5-0 out of 5 stars They were thinking of me- and the other 6% of the population
There were two joysticks available with a Z-axis twist function that also accommotated us poor, neglected lefties. This one, the Saitek, was just cooler, and I liked the fully customizable grip and buttons. I have to say I was thrilled with this stick, having just come off a rightie-only Logitech Wingman stick. The Cyborg 3D USB has proven to be a reliable device; everything still works, and the only degradation present is some minor cracking of the rubber boot at the base of the stick, but I attribute that to my L33t D06fi6HtiN6 5KiLLZ!!! This absolutely the perfect stick for games like Independence War, Freespace, any dogfighting simulator, really. It is especially well suited to Independence War since control of the Corvette is designed to be as physically realistic as possible. The twist Z-axis control is indispensible, as are the fully positionable weapon selector buttons. I bought mine a couple of years ago, and have yet to find another stick that provides such a precise feel, in left-or-right handed use. It truly does look and feel like a precision-engineered intrument of dire threat to any Indie Patcom, Corvette, or Destroyer that dares provoke my penchant for viciously convoluted dogfighting maneuvers. Di3, 3viL ri6Hti3-oNLy 64M3 coNtroLL3rZ!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars ....BUT! Is it Mac friendly?
Nowhere in the ads does it indicate that they didn't bother formatting it for iMacs (and it says USB). I'm hoping they did because the reviews are pretty convincing! Too bad it's out of stock for now. Will post a more complete review when I get it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cyborg 3D rocks!!
Hi, I've had this joystick for quite some time, and I can tell you that the way that you can adjust everything on it is great, because you can reach, almost of the buttons (I say almost, because I'm right handed and hence the left shift button is impossible to reach during a dogfight). I wrote this review basically to give one tip to people who have no clue of what to do with the right shift button (for lefties, the left shift button). What I reccomend is to use it as an afterburner button, it's right close to the throttle, and it just fits that role perfectly.

sorry, I just had to say that...

5-0 out of 5 stars Saitek J13 Cyborg 3D USB -> A total plug-play joystick
Last night I went out and bought the Saitek J13 Cyborg 3D(twist) *GOLD* joystick. I exchanged my "stupid" game boy color, for this beautiful joystick. I had been researching about this particular joystick for quite some time, and seeing, that it was better than the 2000 version, which has NO 3D twist, I choose the J13 3D model. It just so happens that the one they had at Software Etc. was the "New" gold version.... If you have a choice, get the gold version, #1 it looks better, and #2 it has drivers that are all up to date. You can still download these drivers, but I thought this was neater, because the newest driver download was 5 megs. The joystick performed very well on the games I have. I tryed it on Freespace 2, and it proformed great. It was a bit sluggish at times, this is probably because I didnt switch over to analog for Freespace 2. Thats another neat thing, the ability to switch between analog and digital. I also tested the joystick on Crimson Skies. It proformed very well on this, giving me the upper hand against all opponents. Before the joystick, I used the keyboard. My machine gun accuarcy on Crimson Skies, was 5%. With the Cyborg, it is now 45%. That is one hell of an increase. This is a joystick that is total plug and play. I inserted the disk, got the drivers off the disk. Restarted. Pluged it in. And made up some controls for my games, and voila, I was playing better than ever. This a much superior joystick to the sidewinders, because the joystick, has a feel like a piston. You feel like you are holding a German Made Weapon Of Mass Destruction. When you pull the trigger, a mechanical "Click" is heard. Satisfyingly all the buttons do the same thing. On other joysticks the buttons dont click and the stick has a plasticky junky feel. This stick is also non-sweat. Get sweaty palms when dogfighting? This stick is for you. It has a special coating that doesnt let sweat stick. Very nice! Over all this joystick is a must have for the flight enthusiastic person. It has the look of a preying-mantis, or an alien. It is a deadly piece of equipment, BUY IT...! IT IS WORTH IT! TRUST ME! AND DID I SAY LEFT HANDED PEOPLE CAN USE IT TO? THERE IS A SMALL TOOL THAT LETS YOU ADJUST EVERYTHING, VERY COOL! GET IT!, BE HAPPY!, DONT BE SAD!

4-0 out of 5 stars Supreme concept, few flaws
Let's just call this bad boy the Cyborg, make's things a lot easier, and after a few missions on your favorite sims, you'll think it's an extension of your arm.

The Cyborg's primary feature and trademark is the nearly full customizability, not just of the buttons, but the action design and shape of the joystick itself. With an ingenious tool that fits snuggly and securely on the base, you can adjust the handrest according not only to the size of your hand, but accordingly to your left or right handedness. This is especially helpful for those long missions, reducing the strain on your hand muscles, and gives you the extra stability needed for fine control and precise maneuvers.

The thumb pad (home to three thumb-activated triggers and the hat-stick) is also customizable, with a forward-back tilt allowing it to adjust to your thumb length, and a left/center/right tilt to fit your particular preference and (again) handedness. (They really wanted to make the Cyborg fully usable by lefties... not a priority for me, but it may be for you.)

The Cyborg itself is molded with a rubberized plastic, offering a great grip, secure throughout the mission. Having a secure grip is especially useful, as you can actually rotate the stick itself (left and right), allowing fine rudder and turning control--a feature also useful in FPS gaming for strafing.

On the flip side, they may have taken the left/right-handedness thing too far, as the four buttons on the base (which I've used for targetting and weapons management) are inconvienently positioned for use in the middle of a dogfight. I want to be able to use my thumb, resting on the base, to manipulate the buttons by feel... not have to look down and tap them with my index finger.

Further, the advertised "16 programable functions" is something of an exaggeration, as they -must- be including the hat-stick in this measurement, and "shift" button which is again entirely inaccessable due to the would-be abidexterity of the stick. Still, I haven't had a problem finding space for the commands I really need, but I'm used to having extra buttons serving no purpose, not having to prioritize which I really need on the stick, and which I'll make do with the keyboard.

But against the measure of control, stability, and solid performance this stick offers, these complaints are small potatoes. I'd definitely recommend the Cyborg to anyone looking for a controller primarily-oriented towards flight sims, with secondary importance placed on FPSs. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Playstation Saitek
As far as it looks, this must one of the best PC's gamepad, of the format and buttons to Analog Control for Playstation!
Think about it: You, playing in your Playstation emulator with your eyes not so tired, since you, a gamer of Playstation, already knows the location of the buttons and don't have to keep in head a bunch of things of the keyboard like "A = L1, Q = L2, L = R1, O = R2, etc" and sometimes miss the right button in the keyboard (press W instead of Q, etc.) and get pretty screwed in the game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great joystick, Great Price, but no Windows 2000
This is one of the best joysticks I've used, and dollar for dollar it a great deal. It a rugged, can be customized, and has just enough weight to keep it stable.

The only minus is that Saitek will not support this model under Windows 2000. It will work under W2000, but you'll need to define a custom config for it, and you will lose access to some features.

1-0 out of 5 stars PC only means PC only!
Ignore the MacAddict article that appears on the item description page. It is referring to the USB version of this item, which is not what Amazon is selling here. This has some sort of PC-only gameport connector.

5-0 out of 5 stars very reliable
This joystick has lasted longer than any other joystick I have ever owned, which is alot.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nearly but not quite
If the wow factor is important to you, then this stick has it coming out of its ears. With its high tech appearance it's bound to get a few admiring glances, and its sleak matt anti-slip finish is a joy to hold. I think Saitek must also be praised for its attempts to make this stick so adaptable. The supplied key tool can be used to raise and lower the hand support for any size of hand and it can also be switched to the opposite side, as can the throttle lever, making it suitable even for left handed players. The top buttons can also be adjusted in two planes for added comfort. So where is the achilles heal? Well, for one, the point of view hat is positioned in a way that makes it very hard to use without accidentally pressing one of the three buttons in front of it (unless you happen to have an incredibly long thumb that is). Also, there are definite problems with stray signals during games causing twitches. Saitek's latest drivers claim to have cured this problem, but even with them installed there were still stability problems evident. Finally, within a day of purchase, the trigger became so tight that it was not releasing the microswitch. The addition of a little light machine oil seemed to cure this problem, but for how long remains to be seen. I dearly wanted this to be the perfect stick, but it ended up a bit of a letdown really. Fingers crossed for the next model eh!

4-0 out of 5 stars Throw out the keyboard --
I have never liked the keyboard for use with action/shooter type games (Doom, Unreal, Elite Forces)..
I would have to look down at the keys and my fingers would move and it was very fustrating.

I was actually looking for a mouse with a hat where the scroll
wheel usually is (I never found one) when I stumbled upon the
Saitek GM3 Action Pad.

The reviews were mixed but I decided to buy it.

It works GREAT!! I think the SHIFT key could be better placed..it so far from the other keys I don't use it. But everything else is AWESOME! The hat keeps you from having to press the keys on the keyboard and the scroll wheel is great for strafing..and the other buttons are placed fairly well.

One thing I have noticed. I used to have a larger desk and I had room to place the GM3 at the 2:00/8:00 position for the most comfort. I now have a much smaller desk and I have to place the controller almost straight up and down. It's harder to get to some of the keys in that position. I want my old desk back!

I recommend this for any 3rd person shooter game!

5-0 out of 5 stars Solid and fast responding
I was going to buy the Belkin hand pad, but found this one at a local retailer for really cheap. I figured for that price I could take the risk. Boy was I surprised! Not only was it worth more than I had anticipated, I couldn't game without it anymore. Once you figure out how to program the buttons, this little number is GREAT!!! Unfortunately, it is difficult getting this thing to work with the Cyborg Feedback joystick from Saitek.

2-0 out of 5 stars Excellent concept- Falls far too short in its implementation
I was looking for something like this to play keyboard/mouse type of games (I'm a Diablo II junkie).

Unfortunately, the pad has the feel of a really cheap game pad (well, probably worse). Don't expect to use the pad's 8-way control or the mouse's 4-way button correctly. You should expect to get about half their functionality (4 and 2) - don't expect any accuracy if you try to use more.

If you're a Diablo II player (or play another game that requires the use of many keyboard buttons) don't expect this to fulfill your need to remove the keyboard completely from the gameplay; so if you want to replace the keyboard, look elsewhere - just not enough functionality here.

Excellent idea though and I really do like the idea of the mult-way button, but just very poor execution. I don't know how good Microsoft's implemention is, so I can't compare the two; however, my next step is to get a better mouse with some more functionality (ie 1 or 2 more programmable buttons).

4-0 out of 5 stars Specialty pad for those keyboard PLUS mouse games
I bought this controller pair for a SPECIFIC reason: to play Soldier of Fortune competitively online. Player movement is enhanced due to the hat control used in conjunction with the mouse. My juke moves have caused a few opponents to accuse me of cheating, hee hee!

There are a lot of options controlled by the keyboard in this game, and nearly impossible to use thoroughly without taking your eyes off the screen (and almost certainly getting fragged). The programmable game pad solves this problem quite nicely, with a Shift key to double the button functions and macro capabilities as well. Oh, it fits your hand nicely, too. The wheeled mouse even has a 4-way POV thumb switch (in the heat of battle, I can't ever remember to use it though).

USB makes it a snap to connect (as the mouse connects to the gamepad itself, not your computer) and the gamepad has built-in storage for unused cord length. You can program (easily) to your heart's delight or use a large selection of pre-set profiles available on Saitek's webpage for your favorite games.

I can only get 4-way movement out of the "8-way" hat switch, or I'd rate it a five!! A nice value for TWO controllers, as the mouse will function ably with any software when connected, but still works side-by-side with an existing attached mouse, thus avoiding those annoying switch-outs. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Coolest Keyboard Ever
This *IS* the coolest keyboard ever.Just for those instances in which someone sees it, it's impressive. In the dark, it's very very cool.It does have two light settings and off. It's also a very quiet keybaord, which is cool.

Cons:
1. It doesn't raise up very high, as in the back
2. No Hotkeys
3. Price

But I bought it, and am VERY happy with it. But, if I spend 6X what I normally pay for a keyboard, It would be nice to at least has a few programmable hotkeys. So I give it 4 stars, with a good recommendation. It's just the only keyboard of it's kind. It's pretty much your only option as of Spring 2005. I'm sure there will be more to come.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great product
My main preference for purchasing an illuminated keyboard was the ability to see the keys in dim lighting. I'm not a 'real' gamer... I just play Myst games.

I researched many illuminated keyboards to find there are many different layouts. I was looking for a layout similar to Dell's keyboard. Voila!!! Saitek's Eclipse keyboard is exactly what I was looking for! It's the same size as Dell's and it does exactly what I want it to do.

I like the backlit feature...you can see the keys in the dark. You also have the option to shut off the light. The keys are silver with black letters...easy to read during the day. I've had the product for a few days now and I am very happy with it.

Note it's also a quality keyboard...no problems typing...it actually feels the same as Dell's keyboard.

To anyone interested in purchasing this product, they won't be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best I've had
I just got this key board today.Way too cool. Got it for 39 bucks before it went up.... great deal.Ive been typing reports for 4 hours. It's a little different from my board of the last 3 years but I love it.Typing in the dark is even possible.Cool factor10+++Gott'a love it

4-0 out of 5 stars Finally they get it!
I purchased and returned the previous Saitek "illuminated keyboard".The main problem was that the illumination was behind the keys and the letters themselves were not transparent. Not only could you not see the letters in the dark, in the fading afternoon light you actually had better visibility with my old cruddy black with white letter keyboard.Very cool looking but not terribly useful. An addition appears to be the volume control which is just a gee whiz not an essential and gone is the standalone number pad.Another cool idea for recording macros and extra command strings for games but just not the easiest thing for me too use.The key board is already very wide and to ask for more room on my already crowded keyboard tray was not happening. Most of the performance mouse surfaces already take up a ton of space (remember this was supposed to be a gaming keyboard so performance mousing is a consideration) and placing this somewhere other than the tray made it WAY too slow for first person shooter type games. If you have to look at the keys, you're already dead. One problem here is the price in the store. The Amazon price is not outrageous so that's my suggestion. In summary this keyboard drops the non useful items and picks up the most important (see through keys!).Check your desk space though as it is very wide and not as tall as a normal board.Shallow trays = yes.Narrow trays = no good. This makes it look even "cooler" but it kept me from a 5 star rating along with the keys that like to pick up and show finger grease. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Saitek 3D Gold USB Joystick
I am very happy with this joystick. It installed without any problems. Although I don't really care for the software game extensions. Anyway I have used this joystick with Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3D, Star Wars Episode 1 Racers (the pod racing), and Star Wars Battle for Naboo. In each case my scores inproved over those I could obtain with a Sidewinder pro force feedback stick. I thiink the USB connection has alot to do with the better response speed. I found the Saitek 3D Gold comfortable and very precise after calibration. I just ordered a second one. Amazon has it (...)! This is a bargin I highly recommend this deal. My system is a P4 1.5 ghz 128mb ram 32 mb video card. It lets me play the games fast and furious. I am not that great at games but this joystick has helped me play much better. I have far more 1st place wins with the pod racers than I though possible for me as well as more gold medals in Rogue Squadron 3D. I also recommend these games.

5-0 out of 5 stars Saitek JI3G Cyborg 3D Gold USB JoyStick
Price Range:[money amount](US)
The best stick for the money!
Robust design tells you at first glance, "I WORK - HARD!"
I have not been able to put this stick down since I bought it.

The Good: The smoothest, most comfortable, full-featured stick on the market. Ten programmable buttons. Smooth throttle controller. Ambidextrous design. Adjustable for hand size and thumb length. Eight position hat switch. Wrist rest and palm bar for comfort and relief of fatigue. Features pre-configured profiles for "Heat", "Quake", and most other popular first person games flight simulators.

The Bad: Micro-switch trigger makes misfires easy. Small base for those who get "into" their gaming experience, may tip during high excitement encounters (consider mounting).

The Ugly: It just is! Saitek followed the mechanical appearance, but don't let that scare you off.

Another great job Saitek, keep 'em coming!

5-0 out of 5 stars Saitek JI3G Cyborg 3D Gold USB Joystick
This is maybe the best joystick I have ever owned. The 3D Rudder Twist,The 8 way hat switch,The ambidextrous design fit for left, right, and switch holders. The joystick also comes with a tool that is used for adjusting many parts of the joystick itself. This joystick has power and precision, two main "P's" reqired for a great joystick.Look how high the sales rank is for this joystick. To my opinion, this joystick could be better than Microsoft's Precision 2 joystick! The bad part may be that is is not force feedback which is alright with me since force does irritate my handling. The other problem is that I heard that there are some problems with loading the stick to the computer. This never happened to me due to the fact that my download was quick and easy. I think that problem only occurs to some people.Overall, this joystick is amazing, even having some extra downloads to the stick! As you have noticed Saitek joystick has a decent price for good quality stick. This is exceptional for MS Flight Simulator 2002.Finally, this stick comes with USB port.No joystick port? No problem.I highly recommend this stick to anybody who loves a quality joystick at a decent price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Needs a bit more meat to it.
I like it very much but I would like to see a bit more weight in the base. The feel is super. It plays 1942 very nice but I still have not gotten use to it for all of the game. I only use it for flying. I like having it being USB as it makes it very easy to setup as my system is very busy.
If you get this one, take time playing around with it before you put it on live.

Have fun and good luck, [AFS] SP6_Adamson

2-0 out of 5 stars good joystick, horrid software
the joysticks overall sesign was good, good response, and i really liked the throttle and button placement. The reason im giving this 2 stars because of the horrible software. I run Xp,and once you get it running its fine. The problem starts when you shut your computer off. once you turn your computer back on and if you try to use the joystick, it won't register, and you need to uninstall and reinstall the joystick software all over! This happens every time you shut down your computer, and it gets very annoying. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Sub-par
OK so i bought this thinking it would get me into the game. But, the first problem i ran into was the software. The manual described different software than what came with it. Then, i fired up BF1942. NOTHING HAPPENED. No force feedback or anything. Not only was there no force feedback, but the resistance is SOOO INCREDIBLY WEAK that it is impossible to fly planes or helicopters. And, as said before, it doesnt go all the way back to the middle when you let go. So, I returned it.
I do not recommend that you get this joystick

1-0 out of 5 stars Returned it on the second day
Well, I purchased this product to use with Flight Simulator 2002, and the joystick simply does not work. I don't feel any "force" nor is the joystick capable of being calibrated. The stick does not even go back to center after you let go. In addition to this, the product is shoddily made. The plastic throttle is flimsy and lacks a certain "umph" that the whole product has failed to deliver. In short, the word horrible comes to mind. Don't bother buying this. Ever.

5-0 out of 5 stars Solid piece of engineering
Bought the Saitek Cyborg 3d Force because of its rather sturdy and solid touch and feel, compared to its measly competitors.

It's not solid metal, but very tough!

The feedback is strong and makes all the difference when flying my good old MS Flight Simulator 98.

4-0 out of 5 stars decent stick
I had the rumble version of this stick for a few weeks, liked it and decided to upgrade to this force feedback stick. It works well, but seems to have a difficult time autocentering. This makes it difficult for use with flight sims and such.

If you follow the directions, you should have no problems installing the drivers. But, as others have said, don't expect to call an 800 number and get help.

4-0 out of 5 stars My first (and last) force-feedback joystick!
As a user, I like the size and style, and the fact that you can use it with your left or right hand. It is very quiet, has an interesting light that shows the amount of force it is delivering at the top of the stick.

I am not sure how strong the constant forces are compared to other sticks, I will be looking into that but if future reviews could include a comparison it will probably help users.

As a developer, my only concern have been with their web site (registration link from the CD came up 404 and their webmaster hasn't written me back or fixed the dead link in over a month), the XP installation process was challenging since the instructions are incorrect. The capabilities of the utilities they included are somewhat lacking, but Microsoft's DirectX SDK has a few tools that make up for it.

--- Additional information added 11/04/2002 ---
I have continued to have difficulty raising anyone responsible for their web site.

My company released a document comparing the Logitech and Microsoft products to this unit. The long and short of it is, this Saitek unit is the best bang for the buck. ...Saitek Cyborg 3D Force - By far the best value we found. It gets very hot after a short period of use. It has a symmetrical and high-tech look. Fire trigger is a little oversized. It has an intensity light on the top of the stick and a large "Saitek" illuminated electric-blue power light.

Logitech Wingman Force 3D - A close runner up on value! The lightest weight unit, stays cool, and works as a normal joystick when the power supply is not connected. It has the roughest movement, however, and makes audiable squeeling noises when full forces are used.

Microsoft Sidewinder 2 - A little pricey and the base is large and oddly shaped, but heavy to keep it firmly planted on a desktop. It can detect when your hand is present so it doesn't flop around. And the feel is by far the smoothest and strongest of the devices we tested. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bargain Bin Blessing
I bought this joystick not expecting much, but was very pleasantly suprised. It is durable under heavy use (I use it everyday). The control is reasonably precise, and is wide ranging. I would say with much confidence that this is the best PC controller in this price range, due to my usage of this and others.

3-0 out of 5 stars Hey It's Cheap
There's so many things that one could complain that i don't know where to start..1st of my biggest complate is that the sucker cups don't hold the stick firm for very long after your saliva has dried. And it's a major pain to calabrate this thing. But hey for how much it is it gets the job done. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Improve your bridge game even when you can''t put a foursome together with this portable bridge computer. The computer plays American 5-card, ACOL, and French 5-card bridge as well as rubber or duplicate bridge. The Pro Bridge 610 automatically shuffles and deals the virtual cards and the large screen shows your hand and your partner's hand and keeps track of the score and how many tricks have been made. The black-and-white screen layout can be a little confusing at first as it is much less intuitive than the colorful online bridge game layouts that many players are used to for practice. However, the intuitive button layout makes it easy to place bids and beginners can even retract bids to give themselves a second chance. Other beginner options include a hint button, which offers advice during play; a "view hand" function, which shows all hands; and a setting for watching the computer play against itself. Players can save games already in progress and resume them at any time. Pro Bridge 610 runs on three AAA batteries or an AC adapter (neither are included). --Cristina Vaamonde ... Read more

Pro Bridge 610 not ready for prime time
This is not a well thought out product. The buttons are small and their low contrast labels are difficult to decipher. Most problematic of all is the overall user interface. Any serious bridge fanatic is used to a PC or Palm application with logical graphics showing opponents where they sit at the table. This machine's fixed LCD characters and non-intuitive layout make simply following the game a chore. I found I had to constantly pause and get my bearings about where dummy was situated and which positions the rapid-fire computer was drawing cards from. That makes it hard to even remember the cards played and, often, what the contract even is. Another issue is the playing convention itself. Not being configurable, I found myself making the wrong assumptions about my 'partner's' hand. For instance, I made a straightforward Blackwood response to a 4NT bid and the computer left me stranded at the 5 level in a suit I barely owned. This toy goes back muy pronto. Hey Bridge Baron! Make an elegant hand-held bridge system and you can own the world!!

Helps me keep my game sharp
I much prefer to play with friends, but the Pro Bridge 610 is a pretty good way to play and getter better atthe game. The button layout takes some getting used to, but the screen is big, and has lighting.

My Father Returned his
I bought this for my father, age 73, but still a great bridge player.
He wore out his old Shadow Bridge 612 handheld.
He returned the pro bridge 610 because he couldn't get the sound to work
and found the keys hard to read--dark on dark print not a good idea. ... Read more
