4-0 out of 5 stars Nice compact camera
I bought one of these last September, and really like it, as do my friends. It's very small and compact, and takes decent photos, enough for most snap happy people. I agree about the night time stuff. I dark light, the camera has to be a certain distance away. Too close and everything is white, too far away, and there's little to be seen, but you soon get used to it.

Very good in sunlight, although it does put a hue on the picture that some people might find annoying, but I kinda like it. Works very well with Mac OS X and iPhoto, and also compatible with XP without drivers but don't know what software is like.

3-0 out of 5 stars A review
I bought this camera as a gift for myself on a trip to Cardiff. It was only 60£ on sale(Gadgetshop). And while it's not a professional camera, it's very nice for snapshots. I have found that if you shoot into the sun, it flairs badly and the sensor is overwhelmed in direct sunlight, But the camera does take reasonable photos. The camera suffers jpeg compression problems on large areas of similar colors, But on complex scenes they do not appear. The flash is only effective up to 12 feet. Night photography is not what this camera is designed for. But I like the features, The camera has a video output that can perform a slide show in PAL or NTSC formats, and uses SD/MMC flash memory. This contrasts with other less than 100£ cameras that need the batteries to maintain the photos. The movie mode is also a quite nice feature even without sound. And best of all the Camera does not require any drivers for a Mac using OS-X. One other note, the lens displays no noticeable barrel, or pincushion effects and no noticeable unsharp areas along the edges of the images. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Oregon Scientific's WR-196T radio receives all seven NOAA Weather Radio channels and can be programmed to display only warnings and alerts that occur in your local area. The radio continuously receives broadcasts and sounds the radio speaker whenever an alert comes through so you can be sure to be on top of the latest weather news. It folds easily for compact placement on any desktop.

The WR-196T uses Specific Area Messaging Encoding (SAME) technology, giving you the option of screening out unwanted broadcasts and receiving alerts only for the geographical areas you program (up to six counties of your choice). It also receives National Weather Service broadcasts and alerts vital to survival in the aftermath of earthquakes, storms, floods, explosions, radiation emergencies, toxic chemical spills, and other life-threatening disasters.

The LCD's backlit display assures the best readability. This radio also doubles as a digital alarm clock with snooze feature and AM/FM radio with 10 presets. The WR-196T runs on three AA batteries (not included) or on an included AC power adapter. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Radio
I bought one for my brother a year ago. Works great. Only alerts you to weather in your area because you tell it what area you live in by area number. I plan to buy one for my sister this year. (...) WR196T replaced (the earlier recalled version) WR122.

5-0 out of 5 stars So far, so good!
Bought this radio after a tornado watch made me realize we had no overnight way to be notified of dangerous weather. So far it works great, but I have only had it going for a week. You just put it on NOAA standby mode and it activates automatically when it receives a severe weather alert. A long LCD bar blinks green every 2 or 3 seconds when there are no alerts, then it blinks red the entire time a weather alert is active. With the SAME technology you can program specific county codes and only receive alerts from those areas ...

Pros: Small size lets it fit on my bedside table. Sleek look. Displays date/time/inside temp./weather warning messages. Was able to program only nearby county codes so we only receive warnings in our area. So far we have had two different days of bad weather and the radio worked as advertised. I can't comment on the strength of long range NWS radio reception since the NWS radio station is in my city. But it picks the signal up great. It can also be used as a clock radio alarm. The FM reception is good and you can preset stations.

Cons: The backlight is good but can only be on for 10 seconds at a time when you hit a button. Since I'm using it as a clock radio it would have been nice to have an option for at least a dim backlight on all through the night to see the time. The instructions were slightly less than user friendly. It was not clearly spelled out how to set the radio to NOT receive ALL the nearby county alerts, but I figured it out: you hit the county button, and when it displays county zero you hit the alarm on/off button to blank it out. If you want to wake up to radio on the alarm you can't use the snooze feature - as far as I can tell the radio comes on in sleep mode (60 minutes) and ignores the snooze button. I have to use the alarm to use snooze.

Overall I would recommend this weather radio, but cannot provide long term feedback on it yet.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hard to Program
This product has the most difficult programming instructions I have ever seen. Even changing the clock time (which you have to do 2X per year) proves to be a major challenge requiring the manual. The manual also must have been translated from Chinese as it is also difficult to understand...even for someone like myself with a technical degree! I tossed the product out after 6 months.

1-0 out of 5 stars Looks good, works cheap
Sorry everyone, I really wanted to rate this high, ... It came with no antenna, standard. Without an antenna, it picks up few neighboring countie warnings, and lousy radio reception. The radio stinks, sounds cheap, like a ... 4 transistor I had 40 yrs ago. Hard to program (I work with computers), hard to operate. The alarm works half the time, probably due to no antenna. Save your money.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disapointed
I purchased this product right before spring because of severe weather. It worked OK for about a month and then it no longer would give warnings.
I reprogrammed it and it didn`t help. I e-mailed Oregon Scientific and I got an E-Mail back asking for my imformation and they would give me an address to send it to for testing. Never heard from them again.
I then purchased a Midland 74-200 which was cheaper and works great, was easier to program and came with a full year warranty oppossed to so called 90 day from the Oregon Scientific.
Don`t Buy This Product. As I was you`ll regret it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great gift! Innovation and Quality
I've been looking for a unique gift for my father-in-law who has everything and this photo frame with indoor/outdoor temperature was perfect. The remote sensor works up to 100 feet and goes through wood/brick/stone/everything! The clock is an atomic clock which automatically sets itself to a signal broadcast from Colorado that is always accurate. Finally, the frame comes with two faceplates grey and blue that are easy to change and fit well into any room. I liked it so much that I bought another one for myself. ... Read more

This camera was perfect for me. It was very easy to carry around and it took great photos. I suggest it for just about anybody. The camera had only a slight problem with charging the battery but I got past this easily, and it did not affect my satisfaction with the camera.

1-0 out of 5 stars Another One w/ a Dead Battery
I had to write in and share my displeasure at this product as well. Like the other reviewers, I also received my watch with a dead battery and had to pay an additional $5 dollars to get the thing to even work. Additionally, changing the battery is a wicked chore since you have to take the entire watch almost completely apart. The instruction manual is VERY difficult to understand! I'm currently shopping for a heart rate monitor for my wife and this time I must say that I will definately choose the POLAR product instead.

4-0 out of 5 stars Oregon Scientific HR318 Trainer Pro Heart Rate Monitor
The name of this item SHOULD give it's purpose away. It TRAINS you to lower and RAISE your heart rate artificially by such means as modern "must haves" like a HRM. that just don't work well. And come with lousy instructions. And battery with no shelf life
By the way, DESPITE it's shortcomings, this item is very accurate. The lady next door pointed out to me when she saw my Oregon Scientific HR318 Trainer Pro Heart Rate Monitor on my wrist that when the screen goes blank, you have actually EXPIRED. At least the paramedics pointed that out to be the case with her husband who had a major coronary. I'm just pointing out the accuracy of the item not a cause and effect.
I'm no M'cedes owner but doesn't the 500 series come with a HRM's for the whole family as standard equipment?
I can't believe how fickled this audience is. I have reported the same problems as other reported and it seems I'm being chastised for it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Run like an Egyptian
This HRM is a complete waste of money... well, unless you're educated in deciphering hieroglyphics and don't mind buying previously opened products. The instruction manual is a joke (hence the comment), the included batteries are dead (another $5 purchase just to get it to work), and getting everything set up requires the intuitive guile of MacGyver- not to mention tools found only at a watch repair shop (you need to remove the wrist bands to get to the battery).
Right now Amazon is having a special on the Polar M71ti- which has a few less features and a more advanced fitness purpose, but comes from a more respected company. Think about it this way, a Yugo and a Mercedes are both cars, but which one would you rather go the distance with?
And now the Mercedes is now on sale for roughly the same price as that iniquitous econobox (about $10 more because of CA sales tax); not to mention that this Oregon Scientific model resembles something out of a Yugoslavian industrial design center.
Go with the Polar, and as a bonus, it looks great- just like you will after a few months of using it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Update after 2 months
Update: Don't Buy This Item. I just had to come back and update my review. I've been using this monitor for 2 months and last night the display kept blanking out. The useless manual indicates that when the battery is getting low you get a warning. I received no warning. I called the Oregon help desk and they siad "change the battery". As noted by the other reviewer changing the battery requires removing the band (which isn't easy, and harder to replace). Now my display works but 2 of the buttons don't and I can't change the time !!!

I just received my monitor. The user documentation is extremely poor. The manual has very small print and not written very well. You have to continually flip back and forth as all of the figures are in the front part of the manual. I also had a heck of time trying to figure out how to get the monitor to start showing my pulse. In theory when the little heart shows up on the display you should be able to see your rate. Note...it doesn't always seem to show up nor have I figured out why. It would be nice if the manual gave you an indication of what to expect. For example it will show 68 beats, I'll stand up and it can go up to 80 or higher (and I work out every day, including aerobics). The rate seems to bounce around alot. I did compare the values with against another device I have and they did match. Also the old take your own pulse for 10 secs and multiply collaborates pretty closely. I was just surprised at how much it varies literally within seconds. ... Read more
