picture from any type or quality of source. Further, a feature called Active Control continuously analyzes incoming signals and optimizes picture color, sharpness, contrast, and digital noise reduction 60 times per second.

Double-window PIP (picture-in-picture) delivers the ability to split the television picture in half and display two independent television shows at the same time without having to use an additional source for tuning. The set even offers Dolby Pro Logic surround decoding along with four-channel sound and 15 watts per channel (left, center, right, subwoofer) with deep bass for a rich, theatrical presentation. Virtual Dolby Surround simulates surround sound from any two speakers. An integrated center speaker sits in the best possible position for dialog reproduction.

Two sets of high-definition component-video inputs (1080i/480p) accommodate a set-top box/HD satellite receiver and a progressive-scan DVD player, while side and rear composite- and S-video inputs accommodate other hardware. Rear-panel audio/video outputs make it a cinch to hook the set up with your home theater surround receiver for a truly immersive AV experience. A 0.125-inch headphone jack lets you listen in private. The set includes an NTSC tuner for standard TV reception and comes with a universal remote control.

The 30PW9819's 30-inch RealFlat, high-definition widescreen (16:9 aspect ratio) picture tube affords today's best home cinema viewing when used with a progressive-scan DVD player or a DTV set-top box for HDTV reception. The Matchline Series set offers compatibility with standard-definition (SD) 480i images, progressive-scan 480p signals, and full HD 1080i as well. Its broad screen matches the dimension of most movies and HDTV broadcasts, while the RealFlat CRT screen eliminates geometric distortion and minimizes undesirable reflections.

The set gives you a choice between 2 different line-scanning techniques: progressive scan or PixelPlus. Progressive scan doubles the number of picture lines, eliminating line flicker and providing a jitter-free picture. PixelPlus digital processing improves the appearance of onscreen motion. The number of picture lines increases along with the number of pixels per line, giving normal broadcast signals, DVD images, or digital TV signals unparalleled sharpness and depth.

Digital Natural Motion (480p/1080i) brings interlaced sources like VCRs and non-progressive-scanning DVD players into the digital realm, while a feature called Active Control continuously analyzes incoming signals and optimizes picture color, sharpness, contrast, and digital noise reduction 60 times per second. Double-window, 2-tuner PIP (picture-in-picture) lets you split a TV picture in half to display 2 independent channels at the same time without having to use an additional source for tuning.

The set even offers Dolby Pro Logic surround decoding along with 4-channel sound and 15 watts per channel--left, center, right, and a built-in subwoofer--for a rich, theatrical presentation (DPL's monaural surround information gets folded into the left/center/right speakers). A feature called 3D Surround simulates surround sound from any 2 speakers.

A direct-digital DVI (Digital Visual Interface) and 2 sets of high-definition component-video inputs (1080i/480p) accommodate a set-top box/HD satellite receiver and a progressive-scan DVD player, while an SD component-video input and side and rear composite- and S-video inputs permit hookup with other equipment. Rear-panel audio/video outputs make it a cinch to hook the set up with your home theater surround receiver for a truly enveloping AV experience. A convenient side-panel input simplifies spontaneous hookups, and an RJ-45 data port lets you hook the TV up directly to your computer for simplified data transfer from its digital media recorder.

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with an audio and/or video monitor, such as a digital television (DTV). HDMI supports standard-definition (SD), enhanced definition (ED), or high-definition (HD) video, plus multi-channel digital audio--all using a single cable. It transmits all ATSC HDTV standards and supports up to 8-channel digital audio, with bandwidth to spare to accommodate future enhancements and requirements.

I shopped till I dropped but this TV had the best depth perception of all of them. Also I could view it at different angles it didnt seem like the light was centered in the middle. Great TV!

5-0 out of 5 stars This TV is GREAT
This TV is fantastic. The picture is exceptionally good, even in smaller rooms. It doesn't give off the typical glare during the day and can be viewed clearly from even wide angles. The room we have it in is a medium sized family room. The picture is great anywhere in the room but if your room is big the picture is just awesome. I am so pleased we purchased this TV. ... Amazon.com Product Description

Go for gold in picture size and picture quality, too, with Philips' 60-inch, high-tech-fortified 60PW9383 widescreen projection television. This high-definition set is capable of producing crisp, nuanced HDTV signals in all their glory: full 1080i resolution via a digital set-top box (not included). Progressive-scan DVD players are also prime source components for this set; display format up-conversion makes sure you're seeing the best image possible, regardless of the source. The 60PW9383 was designed and constructed with the latest projection technology for rich, seamless presentations--and it goes a long way toward handling your home-theater audio requirements, too.

Philips' 35-point convergence brings with it the accuracy of digital technology for flawless convergence of red, green, and blue electron guns and a superb picture with no colored haloes. Philips HD Optics produces detailed HD resolution through cutting-edge processing and display technology, including a wideband video amplifier, micro phosphor CRTs, hybrid projection lenses, a first-surface mirror (for more direct light transmission), and the set's fine-pitched lenticular screen. A feature called Auto IntelliSense Focus automatically adjusts picture convergence at the push of a button.

If a video image remains stationary, it can eventually burn a permanent after-image into the screen. Automatic Phosphor Aging Compensation (APAC) periodically shifts your television picture in increments that are tiny but still large enough to blur image retention. Active Control performs continuous picture analysis and maintains control of Automatic Digital Noise Reduction and auto sharpness. A three-line digital comb filter gives you Improved chroma/luminance separation over standard two-line glass comb filters for a difference you can really see.

Eye Fidelity gives you a choice between two different scanning techniques: progressive and interlaced scanning. Progressive scanning doubles the number of visible picture lines per field by displaying all picture frame lines at once, eliminating line flicker. Interlaced mode reduces annoying motion artifacts and helps smooth jagged lines sometimes seen on images of curved and angled surfaces.

The set's double-window, dual-tuner picture-in-picture feature splits the screen into two independent halves, letting you do everything from watching two shows simultaneously to watching one while surfing the other, or scanning channels while keeping an eye on video input one, two, or three.

The set uses two-way stereo speakers and also features an auto volume limiter to minimize drastic level changes between, say, a TV program and its commercials. A center-channel speaker input lets you use the set as a center--no bulky or costly center-channel required--and a rear-panel subwoofer output makes it easy to hook up a powered sub for deeper-than-deep bass effects or low-end musical authenticity.

A 15-watts-per-channel sound system offers both Virtual Dolby Surround and Incredible Surround, processing circuitry that produces the sensation of surround sound without the hassle of installing additional rear speakers.

Other connections include three each composite- and S-video inputs, two component-video inputs (one HD, one standard), and a DVI direct digital input for use with a compatible DTV set-top box or other DVI device. A set of audio/video outputs lets you integrate the TV with your stereo or surround receiver, and a set of side-mounted AV inputs simplifies hookup of a camcorder, gaming console, or VCR.

The 60PW9383's protective screen filter helps prevent accidental damage to the delicate front lenticular screen.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent HD TV
We bought this HD Tv in March and couldn't be happier with it. We've now added HD cable to the house! The sports programs we've watched have been amazing. The picture quality is excellent. The only problem is with the remote for where Philips put the "AV" switch - under this concealed area that's a pain to open at times. Other than that, we'd buy this tv again in an instant. We bought it at $1800 with no delivery and no sales tax. After more research, we could not find a better deal anywhere - internet or local stores.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worked two months, down four months and counting!!!
Worked OK for about two months then the picture folded up and completely vanished. Philips refered us to a local shop which came promptly, unfortunately a defective part would take about 4 weeks to get. After four weeks, it was expected in another two weeks. Then another week. Then another week. After the shop e-mailed Philips and got no response they gave up checking, I started calling Philips. That was a month ago. Each week Philips tells me the part will arrive next week (well, there was one time that the part was arriving that day, but then the next day it wasn't there, so it would be another week).

So Philips somehow keeps manufacturing and selling this model, but they don't have the part to fix my defective set--after almost four months. How do they do it?

For an item that costs thousands, manufacturers should provide better support than this. There won't be any Philips products in my future.

3-0 out of 5 stars .
I would love to give this tv a five. I am no expert but it is very nice. my father has a 61" sony and this one has a way better picture. my problem is that it arrived with a crack in the screen and i have written two emails to amazon and have not received a response. the tv "in general" is a good bargin. if my problem ever gets fixed I would defiently recommend it to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars A beautiful bargain.
I just received this set on 3/9 and couldn't be happier. Personally, I think Philips makes the best looking projection sets. As far as the picture, regular cable channels look any where from good to ok...but they looked that way on my 27" Sony, too. On the HD channels, the picture is simply wonderful. This set also has some really nice features, like DVI high definition terminal connection, subwoofer output, and the ability to use the tv's own speakers (which are good) as the center channel. It also has an auto convergence feature, as well the ability to adjust convergence manually. For $1,800.00 + free delivery and no tax, it's a great bargain. Instead of a smaller plasma, buy this set and use the money you saved to take the family to Disney! :) ... Read more

The 30PW8520's 30-inch RealFlat, high-definition picture widescreen tube affords today's best home cinema viewing when used with a progressive-scan DVD player or an outboard digital set-top box for DTV reception. Picture enhancements like line doubling with Digital Natural Motion (480p/1080i) bring interlaced sources like VCRs and non-progressive-scanning DVD players into the digital realm, and a sophisticated comb filter further improves the quality of incoming interlaced video signals. Eye Fidelity provides the choice between different line doubling and scanning techniques, progressive or interlaced, so you can reduce motion artifacts like jagged edges and stair stepping. The set even offers four-channel sound with a built-in subwoofer for a rich, theatrical presentation. Virtual Dolby Surround simulates surround sound from any two speakers.

In addition, dual-tuner, double-window picture-in-picture lets you monitor one video source--such as a TV channel, the Internet, a videotape, or video game--while watching another. A feature called Active Control continuously analyzes incoming signals and optimizes picture color, sharpness, contrast, and digital noise reduction 60 times per second. Four rear-panel audio-video connections and one set of side AV inputs accommodate composite-video, S-video, and component-video, with one set of high-definition component-video inputs. A 0.125-inch headphone jack lets you listen in private. The set includes an NTSC tuner for standard TV reception and comes with a backlit universal remote control and a 12-month warranty on parts and labor. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Enjoy compact quality and style with the Philips 20PT653R. The set uses a 20-inch Real Flat picture tube, which increases viable viewing angles while reducing reflected ambient light to create a brighter and crisper image. The 20PT653R' digital comb filter removes blurred edges between colors and reduces dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped t-shirt).

A hallmark of the set, its QuadraSurf remote control lets you personalize and customize your channel surfing and TV viewing by family member or program theme. QuadraSurf delivers favorite television shows at the press of a button. A component-video input grants optimum connection with a compatible DVD player, while standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodate all DVD players. You can choose between a set of rear AV inputs and a set of side AV inputs for extra convenience.

Other 20PT653R features include a 240-minute sleep timer, AutoPicture (which optimizes brightness, contrast, color, tint, and sharpness), AutoLock (which uses V-Chip technology for parental control), and AutoSound (which lets you select settings for voice, music, movies, or custom). 5-0 out of 5 stars Great TV, Great Value
this is the best TV for the price I am very happy with the quality of this TV

4-0 out of 5 stars Response
In response to "A Guest from Cinncinati, Ohio" - if you knew anything about sound and the way it should be modified, then you would also know that "base" is spelled B-A-S-S.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good everything... but sound
The tv looks great, good picture, easy controls, and set-up. The poor side is the sound. You don't have much control over base and treble.. besides if you want them extra high or low. But even with the base on low (or normal) and the treble on high, the sound is very muffled. So when you listen on a low volume setting... all you get is mumbles..

Going to get cable in a few days... maybe that will help. If not... back to the store..

3-0 out of 5 stars not on trouble shooter list
I own a philips 27 inch television, model 27ps55ss, one day a few weeks ago while surfing with the remote the channel froze on screen and there was no sound. Nothing I did to change the situation helped. I changed the batteries, but nothing, I couldn't turn off the tv using the remote. I even was forced to get up out of my chair and tried to turn off the tv manually. Still nothing worked, until I pulled the cord from the wall and started all over again. It worked fine for a few hours then the same problem happened again. I called philips 800 number and no one there ever heard of such a problem(lucky me). THANK GOD FOR COSTCO, NO QUESTIONS ASKED THEY REFUNDED MY MONEY AND I PURCHASED AGAIN THE SAME MODEL.(2 days later) so far so good. RAUL

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Buy !!!
I bought this TV brand new from a local store and have used it for about 2 weeks now and it is just great! I have not had any problems with using PlayStation 2 on the side AV input. In fact the sound is great too! The picture is crisp and clear and this TV has great looks as well as quality. I am very happy with this buy! ... Read more

A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. An Invar mask uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing in a brighter, clearer picture.

Amazon.com Product Description

Producing 55 inches of widescreen excitement from a housing less than 18 inches deep, the Philips 55PL9223 Cineos television makes use of Philips' patented Liquid Crystal On Silicon (LCOS) reflective technology, which frees the set to be both lighter and smaller than current projection or CRT sets. The 55PL9223 offers an HD-ready, flicker-free screen with perfect convergence, no visible pixel grid, and no risk of image burn-in.

With its native 1,280 x 720 pixel resolution and a multitude of analog and digital inputs, the TV accepts high-resolution pictures from DTV set-top boxes, PCs, DVD players, and other devices, including both 1080i HD signals and 1,280 x 1,024 PC feeds. All standard-definition interlaced video signals are treated to Philips' PixelPlus line doubling, which turns them into near-high-definition (HD) images. By doubling the number of lines and the number of pixels per line, PixelPlus enhances both regular TV broadcasts and DVD inputs for unparalleled sharpness and depth.

Active Control performs continuous picture analysis and maintains control of Automatic Digital Noise Reduction and auto sharpness. A 3-line digital comb filter gives you improved chroma/luminance separation over standard 2-line comb filters.

The set's double-window, dual-tuner picture-in-picture feature splits the screen into two independent halves, letting you do everything from watching 2 shows simultaneously to watching one while surfing the other, or scanning channels while keeping an eye on video input 1, 2, or 3.

The set uses 2-way stereo speakers with a 2-inch and a 5-inch driver in each, and also features an auto volume limiter to minimize drastic level changes between, say, a TV program and its commercials. A center-channel speaker input lets you use the set as a center--no bulky or costly center-channel required--and a rear-panel subwoofer output makes it easy to hook up a powered sub for deeper-than-deep bass effects or low-end musical authenticity.

A 20-watts-per-channel sound system offers both Virtual Dolby Surround and Incredible Surround, processing circuitry that produces the sensation of surround sound without the hassle of installing additional rear speakers.

Other connections include 3 each composite- and S-video inputs, 3 component-video inputs (2 HD, 1 standard), a 15-pin D-Sub PC connection, and a DVI direct digital input for use with a compatible DTV set-top box or other DVI device. A set of audio/video outputs lets you integrate the set with your stereo or surround receiver, and a set of side-mounted AV inputs with a headphone output simplifies hookup of a camcorder, gaming console, or VCR.

Amazon.com Product Description

Go big, go wide, and go high-def with this snazzy 51-inch projection set from Philips. The 51PP9303H offers a widescreen (16:9) aspect ratio and renders 480p and 1080i high-definition signals at full resolution. It's fully compatible with DTV set-top boxes and other high-definition sources, boasting a direct-digital DVI (Digital Visual Interface), a high-definition component-video input, and even a PC input.

Several onboard technologies improve your image, regardless of the source. Active Control continuously measures and corrects all incoming signals to provide the best picture settings. This feature provides a sharp and virtually noise-free picture any time, from any NTSC source. The 51PP9303H's 3-line comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

EyeFidelity (480p/1050i) brings interlaced sources like VCRs and non-progressive-scanning DVD players into the digital realm, giving you a choice between different line doubling and scanning techniques, progressive or interlaced, to reduce motion artifacts like jagged edges and stair stepping.

Also on hand is APAC (Automatic Phosphor Aging Compensation), a Philips technology that automatically shifts your television picture in very small increments to defray the chances of permanent image burn-in or etching.

You get single-tuner, side-by-side PIP (picture-in-picture) from any source, meaning you can view a DVD image over an HDTV signal (or vice-versa) as well as a VHS signal over an SD TV show, depending on what you have plugged into the set--your choice. Program List shows your favorite channels at the press of a button. You can scroll through the list, highlight a favorite channel, and tune directly to the channel.

Connections include the above-mentioned DVI and HD component-video input, 1 PC inputs (RGB+H/V), 3 each composite- and S-video terminals, and an RF coaxial input for an antenna, an older VCR, or a cable box. There's also a composite-video output with a set of stereo analog (left/right) RCA outputs for use with AV receiver and integrated amplifiers.

The set offers a choice of Dolby Virtual Surround and Incredible Surround to simulate surround sound from any 2 speakers, including those featured in the 51PP9303H.The TV's 10 watts-per-channel internal amplifier gives you strong, clear sound, while auto volume leveling minimizes dramatic swings in listening level, a nice feature for nighttime viewing.

1-0 out of 5 stars You call this portable?
This review is based solely on the manufacturer's claim that this a portable TV. Come on!! Last time I checked, a portable TV was something you could carry anywhere. Can you imagine yourself carrying this 19.5" x 17.9" x 19.1", 42 lbs TV? Even if you could, I doubt it can run on batteries --with a screen that big you'll need about 30 Duracell's every 10 minutes-- so you'll also need a pretty long extension chord.
