5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME CAMMIN!
A totally awesome and quite an impressive webcam with face-tracking, digital zoom and built-in microphone - all with an extremely affordable price. Super easy to install (especially with XP) and user-friendly software package. I'm told that the detail, image clarity and overall quality online is spectacular. People often ask me what type of web camera I am using and I always tell. So, I know that this camera sells itself.

I'm sold on Logitech for a long time because of this camera! I've tried three other manufacturer's webcams and have been consistently disappointed with driver updates for operating systems and compatibility with online messengers. The Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 works great with ALL of my instant messengers and online chat plug ins!

5-0 out of 5 stars Works Great on MY PC, ok on my MAC
To date this is the best of 3 web cams I've used. I bought this and the Isight at the same time, ended up returning the Isight because we elected to use the PC for our web cam machine.

Note: I only use this as a web-cam for communication, I don't use any of the other software that comes with it.

The camera setup is fairly well though out. I really like the fact they give you two stands, one for a CRT and one for an LCD.

Installation of the software on an old PIII dell under windows 2000 went pretty much by the book. My only complaint was that it took a rather long time to install the software. Once installed it detected the camera and all was well.

I do photography as a hobby and compared to still cameras or even conventional video cameras the image quality was lacking, but you have to remeber what this device is for. The auto white balance worked pretty good, way out performing my Isight. I haven't messed with the face tracking software, I figure thats just a problem waiting to happen.

It plugged and worked (video wise) with my Mac and PC. I had some issues with getting the audio to work with my mac and Ivisit but I didn't really pay attention since I wasn't planning on using it for the Mac anyway.

On the PC it works fine, does an ok image, recognized by Yahoo IM and Ivisit.

Because of the pull of the cable getting it pointed in just the right direction is sometimes problematic.

All in all I am happy with it. It does its job well.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT LOVE IT
Finally I got the 4000 pro and watch a 5000 will come out LOL Either way this cam rocks! I made a ton of videos right away and pics with ease. I love this cam! The picture is so clear and the mic is very good. I recommend!

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME WEBCAM!
I had an IBM, Then an IBOT, Then a Tracker Robotic Cam Pod that I paid over 200 dollars for and it never worked right! The company gave me the run around for 2 years. I finally gave up! A Logitech 3000 was attached to the robotic piece of garbage. So I used that cam for the past 2 years. The picture started to get grainy and there was no way of making it clearer anymore. I ran this camera non stop 24 hours a day pretty much for 2 years. So I decided it was time for a new cam! I love Logitech webcams and I was more then happy at how easy this was to install over all the other cams I pulled my hair out over. Plus the software is AMAZING! I started making video's and sending them everywhere. I think all webcams have a short life. After experimenting with my own and seeing my friend's. This is a great bang for your buck. I totally recommend this cam!

5-0 out of 5 stars The little camera that could, can and does!
This is one of Logitech's better bang-for-the-buck inventions.

Automatically, it zooms in or out on you, as if another person is filming you. Sound is good, not the best, but very, very clear and audible. Picture is superb.

Have fun gabbing online face-to-face with other web cam nuts, or enjoy filming yourself talking to yourself. Fun and affordable. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Work On XP Computers
If you run it on Win 2000 computers, its awesome. You can pan and tilt across a whole room manually or let the face tracking software track you during a video conference. The face tracking works very well as long as you don't have too noisy of a background in the room to confuse the camera. If we all ran Win 2000 machines, I'd rate the product a 4 star!

Unfortunately, the product doesn't work well on my New Dell Windows XP machine and a few other people have reported a similar problem on XP machines. The range of the pan and tilt seems to mysteriously only be about 20 percent of full range. It looks like a softare problem. If Logitech fixes this bug, we're back to 4 star all around.

To get a 5 star rating, Logitech would need to include some more useful software like motion detector software, and the ability to control your camera remotely via the web. As it is you can only control it locally at your PC.

1-0 out of 5 stars horrible
what seemed like a wonderful idea - new and advanced.. has turned out to be a thorn in my side - and left me with trying to find a new camera.

the good side - is the picture quality is state of the art.

that is all.

after the first day - the face tracking stopped working.. and now the entire camera wont tilt upwards. for now, its sitting on books.

a total waste of money. - i had the first Logitech series cam they had out.. and it worked like a champ - and still does.. however now its too obsolete to work with XP.

1-0 out of 5 stars If I could give this a zero I would.
I can't review the product itself because I could never get it to install, but I will review the installation.

If your computer has a SiS or VIA Chipset I would recommend you not buy this thing. The instructions say nothing about having a problem with these chipsets and as for the instructions, they are typical instructions for products these days, none existence. The same for the live support, a real joke...

Buried in Logitech's Knowledge Base I found that if you have one of these chipsets you have to reconfigure your computer to what I would equate to standing on your head and trying to drink water. If you don't know what I am talking about when I say SiS and VIA chipset, I can just tell you that these are two very common chipsets used with USB.

I also tried to install this thing on three different computers and it didn't work on any of them. The first two computers had either the SiS and VIA chipset, but the third did not and it still didn't work on the third one. Five hours of wasted time later is when I decided that it wasn't worth my time to fool with this lousy installation and I returned the product.

Logitech's lost not mine...

1-0 out of 5 stars customer deception
Logitech pro 4000 camera does not work with AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) in the most unbelievable deception that a buyer caught unawares may have to face; never had so many problems with a piece of hardware (crashed a 4-yearold laptop through audio incompatibility)

4-0 out of 5 stars Logitech Quckcam Orbit Problem Fixed Tilt Pan
I am a seasoned pc user, I found the features to be great. The problems started as soon as I installed the camera though. First I plugged it in... Windows XP didn't find any drivers. I unplugged the camera and installed the software from Logitech (newly downloaded of course). I always chuck the original cd, newest drivers are always on line. The computer restarted and locked up (Windows XP). Turns out this camera likes a powered usb hub, I moved it to the powered hub. I restarted again and all was working... BUT
Using the pan and tilt features I found the camera only moved a smidge at a time, although the demo had the thing zipping around freely. I read that the software should be reinstalled, NOT... after the uninstall process Norton 2004 password manager crashed. I reinstalled the software and had the same pan and tilt problem, but Norton was alive again. It dawned on me that the data transfer must be intensive and I switched the usb connector from the 1.1 hub to the 2.0 card (guess that's what the long cable is for, NICE, my computer is in the closet). Now it works PERFECTLY, I am IMPRESSED and I will keep it! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars problems
hey,,Im back... I was happy with this for one day when taking the first pics., then this cam started displaying lots of colors and lines on the screen, and making lots of noises got crazy,,, had to send it back and get my money back. that's it using flash, drains batteries in less than 9 pics.. I may got a defected one but hopefully you are luckier than me

3-0 out of 5 stars not really good
this review is the same than the next up

4-0 out of 5 stars Only one reason for one less star..........
NO INSTRUCTIONS!! Well, no sufficient's basically a "you figure it out" kinda camera. Don't let this hinder you if you are considering buying this camera, though...because with the digital technology the way it is's no problem at all to figure the buttons out.
Two years ago, i bought a $400.00 digital camera and brought it back because i hated it....couldn't move the slightest bit because the pictures came out blurry...could hardly breath when you were snapping a picture!! The Logitech 820 takes AWESOME digital pictures!! Better than the 400 dollar camera i had bought!!
It also takes really good still shots from the webcam itself...such high quality and definition. I have yet to use the webcam capabilities, but i'm sure i won't be disappointed.
The main reason i bought this camera was for the "digital camera" mode. I really wasn't expecting the quality i received for the price i paid. My advice for someone who doesn't want to shell out the big bucks for a digital to buy this Logitech 820. You will NOT be disappointed. I do also agree with the suggestion of the first yourself a bigger memory card...and some extra AAA batteries!! You'll be snapping pictures like a fool with this camera!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use and high resolution for picture.
This camera is easy to use and better than another brand of camerea I have use before. I used to own Vivitar Vivicam 3625 2.1MP Digital Camera but it was diffcult to use. The button on the camera was hard to use. I am so glad that I got this camera and get rid of my Vivitar camera. Logitech Clicksmart 820 is a little heavier than other type camera such as the model I just mention earlier from Vivitar. Overall is not too bad. The downside about this camera, well, not just this camera but this goes to a lot of camera, is the internal memory is pretty smart. It has 8 MB of internal memory, which if you're really going on a trip and use this camera to take picture at 1600 by 1200 then I would suggest you need to buy at least 64MB of SmartMedia Card. According to Logitech information said this camera can take 12 pictures in 1600 by 1200 in 8 MB but from what I have test out the camera. It actually can take up 18 pictures in 1600 by 1200. I have add on a 128 MB SmartMedia Card for my camera so I can actually take picture in 1600 by 1200 app. 280 or a little more pictures, which to me that is a lot of picture!!!!-- If you're taking picture in 640 by 480, that'll be over 1000 pictures. I don't think I will ever reach the max. since I don't take picture very often.

Some information show in the logitech camera is not 100% correct. For example the camera has a timer setup and it is 10 sec. timer, but it is actually about 15 second before it takes the picture even though 10 sec. is what it'll shows on your LCD screen from your camera. Also the number that showed how many pictures you have left to take isn't correct either. Let's just say you'll 12 pictures show on your LCD is available for you take to pictures. but you can actually take up 18 pictures before it reachs the 0. It wasn't too bad since it only showed less pictures which you can take more than what it showed better than showing more pictures to take but endup taking fewer pictures than it showed. Overall I would strongly recommend Clicksmart 820 from other brand of camera that is similar to this one and also those previous model of clicksmart camera as well. ClickSmart 820 has LCD color screen, quicksend, 2x precision digital zoom and external SmartMedia memory slot (for more memory for your camera) that does not has from it older model of ClickSmart. Buy smart and use smart with ClickSmart 820. Except one thing I forget to mention, this camera also has a video mode for recording video in 320 by 240 in digital camera and 640 by 280 in webcam. If you ask. is it a good video recorder? Well, I will have to say don't count on it. The video mode is nice to play around but don't expect your video to be as good as a real video camera. Since video mode will not have flash light on, it will need a place that has a lot of light for it to work a little better. Even though Logitech did not say this is a 3 in 1 camera use, they're somehow consider as 3 in 1 and personally to me, I will only consider 2 in 1 only, which are digital camera and webcam. Video mode is useless to me because of its low resolution and no flash light on even though this camera has microphone build in. Then again if you're looking for similar camera that has 3 in 1 in perfect quality of both pictures and videos, I would have to say that is no such camera can do that. (At least not right now). This camera is great for personal use but not great for professional use. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not as advertised
The provided software, required to use the camera, kept freezing on my WinXP system. I tried installing the camera on my wife's Mac G4 since it's supposed to be compatible with OSX - it would not work with the software I downloaded from Logitech (no Mac software is provided for Mac on in the included CD). I tried the alternate QuickCam software for Windows on Logitech's website (no explanation on differences between this and what is provided on the CD). Instructions on use of the camera and software are pathetic. The program help covers many models besides the one purchased and have to read through to find out how 'your' model functions. The 'hood' on the camera is flimsy and kept falling off. I was able to get an image using Windows built-in camera software - image was okay in ambient room lighting, but is poor in low light. I emailed Logitech about the software problem and answer in 2 days was to uninstall and reinstall which I had already done without success. I did not get a clear explanation of the differences between the two types of software provided other than QuickCam would not work with instand messaging services. I was not able to use this camera for any of the reasons I bought it and I returned it to Amazon.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not an Optical Zoom
Warning: This product has fixed optics. Although you can "Zoom In" from a window in Net Meeting, all it does is blow up the image. As a result, you can not get fine resolution with Zoomed-In images. I feel this is border-line misrepresentation of a product because the box indicates that the camera module itself is a zoom camera. If you don't want zoom, it's a fine camera. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great pocket size digital!
I needed a pocket size digital camera that I could easily take with me anywhere. I have a 5 year old Sony Mavica that is my workhorse, and it's a great camera, but way to big and bulky for carefree snapshots. After lots of searching and procrastinating I bought this one based on the price, portability, rechargeble internal lithium ion battery, and good reviews. I am greatly pleased with my choice.

It is easy to use, takes very nice photos, is very portable (about the size of a business card and less than an inch thick) and looks and feels nice too, with its brushed stainless, slide open case. It fires up almost instantly, no waiting like with my Mavica. It is compatible with both PC and Mac, and on my Mac I didn't need to use the software that came with it. I just plugged it in (the USB cable also comes with it) and my computer asked if I would like IPhoto to download the pics. 10 seconds later I was done, and the camera was busily recharging the battery through the USB cable. The lithium ion battery does not exhibit the memory affect, i.e. you can recharge it before it is fully discharged without it affecting battery life. SLICK!

This camera does not do it all, there aren't any bells and whistles, just the important basics like a timer function, flash, and choice of 2 format sizes. It also can take up to 188 small format shots without needing a download. For me it's the perfect little portable camera for web and smaller format print photos. What it does, it does very well.

2-0 out of 5 stars Does not live up to the hype
I bought this camera after reading positive reviews on amazon and the web. Don't believe the reviews. The camera is on its way back to amazon as I type this. It is not worth the money.

The pictures come out good if you can hold the camera still long enough for the camera to take the picture. You push the shutter release and have to wait 2-3 seconds before you can move.

Also, the lens is not "true." You have to be pointing the camera perfectly at what you want to get what you think you are getting. No room for error.

4-0 out of 5 stars great camera
This is by far the best 1.3 megapixel camera I have owned and extremely convenient too. It's small and strong enough to carry in any pocket all the time ready for quick use.The power and shoot time
is about 2 seconds with 1 second between subsequent shots. As long as you have reasonably steady hands the picture quality outdoors or under fluorescent lights is excellent.Indoors in poor lighting its a little harder to judge flash distance for good results.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Little Camera
This is a good little camera. Very easy to use, and the shots I took were pretty good. Indoor and close up shots are a little tricky, but overall a great prurchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Little Camera
Win an award with this camera I think not, however for what it represents itself to be it delivers. The camera is about as simple as it can get, just point and shoot, the included software is very user friendly and helpful. If your looking for a secondary camera to carry with you for those unplanned, photo opportunities this one is definitely worth considering. The cost is well worth the camera, which is in its on very well made metal cover, and is not only very compact, but nice looking as well ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not for everyone
If you don't have a digital camera, have no immediately plan to invest a big chunk of money into "real" digital camera, but you're looking to buy a webcam. If the descriptions fit you, then this handy little gizmo provides a perfect solution for all your imaging needs. As a webcam, it provides solid quality and idiot-proof usability of a traditional Logitech webcam. You just plug in the USB cable, install the software, and up you go (no extra power source is needed for the webcam feature). I tested mine with MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger, and it worked just fine with both programs. As a digital cam, all you have to do is yank out the USB cable, load 4 AAA batteries, and point-and-shoot. The bundled 8MB flash stores up to 121 1,280 x 960 or 640 x 480 still images, 184 320X240 images, or a number of video clips (the amount of video can be stored depends on resolution and the length of the clip). When you're finished, plug the USB cable back, with one push of the "Sync" button, everything on the flash are downloaded to your computer. It's that simple. No fuss at all. The stills produced by the camera are, by no means, professional. They are not even print-quality, for that matter. But the pictures are good enough for emails or webpages.

I hear people complaining that the camera does not have a LCD display, the resolution for stills is too low (1280x960 is achieved by software enhancement, native max. res. is only 640x480), no zooming, and things of that sort. But come on, you can't really expect a 100 dollar camera performs like a 500 digital camera. In short, this is a camera for those who need a decent webcam and also a simple point-and-shoot for occasional low-quality stills. For those who want a high quality, high-end digital camera, have 800 bucks ready and look elsewhere. For those who already have a high-end digital camera but need a webcam, also move on, there are much cheaper webcams that perform at par with ClickSmart 510. I hope this helps.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera for the money!
I just bought the Logitech ClickSmart 510 Digital Camera and I think it's great. It takes great pictures for the price. If you are a true photographer I would NOT reccomend this camera to you. This camera is simply good for a first digital camera or people looking to take pictures to email or post on a website. It also doubles as a webcam. It's quality from that stand point is pretty nice. It also stores up to 90 seconds of low res. video which is good for capturing the amusment park ride or a trip down the waterslide. The button on the front of the camera is great for uploading pictures in a snap. On the downside, the camera doesn't have a zoom feature or a picture preview but other than that I can say this is a great camera for the money, and I am very happy with my purchuse. :-D

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to Use, Good Value
This is the first camera I bought to use as a webcam. I bought it specifically to communicate with my family while deployed. But since it also can be used as a regular digital camera, although not the same quality, I got more than just a webcam. The pictures I took seem to be just great quality anyhow.

Without getting into technical stuff which I don't have time to understand, I'd say one the greatest strengths of this camera is it's ease of use. You could say it really is plug and play. I put in the batteries, inserted the disk and connected the cord. Then it loads up pretty easy. I got an account thru Yahoo Messenger and in no time I was able to see and talk to my wife and son. In fact the hardest part was talking to my wife about how to connect her camera.

The camera seems well designed. It feels solid, durable, not delicate. It uses regular AAA batteries, even comes with optional sound. That's useful if you ever wonder -- did the picture take? The stand that makes it a webcam is maneuverable and practical -- you can set it just how you want.

I think it is a good value, but you may find a better price elsewhere.

4-0 out of 5 stars Web Cam Only
I primarly baught this as a webcam, to chat with my friends and family, while living overseas. It has been fabulous as a webcam, and so far I'm pleased with the way it performs. I also baught one for my father, and he has been pleased with his as well. However, I've had issues with the media card that came with it. I only took one picture with mine (several with my fathers), and now it won't work. I went to the FAQ page for logitech and apparently it's a normal problem. They claim I have to have the card replaced. I'm not greatly bothered by this, as I was planning on getting a larger card anyway, but until I do, the fact that the camera is a dual mode means nothing. This is the reason I only give it four stars. However, my dad hasn't had any problems with his, so I'd recommend this camera to anyone. In fact, I already have.
Also,as a digital camera, don't expect anything spectacular. If you wan't a great digital picture, get a great digital camera. I baught this to give myself a clear picture when chatting online, not to get a great picture.

3-0 out of 5 stars Logitech ClickSmart 510
- too big.
- the stand is hard to adjust and mine broke, so i cant adjust it at all. the camera is so heavy that it just leans down because the stand cant even keep it up anymore.
- when it's not connected to the computer, the flash sucks. it's too bright when you take a picture. everything is white.
- the settings and coloring aren't that good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Logitech Traveler (A great Deal)
The Logitech Traveler is a great web cam! I saw a $1500 Sony Mavica used as a web cam The immage was not as good as this little gem. I took it to The Hoover Dam. Some of the Pics were really good and some were not but who cares. U can snap so many, Just click and then u can delete the junk. I have had so many compliments on the quality. I operate on a 1 gig Athlon with 384MB or memory dial up with Windows ME. Yes the Photos taken at your PC are really great. I have never had any problems with the software . After reading the reviews I am afraid to download any new Upgrades. I see other people on cam. They ask me the brand name because they say the immage is such quality!!!! Thumbs up Here

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for multi-function but quality only "ok"
I bought this product from ...[price] based on the reviews and the editor's choice .... The outstanding features of this camera is 1. Easy to use, you can take pictures on the way home since batteries are included. Built in microphone, you don't need an extra cord for microphone. 2. Quality is ok for indoor shooting. 3. Price is acceptable. However, there are some shortcoming: 1. No flash, that make your pictures look too dark and no details. 2. No good for outdoor, this camera tend to misjudge the sunlight so most pictures are worst than ones took indoor. And also no good for objects with distance.
After think carefully and did some study on the internet. I decided to return this product. Because most of the time I would use it to shoot as a digital camera. Maybe only once a week doing some video conference. I found one which can meet my need better---"Fujifilm FinPix A101... These are my experience looking for a "not expensive" but quality more than acceptable, "pc-cam" feature, flash light. Hope this review would help those who has similar needs.

3-0 out of 5 stars Worked after WEB Software Download
After installation, some functions worked, but was unable to download digital still photos. Finally went to Logitech WEB and downloaded latest software, performed Drive Image prior to installation of downloaded software and executed download. Now able to download digital still photos successfully. Software that came with WEB cam doesn't perform, even crashed my system. Logitech should also provide Technical Support Numbers for frustrated customers in the User Guide. Logitech also put disclaimer on 'latest download software', which didn't give me a warm fuzzy...but I was doing a Drive Image, so I have a fall back position.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Buy
The QuickCam Traveler is one of the most satisfying purchases I have made in a long time -- and well worth the price. I was in the market to purchase a simple WebCam, but when I laid eyes on the Traveler I was hooked. USB makes connecting very simple and the fact that it runs on Windows 2000 was a major plus for me. It has an attractive design to it (as opposed to the Intel Pocket PC Camera, which I wouldn't be caught dead carrying). The built in microphone works awesome and frees up extra wires running around my desk. In addition to an adjustable desktop stand, it also includes a SmartClip, which allows the camera to be attached to a laptop or flatscreen monitor.

The Logitech software included is great. Everything integrates nicely together and, as opposed to a lot of packaged software, the applications are actually very useful. I had the camera up and running in less than 30 minutes and a WebCam online shortly after. Streaming video is simple as is video email. The pictures snapped when connected to the PC are excellent.

I had planned on purchasing a WebCam and the Traveler gets 5 stars in that area. The fact that it also detaches and works as a stand-alone digital camera is an added bonus for me. As a digital camera, the Traveler holds 60 Hi-Res pictures (640x480) or 240 Lo-Res (320x240)! I probably would have given it 5 stars if it had a built-in flash, but my only major disappointment is that it is difficult to take good clear pictures as a stand-alone camera. There are two slider positions for distant and close shots with a "middle" setting for those shots somewhere in between. Probably with a little practice I'll have that part of it mastered, though.

All in all, I think the camera is worth the money and have no disappointments about the purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very cool PC cam/digital camera combo that performs!
I upgraded to the QuickCam Traveler from an Intel PC cam that wouldn't work with Windows 2000. Needless to say that while this model is at the high-end pricewise, it really performs and has features galore including a built-in microphone and motion-activated video capture! As a PC video camera, this model is a 5-star model packed with features, however I give it an overall 4-1/2 star rating due to its limited capabilities as a digital camera.

As a video camera, close-up snapshots are clear and crisp at 640x480. Video captured at the ideal 320x200 was perfectly smooth, unlike the horribly choppy video I got from the Intel camera (forget about video at 640x480 ... USB just can't handle this kind of throughput).

I didn't buy the camera for its portable digital camera capabilities, so I consider this a nice bonus. As a digital camera, it's extremely easy to use, but you don't get a flash, zoom or autofocus. The biggest problem I noticed was difficulty in getting distance shots to be in focus. There is a small slider on the front that allows you to set the focus between close-up and distance shots. The manual claims that you really only have to set it to one of the two extremes, but I found that in order to get ideal focus, I had to set the slider somewhere in between -- a minor setback that I think I can adapt to.

The software is fantastic ... very elegant and integrated into a single interface ... and it's compatible with all current versions of Windows (98, ME, 2000) unlike Intel . There's even a feature to do stop-motion animations, web cam broadcasts and video emails. In short, Logitech comes through again with another stylish winner that will have the competitors envious! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars It's Okay just for FUN ^_^
At first I was having a hard time installing the software that Logitech provided. Turns out that the cd is out-of-date (my OS is Windows XP Prof.). So if you're having troubles with the webcam actually showing up on the monitor (mine was pitched black >_<) I recommend downloading their latest software from their site! ^_~

You need good lighting! Taking webcam pictures while the sun is up is highly recommended. Make sure your blinds/drapes are open in your computer room. Pictures taken when it's dark outside and using your ceiling's light may not look great compared to the ones taken in the day (at least from my experience). It looks more 'pixelly' during the night compared to the day.

I find taking pictures on a somewhat cloudy day is the best results! If it's too sunny the face looks too contrasted and makes your face (especially the nose) pale and blurred out. Of course, you can edit the setting but for the usage as a 'digital camera' you won't be able to tell the lighting quality.

The webcam pictures aren't exactly great. They say you can take pictures with a resolution of 640x480 but the quality isn't that great at all (2/5). Lots of pixels and your face is really blurry even if you freeze and hold your pose for those 3 seconds to *click* =P. Personally, I only use the lowest resolution 160x120, because it takes the best quality out of the three resolution options.

If you're thinking of using this as a digital camera *snicker* I wouldn't recommend you buying a Logitech's digital + web camera. =P This model does NOT have the LCD preview in the back so you don't know what you're taking with a *very* steady hand. Even with a steady hand the pictures end up blurry!

If I could return this back I would and pay the difference for the ClickSmart 510 webcam because that one contains a flash so the pictures will at least turn out with some good lighting. For this model, you really have to check your lighting and make sure you freeze as long as possible! lol.

I guess the only pros. about this webcam is that it's small, light, and cool-looking! ^_^;; However, this may be a con for someone with large hands as it may not be as comfortable as an actual decent digital camera! =P I love the stand because it's easier to slip in and out BUT it's also easy to knock-over. I've knocked this webcam out at least 3-4 times onto the floor, and it still works. Though, the "digital camera" memory function does not work that well, but since I do not use as an actual digicam, it's not a big deal. This is a great webcam if you have great lighting and the design is *cool*.

It's great for playing around kids, tweens, and teens. But for adults umm why not get an actual webcam and a decent digital camera? Don't cut corners because even though you are saving quite a lot of money, the quality of the pictures are what you pay for. Best of luck in making the decision for buying a webcam/digicam. ^_^

5-0 out of 5 stars This camera works really great, I am absolutely satisfied.
I bought this one online a few days ago, I like absolutely the way it works in taking still picture and video.
It's so easy to set up and run on my computer,it took me just 2 minutes to take a test drive in my room.
It controled automatically exposure, focusing on a subject in
low light and gave me good quality pictures.
Before ordering the item, I took a careful look at the other
people's reviews, they helped me a lot in choosing an expensive,
excellent stuff like this one, now I feel I have made a good decision this time. Finally, here is some feedbags I would like to give you: If you are looking for an affordable web camera with good function, try this one first, after you tried it, you'll love it, a great motion picture maker.

4-0 out of 5 stars love it
this is a excellent webcam. i bought it used and have had no problem as far as lighting goes. highly recomended

2-0 out of 5 stars grainier than quite a large beach
I bought this camera to replace a four-year-old webcam, which had finally died. To the best of my memory, the old one hadn't been particularly expensive either. When it was all plugged in, however, the quality of the pictures was so grainy that it prompted me to get a screwdriver out and fix the old one.

The old webcam rides again, and logitech will be getting this one back.

4-0 out of 5 stars For what I expected, it's fine.
I expected a decent webcam with quality and I got it. It might be a bit too expensive for what it is, but being that I have gone through millions of webcams with my website [, my webcam shows its quality], I'm rather picky about them and this one is fine. The quality is excellent during the day, and with proper lighting at night it works even better [remember guys, no camera works without proper lighting].

It's not the beeest, but it's what I expected and I'm doing perfectly fine with it. If you don't like it you can always return it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome little cam!!
the people who find this hard to install must have brain damage - it is plug and play at its simplest and best - xp recognizes it in a flash and the software is effortless to install - I tried the similarly priced creative webcam pro and couldn't say the same - the picture quality is not exactly what I get from my coolpix 5700 but for something its size it is really quite extraordinary - the video is totally fun to play with and the mic is really amazing too - I haven't used my headset once with this- the automatic compression for sending the videos is nice too - also the face tracking feature is impressive although there is a little too much zoom for my personal taste - the stop motion animation feature is a bonus and fun to play with - overall a great product for the price - two small complaints - the shield (blue pastic piece) keeps falling off and the base is less than totally sturdy - I use a thin flat-screen monitor and had to jerry-rig a way to keep it in place. For the $60 Canadian I paid during a boxing day sale I feel like I got the best posisble deal - A+

5-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!
This really couldn't have been any easier to use. I literally took it out of the box, plugged the camera into my USB port, installed the software and I was done and able to take pictures all within the space 10 minutes!

Many other webcams give off quite poor quality pictures but this camera's picture is really clear and not at all grainy. You can use the timer option on this aswell.

So if you're looking for a good webcam that won't cost you an arm and leg, look no further than this one!

4-0 out of 5 stars This camera is great
This camera works fine, the installation is quick and easy..if u know what ur doing, and everything else is smooth, the picture quality is smooth and clear, and the video and sound work good,i recommend that u buy this

3-0 out of 5 stars one flaw with this cam!!!!
Its a good cam for the money, the only problem is ,it will not stay on the stand ,keeps moving around falls off my pc. Its aggravating!!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Plug n Play sucks
The software that comes with the webcam doesn't work at all and you've to download the updated software from logitech site. Also I found this hard way, this web cam doesn't work for Windows 2003. Logitech has no plans of providing drivers for Windows 2003. I'm hopeful that someday they will change their decision and provide drivers for Windows 2003. Looks like till then I've to login and logout of Windows XP whenever I've to use the webcam. Having said that the picture quality of this web cam is excellent. I would have given three stars if only the installation was also as smooth as the picture quality. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Size matters, and small is a good thing
So you're thinking about buying a new digital camera, something to take pictures of the family and friends...maybe print them out to look at later...well then the Logitech Pocket Digital is NOT for you! It really is a pretty cool little camera (emphysis on little...2"x3.25"x0.4" or 5.7x8.8x 1.2cm for you metric folks). It's a great little camera for taking pictures of all those wacky things you just wish you had a camera for...however, don't expect it to be taking award-winning pictures for the family photo album. It may have a small and large picture setting, but the camera really only takes pics in 640x480 format (the larger setting only expands the 640x480 into a larger, blurrier picture). One hint: get it on sale (like I did), its not worth the $99 Logitech would have you pay.

4-0 out of 5 stars nifty little camera, good value
This is a neat little camera if you want an inexpensive digital camera and don't need high quality pictures.

Picture sizes are 640x480 or 1280x960. It holds 53 pictures regardless of size. Each image takes 2 to 6 seconds to download on my 700 mHz machine; it varies with picture size and complexity. The 1280x960 pictures do indeed have better resolution than 640x480.

It's the size of a credit card, but about 3/8" thick so it won't fit in a wallet. At the lens, it's about 1/2" or 5/8" thick. It's light enough that I forget I have it in my pocket. I plan to keep one in my laptop briefcase, to take pictures of whiteboards before they get erased. (I won't be able to read all of what's written; the image quality isn't quite good enough.)

Very easy to install and use. Once the software is installed, just plug the camera in. If there are any pictures in the camera a popup appears. Just click OK or hit space to move them to your computer (or click Browse to navigate). Fine for even techno-challenged folks, if they can find the USB port. The unreplacable battery recharges through the USB cable.

The biggest limitation is no flash. Takes OK pics in a typical well-lit office setting, but you have to hold it very still. Fine outdoors even on cloudy days.

Optics are not great (what do you expect from such a tiny lens?) There is very noticeable radial lens distortion (straight lines near the picture edge bow outward). Resolution problems are noticeable when you display the images at full size, but images are fine up to a print size of 4x6" -- like an Instamatic or a disposable.

Of course, it doesn't have any of the nice features we expect from bigger or more expensive cameras. No zoom, no image display.

For example shots, see ...". The first image is 640x480, the second is 1280x960.

It's a great novelty or convenience, and it's very affordable.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's good for what it's good for....
This camera is all about portability. Don't expect much more than a cool little camera you can slip into a shirt pocket & you won't be disappointed.

Installation is easy and the camera is a snap (no pun intended) to use.

Great gift for a kid....

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor poor little camara
The Logitech Pocket Digital has very bad picture quality even for a 1.3 megapixeldigital camara. The pictures that I took in very bright light turned out ok, but if there was any shade around it would not turn out worth crab. Don't buy this camara unless you plan on carrying a spotlight around.

4-0 out of 5 stars Logitech was surely a way to Clicksmart!!
Pros: Quality web cam, smooth installation, software, basic off-line cam, Easy Installation. Lot of Photo Storage, Ease of use, Cheap, Makes a decent PC camera, Great webcam, lightweight.

Cons: Poor quality offline pics, drains batteries almost instantly, Indoor Photos Usually Blurred, Picture quality is unreliable for realistic photos, Added light needed for decent photos, Digital pictures are a bit out of focus, automatically shuts off after 30 seconds non-use.

Summary: The camera is very small and lightweight, made from a strong plastic, I admit my daughter dropped it and it was not damaged at all. I had heard nightmares about the installation process. For me, I put in the disk, it loaded perfectly and never proved to be a challenge at all. Installation took less than 5 minutes and worked fine the first time. I went through the software quickly and the program that runs the webcam/digital photo album/live video e-cards is easy to use - if you can read, you can use the program without any difficulty.
The live video feed and taping come through virtually crystal clear. For the "Creating Videos" you have three pixel size options - 160x120, 320x240, 640x480. It is as easy as setting the camera in so that your subject is in the viewer and pushing a button on the computer to tape. For Digital Pictures - you can unplug the camera and take it with you. High Resolution (352x288 pixels) allows you to take 40 pictures, Low resolution (176x144) allows 160 photos or 15 seconds of video. A timer option allows you to be in the photo as well. In Digital Camera mode you can take photos, Video or Multisnap (allows 5 photos at 1 second intervals)This camera runs on 4 aaa batteries that are not included.

The Bottom Line
This makes a better webcam than digital camera, but for those on a limited budget, it is by far better than not having a digital camera at all!

2-0 out of 5 stars cheap option for neophytes
let's face it, you're not going to get a lot of camera for the money involved, but what you do get is a passable webcam which doubles as a very low-end stand alone digital camera which can be used for happy snaps in good outdoor conditions

my 9 y.o. daughter likes it, and i like the idea of giving her the chance to fire off pics indisciminately for the cost of 4 aaa batteries - a much superior option to film and processing costs for a beginner to experiment, and faster opportunity to view the images they create and encourage consideration of what does and what doesn't work technically and artistically

if you want a real digital camera then go and buy one, but you won't get it for this price; as a cheap beginner's equivalent to a very basic instamatic (with webcam capabilities as an added bonus), this is definitely worth consideration

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Internet camera
This camera has served me well as a web camera for international calls through the internet. I paid 20$ for it at the time, had no problems with it, but never tried to use it as a digital camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect webcam - NOT a digital camera
This product was NEVER meant to be an impressive digital camera. And at <$.., how could it be? As a webcam, I've found the clicksmart to be reliable with a good picture and versatile in terms of different lighting. It's a great way for me to video-conference with friends cross-country. This product is meant to be an inexpensive way to get started in the world of video over ip; if you're buying it for any other reason you will be disappointed

5-0 out of 5 stars Great webcam
This is a great little webcam. Hooked right up to my PC (windows XP) without any problems. The picture clarity and frame rate are great. Also has the added benefit of acting as a stand-alone digital camera. There is no flash - but it takes pretty good images in good light.

Small footprint, simple to use, great for the price. ... Read more

Well, 1984 hit and Big Brother never showed up. But since we have the technology for broadcasting our smiling faces worldwide, we can pretend that it's 1984 all we want. The only difference is, with the Logitech QuickCam Express, we get to be in charge.

Setup for the Logitech QuickCam Express takes only a few minutes; just plug it into a USB port and transfer about 50 MB of software from the accompanying CD into your hard drive. The eerie, eyeball-like camera comes with a base that fits comfortably on top of your monitor or desktop. Calibrate it with the software to get your best side, and you're off and running. With the QuickCam Express you can add photos to online resumes or e-mail, send video letters to faraway friends and family, or use the live conferencing software to turn your computer into a Jetsons-esque video phone.

The image quality isn't perfect; more expensive cameras will yield sharper results. Still, the pictures look good enough for most purposes, and the streaming quality is exceptional (depending, of course, on your Internet connection speed). There are only few controls to master, which will delight the wind-it-up-and-watch-it-go folks, but may infuriate the gadget-loving technophiles out there. For ease of use, low maintenance, and decent quality, the Logitech QuickCam Express is hard to beat. --Rob Lightner

2-0 out of 5 stars cheap price, cheap camera
I've owned this webcam for about a year. It still works, but occassionally my computer won't detect it for whatever reason and I'll have to unplug and replug it into my USB port. That's the only maintenance problem I've had with it.

The picture quality isn't too great. It's very grainy and you can hardly see anything in low light. When I do turn on a light, it totally washes out everything and makes it all white. In order to see things clearly you have to settle for a reddish yellowish hue by using the "default" setting.

The good points are that the camera is very small and portable and extremely easy to install. The software allows you to create pictures, videos, and a live webcam that's really easy to use.

On the whole, I wouldn't recommend this camera because it shows very poor quality images, but I suppose you should expect that considering how cheaply priced it is. You're better off spending a little more for better quality.

4-0 out of 5 stars More than worth the price
The Logitech Quickcam is a more than adequate digital camera. It's a USB device and can be set up in minutes with the very good software than accompanies it. I use it with Microsoft NetMeeting quite a bit and it's very good. Beware though, you will need to be in a very well lit room to get the best pictures - a slightly dark room will lead to what some people call "digitalized" or "pixilized" images. If you have this problem, you may need to keep an extra lamp beside your PC. With NetMeeting the picture size is only about 2" by 2" square. By right-clicking on the picture you can double the picture size, but quality really does suffer quite a bit at that size. The USB cable is a little short, but that's more likely a to be problem with the limitations of USB technology as opposed to bad planning by Logitech. The stand is not very stable either so when you get it steady you really have to avoid moving it at all. Overall the camera really needs to be judged on the picture quality for the price you pay, and on that score the Quickcam passes with flying colours. Easy to set up, easy to use - a bargain.

4-0 out of 5 stars C'mon people it's a WEBCAM
I chose the logitech because it was a brand I had heard of and had decent specs for under 30 bucks. I'm using it so that someone can help me install something and see what I'm doing. It has about the resolution of a modern camera phone. I see some people complain about grainyness. However, you must realize that there is a trade-off with crystal clarity from a webcam and that's that unless you both are on T1 lines you're going to have to SEND all of that clarity and then you'd have severely lagging displays. Be sure the subject is well lit by more of full spectrum lighting (a really yellow lamp looks gross). Unless you're starting a naughty business and if you're just looking for a webcam so that you can chat to friends and go "this is neat" without any severe stipulations on what your demands will be it's just fine. The price is good, the design solid. Suits the average person's needs (webcam thrill will fade and you'll stop using it most likely). If you're going to need to see a loved one stationed overseas or for business use you should probably invest actual money into a quality cam. The stills are lame, get a digicam if you want super clear pics.

If you're looking to save dough and enjoy the amusement of a webcam, the logitech quickcam express is a solid model that will perform reliably and clearly enough.

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent
I bought this because it was in my price range. The quality isn't great, but it does what I need it to do.

If you need a still or video PC camera for school, don't get this one. Spend the extra money and get a really nice one. If you just need a PC camera for instant messageing and sharing photos, this is a good camera.

1-0 out of 5 stars GRAINY!
This was the worst camera! The installation was easy, but most are. THE PICTURE QUALITY IS [bad]! PLEASE dont waste your money on this, I am going to try the 4000 model tomorrow, so I will come back and give a review on that as well. I'm hoping the CCD on the 4000 will improve the quality. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars You can get better cameras for the same price...
Well, I got this camera recently for 79 CAD at Staples and despite the bad reviews, it is easy to install and it works fine (it is probably good enough for most users). The image quality is not great but you can't expect a lot from a webcam. It works well with low light and it makes reasonably good videos. Don't try using it to take snapshots! The quality is awful! The software that came with is not very good and I didn't manage to broadcast videos using it (I had to download other softwares from the internet). The camera design is not too bad but I agree with one of the previous reviewers that said that the camera base doesn't hold it very well. For the same amount (or a little bit more) of money you can get detachable webcams that can be used to take snapshots and will produce images with the same quality.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't even bother!
This is the worst camera no matter what you spend for it! I had it installed and after 20 minutes uninstalled it!! I bought it because of the Logitech name. Won't rely on them for webcams... Very, very grainy picture with a lot of lag! Also very dark picture! I am running a Dell P4 Dimension 8300 with 512M RAM and Windows XP Home Edition.

1-0 out of 5 stars Eventhough it's Logitech, not recommended. Picture is dark.
The picture is terrible as it can't capture much light, hence the picture is very dark. I used to trust reputation of Logitech, but I have been fooled by this product, it seems to be the worst Logitech product ever.
Suggestion about this product:
- If you have bought it and cannot be exchanged/trade-in, add 1 more desktop lamp to highlight you, adjust the brightness and contrast setting may be a little bit help.
- If you haven't bought it, just add few more bucks, I recommend you to buy Creative webcam NX for excellent picture quality.

1-0 out of 5 stars It does not live up to Logitech brand name
I bought this webcam yesterday and its performance is way below expectations. The camera performs pathetically in low light. The pictures were grainy and video capture is equally bad.

This camera is not worth its money.

1-0 out of 5 stars This camera is awful
You can get a much better camera for the same or less money in many cases. My big complaint is the CMOS picture quality. It's REALLY bad. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars exactly what I needed
I don't know much about webcams so I can't give you a professional opinion. This is the first webcam I got and I wanted something that wasn't too expensive, but still high quality. I went to [stores] and had the people working there give me some recommendations and opinions. I had also researched a little online on different webcams, prices, quality, and video resolution. I finally came and decided to buy this one. It was a little more expensive than what I was originally willing to spend on, but I have to admit, the quality and picture is crisp and clean. It even fixes difficult lightening situations and automatically corrects. It also comes with a lot of software for you to edit your pictures, or create a card and send to family and friends. It took me about 5 minutes to set up as well. All I had to do was install the software, plug in the USB cord, and the program box popped up and I was ready to go. I give it 5 stars for good quality, easy installation, and useful software. I'm actually glad I spent a little extra money. I don't want to waste my time by getting a bad quality, cheap webcam and being disappointed and eventually going out and spending even more money to get a good one. If you have the cash, GET THIS ONE!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Simple fix for heavy USB cable & camera pops off base
Throw away the base that comes with this camera. Both the QuickCam Pro 3000 and QuickCam Pro 4000 cameras attach to its Logitech base with a little pin at the bottom of the camera. Simply unscrew this pin from the camera to remove it. Purchase an inexpensive standard 4" mini-tripod from a hanging rack in any good camera store (Ritz, National Camera Exchange, etc.) and screw the tripod into the camera. Best Buy only carries mini-tripods that don't have universal movement. Look for one that has a ball head, which will allow you to easily rotate and tilt the camera, locking a twist-pin when you are happy with your setting. No more problem with the camera popping off its base, or the heavy USB cable weighing it down and moving it out of your preferred adjustment. I bought a Quantaray brand from Ritz, but I'm sure there are many brands. The mini-tripod won't cost more than a meal for two at Burger King and you'll decide you absolutely love the camera, once these 2 little annoyances are finally the way they should have been designed in the first place! (I bought the 4000, so I'll post this message there as well.)

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth it....
This is my first experience with a webcam. I did do some research before purchasing.

It arrived last night and I had it working on my 3 year old laptop (Win98) in an hour. That's including both Logitech software AND downloading third party software from the Internet...I was up and running in no time. I'm impressed with how this little plastic ball handles low/difficult lighting, and I'm a pretty experienced photographer.
I haven't tried the mic, yet, except for offline test. If that is OK, boost my rating to 5 stars. Yes, the swivel could be tighter, but you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out to leave a little slack in the cable so it doesn't pull on the camera.
If only it had a power zoom lens, built-in light, and wireless connection...guess I can't have everything!

2-0 out of 5 stars Short lived
I bought this camera about a year ago and it worked pretty good. I stopped using it and stored it away for a while when I started using it again the picture was fickering then it quickly got worse. I have checked the cables for kinks checked my software install and even tried it on other PC's with the same results. I just prchased the Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000 and i'm hoping to have better luck.

2-0 out of 5 stars Worst. Design. Ever.
While the Logitech Quickcam Pro 3000 is a pretty good webcam from an image quality perspective, the design is nothing short of horrible. The cam itself is an orb which sits on top of a cheap plastic stand. The cam is fixed to the stand by a thin plastic tube, which is used to rotate and adjust the camera. The problem is the tube constantly pops out when rotating the camera, making it a frustrating chore to do any kind of positioning. Overtime the hole in the base becomes stripped and the plastic tube may break. It's just plan bad.

Outside of the design, the image quality is pretty good. Nothing that cannot be found in cameras for half the price from Creative. The built in USB microphone is also a plus.

Overall it's not a good camera for the price and the cheap design ensures it will not last long. Avoid it. ... Read more
