Amazon.com Product Description

Sharp's DV-NC150U combination DVD player and 4-head, hi-fi stereo VCR saves shelf space while enhancing your home theater options. Especially convenient is its ability to record content to a VHS videocassette while simultaneously playing back a crystal-clear DVD, letting you watch a new movie now while taping the news or a favorite program for viewing at a later time. The DV-NC150U is easy to use and was designed with convenience, flexibility, and home-entertainment value in mind. The unit is compatible with a variety of media, including DVD-Video, DVD-RW/R, DVD+RW/R, audio CD, and MP3 music files recorded on CD-R/CD-RW discs.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DV-NC150U stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

For simpler setups, a single composite-video jack channels signals from both the DVD player and the VCR, while the DVD player also offers an S-video connection for compatible TVs. Likewise, the DVD player and VCR share a single set of stereo analog (left/right) RCA audio outs, with DVD offering the flexibility of an additional set of stereo analog jacks and a coaxial digital-audio output for routing both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals to a full-featured audio/video receiver.

This model's 4-head design ensures smooth slow-motion play (forward and reverse) and clear still-frame images, and with hi-fi sound the unit's VCR records and plays back stereo audio tracks. If you route the stereo output to an AV receiver, you can even enjoy 4-channel (left, center, right, and monaural surround) Dolby Pro Logic mixes from TV and Dolby-encoded cassettes. Other VCR features include auto rewind, auto repeat (great for trade shows), and auto/manual tracking adjustments.

Rapid Play spins a DVD at slightly faster or slightly slower than normal speed (approximately 1.3x to 0.8x normal speed) while maintaining normal pitch for the soundtrack. This feature works only with Dolby Digital-encoded DVDs. Resume play (DVD/CD) lets you resume playback from the point at which the player last stopped.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great TV!
We got one for our bedroom to replace the big old clunker. This is an awesome TV.

Benefits:
- Picture is tremendously clear and sharp
- Sound is great
- It looks very slick -- it is beautifully industrially designed. The attention to detail in design extends even to the rear of the unit, where they have cable covers and wire wrapping mounts, so it can stand on a table and look good from all sides.
- Enough connections for several devices to plug in.

Only complaint (which may not matter to you depending on whether you use headphones) is that the there's no way to leave the headphones plugged in and control whether the external speakers are on or off -- if the headphones are plugged in the external speakers go off. For bedroom use, this means that you can't just leave the headphones in and use the remote for sound on/off, and since the jack is covered in the back of the unit, its a little bit of work to plug and unplug it each time.

Other than that minor oversight, this unit is worth every penny. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great microwave, little tough to mount
Its a pretty big and heavy unit so having someone around to help mount would be a good thing. I found that sometimes the clips in the back have a little trouble popping in all the way, unless its lined up just right.

I didnt like the wall mount screws a whole lot as well as the fact there is only 4 to hold on the whole bracket (they note that you should have at least 2 in studs). They have holes drilled in the mount all the way across, so what I did was located two studs, drilled some 1/16th pilot holes in the bracket where they were and sunk (5) 1 3/4" drywall screws in each stud from top to bottom of the bracket to attach it to the wall. I didnt want to worry about the microwave falling off and either seriously injuring someone or smashing my new ceramic top stove.

Also be careful if drilling the top cabinet mount holes with the microwave in place, the bit can easily destroy the screw hole :) I ended up replacing the two small upper cabinet mount screws with 1/2" self tapping bolts. So the cinnimon powder doesnt quite sit level up there in the cupboard.. but the microwave is definately not falling out of my wall!

As for functionality, the microwave is nice and powerful, the unsightly buttons are hidden behind the door (you punch in the settings when you open it). A note of caution, dont put anything in it without the carousel tray to heat. I had a small paper nacho bowl in there and it almost started the glue on fire in 20 seconds.

Another note... The carousel tray does not ship in this box well, mine arrived broken in half. My only option was to ship the whole unit back (weighs like 80 lbs). I lucked out because my old microwave was a Sharp and the carousel tray is identical. ... Read more

64. Sharp LC-45GD6U 45" AQUOS Flat-Panel LCD TV with Integrated HDTV Tuner
list price: $8,499.99
(price subject to change: see help)
Asin: B0002TX7S6
Catlog: CE
Manufacturer: Sharp
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France | Japan

Amazon.com Product Description

Sharp's stylish LC-45GD6U may be projection-sized in its screen, but the 45-inch LCD TV is a picture-frame thin 4.2 inches, letting you mount it in spots where a projection set would never fit. The HDTV- and PC-compatible Advanced Super View high-definition television houses both NTSC and ATSC (HDTV) tuners and all necessary inputs and outputs, so there's no need for supplementary components; the detailed, 1,920 x 1,080-resolution television is ready to go right out of its box.

The AQUOS LC-45GD6U offers a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio to match your favorite movies, and full compatibility with high-definition video sources up to 1080i. Mounted just below the screen are 2 detachable, high-aperture aluminum speakers powered by 10 watts per channel.

A handy PC Card slot lets you record still images and video on a PC Card and view them on the TV, and Sharp's proprietary Quick Shoot video circuit ensures a lightning-quick response time of less than 12 ms for smooth-as-silk video and gaming graphics (easily one of the fastest screens available). The set's authorized CableCARD ability means the set will also receive digital cable television systems services directly from the cable operator without requiring a bulky, external cable box.

LCD screens offer a number of benefits over CRT monitors and televisions, including general ease of use, freedom from eye strain (no screen flickering or radiation emissions), quiet operation (no high-pitch "flyback" noise, an issue with CRT TVs), accurate image geometry (no curvature distortion or susceptibility to magnetic interference from, say, speakers), long screen life (no risk of image burn-in), space savings, and light weight/easy positioning. They also tend to be cheaper and, to some eyes, slightly more natural looking than their plasma flat-panel counterparts, which usually "spec" higher (higher brightness, higher contrast ratio).

The LC-45GD6U's Advanced Super View/black TFT (thin-film-transistor) screen offers exceptionally wide (170- by 170-degree) viewing angles and an extraordinary contrast ratio of 800:1 for super-black blacks. Its high brightness (450 cd/m2) ensures wide dynamic range for vivid colors, great depth, and realism. You can place it anywhere--near windows, doors, or other light sources--and its picture will remain vivid. And, with its 60,000-hour lamp life, the backlight life is long enough to give you viewing pleasure for many years.

Connections consist of 2 high-definition component-video inputs, 1 DVI-I (Digital Visual Interface-Integrated) input, 1 HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) input, 2 i.Link (IEEE 1394 inputs), 3 composite-video inputs, and 2 S-video input. An audio/video output (composite- and S-video with stereo analog audio) facilitates hookup with a surround receiver, DVR, VCR, or other destination.

DVI-I is a direct-digital DVI terminal capable of transmitting both analog and digital video data from PCs and video cards. HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV or monitor. HDMI supports standard-definition (SD), enhanced definition (ED), or high-definition (HD) video, plus multi-channel digital audio--all using a single cable. It transmits all ATSC HDTV standards and supports up to 8-channel digital audio, with bandwidth to spare to accommodate future enhancements and requirements.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent TV for your Kitchen!
Excellent television! The picture is beautiful and it was a breeze to set up. From box to counter and we were watching tv in 5 minutes. We purchased this tv specifically for use in our kitchen and its perfect for that use. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super Product
Its simply marvelous. I am not an LCD fan and Actually I have been very disappointed in the technology until I watched the 13inch screens and my faith was restored. When I saw that Aquos was in the 15" I snapped it up. Its sound quality is excellent great workmanship, the picture speaks for itself. I am thrilled with the performance as my CD/DVD player worked so well. and had the Good fortune of witnessing Josh Groban on PBS
belting out some wonderful music in stereo from those powerful little speakers it was like a concert hall. I am very pleased with the Sharp Aquos and the talent I was able to receive over it. Best to Josh Groban his talent is a very rare Gift from God.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for My Application
My Travel Trailer had a flip-up TV shelf in the Bedroom, but it stuck out of the wall so far when being used with a conventional 13" TV that
I kept hitting my head on it when I would make bed or up in the night.
The 15" Aquos is perfect and with mounting bracket I freed up my space. The Aquos TV has a wonderful picture and is the easiest
TV I have ever used. Would recommend this product for all, especially in RV applications or tight places.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sleek and Stylish

5-0 out of 5 stars sharp 13 in lcd
beautiful picture, nice and lightweight; I also got the sanus 2 way wall mount which is excellent, strong and I also highly recommend

5-0 out of 5 stars You Won't Find Better 13" LCD
We were looking for an under-cabinet TV for a new kitchen project. We couldn't have found a better choice than Sharp's 13" Aquos.

The white model worked best with our kitchen decor (other choices are silver and black).

The Aquos is incredibly well-designed. You can set it on a surface with the default stand, or mount it to hang under a cabinet with the included mounting kit.

Installation was a little tricky. I really wanted to hide all of the wires and TV cable up under the cabinet. The under-mount includes a stylish, color-coordinated box for this purpose, but getting all of the wires inside was a bit of a challenge. I ultimately made a trip to the hardware store for longer bolts as those included were about 1/2" shorter than needed for the thickness of our counters.

With this small hurdle cleared, I was able to under-mount the Aquos, and then really began to appreciate the design. Wires and cable are completely hidden. The TV cable and electric input flows down through the inside of the swing arm to the back of the TV. The rear of the the Aquos has inputs anything you could connect to a full-sized TV. A snap-on panel reveals the inputs and hides them once you've attached whatever wires you need to connect.

With setup done, sit back and enjoy the Aquos' crisp LCD picture and clear sound. The stylish Aquos is a joy to behold, and quickly becomes the centerpiece of your kitchen.

The Aquos is not just beautiful; it's a perfect marriage of form and function. The LCD rotates 180 degrees left to right, and the swing arm folds up to stash the unit under the cabinet, thus freeing up a little extra cabinet space. I never fold it up, however. It just looks so gorgeous hanging in its normal spot. A stylish remote is included.

Even customer service is great. I had an issue that I couldn't find in the manual (I accidentally reset the audio to receive the Spanish language translation on some channels). I left an e-mail with customer service, but didn't really expect much help. To my surprise I had an e-mail within two hours that solved the problem.

Bravo, Aquos!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great anyplace you don't have a lot of room
This is a fantastic TV! I was a little unsure whether an LCD TV would be OK in a room that gets a lot of sun, but I am most impressed by the brightness of the picture. The colors are vibrant, and the clarity of the picture is amazing. I mounted it to the wall with a Sanus VM2 wall mount, which it allows you to swing out and tilt the TV when you are watching it and push it back flat against the wall when you aren't. It looks fantastic in my kitchen and is very unobtrusive and attractive when laying flat against the wall. I am delighted with this purchase, and found the 13" was plenty big enough for viewing in the kitchen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Kitchen
Ideal kitchen counter size, vibrant display color, sharp picture quality and easy set-up characterize the Sharp LC-13E1U Aquous. I debated 13" vs. 15" and am very happy with the stylish 13". Sound quality is exceptional. Recommend highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Twice the picture size in half the counter space!
Great picture and nice styling, I am very impressed with this Sharp flat panel TV. Lots of features, compact, and reasonably priced. Best of all, Sharp's EASY SET-UP feature had this puppy out of the box, hooked to the cable, and working, in about 10 minutes - fully programmed. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use... easy to need repair
I had this camera for little over a 1.5 yrs. It need repairs FIVE TIMES! The last three times it was sent in, the problem wasn't fixed so Sears let me trade for a newer version, VL-AH151U, free of charge. I didn't even need a warranty. GOD BLESS SEARS!

4-0 out of 5 stars All new options with the lowest price
Its a very good camcorder, it has all options with the lowest price in the market. Since I leaved near a high voltage cable ligne, the picture copied from the camcorder to the VCR videotape was unstable, also if you record near any high voltage cable the picture will show instability.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love my New Sharp Viewcam
This is my third camcorder. I have had a VHS camcorder it was heavy and had a little view finder. Then I had a VHS-C It was a little better. But It was still hard to use. You had to put the tapes into the tape adapter. It was hard to try to operate it and look through the viewfinder. I just bought this Sharp Viewcam and I love it. I have a lazy right eye and using the other camcorders I had to use my left eye. It was kinda hard. The Sharp viewcam I don't have to use just one eye I can use both. I can video tape and use the special affects without stopping and trying to find the right button. They are right there on the screen. And when I did playback throught my VCR the picture was great. I think I made a right choice. Because the Sharp viewcam is fun and easy to use. I a mom on three kids and I want to be able to catch special events. And I know with this camcorder I will have fun taping things the kids do.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!
This is a great price for such a fantastic camera! It's amazing! Great for home movies and the effects are a nice touch. It's light-weight, too, so you can take it anywhere! I'd give this camera 500 stars if i could!

I've owned the camera two years and it's needed repair twice. The camera must be sent off and takes about six weeks to two months for return. It is now needing repair once more ... also it is difficult to see images in bright sunlight. ... Read more

70. Sharp LC-15B6U-S 15" AQUOS HDTV-Ready Flat-Panel LCD Television
list price: $649.99
(price subject to change: see help)
Asin: B0001WV6DC
Catlog: CE
Manufacturer: Sharp
Sales Rank: 5033
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France | Japan

Amazon.com Product Description

PleASINg to the eyes when it's off as well as when it's on, Sharp's LC-15B6U-S LCD TV is little more than 2 inches deep yet produces a vivid, 15-inch image using Sharp's proprietary Advanced Super View LCD panel. The space-saving set is a member of Sharp's acclaimed AQUOS line, and it provides an ideal means for enjoying TV, DVDs, and/or videocassettes in the kitchen, bedroom, or dorm room. The monitor includes a built-in 181-channel cable tuner--feed it a cable-TV signal and you've got a high-resolution video display and a full-fledged television.

The screen's 4:3 aspect-ratio is perfectly suited to most broadcast TV programs. This is an EDTV monitor, which means it's a step closer to high-definition or HDTV than standard TVs. When used with a progressive-scan DVD player (or 480p-output DTV set-top box) you'll get seamless, razor-sharp images from your favorite movies and concert videos. The set gives you a higher contrast ratio and wider viewing angles than conventional LCD screens--500:1 and a full 170 degrees viewing angle, vertical and horizontal--while its black TFT anti-glare coating makes it bright enough to view its rich colors with ease, even in well-lit rooms.

LCD screens offer a number of benefits over CRT monitors and televisions, including general ease of use, freedom from eye strain (no screen flickering or radiation emissions), quiet operation (no high-pitch "flyback" noise, an issue with CRT TVs), accurate image geometry (no curvature distortion or susceptibility to magnetic interference from, say, speakers), long screen life (with no risk of image burn-in), space savings, light weight/easy positioning, and energy efficiency (most LCDs use substantially less power than their CRT equivalents). They also tend to be cheaper and, to some eyes, slightly more natural looking than their plasma flat-panel counterparts, which usually "spec" higher (higher brightness, higher contrast ratio).

Weighing in at about under 12 pounds (with stand), the LC-15B6U-S is easy to position and reposition. The unit sits comfortably on any flat surface with the included stand, which detaches for wall mounting (with any compatible mounting kit, none included).

Component- and composite-video inputs accommodate everything from DVD players to VCRs, camcorders, and gaming consoles, and the set's stereo speakers are powered by 2.1 watts per channel. With the LC-15B6U-S's NTSC, PAL, and SECAM compatibility, you can view video sources from the U.S., Western Europe, and Eastern Europe, and all will appear properly formatted, provided you have the proper region decoding for any DVD sources. The screen offers 640 x 480 (VGA) resolution.

Other features include auto clock, which automatically sets the TV's time clock for display on demand, a remote control, SAP (second audio program, for listening to alternate language tracks on select cable broadcasts), and V-Chip parental control (which lets you block TV content based on content ratings).

Amazon.com Product Description

Sharp's LC-15S1UB 15-inch LCD TV is a sleek, compact, high-performance flat-panel television from the AQUOS line of liquid crystal displays. The display uses Sharp's proprietary Advanced Super View/black TFT panel to give you extra brightness, a 500:1 contrast ratio, and superior 170-degree viewing angles, which means you can position the television anywhere--even near light sources--and still get clear, bright picture. The built-in tuner lets you plug your cable line directly into the television to watch up to 181 channels out of the box.

The LC-15S1UB comes with an easel-style stand for the tabletop, or the stand can be removed and the set can be wall-mounted using most of Sharp's mounting brackets (not included). The two built-in speakers are positioned below the screen rather than on the side, which makes the television narrower than typical LCD TVs of the same size. The speakers each supply 2.1 watts of power, for a total power output of 4.2 watts. Also included is a full-function remote control (2 AAA batteries included).

You get two composite-video inputs for convenient hookup to your favorite gaming console or camcorder. There are also two rear S-video inputs and one component-video input. The television is EDTV-capable, so it is compatible with progressive-scan DVD players.

Amazon.com Product Description

The Aquos LC-15B2U is less than 3 inches deep and offers a 15-inch screen (diagonally measured). It has Sharp's proprietary Advanced Super View LCD panel, giving it a higher contrast ratio and wider viewing angles than was previously possible. Aquos monitors are characterized by bright, precise picture quality, a sleek design, a bright picture, and Sharp's Black TFT technology. Because it has one of the brightest available monitors, you can put the TV set anywhere--even near windows, doors, and other light sources--and its picture will remain vivid. With its 60,000-hour lamp life, Sharp's LCD backlight will give you viewing pleasure for many years.

The 15-inch ASV panel is Sharp's proprietary design. The Black TFT-enhanced screen combines an antiglare treatment with a low-reflection coating to ensure brighter pictures and more vivid colors than you'd get from conventional LCD displays under similar conditions. The monitor is compatible with NTSC, PAL, and SECAM video formats. A built-in 181-channel tuner lets you plug cable TV right into the LC-15B2U and start watching. Two speakers frame the unit on either side for stereo sound.

An onboard image inverter steps in to flip the image upside-down if you need to hang the TV in an unconventional manner. The 160-by-160-degree viewing angles are so wide that you can watch the monitor from anywhere in the room. The included carry handle-table stand is the ultimate in convenience. Carry the monitor easily from room to room, or detach the one-piece stand for wall mounting. The monitor consumes 60 percent less power than do other comparably CRT direct-view televisions of comparable size. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars this TV is great--and we don't watch much TV!
We got this mainly for it's space-saving features, mostly to keep the TV out of our way. We don't have cable, and were worried the picture would not be so good. It is better than good, it is simply great! (but you do seem to need an external antenna.) I am amazed at how sleek it is!!! Highly recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
The Sharp 15 Inch Flat Screen TV is wonderful. I gave one to my husband last year for Christmas and it is the only TV (we have four TVs) watched on a daily bases. We have a large screen TV however it does not have clean, clear picture that the Sharp Flat screen TV has. Thanks Sharp and keep up the good work.

Amazon.com Product Description

The Sharp 27-C540 27-inch television has a high-focus, dark-tint picture tube and inputs for DVD players, VCRs, game consoles, or camcorders. Its three-line digital comb filter separates the color signal from the black-and-white signal to reduce noise and artifacts resulting in higher picture quality. With MTS (multichannel TV sound) stereo and SAP (second audio program), the 27-C540 can receive and decode stereo and SAP wherever they are available.

The EZ Setup feature is activated the first time the television is turned on, and will automatically prompt you to attach the cable or antenna and start the initial channel setup with the touch of just one button. The built-in V-Chip is an electronic blocking device that lets parents control the programming to prevent children from viewing questionable programs. Using the onscreen display and ratings system, you can screen programs according to age and content.

Features include trilingual onscreen menus, color temperature control, sleep timer, closed captioning, V-compression, and VMS (velocity modulation scanning). V-compression allows a viewer to watch an anamorphic widescreen movie in its true form by squeezing the scan lines and pixels into the middle of the screen. This enables you to see the whole film image at a higher resolution with no distortion. VMS increases the refresh rate of an image, yielding a brighter and more accurate picture.

You get a rear component-video input to connect your DVD player, satellite, or other video sources for high picture quality. There are rear S-video and composite-video inputs, as well. Also included is a universal light-up remote with DVD control (2 AAA batteries included).

The VC-H965U from Sharp offers all the convenience of VHS recording and playback--a great way to time-shift TV viewing and share camcorder footage with loved ones, and the only way to enjoy an extensive library of videocassettes. Your camcorder or gaming console plugs right into the VC-H965U's front panel for hassle-free connections.

This model's four-head design ensures smooth slow-motion play (forward and reverse) and clear still-frame images, while hi-fi sound records and plays back stereo audio tracks. If you route the stereo output to an AV receiver, you can even enjoy four-channel (left, center, right, and monaural surround) Dolby Pro Logic mixes from TV and Dolby-encoded cassettes. Sharp Super Picture enhances fine image details, while 19 micron Exact-Track heads ensure the clearest possible picture when recording or viewing in EP (extended-play) mode. With EZ Set Up, all VCR tuner channels and clock are automatically set up for both air and cable channels.

With Skip Search, the VCR zooms forward in 30-second intervals to bypass commercials, while Instant Replay quickly performs reverse scanning in 20-second intervals, then resumes playback. Rewind speed is approximately 54 seconds with a T-120 tape (the speed may be slower for tapes other than T-60, T-90, or T-120). The unit comes with a universal remote control, which operates the VCR and basic functions of various TVs, cable boxes, and some digital satellite receivers. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars No problems - great machine
I had thought at first that this VCR did almost everything well, but was worried because of a dark picture during playback. As it turns out, though, it was the copy protection interfering with the picture on the TV. Because I have a TV/VCR combo, it would darken everything from the new VCR. On other TVs without a built-in VCR, this Sharp model works perfectly.

So it's got a great picture on any normal television, the sound is crisp and in stereo, which is a big plus. And its features are all clearly explained in the directions and easy to figure out on the remote. I was nervous about the backlit display being distracting or too bright, but it's not at all. Automatic tracking is good, but the option to manually track is nice to have. The fast rewind and fast forward are good about being careful with the tapes and slows them before stopping or playing them.

This Sharp model was the clear winner in my shopping research, and my only complaint in the first place was the dark playback - but upon discovering that the problem doesn't lie with this VCR, I would recommend this unit to anyone interested in a good, solid, quality, and featured-packed VCR for a reasonable price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great VCR, Great Price
It was time to replace my old Sanyo VCR, and I went on the hunt for a new one. I read many reviews, compared prices, ratings, features, and finally settled on this particular Sharp VCR. All I can say it I love it so far.

It is light, at least, lighter than my other. It rewinds super fast, but slows down before reaching the end of the tape which prevents it from getting yanked apart. It automatically sets the time (what a time saver too). It does an automatic channel scan and time set the first time you turn it on.

The one thing that pleases me more than anything is it plays tapes perfectly that wouldn't play correctly on my other VCRs. Especially EP recorded tapes, and older previous rental videos that I could get the tracking to work. Another thing I really like is the double fast forward and double rewind you can use when you're actually watching the tape.

If you are going to buy a new VCR, definitely do research into what features you want, price ranges, etc. But keep this one in mind. It's a great VCR, and it is priced well too!

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE THIS VCR!!!
This is a great VCR. I have had it for a few months and I had the previous version for several years. I probably use the VCR for recording or playing something two or three times a day. It has a super fast rewind, which is fantastic (for when you are trying to make it to Blockbuster by noon).

I just wanted to write a review to say that there is a way to reset the counter, but clearly people have trouble figuring out how to do it. It is rather simple, you just make the display show the counter (by pressing the display button the the remote) and then you press the cancel button (on the remote) and it resets the counter to 00:00:00.

Another thing, I noticed when I was reading deciding which VCR to buy that a reviewer or two said something about this not having a manual and I was very concerned by this. Well, it's not true at all. This VCR DOES come with a manual, when you buy it new. I would guess that some others buy it used or from other sellers, and well, at that point, it's really their own responsibility to make sure it includes a manual. Also, when I spoke with Sharp, and if you have proof of valid purchase of the machine, they will send a new manual.

All in all, this is a truly excellent VCR, especially for the price. I have had more expensive VCRs that just have not been as dependable, they broke down much sooner, something happens with the clarity of the picture, or a problem starts to develop with the rewind or fast forward. I have had no problems with this VCR or its previous version. I would highly recommend this for anyone who is looking to save a little money, but wants a good, dependable machine.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good no-nonsense, dependable quality machine.
We've now had this Sharp VCR for about 4 months now. The Sharp VC-H965U 4-head VCR is a good no-nonsense, dependable quality machine. I would NEVER have thought when I had to replace my Panasonic VCR (after just two years) that it would be so difficult to find a good quality VCR. Apparently it is getting harder and harder to find well-engineered ones, even those made by the more well-known manufacturers. I had always been told about Panasonic's quality in regards to its VCRs, and how "JVC had invented the VCR tape", and therefore I reasoned that my first Panasonic which died prematurely must have just been a lemon, or something of a fluke. So I (unfortunately) bought yet another Panasonic. After buying it, we had to return it within a week since it mistracked every tape I put into it almost immediately out of the box. Same with a "super-high quality" JVC "S-VCR"; I didn't even have it for 24 hours before I saw permanent tracking lines on everything I taped & watched. (Those tapes were forever damaged by that VCR and my second Panasonic.) After trying a VCR/DVD combo which ALSO didn't work properly, I purchased this Sharp unit and a Sanyo VCR hoping that ONE of them just might work. To our surprise, both units work flawlessly, were easy to program, and played all of our older tapes without any problems. And the price was less than half the price of the JVC and Panasonic units.
This VCR is not by any means perfect, but it is a very, very good and a safe bet. As someone here wrote, it does sound a little louder during the rewind function than some VCRs, but it is not unreasonable to live with. There is a slight problem in programming cable stations where the picture went out after the process, if you happen to have a live signal on channel 3, but the manual does address this. And the very polite customer service staff walked me through the problem after this first happened when I used the Auto-set feature. (This contrasts dramatically with JVCs "Customer service number" which was just a voicemail box, with no option to even leave a message) And the Hi-Fi recorded sound on this VCR is very clean. When viewed on my digital set, and the recorded picture is also clear, though an improvement it could use is that the Sharp is just a tad darker in the shadow areas than my two Sanyo VCRs. However, all around it is a solid performer, and exceptionally easy & reliable to program your favorite shows. I would buy another in a minute. Yet another winner from Sharp, whom I've come to respect more over the years...

4-0 out of 5 stars Good points, bad points
Good points: great picture and great sound. That is what you buy a VCR for. Bad points: the motor is very loud (to me, but my wife insisted it was acceptable so I did not return it). A minor (to me) inconvenience is the remote--it does not work with my brand of T.V., and two universal remotes would not work the program function of the VCR; so when we program this one we use the original remote and use a universal remote for all other functions. But you don't buy a VCR for its remote. ... Read more
