4-0 out of 5 stars OK cheap phone with useless mute button
This phone is OK for the money and will serve as a basic 2-line budget speakerphone. The sound quality and features are acceptable for the price. Be warned, however, that the mute button is not very useful. It only mutes while the button is being pressed. As soon as you release the mute button, you are off mute.

1-0 out of 5 stars disappointing
The mute button has to be held down continuously and doesn't work as expected. When another extension for line 2 is in use, you are unable to pick up line 2 on this phone. When a line 2 extension is in use line 1 and line 2 on this phone both become line 1. Also the hold button does not always work either. All in all it's not very usable or reliable phone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great 2-line phone for the price
Considering the price, the phone works great. It doesn't have all of the features of the more expensive phones, but you get what you pay for. For the money, this phone works great. If you just need a phone with two lines, this is it.

3-0 out of 5 stars For 30 bucks, who can complain
Short form, this is a good telephone for the money. It's hard to find a speakerphone for under $40, and while I would hesitate to say this one is good, it's at least acceptable. No bells and whistles, but it gets the job done.

Probably the largest deficiency is in the speakerphone volume; it just isn't loud enough. Even turned up to full volume, I have to concentrate to hear it. It's also very prone to duplex drop-out, background noise causing the coversation to cut in and out.

The price was what attracted me though (probably you as well), and I knew I was buying a cheap phone. It hasn't fallen apart and the audio quality it good, so I'm pretty happy with it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars THE WORST PHONE EVER!
Please don't buy this phone unless you have nothing else to do but waste money. I got the phone at a really great price so I can't be too mad. The phone has terrible reception, and the battery dies too fast. I took the phone back after 2 days of using it. This was the worst phone that I have ever used!

1-0 out of 5 stars AWFUL PHONE
The reception is horrible, the range is not even close to the manufacturer's claims, and it cuts in and out constantly. We have three other cordless phones in our home and we don't have the same problems. This phone is definitely a dud! Don't buy it or you'll be online shopping for another (just like I am today!!)

BUYER BEWARE!

1-0 out of 5 stars Great as a Dust collector!
The only thing good I can say about this phone is the color. Nothing but static. There is a high pitched noise every few minutes while your on the phone, for no reason. Even on high for the volume control- you can barely hear a person and the buttons are so sensitve that you easily hang up on people if your check hits one of them!

1-0 out of 5 stars Disaster!
This phone is terrific, except for the HORRIBLE SCREECHING NOISE that occurs every few times I use it. It's truly awful, ear-piercing screeching. And when another call is coming in when I'm already on the phone, my conversation is interrupted for several seconds where I just can't hear the other person anymore. This phone is the absolute pits.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Overall
I purchased this phone to replace an older ATT cordless phone and was disappointed with almost very aspect. The design is neither attractive nor comfortable in the hand, set up is quirky, documentation is unclear, and day-to-day performance is disappointing. Although fairly comfortable with all sorts of electronic devices, I had to call the help line to complete set up, which required a series of steps not described in the documentation.

Overall, a disappointment. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Poor Quality Product
This phone tries to look like the GH5811 "Digital" Version (which I have), but is VERY Inferior in Quality. When I first took it out of the box, I thought it was a joke phone, like one of those non-working prop phones they sometimes use in stores for display purposes. But that wasn't the case... this joke phone was for real, and it wasn't funny either.Very VERY Poor Construction in Every Possible way!I just can't believe that SWB took a Phone like the GH5811, which is So Well Made and Beautiful, and reduced it to this thing. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Hard to hear...
I do not like this phone. The option selections are not very intuitive. The volume on the headset seems to go down every time you hang up the phone. The next time you answer you have to turn it back up to hear the caller.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Product!
This phone is a really(!) good concept. The base unit is the only part which needs to be near a jack. Any of the (up to 4) handsets, then, only need to have their charging stands near an electrical outlet. This makes the system excellent for older homes and apartments with a limited number of telephone jacks, which often are in out-of-the-way places.

The phone has an amazing range, and works quite well in my 2-level home, even though there is much structural steel in the walls. After 2-months of use, I have yet to have a bad/static-y connection.

My only(!) negative comment is with the Caller-ID redial "feature". I live in CA, where 1+dialing is a requirement when using area codes. There is no way to set the area code in the phone system (according to customer service), as the phone automatically senses the area code. However, the phone doesn't automatically strip out the area code for local calls, nor append "1" to the beginning of the dialing string for out of area calls. This is maddening! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything I've Ever Wanted in a Cordless Phone
I have no technical aptitude and no patience reading instructional manuals. Nevertheless, I was able to set up this phone. What's more, it's sturdy (I've had it for six months or so with no problems), attractive (in a form follows function sort of way) and gets clear sound from every room of my spacious (by New York City standards) one-bedroom apartment.

1-0 out of 5 stars too many problems
I bought my SW Bell FF908 about two years ago. After owning it for 10 months it failed for no apparent reason. I sent it to Conair (the manufacturer) for waranty repair. They sent it back with a fresh battery but still nonfunctional. (I guess they don't read the problem description if the battery is old). After I returned it again they sent me a replacement phone that worked fairly well for a year.

When the battery wore out recently I looked in every store in town that carries cordless phone batteries but couldn't find a compatable battery so I ordered a replacement battery from Conair. I unquestionably gave them the correct model number for the phone but they sent the wrong battery. When I called to request the correct battery, their computers were down and they told me to call back another day. I called back a couple days later and finally got them to send the correct battery. Now that I have a working battery again I have discovered that the phone doesn't dial correctly. Most of the time I get silence or a "wrong number" recording when I use the FF908 to dial. The keys must be worn out.

I suggest trying another brand if you are looking for an inexpensive cordless phone that will last (but not GE/Thomson: their low-end 900Mhz phone has awful audio quality and range)

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent cordless phone
We have used this phone nearly 1 year. The reception is always clear, indoors and out. Talk time is surprisingly long, my teenager talks literally for hours without recharging. It is a great value, simple to program and use. The handset takes lots of physical abuse without cracking or malfunctioning. Highly recommended.

2-0 out of 5 stars Static on line
I purchased the white version of this phone when it was on sale for $15.00 at amazon.com and the reviews were good. Unfortunately the phone has static on it when in use. Changing the channel or anything else doesn't help. I guess I'll have to send it back because it is basically unusable. None of the other reviews had mentioned this problem, so maybe it is a manufacturing defect rather than a design problem.

5-0 out of 5 stars best cordless phone i have ever used!
this is a really simple phone. you can store memory numbers and it has lots of other buttons. it's really easy to set up because it has step-by-step instructions. after you dial the number it has a little pause, but that's because it's looking for the clearest channel for your conversation. i haven't used it for very long, a few days maybe, but the reception isn't the clearest i have ever heard, but the good thing about that is that you can manually change reception channels to find the best one yourself. you can page people with it, too. my other cordless phone (before it broke) was never clear, and i had to recharge it every five minutes. this is a big change, and i'm glad i got it. i really really really recommend it! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Keep looking
My wife and I bought this setup in hopes of having more phones located throughout the house. That part worked out well. After approx. 3 months the caller id screens, which also displays the menu, quit displaying anything. Phones still work, you just can't see the number you are dialing, no big deal had to do this for so many years before. The volume must be constantly adjusted, it appears they have a feature built in to go to midrange volume everytime you answer the phone, not a bad idea, but as someone with a slight hearing problem it is quite annoying to have to increase the volume everytime I talk to someone. I tend to use my cell phone for local calls instead of the home phone now. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Seems great at first
I was extremely happy with this as first because we have an upstairs and a downstairs and we really enjoyed using the intercom feature. Also, we really like the caller id on both handsets. Not being able to make a call from the base is a big nuisance though. My biggest problem with this phone however which makes it unusable is that I keep hearing silences on my end - similar to what you hear when the other person gets a call waiting signal. The result is that I miss a lot of the conversation because when it happens it happens rather often. While I hear the silences the person on the other side hears a loud beep. Very annoying! I see that another caller spoke of this in their review and said that when they contacted Customer Service they were told that other Customers have complained about this, so there is obviously a fault in the design. I would not recommend it and I am getting a new phone myself. What a waste!

4-0 out of 5 stars They will stand behind their product!
This phone is perfect for my situation. A 2 bed room rent house with only 1 phone jack. The phone company wants $100 to install new phone jacks and with this phone you only need one. I noticed the beeping almost immediately which was not annoying enough to return. All the other features are outstanding! Only one phone jack required, 3 receivers with the option to add more, caller ID/call waiting, memory to store phone numbers and names. About 9 months with the phone the LCD display went out on one of the the receviers, we thought no big deal the other still has it. Then right at 12 months the second receiver started to show the same symptoms of the the LCD display disappearing. I called the phone number on the owners manual and they said no problem send in the entire phone and we'll replace it free of charge. This makes any of the problems seem more minuscule. We've had to purchase another phone to replace this one while we're waiting for the replacement and I really want my phone back I can't stand the Motorola we got. Target's so great, because we will be able to return the Motorola as soon as the SWB phone is back to us. It all works out!

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible phone
I created an account here just to add a comment on this phone...DO NOT BUY...the displays on ALL four of our handsets are in various stages of disappearing. I called and complained to the company which was a waste of time. The person who I talked to was rude and completely unhelpful; she said to change the batteries! I really regret buying this phone system. A '1 star' rating is too high.

1-0 out of 5 stars PIECE OF JUNK
I purchased my phone less than a year ago and had the same problem as everyone else who purchased this phone, the digital display disappeared. Well, I called Southwestern Bell which is also Conair and thought I was being treated very well since they agreed to replace my phone with a newer model at no charge since this model was discontinued. Surprise! I got the replacement a couple of days ago and it's a bigger piece of junk than the original phone. It looks like something that you would pay $19.99 for. I called Conair and complained and they said they would have to speak with a supervisor and noone has called me back. Moral to this story, you get what you pay for and don't buy phones from a company that specializes in personal care appliances.

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!
I BOUGHT THIS PHONE AROUND C'MAS OF 2002. BY THE WINTER OF 2003, THE DIGITAL DISPLAYS ON BOTH THE PHONES WAS NO LONGER LEGIBLE. AND AROUND ANOTHER MONTH LATER, NOTHING WAS SHOWING UP ON THE DISPLAY ON EITHER PHONE! I CALLED AND COMPLAINED OF COURSE AND THE LADY I TALKED TO AT CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS VERY RUDE. SHE TOLD ME I COULD MAIL BOTH HANDSETS IN, AT MY COST, AND OF COURSE PAY FOR THEM TO FIX THE HANDSETS. AND PAY TO HAVE THEM SHIPPED BACK TO ME. I JUST TOLD HER THAT NO I WASN'T DOING THAT AND I WOULD JUST NEVER BUY THIS PRODUCT AGAIN. BUT, PLEASE, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. I HAVE HEARD NOTHING BUT THE SAME PROBLEM, WITH THE DIGITAL DISPLAY, MESSING UP ON THESE CHEAP PHONES! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible Beeping Noises
We bought the phone yesterday for what we thought was a good deal. Unfortunately, this phone is the noisiest phone I've ever tried. Dialing means you have to incur an annoying clicking sound, and hanging up involves a loud beep. Simply putting the phone on the base requires earplugs. Returning this sucker tomorrow.

1-0 out of 5 stars Can't use in Kitchen
After having three phones from Southwestern Bell and having problems with all three, I was told by their customer service reps that their phones don't work in the kitchen. That's seens funny. Where do most people have their phones. The battery doesn't stay charged, there are moments when it just cuts out for a couple seconds, and the volume is bad even when you turn it all the way up.

1-0 out of 5 stars I want my old phone back.....
Using this phone has been a frustrating experience. I initially liked it because of the wall mount and the way it tilts back for holding the handset. After that there are no redeeming features. People on the other end always said we sounded far away or they could barely hear us. On the receiving end, we experienced a lot of background interference - hissing, echo, and word cut off. I tried two of these and got the same result. It's too late for me, but save yourself the headache (literally from all the noise). I'm going to live with the sticky keypad on my old Panasonic and put it back into service until I find something else.

1-0 out of 5 stars I want my old phone back.....
I expect quality transmission in a phone and from day one with this model it has been a lose lose situation for me and the person I am talking to. The person on the other end always says the same thing - "you sound really far away or I can barely hear you". For me, there is a continuous hiss and an echo when I speak. Despite the sticking key pad, our old Panasonic cordless is superior to this phone. For now, I dial out using the new phone and conduct the call on the old phone. I still need a new phone - the Soutwestern Bell phone has got to go! It's too late for me, but save yourself the headache (literally from all the hiss in your ear) and select another cordless phone.

2-0 out of 5 stars Design Flaws and Bad Reception
Bad reception seems to be a common complaint for cordless telephones. I simply don't understand why cellular phones have better reception than cordless phones within a small, enclosed space.
The reception for this phone is shoddy, plagued by interference no matter which channel I switch to. The people on the other end of the phone sound very far away and "tinny". Setting the date and time on the phone is difficult. Don't bother trying to set the date/time for the handset, you can't, although you can for the base. It displays the wrong time and date until you receive a caller ID phone call.
Unlike other cordless phones I've owned, you can't choose the ring tone. You also must wait through a very long introduction until you can record an outgoing greeting. Each time you try to record it, it states "To record a new greeting, press and hold the greeting button. Please continue to hold the greeting button until you have finished recording your outgoing greeting". The phone also beeps very LOUDLY when you press the talk button, either to answer to hang up a call.
While I realize that the phone is inexpensive for an all-in-one cordless, digital answering machine, caller id unit - it's not worth the price I paid for it. I could have spent more and had a really nice phone. I don't recommend purchasing this item. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent features, bad sound
I sort of expected 2.4 GHz would be better than 900 MHz (bigger number and all) but it's not the case with this phone. My old Southwestern Bell 900 MHz analog phone sounds *a lot* clearer than this phone. Every time I speak it creates a kind of aura of static to my ear, wrapped around my voice...the other party has been able to hear me fine, though. Otherwise has a nice VIP caller feature, but I'm returning it. Are all 2.4 GHz phones so disappointing? ... Read more
