5-0 out of 5 stars Indespensible component and a great value
I was skeptical about the Recoton SVS1000 S-Video Switch because of its low price relative to alternative switches, but I read some positive reviews about it ..and therefore thought I would try it out since I could always return it. The positive reviewers were correct. It is a great little box and does exactly -- no more no less -- what I bought it for.

For neophytes, this switch solves "S-video crowding problems" experienced when one's TV possesses insufficient single S-video input jacks to accommodate all of one's peripheral video input devices. For instance, I have a "rack" in which I place my home theater components such as Receiver/Amplifier, DVD, 2 VCR's, PS2, Dreamcast, etc. Unfortunately my TV has only one S-video input and my HT receiver/amplifier can only "s-switch" two devices (DVD & VCR). Hence, this little lightweight 4-hub switch was a godsend.

Currently, I use it to conveniently switch between my PS2 & Dreamcast with the other slots reserved for a Game Cube and X-box. This allows me to leave my gaming setup perpetually hooked up in a neat and attractive manner, thereby avoiding the wrath of the "cablenazi" -- aka my wife :-) Furthermore, it adds convenience to any s-video connection such as hooking up one's camcorder (it's much easier plugging a cable into this tiny lightweight hub than it is reaching behind a heavy TV to "unplug-plug-replug" s-video cables).

Lastly, remember if you order this you will need an additional S-video cable (use Monster cables..) to connect the switch's output port into your TV or receiver.

In summary, I highly recommend this product and was just amazed at how cheaply it solved my cable connection problems.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great little device for your home entertainment center
Most modern television sets come with only two Audio/Video (front and back), and one S-Video connectors. So what do you do when your DVD player, satellite receiver, Playstation, TiVo, etc want those for themselves?

You can either move your television and plug/unplug whatever you're going to use at the time (which can drive you nuts, not to mention wear out your connectors), or just invest in one of these little things.

I love how simple the Recoton is. You just plug your stuff into the back of it (up to 4 different devices), then run another set of cables from the "out" jacks to the back of your TV. That's it! I've seen other little boxes that do the same thing for hundreds of dollars, and need electricity to work. A total waste of money, in my opinion. I keep my Recoton on top of my television set, and switch between each device with a push of a button now. No more having to deal with wires everywhere or moving the TV.

The Recoton doesn't come with extra cables to run from the back of it to your TV set, so if you don't have some spare A/V and S-Video cables around, be sure to get a set. I personally use the brand from Monster Cable, which has wonderful picture quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars GReat Gadget I Needed But Didn't Know Existed
I needed to evaluate a new version of the MSN Web TV component that hitches up to a television/stereo system. All my S-Video and RCA inputs/outputs were already taken up by -- and daisy-chained through -- a digital-CD player, a stereo receiver, a satellite antenna box, a VCR, an older analog television, VCR, etc. I rummaged through electronic aisles at CompUSA and found this wonderful solution, inexpensive and sufficiently easy to hook up that no instructions are needed. I don't know what model I have -- it sounds exactly like what is described here but looks a little different, more modern. And it does the job. As digital and analog media increasingly fuse together into a home media center, older components are going to be lacking sufficient s-video and other video/stereo connections. The Recoton S-Video Switch saves the day! My only concern is that the four hook-ups may not be enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars look for the SVS1000A model
The SVS1000A model allows you to have some inputs with only composite video, but still output to the S-video port (I haven't tested this, but the box says it will work). The video quality won't be as good, but it is very convenient. The "A" model case looks a little different too. FYI, your local Best Buy store might carry these.

I've also read that this switch can be used for component video, as long as you're consistent with your color combinations (mapping your red, white, and yellow to red, green, and blue).

Great deal for the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars indispensable
I bought the Recoton SVS1000 after getting a second VCR, and a DVD player, for my TV. This despite the fact that my TV had three video inputs to begin with. These days a couple of inputs isn't enough. Especially when you count video game systems, and camcorders. Getting this saved me from having to swap cables all the time, which is what I was duing until I got it. It's simple to use, just plug and click. It's a great time saver. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Satisfied
I bought this antenna, along with the 15-1880 model from Radio Shack ($49.95), and the Terk HDTVi ($39.95). The Terk received only 3 channels (2 HD), and the Radio Shack received 12 channels (8 HD). The Jensen received 22 channels (10 in HD). It also helps that I found this antenna from HH Gregg for only $39.99. So far, I am very pleased. My HD reception is incredible.

1-0 out of 5 stars A huge waste of money
First of all the product itself is very expensive.... This is mainly because the antenna has a small remote control you adjust the reception with. This feature is sort of neat, but its not enough to make up for the poor performance of the item. Basically, the item will improve reception on a handful of channels. For me these channels were the ones closest to my house (I can get these channels with any antenna. I didn't need to spend over 100 Canadian dollars to get those channels). I also noticed that those channels I should be getting fuzzy reception on where actually made worse by this antenna. Then I moved to the USA and had the same problem at my apartment there. The last straw was noticing all 7 people in my apartment building getting better reception than me (one of the guys was using a early 1980's antenna held together by masking tape). So, I bought a much cheaper antenna that had good reviews and now I get great reception. This antenna system sits collecting dust in a box never to be used again. If you enjoy wasting money, buy this antenna. If you want improved reception, buy ANYTHING else. I'm sure what ever you buy will be better than this one and will cost you less at that.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works in rural Kansas, week remote
We live on a farm 30 miles from a city in KS and have a wide range of signal strengths, from a tower 4 miles away to one 50 miles away. We used the remote to adjust for maximum picture quality for each station and saved the adjustment. With this we can view all channels with a clear picture by using the remote recall the best position for each channel. We can now view several channels without the changing color bands we had before.
Only the week remote and the glare off of the display keeps me from a five star award.

2-0 out of 5 stars good theory, disappointing in practice
Here's a nifty new concept: create an antenna where the optimal settings for each station are recorded and preset and can be accessed by memory remote, add on an adjustable amplifier to tune in weak signals and tune down overly strong signals, all in one package. Great ideas. I live in Boston and have only a handful of viewable stations w/the antenna that came w/my TV. I thought this device would help me gain a few more.

I set up the antenna as per the manual and did a head to head test comparing this new device with my old antenna. I then viewed the reception on each channel by first viewing it with the Jensen antenna, then removing the coax cable and replacing it with the old atenna, taking care to not move either the Jensen or the TV.

Results: marginal improvement in picture quality in 2 stations, but LOSS of ability to view channel 10 with the Jensen. In addition, I was unable to pick up ANY additional stations.

My conclusion: the Jensen probably is of questionable benefit in urban settings. How it performs in rural settings remains for others to determine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything I expected...
This indoor antennae provides great indoor reception in a very convenient manner--best antennae I've ever come across, matter of fact. The remote that came with it has a weak signal, so I programmed it into my universal remote, and voila!, now I get to be an even lazier couch potatoe! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Up to Expectations
I just received my unit and had problems with the first five tapes I attempted to rewind. The lid opened before the tape was rewound and I would have to try again. This morning I successfully rewound two tapes. May have been operator error, but I don't think so. If I have any more problems, I will have to return it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great value, reliable, quiet, what more could you want?
For the price this little rewinder is amazingly quiet. I've had it for a year now and it still has never given me any problems. Certain tapes will cause a little noise, but I think it's the tape, not the rewinder. For the most part this one hums very nicely and only pops up when it's either finished or encounters tape problems. I can't imagine paying more for any other model when this one works so well!

5-0 out of 5 stars The only tape rewinder I'll ever use.
I've had 2 other tape rewinders in the past, and both of them sounded awful, clacking and whirring away like they were shredding my tapes. Also, the lids often popped up before the rewinding was finished.
This one, though, just has a pleasant, gentle little hum and does what it's supposed to.
It's nice to see that a company actually put some effort into this invaluable but mundane necessity of every VCR owner.
And the price is right too! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars required for 5.1 surround
Optical cables are used primarily to connect a DVD player or a game console supporting Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS surround sound to a reciever. Unlike Dolby Surround, which is used on VHS tapes, TV broadcasts, and digital cable and encodes left, right, center, and ONE rear center speaker into stereo sound, true 5.1 (three speakers at the front, two at the back, and low frequency effects channel for the subwoofer) encoding requires a wider frequency range which is not supported by RCA audio connections. Therefore, either an optical or digital coax cable must be used. A digital cable is just a light guide. Shielding or frequency response, important for video cables, are not much of an issue here. Therefore, an expensive optical cable will work just the same as a cheap one, unless the cable is defective. Keep in mind, however, that in order to get 5.1 surround to work, you may have not only to hook up the digital cable, but also (1) check the settings of your DVD player / game console to make sure that optical output is enabled, and 5.1 surround signal is not downmixed to standard stereo (consult your DVD player manual), and (2) that the optical input of the reciever is used when you choose the DVD player as input. Most DVD players also have a digital coaxial output, which works exactly the same for 5.1 surround as optical output. A digital coax cable usually costs less and may be a cost-saving option to consider. Home theater systems usually do not include optical/digital coax cables, so do not forget to order one together with your home theater system. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars No problems so far
Pretty good cassette adapter. For home stereos, make sure the "this side up" side is facing the tape window of the stereo. The adapter has 4 cord exit points so you can change it depending on how your car stereo works. The sound is alright. Just keep the tape head clean and you shouldn't have too much distortion. There's a very faint humming noise when nothing is being played but I believe it's my cars stereo [I tried it in another car and the sound is A LOT better with no hums/distortion]. I think this adapter is very good just for MP3 players [or any other non-standard player for the car stereo]. If you wanna play CDs, definitely buy a CD system for the car, it's well worth the investment. Overall, I'm happy with the adapter.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised
This adapter does exactly what you would expect it to do - take the output of your portable CD player and output it via the cassette deck in your car. Just play in and go. The sound isn't great - limited I guess by the low dynamics of the tape heads themselves. Build quality is fine - won't stand up to you walking on it - but should last fine in the car. Overall - a good buy. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Works well
This is one of the few headsets that reliably works with a number of different phone, and produces clear sound for both you and the person on the other end of the line. We've tried a number of others that don't work nearly as well. It's comfortable enough to wear for long conversation.

In our house they hold up for about a year or two of constant use before they fail (usually the cord wears out).

3-0 out of 5 stars Just bought my third one of these
This headset is comfortable and works well though it just doesn't last long. It's the only headset that works with my home phone so I keep buying them but they only last about six months.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product
This product is a nice headset that did fit nicely on my ear (lucky fit I guess) and was easy to work with. It is compact and feels quite natural for me. Not to mention it is designed to work on either ear so in the middle of a conversation you can just change ears.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of Money!!
DOnt buy and I had tough time in adjusting the ear piece as it falls out every time you hang it over the ear..

I gave this product 4 out of 5 stars because it does not give a snug fit on my ear, however it does stay in place while talking and working in the kitchen, etc. Those I have spoken with said they cannot tell I'm using a headset. 5-0 out of 5 stars A very good deal for the money!
I primarily use these at work at my desk with a CD clock radio and they are the easiest to take on and off the ears due to the swing-a-way ear clips. The sport behind-the-neck style was a hassle (long full hair--a girl thing!)and ear buds HURT--no matter what brand! They don't fit tight, they're light and comfortable, even with earrings. The coiled cord with on-cord volume control is a plus. I'm very satisfied with the sound quality and highly recommend this brand/style of bandless headphones. A+!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good quality to dollar value!
After reading some reviews I was skeptical but all I wanted them for was to sit at my desk in studio since strereos, or out loud playing of music, is against policy. I figured these would get the job done and wasn't expecting much. WOW, was I suprised! I love my music and I got much better sound quality than I expected for the money I spent. However, like all inexpensive product, the Jensen Wireless Headphones takes a while to tune into the right frequency and requires very fine tuning across a very wide band to get superior sound quality. If you want to save the money and get these, be prepared to have patience before enjoying at full potential. I give it 4 stars!

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor performance
The only use I have found for these headphones is to use them directly in front of the TV. Even then the sound is extremely poor. Any sharp noises like clapping or drums comes out as static. I have to fiddle with the tuning constantly to keep the static down, and that's without moving around. If you position yourself just right, have the tuning just right, they are almost usable. Don't even think about using these for music as that experince would be painful with these headphones. I also cannot use these in most parts of the house as they tend to pick up noise from Fluorescent lights and cordless telephones quite easily. Do not waste your money on these, as they are not worth it even if they were free.

2-0 out of 5 stars Constant Adjestment
TV sound is OK, but static requires almost constant tuning of earphones. I usually used the earphones within 10 feet of the transmitter, but still got a lot of static unless perfectly tuned.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Cheap Headhones
Ive tryed many cheap headphone's and they useally break from high volume too much base or getting stood on etc...
These are the best headphones i have come across, they can handle as much sound quality as you have to offer i am using them right now with 3D surround, Bass Boost, SRS WOW Effects, Graphic Equalizer and i can here every beat with no muffle no tinny noises and the bass dosent reck the earphones.
The only drawback to the headphones is that everyone in a 2 meter radius can also hear what you are listening too, suppose thats a good thing if you like to miff people off :) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great sound processor, unique design!
I purchased this item earlier this year may 2004. I would like to say. It's an excellent product for creating a more live soundstage to conventional home theater set-up to more refined high home theater systems. There are plenty of audiophiles such as myself who TWEAK their system irregardless of the components used from low-fi to higher end. Even without the additional sound processors I have bridged with this enhancer, my PIONEER HIGH RECEIVER WITH MAGNEPAN, SRSLABS, THEATER RESEARCH SPEAKERS just bloom into a much wider and lively concerto soundstage.
I have been using various sound processors for 25 years and as a former high end home theater installer, this is basically an advancement of the original OMNISONIC IMAGER made by omnisonix back in 1979, no longer in existence. Carver sonic holography replaced that, which I also had along with DBX 3BX III expanders w/impact restoration...That made any analog recording sound somewhat digital and "LIVE" presentation. The TDS-202 is the refined version of the CARVER HOLOGRAPHY. I have all these processors including the APHEX AUREL EXCITER/BIG BOTTOM which has great reviews and SRSLABS SPATIAL ENHANCER and the CARVER HAV-9 SONIC HOLOGRAPHY...the later version of C-9 made in 1981. I must say, this is a MUST for conventional home theater applications and 2 channel systems creating a 3-dimensional soundstage with wider dynamics. For high end systems, this will improve the 3-dimensional spectrum and expand the acoustical dispersion of your speakers.
If you interconnect all the processors I have included above, the soundstage is short of AMAZING! The recordings from a CD OR DVD sounds as if the band or people are in front or back of you.
The acoustic research TDS-202 enhancer can make any system as they claim SOUND MUCH LIVELIER and with clarity...I AGREE with my technical knowledge and experience to back that up. Remember, all these sound processors are all different and can compliment each other if one has technical knowledge and experience. They are all different and highly recommended. What is great about the TDS-202 is that it doesn't require any voltage or direct current to amplify it. Amazing product for the price and a recommended piece of equipment for the novice to professional/audiophile. Check also the DAXIOM STABILIZERS R-103 OR H-103, the latest technology in sound enhancement, coupled with the ACOUSTIC RESEARCH TDS-202 would create HARMONY in the audioworld.
Remember, Don't compare any of these sound processors/enhancers, they are all patentedly different and COMPLIMENT one another and NOT an ALTERNATIVE.
From a former high end home theater installer with 25 yrs of audio experience, returning to the US ARMY for patriotic reasons, a true audiophile who have been using various processors and accessories since 1979. This product is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product for mid-fi systems
I've had the original TDS-II box that does the same thing as this one for five or six years. Unlike other little black effect boxes I've tried in the past, this one I've never taken out of the signal path and whenever I play music cd's, I always have the box turned on. When you first hook it up and turn it on, the most apparent thing you notice is the sound becomes louder and slightly brighter. The effect may seem subtle initially but give it a few days and you will definitely prefer the sound being processed by this box because if you go back to ordinary stereo, you'll swear something is missing. Recently, I've used this to enhance cd-r's and playing them back on the car stereo is just awesome-sounding. This unit brings a certain presence to cd's on mid-fi systems & car stereos, especially. I'd recommend this unit over any cable upgrade in a second - I can't understand why the product has not become more popular. Grab one if they're still available. BTW, the description of this product here is quite misleading: this unit has no speaker - it's an effects box.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great upgrade to any CD based system!!!
This is one of the most effective upgrade products that lets you squeeze the last ounce from your system, specially if it is CD based.

If you have had the chance of listening to an outbaord DAC compared to the built-in electronics on the average CD or DVD player and found that that is the way to go, then prepare yourself to feel that experience again.

I don't want to stress the fact that you need an outboard DAC to realize the benefits of the TDS (it also works greatly with stand alone state of the art CD and DVD players); just get another set of analog interconnects to insert the TDS between your DAC, CD or DVD player to your pre-amp, turn on the unit and that's it: a system upgrade that will bring out a sound experience very close to the megabuck dimension!

If you prefer, you can also insert the TDS between the stereo output of your pre-amp and the input of your amp. I have it connected this way and not only outperforms the high quality sound I thought I had before on my digital front end but the whole system (these are DSS, VCR, LDP, CD, DVD, TD, etc.), achieving the very same results with any of the components.

A caution note should be observed: as this is a completely passive device (doesn't need to be plugged into the AC outlets), it is propense to suffer from EM/RFI distortion produced by the active units nearby, so you will have to put it far enough from such devices in order to have it working properly (without noise distortion). The TDS comes with a pair of 1 meter lenght AR stereo interconnects, which are very useful and show the average quality of AR stuff; nevertheless, you can do better with higher quality ones.

The effect is, in a word, outstanding! TDS recovers sound info that otherwise is subtle or not audible from the recordings played in your system as is, which can be defined as: spatial presence (or 3 dimentionality), sound decay, differentiation (clean timbre), realism and all without altering the original signal passed thru it. Human voice, piano, guitar and strings sound in a very relaxed and natural way that could be addictive; the generally congested sound of a pipe organ is transformed to a very pleasant and detailed experience, without being edgy or harsh at all.

In summary, the TDS is a worthy upgrade for your system but don't expect that the magic begin just the minute after you inserted it in the chain; TDS needs some burn-in period before a reliable veredict comes out, so give it a break of at least 1 week before judging or enjoying the benefits that will arise.

So enjoy sound, music and life...! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars SM-BB8S doesn't protect and customer service is worse
I purchased a SM-BB8S after a lighting strike took out my modem, thinking I was now protected. On Dec9th we had a power disruption and energy surplus which the SM-BB8s did not stop. This resulted in over $600.00 damage to my computer and monitor. What makes this worse is Recoton/Acoustic Research/Thomson Inc. have lagged in the customer service dept. I've made 7 phone calls to the 1-800 number and sent one fax as required in 6 weeks and have NO reply other then "we're sory sir, but the claim is now in the Thomson legal dept." (they will not give out any information as how to contact the legal dept either). No one has ever called me back, no one has ever gave me more information, and every dead line as to when I will recieve a call or answer to my warrenty claim has passed.

Find a company who backs their product up with a real warrenty, and who doesn't play games with thier customer service. This company doesn't deserve your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars cheap
it cheaper than the Monster Surge Protector i own. and it looks the same. don't know much about the spec. but as a consumer, cheaper is always a good thing? someone tell me if i am wrong?

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Design!
What can you say about an outlet strip?

How about specially designed outlets for those bulky power (transformer) plugs.

Or a rotating head on the 3-prong plug, so you can plug it in at any angle in case the adjoining outlet has one of those bulky transformer plugs plugged into it.

I didn't know it had these features when I ordered it, but now that I do, I won't buy anything else! ... Read more
