Amazon.com Product Description

The ultimate convenience recorder, Samsung's DVD-VR300 offers not only dual-format playback--DVD and VHS videocassette--but dual-format recording, as well. The DVD-VR300 makes it easier than ever to time-shift your TV viewing, save treasured broadcasts, archive your library of home videos, or share your creations with friends and family. Further, the combo recorder offers unprecedented format flexibility, handling DVD-RAM, DVD-R, and rewriteable DVD-RW optical media.

Samsung has developed its own multiformat technology that grants the DVD-VR300 the flexibility to support all three major DVD recording formats, each bringing its own advantages and capabilities. You have the option of recording straight from the television in either format (disc or tape), as well as being able to record from VHS to DVD and vice versa with the convenience of one easy-to-use machine. (Copy protection may prohibit recording of most commercial DVDs.)

DVD-RAM is the most technically versatile recording format available to DVDs and can even adapt to the DVD-RW standard for playback on older DVD players. It allows mixed storage of video, audio, and other types of data from both the PC and the audio/video worlds. DVD-RAM's nonlinear read/write characteristics allow convenient features like time-shifting and time-warping, which means you can start watching a program from the beginning while the end is still being recorded. Rewritable DVD-RW and write-once DVD-R compatibility lend the DVD-VR300 the broadest available DVD Forum-backed compatibility at the time of its issue.

Front-panel audio-video inputs offer easy access for connecting external devices and the unit also offers analog and digital DV (FireWire) inputs accessible from the front panel.

The unit also supports audio playback for an array of popular formats, including CD, CD-R/RW, and MP3 CD. Additionally, the player has the ability to play JPEG CDs and Kodak Picture CDs for onscreen viewing of digital photos. Full-motion video, still images, backward compatibility with VHS cassettes, all your favorite music--the DVD-VR300 is quite a device. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Samsung's 20-inch TX-P2034 is a full-featured direct-view CRT TV with a DynaFlat antidistortion, antiglare dark-tint picture tube that yields high picture contrast and minimal reflection. The TX-P2034 has a 4:3 aspect ratio, good for viewing analog broadcast TV and pan-and-scan-formatted video at a resolution of 480i (interlaced). Four video presets optimize the picture for the type of program being watched with user-adjustable brightness, contrast, sharpness, color, and tint. Plus, screen-filling picture modes let you fit the image to your screen.

A digital comb filter virtually eliminates dot crawl or cross-color interference, producing a superior picture. The Invar shadow mask removes picture discoloration (doming) caused by heat and allows the tube to operate at a higher voltage, yielding brighter whites, higher contrast, and purer colors.Color temperature controls allow you to adjust white balance. The "Warm" setting reduces the color temperature and delivers a redder image that is ideal for display in a dimly lit room. "Normal" and "Cool" provide a progressively bluer image for the best picture as room light levels are increased. Get sharper defined edges and outlines with velocity scan modulation that controls the speed of transitions between the black and white portions of the signal.

Auto Kine Aging Bias automatically regulates the white balance to maintain consistent, optimal performance even after many years of use. A White Peak Limiter and Dynamic Black Level Expander further improve picture contrast. To get an even cleaner picture, the TX-P2034 has a digital video noise reduction system to remove digital artifacts from images.

The TX-P2034's speaker design uses side-mounted, front-firing speakers to deliver the most stereo sound reproduction available from a television's internal speaker system. Aside from the 2.5-watt-per-channel stereo speaker system, the set has MTS for receiving stereo sound and SAP for receiving a second audio track in another language. Listen to your programming in privacy using the stereo headphone jack. Auto volume leveling eliminates drastic volume spikes while changing channels or when channels go to a commercial break. And the improved Turbo Sound loudness control boosts high and low audio frequencies, while Sound Enhancement Modes create more realistic audio environments for movies, music, and speech. A simulated surround sound mode is also available.

A set of side composite inputs present a cleaner-looking front cabinet and make hooking up a game console or camcorder a snap. Two rear composite inputs, an S-Video input, and a DVD component input make connecting your audio/visual equipment easy. Component video inputs split the video signal into its base components--Y (the black and white part of the picture), Pr (red minus Y), and Pb (blue minus Y). The signal remains pure and unaffected by the TV's comb filter or NTSC decoder. The result is higher resolution and improved color purity. A fixed A/V output is on the rear of the set as well.

Many convenience features have been incorporated into the TX-P2034's design. A full-function remote control gives you access to the tri-lingual (English, Spanish, French) on-screen display, sleep timer, noise muting, and channel return as well as basics like channel changing, volume, and picture and audio adjustments. There is also a V-chip control system to easily limit the types of programs your children are watching and a Remote Surf feature that returns the TV to the original channel so other channels can be browsed during commercial breaks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Monitor and TV
Its looks great, works great, easy set up, and easy to use. I purchased this model after looking at many LCD Tv's. 19" is a perfect size for watching tv and monitor use. It saves on so much space being able to combine two electronics into one. The PIP feature is awesome. I tend to use that more while working on the computer. Contrast, response time, color and everything else are all right on target. I had a Sony flat screen monitor prior to this which I loved. To save on space, I purchased this and glad I did. The monitor looks exactually like my old one. Slim and stylish, while maximizing desktop space and giving bright and colorful images. You would never think there is a tv inside of this. Built in speakers are a huge plus and also save on desk space. Setup was a breeze. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to save on desk space, whether in a bedroom, den, kitchen or anywhere else you use these two electronics. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

With crisp 1,280 x 1,024 resolution and an ultra-thin profile, the Samsung LTP1745 17-inch LCD monitor broadcasts strikingly clear images while taking up a minimum of space in your living room, bedroom, or kitchen. The monitor's wide 170-degree viewing angle makes sure that no seat is a bad seat, especially when the unit is mounted on a wall. In addition, the monitor connects to a personal computer through its RGB input, letting users surf the web, check e-mail, or play QuickTime movies on the screen. The built-in NTSC stereo tuner receives the standard 181-channel fare, while the digital comb filter separates the color signals to minimize dot crawl and blurred edges, giving users sharp, focused images that look great regardless of the source.

As with many high-quality TVs, the LTP1745 makes flexibility a top priority, which is why users can easily alter the video settings to enjoy a custom picture that meets their needs. Variable picture settings include custom, standard, movie, and dynamic. The TV also provides color temperature adjustment for warm, cool, or neutral tones, along with a trilingual onscreen menu. Additional user features include a sleep timer, V-chip parental control, closed captioning, and an auto volume leveler.

The flexibility extends to the audio options, as users can choose one of several preset sound modes (standard, music, movie, speech, and custom) for broadcast through the built-in 5-watt speaker system (2.5 watts x 2). The monitor's MTS multichannel decoding separates audio signals for stereo reception, and also broadcasts a second audio program (SAP) when available. To connect the monitor to devices such as DVD players, game consoles, and camcorders, use the component video, S-video, RF, and composite inputs. PCs connect to the monitor through the DVI and RGB inputs.

Amazon.com Product Description

Samsung's 26-inch, 1,280 x 768-resolution LT-P266W LCD television produces strikingly clear images while occupying minimum space in your office, living room, bedroom, or kitchen. Its widescreen aspect ratio and wide, 170-degree viewing angles make sure no seat is a bad seat, especially when the unit is mounted on a wall via its VESA-compliant mounting holes. In addition, the set connects to a personal computer through its RGB (15-pin D-Sub) input, letting you surf the Web, check e-mail, or play QuickTime movies right on your television. Use the split-screen/PC PIP option to view multiple sources simultaneously.

Perfect for use with a DTV set-top box or high-definition satellite receiver, or progressive-scan DVD player, the set accepts standard-definition 480i inputs, enhanced-definition 480p signals, and full high-definition 720p and 1080i as well. The set's built-in NTSC stereo tuner is configured to receive the standard 181 channels. And with its high 600:1 contrast ratio, impressive 500 cd/m2 brightness rating, lightning-quick 16 ms response time, and onboard digital comb filter (which separates the color signals to minimize dot crawl and blurred edges), the set renders sharp, focused images that look great regardless of their source.

LCD screens offer a number of benefits over CRT monitors and televisions, including general ease of use, freedom from eye strain (no screen flickering or radiation emissions), quiet operation (no high-pitch "flyback" noise, an issue with CRT TVs), accurate image geometry (no curvature distortion or susceptibility to magnetic interference from, say, speakers), long screen life (with no risk of image burn-in), space savings, and light weight/easy positioning. They also tend to be cheaper and, to some eyes, slightly more natural looking than their plasma flat-panel counterparts, which usually "spec" higher (higher brightness, higher contrast ratio).

Samsung's DNIe (Digital Natural Image engine) dramatically improves pictures by enhancing the contrast, detail, and white balance while reducing image noise.

As with many high-quality TVs, the LT-P266W makes flexibility a top priority, giving you several preset picture and sound modes, including custom settings for each. The TV also provides color temperature adjustment for warm, cool, or neutral tones, along with a trilingual onscreen menu. Additional features include sleep and on timers, V-Chip parental control, closed captioning, and an auto volume leveler to minimize jarring level differences between, say, programs and their commercials.

Choose one of several preset sound modes (standard, music, movie, speech, and custom) for broadcast through the built-in 3-watts-per-channel x 2 speaker system. SRS WOW technology simulates surround sound from the set's 2 speakers, while the television's MTS multichannel decoding separates audio signals for stereo reception and broadcasts a second audio program (SAP) when available for multilingual or other applications.

To connect the monitor to devices such as DTV set-top boxes, satellite receivers, DVD players, game consoles, or camcorders, use the set's DVI (Digital Visual Interface) for a direct digital connection, or take advantage of its dual high-definition component-video inputs. Other inputs consist of 1 each S-video input, composite-video input, RF input, and the above-mentioned PC input, each with its attendant audio jacks.

The DVI-HDTV interface (with HDCP copy protection) enables an all-digital rendering of video without the losses associated with an analog interface. DVI supports up to 24-bit digital RGB data for each pixel for the highest image quality. This DVI-HDTV interface is compatible with HDMI digital feeds by means of an adapter cable (not included).

Amazon.com Product Description

Offering an incredible feature set and exceptional quality for its price, Samsung's fourth-generation 42-inch SP-P4231 gas-plasma TV uses the company's proprietary electronic chassis and the latest DNIe enhancement circuitry to deliver outstanding brightness, contrast, and image clarity. Use it for home theater and use it for your PC--it's perfect for both. It comes with a pedestal stand, detachable speakers, and a built-in NTSC tuner for split-screen and PIP viewing (small, large, double). The tuner allows you to connect an analog RF signal cable or antenna directly to the set and watch standard-definition TV right out of the box.

With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the SP-P4231 is a mere 3.4 inches deep without its stand, perfect for desk or wall mounting (using Samsung's WMN4240 for wall mounting). Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems.

The set boasts an incredible contrast ratio of 3,000:1 and a brightness rating of 1,000 cd/m2. With every scene, the picture is clear and vivid, capturing and revealing every detail, even in bright light. The set's picture-frame design is finished in luxurious aluminum and acrylic with contrasting tones of sliver and black. The use of these colors and materials help eliminate glare and facilitate comfortable viewing, freeing your eyes to focus only on the picture.

The set's panel construction is calibrated for better performance and greater durability than earlier plasma models--even surpassing the longevity of prior-generation CRT sets, offering a 50,000-hour panel life (viewing time under normal conditions, after which picture deterioration may occur).

Samsung's exclusive Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe) combines a Motion Optimizer, Contrast Enhancer, Detail Enhancer, and Color Optimizer to deliver a vivid, lifelike picture. With the Motion Optimizer, fast-moving images are rendered with more natural-looking motion, without blurring or noise. DNIe's Detail Enhancer analyzes video elements to produce sharper detail, clear image separation, and natural edge transition. The Color Optimizer gives colors lifelike realism while making whites more accurate and skin tones more natural. The Contrast Enhancer gives you deeper, richer blacks with greater detail and more natural whites.

In addition to rear-panel component (Y, Pb, Pr) inputs for an HD set-top box or DVD player (including progressive-scan models), the set also offers an RGB PC input, RF, composite-, and S-video inputs, and a DVI-D (Digital Visual Interface) jack for the best possible resolution in a direct-digital connection to a DTV receiver compatible with HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection). A composite-video-based AV output simplifies hookup with a digital video recorder or VCR.

The set features clip-type speaker outputs and 15 watts per channel power for driving either the supplied stereo speakers (which attach at the screen sides) or other speakers of your choosing. Helping out in the surround-effects department, SRS TruSurround XT wraps and delivers the following features: TruSurround 6CH Surround Effect, TruBass Virtual Woofer Effect, Dialog Clarity Virtual Center Effect, and WOW Stereo Enhancement--all of which you can appreciate through any 2 speakers, including those that come with the set.

3-0 out of 5 stars A couple of days ago, I'd have said that too!
My Samsung 4231 is about 6 weeks old.3 days ago, I would have rated it 5 stars, easy!Today, maybe one star.Let me explain... It was everything the other reviewer said and more until a couple of days ago. This is my second HDTV, and the picture clarity and brightness blows away my HD Toshiba projection wide screen by a mile.Non-HD programming is really amazing on this set.It is almost as good as HD broadcasts on other equipment; and of course HD programming is mind-blowing.I don't think there could be a better picture at any price.HOWEVER, the past couple of days, this Plasma beauty has started acting up on me.It simply goes black (no picture) for about 15 minutes, and then comes back on. The sound is uninterupted. It goes black on all inputs. It might do it 3 or 4 times a over a 3 hour (or so) period.I have no idea why this happens, or what happens to make the picture come back.I haven't caught it going dark if I leave it on over 3 hours, but it only started a couple of days ago.If anyone knows what might be going on, I'd love to hear about it.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE YAZS REVIEW OF SP-P4231 SAMSUNG PLAZMA TV
From shipping date to delivery date Amazon.com rated very good in my book. Cant say enough about tv for the price. picture quality is great. I used the S video hookup from my satelite dish box to receive the signal, nite and day differance between picture quality. black is black not a grayish black, tv came with speakers and table top stand, which is about a $700.00 savings, that most plazmas dont include when you buy them. buyer beware of this when buying these tv's. many other accessories came with tv as well, sound from speakers is plenty good for me, i spent a few months looking at all other brands at stores and to get one with a better picture quality it would cost over $3000.00 more and was'nt worth the extra bucks in my book, rather have the extra monies for a surround sound system to go with this tv if i needed it. on screen setup fetures are so simple its great. thank you Amazon.com thinking of getting another for my house, this ones in my garage.great addtion to my party room, everyone who has seen it so far cant say enough good about it.as i said, use a s video cable to receive your tv signal if possible, hookup with cable wire is still good picture quality, cant beat the s video hookup thou for tv reception quality.NASCAR RACES AND SPORTS CANT BE VIEWED ANY BETTER. And i dont have HD hookup yet, dont think i will waste the monies for that either, picture clarity is unreal. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Samsung's high-definition-ready HL-P5685W offers a broad, 56-inch screenin a 16:9 aspect ratio and a unique pedestal mount whose lightweightdesign and slim stature lets it fit where other stands won't. But itoffers more than just quantity of screen: it's also engineeredfor quality.

The secret to this DLP (Digital Light Processing) projection set'squality is its Emmy-winning technology from Texas Instruments. Samsunghas combined its proprietary Cinema Smooth Gen 4 HD light engine andadvanced optic enhancements with a single, .8-inch Digital MicromirrorDevice (DMD) capable of generating high-definition video images withfilm-like resolution, deep blacks, and robust colors. Samsung's CinemaSmooth light engine enhances brightness while ensuring an astonishing2,500:1 contrast ratio.

Texas Instruments' DMD panel is immune to the factors that can causeother displays to deteriorate with use, imparting a longer lifeexpectancy than that of cathode ray tube (CRT) sets, plasma displaypanels, and liquid crystal display systems (LCD, LCoS, HTPS). A host ofadvanced digital interfaces and video inputs make non-issues ofconnectivity challenges and future proofing.

The HL-P5685W's automatic digital-format conversion system converts anyinput (whether DTV, analog TV, or XGA computer sources at 1080i, 720p,480p, or 480i) to a progressive, 16:9 widescreen image with a 1,280 x720 pixel count. A 3D Y/C digital comb filter dramatically reducesimage-edge artifacts while improving transition detail, and the set's HDultra-fine-pitch (.155 mm) screen further clarifies images, especiallywhen you're viewing high-resolution sources like DVD and HDTV.

Samsung's Cinema Smooth Film Mode 3:2 Pull Down correction circuitryaddresses digital distortion in 480i (interlaced) video signalsgenerated from 24 frames-per-second film. Finally, Samsung DNIe videoenhancer (Digital Natural Image engine) works with all analog NTSC andwideband video signals for improvements in contrast, white level, andpicture detail, incorporating digital noise reduction to improvelower-quality sources.

The set offers digital-video inputs in 2 formats. A DVI-HDTV interfacewith HDCP copy protection permits all-digital rendering of video withoutthe losses associated with an analog interface, and an HDMI(High-Definition Multimedia Interface) jack channels both digital audioand video to simplify connections with newer DTV set-top boxes and DVDplayers by reducing hookups to just a single cable and plug.

Other inputs include dual HDTV component-video inputs (480i, 480p, 720p,and 1080i) for high-definition satellite receivers, HDTV tuners, and HDcable boxes with component video outputs (Y, Pb, Pr); 3 each composite-and S-video inputs; and 2 RF coaxial inputs for antennas or older VCRsor cable boxes. An audio/video output permits hookup with an externaldevice such as a surround-sound receiver.

A 15-watts-per-channel (x2) audio system with a pair of 2-way speakerscomes with built-in SRS TruSurround XT, which simulates compellingsurround sound through any stereo playback system, including headphonesand the TV's speakers.

Last but far from least, onboard 2-tuner PIP with side-by-sidesplit-screen viewing grants convenient simultaneous viewing of 2 TVprograms, while a supplied universal remote control permits control ofthe TV, a DVD player, a VCR, and a tuner/surround receiver.

4-0 out of 5 stars Too many factors to blame the unit.
I can agree AND disagree with everyone else's opinion of this unit. I have the unit connected to my 57" Hitachi Ultrvision via DVI-D interface, and to my Panasonic receiver via TOSLINK optical. When I first got the unit I connected it THRU the receiver via Component (RGB) cable. I experienced video dropout during sudden bright scenes, and occasional audio drop out in Dolby 5.1 as others have. I should note I am 55mile north of Tampa Bay and get about 7 or 8 channels (plus sub-channels) with a roof top antenna (Channelmaster from about 1990). The video droppout was clipping due to the Receiver's shortcomings, once I by passed it the video was excellent all the time. I also have not had an audio issue in some time now. Granted, being a TiVo family we rarely get to watch alot of "live" TV, but it has been great. Bottom line is this: reception is key. The signal is digital and thus will be slow to decode, uncompress and prone to packet loss (equating to picture pixelization and loss of Dolby soundtrack) Remember the UHF days? Ghosts, snow, etc.? Same thing, only digital. I previously bought a Zenith unit and it only got 1 channel. The sensitivity of the Samsung is by far superior to anything else in my experience. If you want terrestrial TV in HD for FREE, you'll need to invest in a well tuned aerial. Also I have a standard vhf/uhf 35db booster inline, 30ft from the aerial and 60ft from the tuner and it does not interfere with the signal in a negative way. I give it 4 stars because a this point in time we are too close to next-gen receivers to expect this unit to live up to the expectations of each individual user.

2-0 out of 5 stars Cheapest for a Reason
I've had good experience with Samsung in the past, but don't go for this unit unless you already have a near-perfect analog signal. I'm 2 miles from the broadcast stations in Chicago, but in an apartment. I would get 8 out of 10 bars in signal strength, but the unit would have to keep honing in on the signal so the signal strength bars would 'flicker' and as a result audio and pixilated picture would constantly come in and out despite all amplification attempts. I now get shadows with my analog set up, so my guess is that the reflecting in my indoor signal is causing both the analog shadowing as well as the transient at best HD picture and sound through this unit. I believe it's an issue with the processor not being able to re-adjust quickly enough and filter down the signal it needs just right. I also must reiterate the issue that you can not view the menu in 1080i through the DVI and this unit does NOT come with a DVI cable so expect to shell out another $100 for one. If you have a roof antenna, then then this may be the unit for you, but I'll try out the 4th generation Samsung TS360 and hopefully it will be able to lock onto my bouncing but strong signal - plus it comes with a DVI cable. I still applaud Samsung for leading the way in driving down the price of these suckers & releasing the better technology with better consumer end-user specs before everybody else.

1-0 out of 5 stars Samsung quality control is BAD
Purchased 1 unit, went though 9 of them before returning it for good. All of them would power up, menu worked, but could not recieve any signal with a $50 antenna. Samsung asked to send the unit in for repair...but why would I do that since it doesnt work new out of the box. I did not have any luck with this unit. My LG electronics one works great with full signal strength.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW, saved some big bucks on a HDTV monitor!
I wanted HDTV and not intererested in the $800 to $5000 monitor to view it. So I reviewed the Samsung SIR-T351 and found it on sale for $319. I noticed that it worked with a RGB Computer monitor. I have a Sony Multiscan 200SX, top of the line from 8 years ago sitting around from an old computer. I paid $200 buck or so for it. I decided to give it a try. WOW, HDTV with .25 pixels, and the cost of the monitor is, in today's prices, $100 bucks or so. I attached a $10 Computer stereo speaker system and I have sound. The picture is fantastic on my Computer monitor. I put it by my easy chair, with the Analog TV Sony attached to my Motorola 922 satellite reciever, watch local programs on my Computer monitor. There is no need to spend big bucks for the HDTV montitor. Just buy the receiver, attach an old computer monitor, like my Sony and you can enjoy HDTV without the big bucks of the HDTV monitor. I plan to buy a Monitor, when they come down in price, but in the meantime, I can enjoy HDTV on my 17 inch computer monitor by Sony with stereo.
By the way, with the monitor four feet from my easy chair, it has as big a screen as my 36 inch at 15 feet. I am using a pair of rabbit ears from a 26 year old TV to receive HDTV off the air. Good signal.
I recommend this unit.
Don't spend the big bucks for a new HDTV monitor, the Sony Multiscan 200SX for $100 bucks will give you a great picture or some monitor like it. I cannot believe the detail of HDTV especially on the tonite show and PBS nature programs. You don't need the giant screen to enjoy HDTV.

1-0 out of 5 stars Digital audio outputs defective
Even with a signal strength of 9 (out of 10) on most channels, all I got was a bunch of garbled junk when the unit was set to dolby digital. I tried both the optical and coaxial outputs and had the same results. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars excellent sound and only a few quirks
This player is the first MP3 player that I actually like.It has a customizable equalizer to get the sound to sound just the way you want it.Very very few MP3 players let you do that and it is something I believe should be in all MP3 players. The player is small but has a bright color display. The player doesn't require any additonal software in Windows XP.You simply drag files between your computer and the player in "My Computer": it is that easy.

There are a few quirks. The little stick that you use to move around the interface is a little too loose. You can move it up and the player will think you mived it left or right.Similarly, manuvering around the interface with the little stick takes a few tries before you figure out how to find the options you want. But these are minor complaints for such a feature-rich and small mp3 player.

Battery life is OK at max 10 hours.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best flash based mp3 players out there.
I already own a hard drive based mp3 player (an iRiver H320 - which I love), but I was interested in getting a small flash player so that I could also have something more compact and light weight. This is a great little player, and it can do almost everything that my larger player can.

The player is incredibly tiny and light weight. It's nice looking (resembles a miniature iPod), sleek, and it has a very user friendly design. It's just as small and compact as the iPod Shuffle, and fits easily into any pocket. However, despite it's tiny size - it has a large color screen in which to navigate your files. The file navigation system itself is very easy to figure out without having to refer to the manual. Apparently, the firmware is also upgradeable via the Samsung website.

For a simple flash based mp3 player, it is loaded with features. You can play mp3, wma, secure wma, asf, and ogg. It has a radio tuner, voice recorder, and the ability to record in mp3 format from a line in source. It also has a photo and text viewer, clock, screensaver, and built in playlist editor so that you can arrange your songs on the fly.

The headphones are decent, although I have never been a big fan of ear bud styles in general. These are among the more comfortable ear buds I've tried, however. The sound quality is great and easily matches my larger mp3 player. In fact, I plugged in my pair of higher quality studio headphones to test out the sound quality and I was impressed. For a flash player this thing can really crank out the volume level! In addition, the player has several different equalizer settings (including SRS WOW), as well as different playback modes (fade, shuffle, repeat, etc).

It has a rechargeable built-in lithium-polymer battery, and comes with some nice accessories -- including the power adapter, a USB cable, mini USB, neck strap, belt clip, and audio software for managing your files. Unlike with the iPod, however, you don't HAVE to use the Samsung software if you don't want to. You can easily drag and drop files the way you would with a regular USB jump drive. The player supports high speed USB 2.0, and you can simply charge up your player, plug it in, drag and drop some files, and then you're ready to go!

So far the battery life has been good, but it varies depending upon your usage. This means that if you play mp3s with a higher bitrate, at a higher volume, the less battery time you will get. How often you use the color display also factors into the battery life. If you leave the color display on continuously, or view a lot of images, you will also get less time out the battery.

As for any defects or bugs, as the last reviewer mentioned, I have not had any problems with my player so far. I purchased it this month and it has a manufacturer date of April 2005. It has not given me any trouble at all and I am very happy with it!

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware!Early release batch defective!
I purchased this unit in late February and within a week it malfunctioned. The unit turned on with the "locked" displayed eventhough the "Hold" switch was in the OFF position.I couldn't do anything with it other than turning the unit ON and OFF.When I called Samsung tech support, it took them less than thirty seconds to diagnose the problem; they already knew about the defect. My conversation with them gave me the impression there were many returns from the early releases of this unit. The unit I purchased was manufactured in January 2005.(For those considering purchasing this unit, note that there's no way to find out the manufacturing date until after you open the package. The date stamp is on the back of the unit.)I sent my defective player in for repair and received a refurbished one back.I was dissappointed at paying so much for a new unit only to end up with a refurbished one.The other reviewers were lucky to get a working player; I was not so lucky.

5-0 out of 5 stars Samsung hit the nail right on the head
This mp3 player is perfect for my everyday transit to school of about 1 hour everyday. The bass response and high frequencies are noted very well on the included ear buds. The lanyard and hip clip are well constructed too.

My brother has dealt with his apple, and I do feel sorry for him. He had a 512MB iPod shuffle. It worked fine for a long while until he tried to remove one song and iTunes ended up removing all of the songs. The software is much simpler on the Samsung, because if you are running Windows XP no additional software is needed. All you do is drag from anywhere in your computer and drop into your removable drive folder where the Samsung USB is attatched.

I have dropped it onto cement on several occasions and have found no damage to the case or the storage capabilities. I have also placed text and images and they are easily viewed on the high resolution screen.

And at a price of only $150 its a mini-mini-iPod with built in practicality, or you can think of it as a mass storage USB device with a headphone jack, either way you still get a great working device.

5-0 out of 5 stars Solid
The YP-T7X is a solid mp3 player. The FM radio works well.It is a good device to use while running.I also have a Creative Zen and the two devices are complimentary (one for storing all of my music and one for use while running). ... Read more
