5-0 out of 5 stars I love this joystick
I bought this joystick because I didn't want to spend $100 on of that force-feed back joysticks and I'm glad. I'm left handed and when I purchased this I was told that it was one of the few that will switch to fit the left hand. For that alone it disserves props, but it also has a throttle and that makes for great speed control. The point of view hat is great for the WWII game I use; it allows me to check my tail when before I couldn't and that caused many deaths.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not built for Longevity...
I have had this joystick for only a year. It is now not able to be calibrated! It no longer remains stable. I recommend spending the extra money for a really good joystick.

4-0 out of 5 stars Saitek J18 Cyborg Stick 2000
Saitek comes out of the box set up for right-handers it's very easy to adjust any part of the stick. Watch for small parts while you're adjusting the joystick. The adjustment is fairly easy. Every part is secured by a bolt. In order to adjust a part, you'll need to unscrew it, adjust the part, and replace the screw. The joystick components are very well made, with a strong sturdy feel durring play. The shape of the joystick is symmetrical down the middle. Large hands won't be cramped, and small hands won't be stretched. This stick is called "Cyborg 3D" is because it has 3D Twist control like the MS Sidewinder. The stick is connected to the base by a metal spring, which bends as the stick is twisted. The connection cord is around 6 feet long

Recomended: smooth, comfortable and sturdy design. enough buttons with a hat-switch, throttle and R-Z twist axis. Ability to "calibrate" the axis'. nice look look. fair 6' cable length. Should be 10' ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

The Saitek P120 is a no-frills, no-nonsense game controller. Its sturdy design can take a beating and still perform time and time again. With four buttons, two triggers, and a comfy directional pad, the Saitek P120 is pleasantly ergonomic, with all of the buttons placed in easy reach.

One particularly nice touch is the P120's removable directional pad extension, which acts as a mini-joystick, making controlling the directional pad that much easier. Button response is quick, and the directional pad has perfect resistance. You'd be hard-pressed to find a comparable gamepad at this price.

Connecting to the 15-pin gameport plug, the Saitek P120 doesn't support USB. It doesn't include drivers, either, so installing the gamepad consists of manually configuring it using the Windows Control Panel. Once it's calibrated, it's ready to go. There are no game profiles or special configuration options here. Still, that doesn't detract from the Saitek P120's main ability--a durable grip and responsive control. This gamepad is sure to make your gaming life a little easier and more comfortable at a price that's sure to bring a smile to budget-minded gamers. --Dan Simpson

1-0 out of 5 stars Serious Gamers, Stay Clear!
This gamepad is complete garbage. I bought it for my parents to use on their computer and am totally disappointed with it. My folks like to play lots of console type games on their PC, which is what these gamepads are supposed to be best at. But this controller has buttons that you have press really hard (even the directional pad) in order to ilicit a response. The operation is clunky, but the ergonomics make it feel wonderful in your hands. So if you get to touch one before you buy it (a la Best Buy), you'll be completely fooled by the great feel of it. If you want professional responsiveness from your gamepad, stick with Microsoft's Sidewinder series. Even the most basic Sidewinder is wonderful!

4-0 out of 5 stars The right price
I got this pad because it was cheap, it had the four buttons that I needed, and it was ergonomic. My hands are always very comfortable holding this controller, even when I've been gaming for the last few hours. The directional pad is very unique. There is a circular attachment that fits in the bottom of the controller to give you a standard d-pad. You can take this attachment out and plug it in to the center of the d-pad, making the d-pad higher and more like a joystick (as shown in the picture of the controller). I play with it almost exclusively like this. I haven't been able to use the triggers in the current EA Sports games that I've been playing, so count on four buttons. If you are looking for more options (buttons) in your games, I highly recommend upgrading to the six-button Microsoft USB Sidewinder Pro.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Action
When using this game pad for fast action racing, the response is excellent. I like to use the thumb stick that's included for racing, but the only problem is that the stick can become loosened if it's not put in well enough. When I finally screwed it in a bit hard it finally stayed. I've had a lot of fun with it.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Decent Game Pad
This Saitek controller is certainly a solid gamepad. The directional controller is a bit awkward, but you can get used to it. The action buttons are also a bit too stiff -- This pad is a decent deal for ten bucks, but the Interact Piranha is an overall better design (and cheaper). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Wheel Ever
I love this wheel. I used it with my kids and Sierra's Driver's Ed 1998. It is extremely realistic and surprising easy to use. I think this wheel is worth well over $200 so at under$50 it is a steel!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Wheel Ever
I love this wheel. I used to help my children learn to drive with Sierra's Driver's Ed 1998. It is the most realistic feeling wheel and it is surprisingly easy to use. I would be willing to pay $200 for this, but at under $50 it is a steel.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good But Made Cheeply
This game controllor is very delicut! I wouldn't sugest this controller to some one who is into F1, Nascar, and Need for speed racing games. How ever if you like driving games like Drivers Ed, and The Worlds #1 Truck Driving school this is the right cntrollor for you.

For F1, Nascar, and Need For Speed racing games I would defenently recomend the Thrustmaster Made by Fororri. It is by fare the best coputer game of the year!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Item
This A great racing wheel. To start off the price is great... It is very easy to install. I use it mostly for Viper Racing, and it runs great and feels better than a keyboard. It would be better if it came with Force Feedback, but its great for the price, if you want a good racing wheel get this one.

2-0 out of 5 stars I highly recommend paying extra to get a better wheel!
I bought this wheel for a gaming rig I am building for a friend and went solely from the recommendations made from this site, which leads me to believe that no one that posted a review has ever had any experience with any other wheel.

First off, this wheel can only be configured as a 4-button, 2-axis joystick, which is easy enough to do but offers bad response times and terrible precision. Wheels that have specific drivers written for them have better control, hands down. My other complaint is that it uses the game port instead of a USB connection, which also slows down the response time of the wheel and other controls, but since this is a budget-priced product I can forgive that. Playing NFS: Porsche Unleashed with this wheel was frustrating to say the least, and after switching to a sidewinder game pad, I had better control by far. If you can drive better with a game pad instead of a wheel then there is something definately wrong with the wheel.

The other problems with this wheel are the small wheel size, which may cause problems with large-handed people, and the placement of the two buttons on the wheel, which can be hit very easily by accident, possibly causing problems if either are configured for a hand-brake or to view another direction. Also, the VERY light and small pedal base needs to be braced or weighted down somehow or it will slide all over the place (may work all right on carpet, but on a chair mat or any other smooth flooring will cause a problem). My last complaint is the quality (or lack there of) and flimsiness of the levers on the left and right behind the wheel, typically used for gear shifting up and down. I thought I was going to break these the first time I tested the wheel. The cheap plastic won't last long at all under heavy usage and it won't make you happy to have to wait for a warranty repair (though as cheap as this wheel is you will probobly just get another one).

If you want a quality wheel, you probobly won't be happy with this one. I suggest a USB port wheel, like the Thrustmaster Nascar Pro Digital, also available here, which is about as good as they come. Things to look for are a large heavy pedal base, a dual clamping wheel base (though the Saitek wheels' one clamp worked very well), and multiple configurable buttons on the wheel (two just doesn't cut it for most games and you will still be utilizing the keyboard), as well as a separate gearshift (unleass you prefere to always go automatic). I usually don't recommend a force-feedback wheel because all the ones I have tried become more annoying after a while and certainly don't immerse me into the game anymore than not using the force-feedback functions, but thats just me.

I hope this more detailed review helps you out with your purchase and have fun! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Force Feedback Feeling for All Games
I initially got this mouse and the Logitech iFeel mouse for FPS games, like UT2003 and MOHAA. But not too many games seemed to support this mouse's force feedback feature, until Immersion Corp released "instant" force feedback software (TouchWare Gaming software) that let's you "feel" nearly every game with this mouse. You can feel weapons, explosions and any other sound in any game, including strategy games live CIV3. If you already have this mouse or any FF device, do yourself a favor and look into the TouchWare Software too. I've been enjoying the "feel" of Max Payne 2, Call of Duty and XIII recently. It's way cool.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's fun

Amazon.com Review

If you're serious about racing on your PC, you'll want a serious racing wheel. While it may cost you a bundle, a high-end racing wheel should come with all the latest features, including force feedback. Saitek's R4 Force Wheel is such a product, using the same technology as the Microsoft Force Feedback Wheel, making it a remarkably similar product.

The R4 isn't the easiest peripheral to set up: in addition to the normal set-up activities--such as plugging in the pedals and hooking up the wheel to your PC's game port--you have to screw on the actual steering part of the wheel, snap on the crossbar, and attach the clamp. But Saitek threw in all the tools you'll need for setup (including a nifty adjustment tool that hides away in a storage compartment on the wheel), so you should be able to get the wheel up and turning in less than a half-hour.

The R4 boasts a slick design, and almost everything's adjustable, from the height of the wheel right down to the force required to push the pedals. The wheel itself features a comfortable rubberized grip, and the twin shift paddles are within easy reach. We had some trouble getting the right action button to register in our tests and games, but that was because it had been stuck in when the wheel arrived. After popping it out, we were ready to go.

So how's the force? Pretty darn good. The wheel includes a variety of realistic feedback actions, such as running over a pothole or smashing head-on into an oncoming vehicle. As with the rest of the wheel, you can easily adjust the Force Feedback levels.

At $150, this wheel ain't cheap. But if you envision yourself as the digital Jeff Gordon, you'll need to sit behind a wheel with all the virtual bells and whistles--and the R4's got 'em.

Pros:

  • Great Force Feedback effects
  • Comfortable design
  • Easily adjustable

Cons:

  • Fairly expensive
  • Setup can be tricky

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, for a starter
After years of using keyboard and mouse for games I picked this joystick/pad combination. It's easy to install in Windows XP - plug it into your USB port and it autodetects and installs, then seperate the two halves and it will install a second time as just the pad. Response is fairly good, and you've got two buttons ont he stick, six on the base, along with a throttle sliders, and you can use the pad's directional controller as a 8 way hat switch. The only thing is really lacks is 'twist' controller on the joystick. All in all I'm happy with it, and it's a great deal for the low price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Multipurpose controller works well in both modes
This guy is Unique.
It works BOTH as a pad and as a stick.
Leave them plugged together and you have stick with trigger, 6 buttons, D-pad and smooooth slider throttle. Oh, and the 2 joypad triggers on the side too. Nicely sculptured comfort to the stick. Left-hand controls for the 6 buttons and D-pad. These you can reconfigure with Saitek's downloadable programming software.
Pull out the pad and you have a regular 2-trigger, 6-button + D-pad pad. A bit angular in its Starwars shape, it sits well in bigger hands.
What happened in the guts when you pulled out the pad? It told the PC that the stick signed out and the pad signed in, and a second later you're ready to go. From then on the stick is an orphan: no cable, no function.
That is, until you want to use the stick again. Plug them together again (one quick push and snap), and the check-in / check-out is reversed.
Clever concept: saves space, wires and a USB port on the desk; gives you more controls for your money; works fast, responsive and trouble-free. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple, rugged, always on
There are 2 kinds of hubs:
1. simple ones that take power from the PC and pass it on to the USB clients, and
2. expensive ones that use an external adapter to boost that output power for the clients. If you have power-hungry clients, that's the way to go.
Saitek's is the first kind. It's simple, stable, elegant and unobtrusive.

2-0 out of 5 stars No power, no 2k support
I bought this hub without doing enough research and paid the price. This hub doesn't have an external power source so you're very limited in the devices it will support. It won't support my scanner, camera or force feedback joysticks.

I ended up buying another hub (Belkin) that has an external power source to replace this one.

Also, it doesn't seem to work under Win 2000 either. Maybe that's my fault, but I can't find any support information on it either. In fact, I can't find any information on it even on Saitek's site. Maybe that's a clue. ... Read more
