Amazon.com Product Description

Philips' streamlined, affordable 27PT8302 offers a 27-inch RealFlat, high-definition picture tube for vivid images from a progressive-scan DVD player (at 480p resolution) or an outboard digital set-top box (accepting with both 480p and 1080i inputs). The set's standard, 4:3 aspect ratio matches that of most TV broadcasts, and letterboxing options are available for viewing widescreen programs in their original dimensions.

The set offers numerous image enhancements. Crystal Clear III encompasses velocity-scan modulation anda 2D Y/C digital comb filter, which improves quality of incoming interlaced video signals by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

Velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.

EyeFidelity gives you the choice between different line doubling and scanning techniques--progressive or interlaced--so you can reduce motion artifacts like jagged edges and stair stepping, viewing material in progressive scan (480p) or a line doubled (1050i) picture. Other picture technologies include Digital Color Transient Improvement (CTI), Digital Luminance Transient Improver (LTI), and Digital Histogram.

The set offers stereo reception with 10 watts power per stereo speaker, and a choice of onboard Dolby Virtual Surround or Incredible Surround processing simulates surround sound from any 2 speakers.

Two sets of high-definition component-video inputs (1080i/480p) accommodate a set-top box/HD satellite receiver and a progressive-scan DVD player, while side and rear composite- and S-video inputs accommodate other hardware. Rear-panel audio/video outputs make it a cinch to hook the set up with your home theater surround receiver for a truly enveloping AV experience. A 0.125-inch headphone jack lets you listen in private. The set includes an NTSC tuner (with 100 station presets) for standard TV reception and comes with a Sofa-Lite remote control.

Amazon Product Description

Make your living room or office the center of your universe with Philips' 42-inch, perfectly flat 42PF9936 plasma television. The set's widescreen (16:9 aspect ratio) dimension closely matches those of your favorite movies. Hook the 42PF9936 up to a progressive-scan DVD player and you'll enjoy vivid, detailed images on the set's native 852 x 480-pixel screen. You can connect it with your PC, too, using the set's RGB input and supplied connection cable. An integrated TV tuner offers cable or broadcast reception of all your favorite programs.

Philips' Dynamic Contrast technology optimizes the contrast of the picture by stretching the white, gray, and black levels.

With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile, which also makes it perfect for desk or wall mounting. Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems.

The 42PF9936 includes Digital Crystal Clear technology, a suite of picture innovations including Dynamic Contrast, a comb filter, and advanced, 10-bit processing. A feature called Active Control Plus continually adjusts picture settings at over 60 times per second for all inputs, correcting both sharpness and noise reduction, even adjusting for changes in ambient viewing light.

Audio/video inputs include a direct-digital DVI input and a VGA computer input. Onboard Dolby Virtual Surround simulates enveloping surround sound from any 2 speakers.

Amazon.com Product Description

The perfect theater for homes with standard or high-definition televisions, Philips' style-conscious LX3750W consists of a Dolby Digital/DTS-decoding surround sound receiver with an integrated single-disc progressive-scan DVD/CD player, five satellite speakers, and a powered subwoofer. The DVD drive reads DVD, DVD+RW, and VCD, as well as CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3 CDs, and JPEG/Kodak Picture CDs.

If you're using (or plan to use) a high-definition or HD-ready TV, you'll appreciate the system's progressive scanning, which is referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image. This feature creates a picture with twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD image, giving you sharper, higher resolution images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

The system's 50-watts-per-channel receiver and 50-watt subwoofer deliver a total of 300 watts of home theater power, and the five speakers are acoustically designed to match the receiver's tonal characteristics. The front left, right, and center speakers are magnetically shielded to prevent interference with your TV's image. The tuner offers 40 FM/AM presets.

The receiver features two analog-audio inputs and one analog-audio output, along with two digital-audio inputs (one each coaxial and optical). Three video outputs--composite-, component-, and S-video--accommodate most TVs and monitors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent sound for such a compact design
This system is so easy to use with so less connections and easy installation. The sound is really good for a living room for an apartment though can be less for a big room in a big house. The wireless speaker system is amazing. I never felt any difficulty with the rear speakers with wireless connection, it never interfered with my 900MHz cordless phone or any other cordless/wireless device in my apartment. Overall, a product worth buying for your apartment.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the price
Pros: - Slim, cool looking design. - Fairly easy to set up. - Fairly easy to use (see DVD Fast-Forward and Rewind below.) - RF rear speakers reduce wires and work great! Cons: - CD player has to load the CD before you push Play. You can sit their waiting for 7 seconds before the CD is Loaded. It doesn't recognize when you push Play while loading. - DVD sound is kind of weird. The sounds are very loud, then you can't hear what the actors are saying. This could be a problem with other HTS's, I don't know, but it should have an adjustment for this (it doesn't). - DVD Fast-Forward and Rewind is weak and difficult to use. Ex. The Fast-Forward button is the same button as the Chapter Forward button. For Fast-Forward, you just hold it down. Well, it you forget this (as I have) you are suddnely in the next Chapter. Then the problem is getting back, as I said you have to hold down the Chapter Reverse or Chapter Fast-Forward button down for a second before it kicks in. then you have to do it again to get to the next speed (x2, x4, x8). x8 is the maximum search speed. Which is 3 times too slow. - No speaker stands. For this price, this is unacceptable. I would not recommend this system. It's way too expensive for what you get.

5-0 out of 5 stars Clean look, clear sound
Simple to set up, and the semi-wireless rear speakers are a great idea. There are a LOT of features packed into this set, which are added value. It sounds just as good playing CDs as DVDs (and even MP3s!). And we don't have wires straggling across the living room.
I do think that treble/bass controls would be really nice to have, and the slick design of the player puts some controls on TOP of the player, which means they are hard to use if this is placed above eye level. You also will NOT want to put anything on top of this (due to the controls, and the heat generated by the player, which has vents on the top).

4-0 out of 5 stars Good System For Price
I have had this sysyem for about 2 months now and I am totally satisfied. Very easy to set up right out of the box. All wire ends are color coded as well as speaker inputs so its impossible to screw up. My family room is 14 x 18 and the 300 watts fills it with sound. New DVD's sound especially good. I searched the web for a system with wireless speakers and this was the best system I found. I did not want to run wires around the room for the rear speakers.
The rear speakers do have to be wired together and into the wireless receiving unit. The speakers are narrow and stylish and put out surprising sound for the size. The woofer also puts out good bass for the size. A few small drawbacks - there are no bass or treble controls although the ambient settings do compensate quite well for this. Also my 900 mghz cordless phone will send a crackle through the speakers even when the system is off. This system is on a 866 mghz frequency. My 2.4 ghz cordless is no problem. The progressive DVD player is excellent. I have had a Panasonic and a Cyberhome before this and both had occasional problems with rental DVD's stalling and skipping. This has no such problem. It reads my DVD X Copy discs with no problem and the MP3 player does an excellent job reading CDRW's also. MP3's sound great. If you do not want to run wires all over the place and 300 watts is all you need this is an excellent system for the price. Wattage is an overrated overhyped function of most home theatre sytems anyway. More power does not necessarily mean better sound.

5-0 out of 5 stars A little powerhouse
I was a more than a little leary of ordering this. I've not had good luck with Philips electronics in the past, but this little wonder put those fears to rest.

First of all, it looks great. I love the styling, although I'm still not real fond of the blonde speaker cabinets, but it's growing on me.

The unit sounds like a washing machine when you first turn it on, I guess it's checking each of the CD drives. The main reason I bought this was the MP3 capabilities, and I believe Philips has optimized it for that purpose. Instead of a single platter type changer, it has FIVE separate cd trays. You can play all 5 CDs straight through, but shuffle and repeat modes only apply to the current disk. So, if you load this thing with 5 CDs, it won't shuffle between all 5 disks, only the current one, then it switches to the next CD. This is fine if you want to shuffle through a homemade MP3 CD each with hundreds of songs, but not so good for plain old audio CDs.

The best feature of the unit is the sound, it is enormous for such a little thang. I have a big Sony system in my with den with huge JBL speakers, and this little dynamo sounds darn near as good.

I've compared standard audio CDs versus my homemade MP3 CDs, and I really can't tell the difference in sound quality. It has 4 equalizer and 4 reverb settings, they all sound great to me. The MAX SOUND is basically a loudness button on steroids, boosting both the highs and lows and adding some reverb. Again, I hate to keep repeating this, but it sounds great for such a little unit.

It has a clock display and a timer feature. The FM tuner is okay, it comes with one of those dopey wire antennas, I wish it had a telescoping type instead.

Overall I am very happy with this unit and would recommend it to my friends.

4-0 out of 5 stars Searching for this kind of Mini Stereo...
I definitely like the sound quality of this mini stereo. After buying and returning several mp3 stereos, i decided upon this one, and was surprised that it was able to rewind/fast forward through mp3 files (something critical that most mini stereo manufacturers touting mp3 capability have yet to add). Although the sound isn't audible while rewinding on mp3s,(minor drawback, but the positives outweigh the negatives).

I finally invested in a stereo in which, i feel the manufacturers made mp3s their main focus. Other manufacturers treat mp3 capability as an after thought. With a large collection of mp3 cds, i enjoy being able to listen to them without changing cds all the time. (have yet to hook it up to pc via usb,though)--My main concern was mp3 cds.

The sound quality is excellent. It produces a clean, balanced sound, not too bassy(more natural). DVD movies sound very good through the auxilary inputs. Only issue, is the stereo has a fan built in it, in order to keep from overheating (i guess), which isn't noticeable unless you have very quiet songs or volume turned down low. (the fan is built at the back of the unit and turns on when the unit is on(similar to a computer drive).

5-0 out of 5 stars Great sound, Fits in a bookshelf, Plays music from computer
This is very good sounding for a small room, I have it in the basement, gets the whole family dancing. It plays CDs (CD-R and CD-RW) with MP3s on them as well as normal audio CDs. And hooked up to the computer with USB cable I can listen to the music before burning CDs, also internet radio. ... Read more

The 26PW8402's 26-inch RealFlat, high-definition widescreen tube affords scintillating home cinema viewing when used with a progressive-scan DVD player or a DTV set-top box. Picture enhancements like line doubling with Eye Fidelity (480p/1050i) bring interlaced sources like VCRs and non-progressive-scanning DVD players into the digital realm, and a 2D Y/C comb filter further improves the quality of incoming interlaced video signals.

The set's RealFlat tube provides reflection- and distortion-free pictures for maximum viewing comfort, while the DAF (Dynamic Astigmatic Focus) CRT gun ensures reliably excellent quality. Crystal Clear III is a unique set of innovations including scan velocity modulation and Dynamic Contrast, together producing natural colors and a high level of detail.

Amazon.com Review

If you've been hankering to integrate your digital media files with your enterta inment system, the Philips SL400i Streamium WiFi-enabled audio-video streaming d evice offers a slick path toward exactly that end. Without bogging down your PC' s resources, the SL400i gives you access to your complete library of digital pho tos, MP3 music, and computer- and Internet-based movies and video content--all w irelessly, provided your router or the supplied wireless adapter reaches your de sired playback spot.

The SL400i's easy-to-navigate menus help keep all your media accessible.
Use it with PC, use it with Macintosh (Windows 98, 98SE, 20 00, ME, XP, and Mac OS X).

The supplied wireless USB transmitter is a blessing for anyone who doesn't have an existing wireless home network. If you plan to use the device with your exist ing network, make sure your hardware (router, wireless cardbus adapter, etc.) isWiFi-compliant (802.11g/b). While the product claims 802.11b compatibility, we strongly recommend using 802.11g or, with 802.11b, devices made in late 2003 and2004; we experienced only intermittent success with a 2002 802.11b router. If a ll else fails, you can always connect a special crossover Ethernet (Cat5) cable, not supplied, between your computer and the SL400i.

With broadband Internet access and a compatible wireless home network already inplace, setup should be delightfully simple: plug in the SL400i, hook up the aud io and video outputs with your TV or surround receiver, and turn it on. In our s ystem, the SL400i found our network automatically and allowed us to get right toInternet registration (at my.philips.com) so we could listen to any number of W eb radio stations while installing the Philips Media Manager software (or PMM) o n our computer. You'll need to disable your Microsoft and/or other computer-base d firewalls, relying instead on the firewall built into your wireless router. (O therwise, open ports 49152 to 65535 for the SL400i.)

See how you can use the supplied wireless USB transmitter to turn your home into a wireless network.
The value of the Internet audio and video should not be underestimated. You can use the many theme-based radio stations from Live365.com, Andante, MP3.com, Play house Radio, or Yahoo's LaunchCast (among others) to sonically coordinate a dinn er or dance party, and there's plenty there to entertain the kids, too. Yahoo an d iFilm.com provide high-quality music videos and film trailers (up to 700 kbps) . For radio, sound quality proved remarkably listenable, with most but not all s tations broadcasting in stereo sound free of the swishy artifacts that plague mu ch online audio. Online services also include Internet gaming.

With respect to streaming your media files, the SL400i sees only the files or fo lders you've selected for it. Within the PMM--and right from your living room--y ou can sort music by artist, genre, album, or song, or select slideshow mode forviewing your JPEG digital photos. Full-screen mode expands JPEG images and vide o streams to literally fill your screen, a nice change from JPEG-friendly DVD pl ayers that render a digital photo as a tiny box with a huge black frame.

For music listening, you don't even need your TV on--the SL400i's handy LCD letsyou select audio files or Internet radio stations in peace, a feature we'd liketo see worked into DVD players' menu systems.

If you choose to keep your TV on while listening to music, the SL400i offers 2 d ifferent content-modulated visual patterns to choose from, a nice touch and a ni ce alternative to a blank screen. Philips is actively updating its services and its software, and the SL400i will periodically update its firmware--a cool featu re designed to keep the unit technologically shipshape, running ever more smooth ly and accommodating ever more formats. --Michael Mikesell

Pros:

  • Straightforward setup and installation when used with compatible hardware
  • High-quality streaming audio and video
  • Full-screen and slideshow options for JPEG image viewing

Amazon.com Product Description

The Philips 30DV693R TV/DVD combination unit is specially formatted to match as closely as possible the original aspect ratio of your favorite movies. The 30-inch widescreen set also plays DVDs, CDs, and MP3 CDs, letting you enjoy the best movies and music right from one device. Its Real Flat picture tube increases viable viewing angles and reduces reflected ambient light to create a brighter and crisper image, while its digital comb filter removes blurred edges between colors and reduces dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. An Invar mask, such as the one employed in this set, uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing in a brighter, clearer picture.

A hallmark of the set, Philips' QuadraSurf remote control, lets you customize your channel surfing and TV viewing by family member or program theme. Simply use each of the 4 colored surf buttons to view up to 10 of your favorite programs by category--that's 40 total movie, sports, news, music, children's, or other programs--or by family member.

A component-video input grants optimum connection with a compatible DVD player, while standard composite-video, S-video, and RF coaxial inputs accommodate all DVD players. You can choose between multiple rear AV inputs and a set of side AV inputs for extra convenience when hooking up a camcorder or a gaming console. A digital-audio output facilitates hookup with an audio/video surround receiver and multichannel speaker system.

Other 30DV693R features include a 240-minute sleep timer, AutoPicture (which optimizes brightness, contrast, color, tint, and sharpness), AutoLock (which uses V-Chip technology for parental control), and AutoSound (which lets you select settings for voice, music, movies, or custom). Incredible Surround simulates surround sound from the set's 2 speakers, while a side-panel headphone jack affords private listening (headphones not included).

Amazon.com Product Description

Philips' widescreen, 15:9 aspect-ratio 23PF8946A TFT LCD television brings you 23 diagonal inches of PC convenience and home-theater style. Perfect for use just about anywhere--living rooms, dens, offices, bedrooms, kitchens, dorms, you name it--the TV offers high brightness (450 cd/m2) and high contrast (500:1), as well as an integrated TV tuner for cable or broadcast reception of all your favorite programs.

This is an EDTV display, which means it's a step closer to high-definition or HDTV than standard TVs. When used with a progressive-scan DVD player (or 480p-output DTV set-top box) you'll get seamless, razor-sharp images from your favorite movies and concert videos.

LCD technology allows screens to be thinner and televisions to be lighter and more energy-efficient than ever before. The result is television that not only fits on a wall, but fits in places conventional televisions cannot. The 23PF8946A's comes outfitted with Digital Crystal Clear III technology, a suite of picture innovations including Dynamic Contrast, green/blue stretch, and a 3-line digital comb filter. The comb filter removes blurred edges between colors and reduces dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

A feature called Active Control continually adjusts picture settings at over 60 times per second for all inputs, correcting both sharpness and noise reduction. Auto Picture lets you change--at the touch of a button--the picture settings (color, tint, contrast, etc.) for various types of programming, including sports, movies, multimedia (games), or weak signals.

Auto Sound allows you to select from 3 factory-set controls and a personal control that you set according to your preferences. Use the factory-set controls (voice, music, and theatre) to enhance appropriate programs. Virtual Dolby surround simulates enveloping surround sound from any 2 speakers.

Inputs include 1 component-video, 1 S-video, and 2 composite-video connections, as well as a VGA computer input, which accepts signals up to WXGA (1,280 x 768, from 60 to 75 Hz). Side-panel AV inputs accommodate a camcorder, gaming device, or VCR hookup, and a headphone output (minijack .125-inch) lets you listen in private.

The MX6000i h as Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Pro Logic II processing, which generates 5.1-ch annel audio from any 2-channel source. The selectable NTSC/PAL DVD transport plays DVD+R/RWs, DVD-R/-RWs, VCDs, SVCDs, MPEG-4 videos, DivX files (3.11/4.x/5.x), CDs, CD-R/RWs, MP3 CDs, JPEG image CDs, and Kodak Picture CDs. An onscreen display simplifies setup and operation.

The MX6000i is equipped to access online services directly or to stream digital media like music, pictures, and movies from the hard disk of a networked PC (using the supplied PC Link software). Wireless connectivity based on the 802.11b and .11g standards gives you the choice of connecting the MX6000i to cable or DSL broadband services through either a wireless network router or a wired Ethernet connection. Another feature of Philips' Streamium technology is upgradeability. You can upgrade the MX6000i via the Internet, adding new services and features like online games and access to Web-based photo albums, futureproofing the system against obsolescence and changing standards.

The MX6000i's easy-to-navigate menus help keep all your media accessible.
If your digital music files contain metadata, e.g., ID3 tag information (title, artist, and album), those details are show on a five-line display as well as on screen. You can navigate PC multimedia content on your TV and stereo with the remote control.

Six integrated 75-watt audio amplifiers drive the stereo speakers, the matching rear speakers, a center speaker, and two subwoofers built into the rear speaker columns. The system's four two-way (three-driver) satellite speakers acoustically match the tonal characteristics of the center speaker. Front left, right, and center speakers are magnetically shielded to prevent any interference with your television image.

The system's Class D digital amplifier takes an analog signal, converts it into a digital signal, and then amplifies it, producing strong, clear sound at high efficiency and with low distortion. Philips's ClearVoice technology ensures accurate dialogue separation in the action scenes of a movie, and you can adjust the speaker settings using the remote to achieve optimum sound immersion and listening enjoyment. The system's tuner offers AM/FM digital tuning with 40 presets (including an autostore facility and RDS display for station name and program type). Eco-power standby mode reduces power consumption to less than one watt.

Amazon.com Review

Though it may look like a computer peripheral, Philips's gleaming silver Streamium SL300i multimedia receiver is a perfect fit for your living room or bedroom. Amazingly compact, the hardcover-book-sized device is WiFi-enabled to stream audio, video, and Internet-based entertainment from your PC to your television, stereo, home theater, or other platform at a remove from your computer. Wireless transmission requires integration with a home network, but we found setup a snap. If you don't have an existing network, you can also run a special crossover Ethernet (Cat5) cable (not supplied) between your computer and the SL300i--an immediate and affordable alternative.

Without bogging down your PC's resources, the SL300i gives you access to your complete library of digital photos, MP3 music, and computer- and Internet-based movies and video content. Use it with your PC or Mac (Windows 98, 98SE, 2000, ME, and XP and Mac OS X; Mac wireless networking available starting fall 2004). If you plan to connect the device to an existing network, make sure your hardware (router, wireless cardbus adapter, etc.) is WiFi-compliant (802.11g/b). While the product claims 802.11b compatibility, we strongly recommend using 802.11g or, if 802.11b, devices made within the last year or so; we experienced only intermittent success with a 2002-vintage 802.11b router.

With broadband Internet access and a compatible wireless home network already in place, setup should be delightfully simple: plug in the SL300i, hook up the audio and video outputs to your TV or surround receiver via composite- or S-video jacks, and turn it on. In our system, the SL300i "found" our network automatically and allowed us to get right to Internet registration (at my.philips.com) so we could listen to any number of Web radio stations while installing the Philips Media Manager software (or PMM) on our computer. You'll need to disable your Microsoft or other computer-based firewalls, relying instead on the firewall built into your wireless router. (Otherwise, open ports 49152 to 65535 for the SL300i.)

The value of the Internet audio and video should not be underestimated. You can use the many theme-based radio stations from Live365.com, Andante, MP3.com, Playhouse Radio, or Yahoo's LaunchCast (among others) to sonically coordinate a dinner or dance party, and there's plenty there to entertain the kids, too. Yahoo and iFilm.com provide high-quality music videos and film trailers at up to 700 kbps. For radio, sound quality proved remarkably listenable, with most but not all stations broadcasting in stereo, free of the swishy artifacts that plague much online audio. Online services also include Internet gaming.

With respect to streaming your media files, the SL300i sees only the files or folders you've selected for it. Within the PMM--and right from your living room--you can sort music by artist, genre, album, or song, or select slideshow mode for viewing your JPEG digital photos. Full-screen mode expands JPEG images and video streams to literally fill your screen, a nice change from JPEG-friendly DVD players that render a digital photo as a tiny box within a huge black frame.

Unlike the pricier SL400i, the SL300i has no display, so you'll be dependent on your TV and the unit's onscreen display for navigating to available content. But you can manage, right from the well-designed remote, all Internet content and even programming from multiple networked PCs. Coolest of all--while one person is remotely accessing content from a PC's hard drive or the broadband Internet connection, the home PC remains fully usable by other members of the household. A total of two analog stereo audio outputs lets you feed a tape deck or CD recorder in addition to your TV or audio receiver.

Philips is actively updating its services and its software, and the SL300i will periodically update its firmware--a cool feature designed to keep the unit technologically shipshape, running ever more smoothly and accommodating ever more formats. --Michael Mikesell

Pros:

  • Affordable
  • Straightforward setup and installation when used with compatible hardware
  • High-quality streaming audio and video
  • Full-screen and slideshow options for JPEG image viewing
  • Quiet operation
  • Includes access to a wealth of online AV content
  • Supports music playlist creation
  • Fun, colorful, content-modulated screensavers
  • Emits cool blue light when powered

Cons:

  • No on-unit display
  • Finicky performance with some 802.11b hardware
  • Incompatible with computer-based Internet firewalls

5-0 out of 5 stars Best TV for the Money
I needed a flat-panel TV for my dorm room and this one works great. It is amazingly clear and has great sound. I was pleasantly surprised. It's an excellent TV.

5-0 out of 5 stars Magnavox 15 LCD Flat Screen TV
Great compact little TV for the money. However did get it $50 cheaper in the store. Color and Clarity are wonderful for the size.Needed a small tv for a guest bedroom, but didn't want to take up space with a bulky set. This did the trick!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I bought this TV for myself, and I am extremely pleased with it. The picture is great with cable, and even better with DVDs. I love it, however, I bought mine for $50 less at BJ's wholesale club.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Price, Great Product
This is a terrific TV for the money. (When it bought it, it was on sale, too.) It was simple to hook up. I did not have a lot of hope for using it as a monitor for my PC, but low and behold, it functions beautifully as a monitor and a TV. The picture is clear as can be. I hooked up my VCR and DVD player and on the remote you can switch easily between TV and computer monitor. I am really pleased with this little TV.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good LCD TV
After quite a bit of shopping for a 15" LCD TV at local retailers, this one performs as well as any of its competitors ... at a much better price. Picture quality with S-Video Cable and Direct TV is very good. Plenty of inputs for DVD, Sat/Cable, Audio, etc. I'm very satisfied with this purchase and would highly recommend it to others. Amazon.com Product Description

The 20MF200V works great as a quality computer monitor or as a compact home-theater screen, providing slender, stylish viewing from a 20-inch LCD television. The high-contrast (450:1) set comes with a built-in TV tuner for easy broadcast reception. Built-in stereo speakers offer 2 watts per channel, and a remote control grants operation of most features from the convenience of your desk or couch.

LCD screens offer a number of benefits over CRT monitors and televisions, including general ease of use, freedom from eye strain (no screen flickering or radiation emissions), quiet operation (no high-pitch "flyback" noise, an issue with CRT TVs), image geometry (no curvature distortion or susceptibility to magnetic interference from, say, speakers), screen life (no risk of image burn-in), space savings, and light weight/easy positioning.

The 20MF200V features 1,024 x 768 native pixel resolution and an RGB PC input for detailed, luminous images from your computer. Other connections include composite-video and S-video inputs for your DVD player, VCR, or gaming console.

Amazon.com Product Description

From quality VHS cassette recording and playback and high-resolution DVD performance to easy spinning of homemade MP3 CDs, Zenith's XBV442 handles all your movie and music needs. This stylish combo unit saves space while simplifying your entertainment hookups, providing convenient front-panel audio/video jacks simplify hookup with camcorders and video game consoles. The XBV442 plays CDs, CD-Rs, CD-RWs, MP3 and WMA CDs, JPEG image CDs, and of course standard DVD-Videos.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the XBV442 stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs through its progressive-scan component-video outputs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

Composite- and S-video outputs (select between S-video or component-video outputs) bring compatibility with nearly any television. Other features include 4x and 6x moveable zoom, variable high-speed scan (2x, 4x, 16x, and 100x), parental locks, bookmarking, 20-track CD programming, and repeat and resume play.

The VCR section offers 4 heads (for clear slow-motion and stop-action features) and stereo sound. The deck's 19-micron video heads maintain clarity during recording or playback in EP (extended play) mode, auto digital tracking adjusts for optimal picture settings for every tape you load, and auto clock set maintains the correct time and even adjusts for daylight savings. You can't program the unit to record at specific times, but it does come with a handy Instant Recording button.

For the simplest hookup with your TV, you can use a single RCA composite-video connection to handle both DVD and VCR outputs. If you want a higher-quality connection from the DVD player, you can use a component- or S-video cable to an additional input on your TV (the VCR image requires a composite-video or RF connection with your TV). You can choose between an optical and a coaxial digital-audio output to feed a surround-sound signal to your Dolby Digital- or DTS-decoding audio/video receiver.

If you don't have a surround receiver or 6-channel speaker setup, you can still make every movie night the ultimate experience: the unit simulates surround sound through two speakers (even the stereo speakers on your TV).
