Amazon.com Product Description

The 61" DLP TV displays a breathtaking widescreen viewing area that is elegantly framed in an ultra-light, thin-bezel cabinet. Weighing about 80 pounds and only 19.4 inches deep, it fits almost anywhere. You will experience perfect vision: Samsung’s DLP projection TV delivers unmatched brightness, contrast levels, and color accuracy, plus full digital convergence and a host of top-notch features. Its sleek design and lightweight construction also make this monitor possibly the most attractive and versatile TV your home has ever seen.

HDTV with DLP technology
Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology is found in leading digital cinemas the world over. The heart of DLP technology is a micro-display panel no larger than a postage stamp, which integrates 921,600 microscopic mirrors to deliver eye-popping, high-definition detail, color, and clarity. Samsung applies the magic of DLP technology to your home theater via its patented, compact optical engine that replaces the large, heavy picture tubes found in direct-view sets. Best of all, Samsung DLP projection TVs are lighter, more affordable, and use far less power than plasma TVs. Now you can enjoy the spine-tingling thrills of digital television in a sleek, tabletop design that’s significantly smaller, lighter, and brighter than a conventional projection TV. Samsung’s advanced convergence technologies also make DLP projection TVs compatible with your HDTV tuner, PC, DVD, game console, VCR, camcorder, digital camera, and much more.

Samsung optical engine
Samsung’s patented optical engine ensures maximum brightness, flicker-free video, detailed text, and still images, and a full 160-degree viewing angle. DLP micro-display technology and Samsung’s proprietary Bent Light Lens System give you a big-screen TV without the big-screen hassle. Its ultra-slim, ultra-lightweight design lets you put it virtually anywhere. And its optical engine is durable, long-lasting, and never needs calibrating.

Digital perfection
DLP technology is the only display solution that enables projection systems to create a purely digital connection between a digital video or graphic source and the screen in front of you. The surface of the DLP panel is covered with almost a million micro-mirrors (1280 x 720) that act as pixels. This incredibly high pixel count creates a striking, digital image with seamless resolution, amazing detail, and brilliant, lifelike colors. And because the pixels are less than one micron apart, you won’t notice the "screen door" effect apparent with other TVs.

Ultra-smooth action
Samsung’s DLP micro-mirrors can switch on and off over 5,000 times a second--that’s up to 10 times faster than other micro-displays. This allows DLP Projection TV to smoothly and accurately display fast-switching content like HDTV and DVD.

Brighter and clearer
At 400 cd/m2, DLP outshines other micro-display technologies for a bright, clear picture, with incredible contrast and color accuracy. Its unique optical engine preserves the intensity of the original image with vibrant colors and rich, deep blacks. Its high, 1000:1 contrast ratio makes for ideal color separation and crisp, detailed images. That’s why Samsung's DLP projection TV is perfect for any source material that demands minute detail, such as HDTV, computer images, and DVDs.

Consistent screen image
The DLP projection TV is much more durable than competing technologies because the display doesn’t physically age or deteriorate. Its ultra-high-pressure lamp delivers consistent light output and picture quality throughout its long lifespan.

Cinema progressive scan and 3:2 pulldown
The cinema progressive scan enhancement automatically upconverts all nondigital signals to a smooth, clear 720 lines of progressive scan. The 3:2 pulldown feature is a must for any movie enthusiast. It analyzes each frame of video, removing unclear frames that were added during the transfer from film to video. These added frames cause blurring, stuttering, and other motion artifacts, especially during fast-action sequences. 3:2 pulldown eliminates them and gives your DVDs a look and feel that’s much closer to film. Cinema progressive scan with 3:2 pulldown is powered by Faroudja’s patented DCDi video processing on Samsung DLP projection TVs.

1280 x 720 progressive display quality
Samsung delivers flicker-free, static images, thanks to its all-format conversion system. Progressive scan is a must for rock-steady text, still images, and smooth action sequences.

Wide viewing angle
Left side, right side, or upside-down--whatever your location, Samsung DLP projection TVs allow you to see any display clearly, thanks to its 160-degree-wide viewing angle. Unlike traditional projection TVs, the image doesn’t get darker as you move away from the center.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great TV , but buy the extended warranty
Firstly, I love the TV. I bought it because I wanted good contrast, bright colors, and no burn-in (I play a lot of X-Box games) and it delivers all those. But I'm giving it only three stars because it's just not very reliable.
- it is incredibly sensitive to signal quality. I have digital cable; there was heavy snow on many channels and I was getting dropouts - the channel suddenly missing - on the others. The cable company diagnosed a bad ground line, replaced it, and everything was fine. But during the entire time, my spare TV (CRT) looked perfectly fine - no snow, no dropout. So it's this TV that's sensitive.
- It needs a lot of service. It blew the lamp (a $239 dollar part) after three months, the color wheel after six, and now, at 11 months, it's just blown the lamp again. I'm about to get a warranty replacement of the whole light engine.I am kicking myself for not buying a 3-year extended warranty from the dealer.

And just as a FYI, I bought Samsungs HDTV DVD player and use the DVI conenction and the picture quality is awesome.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best BANG for your HDTV Dollar.
I've had this set for 8 months now and I am still impressed with it's performance. I did allot of research before deciding which set would be my first HDTV. After weighing all of the pluses and minuses (for me) the Samsung DLP's came out on top.
No burn-in means you can watch your standard definition (SD) programs in their normal 4:3 aspect ratio (no need too stretch the picture). You could leave a static image on the TV 24/7 and it will not affect the screen. Also DLP's are not affected by magnetic fields, which means you can put non-shielded speakers right next to them. I would highly recommend a DVD player with a DVI output (like the Bravo D1 or Samsung's 931 ) which will provied the best possible picture with these TV's (I've run some tests). Be aware that with DLP's the better the source the better the picture. Now I'm not talking about high dollar cables (a $25 DVI cable will perform the same as a $100 one), what I mean is High Definition programming looks spectacular as do DVD's through a DVI enabled DVD player, but SD programming can look anywhere from good to preety bad. Very happy with my decision.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great TV - make sure to get HD TV service at the same time
The TV is great but you do need HD TV service, either from satellite, off the air, or cable, to really appreciate how good the quality is.

The TV arrived a couple of days before the cable folks came by, so all I had was my progressive DVD, which was a bit disappointing.

I also use it for my X Box and the quality of the games that are HD ready is amazing

1-0 out of 5 stars Can't play video games
Everyone talks about how beautiful the graphics are on these tvs. Get an xbox with component output and you're in Halo Heaven. Try playing MVP Baseball or Top Spin on these pieces of junk. You'll find that the video and audio delay is too much to handle. Try swinging at a 95 MPH fastball and you'll find that the ball is in the catcher's mit before you even start to swing. Turns out that these digital displays require more video processing time. So they decide to delay the audio to match. Unfortunately all video gamers must now suffer from this. Any game that requires quick reaction time like stopping a moving line at a certain point on a bar is impossible. It's really sad that something this serious is often overlooked. I took my xbox to a circuit city and tried it on all the digital displays. They all had the same poor result. I try it on a cheap $200 tube tv and it's perfect. Not many people know about this, at least nobody I've talked to. So keep this delay in mind.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best HDTVs on the market
This is the second HDTV that I own (the first is a "normal" flat screen 36" Panasonic). I did a fair amount of reserach comparing this DLP TV with the Plasma and LCD types.

In side-by-side comparisons, I found the DLP to have sharp crisp images with deep saturated colors equal to the best Velvia slides. The TV is light enough for one person to move around (less than 100 lbs compared to 300 lbs for my 36" TV) and one can view the picture at angles of about 120 degrees.

I connected my DLP TV to a surround sound system (5.1 - 5 Klipsch speakers plus a Velodyne sub-woofer) and it works well right out of the box. Unlike the statements of one other reviewer, I have found absolutely no advantage to using monster cable (in fact I have engineer friends who work for some of the leading audio speaker companies who assure me that regular speaker wire can more than handle the miniscule amount of electric current that is flowing through speaker wire) and you don't need the services of any professional to hook-up or use this TV.

I have cable TV with an HDTV receiver. One minor quibble is that when you connect it using the component inputs, you lose the ability to zoom in - the only choices being the regular TV format or the letterbox.

I have had my TV for about one year now and use it for several hours every day. I have not had any trouble with it, the original lamp is working just fine and I have not purchased an extended warranty (with no regrets). For the price difference between this one and plasma or LCD TVs (the Sony WEGA LCD is a projection TV and not a true LCD) of several thousand dollars, this decision was a no-brainer - I would strongly recommend the DLP as one of the best on the market. ... 64. Samsung HLN567W Tantus 56" DLP Widescreen Projection HDTV

Asin: B0000A2UAG
Catlog: CE

Amazon.com Product Description

Samsung's DLP-based HLN567W projection television will thrill you with its amazingly slender 18.2-inch profile and huge, 56-inch display, whose widescreen format is specially configured to accommodate the native aspect ratios of favorite movies. Its small size and relatively light weight (under 95 pounds) free you to try it out in different parts of your home before settling on the spot that's right.

This isn't a garden-variety projection set. DLP, or Digital Light Processing technology (developed by Texas Instruments) allows purely digital connections between video sources and the projection system in front of you. The HLN567W uses a second-generation (HD-2) DMD Chip, which--combined with Samsung's light-processing optics--results in clear, bright, high-contrast images. Further, the DLP panel is insusceptible to the damaging effects of heat, humidity, vibration, or aging, so burn-in will never be an issue--all the more reason to make your TV double as a computer monitor. Hang it, mount it, or place it on a stand.

And, when you're ready to take on the world of high-definition television, just add a HD satellite/off-air receiver or an HDTV tuner to enjoy full-quality digital HDTV broadcast programming--the set features a DVI-HDTV interface to establish a direct, premium-quality digital connection with your DTV receiver.

Samsung's DNIe Video Enhancer (or Digital Natural Image engine) enhances all analog NTSC and wideband video inputs for an overall improvement in picture quality. DNIe improves contrast, white level, and picture detail, incorporating digital noise reduction to improve low-quality video sources. The set's Automatic Digital Format Conversion System is compatible with 1080i and 720p HDTV, 480P EDTV, and 480i SDTV formats. The system accepts any DTV, analog TV, or XGA computer RGB input. All video signals are converted to a progressive-scanned 16:9 widescreen pixel count (1,280 x 720 resolution).

Faroudja Film Mode 3:2 pulldown detection renders DVD movies in their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.

Samsung's HD Ultra-Fine Pitch screen further improves picture clarity, especially when viewing higher-definition video sources like DVD and HDTV. The .155 mm screen brings out subtle image details otherwise unnoticeable on standard .72 mm pitch screens.

A total of 13 video inputs handles more than just about any set we've seen and includes the DVI input mentioned above, a PC input (D-Sub 15 pin, XGA), three each composite-video and S-video inputs, two high-definition component-video inputs, a DVD-specific input that handles 480i/p outputs, and two standard RF inputs (for VCRs and cable boxes). You can assign picture-format sizes to each video input; the remote's "aspect" button toggles through the set's five options: zoom 1, zoom 2, wide, panorama, and normal (the TV retains the last format setting for each input); and all onscreen information and menus appear in translucent overlays, letting you view video programs in the background while you consult the setup menus.

The 15-watt-per-channel stereo audio system benefits from BBE High-Definition Sound with a five-band equalizer, which enhances the sound from both movies and music programs. The Sound Mode Preset feature gives you dynamic sound settings for whatever you're watching--choose from standard, music, movie, speech, or custom, while Virtual Dolby simulates an exciting surround effect from any two speakers.

Amazon.com Product Description

Samsung invites you to experience the world of digital television on its SPL4225K widescreen plasma television. The SPL4225K's brilliant picture and stunning design will instantly transform anyone into a space-conscious technophile. The plasma monitor can be mounted on a wall or placed on a table-top stand that also permits placement on a shelf or wall fixture. Adding to its "picture frame TV" appeal, the monitor is just under 4 inches deep and weighs less than 90 pounds. Whether you're attracted by its slim, light design, its placement flexibility, or its "cool factor," the SPL4225K is the perfect consideration for framing all your favorite TV and video programming choices.

PDP (plasma display panel) technology combines flat-matrix pixel imaging and RGB color phosphors in a thin, lightweight housing. Plasma describes the temporary conductive state of the low-pressure gas used in these panels. The set's totally flat image area results in virtually no distortions generated by the glass surface of the plasma TV module, which is flat on both sides. Samsung Digital ProPicture provides superior conversion of all input signals to achieve a high-quality progressive-scan picture. Advanced noise reduction, detail, and contrast enhancement also help deliver a stunning and clear natural picture.

Auto pixel shift greatly reduces screen aging irregularities caused by bright still images and varying screen-size formats that don't fill the screen. Variable screen size selection accommodates different video format screen sizes, offering a selection of two zoom modes, a wide mode, panoramic (for encoded video), and a normal mode. A built-in 7-watt stereo amplifier powers optional and attachable speakers. ... Read more

Breathe widescreen life into your favorite movies with a big-screen set that won't eat your living room. Samsung's 43-inch HLN467W uses a compact digital projector powered by a single, second-generation digital micromirror device (DMD) that generates brilliant, high-definition video images from a TV housing barely 16 inches deep. Its PC input makes it perfect for both home theater and computer use, and you get 12 additional inputs for all your current and future HD and SD (standard-definition) equipment.

What is DLP?
The DLP processor DLP, or Digital Light Processing, is a technologythat bounces a colored light beam across an array of hundreds of thousandsof hinge-mounted microscopic mirrors attached to a single chip, called a"micro mirror device" (below, pictured with the head of a pin).
DLP mirrors dwarfed by the head of a pin
Each of the mirrors can be pointed toward or away from the light sourcethousands of times per second, providing not only minute color detail butalso sharper resolution than even LCD displays.
Detail of resolution comparison between LCD and DLP
Looking under the hood, so to speak, the HLN467W creates its images using proprietary digital light processing (DLP) techniques and an array of optics. Its fully digital video design processes--combined with Samsung's DNIe video enhancer--optimizes all analog NTSC and wideband sources, whether VCR, DVD player, camcorder, or TV programming from digital satellite receivers and HDTV tuners. Onboard digital format conversion works with 1080i and 720p HDTV formats, 480p EDTV, and 480i SDTV formats. The system accepts any DTV, analog TV, or XGA computer RGB input. All video signals are converted to a progressive-scan, 16:9 widescreen pixel count (1,280 x 720) for seamless, flicker-free images.

DLP (Digital Light Processing) technology from Texas Instruments is the only display that creates a purely digital connection between a digital video or graphic source and the screen before you. Samsung's DNIe Video Enhancer (or Digital Natural Image) improves all analog NTSC and wideband video inputs. DNIe enhances contrast, white level, and picture detail and incorporates a digital noise reduction to improve lower-quality video.

A DVI interface brings compatibility with digital feeds from the latest-generation cable, satellite, and off-air high-definition receivers for a pure digital picture. The HLN467W also accommodates a computer, with no burn-in or screen-aging issues to worry about. Hang it, mount it, rest it on a stand or wall-unit, and simply move it anywhere--its size and weight allow greater placement possibilities than any other TV design.

Faroudja Film Mode 3:2 pulldown correction senses motion found in unconverted 480i DVD video based on 24 fps film productions, especially important when converting to a progressive video image. The result is an elimination of visible motion artifacts. (This feature is by-passed on 480p, 720p, and 1080i inputs.) Two-tuner PIP with side-by-side split screen enables convenient simultaneous viewing of two TV programs on the TV screen.

The set's 30-watt stereo audio system and two-way speakers offer high-quality audio, while BBE High-Definition Sound processing improves the clarity of live recorded audio programming, soundtracks, and music. The set offers five remote-selectable audio modes for sports, movies, music, speech, and user-defined settings.

The supplied universal remote control operates the TV, DVD, VCR, and a cable box, and V-Chip enables parental control for channel and program blocking of TV programs that incorporate the rating code signal.

Dual HDTV component-video inputs accommodate HD satellite receivers, HDTV tuners, and HD cable boxes that feature component-video outputs (Y, Pb, Pr). These inputs accept 480p, 720p, and 1080i signals. A dedicated DVD component-video input auto-detects 480i or 480 progressive-scan DVD signals. The set also offers three each composite- and S-video inputs and an RF output for use with a DVR or VCR.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Nice TV!
I bought this through my wife's employee discount (She worked at Samsung until last week). I am very impressed with the picture quality though I am only getting over the air signals. Hooked up DVD via component video and the picture quality is impressive. You have many connection options (currently I do not even have that many components). I will try hooking up my PC. Did a lot of research (Extreme Tech and PCNet). I read that some people were disapointed w/ picture quality of regular cable or digital signals. I am not sure what they were expecting. As this is HD ready TV, it truely shines when watching HD broadcasts (according to all reviewers). Personally, I will wait until quality is improved on HD receivers before I go out and buy one- read many complaints of various devices on HD Net.

No complaints. No noticeable annoying fan noise as some had mentioned. Excellent design, slim and light, and outstanding picture quality. Very happy w. our choice. ... Read more

67. Samsung PPM42S3 42" Flat-Panel Plasma Monitor

(price subject to change: see help)
Asin: B0000AQH13
Catlog: CE
Manufacturer: Samsung
Sales Rank: 20928

Amazon.com Product Description

Samsung's svelte black PPM42S3 features a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio, 852 x 480 native pixel resolution, and sophisticated plasma technology--all of which adds up to exciting home theater or vivid professional presentations. Samsung's exclusive Digital Natural Image enhancement technology (DNIe) improves every image on every level, ensuring outstanding image detail, contrast, color, and motion. The PPM42S3 does not have a built-in NTSC or ATSC tuner, so you'll need to use an outboard tuner (such as found in a DVR or VCR) if you want to view cable or television programming.

This is an EDTV monitor, which means it's a step closer to high-definition or HDTV than standard displays. When used with a progressive-scan DVD player or high-definition DTV set-top box you'll get seamless, razor-sharp images from your favorite movies and concert videos. The display accepts full 720p/1080i HDTV inputs and scales them for 480p viewing.

With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the big-screen PPM42S3 is a mere 3.1 inches deep, perfect for desk or wall mounting. Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems. You do, however, need to be wary of image burn-in (wherein long-held stationary images leave a permanent impression in the screen), though this set does use special technology to prevent burn-in.

The PPM42S3 features a Digital Visual Interface (DVI) for a pure, lossless connection with a DTV set-top receiver or other compatible device. It also offers 2 HD component-video inputs and 1 each standard composite- and S-video jacks. A pair of RS232C jacks (1 in, 1 out) assist in integrating the monitor with other equipment.

Amazon.com Product Description

Samsung's sleek, Premiere Series TXN2670WHF offers everything from high-definition resolution (1080i/480p) to a multitude of inputs and picture enhancements for a detailed, high-contrast picture. The set's widescreen display is specially configured to accommodate the native aspect ratios of your favorite movies, and front-panel control keys let you access TV menu settings without having to use the supplied remote control.

For the screen, Samsung's proprietary DynaFlat technology delivers a perfectly flat viewing surface with none of the curvature, image distortion, or detrimental glare that accompany traditional TV screens. Hook the set up with any DTV set-top box or progressive-scan DVD player to take full advantage of its high resolution and picture-enhancing technologies.

This particular 800-line screen brings higher resolution than that achieved by earlier-generation sets because the individual phosphor color spots (or pixels) are smaller and closer together in this configuration. The set's multiple-focus electron gun illuminates finer spots for a more detailed picture, edge-to-edge, and it's assisted in this job by a three-line digital comb filter and velocity-scan modulation circuitry.

Velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.

Another set of image improvements is wrapped into Samsung's Pro Picture three-stage video correction: Total DSP (Digital Signal Processing), Pro Chip Plus (converts all interlaced analog signals to superior, flicker-free progressive scan images), and the above-mentioned three-line digital comb filter (which analyzes multiple lines of picture information to better minimize edge image artifacts while improving transition detail).

A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. An Invar mask uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing in a brighter, clearer picture.

The TXN2670WHF performs 3:2 pulldown detection, a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.

Connections include a component-video input, an S-video input, a trio of composite-video inputs (with accompanying stereo analog RCA audio inputs), an RF input (for VCR or cable box), and a set of audio/video outputs for feeding a DVR or VCR. Convenient side-panel audio/video inputs foster hookups with camcorders and gaming consoles while preserving the set's uncluttered silver front panel.

A zoom screen-filling option lets you customize the view of letter-boxed DVDs from the supplied remote control, while screen-capture picture freezing lets you view still images, even with broadcast television. Convenient side-panel buttons let you configure the set and access its menus without having to use the remote.

The TXN2670WHF's 15 watts per channel (x 2) ensures sonic clarity and an ability to play loudly. Several sound modes offer dynamic audio settings for whatever you're watching; choose from standard, music, movie, speech, or custom. Surround-sound mode simulates an exciting surround effect from any two speakers, and a side-panel headphone jack allows private listening (headphones not included).

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Television
This HDTV is amazing. My games and movies look so crisp on it. It's a good television for your room, or even family room. It's not overwhelmingly big, so it's nice for your bedroom. It's got 2 component video hookups in the back. It also has about 3 composite hookups and a DVI hookup as well. Amazing television.

5-0 out of 5 stars great price and 2 year warranty
Great picture and great sound. Especially when you hook up a subwoofer to the set. I also purchased the optional speakers which have good overall quality. I have read some other reviews regarding some buzzing with the set but I have found that when I have hooked up the speakers there are 3 screws on the side of the set. If these are overtightened this could cause some buzzing noise. By loosening the screws you can make the buzzing go completely away. It worked on my set. hope this wil help if you get some buzzing on you sets enjoy

5-0 out of 5 stars Bright and Bold
I purchased this Plasma for a friend and have had it in my home for 2 weeks. I too have looked at many plasmas in the stores and compared. I have to say this one has a beautiful picture. Compared to true HDTV plasmas in the store, this EDTV has a great picture. It is hard to spend the extra money for subtle differences that are hard to see even side-by-side. Most of our viewing is cable or DVD movies so I can't rationalize the extra money. Even with a cable input, the picture is great. It is clear and has little "noise" or "graininess" considering it is a cable signal. Friends come over and remark what a great picture.

Internal amp for speakers is fine. The Virtual Dolby does give good impact to the 2 speaker sound. For DVD's I use my separate surround sound system. One thing Samsung forgot on this model are audio output jacks to connect internal tuner sound to your surround sound system. So many other inputs, I don't know why they forgot those outputs.

This is one of the few Plasmas that comes with a 2 year warrenty in home! The appearance of the TV is perfect in our home and looks great on or off. We are likeing it soo much, I will probably buy one for myself now that I have seen and used it my home.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent As good as I expected
I was considering (having narrowed it to) a couple of different well known brands in the six thousand dollar price range. Having started out leaning towards the bigger name brands the service tech did a fine job trying to keep me in the higher priced models. I'm not sure who wore who out. As I read more about the different models I found them to be very similar in their offerings, however, I kept leaning towards not what the descriptions said, but where I felt it mattered most, in the visual presentation of the picture I saw. I also found that visual presentation to be equally as personal. I asked others (in the showroom) their opinion and no surprise, I got as many differences as there were people. For example, I viewed some that looked to be naturally lighter and some darker and some with the hues more sedate than others that were more brilliant. We all saw them differently, yet the specs were all the same. My decision to buy this Samsung plasma screen wasn't scientific, I bought it because I've had great success with Samsung products in the past and I found the picture to be as pleasing as the more expensive models. With the money I saved, I upgraded to the Bose audio system and still had plenty of money left to buy DVDs and the popcorn to go with them. I would strongly recommend this plasma screen and feel confident that you made the right decision. PS, don't let those clerks up-sell you, let your eye decide, after all it's you that will be watching it! ... Read more

The stylish set is ideal for computing, TV watching, or movie watching, and luckily it's got enough inputs to handle all three. The flat-panel LCD TV offers a native image resolution of 1,280 x 720, enhanced by a high (500:1) contrast ratio, impressive peak brightness of 450 candles/square meter, and wide 170-degree viewing angles so everyone in the room can see it. When used with an optional DTV receiver, it accepts full-resolution HDTV signals, including 720p and 1080i (1080i signals are scaled to fit the set's native resolution).

Set it on a table, counter, or desktop using the supplied swivel base, or mount it on the wall, picture-style. The television sports stereo speakers with 7 watts audio power per channel, and a dedicated monaural RCA subwoofer output facilitates hookup with a powered subwoofer (optional). The set's 3D Y/C digital comb filter enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

For connections, the set offers two component-video inputs--one for standard-definition interlaced signals and one capable of full HD (480p/720p/1080i) signals--and one each composite-video, S-video, and standard RF (for older VCRs and cable boxes). This TV is amazing. Its less than 3 inches thick and perfectly built. All quality, all top of the line. The remote sucks but once you turn on the tv you dont care anymore. HDTV is crystal clear, itll blow your socks off. Dvd's on progressive scan look great, but digital tv is a just little fuzzy but you learn to deal with it, because HD and Dvd are superb. you wont be dissapointed if you buy this.

The sound is great with virtual DOLoby Surround sound all you have to do is connect a subwoofer and your good to go. The LCD is rich in featurs and conections. With DNIe technology that helps diliver the great images. The DVi, 2 component and Composite, + one s video inputs, and a subwoofer input. You will have a place to put every ELectonic device into the TV. The other way this TV shines is in its video game support. 5-0 out of 5 stars Whats not to love?
My first review of this TV was a bit hasty. Not only did I not know what I was doing, I didn't know What I was talking about. NBC and CBS broadcast in 1080i and ABC in 720p. Fox has never been HDTV, with their resolution topping out at 480p. This TV works best when switched into Progressive mode (Wether on the Set Top Box or DVD player). I love it now, that I fixed the interleced problem. ... Read more

Samsung's DLP-based HLN4365W projection television will thrill you with its amazingly slender 15-inch profile and broad, 43-inch display, whose widescreen format is specially configured to accommodate the native aspect ratios of favorite movies. Its small size and relatively light weight (under 70 pounds) free you to try it out in different parts of a home before settling on the spot that's right for you.

This isn't a garden-variety projection set. DLP, or Digital Light Processing technology (developed by Texas Instruments) allows purely digital connections between video sources and the projection system in front of you. The HLN4365W uses a second-generation (HD-2) DMD Chip, which--combined with Samsung's light-processing optics--results in clear, bright, high-contrast images. Further, the DLP panel is insusceptible to the damaging effects of heat, humidity, vibration, or aging, so burn-in will never be an issue--all the more reason to make this TV double as a computer monitor. Hang it, mount it, or place it on a stand.

And, when you're ready to take on the world of high-definition television, just add a HD satellite/off-air receiver or an HDTV tuner to enjoy full-quality digital HDTV broadcast programming--the set features a DVI-HDTV interface so you can establish a direct, premium-quality digital connection with your DTV receiver.

Film Mode 3:2 pulldown detection renders DVD movies in their native 24-frame format.

You can assign picture-format sizes to each video input; the remote's "aspect" button toggles through the set's five options: zoom 1, zoom 2, wide, panorama, and normal (the TV retains the last format setting for each input); and all onscreen information and menus appear in translucent overlays, letting you view video programs in the background while consulting the setup menus.

The 15-watt-per-channel stereo audio system benefits from BBE Sound with a five-band equalizer, which enhances the sound from both movies and music programs. The Sound Mode Preset feature provides dynamic sound settings for whatever you're watching--choose from standard, music, movie, speech, or custom.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hay dudes go for this one and stop wasting your time
I just purchased this product and had some concern because of a couple of the ratings given. After a couple of days rerunning wires from my DVD, VCR, Audio System and of course the most important thing of all my HD cable box, I was in a New World of TV enjoyment. The key is that everything from TV is not HD compatible yet, but there are channels out there to get you through the night. This product provides you with great bravado. I'm not going to go through a lot of tech stuff to justify what I see, but if you want what you see and hear about in adds about really feeling like you are looking through a window, this is the way to go. Hay dudes go for this one and stop wasting your time looking.

PS
Yes I did research which included a number of testimonials.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome TV!
OK, OK, it's spendy.. but this is clearly not a must-have item for any household, it's a luxury! As far as luxuries go, this is one of the best and most affordable considering what you get.

I love the fact that this TV only weighs 60ish pounds. I've had to move it a number of times as I've been hooking up peripheral devices, and the light weight of the TV is appreciated!

Also love the fact that, unlike other widescreen projection TV's, the DLP technology assures there will never be tube or burn-in issues. Since much of the TV we all watch is not broadcast in widescreen, viewing in 4:3 is required if you don't want to add 20 pounds to every actor/actress (well, that might not be all that bad these days..) or stretch scenery to where it looks unnatural.

DVD's look AMAZING, especially if you have a DVD player with a DVI output. Samsung makes and Amazon sells one and I can't recommend it enough.

Long story short - this is an expensive TV but the light weight and the outstanding picture quality (esp from a distance of ~10 feet) make it worth the purchase. You won't be disappointed!

5-0 out of 5 stars highly dependent on source quality
To get the best from this TV you MUST feed it a good quality signal. The best way to connect this set to any source is via the DVI connector. An HD signal from DirecTV or a DVD played on a HTPC (Home Theater PC) looks absolutely stunning. On some of the standard definition channels that have a lot of compression, you will see flaws in the picture because the TV is quite revealing (almost ruthlessly so). Also, the picture is spectacularly bright, so viewing in a well lit room is no problem.

5-0 out of 5 stars HD Cable on DLP
I previously reviewed my HLN4365W set with the Samsumg DVD player using DVI output, and normal TV. I now have HD digital cable and want update the review. HDTV comes in two aspect ratios, normal and widescreen. Some of your favorite network shows will be in HD but normal aspect ratio - hence the black bars on each side. Increasingly, top network offerings are delivered in HD widescreen filling the entire HDTV screen. The quality of these pictures is superb, surpassing that seen with the best DVD source. I find myself selecting programs based as much on picture quality as content. In short, this TV will not dissapoint whether the source is DVD or HDTV.

4-0 out of 5 stars picture tilt
Letters move downward from the bottom right to the bottom left and I understand this is picture tilt. Samsung technicians tell me that this shold not happen with this television set (HLN4365W). I am in the process of trying to get the picture adjusted, but to no satisfaction to date. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not very good
I don't like this TV as the sound is pretty bad and the screen can't be made to set straight up--tilted backward. Speakers weak and not clear. Need improvement. It seems the 1735 is much better though less expensive.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Product for the Den or Kitchen Corner
After looking at comparable models from Sharp, Phillips, Sony, and others we settled on the Samsung LTN 1785W. It is sitting on a credenza in the breakfast nook off the kitchen and fits very nicely on the counter and under the china cabinets. The screen is plenty bright enough for full daylight viewing. This was important to us, as the area has a lot of natural light from windows and a skylight. The picture is very clear and sharp. The options available for picture, color and sound adjustment are simple and effective. I added the HDTV box yesterday and the added clarity is quite astounding. As noted in another review I would rate the sound quality as acceptable, but not outstanding. The Dolby 5.1 added with HDTV helps.

I note this set is list priced (currently) at about $999, but we got it for over $100 less by shopping around, then got $100 cable credit from Comcast and Samsung on a special offer. So, while initially pricey for a 17 inch set, the net cost was quite reasonable for this quality HDTV ready widescreen set.

3-0 out of 5 stars Sound shortcomings
This TV is a decent device but a little overpriced for what you get.

My number one gripe with this TV has to do with the sound quality. The standard built-in speaker does not offer the clarity and crispness of the ordinary 10 year-old tube TV that it replaced.

The other annoyance has to do with the short muscial tone it plays every time the TV is turned on or off. It gets old fast.

My third peeve is with the monitor's on/off indicator light. When the TV is turned off, a red LED light glows red, and when the TV is on, the LED light disappears which is the total opposite way that I would have designed it to function.

On other hand, the picture quality for regular cable-TV channels/broadcast TV is good to very good, depending on the channel.

The HDTV option is a little awkward to work and not worth the trouble due to the limited number of HDTV channels available in NYC.

Bottom line, is I love the thinness of the TV but the speaker system needs improvement.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hidden costs of the wide screen
Don't take me wrong - this TV is the great product. I use it in the kitchen, as everyone else. The picture is sharper and the colors are truer (in comparison, say, to LTM1755, which I owned briefly). But when I connected it to the old DirecTV receiver, the picture came out extended. So, I had to update the receiver, get cables (because this piece does not come with them), etc. If you want to use it mostly for watching non-HDTV programs in non-wide-screen format - don't get this monitor. Get Sharp instead it's less fussy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good so far !
I got my Samsung LTN1785W 2 days ago and so far it is a great TV. I saved space on my office table and the picture is very good so far. I have to connected any component so far but with normal cable it is fine. I will tell you more after I play so more with it ! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Feature Rich, Poor Quality
I bought this television and took it back a week later. There was a bow in the lower third of the screen where one would expect straight horizontal lines. Additionally, when the screen was supposed to be fading to black, 3-4 inch wide dark black stripes appeard on the screen with a charcoal black color in between. In other words, the blacks are not consistent. I thought this was the best buy given the number of component inputs, HD ready, flat screen, etc.. and I got burned. Atleast I got my money back. Now I don't know what to buy. Thinking about the Hitachi but there seem to be people not happy with thise as well. Sony is the answer bu tnot sure I want to spend the extra buckx. I may just wait until later this fall (2002) to see what else becomes avail and buy a 27 inch for $400 until then at which time I can upgade the 13" in the br with the 27. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Totally happy
I was ready for a new TV for my rec room and didn't want to by an analog set that would be outdated in a few years. The Samsung was by far the best deal for the money. The picture is fabuous, particuarly with DVD's. I can't wait till the price of the digital tuners comes down a bit. I'm really looking forward to using this for HDTV broadcasts!

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good, Reliable Place to Start -- If You Want to Start!!!
Let's start by saying that I come from a family that likes to try new, likely durable changes in electronics early on. TVs are an example: first B/W 1948; color 1958; stereo 1st year available; etc. So, when this relatively inexpensive flat-screen HDTV came along, it seemed to offer a good way to sample the current state of an evolving technology without having to lay out a lot of cash for something that would rapidly become obsolete. For the sake of fairness, I'll compare it to the conventional stereo 27" RCA that it supplanted. First off, the colors are much more crisp and the outlines and perspective much better defined. This is most apparent for DVD and VCR viewing --less so with cable. You can take this as either a plus or a minus: Yes, you get better clarity, but you also have to suspend your disbelief more. The fact that backgrounds have been overdubbed and the limitations of computer-generated imagry (especially when living beings are in the same frame) become much more apparent than on good old, fuzzier, conventional TV. It is a trade-off, but something that we all can (and, likely will have to) get used to. The stereo (without adding external speakers) is clearly superior to the conventional stereo TV. The HDTV unit is a bit more bulky (wider & deeper at the back). 27" is as small as you can (& should) get with the current technology before distortion at the edges and picture size become an issue: The latter is especially apparent because the HDTV screen is more rectangular -- making everything letter-boxed (and things that have been letter-boxed are even more so). This unit has performed well for the 3 weeks that we've had it. Its operation is simple; the enclosed remote is user-friendly; the TV is compatable with current DVD & VHS players and with cable and existing universal remotes. We'll see about durability; but there's no reason to suspect that it would be predisposed to any more problems than any other TV. So the real issue is whether it's worth paying 2 to 3-fold more for HDTV than for a conventional stereo TV of equivalent size. My advice: If you use TV primarily for cable, antenna, or dish viewing, wait until the price comes down. If you're like me, and use TV primarily for VHS and DVD viewing, the increased quality of the picture makes it worth considering -- but remember, you're more likely to notice that the chase sceens etc. are trumped up!
Addendum: I's been 3 mos. now; things are working fine, and my opinion is unchanged!

Amazon.com Product Description

Without question, Samsung's rear-projection, HD-ready HCN553W is a big TV. But the 55-inch set also saves space by housing two standard-sized home theater components behind a seamless, hinged door. The set's widescreen display is specially configured to accommodate the native aspect ratios of your favorite movies. Its dark-bezel, silver-gray cabinet makes it a great choice for stylish, big-screen entertainment in large rooms.

Whether your passion is for DVDs, sports, or movies, the HCN553W delivers high performance and convenience. Three high-resolution, 7-inch liquid-cooled CRTs power Samsung's RealFlect System Pro, delivering highly focused illumination across the entire screen through incorporated features like HD Fine Focus lenses and a high-performance HD Fine Pitch lenticular screen with anti-glare protection. PerfectFocus Pro 15-point digital focus gives you convenient picture focus at the push of a button. Samsung's Cinema Progressive Scan automatically upconverts all nondigital signals to a smooth, clear 720 lines of progressively scanned images.

An important element of Cinema Progressive Scan is 3:2 pulldown detection, which renders DVD movies in their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.

Samsung's HD Fine Pitch screen further improves picture clarity, especially when viewing higher-definition video sources like DVD and HDTV. The fine-pitch, .52 mm screen brings out subtle image details otherwise unnoticeable on standard .72 mm pitch screens. Samsung's Auto PerfectFocus auto-convergence system corrects picture focus at the push of a button. All onscreen information and menus appear in translucent overlays, letting you view video programs in the background while you consult the setup menus.

A total of 11 video inputs handles more than most of the sets out there and includes the DVI input mentioned above, three each composite-video and high-definition component-video inputs, two S-video inputs, and two standard RF inputs (for VCRs and cable boxes).

The set's two-tuner picture-in-picture with stock-ticker modes lets you monitor up to 13 different channels simultaneously. Stock-ticker mode places the lower one-fifth of the screen of one channel into another channel so you can viewing streaming text beneath the program of your choice.

The 15-watt-per-channel stereo audio system benefits from BBE Sound with a five-band equalizer, which is designed to enhance the sound from movies and music programs alike. Sound Mode Preset gives you the best dynamic sound settings for whatever you're watching. Choose from standard, music, movie, speech, or custom.

Amazon.com Product Description

Big and wide is the way to go for home theater, and Samsung's 32-inch-diagonal DynaFlat widescreen TXM3298HF fills the bill. The high-definition ready set (480p/1080i) comes loaded with a host of high-tech image enhancements, including a flat, anti-distortion/anti-glare CRT, Invar Shadow Mask (an alloy material that increases focus and brightness without sacrificing color purity), and Samsung's ProPicture 3-Stage Video Enhancement.

ProPicture enhancement enfolds three different features. Total DSP (Digital Signal Processing) converts standard analog TV signals to digital, compensating for varying signal strengths in the process. Pro Chip Plus Natural Scan Line Doubling converts NTSC signals to 480p, dramatically improving any video source to 480p progressive picture quality. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

Three-line comb-filter technology enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

Another picture enhancement is velocity-scan modulation, which improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.

The set pumps out stereo audio with 10 watts per channel and also includes a 25-watt powered subwoofer in the rear of the cabinet for deep, rich bass. Two sets of HD component-video 1080i/480p/480i jacks foster hookup with a DTV set-top box and a progressive-scan DVD player, while standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodate all DVD players. One side and 3 rear audio/video inputs accommodate your other entertainment equipment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent TV for the money
I've had this TV now for about 6 mos. and am very happy with it. However, I also bought the Samsung HD TS160 Directv converter and realized once I got it home that the TV did not have DVI (HDCP) input and was very disappointed. However, I got the TV for a very good price here at Amazon and can't complain. It was my fault I did not look for that interface on the TV and believe me I really did a lot of research. The one other thing I wish this had was the capability, ala Sony, to detect automatically and change from 16:9 to 4:3 or vica versa on it's own. Other than this, the picture is excellent, I mean really, really nice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic set. Great picture, awesome value.
The Samsung TXM3298HF is a true winner in every regard. I spent weeks looking at televisions of every make and model in electronics stores all over town, and the Samsung came out on top in both picture quality and price. Compared to a 32" HDTV Sony Wega, the Samsung was just as crisp and beautiful, yet sold for hundreds less. On top of that, the Samsung was also 3 inches slimmer (depth), so if you have a tight space that requires a semi-shallow depth, yet you don't want to scrimp on screen real estate, the Samsung (which is only 22 inches deep) is the way to go. I've watched DVDs on it, and even bought a component video cable for my Nintendo GameCube, and it all looks stunning. Digital cable looks wonderful as well. Like others in these reviews, the color does take a little fiddling with to find the right setting for your environment. But once you get that right, it truly does offer a stunning, rich picture that'll leave you glued. Set also comes with tons of video / audio component inputs and outputs on the backside, plus a few handy ones on the left side in case you want to quickly plug in a DV cam or other device. The remote is easy to use and well designed, and can be programmed to handle your VCR, DVD, or Cable box. The set is heavy - at least 120lbs or so - so if you purchase one online and have it delivered, keep in mind you'll need a friend or two to pick it up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect
When I purchased this TV, I was in the market for a direct view 32" HDTV. My goal was to find the TV set with the best possible picture (for both analog cable and progressive scan DVD playback) regardless of brand name or price (in the past, I have usually bought Sony or Toshiba). After weeks of research, I narrowed the field to Sony, Toshiba and Samsung Tantus. All 3 received very good reviews from Consumer Reports and CNET, among others. All 3 were comparably priced, with the Sony being slightly higher.

In showroom viewing, all 3 TVs performed extremely well, displaying vibrants colors and sharp detail, with both cable and DVDs. They clearly stood out from the others. When properly tuned using the Avia DVD, the Samsung Tantus produced the most brilliant colors and sharpest detail. Toshiba was also excellent; its picture quality was nearly identical to that of the Samsung. The Sony was very good as well, but it seemed to fall short when displaying text; instead of the sharp, fine edges produced by the Toshiba and Samsung, the Sony produced text that was a bit pixelated and choppy.

In the final analysis, I concluded that you cannot really go wrong with any of the 3 (Samsung, Toshiba, Sony), as they are all very good TV sets. Distinguishing between these 3 sets is somewhat a matter of personal preference.

In terms of personal perference, I also took into account these additional non-picture-quality-related factors:

1) Aesthetics of the cabinet (Samsung had the coolest looking cabinet, followed by Sony, and then Toshiba). Samsung's cabinet is simple and zen-like, yet very stylish. It goes well with any decor and accompanying components.

2) Ease of use (Sony was best, then Toshiba, then Samsung). This is Samsung's biggest shortcoming. Although Samsung's on-screen menus are not difficult to use or confusing, the on-screen displays on the Sony and Toshiba required fewer steps and were more intuitive than the Samsung.

3) Remote control (again, Sony was best, then Toshiba, then Samsung).

4) Annoying "bee-bee-bop" sound when you turn on the Samsung TV. Fortunately, you CAN shut off this "feature" through an on-screen menu option. So, this is not really a factor.

5) Inputs (Sony had the most, then Samsung, then Toshiba). All 3 sets had two component inputs. Again, this was not a factor, as all 3 sets had adequate inputs.

6) Sound quality (Samsung and Sony were a notch above Toshiba). Samsung comes with excellent BBE enhanced sound as well as a subwoofer mounted inside the cabinet. It also has EQ controls (a nice touch). The Sony also had very good sound.

All in all, I am very pleased with my Samsung Tantus TV and enjoy watching it daily! Overall, I would give it an A- grade. It's almost perfect and certainly the best TV I have ever owned.

If you're in the market for a 32" HDTV, I hope the above helps you make an informed decision.

5-0 out of 5 stars beautiful monitor, great price
The samsung 3298 is our 1st HDTV, and our decision to purchase it was based on 4 things.
1. The picture is phenominal. On display in a store, side by side with the Sont XBR series, the Samsung's line doubling circutry provided a smoother, deeper, and more vibrant picture.
2. It has all the up to date features common in this category. 2 tuner PIP, a large array of inputs in the back, side inputs, and built in sub-woofer.
3. It has the sexiest cabinet, serioulsy its a beautiful HDTV.
4. Lastly, given all of the above, the Samsung 3298 is priced $200-400 less than any of its competitors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great picture, great buy
I couldn't be happier with this TV. OK maybe a little - the picture is great, the inputs are plentiful, the set-up was easy, PIP splitscreen w/ two tuners is wonderful - the only slight negative is that the TV seems bulkier than it needs to be (I have the 3297). The chirping doesn't even bother me. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
Well the title says it all. I did alot of research before buying the Samsung txn3271hf premier series 32 inch dynatflat HDTV. Cost 1000 from bestbuy, I wanted the Sony version but it was 300 dollars more. Right out of the box, it looked great but I started noticing ways they had cut corners to make the TVs so cheap. The remote was very cheaply made with minimal functions and very light weight. The visual quality was worse than even the Zenith and Advent model of the same specs. Color was bland and no amount of tweaking and configuration could adjust the picture to a satifactory setting. For 1000 dollars on a HDTV it was no better than a Sony wega analog television that is considerably cheaper at 32 inches. Even when playing DVD it wasnt that great, in fact if you inspect carefully you can see a grey bar of scan lines running across from bottom to top of screen while playing DVD which was annoying. Also on widescreen I noticed that the top and bottom border of the wide screen was not parallel to the borders of the monitor, thereby resulting in a picture that looks slightly concave. When the screen goes black I also saw bars of different shade of black on the screen which I've seen one other review of a samsung television that had the same problem.

I must admit I am very critical when it comes to eletronics. I knew what I was doing, everything was hooked up for optimal performance even with a Monster Video 3 component video cable (retail 90 dollar cable), and progressive scan DVD surround system. In the end I traded the thing in for a Sony Wega HDTV. 300 dollars more but I've never been happier. You really do get what you pay for. No point in spending 1000 on a HDTV that isnt up to HDTV standards.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best HDTV Bang for the Buck
Just got the Samsung 32" HDTV Flat Screen TV. Awesome features like the ability to adjust screen format with the remote on the fly. PIP is tremendous. Built in speaker system delivers amazing surround sound simulation for tv programs. Pause/ still feature is great. Best of all is the picture. Amazingly sharp and clear with tremendous depth and clarity. If you want a TV that's ready for HDTV when it becomes more refined and mainstream this is the one!!!!! All for under a 1,000 bucks!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Bang for the Buck
I am very impressed with this tv. As far as I could find, it is by far the cheapest 32" flat screen HDTV you can buy! The speakers sound much better than I expected. The picture on regular cable tv is great and dvds are fabulous.

I would have liked an additional audio output, but other than that I am very pleased with the purchase. ... Read more

Front-panel audio/video inputs accommodate hookups of a camcorder or gaming console, while a front-panel headphone jack grants listening privacy. The MD20FN1's FST PURE Flat picture tube widens viewing angles and heightens picture linearity relative to traditional tube designs, delivering accurate, life-like images. Its digital comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped t-shirt).

The set offers stereo sound through two front-firing, side-mounted speakers. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's coaxial digital-audio output for direct connection to an audio/video receiver.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great TV/DVD
I purchased this tv about 1-1/2 to 2 years ago and at the time it was over 400 dollars- now they lowered the price and its great deal for the quality of it. Excellent picture and very conveniant with the dvd player built in. I purchased this for the look, and mainly for the dvd built right in because it was so easy to use. It also plays cd's, dvd's, and you can hook up your gaming stuff to it. Also has spot where you can plug in headphones in the tv and listen to it that way. Great value and look- perfect size for college kids or someone who isnt looking for a huge tv or too small- its perfect size and works great, Highly recomended. 5 stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great deal for the money
I have had mine for about a month. The picture is very clear much different with a flat screen. The color is very clear and when playing a DVD the picture is excellent. Looks much better than when I used a separate DVD player. The remote control is easy to use and glows in the dark. The sound is good except for occasional changing from speaker to speaker or blank outs which may be the reception from the cable. Its a little larger than expected with the side speakers and a pretty deep unit so if you are putting it in a small space measure first. Great for the price. ... Read more
