5-0 out of 5 stars Amazon is the best!
I strongly recommend this display. NEC makes wonderful displays, and this one is worth every penny. The price Amazon gave me was very competitive, and I had already checked out 5 other online stores. The screen is extremely reflection-free due to the 100% flat screen and proprietory glass screen treatment. That means no reflection from surrounding/overhead lights - and thats a good thing for designers who work with color. The dot pitch is .25, big-assed resolutions with my nVidia 64MB card, so you get very sharp images. Refresh rates are great, and I dont feel fatigue in the eyes even after working long hours on it.
Its not a very "cool" cabinet, but isnt bad either. Its a heavy monster weighing in at 50 lbs, but has a petite footprint. It even has sRGB support, not to mention all the regular featuers such as on-screen controls. The package didnt have a driver CD, but downloading one from the internet was a breeze (nec.com). I use this with Dell, XP and it works great.
Now for the best part. Ordering through Amazon.com was a dream. The site is great, and addressed all my questions from the very start. Customer Services is absolutely incredible, they won my heart. They are most courteous and professional people to do business with. I strongly recommend you buy from Amazon. I know I always will.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth Every Penny
The NEC MultiSync FE950+ has a beautiful display and text at higher resolutions is very crisp and clear. At higher resolutions, the text grows fuzzy at 85Hz, but clears up at 75Hz. This monitor is fantastic for gamers as it increased my 3DMark2001 Benchmark Test score by over 100 points. Whether used for games, movies, or just regular computing, this monitor provides an excellent, crisp, display for almost any user.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the very best...
The NEC FE950+BLK is a striking addition to any desktop's decor, having a small footprint for such a large picture, and the black case... mmm. Beyond the aesthetic appeal of the case and slim, ergonomic design there are details like the cables in the rear (being installed vertically) which save a couple of inches of space behind the monitor... and keep cables from being smashed against a wall, etc.
OK. The picture. Wow, what a picture it is. Crisp, clear, bright, and very nice contrast. THIS is why people seek after flat screen monitors. The colors on-screen are some of the nicest I have seen, being true-to-life colors, which is important to me as a designer. This monitor will push higher resolutions than most in it's class, and it does so with ease. Viewing for hours on end is easy on the eyes, too. What a pleasure.
There are two extremely faint lines on the screen (I dare you to look) from the support wires for the aperture grill that are barely visible. IF you notice these, you can easily get used to, and forget all about them. They certainly are not a distraction and as I mentioned, are barely visible.
This is a keeper. All in all, I am very impressed - and this after trying several monitors first. My wife's NEC FE950 is what turned me on to this one. A nice little investment that I can only think of replacing one day in the future with the NEC 1250+BK, the 21" big brother to the FE950.
Highly Recommended. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

If your desktop is prime real estate but your work is graphicsintensive, the NEC/Mitsubishi 1530V's tiny footprint, rich color, and brightpicture provide a solution to both issues. The 200:1 high-contrast display with1,024 x 768 resolution and 0.3-millimeter dot pitch combine to produce beautifulimages, all from a very compact package.

Weighing only 10.4 pounds and sporting a screen that's less than 3 inches thick, the monitor is so thin and light that, taking it out of the box, we had aninstinctive reaction of "this can't be high quality--it's too light!" However,we soon changed our mind. Setup was a snap, and the No-Touch Auto Adjustingtechnology adjusted many display settings for us from the very first use toefficiently use every pixel of space on the screen. Having tested many monitorsbefore, we're wary of automatic setup functions, as they often don't work aswell as promised. But the first time we turned on the 1530V, it had idealsettings for our test PC.

In our tests, the 1530V's 1,024 x 768 resolution, 0.3-millimeter dot pitch, anda 200:1 contrast ratio provided remarkably crisp images. (Although you can usethe monitor at a 640 x 480 resolution, 1,024 x 768 is optimal and recommended.)Text that was small and light against a dark background did suffer from slightshadowing, but the effect was negligible. The color was astounding: rich, fullysaturated hues across the rainbow, producing vibrant greens and warm skin tones. The monitor handled graphics-intensive applications with ease: we loaded testimages into Photoshop, watched streaming media videos, and tested animationprograms. We never caught a single flicker. And when we ran a program that wouldbenefit from reducing the contrast, the onscreen controls were readilyaccessible and completely intuitive. Also, the monitor's base, which is justover 6 inches deep by 10 inches wide, kept the monitor stable even when thescreen was tilted to extreme angles.

Meeting VESA standards, the 1530V is wall and arm mountable for commercial use,and the power and PC cords plug in beneath a removable casing, keeping yourdesktop (or wall space) tidy. The 1530V is compatible with PCs and Macs as wellas Sun, Silicon Graphics, and other workstations and X-terminals. The three-yearwarranty includes parts (even the backlight) and labor. --Ariel MeadowStallings

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional flat panel value
The moment I fired up this replacement monitor for my home system I swore that I would never purchase another CRT. Although being tied to the "optimum" resolution of 1024 X 768 is restrictive, everything looks so good that I don't mind. I've paired the unit with two high-end video adapters; 3Dfx VooDoo 5 5500 and NVidia GeForce3. In each case, the only quality degradation comes from blocky dark colors during DVD playback via WinDVD. The screen looks beautiful with Windows XP and quite attractive on Windows 2000. Video games look fantastic, but must be played at 1024 X 768 to not appear distorted.

I purchased this model primarily because of its price. The unit's design, size, and the inclusion of the power trasformer in the casing were all contributing factors. I'm also very pleased with the brightness of the diplay, even with ambient room light.

I would suggest downloading the INF and color correction files from NEC for the monitor from http://support.necmitsubishi.com/software.htm. This will replace "Plug and Play Monitor" with the monitor's actual name in the control panel in Windows 9x/Me/2000/XP. It will also limit the possible resolutions and refresh rates.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good value in an LCD display
I think this display is great. It's got great image quality, great contrast, a wide viewing angle, low latency and a small footprint. I've had mine for a month now and I have not seen one flicker.

Setup was a breeze on my PC. I just plugged it in and it worked. No special drivers, hardware or other setup nonsense was necessary on my system. It quite simply worked out of the box. Of course, your mileage may vary.

I think this monitor has got all the advantages of an LCD monitor -- with none of the disadvantages. This is a quality display from a quality manufacturer. And this quality is evident as soon as you lift it out of the box. The quality continues as you hook it up and turn it on. In fact, everyone who has seen this monitor work on my PC has mentioned how nice it is. I have to agree. I'm very happy with it.

If you are looking for an entry-level LCD but don't want to skimp on features or quality, I think you will be happy with this monitor, too. It's not the least expensive LCD you can buy -- nor is it the most expensive. But, in my opinion, it's a good value.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best monitor I've ever owned.
I endlessly researched LCD computer monitors before I purchased this and the research paid off... big time. My friends and family are amazed at the sleakness (I ordered the black version) and the picture quality of this monitor. Additionally, believe it or not, this monitor appreciated from the time I purchased it on AMZN, imagine that! It's expecially great in a dorm/apartment setting.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's time for an LCD monitor!
The time has arrived for LCD monitors. The price is now right and the quality is definitely up there. I have been quite pleased with this monitor. I carefully compared it with others in the store and was impressed by the sharpness of display and the vivid colors. When I got it home I was delighted with the DVD experience this monitor provides - quite a bit like 3D! Of course, like all LCDs, this one is amazingly lightweight and it takes up such a small amount of desk space. Over the next couple of years I expect LCDs to largely supplant CRTs in the home. I give this product four stars, reserving five stars for the much more expensive units.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent 15" LCD Flat Panel Monitor
After my old 15" CRT monitor went dead, and after reading all the reviews from this website, I was convinced to go out and get a LCD flat panel monitor. I did some serious research to find out which monitor was better between this one and the Envision 15" LCD monitor. So I went out and got the NEC MultiSync LCD 1530v. I was very impressed on how quick and easy it was to set it up. The "auto adjust" feature tuned in my monitor correctly the first time. My wife and I have played many video games with this monitor without any problems! When playing a DVD, the picture is crisp and clear with no signs of distortion. The colors on this monitor are absolutely amazing! My wife who uses the computer as much as I do also gives this monitor 5 stars for the reason that it does not hurt her eyes. For those of you whose eyes have low tolerance to glare, you don't have to worry about that. The monitor works best at a resolution of 1024x768. My system is an AMD K6-2 550MHz processor, Windows XP operating system, and ATI Radeon 7200 video card. I've had this monitor for 3 months now. I must say that it was the BEST purchase I've made!

If you're looking for an LCD flat panel monitor and can't afford to spend much money, then this monitor is for you. The viewing size of this monitor is 15.1", the same size of a 17" CRT monitor. With all the features and advantages that comes with this monitor, it's worth the spending. So go out and get one while they're hot! I give this LCD monitor my highest recommendations! ... Amazon.com Review

The NEC LCD1525V 15-inch flat-panel monitor is a straightforward analogTFT active-matrix LCD unencumbered by superfluous features that you may neverneed. The tilt/swivel base affixed to the bottom of the monitor has a smallfootprint, which is a great benefit when you have a desk full of equipment, andthe monitor is lightweight enough (only 13 pounds) to push around as needed.

Installation is a simple as it should be for an entry-level unit. Slide theLCD1525V out of the box and you'll be up and running in five minutes or less. The onscreen management controls (in other words, buttons) on the front let youalter brightness or contrast and adjust the horizontal size or position of theimage. We took all the adjustments to the extreme and were satisfied with thescreen's performance. Further options allow you to correct any geometricdistortion and the color percentages. A recall button quickly returns whateverchanges were made back to the company's default settings, which we foundactually were the best for regular usage.

The operating manual is brief yet complete. The simple line drawings readilyidentify and illustrate setup and features. In addition, the troubleshootingguide is an easy-to-read chart that should solve most common predicaments. TheNEC LCD1525V is PC ready for Windows 95 or 98 and Macintosh compatible with thepurchase of a separate adapter. --Barbara Price ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars died in 3 months - not great pic
I've had only NEC's for over 10 years. My last 2 CRT's suffered severe distortion within the first year. Replaced by NEC, the same thing happened with the reconditioned they gave me in return. Went to this LCD 3 months ago, and while the pic quality wasn't the best, I still hung on to the NEC quality of old. Well, this one has died too! I have now given up on NEC. It might just be bad luck, but so many performance issues has made me wary.

4-0 out of 5 stars Looks good to me
The guy that wrote the review below must of had a lemon because I think the monitor is fine. Of course there are better LCD's out there but for most people this is a great value for the price and I would recommend it to anyone. Before I bought it I looked at many different LCDs in computer stores and made my decision that way. I have even been running Win98 + Mandrake Linux and the monitor was very clear and flicker free and did not pose any installation issues.

2-0 out of 5 stars Big disappointment
Picture quality was poor, the fonts were less readable than on our old monitors. I don't think it was the fault of the video cards, my monitor had higher resolution previously. Also, installation was difficult (had to download drivers from the NEC site) and de-installation (under Windows98) was disastrous; an inexperienced user would have needed tech support to restore the system.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect
The tilt/swivel base is almost too small for the panel. When the panel is tilted beyond a certain point. the base starts to become unstable. Color is superb. Very easy to set up. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice projector, average sound and bad remote
I have been using this projector for 3 months. I tested it for both home theater and business presentations. The image is great, very clear and bright, even at 20ft from the screen, when it's 8 ft wide! The zoom and keystone correction allow for perfect adjustments.
The built in speaker is average, barely good enough for business presentations. For home theater, of course you want to use your surround sound so it doesn't matter much. The most aggravating part is the remote buttons: they are very mushy, with no real feeling to know if you are pressing them or not... Because of that, moving through the menus can be really cumbersome as you keep going too far and have to back up. I end up using the buttons on the projector itself, because it makes it much quicker than trying to control the pressure on the 4 directions arrow button! For home theater, it's ok because you only turn the projector on and off once it's installed, but when you have a presentation with customers, it can get really embarrassing...
Overall a very nice projector, but please give us a good old traditional remote, rather than this fancy, futuristic and unusable one! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars NEC MultiSync LCD 1525M
The NEC MultiSync LCD 1525M monitor has excellent color and runs on low voltage making it far more cost effective and it saves your eyes, much easier to look at, while doing long periods of computer work. It was very easy to install and came with instructions for various hook-up formats.

I'm very pleased with my NEC MultiSync moniter. LCD is the way to go if you can afford it... as the prices go down and the availability of LCD becomes the standard, it will become the only way to view your computer. The NEC has a very small footprint and the weight is a lot less than the CRT.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great Contrast, Small Footprint, Poor Color

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't believe your eyes
Just a week ago I read a polarized reviews of this monitor asking myself which opinion to believe. At the end I was stupid enough to make a decision based on the professional look and average high marks. It was a mistake. The screen is realy bad.

I used to order computer hardware for the company I worked in and saw lots of good and bad CRTs. This one looks like a cheep "Business" series of other brands. Terrible moire on the left curable only by 100% h-moire correction, which on the other hand makes it a bit blurry. It looks like you can actualy see the crt mask. Every line is comletely separate. Every black dot has a colored side shades.

Don't beleave your eyes. This screen looks very professional but it's not.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Sharp Looking Monitor.
I bought this monitor partly based on the first review by jce1975. Shipping was awesome, I ordered it at noon on tuesday and received it at 5:15pm on Thursday. Two days! This is a good looking monitor, Black with a very small techno case. Well built too. It is much more compact than the other 19 inch Envision crt that I own. It goes perfect on my desk with my black dell dimension, black keyboard and speakers. I replaced the refurbished 17 inch (E171FPb) LCD flat panel I got from dell that had lousy resolution. Set up was a breeze because I had downloaded the drivers and naviset utility from the NEC site which does not come with the monitor. The only complaint I have is that the shadow mask holes are a bit larger than my Envision and make the picture a bit more grainy than the Envision. However the colors and the color separation are spectacular and superior to the Envision. The picture fills the entire screen is very square and flat and needed almost no adjustment out of the box. The naviset utility is the best I've seen for monitor adjustment.

2-0 out of 5 stars Surprise disappointment from NEC
I purchased this monitor in December 2002, and by December 2003 the picture had turned green. Since that time the color has been on and off. Prior to this failure the color has always been beautiful, but I had hoped it would last longer than a year. I have been working with NEC to get a replacement, but in the end I will have to pay to ship the old monitor back, and they will only give me a refurb to replace my failed monitor. Not sure what to recommend instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dream come true!
I had a 17" sony before this and I cant believe my eyes this monitor is fantastic! I tweaked the settings to adjust the screen size (which by the way was very easy to do) and I am just blown away by the picture Im getting. Super sharp text, deep rich color. This is one well made monitor!

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent Value
This monitor seems to be working fine for my G-4 PowerMac. It needed quite a bit of tweaking out of the box but has since performed very nicely.

Good refresh rates (I'm working at 100mhz mostly because I can and because its easier on the eyes) and nice deep colors are the strong points for this monitor (along with the price). On the down side, the aperture grill is a bit more noticeable with this monitor than I'm used to. For high-end graphic designers and hardcore gamers you may want to look into other options. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Big clear screen
Great monitor! The flat screen seems to reduce glare and makes the monitor a pleasure to view. The size eliminates the need for a second monitor. I watch TV on one corner as I view my documents on the other side of the screen. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent value for the money
Pros
1) This monitor is very well designed. Its stand is flat and doesn't need to much room, the case is stable.
2) The workmanship is excellent. The whole monitor module is wrapped within a metal cage. It also hosts the switching power supply (which is the cause of the 'noise' the monitor produces). It seems (and NEC's product summary implies it) that the monitor's application includes also production facilites - that might be the reason for the extraordinary robustness of this model.
3) The picture quality is very good. It achieves sRGB color. You will recognize it when you watch a DVD and compare the picture's quality with your notebooks monitor (Notebooks usually don't support sRGB, except high priced models). It also allows wide viewing angles of 160 degrees. The brighntess and contrast ratio spec is bove average for such a large LCD panel.

Cons
1) The unit excepts analog signals only. Therefore a D/A conversion of the video signal in your VGA adapter must be reversed by a A/D conversion within your monitor. Each conversion adds noise to the signale and the A/D process underlies digitization errors. In the contrary a digital input like DVI obviates this process. However, not every VGA adapter supports DVI and for backward compatibility it makes sense to provide a anlaog VGA input only. The bottomline is - you wont recognize the D/A - A/D conversion at all. But be sure to run the unit with a refresh rate no higher than 60 Hertz.

Note
For all those of you who hear grass growing: The monitors 'noise' is caused by the switching power supply which is included in the monitor's unit. But be reasonable with the comments made - you will only recognize a tone of constant frequency when every device (including your computer's main unit) is switched off. If it is boring you, simply switch the monitor off. It's like audio stream bandwidth reduction: when listing to a song of a certain sound level (POP will do it), your ear wont be able to recognize a falling needle on a glassplate. That is exactly what audio compressors do - with algorithms like MP3, WMA or Sonys minidisc compression. And that is also the case when you have at least one device with a fan running...

Summary
Great product, I enjoy it since October 2001.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product - More LCD for your money
I have been using a Sony 20" CRT for a few years. This is an excellent replacement in many ways:

Display Quality: Since the LCD is pefectly flat, the 18" display area is not much of a compromise from my CRT's 19" viewable area. At 1280 x 1024 (which is recommended by NEC as optimal), you can pack a lot of stuff on the screen, yet text stays sharp and images are vivid. Also this LCD is very bright. Compare to my CRT, the NEC LCD causes less eye strain after long viewing hours.

Physical Aspects: This is a well-built monitor but the greatest thing about LCD, which I am sure all Flat panel users know already, is the tremendous saving on your desktop space, especially when you switch from a 20" monster.

Price: There is more LCD for the money with this 18" monitor in my opinion.

I've read about the "noise" issue from other reviews but I have not experienced any at all. It is cool that this monitor has 2 analog VGA inputs, but I'd rather see a digital input instead.

This is truly an excellent product and I really enjoy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb large screen area. For the price you can t beat it.
You get vibrant color, excellent color saturation. I use it a lot to make adjustment to scanned pictures and photography. Extremely detailled, very fast as well. My son once tried it with a Star War game and I was astonished by the 3D and the rapidity of that screen... NEC support service is excellent: I had a defective unit (basically the colors were not right) and without any question, they send me a new unit!

2-0 out of 5 stars Quality control?
I was very happy to find an 18' LCD from NEC. After all I thought NEC is a good name.
I was a little bit disappointed during the setup. I only got a decent picture adjusting it manually. I never had to do that with other brands.
But in summary the picture was good for the price.
But the problems started after around 6 months. The backlight went out. Called tech support. They sent me out a replacement (refurbished unit). TO my surprise it was a defective unit. I had to repeat this 2 more times and still don't have a working unit. I'm waiting for the 4th.

2-0 out of 5 stars nice monitor... poor quality
These monitors looked like a great buy for the price. I figured NEC would be a good safe brand. I bought 8 of them in Dec 2001 and just had a 3rd one go bad as of today. Now NEC says they have a ... backlog on sending out a replacement monitor and the best option is to send it in for repair (about 2 weeks). At least they have a 3 year warranty. I ended up buying a 9th monitor as a spare but now I have two in the shop :( Oh ya, everytime one goes bad it costs me [money] in shipping. ... Read more
