Amazon.com Product Description Samsung's 40-inch high-resolution widescreen LCD television is not only a gigantic LCD screen TV, it's also the answer to all your home entertainment needs, from its PC, DVD, and DTV inputs to its built-in NTSC tuner and integrated stereo speakers with 10 watts power each. At less than three inches deep, the set is nothing if not easy to place, its slim profile lending its massive screen width to even small rooms. The LTN406W is a TFT active-matrix HDTV monitor with 1,280 x 768 resolution. TFT (Thin Film Technology) gives every pixel its own identity, so they can rapidly switch shades while maintaining some of the best brightness and contrast levels available. Image quality is enhanced by a 3D digital comb filter, an extremely high (600:1) contrast ratio, an exceptional peak brightness of 500 candles/square meter, and wide (170 x 170-degrees) viewing angles. Samsung also includes its proprietary video-enhancment technology, Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe). DNIe performs 3-D noise reduction and detail and contrast enhancement for all interlaced (non-HD) sources. Throw in 60,000-hour lamp life for years of use and PC and multi-channel picture-in-picture with split-screen capabilities, and you're looking at a sweet little--make that sweet big--set. Connections include one S-video input, one composite-video input, an RF input (for older VCRs and cable boxes), and two component-video inputs (one progressive-scan DVD-oriented 480i video input, one DTV-ready 480p/720p/1080i input), as well as a DVI input (with HDCP content protection) for a PC. A headphone jack affords private listening, and Virtual Dolby surround sound simulates surround sound from any two speakers. The set includes wall and ceiling mounting hardware. More about DNIe The first of these processes, the Motion Optimizer, is responsible for noise reduction. the visual data are automatically broken down into signal and noise and analyzed through a combined spatial/temporal process. DNIes noise reduction technology permits a startling level of sharpness even in minute details and rapidly changing scenes. Unlike conventional noise reduction methods, the Motion Optimizer combines a motion adaptive temporal filter, which detects and reduces noise in the temporal space between successive frames, with spatial noise reduction applied to the two-dimensional image space. After passing through the Motion Optimizer, the visual signal is sent to the Contrast Enhancer. This process automatically adjusts contrast and brightness to natural levels, producing an extraordinarily rich and vivid picture. In scenes of motion or rapid change,a separate contrast value should ideally be set for each visual signal, but this presents great technological difficulties. DNIes Contrast Enhancer process has overcome these difficulties by applying over 1 million criteria for contrast and automatically determining the optimum contrast level for any kind of visual data. The Contrast Enhancer can also analyze up to 70,000 local images within a frame to preserve contrast in the smallest details without affecting overall color or brightness. The next step in the signal's journey from input to high-quality output is the Detail Enhancer. DNIe's Detail Enhancer uses its own specially developed technology to dramatically improve sharpness just where it matters. The slightly unnatural appearance that results from conventional uniform detail enhancement is re-detected and re-adjusted to produce a strikingly sharp and convincing image. Conventional detail enhancement is based on the artificial amplification of the input signal, but this inevitably produces small areas of noise boost-up and flicker. The final process undergone by the input signal is the Color Optimizer. For each scene, the Color Optimizer analyzes the hues of the input signal to determine and preserve the overall level of brightness. The colors are adjusted and improved, without unnatural intensification, to give vivid tones corresponding to the living shades of nature. By calculating the color saturation of red, green, and blue in each scene, the colors are optimized to the shades that the human eye accepts as natural. What's in the Box Features Reviews (2)

Amazon.com Product Description The 22x optical zoom of the SCD67 is much more than adequate--many cameras top out at 10x--and enables the videographer to shoot footage from just about any vantage point. The lens is paired with digital image stabilization. This technology essentially reduces the amount of information used by the image sensor, effectively creating a buffer zone that removes the minimal shaking that is associated with high zoom levels. Aside from the 2.5-inch LCD, the SCD67 also includes intelligent backlight compensation, which means the camcorder will adjust if you're shooting subjects with a light source shining behind them. It's not a cure-all--it's never a good idea to shoot into the sun--but it'll help when filming stage performances and similar situations. The kit contains a lithium-ion battery, AC adapter-charger, AV cable, and instructions. Features Reviews (41)

Amazon.com Product Description Additional features include a Reprint button that lets you reprint the last page you sent to print, even if your computer is off or you're working on another job. A Cancel button stops print jobs with just one touch. Get high-quality printing on transparencies, envelopes, labels, and card stock. The unit's 600 dpi resolution provides sharp text and fine graphics. A 150-sheet paper bin lets you print long documents without interruption. The ML-1430 supports virtually any operating system--Windows 95, 98, 2000, Me, NT 4.0, and XP, and Macintosh OS 8.6 or later. It also supports a wide distribution of Linux OS, including Red Hat, Caldera, Debian, Mandrake, Slackware, SuSE, and Turbolinux. Features Reviews (50)
The Samsung ML-1430 emerged as the front-runner because of initial price, cost-per-page, and quality of output. It has delivered in every area. Setup is virtually automatic on my XP Home machine. After it warms up and does its little adjustments, it zaps out beautiful text at a cost of under 3 cents/page even at the standard setting. (There is a toner-saver option.) Cons: The paper is output to present the back of the pages. Seeing what looks like a blank sheet emerge takes some getting use to. But how bad is that for an inexpensive, efficient, good-looking printer? Recommended strongly.
So, given the cheap price, I bought the second one because switching was inconvenient. It performs just as well as the first, EXCEPT it jams. A lot. Maybe every 25 pages, on average, if I use the top output. It doesn't jam much using the front/bottom output, but then the printed sheets fall on the floor. (I don't have room enough to set the printer back). The first one almost never jams either way. The second one also makes considerably more noise than the first. I'd give the first one 5 stars, and the second 1 star, so I've split the difference. If I'd figured out the problem with the second one quick enough, I'd have exchanged it. I don't know how common problems are, but I'm suspicious of Samsung's quality control. Incidentally, I had no problem removing the stupid stickers cleanly on either printer. Maybe Samsung has used different adhesives on other batches.
Great value for the money. Sharp printouts in the 600dpi mode. I like the overall lower cost per page of a laser printer, and the fact that the 'ink' doesn't run dry unlike inkjet cartridges.
I have two computers, a mac (OSX) and a PC (XP). It is slow on the mac but quite fast on PC. I guess it has to do with the driver setting. The printer sounds some upon starting but becomes much more quite after a couple of minutes. The sound doesn't bother me, though. ... Read more | |

Amazon.com Product Description Pro Chip NTSC-to-progressive-scan conversion improves typical (interlaced) TV viewing by combining odd and even scan lines, presenting flicker-free images, much like those found on today's better computer monitors. The picture becomes crisp from edge-to-edge, due in part to a 3D Y/C comb filter and velocity-scan modulation circuitry, which also maintains corner focus. If you want to watch Hollywood films at home on DVD, 3:2 pulldown is indispensable. The difference between film and video frame speeds causes slight blurring, stuttering, and other motion artifacts, especially during fast-action sequences. 3:2 pulldown corrects these anomalies so you can experience a smooth picture much closer to that of the original film. In Samsung's DynaFlat HDTVs, the overall resolution is higher than earlier-generation sets because the individual phosphor color spots (pixels) are smaller and closer together. Its multiple-focus electron gun is capable of illuminating finer spots to achieve a much more detailed picture. A DVD presented in progressive scan and/or HDTV content can be connected through either of two sets of auto-sensing wideband component-video inputs, and three rear-panel audio/video inputs (one with S-video) and a set of side AV inputs are also available. A pair of two-way, side-firing speakers with 15 watts per channel rounds out the set. Features Reviews (7)
The customer service was less than impressive and I would recommend buying this product from Circuit City or some other company that will guarantee the product and provide reasonable customer service. If you insist on purchasing from Amazon.com, I recommend you inspect the set thoroughly before signing for delivery. This is important b/c it is your only chance to refuse the product and Amazon.com will not make you aware of this. All that said, it is a great HDTV monitor for the price point. It is a good anchor to a starter home theater setup. It displays progressive scan and HDTV signals very well. One thing to consider is that the set does not allow you to scale the aspect ratio for any of the HDTV inputs as many Sony sets do. This means that a full screen DVD will be stretched by the TV. I would recommend this set for anyone looking to enter the world of HDTV at the sub $1000 price point. However, I would strongly urge you to consider buying from a electronics only dealer such as Best Buy, Circuit City, or Tweeter as Amazon.com can not match their level of customer service in this arena.

Amazon.com Product Description Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DVD-P341 stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. The DVD-P341 also performs 3:2 pulldown. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture. Another handy feature is the player's EZ View letterbox eliminator, which lets you enjoy full-screen pictures on 4:3 aspect-ratio TVs--even when you're watching widescreen DVDs. A set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. Composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television. What's in the Box Features Reviews (2)

Amazon.com Product Description Further, the LT-P468W features Samsung's latest-generation DNIe (Digital Natural Image engine) picture-enhancement circuitry, delivering improved contrast, detail, color, and video motion optimization. While 1,080p (1,080 lines, progressively scanned) is the format the broadcast industry is moving toward with more and more programming appearing every day, the set's internal high-quality scaler can handle any video input format and display the signal in the set's native high resolution. Its impressive 800:1 contrast ratio makes it capable of rendering extremely deep blacks, and its high brightness (500 cd/m2) produces bright, vivid images even in bright rooms. And, with its industry-leading 12-millisecond pixel-response time, the LT-P468W is nothing if not ready to handle the fastest-moving video sequences, from video games to action films. Horizontal and vertical viewing angles each extend up to 170 degrees, making sure everyone has the best seat in the room. LCD screens offer a number of benefits over CRT monitors and televisions, including general ease of use, freedom from eye strain (no screen flickering or radiation emissions), quiet operation (no high-pitch "flyback" noise, an issue with CRT TVs), accurate image geometry (no curvature distortion or susceptibility to magnetic interference from, say, speakers), long screen life (with no risk of image burn-in), space savings, and light weight/easy positioning. (Perched atop its round swivel base, the set weighs in at less than 100 pounds.) LCDs also tend to be cheaper and, to some eyes, slightly more natural looking than their plasma flat-panel counterparts, which usually "spec" higher (higher brightness, higher contrast ratio). The LT-P468W accepts standard-definition 480i inputs, enhanced-definition 480p signals, and full high-definition 720p and 1080i/p. The set connects to a personal computer through its RGB (15-pin D-Sub) input, letting you surf the Web, check e-mail, or play QuickTime movies right on your television. Use the split-screen/PC PIP option to view multiple sources simultaneously. To connect the monitor to devices such as DTV set-top boxes, satellite receivers, DVD players, game consoles, or camcorders, use either of the set's digital-video inputs--DVI (Digital Visual Interface) or HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface)--for a direct digital connection, or take advantage of its dual high-definition component-video inputs.Other inputs consist of 2 each composite- and S-video inputs, 1 RF input, and the above-mentioned PC input, each with its attendant audio jacks. Other outstanding features include a sleek cabinet housing armed with impressive stereo speakers from JBL powered by 15 watts per channel (x 2); the latest SRS TruSurround XT technology (for exciting stereo and bass enhancements and a simulated surround experience); sleep and on timers; V-Chip parental control; closed captioning; and an auto volume leveler to minimize jarring level differences between, say, programs and their commercials. The DVI-HDTV interface (with HDCP copy protection) enables an all-digital rendering of video without the losses associated with an analog interface. DVI supports up to 24-bit digital RGB data for each pixel. Like DVI, HDMI is a lossless, uncompressed, digital audio/video interface to link the set with any compatible AV source. HDMI supports standard-definition (SD), enhanced definition (ED), or high-definition (HD) video, plus multichannel digital audio--all using a single cable. It transmits all ATSC HDTV standards and supports up to 8-channel digital audio, with bandwidth to spare to accommodate future enhancements and requirements.
