5-0 out of 5 stars Decent price, excellent sound quality
Sound quality is very good. Juke box software package could be better but over all excellent product and very good on batteries.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great
I got the Lyra this morning as an "impulse buy," and I love it! I had it working in only a few minutes, and I am only of average intelligence. I also bought a 256MB multimedia card, and I have hours of music -- cheap! Your average primate would have no problem getting this thing running.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is a horrible mp3 player
This product is horrible. The amount of storage for songs is good, but you have to be able to use the player first. After installing the player it would cut off before the download was finished never getting all the songs. Also the computer would never recoginze the player and I would have to reinstall the data every time I wanted to use the player. Overall, you will spend more time trying to get the player working and loading music than you will listening to the player. If I could give it 0 stars I would. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars not great
Ive had my cd player for like a year and it had a couple problem with it I dropped it once about 2 feet of the ground on the top broke off but it was easy to fix but it made it so the radio didnt work any more and it skips some if you bang it around it alittle But its still an okay cd player

1-0 out of 5 stars VERY CRAPPY WASTE OF MONEY
I was on the bus listening to music and the bus went over a speed-bump and it BROKE! Yes as we went over the bump the lid came off and it broke. Then we returned it for a new one and It's buttons didnt work and the headset broke in 4 days! Also the track skip is very bad, it skips every 10 seconds, litteraly. even if your sitting down and its setting on the table the slightest touch on it and it will skip to another song. THIS IS A RIP-OFF! IT IS A WASTE OF MONEY DO NOT BUY!

4-0 out of 5 stars great cd player
this is an amazing cd player. it has all you could want and more. great sound, great features, lightweight, has a great color, and you can listen to FM stations. my only complaint is that that FM antenae could be a tad bit stonger. otherwise, this player is excellent for its price. i'm actually buying a new one cuz i dropped my old one and although it still works perfectly, i decided it was time for a change. i was about to get something else, but i couldn't find another player that matched this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT CD PLAYER
I DON'T KNOW ABOUT ALL OF YOU GUYS BUT I THINKN THIS IS A GREADT CD PLAYER. THE COLOR IS TERIFIC AND IT'S SUPER LIGHT. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A BETTER CD PLAYER OR IF THIS IS GOING TO BE YOUR FIRST CD PLAYER YOU SHOULD GET THIS ONE. YOU WON'T REGRET IT . THANX ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Adaptable, rugged, serviceable player
Allow this review of a long-standing owner (2 years) to address some of the concerns by those reviews below. Although the Lyra 2 is not as readily available, it is still out there in the marketplace and for those considering it for purchase, get all the information you can, as you would with any MP3 player.

1.) The bitrate issue was entirely related to the MusicMatch software, which has been addressed (removed) through subsequent releases. You have the option of capping bitrates at 96, 128 or 160 kbps if you wish to conserve card space (if you listen to books on tape, OTR or the like it isn't as much of an issue) but you don't have to. You can download at 190, 320 or VBR if you want.

2.) The player still comes with a 32MB CompactFlash card. I also have a digital camera which uses CompactFlash, and part of my decision to choose the Lyra was because of the same memory platform. I can use the cards in either as I need them. Since then, I have purchased additional cards for the camera and now have lots of additional storage to use for the Lyra. A 2GB Compact Flash card holds a lot of music and obviates the need to continually burn CDs.

I've never had functionality problems with the unit, have been able to set up folders on the cards when downloading music to organize it and navigate through them without any issues. The player has taken a lot of abuse, traveling and commuting and being used in the car with the supplied cassette adapter. It's never failed me yet. I do prefer earbuds and never bothered with the headphones that came with the unit. That is just my preference.

It has provided me with great battery life but I do recommend rechargeable NiMH batteries instead of throwaway alkalines if you intend to use it a lot.

Compare it with others and the memory provided, flexibility to upgrade memory and price when you make your decision. At the time it was released this was the only portable on the market with an FM tuner; there is a far greater selection now.

Compact Flash memory still gives you better battery life then HDD players like an iPod or Jukebox. If the batteries die, you can pop in a couple of spare AA's and keep going. With a HDD player, you're out of luck unless you can plug it into the car or go home and recharge it for several hours.

1-0 out of 5 stars Piece Of Crap
I hate this thing. actually it only worked once. i got a few songs on it. now it is incapable of reading anything and i intend on replacing it in the near future. avoid at all costs. id recomend mp3 cd or high mp3 player such as the ones made by Rio and the apple ipod for you mac owners

3-0 out of 5 stars RCA Lyra 2 Review, By: Amal
It's a really good product, that is before the warenty expires. It is really versitile. I love the Compact Flash Media Card. All you do is hook up the external drive to your computer and transfer files to another computer. I have had a problem with it though. Sometimes when you turn it on and hit play or enter for the digital music or radio it wont work. Other times while listning to digital music it'll shuffle through random play, suffle, scan, etc.... and it'll also go to contrast w/o you pressing anything. Also for radio it'll only play your presets it wont let you listen to any other stations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Light, Small, Unlimited Flash Memory and Easy to Use
When shopping for players, I overlooked Lyra2 because it appears on most sites as having only 64 MB, but I recieved it as a gift and it is GREAT! Because the MP3s are stored on a Flash card, memory is effectively unlimited (I just saw a 514 MB card for sale). I carry it while running - it's small enough to tuck into my shorts and light enough that it doesn't bounce all over. The radio tuner is a neat feature that I'm glad to have, as is the "lock" that prevents buttons from getting pushed unintentionally. It'd be nice if it accepted better quality sound files, but it's not as though I listen to it through top-quality headphones while sitting in a quiet room. I recommend this player for people who will be out-and-about (you pobably won't notice anything lacking in the sound). Also, if you're getting your MP3s online, chances are they're 128 BPS anyway.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Brilliant!
I got this as a present for Christmas. I was looking into MP3 Players, and I didn't see this one, but I'm SOOOOO glad I got it.
It's nice and lightweight, fully portable, and great for running or jogging as it includes a remote control. It includes a 32 MB CompactFlash card, which sutes me, but you may need to upgrade to a better one, as this can only hold about 10 songs, Max. I never thought an MP3 player could have so many features! It has various modes such as Repeat 1, Repeat All, Shuffle, Program, ECT. By the way, I fully disagree with the only bad review on this product. 128 BPS is great sound quality, especially for a portable audio device. If you want something more, go ahead, buy an MP3 player, and end up having less space on the flashcard then the people who bought this product. Some other features include the digital FM tuner. Actually, the signal for that is not great, but in my opinion, I don't care. I don't pay 150 dollars to buy an FM Radio.
A 6 band equalizer, also including rock and Jazz DSP modes, and a beautiful backlit LCD display rounds out the features. Loading songs onto the card goes So fast! 1 minute, and you can download 32 minutes worth of songs onto it!
If I have to gripe, then I'll say I didn't like the headphones. I bought a pair of sony MDR-W08 Headphones. It makes the sound quality better too.
Trust me, if you buy this, you won't be disapointed ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Measuring just 17.75 by 11.75 by 3.5 inches, this sophisticated 5.6-inch-diagonal LCD monitor with CD player and radio is ideal for mounting under counters. The lightweight thin-screen panel produces full color and edge-to-edge images with wide viewing angles. A simple guide menu helps make adjustments to color, tint, brightness, contrast, and sharpness, and a scratch-resistant cover protects the display. The handy one-touch video input toggles back and forth between television images and any external video source, such as a DVD player, VCR, camcorder, or security camera. The back panel offers two sets of left-right audio and one composite-video input.

Two speakers mounted beneath the unit are angled to project sound toward a back wall, for sound reflection, or through to any open area behind the front panel. Either way, sound patterns are crossblended for better audibility. Built-in preset equalization assists the tonal range, and the built-in speakers and EQ are automatically bypassed when the preamplified stereo audio outputs are used to feed sound to an integrated amplifier (as when you're using optional amplified ceiling or wall speakers).

The latest electronic software has been incorporated into the CD player to permit playback of CD-R and MP3 formats. The system comes with a matching remote control, which has a magnetized rear plate so you can attach it your refrigerator door. Or store it in the magnetic docking slot on the side of the unit. The remote grants direct access to TV, radio, and disc selections, and includes volume, mute, and power on/off. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Get a warranty
I had this product for about 4 months before it stopped working. The power wouldn't cut on a lot of the times when I held it down. After about 6 months, it stopped working completely. The unit will not cut on at all.

As to the design, it would be nice if it was about an inch slimmer. They also probably could have made the entire unit a bit smaller. The LCD screen was decent, but the radio and CD playback was sub-par. The speakers are at the very rear of the unit and are facing downward. Since this is a unit designed to mount under a cabinet, that doesn't make much sense. There should have at least been a front mounted speaker for the TV.

2-0 out of 5 stars limited quality
I was SO excited to get this unit. It installed easily and delivered all that it promised - for a while. I have had the unit for exactly 14 months. 2 months ago the picture started going out. Meaning sometimes when I turned the tv on the picture was there, and other times I only got vertical lines. I did get great sound though.... Now, I don't get the picture at all anymore. My husband despises extended warranties, and did not encourage me to get one when I bought the unit, however I did not listen to him and bought one - so I'm covered for 4 years and intend on getting the unit fixed. I worried though because RCA doesn't sell these products any more. Does that mean they've had a lot of trouble with them?... My neighbor just buoght the Audiovox (sp?) unit. It doesn't have the same great features as my RCA, and we will see how long the picture lasts on their unit. If you buy, spend the extra [money] to get an extended warranty. No one expects to buy a tv and have it stop working after 12-14 months!!!...

3-0 out of 5 stars Be prepared for frustration
After using this unit for over six months, I now believe that it is good for one thing only: using the LCD TV. The overall design (usability and installation consideratinos) and features of the unit are very good. The installation kit that is included was particularly nice for my kitchen installation under the cabinets.
However, the sound quality of the unit is sub-par. Which is puzzling since the manufacturer was thoughtful enough to enable the CD player to decode CD-R's and MP3 files (nice feature). Why skimp on quality speakers? I get better sound on my cheapie Radio Shack (single speaker), analog tuning, radio.

The radio exhibits very poor reception in AM and FM modes.

The remote is one of the worst remotes I have ever used. Forget about using it at any angle besides directly in front of the unit. Or, if you like, reaching around the front with the remote to change channels or volume. Of course, by that time you could simply use the buttons on the face of the unit. Which I often do. Also, first remote broke within two days of installation. Was replaced by reseller at no charge.

The LCD TV. Overall picture quality is fair (but by far the best of the other choices out there). Screen seems to suffer from the same limited angle viewing problem as the remote control. Tilting feature is nice, but once you realize that you are constantly moving it just to tell what is on the screen. It can be a hassle. If you don't need to move the screen at all for viewing in different areas, you'll be fine.

As I said, if you want a passable compact TV for a kitchen (or where ever) area, don't need hi-fi sound and don't mind paying roughly twice the cost of a plain-old 12" tube TV. This unit will fit the bill nicely. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars In one word==Awesome==
I did not buy mine on amazon but paid 1/2 the price at radio shack though. It is awesome. I don't know about the dts stuff but my movies, directv, music and etc sound awesome. I am glad I purchased this system. I have had it nearly a year and I love it. I will never get rid of it unless I want more wattage but at the present time 200 watts of power is excellent!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid for the price!!
I Love my RCA Home Theater System. The surround sound is awesome with my TV. DVD's and CD's play so crisp, it's just like being there. One draw back is, that this system does not play DTS. If it did, this would have been the top Home Theater System for the price,(NOT all DVD's are formatted in DTS yet), so for the price Buy It!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful sound, good price

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice, but just say "No"
Since I do a considerable amount of international traveling, I was looking for a portable DVD player to help pass the time on planes and in airports. The RCA DRC600N DVD player looked promising when we purchased it. It was lightweight and had most of the features we were looking for in a portable DVD player, all at a reasonable price. The battery life was exceptional, nearly 4 hours. The picture quality was very good (I fell in love with the 7" screen) and the sound quality (with headphones) was better than expected.

But then, it started to hang-up on the layer changes. At first we thought it was a bad disk, low on power, or a fluke, but after 4 movies of doing the same thing, we began to get frustrated. There is nothing worse than being in the middle of a movie, than having it freeze. Waiting doesn't cure it, we would have to quit the movie, restart the unit, and fast-forward to where we left off. Then it would freeze again. Needless to say, we returned the unit for another one.

The store we bought it from said that they had just received a return on the same unit from another customer with the same problem. We decided to try again, took the new unit home, and found that the paint on the disk door was flaking. We didn't even bother, we took the unit back and will look for something else.

After reading other reviews on this same product, it looks like RCA should pay attention and see what they can do to improve on the freezing problem and initial quality of this unit. They got the features right, now if it would only play disks without stopping in the middle...

1-0 out of 5 stars Almost a house fire
I've never written anything on Amazon before, but I had to tonight. This DVD player exploded on us to night. We're not sure what happened but it looks like the battery exploded. The entire living room filled with smoke and a small fire started. Our living room arm chair was blackened and smouldering and our oriental rug was burnt, covered with battery acid and burnt straight through to the flooring below. We were about to use the fire extinguishers when I grabbed a large towel and threw the DVD player battery outside on the concrete patio. It continuted to smoulder, smoke and glow. The air in the house was toxic. This was an extremely dangerous situation, which could have caused even more damage and was potentially life threatening. In short, do not buy this DVD player. I plan on contacting RCA tomorrow morning and informing them about this serious situation.

5-0 out of 5 stars great if you get a waranty
This player is amazing, but it seems to have about a 50% success rate. my first one the previous model had everything wrong with it, but this model is amazing. It has a better picutre quality than those made by other companies around the same time, and has a great batery. I fly monthly and use it as my home player, so it is used almost daily, and bumped around continously during travel, and I haven't had a single problem. I have had it almost a year now, and love it.

3-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for...
Major factor in purchasing this unit was the price. At a Target clearance last Jan, this baby was a low ~$210 (if I remember correctly). Works well for the price with a lot of features: the s-video out, audio/video in/out, Dolby 5.1, remote, SVCD/VCD/mp3/picture file playback, etc. Had major problems reading DVD's with many chapters in it (ex: HBO season DVD's) but rarely skipped for regular DVD's and SVCD's. Picture quality was decent, audio was fine. Wish you could fast forward/rewind w/o the remote control, though...Battery also takes very long to charge (~6hours).

In a nutshell, it is a decent product, but like another reviewer said: GET AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. My unit died in 9 months, with average use (watch ~3-5 movies a week). RCA warranty offers 100% protection for first 90 days, then a limited warranty for the 9 months after that. I had to pay $50 flat fee for a refurb replacement that will only have another 90 day warranty, period. If the refurb breaks after that, I'm down a portable DVD player. I don't know if this is a bad warranty compared to all portable DVD players, but this indeed has left me with a sour aftertaste. My advice: these portable DVD players will break on you eventually, why not get a cheapo from Bestbuy and invest in an extended warranty? Just my 50 cents.
