Amazon.com Product Description

Toshiba's 32A33 is a feature-packed alternative to costlier sets. The 32-inch set offers an FST Black picture tube, stereo sound with 2.5 watts per channel, as well as a host of inputs--from standard RF (for antenna, VCR, or cable box) all the way to high-resolution component-video (for DVD players, satellite receivers, and digital video recorders).

The 32A33 offers picture-enhancing technology, too--its digital comb filter and vertical contour correction further enhance resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt). Meanwhile, advanced velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.

You get two sets of rear audio/video inputs (two composite-video inputs and one each S-video and ColorStream component-video) as well as one set of front AV inputs for easy connection with a camcorder, digital camera, or gaming console. A rear AV output lets you hook the set up with a surround receiver. The 32A33 also features V-Chip parental controls, channel lock, video lock, a sleep timer, and a glow-in-the-dark universal remote control.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice 32 inch TV for the price!
I purchased a 20 inch Toshiba about eight years ago and it is just as picture perfect as the day I brought it home. I considered buying a flat screen TV because the set faces the sun. Decided to wait for better deals on HDTVs or flat screens, but I'm perfectly happy with this model. A temporary adjustment is required to the antenna since I don't have satellite connected yet; the picture is a little grainy if you don't adjust the dial on the antenna. Once it's tuned, the color is very bold and the sound has good quality. DVD movies are awesome! Toshiba is an excellent manufacturer. Found very good deal on this purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars 32in.Toshiba round screen tv.
When I first purchased my toshiba tv I kind of knew what to expect, But when I first turned it on I was blown away, The colors was excellent, The picture was bright and clear without being blinding as some tvs are,The black level balances very well with the rest of the picture without giving the picture a murky look. So with a few small adjustments for my living room it was great. The sound was pure and clean and projects across the room very well, Even at higher volume levels the sound remains crisp and clear. For someone on a small budget this tv is priced at a good price too.I compared many brands(rca.jvc.sony)and they are all good tvs, But the toshiba has that little something extra that makes it stand out above all the others. So for price and quality I would recommend this tv above all the others.
I'M SOLD.

2-0 out of 5 stars SCREEN BLACKS OUT MOMENTARILY DURING FLASHES
SOME OF MY SHOWS,WHETHER ITS A DIGITAL RECORDING,VCR TAPE OR LIVE TV,BLACKS OUT FOR AN INSTANT AND DOES IT EVERY TIME DURING THE 90210 SHOW INTRO.....PLUS THIS UNIT ALSO DOES NOT HAVE INTERNAL S-VIDEO SWITCHING,SO WHEN YOU HOOK IT UP COMPOSITE VIDEO NO LONGER WORKS.PLUS MOST CABLE BROADCASTS DONT HAVE A HIGH RESOLUTION SO THE PICTURE ONLY LOOKS GREAT ON SOME SHOWS.....PHOOOEY!

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!
I bought this tv after lamenting for several months over the different sets. I was going to buy a rear-projection HDTV but I'm going to wait until the HD programming is more than the 10 channels that I don't watch. So I bought this tv to do me 2-3 years and boy am I happy I did!!! This tv is sooooo crystal clear when I am watching my digital cable. I have the cable box hooked up using the svideo connection and I have never seen quite the picture I get on a normal CRT. Its so clear and it totally blows away my 6 year old 27 inch JVC. I hooked up my dvd player using the component connection and MAN! As if the picture could get any better! It does though.. mind blowing clarity when i was watching Finding Nemo with my daughter. Now I compared and compared and read review after review and am so happy with my purchase. The tv looked great in the store next to the sharp 32 inch, rca and jvc tvs and I knew it would be much better at home on my non-spliced-a-million-times connection. I am so happy and recommend this tv 100% to anyone looking to spend 400 and under. You can't go wrong!

1-0 out of 5 stars This TV has HORRIBLE color
I bought this TV due to the reviews it got off this site, boy was that a mistake. The browns look kind of dark greenish, the dark greens in Halo like almost p-green, the texture on the levels, the dirt and sand look tanish - pink. Also alot of the reds look pinkish. Do not buy this TV, I repeat, you will regret it, im taking mine back tomorrow, worst TV purchase I ever made. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Watch all the movies in your video collection in style and convenience with Toshiba's SD-V65HT. The silver and black system includes a space-saving combination DVD player/VCR coupled with a powered 5.1-channel speaker package. The DVD player is equipped with a ColorStream Pro progressive-scan output for superlative images on high-definition and HD-ready televisions, and in addition to full surround processing the system also plays your homemade CDs filled with MP3, WMA, and JPEG sound and image files. The VCR section offers 4-head, hi-fi playback and recording with convenient front-panel inputs for your camcorder, gaming device, or second VCR.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the SD-V65HT's ColorStream Pro DVD player stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television.

The SD-V65HT also features Toshiba's Digital Cinema Progressive feature (3:2 pulldown). DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.

The speaker package features 4 two-way satellite speakers (front and surround left/right, powered by 90 watts apiece), a larger center-channel speaker (for handling most dialogue and critical sound effects, also 90 watts), and a 150-watt, 7-inch subwoofer to drive home the foundation-shaking bass effects of your favorite movies. All 5 main speakers are acoustically matched for seamless blending.

Surround processing includes decoding of Dolby Digital, DTS, and Dolby Pro Logic II (which generates surround output from stereo sources), and an optical digital-audio input facilitates hookup with a CD recorder or alternate surround processor.

The system's Digital Photo Viewer lets you see digital JPEG photographs on any television; an intuitive onscreen display helps you customize slideshows with a few simple clicks of the remote. You can zoom, rotate, and pan the photos, as well as set the actual viewing time of each slide.

Other features include picture zoom, two auxiliary video inputs (one with S-video), and a universal remote control.

Amazon.com Product Description

Toshiba takes television into the future with the feature- and technolog y-packed 46-inch TheaterWide 46HM94 DLP integrated HDTV. For starters, the wides creen 46HM94 employs a proprietary system called TALEN (Toshiba Advanced Light E ngine) to maximize the brightness and contrast of its Texas Instruments HD2+ DLPchip, which has a native resolution of 1,280 x 720-pixel progressive resolution(720p). Thanks to this technology, Toshiba's TheaterWide TVs challenge direct-v iew CRT TVs when it comes to reproducing deep blacks and crisp details in dark o r shadowy scenes.

What is DLP?
The DLP processor DLP, or Digital Light Processing, is a technology that bounces a colored light beam across an array of hundreds of thousands of hinge-mounted microscopic mirrors attached to a single chip, called a "micro mirror device" (below, pictured with the head of a pin).
DLP mirrors dwarfed by the head of a pin
Each of the mirrors can be pointed toward or away from the light source thousands of times per second, providing not only minute color detail but also sharper resolution than even LCD displays.
Detail of resolution comparison between LCD and DLP
Next on the list is the built-in HDTV tuner, which can receive both digital terr estrial and digital cable broadcasts (ATSC and QAM), so there's no need to buy e xtra components to get hi-def signals. Of course standard-definition video looksgreat, too, thanks to Toshiba's multistep PixelPure video processing system, wh ich optimizes the three main picture quality factors: resolution, contrast, and color. All incoming signals are upconverted by the built-in "scaler" to match th e DLP chip's 720p resolution. The set's TheaterFine HD Super Fine Pitch screen r educes the physical space between the lines on the lenticular screen, resulting in a finer, sharper, more detailed picture.

In addition, a CableCARD slot gives you the option to connect to cable TV withou t a set-top box, giving you access to analog, digital cable, HDTV, and premium c able channels like HBO and Cinemax (if supported by your cable company). Two Fir eWire ports with industry standard DTVLink capability enable digital networking and recording. TV Guide On Screen, an interactive program guide, offers simple, user-friendly channel surfing. The TheaterNet IR/1394 control system enables eff ortless analog and digital external device control, and an OmniViewer Memory Car d Slot (compatible with Secure Digital, SmartMedia, Memory Stick, CompactFlash, and MultiMediaCard) with a JPEG viewer allows quick, easy viewing of digital pho tos.

The TV's excellent picture clarity is due to DFine Hi-Speed VSM (velocity scan m odulation), which improves contrast, while the CableClear DNR+ digital noise red uction optimizes poor NTSC signals from antenna or cable, minimizing video noise("snow") for a clean, crisp image. Cinema Mode circuitry (3:2 pulldown) identif ies original film-based content from DVDs, then reassembles the frame sequence t o more accurately reproduce the original 24-frame-per-second material.

A 3D Y/C (4 MB, 10-bit) digital comb filter with Vertical Contour Correction hel ps eliminate dot crawl and color bleed and significantly reduces detail noise, s een as shimmering or flicker, in complex or intricately detailed scenes. Color t emperature controls allow you to adjust white balance. The "Warm" setting reduce s the color temperature to an NTSC-standard 6,500 degrees Kelvin and delivers a redder image that is ideal for display in a dimly lit room. "Medium" and "Cool" provide a progressively bluer image for the best picture as light levels are inc reased.

The 46HM94 has plenty of inputs for connecting all your audio and video componen ts. In back you'll find two RF, two composite, two S-video, and two HD ColorStre am components, as well as an HDMI digital input. HDMI (High-Definition Multimedi a Interface) is an uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface that supportsstandard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus 8-channel digital audio--allon a single cable. A set of front composite and S-video inputs make hooking up a game console or camcorder a snap.

Other features include HD Window dual-tuner POP (picture-on-picture) with PIP so und for listening to two programs simultaneously, the new Radiance DC lamp with high brightness and lower power modes for extended life, individual audio/video settings by input type, sleep and wake timers, Real Speed progressive scanning t o create smoother diagonal lines, Color Transient Improver for sharp transitionson color changes without bleeding, and Color Detail Enhancer to maintain fine i mage detail in color saturated areas.

Aside from the 20-watts-per-channel stereo speaker system, the 62HM94 uses MTS f or programming with stereo sound and SAP for receiving a second audio track in a nother language. Meanwhile, SRS WOW combines 3D Sound (simulated surround sound from any stereo audio) with TruBass (yet another low-frequency enhancement) and Focus (which clarifies voices). The StableSound volume leveler eliminates drasti c volume spikes while changing channels or when channels go to a commercial brea k.

Amazon.com Product Description

Perfect for smaller spaces like an office, bedroom, or den, Toshiba's slim and stylish 20-inch 20DL74 flat-panel LCD enhanced-definition TV (EDTV) can put a lot of screen in a little space. When connected to an optional HDTV receiver, its EDTV compatibility means all video sources are converted to crisp, clear 480p, a progressive-scan format that is capable of displaying an entire frame in a single pass, with 60 full frames per second. The advantage is a reduction in flicker and a more filmlike picture quality.

A digital four-line comb filter helps eliminate dot crawl and color bleeding, enhancing fine detail, cleaning up image outlines, and removing most extraneous colors. And with LCD TVs, you never have to worry about an image burn in, so you don't have to be concerned with still images on your screen. The high 500:1 contrast ratio gives you better subtle color details and the ability to see the picture in bright light conditions. Toshiba's CT-864 remote allows for immediate access to basics like channel changing and volume as well as picture and sound adjustments and input switching. And since it glows, you can do them all in low-light conditions.

Built-in speakers (2.5 watts per channel) sit below the 4:3 aspect ratio screen, giving you full stereo sound without needing to connect to an external speaker system. News, Hall, and Theater sound modes help recreate audio environment conditions for more realistic sound reproduction. The 20DL74 also has MTS support for watching television with stereo sound, SAP for receiving a second audio track in another language, an audio leveler to prevent volume spikes during commercial breaks, and virtual surround for simulating multiple-channel soundtracks through its stereo speakers.

The 20DL74 isn't without hookups, either. In addition to a standard jack for your cable or antenna feed for use with the internal 181-channel NTSC tuner, there are two rear-panel composite-video inputs as well as a rear component jack and two S-video inputs. These are perfect for connecting a VCR, camcorder, gaming system, or DVD player, letting you quickly create a complete entertainment center. Plus, there's an A/V output. A mini stereo headphone jack is available too, in case you want to keep the sound to yourself.

At less than 4 inches deep and just 14 pounds, this flat-panel LCD TV can easily be mounted on a wall (with an optional bracket) to keep it up and out of the way. Or use the included tilt-and-swivel stand to use on a shelf or entertainment center.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Picture--Nice Design, but Thin Sound
I just got the Toshiba 14AF444 TV and the picture quality is superb. They claim "rich stereo sound" with the built-in speakers but, as one can imagine, the small speaker size lacks bass and you'll probably want to run the sound through at least a small receiver powering some real speakers.

The front A/V inputs are really handy--you can plug your camcorder in and watch movies immediately. Nice to not have to get in behind the unit to do so. I'm using it to make animations and small movies, so it is a great size to sit along side my computer & related equipment. Perfect unit for me. Not too heavy also at 24 pounds.

Note: It comes without cables, etc. Only the TV, remote control (a nice one) and owners manual, so you'll need to purchase whatever connecting cables you plan to use.

I think it's going to be a fine monitor for my needs.

Amazon.com Product Description

Toshiba's 19-inch 19A24 color CRT television offers great picture quality and several convenient features at an affordable price. Toshiba used its Blackstripe II picture tube in the 19A24, which delivers a superior picture in a more portable and practical small cabinet. The curved high-contrast tube has a 4:3 aspect ratio, better for viewing analog broadcast TV and pan-and-scan-formatted video at a resolution of 480i (interlaced).

A perfect TV for parents, the 19A24 has a V-chip control system to easily limit the types of programs their children are watching. A channel lock keeps children from viewing possibly inappropriate channels and a video lock prevents viewing of sources connected to selected inputs like a VCR or DVD player. And if you have a gamer in the family, a GameTimer feature lets parents regulate video game time in 10 minute intervals up to 180 minutes. A front-panel A/V input handles quick connection of video game systems or other electronic devices, so there's no need to go searching in back of the set for the right input.

A Glow TV remote gives you command over all of the most important tuning features for the set in low-light situations. An RF connector is ready for attaching to a VHF/UHF antenna or cable. It even has channel return and noise muting. A 181-channel NTSC tuner provides access to all channels on unscrambled cable systems. The built-in, 1.5-watt, front-firing speaker system gives you clean, unobstructed mono sound. A front-panel headphone jack allows for individual listening privacy.

4-0 out of 5 stars NO to MP3's
I ordered MD13P1 TV/DVD combo from Amazon.com They said it would take from 5 to 10 days for Delivery .It only took 3 Days 5 stars to amazon. The discription said it would play mp3's nope notta will not Play them. As for every thing else works just GREAT.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice for Bedroom
I bought this item for my wife to watch DVDs in the bedroom since she can't figure out how to use the bigger SONY DVP CX-850 in the living room. The convenience of having this all-in-one unit perched on top of a dresser is both easy to use and space conscious. It's smart too, it knows when you pop open the DVD drawer, that it should switch to DVD mode for viewing. This is great for my wife who is "techno-challenged". The picture quality is exceptional and the remote is fairly easy to figure out. It has front AV jacks if ya wanna add other components like Playstation or Nintendo. There's even a headphone jack for private listening while your partner is asleep. All in all, it's a solid purchase. I got mine from eBay for $91.00... ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The Toshiba SD6915 five-disc DVD player offers up a whole host of advanced features in a sleek, silver package. The SD6915 is fitted with Super ColorStream Pro progressive-scan component-video (digital 3:2 pulldown) outputs, allowing for the highest-quality video signal to be sent from the DVD player to a component-video-equipped 480p TV for the smoothest, most filmlike images. When the player is utilized with an HD-ready set, typical NTSC artifacts--like video noise, dot crawl, and flicker--are virtually eliminated, resulting in a low-noise, highly detailed picture with excellent color purity. Working alongside is its 192 kHz/24-bit D/A converter to deliver warmer, more natural-sounding audio from many types of discs, including multichannel DVD-Audio and Super Audio CDs.

The player holds up to five discs, and you can set it to play them randomly. It'll play back songs randomly among each CD sequentially, or randomly among all the discs loaded at one time. The carousel tray allows access to load and unload discs while one is in play, so you'll never have to interrupt the music.

The SD6915 has playback options galore. Along with the aforementioned DVD-Audio and Super Audio CDs, you can play CD-R and CD-RW discs loaded with your music in either WMA or MP3 files, homemade DVD-Rs, and, of course, DVD-Video discs. You can even use it as a JPEG viewer to display digital photographs on a television set in the JPEG digital format. Just pop in a CD-R/RW with your favorite photos and start the show. Want to get a better look at something on the screen? Use the Digital Picture Zoom to select an area of the picture you want to magnify. Enhanced digital processing during moving video or freeze-frame playback produces superior color fidelity and resolution, even when you're zoomed in. You can also expand letterboxed films to increase the viewable area onscreen.

Video isn't the only thing to benefit from this player. The SD6915 has a 5.1-channel output with Bass Management for onboard decoding of Dolby Digital, DVD-Audio, and SACD content with control of independent channel parameters (speaker size, delay time, etc.), including control for bass reproduction. Use this feature to customize the player's multichannel audio output to your particular home theater system. Coaxial and optical TosLink Dolby Digital and DTS surround-sound outputs are also available. These use a single RCA-type or optical output jack to send signature multichannel audio to an audio/video receiver with a compatible input.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible, buggy player
I've owned this player for a week now, and it's terribly buggy.

It won't turn on if it's set to output in progressive scan. It has annoying 1/4 second audio drops if you watch a DTS movie. It's response time to buttons pushed on the panel or remote is miserable. The ergonomics of the remote is horrible. It's picture isn't that good: http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/cgi-bin/shootout.cgi?function=search&articles=all&type=&manufacturer=1&maxprice=0&deInt=0&mpeg=0#ToshibaSD-6915

Amazon.com Product Description

Toshiba's 57H93 integrated projection HDTV improves standard-definition sources, displays high-definition signals, and even receives high-definition broadcasts--it requires no external DTV set-top box in order for you to view true 1080i programming. The set delivers stunning images from home-theater components, too, including progressive-scan DVD players, DVRs, satellite receivers, and camcorders.

The included Gemstar interactive program guide shows program data on both digital and analog channels, from both terrestrial and cable sources. It can even control external recording devices for one-touch recording. You can feed the set custom programming, too: the front panel features a multicard flash-memory slot with a built-in JPEG photo viewer so you enjoy digital photos right off your Secure Digital and SmartMedia flash cards.

The set's TruView feature combines several enhancements (black level expansion, fine white, flesh tone correction, and color detail enhancer) to automatically display accurate picture and color details. Also automated, HD Dynamic Contrast continually analyzes picture information and sharpens and deepens those parts of the picture with the most detailed information.

And since not everything you watch will be high-definition in origin (wouldn't that be nice), CrystalScan HDSC upconverts all video signals (including 480i/p) to 1080i HD. This significantly reduces jagged-line artifacts for a smoother, more natural image. (Selectable 540p, for those who want a progressive-scan image from a progressive-scan source, is available through the onscreen menu.) CableClear DNR+ Digital Noise Reduction circuitry optimizes poor NTSC signals from antenna or cable by eliminating video noise (snow).

Meanwhile, DFine high-speed velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.

A 3D Y/C (4 MB, 10-bit) digital comb filter with Vertical Contour Correction processes RF and composite-video signals, reducing detail noise (seen as shimmering or flicker) in complex scenes. TouchFocus digital convergence creates perfect corner-to-corner focus at the press of a button, and Cinema Mode (3:2 pulldown) circuitry identifies film-based content from DVDs and reassembles the frame sequence to more accurately reproduce a movie's original 24-frame rate. This eliminates artifacts and leaves you with sharp, accurate full-frame progressive images.

The 57H93 is loaded with connections of all stripes, including a DVI HDTV input--handy if you're using it in conjunction with an existing DTV set-top box. Dual ColorStream component-video inputs accommodate compatible high-resolution devices, while standard composite-, S-video, and RF inputs handle everything else you might want to connect.

For audio, the 20-watts-per-channel 57H93 offers SRS WOW, combining SRS 3D, TruBass (which boosts low-frequency perception for dramatic bass effects), and Focus (which raises the perceived sound image vertically to clarify voices) to enhance your home-theater sound. An optical digital-audio output feeds Dolby Digital surround signals to compatible AV receivers and speaker systems, StableSound maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal, and Toshiba's Sub Bass System (SBS) boosts a program's low-end audio for additional dramatic impact.

The set's TheaterNet Icon IR control system takes TheaterLink IR passthrough capability to new heights through the use of onscreen icons and virtual control bars to operate source devices such as a VCRs or DVD players--even if those components are hidden from view.

5-0 out of 5 stars HDTVDude
This TV rocks. Packaged with lots of features and connectivity options and HDTV built in tuner. Picture quality is very good. No wonder Toshiba is better than Sony in Projection TV's (I own both). Wouldn't want to talk about all the features as those can be read by anyone in product features in many websites. A must buy. This Theaterwide series form Toshiba is real power packed in features. Sound quality and picture settings are very easy and crisp. The Auto TV guide one touch recording is fantastic. I was more interested in the IEEE and HDI connectivity. There is also SmartMdiaCard reader to watch pics out of the digicam. I bought indoor HDTV antenna from Jensen and it works great. Digital local channels off the air are free and you can watch HDTV prime time programs without any other cost (I am watching Fox, ABC and NBC digital ones). Sound output fascinates with 40W speakers and SRS Wow.There is another line from Toshiba known as Cinema Series. That looks little refined than this TheatreWide one but then if you plan to spend that much, you might as well buy an LCD or DLP projection TV. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The Basics:
As the midlevel model in Toshiba's powerful, multimedia-friendly A75 roster of portable computers, the Satellite A75-S226 Notebook PC provides a good compromise between price and performance. Featuring a 15.4-inch widescreen display perfect for DVD viewing, an extremely potent Intel Pentium 4 processor and all the connectivity you'll need for the latest digital camcorders and cameras, the Satellite A75-S226 is a fast machine ready for most any remote or home application.

Processor:
At the heart of any computer lies the CPU (or processor), a massive collection of miniature transistors that governs the speed and power of the entire unit. Some of today's notebooks are equipped with high-end CPU's on par with those found in top-of-the-line desktop PCs, though these machines are usually noticeably larger and more power hungry than their less powerful counterparts. For the Satellite A75-S226, Toshiba has selected a super-fast 3.06 GHz Pentium 4 532. This CPU is part of the new second-generation of Intel's potent Pentium 4 series, offering improved power efficiency, extra "Level 2 cache" for quicker access to recently viewed data, and "Hyper-Threading" (a technology that allows a single-CPU system to behave at times like a two-CPU system). Running at 3.02 GHz, this is a very powerful CPU that'll handle virtually anything you can throw its way.

Memory:
Computers typically store information on their hard drive, but they keep frequently and recently accessed data in Random Access Memory (RAM). More RAM means faster computing, superior multitasking and less strain on your hard drive. The Satellite A75-S226 includes 512 MB of RAM, an allotment that's considered quite adequate even if you perform lots of multitasking. The system also allows you to expand to a whopping 1.5 GB of RAM, more than enough for any situation you'll ever come across.

Video:
CPUs are usually so busy doing basic calculations that they need help translating visual output to the viewing screen. This is the duty of the graphics card (or graphics controller). This system's graphics controller is an ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 IGP with 128 MB of shared video memory. Though dedicated video memory would be ideal, the truth is that 128 MB is an impressive amount, even when shared. As such, the Satellite A75-S226 will smoothly and accurately display all 2D and most 3D applications. You may need to upgrade this video controller if you plan to operate super high-end games and 3D animation packages, but the system is otherwise a video powerhouse.

Display:
At 15.4 inches and featuring a widescreen format suitable for displaying DVD movies, the unit's WXGA TFT active matrix display is great for multimedia enthusiasts. The screen's highest supported resolution of 1280 by 800 is superior to the genre's average 1024 by 768, delivering crisp images and lots of fine detail.

Hard Disk:
The Satellite A75-S226 features a solid 60 GB of hard disk space. This is an average size for today's notebooks, offering enough room for general applications and files and a small library of music or multimedia files too.

Optical Drive:
An optical drive is essential in today's computing environment. A "CD-ROM" drive allows you to install CD-based applications and play music CDs. A "CD-RW" drive adds CD "burning", so you can also backup your important files to long-lasting discs and create personalized music CDs. With a DVD-ROM drive you can watch DVD movies. And with a DVD-RW drive, you can "write" home movies to durable discs and archive files to DVD (DVDs boast more than seven times the storage capacity of a CD). Some drives allow you to do a combination or all of these tasks. This particular system features an extremely versatile "SuperMulti" drive that supports that supports all of the above in every currently available CD or DVD format.

Audio:
The system features an integrated audio processor that mimics the spatial awareness of surround sound through its two stereo speakers.

Keyboard and Controls:
You'll control your notebook via an 85-key keyboard with 12 function keys and a TouchPad pointing device. CD control functions include play/pause, stop/eject, previous, and skip/next.

Connectivity and Expansion:
The Satellite A75-S226 offers a wide variety of ways to keep in touch, including a 56K modem for low-speed dial-up Internet and email access, an RJ-45 Ethernet port for high-speed wired network and Internet, and integrated wireless LAN for cordless e-communication at home, at the office or on the road via a local public hotspot. Other key amenities include three high-speed USB 2.0 ports for fast interaction with plug and play devices such as external drives and digital cameras, and an IEEE 1394 FireWire port (commonly used for quick data uploads from digital camcorders).

Operating System and Software:
Toshiba has fitted the system with today's most widely accepted operating system, Microsoft's Windows XP Home Edition.

Dimensions and Weight:
Notebook computers are manufactured in a wide variety of sizes and weights. Many of today's most powerful notebooks are also the largest, weighing ten or twelve lbs or more and therefore too big and cumbersome for extensive, continuous traveling. These are often referred to as "desktop replacements". On the other extreme are "thin and lights" or "ultra-portables", super-miniaturized units that typically aren't as powerful as their larger brethren but weigh as little as two lbs and will often fit comfortably inside a large purse. The Satellite A75-S206 is considered quite slim by today's standards, at just 1.1 inches thick. Otherwise, it is of average size at 14.4 by 10.8 inches and 7.7 lbs.

Power:
The system is equipped with a 12-cell Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery. Though you won't experience the long battery life of today's ultra-light notebooks (often powered by super-efficient but less powerful Intel "Pentium M" processors), the Satellite A75-S226 will deliver in excess of 2 hours between charges, an impressive duration considering its level of power. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars This item does NOT contain a DVD - Don't buy it!
I have been waiting for Toshiba to replace its horribly trouble-prone 14" Flatscreen/DVD combo, so when this was posted on Amazon, I threw caution to the wind and ordered it as soon as I saw it (for a vacation, wouldn't you know it?).The price is fantastic, isn't it?That is because it does NOT have a DVD player, as described a/o Apr 10, 2005.

Repeat:a Toshiba 14AF45 is NOT a DVD combo, it is a 14" FS TV only. ... Read more
