Amazon.com Product Description

Enjoy a large, crystalline image from just about any video source with the Philips Magnavox 9P6031C. The 60-inch projection TV sports rear-panel component-video, S-video, and composite-video inputs and an onboard 181-channel NTSC tuner for off-air TV reception right out of the box. The set's picture-in-picture capability includes SmartWindow with Action Freeze, positioning, and image swap, so you can view any input as the main image and any TV station as an inset image, or vice-versa.

The set offers a 160-degree wide-angle screen and 550 foot Lamberts peak brightness. It's loaded with 7" liquid-cooled, liquid-coupled tubes, MagnaBrite lenses with Digital convergence, and a wideband video amplifier. Using a Delta 77/78 lens (an industry standard in optics), the MagnaBrite lens system achieves more consistent edge-to-edge brightness and contrast with a dramatically reduced focal length, resulting in crisp, well-defined large-screen images from a slim cabinet design (under 30 inches, front to back).

A notch filter gives you greater resolution and sharper, clearer, more detail-perfect color images. And, by extending the video bandwidth to 10 MHz, the set's wideband video amplifier gives you up to 800 lines of horizontal resolution for striking picture detail and an impressive increase in frequency response through the audio/video inputs (the lines per picture width are 650 based on EIA measurement procedures).

The stereo sound system built into this TV uses an MTS/SAP decoder, bass boost, and individual bass, treble, and balance controls for personal listening preference. There's also dbx noise reduction, which eliminates hiss and high-frequency interference. The large, 4 x 6-inch elliptical speakers are powered by 5 watts RMS per channel x 2 (into 8 ohms, from 50 to 20,000 Hz, with no more than 0.5 percent total harmonic distortion). Incredible Stereo heightens the overall entertainment experience by engulfing you in a "wall of sound" using psychoacoustic audio techniques.

The supplied universal TV/VCR/DVD/DBS/cable remote operates all features and functions of the set, granting direct menu access even activating SmartWindow PIP. The remote also controls all important features and functions of virtually all infrared-capable VCRs, DVD players, digital broadcast systems (satellite receivers), as well as toggling on/off and channel up/down on most cable converter/decoders.

When activated, SmartSound keeps volume levels constant between programs and commercials, and from one channel to another. Other convenient features include a 120-minute sleep timer, random channel access, 1-button picture reset, and status recall. SmartLock (Parental Control) lets you protect young children from harmful programming with V-chip technology based on the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and the network television rating systems.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Projection TV for the Money
I Recently purchased the Philips Magnavox 9P6031C 60 inch TVand so far
I am very pleased with it. I purchased [this set] and saved $300-500
over comparable sets by other manufacturers. The picture is very good
and has settings for movies, sports, or for weak reception which I use
since my cable reception is not very good. I purchased a Toshiba DVD
player and using the component video output into the component video
in on the TV gives me the kind of picture I had dreamed I would
achieve. This combined with a new home theater system has turned my
new rec room into a virtual movie theater. The setup is relatively
easy and the SMART features on the menu offer several easy to access
options.... I would
recommend this set to anyone who wants a high quality set offered at a
reasonable price, and has the room to enjoy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bargain basement home theater
I use this TV as a part of my cheap home theater. I don't use the TV's built in sound at all. I have a Surround Sound Pro Logic receiver, a VCR, and this TV all hooked together. the TV has excellent picture quality, very easy to use on screen controls, composite/component video in on the front of the tv (I wish it was on the back). To be honest, I have never touched any buttons on the TV besides the power button. My VCR controls the channel changing, and my receiver controls the audio.

But, this TV is very deep. Is BARELY fits back into my home theater enclosure. It also has a very weirdly shaped backend. It does, however have a nice flat spot on the top of the set to put my large center channel speaker.

The tube on this TV is quite rounded (though this doesn't affect picture quality at all, which is excellent), so dont' expect anything like a trinitron monitor to come out of the packing.

This is a great little TV that is well worth the price. I would buy again.

5-0 out of 5 stars philips wonderful
i've also owned an rca tv, this time i wanted to try a philips, boy i'm so glad i did, it's wonderful, very easy to program, the sleeptimer i think is great, now i'm looking for 27-inch for the family room. philips here we go again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great TV - Not So Good Fit
I purchased this TV for My Bedroom Entertainment Set Up. The armoire I have that is designed to be an Entertainment center is not deep enough to accommodate the Depth of this TV. The Design is very narrow, cone shaped. This makes it difficult to fit into a regular cabinet or entertainment center, which would normally accommodate this size TV. I have a 52" Television in my living room, and it is as deep as this 19" model. Keep this in mind when buying, "where is it going to go?". Also, the TV works great but it does not have stereo sound or hookups which accommodate L/R Channel Speaker hookups for DVD, and Audio components of that nature. Great for just watching TV! And it has many menu features such as detailed parental controls and Smartsound (to balance out different channel volume levels). The remote is a bit different; there is an arrow pad in the center which would usually control channel surfing & volume, but these arrow buttons are just for menu browsing and the volume and channel controls are to the sides of that (set up like a digital cable remote).

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I bought this one week ago. It have friendly menu, excellent picture quality. Although it does not have stero, the sound is also good.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good TV, yet no Output plugs
I really like this tv. It was a great price given the size and quality. It has been in operation for over two years. One major complaint: There is not output ports. 2-0 out of 5 stars lacks durability, not for young kids
We were very happy with this TV/VCR when we first received it. It was very easy to use and quite portable. But then after 2 weeks the play button on the front panel stopped working. A week later as I was getting ready to take it to the repair shop, my daughter stuck some crayons in the VCR slot. When I took it into the repair shop, the receptionist said not to worry about it, kids stick stuff in VCRs all the time and it's not that big a deal. Well the next day I got a call from the repair shop saying the unit was so badly damaged from the crayons that it couldn't be fixed. He said the power supply was blown, the gears broken, and a few other things. If we had bought a regular TV with a separate VCR, we would now at least still have the TV, but as it is we're back to being a single TV family. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great TVs!
I currently own a Philips Magnavox television. The picture quality is great and so are the options. Make sure if you are buying a PM tv that you do check and make sure that it has s video if you are going to run a dvd player off of it. The quality can get much better.

I would buy this tv again, I'm not so sure about moving it though.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice For your room.
This Television will fit perfectly in your room. It is not too big and can fit in an entertainment center. The price of this T.V. is great for a philips of this size. You will definantly be happy with it. It has great resolution for your DVD player and will go good with a home theater. This T.V. is also big enough to be put in your living room or Den. There is a buzzing noise!... you can only really change the balance levels or the speakers.

It's an OK TV, that's why I gave it three Stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent TV
This tv can be extremely loud and sounds nice to me. Picture seems crisp to me. My only quirks with it is that the power cable is too short so the power socket has to be like behind or almost next to the tv. The TV has a 16"-18" depth to it so anyone wanting to buy this, might want to consider where it is going. You need minimal of 18" inches of depth for the tv.

Overall: I love this tv set. I would reccomend it to others who need a small 19" set or maybe a family tv.

3-0 out of 5 stars Where's the rear AV hookups?
It's great to have front AV jacks for game machines, camcorders, etc but why delete the rear jacks commonly used for VCR and DVD hookups? The picture quality is extremely good, the sound is poor for side mounted speakers, and the remote has great features and works super. I can live with the poor quality speakers but the lack of rear AV jacks is more serious...I'm going to return it and pay afew dollars more for a better set!

3-0 out of 5 stars bad sound
Bought this at a local store for ten dollars more than Amazon.com. Picture and everything else was fine, though speakers started to buzz, even at low levels. Just returned it.

Amazon.com Product Description

Whether you're a sports fan, movie fanatic, or news junkie--or some combination of the three--you'll be amazed at the picture quality and feature set offered by Philips' 55-inch 55PW9383 widescreen projection television. This high-definition set is capable of producing crisp, nuanced HDTV signals in all their glory: full 1080i resolution via a digital set-top box (not included). Progressive-scan DVD players are also prime source components for this set; display format upconversion makes sure you're seeing the best image possible, regardless of the source. The 55PW9383 was designed and constructed with the latest projection technology for rich, seamless presentations--and it goes a long way toward handling your home-theater audio requirements, too.

Philips' 35-point convergence brings with it the accuracy of digital technology for flawless convergence of red, green, and blue electron guns and a superb picture with no colored haloes. Philips HD Optics produces detailed HD resolution through cutting-edge processing and display technology, including a wideband video amplifier, micro phosphor CRTs, hybrid projection lenses, a first-surface mirror (for more direct light transmission), and the set's fine-pitched lenticular screen. A feature called Auto IntelliSense Focus automatically adjusts picture convergence at the push of a button.

If a video image remains stationary, it can eventually burn a permanent after-image into the screen. Automatic Phosphor Aging Compensation (APAC) periodically shifts your television picture in increments that are tiny, but still large enough to blur image retention. Active Control performs continuous picture analysis and maintains control of Automatic Digital Noise Reduction and auto sharpness. A three-line digital comb filter gives you Improved chroma/luminance separation over standard two-line glass comb filters for a difference you can really see.

Eye Fidelity gives you a choice between two different scanning techniques: progressive and interlaced scanning. Progressive scanning doubles the number of visible picture lines per field by displaying all picture frame lines at once, eliminating line flicker. Interlaced mode reduces annoying motion artifacts and helps smooth jagged lines sometimes seen on images of curved and angled surfaces.

The set's double-window, dual-tuner picture-in-picture feature splits the screen into two independent halves, letting you do everything from watching two shows simultaneously to watching one while surfing the other, or scanning channels while keeping an eye on video input one, two, or three.

The set uses two-way stereo speakers and also features an auto volume limiter to minimize drastic level changes between, say, a TV program and its commercials. A center-channel speaker input lets you use the set as a center--no bulky or costly center-channel required--and a rear-panel subwoofer output makes it easy to hook up a powered sub for deeper-than-deep bass effects or low-end musical authenticity.

A 10-watts-per-channel sound system offers both Virtual Dolby Surround and Incredible Surround, processing circuitry that produces the sensation of surround sound without the hassle of installing additional rear speakers.

Other connections include three each composite- and S-video inputs, two component-video inputs (one HD, one standard), and a DVI direct digital input for use with a compatible DTV set-top box or other DVI device. A set of audio/video outputs lets you integrate the TV with your stereo or surround receiver, and a set of side-mounted AV inputs simplifies hookup of a camcorder, gaming console, or VCR.

The 55PW9383's protective screen filter helps prevent accidental damage to the delicate front lenticular screen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Big HDTV!! This thing is huge. Great picture.
Well this wasn't my first HDTV of choice. I originally ordered Toshiba 51h83 51 inch Widescreen from Amazon. After 3 weeks they backordered, then the next day they cancelled my order for this product has been discontinued. I wasn't happy about it at all, because I was getting that TV for $1396.00 and that included shipping. Now it was time to start shopping again. I am so happy I had a chance to buy this Philips TV. This thing is a beast at 55 inches. The HDTV picture is incredible. Even playing VHS tapes off my VCR produces a great picture. I haven't hooked up a progressive scan DVD player to it yet, it is due to arrive in a few days. I am sure it will produce nothing less than a great picture. I am also into sound and I have not hooked my surround reciever up to it yet. I have been using the TV audio and it is great. This TV will overwhelm you with all it feature and size. Amazon.com Product Description

Philips' 55-inch 55PP9352 is tailor-made for producing progressive-scan DVD playback and high-definition broadcast programming with clarity and vivid color. The widescreen aspect-ratio (16:9) set delivers 1080i high-definition signals at full resolution when connected to an optional digital set-top box. Now you'll be able to revel in every drop of water, each soaring aerial shot in your favorite programming, whether off-air HDTV broadcasts or DVDs played through top-of-the-line progressive-scan DVD players.

Technologies like 35-point digital convergence, Automatic Phosphor Aging Compensation (APAC, which automatically shifts your television picture in very small increments to defray image burn-in), and Active Control (which continuously analyzes the picture to control digital noise reduction and sharpness) enhance the picture in subtle but meaningful ways.

Other features include:

Multipoint digital convergence: Designed to meet the demands of curved CRT faceplates and short focal length lenses, Philips' expansive 35-point convergence brings with it the accuracy of digital technology for flawless convergence of red, green, and blue guns and a superb picture with no colored haloes.

Eye Fidelity: Progressive Scan/Interlaced: Eye Fidelity gives the consumer a choice between 2 different scanning techniques--Progressive Scan and Interlaced. Progressive Scan doubles the number of visible picture lines per field by displaying all picture frame lines at once--also eliminating line flicker. The Interlaced mode provides for a double vertical display (interlaced) of progressive scan, which reduces annoying motion artifacts. The Interlaced mode also helps smooth out jagged lines sometimes seen on curved and angled surfaces.

Protective screen filter: This filter has been specifically formulated by Philips for HD displays to give the best possible picture and still protect your investment. The protective screen filter helps prevent accidental damage to the delicate front Lenticular screen.

High-definition component-video and DVI (Digital Visual Interface) inputs: Supports HD video input for superb color purity, crisp color detail, and reduced color noise; includes separate inputs for Y, Pb, Pr, horizontal sync and vertical sync plus a DVI direct-digital input.

3D Y/C comb filter: Activated when using the tuner and composite-video inputs, the 3D Y/C Comb Filter processes the video with spatial and temporal filtering--virtually eliminating cross-color and cross-luminance interference improving video resolution.

Dual-Tuner Picture-In-Picture: Enjoy all the benefits of PIP without a VCR. You can tune to your favorite show with tuner 1, for example, while scanning other channels with tuner 2 in the PIP window. The A/V inputs are also available as PIP sources so all functions of standard PIP are still accessible.

Virtual Dolby Surround (20 Watts RMS): Dolby processing circuitry for enhanced surround sound effect creates the sensation of Dolby Pro Logic without the hassle of additional rear speakers.

199. Philips 30PW862H 30" Widescreen HD-Ready TV with 2-Tuner PIP

Amazon.com Product Description

Get the most from the digital age with Philips' 30-inch 30PW862H Real Flat, high-definition widescreen TV. The set's picture tube affords the best home cinema viewing when used with a progressive-scan DVD player or an outboard digital set-top box for DTV reception. Onboard two-tuner, double-window PIP gives you complete flexibility when keeping tabs on two programs simultaneously, right down to the handy freeze feature, which holds an image in the PIP frame and lets you keep watching your program in the main window.

Picture enhancements include a sophisticated 3D Y/C digital comb filter, which improves quality of incoming interlaced video signals by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

Eye Fidelity gives you the choice between different line doubling and scanning techniques--progressive or interlaced--so you can reduce motion artifacts like jagged edges and stair stepping, viewing material in progressive scan (480p) or a line-doubled (1050i) picture.

Scan-velocity modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas. Further, a feature called Active Control continuously analyzes incoming signals and optimizes picture color, sharpness, contrast, and digital noise reduction 60 times per second.

The set offers stereo reception with 10 watts power per stereo speaker, and onboard Virtual Dolby Surround processing simulates surround sound from any two speakers.

Two sets of high-definition component-video inputs (1080i/480p) accommodate a set-top box/HD satellite receiver and a progressive-scan DVD player, while a direct-digital DVI input obviates unnecessary image conversions between digital and analog on the way from your set-top box to your TV.

Side and rear composite- and S-video inputs accommodate other hardware such as a camcorder or gaming device. Rear-panel audio/video outputs make it a cinch to hook the set up with your home theater surround receiver for a truly enveloping A/V experience. A .125-inch headphone jack lets you listen in private, and the set also includes a universal remote control.
