5-0 out of 5 stars I'm impressed
I bought tnis to replace an HP4L that had served me well for over 12 years. Since I have found that the more recent consumer level HP's are not up to the build quality of the older models, I shopped around for other brands. This Samsung was highly rated by most users. The thing certainly looks sturdy, and the build quality appears to be excellent. The print quality is superb, and everything works perfectly, including the duplexer. I followed the suggestion in the manual to use the drivers from the included cd, rather than the defaults from Win2K. I really like the fact that the main media tray takes a full ream of paper, while the secondary input takes 100 sheets. I also like the fact that I can load cardstock for booklet covers in the auxillary feeder, and instruct the printer to print the first page from there, and subsequent pages from the main tray. Pretty slick for an under $400 printer! Overall, I'm quite impressed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great deal (8 months of print-intensive doctoral studies)
I cannot explain the experiences of the reader from Austin, TX. I purchased my ML-2150 8 months ago because I was going through reams (literally) of paper for doctoral research and badly needed duplex capability. After 8 months, I just saw the first low toner signal. The first several months were in Hawaii and the remainder in Albuquerque, spanning extremes of humidity and temperature. It has not jammed once. Performance has been flawless. Speed is more than adequate for a heavy home user or small workgroup. I've had three HPs and will will not have another. Long ago, HP had an excellent support program, now you must pay quite a bit just to get a call through to say you can't get a new HP up and running. The new HPs are not as dependable or sturdy as the old III, IV and V models. Bottom line, I can't believe I got such an excellent duplexing printer from Samsung for $460.

2-0 out of 5 stars Seems awesome, BUT hold on!
It's great if you don't print much. Very quick & quiet. But the toner is twice as expense as my Brother 1250 printer. My Brother & my Samsung were printing side by side 2000 sheets. The Samsung jammed way too many times (50). The Brother 1250 jammed only a few times. The Brother toner cost less and lasted just as long. The Brother stops printing when low on toner. The samsung keeps printing faint copies and wasting paper. The duplex feature is great for a once and a while duplex operation. It's a lot of paper moving for anything over a couple of pages. My Brother 1250 & My Samsung blow away my HP Laserjet. The Laserjet is old but never made into the second cartridge before Goodwill got it. HP didn't even stand behind it. The said they would sell me the repair kit. Brother is a good printer.

5-0 out of 5 stars All around great printer
I have worked with a lot of printers over the years. Most printer companies make their money these days from consumables so most know that getting the printer into your office is the best thing they can do; thus the margins on printers are pretty low. Since laser printers are now coming into the personal printer price range (lowest end ~$180), I decided to purchase another printer for my office. I currently own a color laser printer that fits my need (Lexmark network 600x600). I looked at the new low-mid range HP's (don't like the new paper loaders and parts waiting to break on toner reload). I also taked to a tech at one of the stores and found out that the largest number of new printers being fixed were the new HP's. I thought about the Brothers laser printer (odd 2400x600 print format and every store I went, the machines seemed to have toner cleanness issues; every one had toner smudges). The Samsung seemed the best (classic style, 1200x1200 output, REAL direct duplex printing, sturdy feel, wireless and wired Ethernet expandability; 250 paper feeder, easy access envelope/single feeder). Color may be tempting, but trust me, you will save far more in toner with a plain old black and white. If you are running a business here are the reasons NOT to buy a color laser printer:

1) Toner costs
2) Every website you/your employees feel the need to print out will be printed in color eating up even more toner.
3) If you are not giving your presentations directly off of a computer; it's time to get with the 21st century and invest in a projector.
4) No matter how many times you think "With color, I'll be able to print most of my literature myself saving tones of money" you're marketing department(s) will still run to the bulk print houses.

Sure $800 is tempting for an entry level color printer, but really I rarely find a need to print color. If you are tempted to buy a color printer so that you can print pictures, look at these facts:

1) Most digital cameras these days (3-5 mega pixels) outpace most color laser printer outputs
2) It is cheaper (and better quality) to use Ofoto, Kinko's or some other place that will print out your best photos on high gloss at high resolutions.
3) For $800 you can print out 800 high quality 8x11 photos at a dollar a page.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Printer with a Price to Match
The Samsung ML-2150 laser printer gives a lot of features at a great price. Since I do a lot of document printing that only needs to be black & white I didn't need a more expensive laser color printer. Many of the features such print speed, paper capacity, and duplex (printing on both sides) would cost much more with other major brands. I am using this printer for home but could easily be seen in a small/medium office environment. Compare this printer features with other printers to see the value. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Only 1 BIG problem
The system over all is great. But there's one big problem in my opinion, that I am concerned about, the Progressive Scan feature. Given you will need to output the video with component cables in order to receive 480p/780p (pending your HDTV monitor). However, the "P-Scan" feature is ... I'm sorry to say, "pathetic." The manual states that you have to hold down the "P-Scan" button on your remote for more than 5 seconds to toggle in between either "P-Scan" or "I-Scan" (Interlaced) and that's it. I've tried this, and haven't noticed any positive improvement on picture quality. Even worse, there is no display feature on the DVD system nor the monitor to let you know if you're in P-Scan mode. I've compared the progressive scan to my older DVD player, and the older DVD player progressive scan's picture quality is much better. Hope this helps. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars How cool can it get?
I recently got a Samsung TXM3096WHF (30" 16:9 HDTV 1080i) TV form Best Buy for $$$ and man does this thing do a job. I had a digital cable box from Comcast and got ABC, NBC, HBO, Showtime, and CBS in 1080i. [Bad.] The signal must have been weak or something because it looked like widescreen 480i. At any rate, I got this little guy, hooked it up to my NON-DIGITAL amplified antenna and immediately got Fox, ABC, NBC, CBS, and the WB in perfect HD. (Fox is in 480p, which is just as as a DVD). Only ABC broadcasts in 5.1 surround sound, so that was kind of a dissapointment. Everything else is perfect. I like not having to pay $...a month for less channels that I would get for free.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for on the Air HDTV reception
Works well with my TERK TV55 antenna and my Mitsubishi HDTV-ready TV.

A basic unit that delivers what it promisses.

However, if you need or plan to get Cable or Satellite signals as well, you get another units.

Some gripes:
- Makes a high-pitch whining noise even if turned off.
- Cannot switch channels while on menu mode (would be useful when testing reception)

Also if you have more than one HDTV source (e.g. XBox), you need to get a switch if your TV does not support more than 1 HDTV input.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's worth the money
I got this items in October 2003 and I am very satisfy. If you don't want specific cable channel and want quality this is an amazing device.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dont pay the cable people or satellite service
I did for a while to get just 3 HDTV channels. One day I visit my neighbor and saw his HDTV was picking up 11 HDTV signals over the air! I was paying extra for to my provider; and only received 3 channels, what a reap off!

So I purchased an earlier model and worked excellent! A month ago I upgraded to the T151 from Samsung and Wow! I did not know how many formats each channel had, and all the options and settings on the receiver make for a perfect movie experience everytime! Highly recommend this set. The newer models have some features removed: dont know why, and cost more too, just check the descriptions.

I think the manufacturer put all options on this receiver because did not know it would sell well, and remove some in the subsequent models. The on-screen menu is simple and extended Just love it!

I am getting a TV built in HDTV tuner so will sell mine soon.

1-0 out of 5 stars Broke three weeks outside of warranty.
Worked great for one year. A week after one year it started puting diagonal colored lines across the entire screen causing complete loss of broadcast picture. By one year and three weeks, this problem would happen without fail after having the unit on for ten minutes. Would DEFINITELY not recommend purchasing one of these units. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Enjoy glare-free images and flicker-free progressive-scan movies with the Samsung 27-inch flat-screen TV, which features a three-line digital comb filter and an antidistortion DynaFlat picture tube. Unlike many CRT televisions, the TXP2745P is compatible with 480p progressive-scan DVD players, doubling the scan resolution of traditional devices to eliminate blurring and occasional flickering. Progressive scan also provides sharper edges and detail than 480i images, and combines with such features as 3:2 pulldown processing to give original film sources a better picture when converted to video. Other video enhancements include three-stage video correction, velocity scan modulation (which further refines resolution), vertical compression for widescreen anamorphic DVDs, and Total Digital Signal Processing (DSP) for converting analog signals to digital.

Viewers will appreciate the variety of convenient user features, such as widescreen and zoom viewing modes, V-chip parental control, a sleep timer, a multilingual onscreen menu, and front panel controls that let you operate the TV if the remote is hiding. Audio flows through the 15-watt side speaker system (7.5 watts x 2) with MTS stereo decoding. The TV also lets the viewer select one of several preset sound modes--standard, movie, music, speech, or custom--that best fits with the chosen programming.

Progressive-scan DVD players connect to the TV through one of the two sets of component inputs (the other is ideal for a satellite connection). The device also offers three rear composite inputs for such components as VCRs, camcorders, or video game consoles, along with a side AV input for quick connection. The connectors are rounded out by an S-video input and a set of AV outputs.

Amazon.com Product Description

With stylish looks honed to match its pristine images, Samsung's 27-inch TXN2798HF DynaFlat high-definition-ready TV offers full 1080i or 480p input capability (HDTV/EDTV) for use with a DTV set-top box or a progressive-scan DVD player. The set's standard, 4:3-aspect ratio DynaFlat HD screen uses an anti-distortion/anti-glare picture tube to maintain high contrast and image integrity. (Flat screens also just look cool.) The onboard Pro Chip Plus NTSC-to-480-progressive-scan system converts all incoming analog sources--like VCR, cable, or non-progressive DVD--to a 480p display, eliminating conventional TV scan lines for a "flicker free" picture.

The Benefits of HDTV
Standard TVs (SDTVs) display a maximum of 480 lines using the interlaced scan method, which creates a picture with alternating lines of information.
Enhanced-definition TVs (EDTVs) display a maximum of 480 lines using the progressive-scan method, which creates an image using consecutive lines of information for a crisp, flicker-free picture.
High-definition TVs (HDTVs) display a maximum of either 1,080 interlaced lines or 720 progressively scanned lines for the sharpest possible image.
An especially attractive feature of this feature-loaded set is its "neo slim-width" design, which conserves space while delivering high-quality video and audio. A separate enclosure houses a 25-watt powered subwoofer in the back of the set, eliminating the need for bulky side speakers. The mid- and high-frequency speakers (10 watts each) reside in the front panel, optimally positioned beneath the screen.

Total DSP (Digital Signal Processing) converts standard analog broadcast TV signals to digital and compensates for varying signal strengths, while the set's 8-bit, 20 MHz 3D Y/C comb filter removes blurred edges between colors and reduces dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt). Velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.

The TXN2798HF also offers 3:2 pulldown. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture. Samsung's DNIe Video Enhancer (or Digital Natural Image engine) enhances all analog NTSC and wideband video inputs for an overall improvement in picture quality. DNIe improves contrast, white level, and picture detail, incorporating digital noise reduction to improve low-quality video sources.

A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. An Invar mask uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing in a brighter, clearer picture. All onscreen information and menus appear in translucent overlays, letting you view video programs in the background while you consult the setup menus.

The set's two-tuner picture-in-picture with stock-ticker modes lets you monitor up to 13 different channels simultaneously. Stock-ticker mode places the lower one fifth of the screen of one channel into another channel so you can viewing streaming text beneath the program of your choice.

Other features include BBE High-Definition Sound (improves speech intelligibility and restores the dynamic range of compressed musical passages), V-Chip parental controls, and plug-and-play setup, which uses automation and a simple menu to select the source (broadcast or cable), set the clock, and map the active channels.

Inputs consist of a DVI-HDTV input for direct digital connection with a DTV receiver, dual high-definition DVD/DTV component-video inputs, an RF input (for an older VCR or cable box), three rear and one set of side-panel audio/video inputs (including one S-video input) to accommodate a camcorder, game console, or other sources. The set comes with a universal remote control.

More about DNIe
Digital Natural Image engine(DNIe) that could take a signal from any kind of source-not just conventional or high-definition digital broadcasting, but even DVD, Camcorder, PC and games-and turn it into a stunning picture on any kind of screen. The input signal passes through a series of four advanced processes that form the core of the DNIe technology.

The first of these processes, the Motion Optimizer, is responsible for noise reduction. the visual data are automatically broken down into signal and noise and analyzed through a combined spatial/temporal process. DNIe‘s noise reduction technology permits a startling level of sharpness even in minute details and rapidly changing scenes. Unlike conventional noise reduction methods, the Motion Optimizer combines a motion adaptive temporal filter, which detects and reduces noise in the temporal space between successive frames, with spatial noise reduction applied to the two-dimensional image space.

After passing through the Motion Optimizer, the visual signal is sent to the Contrast Enhancer. This process automatically adjusts contrast and brightness to natural levels, producing an extraordinarily rich and vivid picture. In scenes of motion or rapid change,a separate contrast value should ideally be set for each visual signal, but this presents great technological difficulties. DNIe’s Contrast Enhancer process has overcome these difficulties by applying over 1 million criteria for contrast and automatically determining the optimum contrast level for any kind of visual data. The Contrast Enhancer can also analyze up to 70,000 local images within a frame to preserve contrast in the smallest details without affecting overall color or brightness.

The next step in the signal's journey from input to high-quality output is the Detail Enhancer. DNIe's Detail Enhancer uses its own specially developed technology to dramatically improve sharpness just where it matters. The slightly unnatural appearance that results from conventional uniform detail enhancement is re-detected and re-adjusted to produce a strikingly sharp and convincing image. Conventional detail enhancement is based on the artificial amplification of the input signal, but this inevitably produces small areas of noise boost-up and flicker.

The final process undergone by the input signal is the Color Optimizer. For each scene, the Color Optimizer analyzes the hues of the input signal to determine and preserve the overall level of brightness. The colors are adjusted and improved, without unnatural intensification, to give vivid tones corresponding to the living shades of nature. By calculating the color saturation of red, green, and blue in each scene, the colors are optimized to the shades that the human eye accepts as natural.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best value for HDTV
I am very satisfied with this buy. The overall value seemed to best. Samsung has been rapidly improving their products especially in this area to make them affordable and high-quality. The TXN2798HF is loaded with all the available features in the Tantus category. CRTs last much longer than plasma screens and currently have one of the best and most accurate color reproduction. The TV was much heavier than I thought, however, so care should be taken with moving and placing the TV. There are plenty of connections though the single S-video input on the side may cause problems to some.

I believe the TV automatically converts 480i video signals to 480p. I found, surprisingly, that image quality was better with progressive scanning on my Panasonic DVD player turned OFF rather than ON. The TV does an excellent job of processing video signals.

I ordered from Amazon despite many reviewers bad experiences with ordering TVs. It is true that you cannot return TVs over 27-inches ONCE you've opened it but you can and should refuse to recieve the TV from the shipper if the box or other evidence shows that it is damaged (this is actually what Amazon recommends doing). The shipping cost did not really bother me as I would have paid nearly the same amount of money for taxes if not ordered online.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good entry level HDTV ready television.
I purchased this television primarily to enjoy my DVDs and Xbox in progressive scan mode. It has good features at an affordable price point. I'm not yet ready to invest in a high cost plasma or LCD unit as I believe those technologies will come down significantly in price within the next few years. A CRT based system was the reasonable choice for me.

It is a 4x3 CRT television, but the 16x9 widescreen squeeze works quite well and about equivalent to a 24" widescreen.

The picture is extremely clear at 480p and has the clarity of a computer monitor at 1080i. It does not have the ability to produce 720p, which is the only negative I have for this model. However, all OTA signals I've received and other digital sources, 1080i has always been supported.

I went ahead and bought a Samsung STB (T351) to enjoy "off the air" DTV signals as well. It does require a Set Top Box or some other digital source since it does not have a built in tuner. You can't expect a set in this price range to include this, nor is it really necessary if you are just wanted progressive scan ability.

If you're looking to purchase a CRT based television these days, there is no reason not to purchase an HDTV ready-set. This will extend it's usefulness as we approach the 2006 HDTV roll-out here in the U.S.

I've been very happy with this television and have a new found respect for Samsung. Only wish I had purchased it sooner. The DVDs are so vibrant and much improved in quality. The Xbox is wonderful in 480p.

Also, just to clarify an issue from another reviewer, this does indeed have a DVI-D input on it. It's in the PDF manual and its definitely on the set itself. Be sure to read the PDF link to learn more.

1-0 out of 5 stars no DVI listed wrong
neither this model nor any 27" samsung has a DVI port! A transcoder from DVI to componet jack is about $150.00.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Value!!!
I USED TO ONLY LOOK AT SONY AS BEING THE BEST QUALITY, but I started to see that Samsung also was coming around with great products, usually at a CHEAPER PRICE,but nevertheless I found with this TV, my cell phone, and my HD-DVD Player that Samsung IS RELIABLE AND OFFERS GREAT VALUE. Don't be taken in by those people who are so stubbornly Sony customers, I think that as long as something works great and also looks great (Samsung designs are great) that the name on the product shouldn't matter much. You won't be dissappointed with this TV if you take into consideration what type of programs you will be watching(DNie makes regular cable still look great)....just be aware that this is not widescreen even though it is HD ready(....720p and 1080i, HD formats are both widescreen), which would be the only drawback I can find. Look for more great Samsung products in the future, and remember that SONY'S NOT THE ONLY GOOD BRAND OUT THERE :)

4-0 out of 5 stars A high quality TV
I purchased this for my lounge. My wife did not want a TV to dominate the room so I went for this model rather than something bigger or widescreen. I have not been disappointed. The picture quality is very good and is spectacular when viewing a DVD with a progressive scan player. Color is sharp and bright, darks are excellent too.
The only holdback is the sound reproduction through the TV speakers. It needs to be hooked up to a home cinema setup really. The standard speakers are quite basic and bass notes in particular suffer at higher volume levels. That said, a great buy at the price and a good looking box. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Where's the light?!?
Ok, i said to myself no light on the camera....so I'll just go out and buy one. This is my 1st camcorder purchase ever so of course i didnt realize that in order to attach a light to this puppy it needs an accessory shoe. Light is this little cam's best friend , because in low light situations...u might as well be filming behind a screen door.....because that is what the grainy imprint over all of my indoor footage looks like....well go out and buy 1 for yourself........enjoy!!!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Picture, description are misleading and wrong!!!
Description and picture misrepresent SC-D303 (I think it's for model SC-D305/307 which isn't sold yet).
SC-D303DOES NOT have accessory shoe NOR video light.
"Standard light" is not a part of package.
There's no remote either.
It's a good camera, but not what's being described here in editorial or on most sites including Samsung which shows wrong picture too!!!
My purchase is going back!

4-0 out of 5 stars Pros and Cons of the Samsung sc-d303
I was looking for a decent review of this camera but could not find one anywhere online. As soon as it was available for sale, I ordered and crossed my fingers. It arrived today and I've been testing it out to the max so here it is for those who want a timely review.

Keep in mind that I'm the type of person who only looks at poor reviews to see why I shouldn't buy a camera...because a lot of things can be either great or acceptable but all it takes is one flaw to make a purchase a remorseful one.

Cons:

-No Memory Stick included! I assumed one was included but in the instructions booklet it says "Optional accessories". I had to run out and buy one for $40.

-No remote Control! Again the booklet says included...bbut only for the 305/307.

-Mpeg4 only allows for 20 second clips.

-The record button is very poorly placed. It is a thin standing rectangle too close to the battery so you need a tiny finger to reach it. It is very hard to press.

-No Tally light. Not even one you can turn off.

-20x Zoom is slow. It takes a while to go from one end to the other.

Pros:

-Battery life is really good. I've been recording, rewinding through several tapes, playing all night and the battery indicator is still at 95% .

-Power Nite Pix is way cool. I feel like I'm in the Army in Paris.

-Most intuitive menu I've ever used.

Here is the MPEG4 review:

There are 2 modes, 320x240 and 160x120. You have a 20 second limit per clip and the final size is 1800 Kb in either mode. I was hoping a smaller file size with the smaller resolution but no...they just give you more frames per second. The larger resolution has only about 10 frames per second and so it is choppy. It's good for emailing back home.

I used their Samsung streaming software to record old footage from mini-dv to mpeg4 on my computer. The setup was simple and here it is always 320x240 and you can record clips as long as you want (hard disk space limited)

Overall I strongly recommend this camera. It is very small...full of features...and way cheap. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great monitor, so-so video
As a computer monitor, the 170MP is very easy on the eyes, with good (and adjustable) color rendition, contrast, and brightness. The viewing angle is about as wide as it gets-almost on par with Apple's overpriced 17 inch; not only does the brightness not fade, but there is little color shift. There really isn't much to say, as it performs as well as I would want it too.

As a video monitor, it is lacking. I have fed it with satellite and DVD signals, using both the S video and RCA inputs (no real difference in viewable quality). At default settings, the picture was grainy and had the same sort of problems I associate with over sharpening on digital images. The major tweaking I did was to turn down the sharpening, using the nicely designed menu system. This made the picture soft, but to me far more acceptable.

Please note, I have not tried the built in tuner, as I don't have a good antennae to hook it up to. I just tried satellite and DVD feeds. I use a Samsung HDTV 30 inch "TV" (which has an incredibly good picture-try this beffore you spend the extra money on Sony, Philips, Panasonic, et al...) so I am comparing it to a VERY good benchmark. However, I think that it should have the circuitry inside it to produce a video image that is as good as my last TV did. Compared to the HDTV (which is upconverting the feed), the 170MP was lacking in brightness, contrast, resolution, and blackness. This seems odd because it really does look great (wide contrast range, good blacks, etc.) as a computer monitor.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great alternative to big CRTs
I did a lot of research on flat panel monitors when I finally decided to get back a hug piece of desk space. I had been using a 19" Mitsubishi CRT and was happy with it. The 170MP gives me nearly the same viewing area and great quaility.

I almost bought the Envision 17" TV/Monitir combo. But when I saw this one, it had better contrast ratio which has a big impact on the TV quality. I had not been planning on a TV feature, but the cost of this monitor is in the same ballpark as many monitor only 17" flat panels and the specs are better in some areas, plus you get a TV.

The TV features are good and the 2 size PIP options make using the TV while surfing or emailing easy.

Some of the reviews of this monitor mention the difficult angle for plugging cables into the back. I agree. It is a pain, but how many times do you have to plug something in.

Overall, totally happy with this monitor.

5-0 out of 5 stars It just perfect
I am working with it already 2 years and absolutly satisfied.
