Amazon.com Review

The NEC MultiSync FE1250 is a 22-inch monitor well suited to small andhome office users working with graphics and reading lots of text onscreen. It isan excellent investment for power users of all stripes.

The FE1250 featuresNEC's totally flat aperture grille technology that delivers crisp, undistortedimages that closely match the look of a printed page. This design prohibitsdistortion around the edges of the screen while maintaining superb brightness.Although the CRT size is 22 inches, there are 20 inches of viewable screen realestate--still plenty for working with 1,024 x 768 and even 1,280 x 1,024resolutions. While the manufacturer recommends a 1,600 x 1,200 resolution, wefound that a bit unusable except for working with large graphic images.

Withdimensions of 19.7 by 19 by 18.6 inches, and weighing 70 pounds, this unitrequires some space, but sports a streamlined front face. The buttonscontrolling the onscreen display are right out front, along with a lightedMultiSync logo that turns green when the monitor receives a signal. Theconfiguration menus are quite comprehensive and provide five preset profiles andone custom RGB profile, image alignment (including rotate), and convergencesettings.

The variable 0.25-to-0.27-millimeter grille pitch, coupled with highrefresh rates at the common resolutions, produced a vivid and consistent imagefor us during our testing. We were able to run at 85 Hz in both 1,024 x 768 and1,280 x 1,024 resolutions, though the latter mode was a bit too blurry to usecomfortably. True to the company's claim, however, the corners of the displayremained undistorted compared to the remainder of the screen.

The MultiSyncFE1250 is a solid performer that sports just the right size screen forcomfortable, productive work. It's a great choice for users who live in wordprocessors or Web browsers. --Stephen W. Plain

2-0 out of 5 stars Looks nice, but...
My monitor is now a year old. The color is fantastic, the SuperBrite function is great for gaming. But the monitor is starting to fail at just one year of age. I notice there is another reviewer with the same "screen-blink" issue after about a year. The 3-year warranty might sound nice, until you read the fine print where you have to pay to ship the monitor to NEC--Mitsubishi, and pay for the return shipping. That is a lot of money for shipping on a monitor that might only last another year.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good monitor until it gets some age on it
My monitor worked great until it got about 18 months old. It then started flicker and distort just like some other people have stated in other reviews. I'm going to buy a different brand to replace it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing
I'm shocked to read all the reviews complaining of the flicker problem. I absolutely loved this monitor until, after 15 months or so, I started getting awfull flickering/distortion. I guess I understand why the warranty ends after one year. I will not buy another NEC monitor.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good for a year
I had this monitor for about a year (actually, the first one). It was perfect for daily use. However, it started to flicker right after that. Called the customer service and was told there were three options to get the service of warranty. I chose the one that I could keep having a monitor to use, i.e., they sent me a remanufactured one for free and then I sent mine back to their service center at my costs (30 bucks!!!). I did received the replacement quickly, but it was a real "remanufactured" monitor, dirty screen and flickered a few times a day. Anyway, I decided to keep it as it worked o.k. most of the time. Well, guess what? After about 9 months of moderate use, the second one started to flicker badly again as the first one. The worst thing is that I can not replace it any more because a new warranty that came with the second one says that the warranty period was changed from three years to one year from the purchasing date (that was almost two years ago). It is really a ridiculous policy.

So my recommendation is that this is the right monitor for you if you plan to replace your computer every year, otherwise, stay away from it. My experience, as well as those of other reviewers, does suggest that there is a quality problem with this product.

2-0 out of 5 stars Flicker-Free?: I don't think so ...
My NEC FE991SB-BK 19" CRT Monitor right out of the box had two very visible horizontal gray lines that I have not been able to get rid of. After a year and half it has begun to flicker and distort severely.

I hate it and regret buying it. I will think twice about buying NEC again... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I love mine!
First off, why in the heck would you want to run at those lower resolutions with a 19? I bought mine so i can take advantage of the higher res.

Here is some common sense logic for you, if you want to run those lower res, why dont you buy a Packard Bell 15 inch and save $$???

5-0 out of 5 stars NEC Multisync FP950 Professional Series 19" Monitor
I have performed an exhaustive search for the ultimate 19" computer monitor. Being a perfectionist, I wanted the best monitor available at a reasonable price that included style, high quality color picture, sharp focus and brightness, complete and easy-to-use picture adjustments, totally flat screen and minimal cabinetry surrounding the cathode ray picture tube to give the appearance of a larger screen without the annoying distraction of an oversized cabinet. Since, it seemed that all of the monitors examined had at least some flaws noted in the reviews, I was pleasantly surprised that they were minor and basically unfounded in this particular NEC monitor. I am totally satisfied with it's performance and it's exceptional style. I already had the NEC Multisync FE700 17" monitor which I equally treasure. There is no other like NEC!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Monitor
This is a great monitor. The lines are sharp and text is very clear. The screen controls are outstanding - supporting a number of adjustments to ensure the display is positioned and sized correctly at various resolutions. Glare is much less than it was with my older Dell 17" Trinitron monitor (it being a flat screen with anti-glare coating as well). The cabinet is stylish and compact - fitting in about the same space as the Dell 17" Trinitron monitor it replaced.

Large monitors are designed to give you greater desktop real estate yet display images and text at about the same size as you would typically see on a smaller monitor running at lower resolutions (640x480, 800x600). Just as smaller monitors (15 and 17") are not optimized for higher resolutions (1152x864 and up), larger monitors are not optimized to run at lower resolutions. This isn't isolated to NEC monitors. I've used large monitors from many vendors and they all struggle to display lower resolutions as clearly as they do at resolutions they were design for. However, I wouldn't say it's so bad that you cannot bear to run at the lower resolutions.

If you intend to run at the lower resolutions with a 19 or 21 inch monitor, I would suggest you go test drive a few large monitors at your local retailer just to make sure the clarity is what you expected.

5-0 out of 5 stars NEC always makes it!
Firstly, I must state that I think the same with Smiff Desine. The idea of seeing blur letters is completely a rubbish, that monitor is designed especially for CAD\CAM users. Everybody should be knowing this! So you won't work in lower resolutions like 800x600 in any case, by the way let me remind that's a 19" monitor! That NEC FP950 really rocks when you set it to 1024x768 or over. Sharp colours, fast horizontal and vertical refresh, a tube using GRILLPITCH technology, being able to absorb %90 of light etc. and also being a NEC makes this beast THE BEST selection! - especially for people studying engineering like me in my opinion - . Trust me, it's not a waste of money and the technical support is well enough at least to take care of you. Why thinking still?

5-0 out of 5 stars NEC FP950 19" CRT Monitor
Before we go anyfurther, ignore the last review concerning blurred letters -just take any picture on your computer and enlarge it to 200% and you'll get the idea. Anyway, as an engineering design professional I've found this monitor a delight, it will display higher resolutions at a higher refresh rate than any other 19" monitor, the first thing you'll notice how vibrantly it displays colours and if you set your display to an appropriate resolution ie. not <1280x960 (you don't run a monitor of this size @800x600) you'll be rewarded with incredibly sharp and detailed images. The FP950 also has a suprisingly small footprint considering it's got the flatest display I've ever seen. As far as customer service in the US goes I can't comment, as I bought this monitor in the UK but the 3 year OS warranty certainly provides peace of mind. So if your after a 19" monitor and you're applications demand such performance, it's money well spent. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars 20" Viewable Monitor not 22"
I thought I was getting a 22". It is only 20" viewable, they all are regardless of brand. I hope the monitor does not break down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very nice!
I'm impressed. Compared to my old 21" monitor, the Diamond Plus 200 takes up less space, has a larger viewable area, and gives a much crisper image. The difference is immediately apparent. Let's give some measurements: The old one took up 20.25" front to back. This one takes up about 18.5" front to back. Screen size on the old monitor: 14.5" x 11.5". Screen size on the Diamond Plus 200: 16.25" x 12.25". Nice! My screen resolution is at 1600x1200, and the fonts look just as big as they did on 1280x1024 before. If I want to go with small fonts, this monitor goes up to 1920x1440, and things are still readable! In summary, I highly recommend this monitor.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best CRT I've ever used
There are a few reasons why the Diamond Plus 22" stands out from other large monitors. First, many large monitors are deeper than the diagonal view space. Not so with this monitor. Viewable area measures about 20" and depth measures around 19". I am replacing a Gateway packaged 19 inch monitor and am pleasantly surprised to find that this monitor is much shallower than the 19" while providing much more vieable area. Second, as monitors get larger, many manufacturors tend to curve the screen out to save on costs. The Diamond Plus's screen is absolutely flat, and because of this offers unprecedented picture quality.

A few nice features: Mitsubishi includes a 3 port USB hub in the back of the monitor, cleaning up the mess of cables from the back of your computer. Also, while I don't currently use the feature, Mitsubishi included the ability to plug a second CPU into the same monitor and switch via a button on the front of the monitor. These little additions make spending the extra dollars worth it for a wonderful monitor. ... Read more

Energy Star certified, the V50LCD is plug-an-play ready to use right out of the box. It weighs just 6.6 pounds (5.7 pounds without the base). It accepts analog input signals (0.7 Vp-p/75 Ohms positives) and connects to your computer via a standard 15-pin mini D-sub cable. The AC 100-120/220-240 V power supply consumes just 22 W during normal operation (typical) and less than 2 W on standby. 5-0 out of 5 stars Sleek and Sophisticated
I never thought the monitor mattered much, but when I needed to fit my computer onto a tiny desktop in my kitchen a flat LCD monitor became a necessity. The Mitsubishi Diamond Point V50LCD is not only appealing to look at when off but offers brighter screen images than any previous screen I owned. It is simple to set up, takes almost no space and can in fact be mounted on the wall-something I am considering. The colors are brighter and truer than I thought possible. This is well worth the money, especially if space is an issue. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome - don't use portrait mode
Great great great monitor. My only complaint is that portrait mode is software driven. I have a 1Ghz PC and it can't keep up with portrait mode, things are slow to refresh. In landscape mode this monitor is amazing. I still can't believe how happy I am with it day after day and this is after owning it for 9 months.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good enough for near diagnostic digital X-Ray viewing!
I've worked with this monitor at work to view Digital X-rays, and it's GREAT! I know it's apples and oranges when comparing HI-RES Digital X-Ray monitors ($20K each) to LCD's, but I think that they did an AWESOME job with this monitor. I'm gonna pick one up this week!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Monitor
Got this to replace a 17" Apple LCD Studio Display and it is nice. I somewhat prefer the look of the apple display, but this thing has dual inputs. So I can hook two computers up at the same time and switch between them with the click of a button. This feature alone would have cost me a ton with the apple monitor to get a DVI switch.

Very nice picture, great auto adjustment features, and the ability to wall mount it is just plain cool.

Would have given it 5 out of 5 except for my one dead pixel. In defense the apple monitor had a dead line, was returned, and the replacement also had one dead pixel. It is very annoying, but something you have to live with in the lcd world.

5-0 out of 5 stars Crystal Clear from either Digital or Analog DVI Input
This is a fantastic monitor!

It features both digital and analog inputs allowing you to use it with VGA or DVI-D outputs. You can use both at the same time and switch between them - great for sharing the monitor between a desktop and laptop.

The ultra-thin frame makes it perfect for multi-displays as well.

Web pages, Word/PDF documents are fantastic when the monitor is pivoted 90 degrees - you get a full page of readable text on a single screen - you'll never go back after tilting!

I've used the panel via ATI RAGE (VGA), nVidia Quadro4 (DVI), and an IBM StinkPad 600E (VGA) and all are excellent. Now I just need to get another pair of these to complete the ultimate productivity desktop!

...Highly recommended. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Professional Monitor
This is one of the best CRT monitors. The cabinet is 22", but the actual viewing capacity is 20". Contrary to what people are made to believe, CRT monitors run circles around LCD. Any gamer and graphic designer will know why. LCDs are too slow for intense gaming and incapable of true color calibration. Plus, there are no bad pixels to contend with.

This monitor is by Nec (Nec-Mitsubishi). Mitsubishi has the exact product under the model, Diamond Pro 2070SB. Get any. Their top of the line for graphic artists is the same monitor, it includes the additional SpectraView (color calibration) that you can purchase separately should you some day need.

The features include a SuperBright Diamondtron function that you enable on the front panel. It boosts the brightness function - handy especially when watching videos. What it does is the Brightness Controller software that you install will dim the background and boost the video in the foreground.

Another feature is the OSM (On-screen Management) that allows you to adjust all aspects of the monitor on-screen. This feature works best when you install the Naviset software. Attach the included USB cable from the monitor to a free USB slot in your computer so you can control the settings with your mouse and keyboard.

So why only 4 stars with all these features? First, all the features explained above is not included in the box. The professional and convenient features is accessible only by manually downloading the drivers from their web site. For a product this professional, not including any software is not professional at all. Second, this monitor is HEAVY and takes up a lot of desktop space. Third, the cabinet design is not as cool as the other manufacturers. My Eizo-Nanao CRT has the best cabinet design - elegant and simple.

So what does this monitor come with? The usual no frills accessories - power cord, USB cable, signal cable and manual. That's it, no software which I strongly recommend you download before installing the monitor so that your OS and video card can properly load the correct ICC profile and settings. The software will perform automatic adjustment of the screen size to maximize the viewing space. It has a built-in 4-port USB hub.

Despite all these, shoud you get it? Definitely! It outperforms any LCD and is up there in the top 1% of the CRT products.

Don't get this if you use your computer purely for business function. That's what an LCD is for. Furthermore, if you are sold at obtaining the best monitor and you can afford more, get a Sony DM-FW900 Flat Widescreen 24" monitor. Another alternative is to get an Eizo. It has all the functions you could ask for - a USB hub, on-screen controls, elegant design, and includes all the needed drivers and utilities - but at a higher price.

Either way, you won't make a mistake if you get this Nec. ... Read more
