5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Camera is the One You Carry Around
With a 2-year-old toddler and a new infant, and Grandma and Grandpa 1500 miles away, I needed a camera that could take reasonable movies and photos, could interface easily with my computer (for easy email to family) -- and most importantly, was FAST and EASY to use. My kids aren't super-cute for more than a few minutes at a time, and those moments are fleeting.

Not the best still camera (although quite good in sunlight) -- but the camera fits in my pocket, and I'm taking movies as fast as I can get the lens cap off. With this camera, I have movies and still photos I would never have captured otherwise!

I also purchased a Sony MiniDV and a "Panasonic SVAV100 D-Snap", but returned them. The Panasonic was Macintosh-hostile, the Sony was difficult to use with either Windows or Mac (but had the best picture quality). Fisher picture quality disappointed until I viewed the movies on the computer - WOW! Very nice.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Little Camera
This is a great little camera. I wish this had come out 2 or three years ago, when I bought the first miniDV camera that came out.

I am currently in Kuwait. I brought my miniDV Video Camera with me to record my time here, but the dust contamination is so bad here, it is destroying my camera. I started looking for a video camera with no moving parts. Thank God for this Fisher. No moving parts, USB connection, 3.2 Mpixels resolution. Best thing, no rewind. It took forever to get to the front of the tape to see what the video looked like.

There are just a few bad points to this model. The cover to the memory card slot is fragile, so a lot of care needs to be taken to keep from breaking it off when opening the compartment. The view finder/screen is a bit small, so it is hard to see unless you hold the camera closer to your face.

Granted, a miniDV can record more info, but you just can't beat this little guy for versatility.

5-0 out of 5 stars very nice
i picked up both the fisher and the new sony T1. trying both then taking the one i dont like back. overall after using both for a week, im in love with the Fisher. it has great features, great video quality.. and so easy to make vcd's. the sony didnt like direct sunlight and the white balance was crap. the fisher didnt mind the sun one bit, and even though the sony has higher mega pixels.. the fisher is richer in color.

buy it at sears and return it if you dont like it. for me, it will be recording my whole summer vacation :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice little package!
I love this little thing! It's so easy to use and it's got everything I need. I can carry it anywhere and use it as my camera and camcorder. The picture is so sharp and clear, the colors so bright that when I'm watching what I've recorded, it looks like I'm right there. I can't say enough good things about the Cameracorder. Before I bought it, I looked at the other brands too, but this Fisher one is by far the best. All the others don't fit as well in my hand as this one does and it's fun to use. The only thing that took me time to adjust to is the automatic focus. It took a little experimentation to get used to it. But now everything is great! Take it from me, this product is so awsome! I got more than my money's worth.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sony no more !
I usually buy Sony or Panasonic. Never again! I have had this camera for about 2 weeks now and I love it. Fisher, a name from the past has done it again. This is easy to use, compact and with 512 mb of memory you can't go wrong with the price. A must have for anyone with a family. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

When fashion is as important as performance, the Fisher Slim-1500 compact stereo proudly steps to center stage. Catering to real-world fashion ideals, the Slim-1500 is true to its name, offering a CD player, a digital AM/FM tuner, and detachable two-way speakers--all with a profile less than four inches thick.

The unit's pedestal is perfect for placement on top of a desk or cabinet, though other setups work as well. Using the included mounting bracket, you can hang the Slim-1500 like a picture, or you can dispense with the pedestal, unhook the speakers, and enjoy a more discreet appearance and wider stereo separation on a bookshelf or cabinet. (Click on the "See more pictures" link at the top of this page to view the stereo with detached speakers.) If you want the wide stereo effect without the wider speaker array, you can use the Slim-1500's surround button, which generates a more spacious and reverberant sound to simulate a wider stereo spread.

The Slim-1500 is certainly no heavyweight in the sound-quality department; physics take a fast toll on sound quality when you start reducing the available speaker space. If the looks of the Slim-1500 appeal to you, though, the tradeoff is probably a favorable one--the sound is by all means decent, if a little flat, and the bass and treble controls provide some latitude for tailoring the sound to your preference. The unit can play fairly loudly, but bass-heavy material such as rock music will audibly distort at lower levels than you might expect.

Fisher implements a number of thoughtful design features in this system. For starters, the Slim-1500 doubles as an alarm clock (with either radio or CD) and offers a feature called SureWake. SureWake lets you set a low listening level to fall asleep to at night (with automatic shutoff after 10 to 90 minutes) and also works with the alarm by gradually increasing the volume to room-filling levels at wake-up time.

Especially cool is the inclusion of a pair of front-panel RCA-type jacks that, at the touch of a button, you can switch to serve as either inputs or outputs. This flexibility permits you to record from the Slim-1500's CD or radio to a cassette or minidisc recorder; you can also simply listen to your cassettes through the Slim-1500 when it is hooked up to an external deck (though we can't help wishing that the Slim-1500 included a cassette deck). The unit even includes a subwoofer output in case you want to jack up the low end with an external powered sub for more visceral musical involvement.

The Slim-1500 also includes more typical features, such as 20-track programming for the CD player and 30-station presets for the tuner. On the downside, while the blue LCD screen shows CD track numbers and timing, actual time, and radio stations, it doesn't show volume level or bass and treble settings--even when you're adjusting those features. And since the tone controls are plus/minus buttons rather than knobs, you have to adjust tone controls by ear.

While most of the Slim-1500's operations are intuitive, its method of loading CDs is not. You must set discs in the opened tray; when you close the tray's door, the discs pop into place. (Don't attempt to mount a disc directly on the black spindle.) The Slim-1500's remote is easy to use and well laid out, though take heed: its AA batteries are not included. --Michael Mikesell

2-0 out of 5 stars all elegance but does not deliver what it's expected
i was intrigued by the design and in the store that i bought it it sounded really nice, but when i got home and took it out, i was dissapointed in the sound quality, it sounds good with low volume but when u turn it up it gets distorted, the speakers cannot take much. At first there's a noticeable squeaking when a cd is playing but thankfully it went away. If looks is what you are looking for then this is the one to get, but performance wise i don't think so.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great small system!
This little Fisher is a really nice piece of equipment if you are looking for a reasonably priced, extremely good looking stereo for a small area. I have had this for several weeks now. I bought it for my living room (which is VERY small) because my Bose was simply too powerful for the small space, and my jazz cds sounded really distorted. On my Fisher, they sound really great. What I like best about this stereo is that I control the bass and treble, so I can adjust them to the type of music I am listening too (yes, they should be adjusted according to the type of music, jazz, rock or classical). The surround sound feature is really nice. If you are looking for a stereo that will blast a 12 square mile area, this is not the unit for you. If you are looking for a really nice, inexpensive system where YOU control the way your music sounds, this is the system for you. My only complaints are that there is no readout to indicate the bass and treble settings, and there is no cassette player.

3-0 out of 5 stars Get what you pay for
A good stereo, but you get what you pay for. Cheap stereos won't give you high-end sound. The CD's load at an awkward angle, and also take a long time to load. Overall, it's not that bad, but not the best system to buy if you're looking for quality.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not really more than a clock radio/CD
This seems like a nice idea: being able to have a CD player and AM/FM tuner is a thin package. Can can be mounted on the wall or put on an included stand. I've seen high-end versions of this concept and they seemed pretty cool.

I received my SLIM-1500 free, using credit card points. That said, I was a little surprised when I opened the box. It's plastic and not very nice plastic at that. From a distance, I have to admit, it looks cool. Up close, it doesn't look as good, but it's not too bad. Touch it, however, and you'll feel something pretty cheap.

Given the thin speakers and the low speaker wattage output, you're not going to get great (or very loud) sound, although it's acceptable for casual listening. I'm not an audiophile and my room setup is sub-optimal anyway, so the sound is fine (although I would have liked some additional volume).

I hooked up my CD changer and the speakers made terrible popping noises. I have the reduce the sound output from my CD changed to the minimum to get rid of this problem.

The radio works as expected and the single CD player does what it needs to do. The vertical layout of the CD player is sometimes hard to use (I have my SLIM-1500 on a bookshelf), but looks neat when the CD is spinning.

The surround sound mode does nothing. I can detect no difference. Ditto for the dynamic bass. Which brings me to the bass/treble buttons. They do nothing! Since the volume/bass/treble levels don't show on the display, I have no idea what they are doing (if anything). And, except for volume, using the other controls gives no sound difference at all. Maybe you need a subwoofer (for the bass, at least)?

In the end, this is basically just a clock radio, although an interesting looking one. It pales in comparison to the low-end (it's one of those $200 "home theater in a box" things) Dolby Surround (5 speaker) receiver that it's replacing. In the end, it does the job for what I paid ($0), but you can do much better for a few dollars more.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrendously poor product
Don't waste your money on this so-called stereo system. The sound is horrendous, even for background music. It only looks nice. It sounds like a tin box. The sound on my laptop computer is far superior to this sound system. The only thing I use this product for is listening to AM radio such as news, and the clock feature. It takes too long for the stereo to read a CD when it is put in. Changing CD's requires you to touch the readable surface of the disc. This one's heading for the bargain table at my next garage sale. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Plays Everything!!
Great player, very nice remote. I bought this unit because it will play picture cd's that I made, vcd's and ofcourse DVD's. Never had a problem, if it broke I would try to find another......The S1100 is a bargain!

2-0 out of 5 stars Sounds like Fisher hasn't fixed the problems with the S1000
I bought the Fisher S1000, but what it sounds like from the other reviews, they didn't fix any of the problems. First of all, the DVD player doesn't play some DVD's like Charlie's Angel. I had to do some web surfing and found out that if you buy a DVD that can play in more than one country's (Don't ask me why different countries have different codes)DVD player than it won't play on the Fisher DVD player because it only plays Region 1 (USA) DVD's. One would think it would be a good thing to have a DVD you can bring to France and it plays just as well there as in say Germany, buy the Fisher DVD player won't play it.

Another thing is I use it for playing my CD's. However, it won't play any of the CD's I burned on my Laptop. It's very disappointing spending all that time burning a CD when you can't even listen to it on a quality sound system in your home.

The reason I gave it two stars and not one is that it does play most other DVD's. I've only ran into the whole region code problem thing twice and that was when I bought the DVD's (of course I had to bring them back or give them to my mother who's DVD player plays them). And it does also play store bought CD's with no problem.

I can't comment on the picture or sound quality because I have a pretty old TV. So aside from the two problems I mentioned (which are very frustrating for me) it works well. Perhaps, if you don't want to play burned CD's and they don't make many more multi-region discs, it would be a good DVD player.

1-0 out of 5 stars I do NOT recommend this, Buy the DWM-370 model instead.
As I stated, I cannot and will not recommend this DVD player. It really REALLY blows. Horrible. Refuses to play either of The Mummy/The Mummy Returns DVD's or the Matrix DVD as well. I brought it back after 1 day. I then purchased the Sanyo DWM-370 and it does EVERYTHING that I wanted from a DVD player. Unlike most of the other DVD players out there that offer so-called MP3 player capability, the DWM-370 is the only one I've seen so far that will actually list the Directories/Sub-directories/FULL song names! If you can find the Sanyo # DWM-370, get it before you waste your money on an Apex/Sony/etc that just don't compare. The DWM-370 has Component/S-Video, numerous sound options, video options, zoom, extremely high clarity, etc. I highly recommend the Sanyo # DWM-370

3-0 out of 5 stars Very good to Excellent Product
By and large a very satisfactory product. The lack of bells and whistles aside, the S1500 has served this consumer well for the past three months. Initial problems arising from vague or misleading instructions (the manual spends several page, - including a free-floating insert - on connecting components while failing to mention that some TV models require that the consumer push the input button in order to switch over to DVD; a one sentence instruction, if that!) were quickly solved through deduction and sober-minded common sense.

I have thus far not experienced the sorts of problems other reviewers have complained of. Perhaps the advent of wear will bear these problems out yet for the moment the performance has been exemplary.

For the price, the Fisher DVD-S1500 represents excellent value for money for one who is in the market for a starter DVD player.

2-0 out of 5 stars the Fisher S1100 likes to stutter
Had the worse stuttering playback on some dual layer DVDs and likes to stutter when playing PIONEER Anime DVDs for some reason. I thought I got a faulty player returned it for another Fisher S1100 & I encountered the same problems with the replacement unit. ... Read more
