5-0 out of 5 stars This is a SWEET monitor
I have owned this monitor for about 16 months now and still love it. It is big & bright and takes up very little room on my desk. Everyone who uses my computer comments on my "Great Monitor".
This monitor is probably the best 17" analog monitor you can buy anywhere. It's image quality will knock your socks off.

PROS:

* It is PC and Mac compatible and includes a 13W-3 input for connecting to Sun and SGI workstations.
* Very bright and clean resolution up to 1280 x 1024 (took the top spot in C-net Labs LCD performance testing).
* Optional 4-port USB hub connects cleanly to back of stand for extra convenience.
* Menu and controls are very easy and intuitive to use.
* Generous 80-degree viewing angle from all four directions .
* 3-year warranty, including coverage on the backlight.
* Long RGB cable (5ft) for extra slack when routing to PC.

CONS:

* It is analog not digital.
* Will not do 1600 x 1200 (I know I'm greedy).
* Only looks good at 1280 x 1024 resolution (lower resolution takes a significant quality dip) - this is not a big deal, but does require you to do at least two things:
1. Buy a good vide card that will run smoothly at that kind of resolution (32mb or better).
2. Bump the operating system display scheme from normal to large or extra large (if you want to read text without eventual eye strain).

Overall, this is a fabulous monitor if you:

- Need the space savings
- Use lot's of USB devices
- Have a solid video card and don't mind running 1280 x 1024
- Want a gloriously bright and clear flicker free monitor
- Want peace of mind with a factory 3-year warranty

5-0 out of 5 stars We bought a dozen of them
We did the research and found this was the best flat screen monitor for the price. We bought a dozen of them for our employees (I use a pair in a dual-head configuration at home and at the office). We haven't had any problems and the image quality and color have been excellent. I couldn't live without mine and the price made it reasonable to purchase. Wonderful as far as I'm concerned.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fine for general purpose
This monitor is a good value for the money. It is not as sharp as most CRT (tube-type) monitors, and the display is not quite as sharp as most high-quality laptop screens. Text viewed on screen tends to be more or less readable, depending on where the text is due to inconsistent pixel quality.

However, it provides great brightness, and compares extremely well to all but the most expensive screens in its class. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic monitor
First, you can see just how attractive the monitor is to look at. The thinly framed screen screams high-end monitor, and this display fortunately also delivers high performance. This monitor works with both analog and DVI, it and comes complete with both cables. I use DVI and the screen looks fantastic at the native 1280x1024 resolution. Photos are lifelike, and text is crisp. The screen has a very wide viewing angle, but there is some color loss as your angle away from the monitor gets worse and worse. You can adjust brightness levels with a quick touch of the "Magic Bright" button on the front of the monitor. I almost always leave mine on "text" mode which softens the brightness of black-on-white text.

Another very high selling point to this monitor is that the AC cord is built in. Most flatscreen monitors have an external power adapter in the form of a huge black box that sits on the floor. This monitor has the power source built into the back of the monitor, so hookup is very easy and space saving.

All in all, I couldn't ask more from a monitor. I went back to the very nice, ultra-crisp 17" CRT monitor I used for 5 years and I was amazed I had been using it for so long. The screen that once was one of the clearest on the market was dull, fuzzy, and I felt eye-strain almost immediately. So, if you're reading this on a CRT screen, do yourselves a favor and upgrade to this monitor. Flat panel technology + DVI Cable + Samsung = A fantastic value you'll love for years to come.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Monitor
I had been checking out the reviews on LCD monitors. I was going to purchase a Samsung 172t, but it was replaced with the 173t which looked to have even better features. This is my first LCD monitor. The quality is stunning. Photos look great, and more important, text is super crisp and sharp. Even DVD movies look excellent on this monitor. Its a double thumbs up. Not all LCD monitors are alike. Samsung makes some of the best ones out there. You can't go wrong with this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST MONITOR IN THE WORLD
I just got one today.
This Samsung 173T is the best monitor I have seen so far.
Its 17" LCD, with horizontal and vertical lanscape. So when you are doing word processing, it is easier to do with vertical than landscape.
It has Analog and DVI input. Both cables are included. My graphic card supports both, but I use analog. Because when I try to use DVI, my screen blinks every 5 seconds, but when I use analog, it does not blink.
Anyway, I had 19" CRT monitor before, and 17" LCD is almost equivalent to 19" CRT.
There is no dead pixel on my monitor.
My rating is 4.5, but I see no 4.5, so I give 5 out of 5 to this monitor. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Still going strong
I've been using this monitor for about 10 months now (my computer is my home within home, so I use it a lot). I'm completely spoiled with this monitor's greatness - awesome 1280x1024 resolution with vibrant colors, more screen - less frame, and great reliability. Even though others may complain that the dead-pixels warranty is poor, I've yet to see any dead-pixels at all on mine.

The landscape/portrait option is great to have for maybe photo editing (for portrait photos), internet browsing, and word/spreadsheets processing. My ATI software for my video card supports this feature. Also, the DVI/VGA switch (A and B) allows maybe two computers to share this monitor (if one uses DVI and the other uses VGA).

If memory serves me right, my research for a 19-inch monitor before buying this led me to find out that this monitor uses almost half the power of the average competitor, including Dell. If it is any factor to anyone, it may save you money as a long-term investment in terms of product lifetime and power saving.

Just a little info for people searching for their next monitor:
*A 19-inch LCD is not the same as a 19-inch CRT in terms of viewable screen (19-inch CRT will typically be 18-inch viewable).
*Samsung is gradually becoming one of the better electronics company...they got my vote as being the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars New Samsung Fan!
I walked into the computer store with no idea what brand I would purchase for my new LCD computer monitor. I choose this model with some very close competition. The sales guy told me that Samsung was a good brand and they are one of the few company's that actualy make the LCD pixels. I forked out the money (after all this was a big purchase for me) and I took home the box. After I opened and installed it I was in love. My roommate even said that he could not beleive how beautiful my new monitor was. The DVI input was perfect for the new high end video card that I purchased. I had no problems and this is probably one of the best and most rewarding purchases that I have made. I have bought many other Samsung "things" and have come to agree that it is a truly under rated brand. (I only hope their reputation will not increase their product costs). In a world where you get what you pay for, I finally got more than what I paid for!! If you do purchase another type of LCD, make sure you looks at the tech specs closly, as I discovered along my path, the high cost LCD's do not all have the high end specs.

5-0 out of 5 stars beautiful
it gives me a beautiful and colorful view , but a little bit expensive

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent colors, contrast and design.
Elegant Bright and vivid. 19 inch diagonal. size with half inch frame gives a very large display with a minimum of desk space. When rotated (with included software) you are able to get a whole web page on the screen. You can adjust height of the screen upward or downward on the stand.Has a dual hookups so you can use the monitor from analog and digital video connections simultaniously. Wonderful. Well worth the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Impressive!
I bought this monitor to use exclusively as a flat panel TV in our bedroom. I was concerned that it wouldn't be bright enough at 250 nits (many "pure" flat panel TVs are 350 nits or higher). But I've been happily suprised that it is plenty bright and the picture (analog cable) is really, really great.

The only small complaint is that very fast action (like a football player running at full speed) will cause a bit of ghosting or blurring on the screen. It is not terrible but is noticeable.

Overall I'm very happy with this monitor. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great value, great design!
I heard that Samsung was stepping up their line of LCD monitors. What I love about this product:

1. Dual Interface: Analog/DVI
2. Hinge design - this thing can fold down flat and the profile is awesome
3. Looks great! I have the silver one and generally has small footprint on my desk.
4. Automatic adjustment, under analog - under DVI everything is pretty much automatic
5. Solid design!

No complaints and no problems. Next time I may target the 19".

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Monitor, a little [more money]
Got this monitor about 4 months ago and it has worked quite well. Its a bit [more money] but comes with a few more features than most. It has the DVI connection as well as the standard. One of the advantages of this is that you can connect two computers to monitor and just switch between sources with the button on the front. The clearity of the images are terrific, i am not exactly a video-phile but i have not noticed any negitive attributes. I have never watched a full length movie but movie clips like previews for instance play quite well and there is not any noticable lag in color change. Its probably not worth the price if you dont have the dvi connection for you computer, but it certainly increases the quality. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent !
this is a very nice monitor, huge size and great resolution
Really nice monitor

3-0 out of 5 stars Good image & features, bad design, inflexible pixel policy
I bought my 191T+ to relieve eye strain. The quality of the picture and the effect on my eyes is a huge improvement over the 17" CRT I had been using before. It does not seem any brighter than my Apple Studio display at home (although it is supposed to be), but it certainly does the job on that point.

My main complaint is that there is a dead subpixel on mine right in the middle of the screen. While I knew that Samsung had an 8-pixel policy, I had hoped that they would make an exception for a pixel positioned so inconveniently. No dice. So I am stuck looking at a red spot right in the middle of my document. It's distracting.

My other complaint is that the monitor only swings one way, and in my office that is away from CPU and power outlet. The result is that I need to have a lot of slack in the cords on my desk if I want to swing to portrait mode, which is both ugly and annoying.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great monitor
This is an a good monitor. The image quality is very good. I have 2 in a multi-monitor configuration with a Sony SDM-S91/B in the middle. The 191tplus makes the image on the Sony monitor look dirty! The white on the Sony monitor actually looks brown when compared to the white on the 191tplus.

I've had the Sony for about six months and I just got the Samsungs to increase my screen real estate. After comparing the image of these monitors I have decided to sell off the Sony and get another 191tplus.

After doing a lot of research, I decided on this monitor because its loaded with features e.g pivot/tilt etc. However I haven't been able to get the monitors to swivel but I don't care that much about that feature.

There are a lot of good deals on the internet so I suggest that buyers shop carefully before making a purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Monitor
I did a lot of research before I bought this monitor, as I do with every major electronic purchase I make. I compared this monitor with several others that are on the top ten lists and found that along with this monitor there were a couple others of what appears to be equal quality. I chose this monitor for price, at roughly 620, as well as quality. I've had the monitor for about 3-4 months and have found it to negative some of the negative reviews that it had experienced, especially with game playing. This monitor works really well with games, including everquest, which was knocked hard. Perhaps those reviewers didn't have the computer to support the monitor/game or they were using the highest resoultion possible in game-not sure. I was aggrivated though with those reviews because it almost changed my mind from buying this monitor. One of the biggest reasons I wanted to buy a new monitor was because of eye strain I was experiencing with the crt I had, of which this monitor does a great job of prohibiting. I work a lot on this computer and I don't experience any eyestrain. The picture is extremly good...I noticed this especially when I compared it to a friend's who had a crt-there was an atonishing difference-the picture is really nice. Installing this monitor was a breeze. The only reason I gave this monitor 4 stars instead of 5 was because it tends to load certain webpages a lot slower than others-I'm not sure why. I'm not really great with computers but I do know the basics...I have a high quality computer and I can't load certain sites hardly at all at times. I did not experience this with my old crt at all, but I don't think this lcd is any different than others in that I think all lcd's will have the same quality. Even with that, I wouldn't trade this lcd for any other, nor ever go back to a crt. Hope this helps in your decision-making.

1-0 out of 5 stars Picture tube has a problem
My personal experience:
I bought the Samsung SyncMaster 700NF monitor as it had excellent display resolution and I liked it.
The problem:
The display just goes blank, with the picture tube just not working. The LED on the front goes from solid green to blinking yellow.

I have taken this very heavy 40+ lbs monitor back an forth to the Samsung service center 4 times now and this problem has not been fixed, they even gave me a different monitor and this problem still exists. Not a good experience for me. Maybe I got lemons :(

4-0 out of 5 stars A really good monitor
I have had the Samsung SyncMaster700NF for 3 weeks. Quite good one, sharp and accurate color, easy to tune, reasonable price.I bought this model after comparing with other brands (NEC,Viewsonic,Sony),I should say that Sony is the best ,but it does not worth that much, about 50 percent higher price.
The only shortcoming with 700NF is that there are two very thin horizontal lines on the screen it is said normal from the user manul, but they make me uncomfortable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best 17" monitor on the market
I spent several weeks looking at every 17" monitor I could find in my local electronics chains stores, comparing MAG's, Viewsonics, Phillips, Sonys, NEC's, and a variety of cheaper brands. I have also used Dell, Compaq and Gateway house brand monitors in the past. This Samsung blows them all away in every category. It has the brightest, most vivid and most accurate colors of any monitor I have seen. Its text and other detailed displays are razor sharp and exceptionally readable and easy on the eyes. The screen has a very effective anti-reflective coating; the only minor criticism I have of this monitor is that the anti-glare coating makes the screen a bit difficult to clean. The electronic controls on the pull down control box are easy to use. This monitor is not only a premium performer, but has a reasonable price. You can buy monitors that are more or less expensive than this Samsung, but you can't buy one that has a better display or is a better value. I am more satisfied with this purchase than virtually any other (of several dozen) items of computer or electronic gear I have purchased in the past ten years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Overall, a great monitor
Overall, the monitor is very nice, the screen controls are all located on a retracting panel that is pretty intuitive. I run it at 1280x1024 with 16 bit color. Text is razor sharp and playing Flight Simulator on it will make you feel like you really are flying over the streets of Chicago. It will also display just as fine at 32 bit color, but the human eye can even distinguish beyond 16 bit, so 32 is just a waste of resources. (I will probably hear the wrath of a few die hard gamers over that last statement.) For people with many USB devices, Samsung has also built a USB hub (sold separately) that fits into the base of the monitor. The only two nitpicks I have about the monitor are that it does have a big footprint, I think the casing is a little bit bigger than it needs to be, and for some reason mine has two faint lines (I cant see them unless my nose is touching the screen) running horizontally about 1/3 and 2/3 up from the bottom. Its really only visible fainly when you are looking at something white, and it may be more of a fault of mishandling by UPS, but I just thought I'd share this tidbit, if anyone else has a similar problem, let me know. Other than that, this is a fine monitor, and the three year standard warranty make it a worthwhile purchase. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Samsung 150MB 15" LCD Monitor w/TV tuner
Okay, was it 'really' a business necessity? You bet! I waited until I could get a knowledgable clerk to answer my questions and concerns and then I pounced! This hybrid's predecessor made you choose: tv or pc; pc or tv, and you had to manually flip a switch....one or t'other. Not so with this baby....surf the net, analyze spreadsheets, get and answer mail, write a letter...none of this interferes with your fav show peeking at you from the lower left hand corner (or right hand corner, or whatever and wherever you choose to put it).

It simply doesn't get any better than this (that is...at least this month!).

Buyers and daydreamers note: we use a wireless connection for our DSL, but as far as we know, you still must have a hard connect to your cable to make this PC/TV function as you envision.

The choice we are forced to make is: move the office to the cable connection or the connection to the office.

Either way, the 150MP is inevitable. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars pretty nice
this was my first lcd screen. got it about 10 months ago now... so far just 2 dead pixels and its hard to see them. other than the typical dead pixel problems of LCD's, the moniter has been very nice for me. i can play unreal tourny without lcd lag, and the color is, at the least, average if not above average. a good solid screen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!
This is a must for anyone who wants to have a monitor that doesn't take up any space! It's extremely thin and the quality of it is just amazing.

At first the screen is way too bright but adjusting it to a preferred level is great! You will have it amazing. Playing games on it is great and makes me not want to go back to CRT ever again.

It's an amazingly thin monitor which is great and it allows you to adjust the position of the screen, lowering or raising it depending on how you want it and you can tilt the screen. Another great thing about it is that you can fold it up very easily and carry it around with you to a LAN party or you can wall mount it, it comes with a kit to mount it onto a way. Superb!

It's a must buy!

1-0 out of 5 stars Unsatisfied
I am very disappointed with the samsung 152t.Yes it is very bright and light weight. But it is too bright, all of the light colors are washed out even after tweaking the colors from windows and turning the brightness down all the way. There is an uneven light glow around the entire rim that is worse than other lcd's I've owned. The brightness bleeds out of white objects into surrounding darker areas. The lcd leaves trails much worse than other lcd monitors that have lesser stats. The bad pixels stand out like stars on a clear night. There are much better buys for the dollar out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent LCD for its class!
I've seen and used several LCDs before, but this one I decided to buy. I own a SyncMaster 152S, which is exactly the same as 152T except its only available in Germany. It is truely an exceptional moniter! it's super light weight, the performance is excellent- you can view screen on all angles (although it says 140 degrees on the specs, but in reality it's really much more), the things can get brighter then my old CRTs and LCDs, and the resolutions are amazing, no blurs or anything like that when scrolling, movies and games run perfect!
this SyncMaster series had always been on the top list of many professional reviews (ZDnet for example), I didn't think much of them until I bought one. If you want a 15 inch LCD screen, get this, its not the cheapest of its kind but trust me its worth every penny.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Quality
This is a true buy.If you are looking for [an inexpensive] 15' LCD sceen, this is not the one to get.But if you are looking for a quaity display and willing to spend an extra [$$] for a nice monitor, then this is the one to purchase.
It is a true beauty and I would recommend this to anyone in the LCD market. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great all around monitor that performs great in all areas
This LCD monitor is simply superb. Even when it is powered off, it looks superb. A 17" screen that is only about 2" thick. This is a very compact and extremely lightweight LCD (10.4 lbs) that displays gorgeous visuals for PC, TV, and my PS2.

I have a GeForce2 graphics card, and the image quality at its native resolution of 1280x1024 is bright and crystal clear with great vivid colors. You must make sure to touch the Auto adjust button which calculates the best image quality for the signal coming from your video card signal at each resolution. After you do, even the scaled-down resolutions of 1024x764 or 800x600 is very good. (At these lower resolutions, games have an anti-aliased look.)

I also have the highly-respected Samsung 770TFT, and using the 770 as a benchmark for comparison, the 171MP seems to outperform the 770 overall in picture quality, especially in brightness. Blacks look very black (best I've seen on an LCD), and the presence of the backlight cannot be detected in full-screen black, even around the far edges of the screen.

TV quality seems to be better than on a regular television, having higher detail and clarity. However, the quality of the TV output on the 171MP seems dependent upon your incoming TV signal. On a weak or bad signal, the 171mp's TV mode will bring out all the noise and graininess more so on its high-resolution screen, possibly making TV viewing worse than on the television in your living room. So make sure to have a good strong signal. If you don't, lowering the sharpness will help. Btw, the remote controller is great and does not have the problem of the 150/170mp models; the remote sensor is very sensitive, and one does not have to point towards the screen to change channels.

As far as viewing moving images, the display performs wonderfully. I use WinDVD, and DVD movies look absolutely stunning and incredibly detailed and sharp (appears sharper than the 770). Ghosting and "trails" is very minimal in the 171MP, a problem prevalent in most LCDs today. "Trails" is slightly noticeable in high-motion fast-paced FPS games such as UT and Q3, but not enough to detract from your fragging performance. Playing FPS games on the 770TFT was barely bearable, but now with the 171MP, it is an improved LCD fragging experience.

Lastly, playing console games with this thing is near unbelievable. Once you plug your Playstation2 with the Monster S-video cable for PS2 into the 171mp, you realize that you were missing out on the true graphical capability of the PS2. If you have been playing games such as GT3 on a normal TV and you thought the graphics for GT3 were impressive, then I must tell you that playing on the 171mp with monster s-video makes GT3 even more impressive. It almost seems as if your PS2 is suddenly outputting video at a higher resolution. This setup makes the PS2's graphics seem better than the Xbox. This graphical improvement of the PS2 is not seen when connecting the monster cable to a regular TV--so it is the 171mp that is bringing out the best of the PS2.

The speakers on this monitor are better and more powerful than the 150/170mp, and they are surprisingly very good for built-in monitor speakers, which are usually disappointing.

Overall, this monitor is THE ONE for anyone who is seeking great image quality, style, multitasking work with play, easy portability for presentations or LAN parties, or a compact all-in-one entertainment center.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's pretty nice
The design is wonderful. The tilt is adjustable. It's great for watching DVDs, but get up close and you'll notice that it suffers from not having a DVI connection; text looks like it's smudged, sort of ghosty-like, even at the native resolution. If you're just looking for a flat panel television then it's great, but if you need a computer monitor look for something with a digital interface. ... Read more
