3-0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive but slow.
OK I have a Sony DSC-F717 and have 2 memory stick pros with the same 256mb. One is Sandisk and the other is Lexar. One way to tell the speed is during the format of these memory sticks. When I format the Sandisk, it takes about 4 seconds while the Lexar takes under 2 seconds to format. I haven't checked the latest prices for Lexar, but it probably cost a little more then the Sandisk. When taking actual pictures, the main difference is when you review pictures you just took a shot of...the Lexar will display them faster then the Sandisk which in turn will display faster then a normal memory stick. If you have the patience to wait a second or two more, then the sandisk is a great alternative due to its price. But it kind of annoys me that Sandisk generally has lower performance on its memory, even though their packaging says contrary...but on the other hand, it is inexpensive and to my experience, just as reliable as the faster memory.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not compatible to origianl Memory Stick products !!!
I bought one, plug it in my SONY DSC-P9 digital camera, and very sadly found that they are not compatible.

My SONY DSC-P9 said it is a wrong memory stick.
I will have to refund it.
Not good.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product that is still too expensive
I bought the 256 memory stick with my new Sony DSCP100. "Memory Stick" memory is more expensive than other types of IC memory because Sony always develops its own formats to force on the world. I almost purchased the Nikon camera for this reason.

This memory was the least expensive of the PRO type and that was the sole reason behind my purchase decision. My camera requires "Pro" media if you want to shoot video in the "fine" mode otherwise standard Memory Stick media would work just fine. In comparing it to the Memory Stick that came with the camera the SanDisk version seems physically more durable than the Sony. Don't think this will be an issue but it was reassuring to have something that felt so solid after dropping this kind of $$.

This memory works as advertised and has functioned without any problems. IC memory is VERY durable and in most cases shouldnt experience any problems to begin with.

Sony and SanDisk push "Magic Gate" as some sort of user benefit. "Magic Gate" has absolutly no benefit to consumers. So don't base any purchase decisions on Magic Gate compatibility.

Overall a great value. Can't go wrong here.

4-0 out of 5 stars great stick
this is a great memory card for sony products...aside from the price compared to secure digital and compact flash, this stick holds its own...although this is cheaper than the sony brand the memory stick PRO in general is still priced too high and thus prevents me from giving it 5 stars...

to those who say its not compatible w/ their sony stuff and blame sony for not warning them, those people should read their products more carefully before blaming sony...even when you buy the memory stick PRO, the package says it may not be compatible w/ some sony products...sony did the right thing by making a faster memory stick and if its anyone's fault it is all those techno newbies' fault out there who don't know what they're buying in the first place. basically, any sony product made since 2003 supports the PRO format

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Device *** NOT COMPATIBLE WITH SOME SONY DEVICES ***
I purchased this device as a gift for a Sony DSC-s85 not knowing that Sony had designed their memory stick poorly ( http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1103-977004.html ). Though the DSC-S85 claims to support all levels of memory stick it does not support anything over 128MB. I guess the designers/testers at Sony never even thought that consumers will be purchasing anything greater than 128MB.

Before purchasing check your manual, then check for complaints on the web. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Works Great
I needed a card reader for the proprietary XD memory used in my digital camera so I bought this reader. It is a great value for this price because it reads 8 different formats of memory cards. Great if you use several formats of memory cards or have friends with other cards.

It hooks up via a USB docking station and is backward compatible with the older USB standard. It also comes with a short USB connector if you do not want to carry around the docking station. It just plugs and plays in Windows XP. It creates 4 removable disks in my computer for each memory format because there is 4 slots and each slot fits 2 different memory formats. This makes it possible to move data from one format to another very easily with some obvious limitations.

Overall a Keeper

5-0 out of 5 stars Works Great First Time and Every Time
This is one of the few gadgets around that works the first time you use it. Windows XP recognized its presence almost immediately. Insert a memory card, and a file pops up on your monitor. Click on it and you're in. Another way is to go into the MY COMPUTER icon and there you will see 4 removable disk icons. The hard part there is guessing where the memory card is at. I tried renaming the four drive icons, but it won't take. Just a minor inconvenience, really. With USB 2, read and write is very fast. I like the stand, but you can detach the reader from that stand, plug in the short USB cord, and you have a pocket-sized memory card reader/writer. I use it not only for pictures, but for storing documents.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works flawlessly
I got this reader to read my Compact Flash, IBM Microdrive, Secure Digital, and XD cards. I've had it for a few months now and it has transfered all my image and video files from all my cards without any trouble at all.

The nice thing also is that it doesn't require any drivers - just plug it in and it's ready to go. Has lots of pretty LED lights too!

It adds 4 drive letters to your computer. Unfortunately they only have generic names ("Removable Disk" in WinXP). The manual tells you which slot each drive letter refers to, though. It also came with some bundled software (Adobe Photoshop Album) but I haven't tried it.

The docking base has a cable that is approximately 42 inches long. It also comes with a USB cable that's like 3 inches so you can hook up the reader to a laptop without using the docking base.

It's definitely a very handy reader. The fact that it can read 8 types of cards seemed like overkill to me at first, but when I got a new camera that required Secure Digital cards, I was relieved that I didn't have to purchase an extra card reader.

5-0 out of 5 stars True Plug-and-Play
I have had ZERO problems out of this reader over nearly a year. Truly a plug-n-play device, it requires no drivers and no special software. Just plug it in and BAM! 4 new flash drives show up in a matter of seconds. Don't be fooled by other card readers that claim to read 100&1 cards -- there really only 5 standard card types out there. Many cheaper readers share one or more of the slots, so that only one or two cards are usable at any one time. This reader allows you to read/write all 4 card types at one time (of course, speed drops dramatically). I can't say I've seen true USB2.0 speed, but that may be in the cards rather than the reader. It IS many times faster than my old USB1.1 reader. Even the stand is useful. My only complaints are that the stand could be a little heavier (more stable) and they could have made the plug on the unit a standard "A"-type USB connector for direct plug into a front slot without the "dongle" cable -- but that's nothing I can't deal with for a device that functions so well. You won't be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great time saver
After connecting a digital camera to the PC many times, I purchased the 8 in 1 card reader. Not only does it save time, but it aloows the camera to be used for just taking pictures instead of using it as a card reader. I would recommend this to anyone using memory cards for digital photography. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Value
At first I was a bit hesitant to get Sandisk products because I've heard so many people complaining. But after doing thorough research, I found that the rest of the brands were being equally lambasted by users. So, I decided to choose based on technicals and not opinions. Well, this CompactFlash card is quite powerful and what was the bearing point for me to lean and buy this is its price. I've used it to record digital video clips, I've taken pictures of all sizes and with different visual effects, I've done high-speed shutter (~2.2 shots/sec @ 1024x768) and it works phenomenally and flawlessly. I have not had ANY of the errors people write so much about and I'm actually sure enough that I'm willing to recommend it to others.
The 256MB its sufficient for about 200 3.1-Megapixel high-quality pictures. Which can hold a weekend's vacation worth of pictures without having to erase or transfer them to your computer. However, if you can afford the extra $50, I suggest buying the 512Mb one. In short: good value, excellent performance, good price and good quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super fast memory card
Using a Nikon Coolpix 2100 (only 2 megapixels) this card is really very fast. It writes almost instantly, it seems, compared to the Lexar card that came with the camera. Even uncompressed 2 megapixel shots write in less than a second, so you can shoot a lot, and for smaller images (like 2 megapixels) the capacity is over 500 compressed, or over 250 uncompressed.... it's great.
Lifetime warrantee on the card makes me comfortable it's not going to crap out (I just got it yesterday, so I can't comment on it's longevity, but there's that lifetime warrantee, so...), and it's really affordable from Amazon.com.
I recommned this memory card with no reservations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Its great!
This is a great card, works perfectly in the canon powershot s500 digital elph. I can take 99 top notch photos. If you bought the card, just be sure to register at www.sandisk.com/registration within 30 days or you will get no warranty.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good with my A75
Great, fast ! You need a 2.0 or PCIMA card reader for faster transfers to computer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Only faster in SOME cameras, slower in others
I was hoping to increase the write speed on my Minolta 7i which makes me wait for a full write before I can take the next photo. In this camera, the Ultra II is actually slower than a "regular" SanDisk 256MB card. Ran a couple of quick tests, using the Ultra II, a "regular speed" SanDisk CF and a 1G IBM CF Micro Drive:
--------------------------------------------
In the 7i, taking a macro photo of a catalog page with lots of colors, small images and text (5 MP):

UltraII - 13 seconds RAW : 15 seconds TIF : 4.5 seconds full size JPG.

Regular - 11 seconds RAW: 14 seconds TIF : 3.8 seconds JPG

1G IBM MD - 12 Seconds RAW : 18 seconds TIF : 4.0 seconds JPG
_______________________________
Performance in my Nikon D-100 was better when taking the same (6.1MP) landscape photo:

Ultra II - 5.1 seconds RAW : 25 seconds TIF : 3.2 seconds full size JPG

Regular - 5.4 seconds RAW : 26 seconds TIF : 3.7 seconds JPG

1G IBM MD - 11 seconds RAW : 29.3 seconds TIF : 4.2 seconds JPG
*******************************************

When I purchased this card, Amazon was having a GREAT sale on it, I paid a dollar more than what a "standard" speed card would cost, so I am not irritated. If I had paid the normal retail price though, I'd be upset with its less than stellar performance in the intended application.

So, make sure that your camera can take advantage of the increased write speed of this card before you spend the extra money on it over a "standard" speed card. I'll be using it as backup on the Nikon rather than as a primary on the Minolta. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars best mp3 for the price and storeage
i ordered this mp3 player from amazon and i got the standard shipping and it came in 5 days. this mp3 has awsome sound quality and the FM radio is crystal clear and you can set your favorite stations. scanning throught your songs is fairly easy. this thing is the perfect size for pocket and hand.
the backlight is very useful. this this is so good for the money and is easy to put music on and off. I use realplayer and it is so easy to edit your music.
the only foblem is that your playlist does'nt stay it sorts it by song but it is easy to navigate.

THIS THING IS SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Mp3 player on the market!
This is the best mp3 player on the market for these reasons:

Crystal-clear sound
Great tactile buttons
Great rotary wheel
SD card slot
Small body and Light weight
Great organization of music (Play by artist, album, song)
FM Radio w/20 presets
All the normal features (hold button, repeat, shuffle)
Runs on 1 AAA for 17 hours of playback time
Very cheap price

I chose this mp3 player over the mini ipod for this reason only: apple charges you $99 when the charge in your battery dies down and can't be charged anymore.

Who wants to pay an extra $99 every time your charge dies?

Get the Sandisk Sansa today!

3-0 out of 5 stars Depends what you want it for...
I bought this player for one reason:It's the cheapest device compatible with Audible and AudioFeast. The integration with AudioFeast isn't elegant, but it works and I'm happy I can now easily use both services without all the workarounds necessary on my other player, which I now just use for music.

The interface will never be confused with that of an iPod, but with relatively limited memory that shouldn't be too much of an issue.

It's a pleasure to now be able to listen to public radio programs like This American Life and Talk of the Nation whenever I want.I can highly recommend this player for users of Audible and AudioFeast, but if you don't subscribe to those services and just want it for music, there are better designed players available.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best new mp3 player in the market
i love it, its easy to use, the music is orgenized so i dont have to search and search for the exact file i feel like hearing,
pros: easy to use, looks good, light, good price
cons: no direct USB connection
summary: o love it

5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good piece of music equipment
This mp3 player is pretty darn good.It is light weight, easy to handle, and fairly inexpensive ($103 from Amazon).I bought the Sandisk over the Rio and RCA offerings because Sandisk, at least in my research, didn't seem to have the number of complaints about product quality and lack of customer support that the other two brands had. Also, it seems as if getting at least a 512MB flash memory player with an expansion slot is going to cost around $100.

This player represents the second Sandisk mp3 player in our household. We were impressed with the ease of use and tranfer speed of the 512MB flash memory player (with no expansion slot). The Sansa player is no different. It is literally drag and drop on to the Sansa. The number of features also put it over the top versus the RCA and Rio.

Overall, you can't beat the usefullness of this little gadget.

Pro's:

--Small size, light weight
--USB 2.0 file transfer speed (transfer 100mb worth of songs in seconds)
--Backlight display
--Plays mp3 and WMA (you can put both on the player at the same time and it doesn't even blink)
--Radio reception is fairly decent here in the hills, but still won't pick up all of the available stations in your area (none of the small mp3 players on the market get anything more than decent reception so don't use this as a selling point regardless of what you buy)
--Sound quality is decent even when playing songs at 64Kbps.If you use this compression level, get good earphones.
--Lots of features including a customizable 5-band eqaulizer with presets, WOW surround sound simulator, and other sound effects. Also, has stopwatch timer and a host of other settings you can play with.
--Battery life is excellent. Not as good as some, but still near the top of players that have good battery life.
--It comes with pouch, armband, earbuds, usb cable.

Minor Con's:
--When you purchase this player, buy headphones. The included earbuds are pointless as the sound quality is barely adequate and the included 3 sets of earbud covers can't keep the earbuds in my ears.
--The battery cover door comes off fairly easily. It looks like it's on there pretty tight but it's not.I think Sandisk did this because of the many complaints that the battery covers on their mp3 players were too difficult to remove causing many people to break the battery cover (like my fiancee did with her own player).
--Your music files need to be properly tagged. I thought my files were appropriately named but this player doesn't seem to recognize the songs.I think the ID3 tags on my music are not correct as the player will display the music title you typed in but it will also show the album, song title, and artist as unknown.
--The buttons on the front are hard to push if you are not expecting it.You just have to adapt to pushing the button deeper than you would think.
--The volume is controlled by a rotary wheel on the top right side of the player. It is very difficult to turn, especially when it is in the holder.I would have preferred two more buttons on the front or side than the wheel.
--Getting the player out of the holder is incredibly difficult.Wipe of the display of the player and the inside of the plastic holder before putting the player in the holder. The plastic film that protects the display during transport leaves either static or a light adhesive film on the display that makes it stick to the plastic holder after you put it in.It took me five minutes and many attempts to get it out before I realized what happened. Also be careful not to yank off the battery door when pulling the player out of the holder.

There you have it.None of these gripes add up to more than a minor irritation which is why I gave it five stars (I would have given it 4.5 starts if I could have). However, having experienced other mp3 players, this one has the best combination of manufacturer product reliability and product support, versatility and expandability (up to 2GB SD card), features, and sound quality. My finacee has started using my player instead of her own player.

Added on 4/25/05:
In my initial review, I forgot to mention two things. The Sansa ignores your file organization so don't bother trying to setup seperate folders for different genres of music. This is why I warned before to make sure that the music you have is named and tagged properly because it does allow you to play songs by artist, album, date added to player, and so on (let's hope SanDisk fixes this with some software upgrades). Also, there is about a 1-2 second lag when switching between songs. This can get a little annoying at times but you will get used to it. To be fair, one more upside is that I added a 1G SD card (SanDisk Ultra II) and after the initial 60 seconds to read the card and update the playlist, it doesn't miss a beat.I still really enjoy this mp3 player.

Added on 05/02/05:
My Sansa has started to drink batteries like I drink Coke. Not sure why; it could be using extra juice to read music on the SD card.I may have to purchase rechargeable batteries if this keeps up.I got 6 hours of playing time out of my last battery. My fiancee's Sandisk (a flash memory player, no expansion slot) goes about 15 hours on a AAA battery. Not sure why the huge discrepancy between our two Sandisk players but my best guess is that my batteries are being drained reading the memory card.It would be helpful if someone out there with some knowledge about this would write a review. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Cheaper alternative to Sony.
After using regular SanDisk Memory Stick Pro, I indeed noticed read/write speed improvement: about twice faster, I would say. SanDisk uses same Sony memory chips as Sony does, they just package them on their own factory, so theoretically you are getting same product with different labels. So why pay extra for "brand", if you can get same product with lifetime warranty anyway?
If you are considering this card for your digital camera, do not set your expectations too high: though you are gonna notice that Ultra-II' write speed doubled over regular cards, the real bottleneck is your camera's shutter lag and size of the camera's internal buffer (in burst mode). In auto-focus mode, the lag on my Sony DSC-717 is still over a second - I'd say about 20% improvement. If you want to shoot faster, learn to use manual focus. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great USB Flash Drive
Sandisk has produced a wonderful product with its 128mb mini cruzer. Simply plug it into your USB port and it's ready to go - with windows XP there is no software needed. My laptop recognized the device immediately and it could be accessed through XP's "My Computer" as external drive F:. It was as easy as kiss my hand to store text, music, or photo files to it,to retrieve them and to erase them when desired.

The device itself is about a dime's width and 3 dime's length. The body is a smart looking metallic polished silver and when it's plugged in, the back of it lights up green so you know that it is working properly. Comes with 3 different colored caps to protect the USB connection and a neck/wrist strap for convenient carrying.

Easy to use. Fast and efficient as a USB Flash Drive. A well priced wonderful product from Sandisk. I bought one for myself and two as Christmas gifts.

5-0 out of 5 stars SanDisk 128 MB USB 2.0 Flash Memory Drive--Tops!!
I have seen many of these plug and use type sticks....I work for the USA and Government...many collegues have many of these "sticks." Sandisk works very simply and as advertised...plug, computer recognizes the stick as a drive...you simply add documents as needed...it's small, easy to transport and works every time...I've used the stick on three different machines and it accesses via USB port every time. Microsoft XP and 2000 works fine. This is great, easy to use and no major hurdles to get this working!! Best of all it's the best price via Amazon...half the cost of PX or commercial products on the market...plus free Super Saver Shipping and no Tax. I am extremely happy with this and will recommend my staff get their own SanDisk sticks!! Thanks Amazon...that's why I check you first...every time....Q

3-0 out of 5 stars Great while it works
I used my Mini Cruzer for both work and school, and I used it on a daily basis. It was fast, small, and very convenient.

However, you might notice that I am writing in the past tense, because my cruzer just died on me the past week after after five months of use. Of course, it is still under warranty and I will be sending it back to Sandisk this week, but I lost a TON of data that I was not able to recover. I normally keep a back-up, but when the memory stick dies before you are able to back-up your data, life can get pretty bad.

Make sure to keep good back-ups!! Do NOT rely on this or any other memory stick to be fail proof.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cruzer Mini Rocks!!
I Just bought these memory flash, and i only have to said: Is off the hook!. The best of all, it have 2 spare parts tops of colors, so you don`t have to worry about lost one of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars takes major abuse!
I had left my Cruzer Mini in my pants pocket and it went through the washer and dryer. It still works! Really!! ... Read more
