4-0 out of 5 stars Nice television
I find the picture to be bright and clear. Easy set-up and connections. Good price for a 27 inch t.v. This t.v. takes up less room than my old 25-inch. I would recommend buying one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Dependable!
I went back to a Magnavox after trying two other name brands. They just don't have the same quality and reliability. The picture on this TV can't be beat and I didn't have to spend a lot of money. I put it in a condo that we rent out for vacationers and I needed something that will take a lot of abuse. It also had to be easy to use which this one is. It may not have a lot of features but I will take dependability over features any day. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good TV, specifications incorrect!
I purchased this TV from a great Vendor AV outfitters through Amazon. It was shipped very quickly to me. I thought the TV had a great picture, but I was disappointed that Philips misrepresented the specifications of this unit. If you go to Philips site and look up this model, it shows several sets of hookups on the back of the this Model. Also the specifications on Philips own site not only pictured this incorrectly but also listed the actual specifications and capablity of the tube and resolution incorrectly. I had researched this purchase at several amazon dealers listed prior to making my purchase. One of them was J&R audio and video. They also showed the wrong specifications on their site. I also received incorrect information from Philips themselves. ...

To anyone considering this television, it is a very nice unit, but it is not 1080i like another person mentioned in his review. There is only one S video hookup in the rear, and only on set of RCA composite hookups in the rear instead of the several shown on the rear of this TV on Philips own site. I was told by Philips that this televison will only play in stereo if it is hooked up composite and does not support it through the cable hookup. The picture is one of the best I have seen, and the set does have a comb filter, but because of the lack of the other hookups and the inablity to support stereo sound through the cable hook up, I decided this television was not for me. I have since replaced it with another set that has several composite hook ups both in and out and also a componet hook up for my DVD. I hope this helps the next person researching this television.

4-0 out of 5 stars nice little tv
I just received this tv.....a nice flat screen tv with good picture and sound. The remote is easy to use and has a solid feel to it. S video input if needed is a nice feature. Would recommend this tv...a fine price!

5-0 out of 5 stars SWEET TV
I got this tv to put in my room and hook up my PS2 to. it has worked perfectly. the svideo input in the back makes it real easy to plug in PS2 and picture is awesome. this tv is the perfect tv for anyone who wants a relatively small tv with an s-video input and a flatscreen for a great price.in a word, it's perfect. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Value!
With so many choices today in television, it was really hard to make a decision. I have always been a fan of Magnavox products because of their great value and this big screen TV didn't disappoint me. The picture is terrific and it has a lot of features that most brands at this price don't have. It comes with a protective screen which I thought I would have had to buy separately. This is a must if you have small children. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars The sound don't work.
After Owning this TV (Phillips 27PT41B 27" with 10Watt dbx stereo
sound)for such a very short time. , I can truly say I like the TV but it has only been a month and the sound on my TV just stop playing. I am very upset that this has happened after I have paid my money. If someone can tell me what to do I would be very happy. I wanted to settle this via phone but I was not given a number in which to call.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great TV for the money!

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite TV!
I own three TVs in my house, and this is the one I watch shows and movies on the most. It's beautiful. I don't normally review TV's but I felt this one deserves one because of the entertainment it's given me. First of all, it displays a flawless picture, and is completely flat, which is just like a movie theater. Secondly, it's not very spacious. I basically put it in the living room immediately. Visitors compliment me on it's stylish look. Definately the best TV I've ever boughten.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good for a while. Not so good anymore
I bought this TV 1.5 years ago. I thought it was great for the first few months, then I gradually noticed that the picture just didn't seem as clear anymore. Now when I watch my digital cable, I can't even read small text on the screen because it is so blurry. Same thing for DVDs...forget about reading subtitles! It's very annoying and frustrating.
I'm not sure what exactly is wrong with it, but I am certainly NOT happy with my TV now. I contemplated buying the Sony WEGA model, but opted not too because of the price increase. Now I see it probably would have been worth it. No more Phillips products for me.
One other con, the TV is HUGE and HEAVY It's so awkward to carry, I almost killed myself moving it last summer. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The 27PT830H's 27-inch Real Flat, high-definition picture tube delivers exciting home cinema viewing when used with a progressive-scan DVD player or an outboard digital set-top box for DTV reception. The set's standard, 4:3 aspect ratio matches that of most TV broadcasts, and letterboxing options are available for viewing widescreen programs in their original dimensions. Picture enhancements include a sophisticated 3D Y/C digital comb filter, which improves quality of incoming interlaced video signals by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

Eye Fidelity gives you the choice between different line doubling and scanning techniques--progressive or interlaced--so you can reduce motion artifacts like jagged edges and stair stepping, viewing material in progressive scan (480p) or a line-doubled (1080i) picture.

Velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.

The set offers stereo reception with 10 watts power per stereo speaker, and onboard Incredible Surround processing simulates surround sound from any two speakers.

Two sets of high-definition component-video inputs (1080i/480p) accommodate a set-top box/HD satellite receiver and a progressive-scan DVD player, while side and rear composite- and S-video inputs accommodate other hardware. Rear-panel audio/video outputs make it a cinch to hook the set up with your home theater surround receiver for a truly immersive AV experience. A 0.125-inch headphone jack lets you listen in private. The set includes an NTSC tuner for standard TV reception and comes with a universal remote control.

2-0 out of 5 stars Turning it on is only the beginningl!!!
Like the 2 reviewers before me, I too had this set delivered, hooked it up and tried to turn it on and NOTHING! I started to freak out and was plugging and unplugging the set, pushing the remote buttons and the on off button on the TV to no avail until finally, out of a sheer desperation, I started to play with the manual channel/volume control disc on the top of the set while I puhed the on off button repeatedly and although I don't know what the magic combination of channel up, volume down, on/off button was, it suddenly came to life! The power light illuminated, the screen lit up, a picture appeared and I half expected an angel to fly out of the back end! Ever since, I've never had a problem turning it on or off and I think the reason is that this TV has about 5 "channel inputs" in the back, (DVD, Cable, VCR, HDTV etc) and I think that initially, the set was "stuck" on one of those channel inputs instead of the TV input and only manually changing the channel with the power cycled it through the inputs and "revived it" (The reason I think this is that now, when I turn it on, there is a 10 - 12 second delay before a channel/picture comes in because the TV is cycling through the different inputs internally determining which input you have currently selected.)

Now that the TV was on, and the cable was working I plugged in my Progressive scan DVD player to the back HDTV input with such excitement, anticipating the amazing HDTV image that was about to be the projected in my humble living room, awaiting the Ooohs and Ahhhs of my friends as they oogled the depth, color and clarity that is HDTV. I switched the TV channel to HDTV input, powered up the DVD and hit the play button...

The TV, now in 16:9 HDTV mode with black bars superimposed on top and bottom of the screen to simulate the widescreen experience (a mandatory sizing of the HDTV channel) began to show a crystal clear picture of high definition perfection, like the light of the pearly gates of Heaven, true HDTV started emanating from my TV screen. I gazed upon it with joy and amazement until my utter excitement was marred by a strange 1/2 inch purple and white dotted line which appeared across the top of the film image right at the upper black bar.

I adjusted the picture, DVD player, tried another disc, repowered on and off, channeled through the inputs, rechecked the monster cables, nothing would obliterate that strange, eery, pulsating purple and white demon light across my screen.

I called the Philips customer support and after speaking with many unknowledgable buffoons, I finally reached the HDTV genius who told me, "Oh yes, that happens due to the additional data tracks stored on most DVD's. It's normal for this TV to read the data track as light images and project them onto the edge of the screen between the image and the black bar on top due to the additional lines in HDTV projection. No need to return it for repair!"

I could not return the TV to Amazon, Philips told me it was normal (in their later manuals, they actually include a microscopic note on page 70 something about the mysterious HDTV light-line and that it is "normal" for this set.) (If that is normal, I'm afraid to see abnormal...) I myself, found the HDTV channel unwatchable with that horrid line, so have since, hooked the DVD player up to the regular component input on the back of the set and watch TV in regular definition. The picture and sound are perfectly clear, just not HDTV and for the $999 I paid for HDTV, I could have bought a regular Philips 27" TV for $379. Alas, I chose to just eat my losses and deal with this TV for a few years until i decide to replace it with a widescreen or LCD/Plasma TV. Until then, I shall try to remember the few brief moments of heavenly HDTV purity I viewed before the devil line took it all away...;8^)

4-0 out of 5 stars Please ignore Dave. The TV is not bad
I really can't understand how you got a tv dead out of the box and even made an attempt to repair it. That sounds fishy to me. Ok, so their service sucks. Everyone is aware now.

On the actual tv. I bought this as an open box buy so I saw my same tv working in the store. The picture is superb and you can plug a computer into the tv also via the vga input on the back. If you are buying this as a bedroom tv, the sound is really amazing and does a good job of simulating spaciousness.

Whether or not its worth the high price I'm not sure but its defintely worth the open box price I got it for.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dave's update
I promised an update. Still no TV. The customer service is atrocious. My credit card company is now trying to help me out with this problem. Buyer beware.....Amazon beware. This product/company is far to poor to be sold on this web site. I have never had a problem with Amazon. They are always curteous and genuinely want to help. Philips is full of rhetoric and B.S. No responses to e-mails, a dozen phone calls, and still no action. Next stop.......Better Business Bureau.

P.S.

Stay tuned

1-0 out of 5 stars Dave's right ladies and gents.
And here I thought that the reviewer above had just grabbed the short straw. Turns out I've got the exact same problem. The TV, right out of the box mind you, does not turn on. It's not that it has no picture. It just literally doesn't turn on. Philips hasn't returned any emails, and the local shop (which is 40 odd miles away) doesn't even know where to start with this.

Stay away from this product. It's cursed.

1-0 out of 5 stars Philips Manufacturers Warranty is a Joke!
I purchased this TV February 9, 2004. I still haven't viewed a single program to date (April 2). This product is not covered by Amazon (27" and over), and Philips still have not returned my E-mails. I received this TV on February 11, 2004 in an undamaged box. After reading instructions, I plugged in the TV and turned it on. Nothing, called Philips customer service (note: there customer service is located overseas in India, and if you ask a question that is not on their list of possible questions, expect a lot of confusion and bewilderment) where I was told to call a local approved service center. The service center picked up the TV February 17, and to this day there it sits. Philips has still not sent the replacement parts in able to Refurbish this TV. The warranty states that an item will be fixed (refurbished if it never worked in the first place) or replaced. What happened to replaced? I guess Philips thinks its acceptable to have its customers wait months to take care of a problem, instead of sending out a replacement. I was extremely patient at first. Now my patience is gone. Look elseware for a TV. I wish I had. Maybe this review will save some other sucker from the hoop jumping that I have been going through. Philips USA 1, consumer 0.

P.S.

If I ever receive the product (there is a nice TV where the Philips was supposed to go), I'll let everyone know how it is. ... Read more

Sporting a wall-like 60-inch screen, the Philips 60P8341 projection TV truly brings the theater into your home.

Video Features
This analog projection television features Multipoint Digital Convergence for ideal color reproduction and crisply defined edges. The CRT also features an enhanced green phosphor for richer, natural colors, and image flicker reduction. This feature also works with multiple video sources, such as the Internet, a videotape, DVD, video game, and, of course, conventional television programs. Finally, it features a digital comb filter, which enhances resolution by removing the blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl.

Audio Features
The 60P8341 features Philips' Incredible Surround, a surround-sound system designed to provide room-filling audio from the two speakers on the set, as opposed to five separate home theater speakers. It also features Video and dbx sound processing. Connections include a side and rear component A/V input, two side jack S-video inputs, one composite A/V output, and a headphone jack

Amazon.com Product Description

The CCC092AT TV/VCR's compact size belies its powerful and convenient feature set. Its light weight and 9-inch screen make it idel for travel, and--using supplied cords--the CCC092AT operates on both ordinary household 120-volt current (AC) or direct current (DC) available through a car, boat, or RV. Front-panel audio/video/game inputs accommodate a camcorder, game console, or second VCR quickly and easily. A full auto-feature package includes power on, digital auto tracking, auto play, auto repeat, auto rewind, auto eject, auto head cleaner, and auto power off.

You can record up to eight hours or to the end of the tape with the touch of a single button, and each touch of the OTR (one-touch record) button adds 30 minutes of additional recording time. The unit comes with standard eight-event, one-year programming for the VCR, and ShowGuard timer/programmer backup memory keeps all your timer/programming safe, even through power outages. Meanwhile, SmartClock with time-zone select maintains the correct time, regularly checking and updating the time if necessary. It also resets the clock after a power failure. Daylight savings time adjustment automatically compensates for Daylight Savings Time in early April and late October so you don't have to reset the clock twice a year; just "set it and forget it."

When tape playback begins, digital auto tracking seeks the optimum video and audio tracking positions for the clearest picture and sound. (Buttons on the remote transmitter give you manual control should tracking adjustments be necessary.) With automatic channel setup, the VCR tuner scans through television frequencies, automatically storing active broadcast channels into memory. Then, only channels programmed into memory are tuned using the channel up/down buttons on either the remote or front panel. Automatic channel preset can be repeated whenever desired, and you can always add or delete channels manually.

SQPB (S-VHS Quasi-Playback) lets you watch videotapes recorded in the S-VHS (Super-VHS) mode without buying expensive S-VHS equipment. The set's unified, multi-function remote operates all features and functions of both the TV and the VCR sections. Other features include closed-captioning, bilingual (English/Spanish) onscreen display, onscreen real-time counter, a sleep/wake timer, amonaural earphone jack for private listening, A-B and indefinite repeat play, a rapid-start mechanism, memory rewind/off, dew sensor, detachable sun screen, special effects, and 15x forward/reverse search.

2-0 out of 5 stars Broke and ate tapes
We had this unit for six months when it ate a tape and we had to pay to get the tape out. It costs too much to fix so now we have to buy a new unit.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great picture quality, but audio is poorly designed
I have been in the market for a combination TV/VCR for several months. We planned to use it during our many long "road trips" in our minivan. One piece of advice I've consistently received from friends who own these is -- GET A UNIT WITH SPEAKERS ON THE FRONT! In most cars or minivans, these units end up being propped between the two front seats, so the children in the back can easily see. When the speakers are on the SIDE (rather than the front), guess who ends up hearing all of those Barney songs?? You guessed it -- Mom and Dad! Somehow, in a moment of temporary forgetfulness, I ordered this Philips TV/VCR without noticing where the speakers were located. Silly me. When we received the item, we were really distressed to see that not only were the speakers on the SIDE, but there was only ONE speaker .. on the RIGHT side of the TV (left side if you're looking at the screen), which means that the audio blasts into the ear of the DRIVER. Not good at all. So if you are looking for a small TV/VCR to use in your home, and you don't care where the audio portion comes out, then this would probably be a great TV for you. But if it's going to spend a great deal of time in your car or van, I would highly recommend getting a different model. We have been pleased with our replacement TV, which is a Panasonic PV-920. It has speakers both in the FRONT and on the side. I can handle that!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for home or car!
I bought this for my daughter's room but I wanted one that we could take along on car trips too. Everyone told me not to get the VCR and TV all-in-one the VCRs in them break easily. Well this has survived a 1,000+ round trip with a seven and a three year old jamming movies in, yanking them out, knocking it off the console and all kinds of other abuse. It still works great! The remote was easy to use and I like the automatic clock set feature! I recommend the TV VCR for anyone with kids! ... Read more
