Amazon.com Product Description

This portable radio is perfect for travelers who want to keep in touch with their favorite FM/AM and TV stations. The Sony ICF-M410V even receives NOAA weather stations to allow up-to-date metrological forecasts and warnings. With shuttle dial operation and five direct keys for memory presets, this radio allows quick access to your favorite stations. There are twenty presets, five stations for each band. One important feature of the ICF-M410V is the sleep/turn-on timer. With this feature, it is possible to not only have the radio turn off after a selected amount of time, but also to have the radio turn on at a preset time.

This four-band radio picks up FM, AM, TV and weather channels. FM frequencies range between 87.6 and 108 MHz while AM frequencies range from 530 to 1710 kHz. You will pick up TV VHF channels 2-13 and weather channels 1-7. You can listen to the radio via the 3 1/8" speaker, or through optional headphones via the headphone jack. Whether through the built-in ferrite bar antenna or the telescopic FM, TV and weather antenna, you are sure to receive the best possible reception. Sony designed this portable radio for on-the-move enjoyment. Either carry the lightweight radio like a small bag, or set the small radio on a desk or dresser. 5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the price!
The Amazon reviews are (usually) very helpful when considering product choices. However, I am continually perplexed by the number of "geniuses" who participate. With this diminutive gem, you get digital tuning, tv/am/fm bands, sleep timer, clock radio, pre-set buttons, etc. In other words, for less than 40 bucks, IT'S LOADED!!!

Yet incredibly, a few rocket scientists downgraded it for not having stereo or home-theatre sound quality. That's why you have to check out the reviews individually, rather than go by the average "star" rating.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Radio .....but NO PLUG included!!
Buy this radio-- but buy the plug along with it!!!
I love these Radios w/TV sound reception!! (great for the office, kitchen, bathroom, BLACKOUTS!!) I've owned others- a Sony, a GE and a hand held portable/transistor - so I've got a lot to compare.
This radio is VERY nicely designed--compact and portable; easy to read and set. Sound quality is VERY clear and it's nice to have the sleep timer and push button tuning (MUCH better than to fish for the stations on a dial).
The color: "putty" is a bit outdated. (Black would have been better), but it'll do.
All and all it's a GREAT little radio!!!
But....here's the disappointing news....There's NO adaptor included!! NO way to plug it in.
WHY??
You'd think those adaptors would be the easiest thing to include. (how many old ones have I thrown out??!)
Anyway, it says that you HAVE to use a 4.5v adaptor (and of course what's left in my junk drawer are a 3, a 9 and a 5.5v).
So now I have to figure out where to pick up this adaptor!
And that's why it only received 4 stars!
Also--I don't remember being prompted by Amazon to make this additonal purchase when I added this item to my shopping cart. (...Hint to Amazon...)

Anyway, just be sure to purchase the adaptor when you buy this radio and you'll be a happy camper (these TV/radios are GREAT for camping, too...)

4-0 out of 5 stars Handy for more than emergencies & good sound quality
When I was a kid growing up in New Jersey my parents had this radio in the kitchen (that they bought through their Gulf credit card) that seemed to get every band in the world. We used to love to listen to the short wave at night. But the radio really came in handy for its weather channels when the power went out during thunderstorms. We also boated a lot, and the NOAA weather radio broadcasts became as important a step in planning for an outing as packing the sailbags and filling the cooler with ice.

Now that I live in the midwest, I live through wicked seasonal thunderstorms that often knock out the power. I also find that our tv stations' weather reports are useless for two reasons -- they cover too large a broadcast area, and they tend to hype the weather for everyone, even if only one part of the state is being affected. After this most recent round of thunderstorms and flooding I decided to get a battery powered radio that gets weather radio channels so I can cut through the tv hype and get specific local information.

I had an Amazon coupon, and decided to buy this radio for two reasons. First, unlike other radios on Amazon, this one shipped for free, which made it equivalent in price to other radios with fewer features. Second, even though the tv weather coverage around here drives me crazy it is nice to know that I can tune into the tv channels if I want to when if the power goes out.

Now that I have the radio I have found (like other reviewers) that I use it for much more than emergencies. The radio is so small and handy that I keep it near my desk and use it to get a quick weather update in the morning. I also listen to NPR throughout the day, which I wouldn't otherwise do unless I'm in my car. (Is it me, or did we learn in the big hair generation that a tricked out stereo is the only radio worth having in the house?)

I have two minor complaints about the radio. There is a lot of interference with other electronics on the weatherband channels. I also have to crank up the volume on those stations to hear anything. As a result as I have to carry the radio around the room to get a good weather reception spot. And as I do so, I have to endure these really loud waves of interference until I find the right spot (ow). But this is only a minor annoyance. If it weren't for that I'd give it 5 stars. My second complaint is that while the radio is on, it displays the frequency and not the clock. You have to turn off the radio or look at a different source to get a time check. These are only minor annoyances, worth living with for the price.

There are also two features I didn't really think much about when I bought the radio that I now use all the time. First, I use the standby feature (which on most other radios would be called an alarm), to turn the radio on every day right as the afternoon NPR broadcast begins. If left to my own devices I never remember to turn on the radio at the right time. Second, I also use the sleep feature a lot -- if I walk away from the radio, I know that the radio will turn itself off and not wear down the battery.

I like the sound quality -- even the AM stations are pleasant to listen to.

5-0 out of 5 stars great value radio
This is a great radio for the price. It's size and shape make it convenient to carry around and the reception is fabulous.

3-0 out of 5 stars Look elsewhere if you need Weatherband...
I received this radio from amazon today and am happy with it except for the faulty Weatherband. (It's the tuner that's bad: all 7 weather channels tune to the same frequency, and none of them well, compared to my smaller, cheaper, older Radio Shack Weather Cube). Sony's technical support was of no help whatsoever, referring me to NOAA's frequency guide on the web. Weatherband shortcomings aside, the radio fits perfectly on a narrow ledge (like a window sill); the 3-inch speaker sounds great for its size, and the five presets per band are adequate for me. The TV channels perform well, too. ... But for $40 or less, it's a good value and performs well (except for the Weatherband, which could be a defect only in the radio I received). Made in China, by the way, not in Japan. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Housed in a floating-glass design with transparent top and bottom elements, Sony's 37-inch digital-cable-ready KDE-37XS955 plasma television is a treat for the eyes whether it's on or off. The set offers analog and digital high-definition inputs, great audio features, and a suite of picture-enhancing technologies.

The set's integrated ATSC/QAM/NTSC tuner grants access to both over-air digital high-definition broadcasts and digital cable programming. Using its CableCARD port, the set will receive digital cable television systems services directly from a cable operator without requiring a bulky, external cable box. A Memory Stick media slot with JPEG, MPEG-1, and MP3 compatibility simplifies playback of digital media files, including still pictures from compatible cameras.

With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile, perfect for desk or wall mounting. You do, however, need to be cautious of image burn-in (permanent ghosting from longstanding stationary images).

Sony's 2004 WEGA Engine maximizes picture performance from virtually any video source. Multi Image Driver (MID X) circuitry, part of the WEGA Engine system, scales all incoming signals--SD or HD--to the configuration of the panel without degrading the signal. It also provides unique picture-and-picture features once impossible for fixed-pixel devices.

Working in tandem with the WEGA Engine are 3 other key technologies: V2 Digital Reality Creation MultiFunction circuitry (which digitally maps any NTSC source to create finely detailed pictures that rival high-definition images); a new Panel Driver LSI (providing more realistic colors then earlier drivers); and IFP (Image Format Processor, whose wideband Digital Texture Enhancer optimizes contrast while reducing signal noise and maintaining image sharpness).

DRC--Digital Reality Creation MultiFunction circuitry--upconverts standard interlaced (480i) video sources to 960i or progressive-scan 480p, while inputs up to 720p (720 lines, progressively scanned) are upsampled to full 1080i. DRC processes video signals in real time, creating images with 4 times the density of the original signals. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p and 720p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional images, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

The KDE-37XS955 also employs CineMotion reverse 3:2 pulldown technology (often called 3:2 pulldown), a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movies in their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.

Favorite Channel gives you 1-button access to the last 8 channels you've tuned (Auto) or 8 favorites that you've preset (Manual). These channels appear in the PIP inset, while your current program continues as the main picture.

Two high-definition component-video inputs grant optimum connection with a DTV decoder and progressive-scan DVD player, while standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodate all DVD players. The set's HDMI interface provides a digital connection with your DTV receiver. HDMI supports standard-definition (SD), enhanced definition (ED), or high-definition (HD) video, plus multichannel digital audio--all using a single cable. Choose between rear A/V inputs and a set of side AV inputs for extra convenience.

Improved proprietary audio capabilities include an S-Master digital amplifier LSI, along with a detachable 50-watt subwoofer that can be inconspicuously mounted to a wall bracket or a table-top stand, as well as two 25-watt left/right front speakers to create a complete 2.1 channel system. The set's S-Master digital audio amplifier processes clear dialog and reproduces the original sound quality while minimizing sound fragmentation or time-based distortion (jitter).

The KDE-37XS955 can also serve as a center-channel speaker in a 5.1-channel home theater, saving shelf space required for bulky stand-alone center speakers. If you don't have Dolby Pro Logic processing or a surround speaker system, the TV's SRS TruSurround will simulate surround sound through any 2 speakers.

Amazon.com Product Description

Bring the theater home with Sony's panoramic, high-definition-ready KV-34HS420 FD (flat display) Trinitron WEGA television. The 34-inch set offers analog and digital high-definition inputs, great audio features, and a suite of picture-enhancing technologies. Whether you're watching VHS tapes, DVDs, or high-definition (480p, 720p, 1080i) broadcasts, your programs will look breathtakingly good.

The set's widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio, Hi-Scan 1080i display, and picture-improvement circuitry let you view a mix of sources at high resolutions, up to 1080i. DRC--Digital Reality Creation MultiFunction circuitry--upconverts standard interlaced (480i) video sources to 960i or progressive-scan 480p, while inputs as high-quality as 720p (720 lines, progressively scanned) are upsampled to full 1080i. Because DRC processes video signals in real time, it creates an image with 4 times the density of the original signal. Sony's MID-X (Multi Image Driver) maintains the integrity of a converted signal by minimizing image loss in the scaling process.

Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p and 720p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. The set's auto 16:9 enhanced mode detects anamorphically encoded widescreen program sources and offers full picture resolution on the video program, wasting none of its usable lines of resolution on the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.

The KV-34HS420's high-voltage regulator maintains consistent image size, despite variations in b rightness during scene changes and channel changes, while magnetic quadra-pole technology reduces "beam spot" distortion and improves corner-to-corner focus and picture sharpness.

ClearEdge VM wideband velocity modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas. The set's 3D digital comb filter compares each horizontal scanning line with the lines above and below it, as well as with the corresponding lines on previous and subsequent video frames. This results in higher horizontal resolution, higher vertical resolution, and reduced video noise.

The KV-34HS420 also employs CineMotion Reverse 3-2 PullDown technology (often called 3:2 pulldown), a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movies in their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.

Finally, Dynamic Focus circuitry automatically adjusts the picture during each scanning line for consistent corner-to-corner sharpness.

Two high-definition component-video inputs grant optimum connection with a DTV decoder and progressive-scan DVD player, while standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodate all DVD players. The set's HDMI interface provides a digital connection with your DTV receiver. HDMI supports standard-definition (SD), enhanced definition (ED), or high-definition (HD) video, plus multi-channel digital audio--all using a single cable.

Choose between rear AV inputs and a set of front AV inputs for extra convenience. A rear AV output offers a switchable fixed- and variable-level analog audio output for hookup with a surround receiver or integrated amplifier.

The set features stereo speakers (with 15 watts per channel) and BBE sound enhancement. You can label the set's video inputs and channels for easy selection. If you don't have Dolby Pro Logic processing or a surround speaker system, the TV's SRS TruSurround will simulate surround sound through any 2 speakers.

Other video technologies include auto white balance, Dynamic Picture Processor circuitry, Trinitone color temperature control, and vertical aperture compensation. An optional accessory for the set is the Sony audio/video cabinet SU-34HX1.

Amazon.com Product Description

Sony's DAV-FR8 Dream System home theater will grace small- to medium-sized spaces with high style, high power, and amazingly space-efficient components. The system features a slot-loading 5-disc DVD-Video/SACD changer with built-in surround-receiver abilities and color-coded speaker terminals, 2 floorstanding speakers (left/right front), a slim center-channel speaker, 2 bookshelf surround speakers, and a stand-alone subwoofer designed to work in concert with the rest of the components to deliver exhilarating, full-bodied surround sound from DVD, CD, MP3 CD, and Super Audio CD (SACD) music sources.

The system's 800 watts (total) are routed through its 7-channel S-Master full-digital amplifier/tuner and enhanced by the Digital Direct twin-drive subwoofer and its dual 6.25-inch woofers. (The amp pumps 114 watts x 5 for front, center, and surround speakers, with 115 watts x 2 for the passive subwoofer). Sony's exclusive S-Master digital amplifier delivers high power and low heat while occupying minimal space--merely 25 percent of the space required by a conventional amplifier.

Surround decoding and processing includes Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby Digital EX (6.1), DTS-ES, and Dolby Pro Logic II (which generates discrete 5.1-channel surround sound from any stereo/2-channel source).

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DAV-FR8 is equipped to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Depending on the disc, SACD music releases provide super high-fidelity multichannel and/or stereo sound, using a high-resolution 1-bit converter to exceed the quality potential found in the standard 16-bit compact disc. The system also offers JPEG image CD slideshows so you can get the most from your favorite digital media right in the comfort of your living room.

Enjoy the DAV-FR8 from the repose of your easy chair with the supplied easy-to-operate Remote Commander remote control. Auxiliary connections include secondary composite- and S-video sources for a camcorder, gaming console, or VCR, and a headphone jack for private listening.

1-0 out of 5 stars FAN SOUND WILL DRIVE YOU CRAZY
I got this notebook today, when I opened it , it looked great. I ts really a beauty to look at. Within 30 minutes of using it I was really upset. The FAN makes a lot of noise, I have had HP and even DELL does not make this much of noise. The laptop gets heated up soo much that you cannot hold it, the meaning of "LAP"TOP loses its meaning. This was a known issue in previous model but never expected Sony not to FIX it. I hope if you want a beauty to look at then buy this good looking crap, I would say its waste of money. I am returning mine very sooooon. Dont bet on Sony customer service, they will not accpept that it is their fault.. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Why wait for the family to email photos to each other when you can print them instantly? The Sony DPP-FP30 pops out professional-quality photos quickly and easily, and it's compatible with both Windows-based PCs and PictBridge digital cameras. Speeds are a little faster when you're printing from your PC--you can expect 4-by-6-inch photo in about 90 seconds, compared to approximately 120 seconds from a digital camera's memory card. It'll only take a few clicks to make your photos look their best, thanks to the included imaging optimization software--reduce red eye, improve colors, or crop the edges.

The dye-sublimation print process incorporates special laminated paper with snap-off edges, which is available in 4-by-6 and 3.5-by-5-inch sizes. This technology allows dye-sub printers to produce great looking photos even though they're rated at lower resolution than comparably priced inkjet models. The DPP-FP30 offers 8-bit color and 300 dpi resolution, producing borderless prints that are resistant to sticky fingerprints, ink smudges, and moisture. This is the player for you: the D1710's supplied AC power adapter accepts inputs from 100 to 240 volts AC (50 or 60 Hz), and the player even reads non-region-encoded DVDs in the European PAL format (there's a switch to choose NTSC or PAL). And the screen's anti-glare, anti-reflective coating lets you view it in bright settings like, say, sun-drenched airplane seats.

The D1710 also comes with an AC adapter and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that provides up to three hours of playback (power consumption depends on the operations of the player, such as screen brightness, volume level, etc.). With the battery pack attached, the unit measures 7.75 x 2.125 x 6 inches and weighs 2.25 pounds. Headphones are not included.

Amazon Product Description

Sony VAIO VGN-A150 Notebook unites desktop PC power and functionality with performance rivaling any desktop. The Centrino Mobile technology runs cool and quiet, while helping to keep the profile light and slim with enhanced battery performance. The VGN-A150 features fast 802.11g wireless connectivity, a large 80 GB hard drive, 1.5 GHz Pentium M processor, 512 MB of installed RAM, a DVD+/-RW drive, 15.4-inch screen, and a bevy of Sony multimedia software.

Sony Series A Display Sizes

The VGN-A190 features a 17" screen.

The Basics
  • Hard Drive: The spacious 80 GB hard drive offers more than enough storage for both your work and home files as well as a multimedia library.
  • Processor: The 1.5 GHz Pentium M processor is near the top of the Centrino speed range. Because of its design, the Intel Pentium M gets more done per clock tick than a Mobile Intel Pentium 4, thus providing the discrepancy in GHz measurement (i.e., 1.7 versus 3.2). The Pentium M processor is designed specifically for low-power mobile usage, and it features the latest in power-saving technologies--ensuring you push your battery and productivity to the max. It also has an L2 cache of 1 MB and a front-side bus (FSB) speed of 400 MHz.
  • Memory: The 512 MB of built-in memory is a good start for power users. It has two memory slots in total, with a maximum memory expansion up to 2 GB (2 x 1 GB).
  • CD/DVD Drive: It is equipped with a combo DVD+/-RW and CD-RW drive. For DVD+R discs, it has a 2.4x write and 4x read speeds. For DVD-R discs, it has a 4x read/write speed. For CDs, it has a 16x write/8x rewrite/24x read speed.
  • Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has an 86-key keyboard and electro-static touch pad.

Along with VGN-A150, the VGN-A160 also features a 15.4" screen.

Sound and Graphics
With the 64 MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 graphics card, the A190 delivers a dazzling visual experience optimized to support the most compelling next-generation 3D gaming environments of today and tomorrow. Sony's exclusive XBRITE LCD technology delivers ultra crisp and super bright graphics, and the Smart Display Sensor automatically adjusts to any projector or display resolution. It also has an AC'97 sound card that's integrated into the main board, and comes with two built-in stereo speakers.

Connectivity and Expansion Slots
The A150 has an integrated 802.11g wireless LAN (which is compatible with the more widespread 802.11b and offers faster data transmission rates). You get a decent--but not overpowering--offering of connectivity options, including both high-speed USB 2.0 and FireWire:

  • 3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
  • 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) ports for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
  • 1 VGA monitor port
  • 1 A/V mini jack
  • 1 PCMCIA (or PC Card) slot (Type I/II)
  • 1 headphone jack and 1 microphone jack
  • 1 Memory Stick slot (Memory Stick Pro compatible)

The CDPCX355 300-disc CD changer puts hours upon hours of music at your fingertips with features like cross-fade sound, text display, and an organization feature that makes it easy to find your favorite songs and albums. The CDPCX355 plays audio CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs, and you can program it to play CDs or tracks one by one, in random order, or in your own customized track order. You can create up to 8 different groups of CDs to quickly jump to certain styles of music or a favorite collection of songs. A hit list memory feature allows you to return to your 32 most frequently played songs instantly. You can browse through all of your CDs by name, so you'll never lose track of what CDs are in the player or what order they are in. You can also custom-label CDs stored in the CDPCX355 for quicker retrieval. The CDPCX355 includes a jog dial control that gives you quick access to individual CDs or tracks. With the jog dial, you can listen to snippets of music or skip tracks you don't like quickly.

For power users or music lovers with a deep library of CDs, the CDPCX355 can synch up with another CD changer. You'll never have to wait for a disc to change to keep the music playing, thanks to a cross-fade feature that brings the audio of one CD down at the same time that a new disc starts to play. By adding a second changer, you can expand your instant access to up to 600 CDs total, and both changers can be controlled by a single remote.

The hybrid pulse digital-to-audio converter reproduces a warm, natural sound from your CDs, making you feel like you were there when the music was recorded. You can easily connect the CDPCX355 to an audio receiver with both analog RCA-type and digital optical outputs. An analog connection instantly synchs the CDPCX355 to another changer, and a Control A-1II cord links the CDPCX355 to any other Sony components in your audio system or home theater. 2-0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality - Poor Service
My CD changer performed flawlessly for about a year and a half. I did not experience any problem with dropping the CD's as it was described by others, and I was delighted with my purchase. I was especially enjoying the shuffle play feature, which allowed me to play all my favorite CD's without having to listen them in the same order. After the initial happy period, the player suddenly started to skip on every CD I had. I cleaned the CD lens, but did not solve the problem. Since it was already out of warranty, I decided to send the unit to Sony, hoping that the good performance will return after the repair. Well, after about a month waiting the unit arrived from Sony with a broken door panel and in a non-operating condition. I had returned the player to Sony and after countless telephone calls and aggravation, I had achieved that they repaired the damages. Another month passed by and the unit finally arrived this time in working condition. After a short time however, it had developed a problem that certain disks just do not play. I have to power off and power on the player and it works again. In my opinion, a CD player should last longer than a year and half and this is not the Sony quality that we were all used to. I will be avoiding Sony products in the future.

5-0 out of 5 stars Keep It The On The Level!
I just had to write this review for all the reviewers who are complaining about this machine dropping their discs in the back of the unit or getting jammed or destroying their CDs.HELLO,READ THE MANUAL!THIS PLAYER MUST BE ON A LEVEL SURFACE SO IT CAN DROP THE DISC IN THE RIGHT SPOT!I use this machine for hours on end every day for over a year and it's never had any problems so GET YOUR LEVEL OUT!

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing
I purchased this product from an online retailer and had it for a total of five days before it broke. I had loaded about 200 cd's into it, and one jammed while it was playing on the random feature. The jammed CD was eventually broken in half in order to remove the rest of the good ones. The turntable ceased to work and would make a grinding noise when the power was turned on. I have never owned a Sony product that did not malfunction in some way (walkman, discman, playstation, playstation 2). This exact problem happened to a friend of mine with the same product, but he had his for over a year before it broke. (Just long enough to expire the warranty.) If you're looking for a high capacity changer, I highly recommend you look into a Pioneer or JVC changer first. As long as people keep buying cheap junk, they're going to keep making it.

1-0 out of 5 stars CD Destroyer
At first we were delighted with this Sony CD player, but it was not long before we determined that it was destroying our CD collection. Fortunately, we read a review on Amazon from another customer that lost many of his CD's to the same Sony unit. Over 20 of our CD's were damaged before we pinpointed the problem to the changer and replaced it with a Pioneer 200 disc changer (which we've had only two weeks but so far it appears OK). I am disappointed that Sony continues to market this defective equipment and as a result, we generally try to shop for other brands. If you value your CD collection, a Sony CD changer is likely to disappoint you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super!
I've had mine for four years, and never had a problem. I use it every day, often for hours on end. I love that I can store my cds in it, and it's very easy to use. I think it's just great, and would buy another in a heartbeat. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An outstanding multimedia solution from Sony!
My display is being put to dual use in a Windows XP / Macintosh OS X setup. It works greats in both environments. The picture is crisp and fluid at the same time, meaning that text looks sharp while pixilation is indiscernible when viewing high quality digital photos.

With the PC: The display is set at 1280 x 768 resolution and is truly excellent.

With the Mac: I use this display with my Apple iBook.Initially this caused a problem with the fact that the iBook does not output in widescreen format.I downloaded a fix to my iBook called "Screen Spanning Doctor" at http://www.rutemoeller.com/mp/ibook/ibook_e.html (WARNING, do not select the "clamshell" option during initial setup as this will not allow your iBook to properly dissipate heat during use and can cause serious damage to your iBook). Now I can display my iBook in widescreen at 1280 x 768 resolution.

The truly awesome feature of this display however is that I do not have to switch any cables around. You can hook up a computer with an appropriate video card to the DVI connection port, a laptop to the standard VGA port, cable TV to the 75-ohm VHF/UHF coaxial port, standard or Super Video VCR or camcorder to the Standard/S-Video port, and your HD receiver / Satellite receiver / Progressive-Scan DVD Player to the Component video port. You can easily switch between all of them using the supplied Sony infrared remote control (RM-333). There is even Picture-in-Picture so you can watch TV while your working on the computer without over-taxing your computers processor and video card.

Sound quality is very good using the three internal speakers (2 stereo & a sub-woofer) if set to SRS WOW.

Overall I am very pleased with this display ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The Sony GV-D800 makes digital video more portable than ever. This handy video walkman acts as a digital VCR, recording footage from TVs or camcorders onto Digital8 cassettes, while also letting users view digital video on the included 4-inch active matrix LCD screen. As an extra bonus, the device also lets users edit Digital8 video while on the move without requiring an expensive laptop computer. The editing function offers a simple way to assemble up to 20 scenes automatically, and then play them back with such features as frame-by-frame advance and slow motion. Editing is enhanced by the 2x playback and playback zoom, which allows the editor to zoom into a selected area of video for closer inspection.

The GV-D800 takes advantage of digital technology advances to ensure playback with up to 500 lines of resolution and three times the color bandwidth of VHS tapes. Digital video also offers significantly less video noise and deterioration. The GV-D800 is also backward-compatible with older Hi8 and 8mm recordings, letting users watch previously recorded material in either SP or LP modes. The device is no slouch from an audio perspective, either, with 16-bit recording capability that offers the same high-quality sound as a compact disc. In addition, it lets users transfer the recorded signal via iLink to a compatible digital video device so they can add narration or a music soundtrack without disturbing the original sound.

The GV-D800 offers several inputs and outputs for efficient component connection, including S-video and composite video inputs and outputs, an iLink (IEEE 1394) DV input and output, and a Super LaserLink wireless connection that transmits audio and video wirelessly via infrared to an optional LaserLink receiver at a distance of up to 26 feet. The LaserLink system reduces the need for long video cables or clumsy adapters. In addition, the device is compact and lightweight, measuring a mere 5.87 x 2.62 x 5.38 inches (W x H x D) and weighing a bit over 2 pounds.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fine TV set (and it's mine)
The quality has gone up and the prices are finally coming down on name-brand LCD television sets (unfortunately, this one has gone up 15% since the pre-order price offered by Amazon).Space considerations dictated a unit without the bulky back-side protruberance of a conventional CRT set, so I took a deep breath and pre-ordered this newest Sony model.

To begin with, the main advantage is the shallow case.If you have room for the old cathode ray model, hang on to it and save yourself a small fortune. That said, this Sony LCD unit performs better than conventional sets in some areas and is of at least equal quality in most others. Its superiority is most noticeable where numbers, titles, and animation are concerned--all are razor sharp beyond my expectations.Human figures and flesh tones can be a bit more inconsistent than on a cathode ray tube.Occasionally, the contrast is excessive, regardless of how much I tweak the settings. Also, the "high definition" effect does not necessarily enhance the "life-like" quality of the person on the screen. If anything, it has a tendency to make the figure seem somewhat artificial to my way of seeing.

The set is ready-to-go out of the box, and the remote has minimal but convenient buttons for instantly changing brightness, contrast, and picture size ratios. As for the stereo sound, complete with "sub-woofer" (apparently defined by Sony as a speaker larger than a silver dollar), I wouldn't make purchase contingent on that consideration. The audio is fine, as television sound goes, but I have yet to experience anything out of the ordinary.I tested it with a jazz CD.By boosting treble and bass to the max, I was able to coax from the set undistorted balanced sound with fairly alive cymbals and an audible bass while maintaining an adequately present mid-range.

Even when the power is off, the case is understated, trim, and elegant. Moreover, my cat can't jump on it and make it come crashing to the floor, which was the fate of this set's precariously balanced predecessor.

[Since I wrote the above, my wife has condemned the LCD image, claiming it lacks depth and warmth."Chancun a son gout," I say.At least I won't have to share the set with "Guiding Light."] ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

These Sony headphones are super-lightweight, comfortable and safe. They have been designed with Sony's Sports Walkman series in mind. The MDR-A35G stereo headphones have a thin, lightweight and adjustable headband which allow you to fit them perfectly to your head's shape. The headphones are foldable (via three hinges) which allow for greater transportability; you can pack these away in your workout bag or in a jeans pocket. The moisture guard mechanism pulls sweat away from the ear canal, keeping your headphones drier and thus, better fitting and sounding. If you plan on listening to your MP3 player or radio while treadmilling in the gym, this feature will be greatly appreciated. The headphones are also water resistant; runners in wet environs will certainly find this advantageous.

The open-air design removes undesirable resonance by allowing outside air to pass through the headphones; the result is a better sounding headphone. The open-air design is also a key factor in keeping you safe while you exercise. The headphones allow outside noises like horns, passing bikers and oncoming dogs to meet your ears, even with music playing. With sixteen millimeter drivers, although miniscule, you can expect to hear a good bass sound. Neodymium magnets, a rare feature on such economically priced headphones, provide maximum energy with minimal size. Meanwhile, the Sony Acoustic Turbo circuit is included for high efficiency; it gets high sonic output from your portable stereo, and extends bass response.

The MDR-A35G's oxygen-free copper (OFC) Y-style cord is double-sided and is 3.9 feet long, allowing for ample movement and separation from the sound source. The gold-plated, L-shaped stereo mini-plug fits mini-plug jacks, not the full-size stereo jacks. The headphones are a flat black color.

3-0 out of 5 stars practical but not durable
The quality of sound, especially the base, was wonderful. The collapsing headphones were extremely practical and slowed down the wear and tear of them in my backback, at the gym, etc.

Nonetheless, after only 5 months, they were broken. This was not because of the collapsible section, but rather because of the rapid fraying of the part of the cord around the jack where the headphones are plugged in to the discman.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect!
I bought these for $20, (good price for these), and dont regret it at all. They are light and stay on your head very well. I was on a trampoline doning flips and they stood on perfectly. They are also very comfortable. They stay in play and dont move in your ear so the plastic wont rubb against your ear. They sound great too. I had sony MDR-EX51LP's (more expensive) and i like these alot better. Base doesn't overtake the sound, vocals sound perfect, and background is great too! So for 20 bucks, these are the best you will get!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this thing..!
Bought this a few days back, and absolutely love it. The best thing about it is its weight; its so light, I often forget if its still on! A bit pricey, but then what the heck, a sony is never expected to be for the common money-minded man (well, I confess I've a weakness for gizmos!)

Yup, the bass is not as rich as one would expect, but its not bad either. What I mean is, I did not regret it for anything.

A good buy. Wish it was a bit cheaper, though! It makes up in its looks for all it lacks in the bass. So, no regrets.

5-0 out of 5 stars great sound and comfort!
I have always preferred the vertical in-the-ear style headphones since they were first introduced in the late 80's. These headphones are very comfortable to wear for several hours at a time. You will barely feel them. That's great, but how do they sound? They have excellent frequency response at 10 - 23,000Hz, and great sensitivity at 108 dB/mW. You will get good bass out of the tiny 16mm drivers. They are also water resistant, so you can wear them while exercising or in the rain. They are designed so the moisture will run down the band and drip off the bottom. I highly recommend these portable (and foldable) headphones.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good headphones, not for everyone though
These are a good set of headphones. They are ok at everything, great at nothing. Bass, midbass, treble are all average. Where these headphones standout is when working out, especially running.

They allow you to hear just enough to make them safe but filter out most of the noise. But comfort is their biggest bonus. Earbud headphones falloff. Wrap-arounds leave your ears red and sore. Closed ear types absorb sweat, and look odd. These are the perfect compromise. They don't fall out, don't pinch your ear, and they have a canal for sweat to roll down and out of your ear.

Bottom line, if you want library headphones look somewhere else. You want a workout set this is your model. ... Read more

5) SOFTWARE is the only con. sonic stage is a very irritating software. i found another alternative. go to the sony website and check out the softwares for the sony vaio media player 40gb. download the vaio music transfer. that can be used for the NWE405 too. just simply drag and drop into the box.

SONY has grab the mp3 market if it promotes this player well.
overall the best player ive ever purchased. the IPOD shuffle is not even worth comparing to this player.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sony NW-E405 Network Walkman - Review
Hey all,

I purchased this item this morning and i have fully explored its functionality. I'm simply very impressed.

Firstly it looks really attractive, looks being the first thing i notice about any walkman hardware. Every button is perfectly positioned on the player, most being at the right hand end on a control stick. The control stick is used for locking the player and also controlling the track navigation. Finally, the end of the control stick is where the headphone jack plugs in.

The LCD display is very compactly designed and is very smoothe in animation and navigation. Through this menu and the control stick you can navigate your library of songs by groups, namely artist and album. There is a display button which controls what is being displayed. The options are the track listing as default, a clock style track information display and a bubbles screensaver/animation. Note that the screen turns off after a short while to save battery.

The sound quality is very good and it has a couple of simple settings and two preset options. You can listen to the music in the default setting, which in my opinion is lacking in bass, but you can also adjust the bass and treble in the two presets. Then these presets can be chosen.

In the past i have found that the SonicStage software which is supplied has been slow and buggy. This is an irritation when importing large amounts of songs into the application. This is not the case with this latest version. Again Sony appear to have made it necessary for you to convert WMA files to the atrac format before transferring them to the device, although this is all done for you and quite hastely.

I have tried this device with Windows Media Player 10 and you can successfully transfer the music, but since WMP can't do the conversion it is unplayable on the device.

Lastly, i have discovered that this device can be used as a simple pen drive. Through windows explorer you can transfer any media to it you like. It won't be registered with the player, but just stored on its flash chip. I would also like to say that i recommend you buying some good headphones to add to and take advantage the good sound quality the device provides.

Hope this helps.

Amazon.com Product Description

Built around high power and full-featured excellence, Sony's potent yet compact DAV-FR9 Dream System home theater features a slot-loading 5-disc DVD-Video/SACD changer with built-in surround-receiver abilities and color-coded speaker terminals, 4 floorstanding speakers (left/right front and surround), a slim center-channel speaker, and a stand-alone subwoofer designed to work in concert with the rest of the components to deliver exhilarating, full-bodied surround sound from DVD, CD, MP3 CD, and Super Audio CD (SACD) music sources.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DAV-FR9 is equipped to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Choose from progressive-scan component-video outputs, composite-video, or S-video outputs. (Older TVs may require an RF modulator or video switcher to convert composite- or S-video to a threaded RF coaxial jack.)

Enjoy the DAV-FR9 from the repose of your easy chair with the supplied easy-to-operate Remote Commander remote control. Auxiliary connections include secondary composite- and S-video sources for a camcorder, gaming console, or VCR, and a headphone jack for private listening.

The DAV-FR9 system's design is sure to be a visual centerpiece. Glazed with a metallic frost, the system will illuminate any room with its slim, elegant speakers and attractive, brushed-aluminum chassis.
