    Amazon.com Product Description

Balancing high style and high quality, Philips' 30-inch widescreen, high-definition-ready 30PF9946D will command center stage when needed and blend seamlessly with most decors when not in use. Its high brightness (600 cd/m2) and high contrast (600:1) ensure dynamic images from any source, while an integrated NTSC TV tuner offers cable or broadcast reception of all your favorite programs. Hook the 30PF9946D up to an optional DTV receiver or progressive-scan DVD player and you'll enjoy vivid, detailed pictures from 1080i, 720p, and 480p sources, which render at up to 720p resolution on the set's native 1,024 x 768-pixel screen.

LCD technology allows screens to be thinner and televisions to be lighter and more energy-efficient than ever before. The result is television that not only fits on a wall, but fits in places conventional televisions cannot. And wide (170 x 170 degrees) viewing angles mean it'll look great no matter where you're sitting.

LCD screens offer a number of benefits over CRT monitors and televisions, including general ease of use, freedom from eye strain (no screen flickering or radiation emissions), quiet operation (no high-pitch "flyback" noise, an issue with CRT TVs), accurate image geometry (no curvature distortion or susceptibility to magnetic interference from, say, speakers), and long screen life (with no risk of image burn-in). They also tend to be cheaper and, to some eyes, slightly more natural looking than their plasma flat-panel counterparts, which usually "spec" higher (higher brightness, higher contrast ratio).

The 30PF9946D's comes outfitted with Digital Crystal Clear technology, a suite of picture innovations including Dynamic Contrast, a comb filter, and advanced, 10-bit processing. A feature called Active Control Plus+ continually adjusts picture settings at over 60 times per second for all inputs, correcting both sharpness and noise reduction, even adjusting for changes in ambient viewing light.

The 30PF9946D also performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.

Audio/video inputs include a direct-digital HDMI input, a high-definition component-video input, and a VGA computer input, as well as 2 each composite- and S-video inputs. A pair of built-in speakers are drive by 15 watts per channel amplification. Onboard Dolby Virtual Surround simulates enveloping surround sound from any 2 speakers, and a side-panel headphone jack affords private listening.

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver). HDMI supports standard-definition (SD), enhanced definition (ED), or high-definition (HD) video, plus multi-channel digital audio--all using a single cable. It transmits all ATSC HDTV standards and supports up to 8-channel digital audio, with bandwidth to spare to accommodate future enhancements and requirements.

    Amazon.com Product Description

Now you can have a big-screen, high-definition picture with crystal-clear quality and without the bulk associated with rear-projection televisions. Philips' 32PF9966 offers a high-performance, widescreen (16:9) image from a casing little more than 4 inches deep. This set enhances your viewing environment, too, using Philips' revolutionary Ambilight system, which lights the wall behind the television with soft colors designed to enhance your perception of any given scene.

    What Is Ambilight?
Ambilight technology is a feature that projects soft light onto the wall behind the TV. You can choose from six preset colors and white tones, or the tones can be personalized using the custom settings. Or simply allow Ambilight to adjust the backlight color based on the action on the screen.

    Without ambient light

    With ambient light
The 32-inch set offers high brightness (500 cd/m2) and exemplary contrast (800:1), as well as a pair of integrated NTSC TV tuners for cable or broadcast reception of all your favorite programs and stations. Hook it up to an optional DTV receiver or progressive-scan DVD player and you'll enjoy vivid, detailed images from 1080i, 720p, and 480p sources, which render at up to 720p resolution on the set's native 1,366 x 768-pixel screen.

The Ambilight feature throws a soft glow on the wall behind the set to relax your eyes and heighten your perception of image detail, brightness, contrast, and color accuracy. The system offers full multicolor settings, dimming, 6 preset modes, 1 user preset, full operation in stand-by mode, and a low-energy lamp system with a lamp life of more than 60,000 hours.

Philips invented Digital Natural Motion to eliminate the "juddering" effects visible in moving video images. Digital Natural Motion estimates motion and corrects "juddering" in both broadcast and DVD-based movie material, smoothing and sharpening the images you see.

LCD technology allows screens to be thinner and televisions to be lighter and more energy-efficient than ever before. The result is television that not only fits on a wall, but fits in places conventional televisions cannot. The 32PF9966's comes outfitted with Digital Crystal Clear technology, a suite of picture innovations including Dynamic Contrast, a 3D digital comb filter, color-transient improvement (CTI), and green-/blue-stretch color enhancement.

Pixel Plus uses the power of the Pixel Plus processor to enhance every single pixel displayed. The result is razor-sharp pixels with incredible detail and depth. A feature called Active Control Plus continually adjusts picture settings at over 60 times per second for all inputs, correcting both sharpness and noise reduction, even adjusting for changes in ambient viewing light.

The set's full DualScreen PIP comes with 2 integrated NTSC tuners and the ability to watch 2 different channels simultaneously. PIP features include standard picture in picture (3 sizes, free positioning), 3PIP Mosaic, and 8PIP Mosaic.

A built-in audio amplifier pumps 15 watts per channel x 2 RMS, and onboard Dolby Virtual Surround simulates enveloping surround sound from any 2 speakers. The unit's .125-inch headphone jack affords private listening. Audio/video inputs include a direct-digital HDMI input, 1 high-definition component-video, 3 S-video, and 2 composite-video connections, an RF antenna input, as well as a VGA computer input (RCA-type RGB+HV). A convenient side-panel input simplifies spontaneous hookups.

    Amazon.com Product Description

Philips' 42PF9966 plasma television offers a high-performance, widescreen (16:9) image from a casing less than 4 inches deep. The 50-inch set offers astronomical brightness and contrast settings (1,000 cd/m3 and 3,000:1, respectively), as well as an integrated TV tuner for cable or broadcast reception of all your favorite programs. Hook it up to an optional DTV receiver or progressive-scan DVD player and you'll enjoy vivid, detailed images from 1080i, 720p, and 480p sources, which render at up to 720p resolution on the set's native 1,366 x 768-pixel screen.

Philips' unique Ambilight feature throws a soft glow on the wall behind the set to relax your eyes and heighten your perception of image detail, brightness, contrast, and colors. Ambilight settings include 6 presets and a user-adjustable setting. Philips invented Digital Natural Motion to eliminate the "juddering" effects visible in moving video images. Digital Natural Motion estimates motion and corrects "juddering" in both broadcast and DVD-based movie material, smoothing and sharpening the images you see.

With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the 42PF9966 is a mere 3.9 inches deep, perfect for desk or wall mounting (mounting brackets provided). Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems. You do, however, need to be wary of image burn-in (wherein long-held stationary images leave a permanent impression in the screen).

This TV also uses the power of the Pixel Plus processor to enhance every single pixel displayed. The result is razor-sharp pixels with incredible detail and depth. A feature called Active Control Plus continually adjusts picture settings at over 60 times per second for all inputs, correcting both sharpness and noise reduction, even adjusting for changes in ambient viewing light.

The set pumps 15 watts per channel x 2 RMS, and onboard Dolby Virtual Surround simulates enveloping surround sound from any 2 speakers. FM tuning options include 40 convenient presets, RDS (Radio Data Service) for visual station and song identification, and auto/manual station setting. The unit's .125-inch headphone jack affords private listening.

Audio/video inputs include a direct-digital HDMI input, 2 component-video (1 configured for RCA-type RGB+HV computer outputs, with separate horizontal and vertical sync terminals), 3 each S-video, and composite-video connections. A convenient side-panel input (including a headphone jack and an S-video jack) simplifies spontaneous hookups.

    Amazon.com Product Description

Get ready for a night out at the movies--in your own home--with Panasonic's 30-inch widescreen CT-30WX54 HDTV-ready set. You'll get brilliant, high-resolution from the PureFlat screen and enjoy movies the way they were meant to be seen in wide 16:9 aspect ratio. The CT-30WX54 also features an HDMI input, digital velocity scan modulation, picture-in-picture functionality (PIP), a motion-adaptive 3D comb filter, two HD component-video inputs, four A/V inputs (one in front), and three S-video inputs.

Panasonic's PureFlat screen minimizes reflections and distortion, so you can enjoy distraction-free TV viewing no matter where you sit in the room. The fine-pitch screen provides sharp images and excellent detail. To maximize picture quality, Panasonic's LCD TVs incorporate several video enhancement features. The motion-adaptive digital comb filter prevents any two lines with different colors from being processed together in the comb filter at the same time, minimizing any "hanging dots" in the image. With digital velocity scan modulation, advanced circuitry along the neck of the CRT senses shifts from black to white in the video signal. The black and white portions of the signal are sped up and slowed down, respectively, resulting in improved transitions.

The 16:9 aspect ratio, consistent with the shape of cinema screens as well as the HDTV broadcast format, enables viewers to enjoy the full impact of a film as its director originally intended. The screen also accommodates pan and scan or letterbox formats recorded at the 4:3 aspect ratio.

This set has a built-in 181-channel tuner, though you'll need an optional HDTV tuner to receive high-definition broadcasts. The two built-in speakers (15 watts apiece) provide simulated surround sound and BBE high-definition audio enhancement, which helps restore the dynamic range of musical passages to help provide a more natural sound.

The CT-32SL14 has 4 composite A/V inputs (1 front), 3 S-video inputs (1 front), 2 component-video inputs, 1 RF, 1 headphone jack. It adds an HDMI connection, providing high-quality, uncompressed digital audio/video signal transmission.

    Tech Talk
Aspect ratio: The aspect ratio refers to the shape of the video image. Traditional television has a 4:3 aspect ratio, which is almost square in appearance. Digital television has either a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio. A 16:9 aspect ratio is widescreen and appears rectangular, which looks more like a movie screen, filling more of the viewer's field of vision for a more lifelike viewing experience.

HDMI-HDCP interface: HDMI is a new standard digital connection between A/V devices, such as a set-top box, DVD player, or A/V receiver, and a digital television. HDMI offers exceptional video and audio quality with a single quick-disconnect connector. It supports multichannel digital audio transmissions and component-video color spacing for true rendering of HD video. HDMI supports the HDCP copy protection standard, allowing transmission of copy-protected digital content to your display.

    Amazon.com Product Description

Philips' streamlined, affordable 27PT8302 offers a 27-inch RealFlat, high-definition picture tube for vivid images from a progressive-scan DVD player (at 480p resolution) or an outboard digital set-top box (accepting with both 480p and 1080i inputs). The set's standard, 4:3 aspect ratio matches that of most TV broadcasts, and letterboxing options are available for viewing widescreen programs in their original dimensions.

The set offers numerous image enhancements. Crystal Clear III encompasses velocity-scan modulation anda 2D Y/C digital comb filter, which improves quality of incoming interlaced video signals by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

Velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.

EyeFidelity gives you the choice between different line doubling and scanning techniques--progressive or interlaced--so you can reduce motion artifacts like jagged edges and stair stepping, viewing material in progressive scan (480p) or a line doubled (1050i) picture. Other picture technologies include Digital Color Transient Improvement (CTI), Digital Luminance Transient Improver (LTI), and Digital Histogram.

The set offers stereo reception with 10 watts power per stereo speaker, and a choice of onboard Dolby Virtual Surround or Incredible Surround processing simulates surround sound from any 2 speakers.

Two sets of high-definition component-video inputs (1080i/480p) accommodate a set-top box/HD satellite receiver and a progressive-scan DVD player, while side and rear composite- and S-video inputs accommodate other hardware. Rear-panel audio/video outputs make it a cinch to hook the set up with your home theater surround receiver for a truly enveloping AV experience. A 0.125-inch headphone jack lets you listen in private. The set includes an NTSC tuner (with 100 station presets) for standard TV reception and comes with a Sofa-Lite remote control.

The 26PW8402's 26-inch RealFlat, high-definition widescreen tube affords scintillating home cinema viewing when used with a progressive-scan DVD player or a DTV set-top box. Amazon.com Product Description

The Philips 30DV693R TV/DVD combination unit is specially formatted to match as closely as possible the original aspect ratio of your favorite movies. The 30-inch widescreen set also plays DVDs, CDs, and MP3 CDs, letting you enjoy the best movies and music right from one device. Its Real Flat picture tube increases viable viewing angles and reduces reflected ambient light to create a brighter and crisper image, while its digital comb filter removes blurred edges between colors and reduces dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. An Invar mask, such as the one employed in this set, uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing in a brighter, clearer picture.

A hallmark of the set, Philips' QuadraSurf remote control, lets you customize your channel surfing and TV viewing by family member or program theme. Simply use each of the 4 colored surf buttons to view up to 10 of your favorite programs by category--that's 40 total movie, sports, news, music, children's, or other programs--or by family member.

A component-video input grants optimum connection with a compatible DVD player, while standard composite-video, S-video, and RF coaxial inputs accommodate all DVD players. You can choose between multiple rear AV inputs and a set of side AV inputs for extra convenience when hooking up a camcorder or a gaming console. A digital-audio output facilitates hookup with an audio/video surround receiver and multichannel speaker system.

Other 30DV693R features include a 240-minute sleep timer, AutoPicture (which optimizes brightness, contrast, color, tint, and sharpness), AutoLock (which uses V-Chip technology for parental control), and AutoSound (which lets you select settings for voice, music, movies, or custom). Incredible Surround simulates surround sound from the set's 2 speakers, while a side-panel headphone jack affords private listening (headphones not included).

    Amazon.com Product Description

Philips' widescreen, 15:9 aspect-ratio 23PF8946A TFT LCD television brings you 23 diagonal inches of PC convenience and home-theater style. Perfect for use just about anywhere--living rooms, dens, offices, bedrooms, kitchens, dorms, you name it--the TV offers high brightness (450 cd/m2) and high contrast (500:1), as well as an integrated TV tuner for cable or broadcast reception of all your favorite programs.

This is an EDTV display, which means it's a step closer to high-definition or HDTV than standard TVs. When used with a progressive-scan DVD player (or 480p-output DTV set-top box) you'll get seamless, razor-sharp images from your favorite movies and concert videos.

LCD technology allows screens to be thinner and televisions to be lighter and more energy-efficient than ever before. The result is television that not only fits on a wall, but fits in places conventional televisions cannot. The 23PF8946A's comes outfitted with Digital Crystal Clear III technology, a suite of picture innovations including Dynamic Contrast, green/blue stretch, and a 3-line digital comb filter. The comb filter removes blurred edges between colors and reduces dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

A feature called Active Control continually adjusts picture settings at over 60 times per second for all inputs, correcting both sharpness and noise reduction. Auto Picture lets you change--at the touch of a button--the picture settings (color, tint, contrast, etc.) for various types of programming, including sports, movies, multimedia (games), or weak signals.

Auto Sound allows you to select from 3 factory-set controls and a personal control that you set according to your preferences. Use the factory-set controls (voice, music, and theatre) to enhance appropriate programs. Virtual Dolby surround simulates enveloping surround sound from any 2 speakers.

Inputs include 1 component-video, 1 S-video, and 2 composite-video connections, as well as a VGA computer input, which accepts signals up to WXGA (1,280 x 768, from 60 to 75 Hz). Side-panel AV inputs accommodate a camcorder, gaming device, or VCR hookup, and a headphone output (minijack .125-inch) lets you listen in private.

    Amazon.com Product Description

Merge your home computing with your home theater in Philips' 55PP9363H Epic Series high-definition projection television. The massive, 55-inch set offers compatibility with progressive-scanned 480p and full high-definition 1080i video signals, all of which benefit from the set's wealth of picture-enhancing technologies.

Designed to meet the demands of curved CRT faceplates, Philips' 35-point convergence brings with it the accuracy of digital technology for flawless convergence of red, green, and blue electron guns and a superb picture with no colored haloes.

If a video image remains stationary, it can eventually burn a permanent after-image into the screen. Automatic Phosphor Aging Compensation (APAC) periodically shifts your television picture in increments that are tiny, but still large enough to blur image retention. Active Control performs continuous picture analysis and maintains control of Automatic Digital Noise Reduction and auto sharpness. A 3-line digital comb filter gives you Improved chroma/luminance separation over standard 2-line glass comb filters for a difference you can really see.

EyeFidelity gives you a choice between two different scanning techniques: progressive and interlaced scanning. Progressive scanning doubles the number of visible picture lines per field by displaying all picture frame lines at once, eliminating line flicker. Interlaced mode reduces annoying motion artifacts and helps smooth jagged lines sometimes seen on images of curved and angled surfaces.

The set's dual-tuner picture-in-picture lets you monitor one TV channel while simultaneously watching another. Its 10-watts-per-channel sound system offers both Virtual Dolby Surround and Incredible Surround, processing circuitry that produces the sensation of surround sound without the hassle of installing additional rear speakers. The set uses large, 4 x 6-inch stereo speakers and also features an auto volume limiter to minimize drastic level changes between, say, a TV program and its commercials.

Connections include 3 each composite- and S-video inputs, 1 HD component-video inputs, 1 high-definition PC input (RGB+H/V component-video), and a DVI-HDTV direct-digital input for use with a compatible DTV set-top box or other DVI device. A set of audio/video outputs lets you integrate the set with your stereo or surround receiver, and a set of side-mounted AV inputs simplifies hookup of a camcorder, gaming console, or VCR.

The 55PP9363H's protective screen filter helps prevent accidental damage to the delicate front lenticular screen.

    Asin: B0002TXRF4
    Catlog: CE
    Manufacturer: Philips
    Sales Rank: 5075

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link the set with any AV source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver).

Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems. A feature called Active Control Plus continually adjusts picture settings at over 60 times per second for all inputs, correcting both sharpness and noise reduction, even adjusting for changes in ambient viewing light.

Philips invented Digital Natural Motion to eliminate "juddering" effects visible in moving pictures. Digital Natural Motion estimates picture motion and corrects unintended movements in both broadcast and movie material (DVD), resulting in smooth motion reproduction and excellent sharpness.

Enjoy split-screen viewing through the set's 2 integrated NTSC tuners, which give you the ability to watch 2 different channels simultaneously. Includes picture-in-picture (3 sizes, free positioning), 3-PIP multiwindow Mosaic, and 8-PIP Mosaic.

Audio/video inputs include the latest direct-digital HDMI input (with a supplied HDMI-to-DVI adapter in case you're already outfitted for the other digital video connection) and a pair of high-definition component-video inputs, one of which includes H/V sync jacks for use with a PC. Composite- and S-video and RF coaxial inputs round out the connection types, though there's also a .125-inch stereo headphone jack for use with optional headphones.

A set of side-mounted AV inputs accommodates spontaneous hookups with camcorders or gaming consoles, and you can use the set as a center speaker in a surround array (1 center-channel input) while feeding a powered subwoofer with a dedicated subwoofer output.

Onboard Dolby Virtual Surround simulates enveloping surround sound from any 2 speakers, and the set's own pair is powered by a generous 15 watts per channel (x 2). The speakers use Philips' wOOx technology for stronger and higher-quality bass output than conventional TV speakers.

A component-video input grants optimum connection with a compatible DVD player, while standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodate most other audio/video gear, from DVD players to satellite receivers, digital video recorders, video game consoles, cable boxes, and VCRs. You can choose between rear AV inputs and a set of side AV inputs for spontaneous hookups, including a side-panel headphone jack for private listening.

Other 32PT5441 features include a sleep and event timer, AutoPicture (which optimizes brightness, contrast, color, tint, and sharpness), and AutoSound (which lets you select settings for voice, music, movies, or custom). Incredible Surround simulates surround sound from the set's 2 speakers, while bass and treble controls let you adjust the sound to your taste.

2-0 out of 5 stars OK set, annoying buzzing
I just purchased this Philips 20" flat screen television yesterday and I'm also returning it because of that annoying buzzing sound coming out of the back of the tv. Called Philips and their support response was to get it serviced....

The screen is nice and flat but when you actually look at the pixel pattern on the corners, you'll see it's flawed, with corners that bow inwards, and the top and bottom are not straight or true (and no tilt control to fix it either).

    Don't waste your time.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Product is Defective
I've just found that the S-Video and the Audio/Video Input ports of this item are just defective; I tried to connect my panasonic DVD player to the TV, but this TV just couldn't read any signal. So I called the Philips technical support, and they only suggested me to return this to Target. This is really annoying because the TV is too bulky and heavy for me to carry around. I would say that Philips just doesn't have a good quality control because I had electronics from Sony and Panasonic, and they didn't show any defects like this. Since it doesn't work at all, I wouldn't recommend you buy this item unless you're really concerned about the price. I would rather stick to a dependable brand to save my time on returning items.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great TV for the money
I bought this TV for my bedroom about nine months ago, and I have never had the 'buzzing noise' problem that a few reviewers on this site have mentioned. If you purchase this TV and have that problem, I would definitely recommend that you exchange it for another one because THIS IS NOT NORMAL. Perhaps it was a problem with previous models that has since been fixed. I went into my local Target to shop for a TV because I knew I would get one there for a good price. Once I arrived, I took my time and picked out a few that I like based on aesthetics, and then I carefully examined the picture and sound on each one. There's just something about flat screen TVs versus traditional CRTs when it comes to visual quality. The clarity of the picture and color quality were far superior to any other TV that I saw, and for less than $200, the price was definitely right. The sound quality seemed good, too. I wrote the model number down, went home, and researched the TV online a bit more when I got home. I didn't hesitate at all when I came back the next day- I purchased mine, brought it home, and fired it up with a smile on my face. I haven't stopped smiling since- you really do get your money's worth with this TV. I've paired mine up with the new Philips DVP642 progressive scan DVD player (these are sold at Target also, but I don't see this product on the website), and the picture quality is astounding. The number of inputs on this TV allows you to hook up multiple s-video or regular A/V devices, and you can redirect your sound output to a stereo or receiver if you'd like. If you're in the market for a high quality small/medium sized TV for your bedroom or dorm room, this is the way to go. Five stars.

1-0 out of 5 stars It stinx!
When I recieved this product, It was in good condition but broke 5 months later. Besides that, It was extremely ugly. I ou are going to spend this much on this bad of a tv, please get a different one.None of this was Target's fault.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Quality Picture
It's a nice design. Picture is as good, even better than some more famous brands. Great value. ... Read more

    Amazon Product Description

Perfect for high-contrast television and progressive-scan DVD viewing, Philips' standard (4:3) aspect-ratio 20PF7835 is stylish enough and small enough to be used in any room of the house. The 20-inch TV offers high brightness (400 cd/m2) and high contrast (350:1), as well as an integrated NTSC TV tuner for cable or broadcast reception of all your favorite programs. Hook it up to an optional DTV receiver or progressive-scan DVD player and you'll enjoy vivid, detailed images from progressive-scanned 480p sources on the set's native 640 x 480 screen.

Philips' Dynamic Contrast technology optimizes the contrast of the picture by stretching the white, gray, and black levels.

LCD technology allows screens to be thinner and televisions to be lighter and more energy efficient than ever before. The result is television that not only fits on a wall, but fits in places conventional televisions cannot. The 20PF7835 comes outfitted with Digital Crystal Clear III technology, a suite of picture innovations including Dynamic Contrast and advanced, 10-bit processing. Further, the DCDi chip by Faroudja enhances resolution by eliminating the stair-step jagged edges often seen on progressive-scan displays.

Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. The DCDi chip also offers 3:2 pulldown. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.

AutoPicture lets you change--at the touch of a button--the picture settings (color, tint, contrast, etc.) for various types of programming, including sports, movies, multimedia (games), or weak signals. An audio volume leveler (AVL) keeps the TV sound at an even level for a more consistent, comfortable sound, and a five-band graphic equalizer lets you tailor the sound to your preference.

Inputs include a component-video (standard-definition), an S-video, and a composite-video connection, with a .125-inch stereo headphone jack for private listening (headphones not included).

    What's in the Box
TV, stand, remote control, remote batteries, warranty information, and a user's manual.

Progressive scan displays images at double the frequency of standard TVs, minimizing flicker and making the picture easier on your eyes.
