Amazon.com Product Description

Ridata DVD+R media is known for excellent performance and stable, reliable data writing. This spindle features 100 DVD+R write-once discs that are compatible with 8x speed recordings. Designed for personal or professional use, Ridata's DVD+R discs utilize a high-performance phase change material which is ideal for mass storage and long archival life. Each disc holds up to 4.7 GB of data--which can store up to 120 minutes of high-quality video, or your collection of high-resolution photos or digital audio files.

What is DVD+R/RW?
DVD+R/RW is an erasable format based on CD-RW technology that became available in late 2001. It is supported by Philips, Sony, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Ricoh, Yamaha, and others, though it is not supported by the DVD Forum. DVD+RW drives read DVD-ROMs and CDs, and usually read DVD-Rs and DVD-RWs, but do not read or write DVD-RAM discs. DVD+RW drives also write CD-Rs and CD-RWs. The DVD+RW format uses phase-change media with a high-frequency wobbled groove that allows it to eliminate linking sectors. This, plus the option of no defect management, allows DVD+RW discs to be written in a way that is compatible with many existing DVD readers. DVD+R/RW discs hold 4.7 gigabytes (GB) per side and are readable in many existing DVD-Video players and DVD-ROM drives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Detailed info on latest discs from Amazon
(Please read entire review)
Some reviews posted here are from people who did not purchase this item from Amazon. The product lot number is totally different than the current stock of Amazon. The product lot that Amazon was/(is?) selling had/(has?) a large number of defective discs. People who bought their discs retail, and gave a review of good quality, isn't a good indicator of the discs you will get. Based upon the people who purchased their discs from Amazon and gave reviews, it seemed/(seems?) likely you will get a defective spindle. This may not be the case anymore.

(PLEASE READ ON)

I purchased a spindle in May 2004, and it contained about 70% defective DVDs. I returned it to Amazon in July as a defective product. They took the product back, even though it was past 30 days, and they paid for return shipping. (You won't get that great customer service at a retail store).

Amazon told me there would be a slight delay on my replacement discs because they were changing their supplier. I received my replacement discs about 10 days later. After inspecting the discs, I found no visible physical defects. I've burned about 10 discs and have had no failures. It would appear that the new supplier has corrected the defective product problems.

In conclusion, I would recommend this product from Amazon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality discs
I've been using Ritek (Ridata) +RW discs in my Philips DVDR80 dvd recorder for over 6 months. I've recorded approximately 200 of these discs with no "coasters." For those of you who don't know, many name-brand companies "repackage" Ritek discs under their own brand names at a higher cost to the consumer. Ridata is just Ritek's retail "brand" name.

3-0 out of 5 stars not very good
I got the first package and there were visible defects around the edges of all 25 discs. The discs would burn fine but then freeze and skip near the end when played. I returned it for a 2nd spindle and experience the same thing.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good Price for 4x DVD+RW, but quality is mixed
I've burned about 9 DVD+RWs from my spindle. I've had two failed burns. The burns failed and the disc cannot be erased. I've tried multiple programs and with no success to erase these bad discs. My hardware is LG GSA-4081B with latest firmware (v1.04). The other 7 discs have had no problems. Using DVDinfoPro2 I found the disc media info to be listed as Ricoh.
I would not buy these again, because they are unreliable. The quality of these DVD+RWs varies too much to use for important data archives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product
This is the best media I've used. And I use blank DVD quite and bit. Not one failed on me and it plays back on my DVD player without a problem. A definate 5 stars. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BUY IT NOW without worry
Bought 75 8X dvd+r. Burn all successfully. only takes with NEC-2500A with herrie modified version BETA 5 version 1.07 in less than 20 min read time and 8 minutes write time.

GOOD LUCK

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT discs but you may need a firmware update
These discs are great! At first, my NEC 2500a would only recognize these discs as 4X, but I upgraded my firmware to Herrie's v1.07 firmware and the discs burn fine at 8X now. SO before you bash on the media, check to see if you have the latest firmware and that your burner supports the full potential of these discs.

5-0 out of 5 stars great dvd+r
I have backed up about 50 movies of my collection with ridata dvd+r 8x dvd's and have'nt experienced any problems. As for the write speed i have seen any difference between the ritek dvd+r and any other brand i have tried, the burn time difference comes into play when burning a movie that needs to be heavily compressed. You will not find a deal like this anywhere else (70cents per disk for a 50pack), (i searched high and low on all the major deal sites, check ebay if you don't believe it) so jump in you won't regret it!!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Actual Write Speed
I paid the price of 8x speed, but only received 4x burning speed with the latest Nero 6.3.1.15 and the latest CopytoDVD 3.0.20 software. I have a new NEC DVD dual layer burner, model ND-2510A. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cheap but HQ media
I have purchased this media blindly for my TDK 440N and Sony DRU-530A. Fortunately the media works 100% on both my writers. They are very reliable too because I never had any coaster that people are talking about here on both my machines. Its well worth the money.

As a word of advise to those having coasters, check your writers, upgrade to the latest firmware, defrag your PC and as much as possible, when burning, dont do anything else on PC. I have burned close to a thousand DVD-Rs already and I can say I am quite an expert on coasters.

One cannot go wrong with Ridata. Same quality as the much more expensive Ritek.

1-0 out of 5 stars coasters
one out of 5 stars for the one out of 5 good burns I've had with these disks (and that was only at 2x). I have Pioneer A05 4x burner. I upgraded the firmware after the first three disk could not be burned at any speed and then got one to write at 2x. Using Toast 6.0 and have had good luck with memorex 4x media (occationally need to burn at 2x but almost never a coaster). I've never seen disks which come with scratches built right in like these Ridata ones. Yikes.

5-0 out of 5 stars G04's are some of the best media
I've burned about 100 of these without one error, either in the write process on my NEC-1300A, nor in playback on my computer or in my cheapo Toshiba dvd player. I use fast forward and rewind a lot, as I'm an impatient movie watcher, so these have gone through some hard work.

I had some problems with Memorex media, but then I read the reviews on videohelp.com. Hundreds of customer reviews are listed there, and you can match your exact burner to exact media for reviews of success and conpatibility. Ritek (or Ridata) G04's like these routinely get the highest ratings. They are in a class above any blank media you are likely to buy off a shelf in an electonics superstore. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Media
After purchasing this same media in a 25 pack, I had to jump on the 50 pack.
Same great quality as the 25 pack of 4x, G04 Ritek media burns flawlessly at 4x & plays back in any of my dvd drives or players.
The 25 pack discs have a clear disc center while the 50 pack of discs have an opaque center of the disc. Not that it makes any difference, just thought I'd pass that along.
Next step.... a 100 pack!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great DVDs
These DVDs burned perfectly at 4X on a Plextor 8X burner.

2-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for: this media burns at 2x, not 4x
I have an NU Tech DDW-082 dual format (+/-) writer, firmware version B370, and while it burns other brand DVD-R's at 4X or higher, it burns these Ritek's at 2x. The results are reliable and they play well in my Panasonic RV-31 DVD player. But these are not 4X disks, no matter what the label says.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality media at a very low price!
RiData is some of the cheapest highest quality DVDR media you can buy. It has lines for those of you who prefer lines for writing. Other than that the quality of the media is world renowned. Ritek is known for quality media. These discs burn and read perfectly on all players and burners I have tried. They burn fine at the 4x stated speed unlike what others have stated. This is the perfect blank DVD media. Don't hestitate, buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than other types I tried
I can't tell anything about 4x writing because my SONY DVD-R writer supports only 2x. Otherwise, the product seems to be perfect.

I used Optodisks before, and while I never had problems with burning and reading on PC, sometimes there were problems with reproduction on DVD-players (freesing picture e.t.c.).

Also I used some no-name DVD-blanks, and my burner just refused to write on them.

No problems with Ridata so far. Burn at 2x, no errors, no problems reproducing on DVD player. Will buy more. ... Read more

Ridata DVD+R media is known for excellent performance and stable, reliable data writing. This spindle features 50 DVD+R write-once discs that are compatible with 4x speed recordings.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad
My NEC 1100 A DVD burner also only burned at 2.4X even after firmware updated. However, my Plextor 708A burner is able to burn it at 4X.

5-0 out of 5 stars Help
Would these DVD+R work on my DVD Recorder ?

2-0 out of 5 stars Burns only at 2.4x
This media states to be 4x, but using my NEC 1300A, latest firmware, it burns only at 2.4x, no matter if I use Nero, Roxio or other burner software. The reason the idiot below can burn at 4x is because he has a different burner or because he may be using some hacked firmware.

So, beware buyer, this 4X media is actually 2.4x. The internal code is RITEK-R03-002. This is not the RICOH better media, unfortunately.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ridata by Ritek works great
My work and hobbies require that I burn massive amounts of dvds. I'm currently using the NEC ND-2500A drive and it burns fine at 4x. The reason the idiots above can't burn at 4x is because they didn't update their firmware, which is incredibly important for dvd burners since they're still at developmental stage. I've burned more than 200 in the last month and have yet to get a coaster.

5-0 out of 5 stars Looks good, and it is 4X
I follow Mr. Yang's suggestions and updated the firmware. So far I burned about 10 all at 4X. I am upgrading the rating. If you have not tried upgrading the firmware, try it you may be surprised. Very satisfied.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Ritek used to be
I got 2 packs of these few weeks ago. So far I got 1 coaster for my first pack and 3 coasters for my second pack. I have used NEC 2500A burner 1.07 firmware to burn these DVDs at 4X using DVD shrink and Negro. In the past, I have burned successfully 50 pack Ridata 4x DVD-R without any coaster.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great affordable media
I just received my 25 pack of these Ridata 4x dvd-r's and I'm VERY impressed so far... in fact I just ordered another 50.

(I recently tried some of those "grade A" dvd-r's that lots of people are selling on the internet, and while they do burn at their rated speed of 4x, 99.99% of the burned dvd's won't play back on any dvd player I own, including the drive they were burned with.)

With this in mind, I decided to try the Ridata brand of Ritek dvd's.
I have used other quality media like Imation & Verbatim with excellent results, and those discs had a mfg id of Ritek G03... exactly what these Ridata discs are. Imation & Verbatim 2x dvd-r's usually cost over a buck each.

My dvd-r/+r/-rw/+rw burner has been a bit sensitive to the media it will burn and so far every one of these Ridata discs have burned perfectly & at a max speed of 4.0x.
So far every one of the discs I've burned have played perfectly in all of my dvd players & drives too.

BTW: A normal 2x dvd-r burns 4gb+/- in about 30 minutes, these 4x dvd-r discs burn the same 4gb+/- in about 15 minutes!!
Of course you need to ensure that your drive supports 4x media and that you have all the latest patches & firmware updates.

I almost couldn't believe a quality 4x dvd-r could be found for about sixty cents a disc without buying them by the truckload.

The only complaints I have are:
1. The day after I purchased my 25 pack, amazon dropped the price a buck on the 25 pack and raised the price on a 100 pack by about twenty bucks.
2. The top of the discs have the Ridata images & logos etched on them.

1-0 out of 5 stars Useless for Sharp DV-SR3U recorder
The Sharp DV-SR3U recorder gives error message that it is unable to fix these Ridata disks and rejects them. Fuji disks have recorded flawlessly. In past I have used the unbranded matte Ritek disks successfully but I do not trust this Ridata product.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not burning at 4X speed
I'm a bit upset that it only can be burned at 2.4X speed. The label says 4X. All other brands that I have bought are able to burn at 4X except Ridata. But the price was right.....

5-0 out of 5 stars The best cheap dvd media
Ritek Ridata G04 4x DVD-R (w/ purple dye bottom) are the best cheap media available. I own a TDK 440 burner w/ firmware v.1.0A, burned 4x with Roxio Easy DVD Creator 6, and have had no coasters. They also work well in the Pioneer burners. The burned dvds are playable in every dvd player that I have tried: Toshiba, Sony, Apex, etc. I've sent home dvds to multiple friends and family members and they have all been able to play the dvds with no problems. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very satisfied
A few reviews of other blank DVDs on Amazon have touched on a troubling issue: scratched discs. Some people claim to be getting scratched discs from Amazon. Well, I received these discs by themselves, in a too-large box which they were rattling around in. I was ready to have to return them, but the discs themselves are absolutely flawless. No imperfections of any kind on the bottom, and I analyzed each of them carefully.
I've also burned four of these discs at 8x with no problems whatsoever. I'm very pleased with them, and at this price they're a steal.

Just order 4 packes.
Plays also in my old dvd palyers

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed User
I have been using Ritek/Ridata DVD-R and DVD+RW disks for several months and have been very satisfied. Not a bad burn yet. I was excited to order additional DVD+RW disks for their added versatility. My previous experience with the DVD+RW disks was with shiny top surface vs. matte surface with this order. I don't know if that makes any difference as the recording surface on both has the same appearance.

Disappointment resulted quite quickly. As a previous poster indicated, the disks all had a small ridge of scratched surface around the outer perimeter of the recording surface. In my case, the disks would appear to record correctly. It was not until I tried to access the files that it would generate an error. The disk was unreadable. I had at least 4 bad writes in the first 10 disks. It seems that it is only a problem with almost full disks. Partially used disk didn't seem to have a problem (in an unscientific sampling!). I will try a replacement order and if that one exhibits that same scratched area, I guess a refund will be the only option. Too bad because Ritek is usually an excellent brand that I have had good luck with, and the price was too good to pass up.

1-0 out of 5 stars Ordered July4 ship date was Sept 11
Ordered July 4 Ridata DVD+RW 4x 50 spindle, with the super saver shipping. Ship date was Sept 11, I was hoping it was a type-o, but I checked on July 11 and it still was not shipped. 2nd thing was that the order changed to DVD-RW, which I knew was not what I ordered as my burner only works with DVD+RW. Of course I could not find a number or email to call so I canceled the order.

2-0 out of 5 stars Scracthed discs abound
Received item in securely packaged box and was surprised to find that about half the stack had damaged discs. The outside perimeter (about .25 to .50 inches) of the damaged discs were were noticealby scratched. I just tried burning and reading a test disc (using Nero DVD Speed) and it failed with a read error. Hopefully, the rest of the stack won't be as bad.

Don't know who is to blame for the damage: manufacturing or shipping. Hopefully, this was just a bad "set", but I'll be buying my discs "locally" from now on. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars only got 2.4x write speed
Unfortunately, I didn't get 4x speed, and it's not such a great price for 2.4x dvds. I'm using a NEC 1100a DVD+RW drive. Of course, YMMV, but I'm returning them.
