Great sound for a small radio!!!!
Fantastic sound, fantastic price, fantastic radio!!! The instructions for repeat play on the CD could be a little bit more explicit, but the product itself is a wonderful value!!

There are better choices
At first glance, this boombox looks very appealing. But a closer look reveals that this is not a decent choice. The small size doesn't compensate for lousy radio reception, mediocre sound quality, and poorly laid out controls. There is no way to adjust the sound (not even a bass boosting switch), plus the cassette deck is equivalent to what you'd find in a walkman, with a small motor and sluggish rewind and fast forward. It's not the greatest at playing tapes no less. What's more is that this product isn't even made by Aiwa- I saw the same thing at a major department store with a low quality brand name on it instead! The only major difference was that the cabinet was a different color (probably to distinguish it from the Aiwa). All the Aiwa products I've seen offer CDRW playback- this one does not, further proof that Aiwa doesn't manufacture this model. Overall, I would not recommend this boombox. There are much better values. The basic model from Philips offers the same options, plus a bass boost switch and excellent radio reception. If you're looking for a good basic boombox, go with the Philips- it's a much better product at almost the same price.

No "Boom" in this Box
I purchased this alleged "boombox" to use in my woodworking shop, so I could listen to my large CD collection while I worked. For the relatively low price, I didn't expect much in the way of "extras." However, not only doesn't this box have "extras," it doesn't even have a serious "essential," as far as I'm concerned. The sound is just pathetic. The speakers are tiny, tinny and not very pleasing at all. The volume control barely raises the level to what could be called "loud," and there is absolutely no tone control of any kind. No bass, no treble, not even a "bass boost" option. I listen to a lot of bagpipe band music, and the bass drums aren't even audible. My bluegrass is tinny, and my classic rock sounds like it's coming through a transistor radio. While the unit does *function,* calling it a "boombox" is being kind in the extreme. Do yourself a favor and check out the specials .... before you blow ... bucks on this squeaker-toy.

Great Boombox
Features: You can play the AM/FM radio, CD, or tape from a button on the side, along with buttons and knobs for tuner and volume. You can also record a tape from a CD with its synchro dubbing feature. And it includes the option of using 8, D batteries, or you can you the AC cord.

Pros: This thing has amazing sound for its size. It is so small that it can fit on a small table or nightstand, but it still has absolutely wonerful sound.

Cons: Requires 8, D batteries. Or you can use the short AC cord.

This is great because it gives great sound, from a small box, at an affordable price. And the fact that its power options are somewhat limiting don't matter because theres always an outlet nearby! I really recommend this product.

Terrific Sound
I just opened up the box to this new Aiwa CD Player and its wonderul! The boombox is small enough to fit on a nightstand, but plays beautiful music with easy setup! All I had to to was unwind the cord, plug it in and away it went. I used the plug because it requires 8 (yes thats right, 8!) D batteries which isn't worth it. But that doesn't affect me anyway, because there's always an outlet nearby! The is wonderful and extremely high quallity. I really recommend buying this product. ... Read more

Small Box But Great Sound
In my experience AIWA makes boomboxes, cd players and walkmen with excellent sound quality. I have an AIWA "Q Sound" boombox I purchased almost four years ago. Good features, poor design !
This product although has good feature set, but is so badly put together that i have stopped using it. I bought this for the meetings and to record my thoughts for those times when its easier to speak than write (like 3 a.m. in the morning after a 16 hr. work day) - i must say its a big put off,for the keys are so multi-functional you don't even know if you are recording on the blank side anymore. A Good Buy
I wanted to get a new CD player so I searched for one using Amazon.com It took time but I decided on the Aiwa player. I got it for Christmas. After getting it out, I put in a CD and was moving the player around and it skipped. I thought there was something wrong. I then twisted the headphone jack and got a fuzzy sound. I thought, great, a CD player I wanted but something was wrong with it! Later, after using it more, it didn't do that anymore because I would try and see if I got the fuzzy sound. I looked in the direction about the CD player and it said to wait about 20 seconds for the EASS to start working more. Now, my CD player doesn't do it at all! The sound is good and even though you have to press the button to get more bass like just about all CD players, it sounds a lot better and isn't fuzzy. It doesn't make it sound bad like some other players would do. The headphones are a different design but are good and haven't really made my ears hurt. They might be the best headphones I have had. I didn't buy it because I was a jogger or a walker, I got it because it was the best one I found. So, if you are thinking about getting this CD player, don't think just because it says Cross Trainer that you shouldn't get it.

water, heat, sand no problem
This cd walkman is the best a soldier can buy and have it last in the most extreme weather conditions. I am so impresed I would recommend to anyone looking for a die-hard cd player. As everyone has mentioned, the headphone jack to the headphones is all messed up. It shorts out, but can be corrected by buying a better set. I love the sturdy and rugged feel of the system, it's a little heavier and a lot more durable than most out on the market. So, if you are looking for a reliable system, look no further, this has been soldier tried and tested. Hooah!!! Support your troops and President Bush, and let freedom ring.

Isnt 100% non skip but close enough
I ordered this product for the second time being that I gave my first to a relative after using it for over a year. This is a great sports walkman because it in my opinion is one of the better brands as far as not skipping(Sony sportman is the overall best)compared to others ive used(5 different kinds in past 10 years). It is not perfect thought because it does have a tendency to skip once in great while but you gotta be really jumping up and down or running rather rapidly for it to do that. Overall any activity you do while using this walkman is not really interfered with. The sound quality is great and the hand strap is a great size for anyone to adjust to. I would recommend it over all the others even though it costs a bit more its a small price to pay for consistency, great sound, and overall enjoyment with less aggrevation from the constant skipping from other CD walkmans that claim to be Anti-skip.

The best unit I have tried for the money.....
Out of three portable CD players I have had in the last year, this is the best. The only downsides are that it has no tuner (but you can get it for about twenty more) and the batterhy life isn't quite as long as I would of liked.

I haven't noticed the touchy ear jack problem that others have complained about. The jog-memory works fine while mountain biking and working out so no problem there. The sound is top nothch and I have never had the player open up on me once like other people do.

Bottom Line: An ugly but effective portable CD player that is worth it for the price.

Good if you know how to use it
I read other users' reviews and expected a dud. Well, it is a dud if you think you can leave it on the treadmill and race away. The player is not made to withstand the jarring of a treadmill. If you hold it in your hand and run with it, it's fine. I've had no problems with it at all. It is a little unrealistic to expect a manufacturer to make something for $60 that will withstand that kind of bouncing around. Holding it is no problem although it would be nice to have a strap like the Sony one. That's why I give it 4 stars instead of 5, no strap and the headphones are a little too weird for me. No problems with the sound, they're just not the Sony earbuds that I'm used to. ... Read more

Beware of labor warranty

Walk About
For Aiwa, they've made some decent electronics over the past couple of years. Still, it is just a shame that I really don't see their devices anymore, in favor of companies like Sony and Panasonic. With Aiwa's HS-TX516, it has a good display of playback within the cassette, and a good quality of use when you're outside. Still, since they've been introduced, Aiwa's neckband headphones are just truly uncomfortable around the ears. I suggest if you get this, try getting another set of headphones. Sadly, I recommend the HS-TX716 over this, because it has a TV Tuner and a Weather Band added on to the features this walkman has. If you can't find this one, you might as well try and get a Sony Walkman instead. ... Read more

Great Sound, Great Value, Uncomfortable Headphones
I remember when I bought my first Walkman. It cost about 80 bucks and didn't even have a radio or auto-reverse. This portable stereo has it all and at a very reasonable price. It sounds good too and the microprocessor equalizer control helps you fine-tune the unit for your personal sound preference. The only complaint I have is that the headphones are not very comfortable. I would recommend buying a more comfortable pair of headphones to go with this player.

clear sound, light weight
I bought this to listen to tapes on the subway. I was suprised at the high quality of sound from the radio and tape playback. There is minimal background noise. It is also very light weight, making it easy to carry around. The two things I didn't like are the earphones which are large and clumsy, it works better with earplugs, and the volume switch which is low set and sometimes difficult to turn to adjust the volume. Overall I am very satisfied with this product.

Super Sound
This unit can't be beat..great sound & great price. I use it for listening to music, talk radio and books-on-tape and it beats the $60.00 Sony I had on all counts.

Terrific sound!
The minute I put this baby on and hit play I was highly impressed at the lovely sound quality. The energy level light for the batteries is a wonderful feature as well as the choice of forward or reverse play without removing the cassette and turning it over. How nice!

what a piece of crap.
i bought this thing a year ago and now all of a sudden the cd player doesn't work. the unit sat in one place and was not moved for an entire year-not very durable for a PORTABLE boombox. it sounded good while it worked, but for 50 bucks its a little expensive to be disposable.
